He addressed the World Economic Forum virtually as it took place in Switzerland today. It marked Trump's first major speech to global economic leaders. More winter weather is in the forecast for millions of Americans today. Those from the Midwest, East Coast and down to the Gulf Coast are dealing with freezing temperatures. The thousands remain without power and the lack of snow removal equipment in southern areas where the snow is rare could lead to treacherous road conditions for days. The French Quarter is covered in ice where George Salise provides an update. Officials are asking people to stay off the roadways because they're still having a hard time clearing some of the snow and slush out here. The good news, though, travel is starting to improve at the airports in Jacksonville. That airport opened, Alabama looking to open two more airports. And here in New Orleans, that airport is set to open this afternoon. Wide-aware reports cancelations in nearly 600 so far today and over 1900 delays at last check. Crews are making progress against the Hughes Fire north of Los Angeles. The wildfire started yesterday near the town of Castaic and spread to over 10,000 acres, putting more than 30,000 people under evacuation orders. Liz Croits is in Castaic. Homes, a detention center and schools in the town of Castaic evacuated. Students in the middle of the school day forced to flee to safety. Officers preparing to evacuate, but staying as long as they can to protect their homes and property. As nearby, Los Angeles is still reeling from the massive wildfires earlier this month. They killed 27 people and left entire neighborhoods devastated. By Wednesday night, the fire was 14 percent contained and Interstate 5 through Castaic had reopened. A vote that would move forward the nomination of Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary's plan for later today. However, it's unknown if the Senate will vote to confirm him today or not. It comes as multiple confirmation votes are taking place on Capitol Hill today for President Trump's cabinet picks. A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is expected to fetch as much as $4 million at auction. It's only one of 10 known to be in existence, most of which are in collections. I'm Lisa Taylor. Mexico is constructing 10 shelters at the border to prepare for potential mass deportations. John Fink reports. These shelters will provide temporary housing and support for deported individuals. Multiple reports say President Trump is getting ready to send 10,000 troops to the U.S. southern border. The government memo reportedly says the troops will help Border Patrol agents to shut off access to asylum in the U.S. and will use Department of Defense bases to hold migrants awaiting deportation. I'm John Fink. NASA is hosting a day of remembrance at the Kennedy Space Center, honoring astronauts who died during space exploration. More from Karen Curtis. Kennedy Space Center Acting Director Calvin Manning gave a heartfelt tribute to those who were lost. We owe a debt of gratitude to the crews of Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia, and to all the others who have lost their lives in the advancement of science and exploration. January 28th will mark the 39th anniversary of the Challenger disaster. Apollo 1 was scheduled to launch in February of 1967. A fire killed the crew during a pre-launch test on January 27th. College enrollment numbers are up and higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a national student clearing house research center report, total enrollment from last fall was up four and a half percent from the year before.
