A Seattle U.S. District Court heard arguments today in a lawsuit filed by Arizona, Illinois, Oregon, and Washington. The push for the end was led by Texas Congressman Brian Babbin. A person in the United States illegally are not subject to the jurisdiction thereof. Because that's what the 14th Amendment says. Babbin says the Constitution is being misinterpreted by those who want open borders. His bill seeks to restore the 14th Amendment to its original purpose, which was to grant rights to recently freed slaves. Millions of Americans are dealing with another day of frigid winter weather, and the lack of snow removal equipment in southern areas where snow is rare could lead to treacherous road conditions for days. Flight AWARE reports over 2,900 delays so far today, and cancellations of over 600 at last check. President Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense Pete Higgseth won't have the support of at least one Republican Senator. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski said she cannot, in good conscience, support his nomination. She added past behavior Higgseth has admitted to, including infidelity on multiple occasions, demonstrate a lack of judgment. The Senate confirmed John Ratcliffe as the next Director of the CIA. Ratcliffe previously served as the Director of National Intelligence during Trump's first term. Nominations are being announced for this year's Academy Awards, Jennifer Pulsoni reports. The best picture feel that this year's Oscars has a very musical feel. Nominees include Wicked, Amelia Perez, and a complete unknown Nora, the brutalist, Conclave in Dune Part II. Carlos Sofia Gascon is now the first openly transgender acting nominee in the history of the Oscars for best actress, for her performance at Netflix's Amelia Perez. The film also making history for its 13 nominations, breaking the record for a non-English film. Adrian Brody has the chance to win the second best actor Oscar of his career for his performance in the period drama The Brutalist. The 97th Academy Awards will take place March 2nd in Hollywood. I'm Lisa Taylor. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffery says Democrats won't vote for legislation tying California wildfire aid to a debt ceiling hike. Sources recently told Politico that Republicans are working on a legislative package aimed at extending federal spending through the March 14th deadline. The package would combine a debt limit increase with a measure providing assistance to wildfire victims. In a press conference Thursday, Jeffery's called the IDEA non-starter. He also says no GOP leaders have reached out to him to discuss a potential deal. A hearing over Tulsi Gabbard's nomination to serve as Director of National Intelligence is set for next week. The Senate Intelligence Committee will review Gabbard's nomination on January 30th. It comes after Democrats delayed the scheduling of an earlier hearing in order to obtain background checks, ethics disclosures, and paperwork on Gabbard. Some are concerned about her qualifications. If Gabbard is confirmed, she would have the agency in charge of overseeing all 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. Lawmakers are being warned about the cyber threats from China that are now described as complex, dynamic, and increasingly interconnected. Matt Matenson has more. They now possess a sophisticated and highly effective offensive cyber capacity targeting every region and every industry. Adam Myers with the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike testified this week on Capitol Hill. He warned that China is not her only threat, noting that North Korea is exploiting the work from home movement to steal company information. He also says Iran is leveraging AI technology to run scams. A new study shows those with ADHD have a shorter life expectancy. Research published by Cambridge University Press found that men with ADHD were likely to live seven less years than those without ADHD. For women, it was likely to shorten their lifespan by eight years. The study's authors wrote that the evidence is extremely concerning and highlights unmet support needs that require urgent attention. Ford is recalling more than 270,000 vehicles due to battery failure concerns. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the 12-volt battery may experience degradation and suddenly fail.
