Liz Kroitz reports from Kestay. This morning, the all too familiar glow of flames quickly spreading over huge swaths of land just north of burn scarred Los Angeles. And a new brush fire popping up overnight in the city near the famed Getty Center sparking to protect the entire state of Los Angeles. And that's what we're talking about in the U. S fire in the evacuation warnings as strong winds span the flames of the Hughes fire, which consume more than 10,000 acres in just a matter of hours. And officials say has been very difficult to contain. The weather is what's predominantly driving this fire and it's spread right now by Wednesday night. The fire was 14% contained. A key procedural vote to move forward the nomination of Pete Hegseth for defense secretary will take place this afternoon. However, it's unknown if the Senate will be able to make sure that it's not going to happen in the U. S fire. And it's not going to happen today for President Trump's cabinet picks. He ordered the Attorney General and future cases to take steps to make sure that states like Texas have enough lethal injection drugs to carry out executions. Historically, the drug companies have not provided the states with the so-called cocktail need to execute a person. They think it's inhumane. As Josh Blackman at the South Texas College of Law, he says another part of the executive order is being overlooked. Trump, he says, ordered the Justice Department to challenge Supreme Court precedents on the death penalty. That could include the Eighth Amendment span on cruel and unusual punishments. Republicans went to end what's commonly called birthright citizenship. The push is led by Texas Congressman Brian Babbin. If passed, the children of illegal immigrants would no longer be granted citizenship. CNN is laying off about 210 employees. CEO Mark Thompson made the announcement in a memo to staff. The company plans to invest $70 million in new digital plans, saying it doesn't expect total headcount to fall much. This comes to CNN restructures its TV lineup and expands its digital subscription products. American Madison Keys is headed to the final of the Australian Open.
