Raiders Review With Blake & The Pork Episode 147 - I Endorse This Podcast
Hey guys, this is Ricky Stewart. Let me make it very clear. I do not endorse the Raiders review with Blake and the Pork podcast. Go to the Mighty Raiders. How hello and welcome to the Raiders review with Blake and the Pork and Matt I'm the Pork. I'm Blake. And unfortunately Matt's not with us this week. No, I can't say too much. It stood down on full pay in the investigation. By order of the board. Yeah. It was an art decision. Wasn't it else? No. Someone they came in over the top of the board and they insisted that Matt have a week off and we haven't been able to contact him actually. He's gone silent but there were reports that he was heading to an island in the Pacific to reclaim some possessions because that island. I was in the Pacific like it as a result of climate change. They say that it's changed my life. They're saying they're sinking but really it's the I was not sinking. It's the water that's rising isn't it? It's the water that's rising. Maybe the water's rising. Yeah. Unfortunately for myself I've been hit with a five which is a spent suspended. Been suspended. Pending the later. Yeah. Look what we're talking about is the feedback we got for the last week's episode and we've never had so much feedback on an episode and never. It's probably the most hated episode up there with the episode where you were whispering in the office. Remember that? That was people who really didn't like. They didn't like that one but I think they actually- that was an effort reason. That's a technical reason. I think they hated last week's episode more. Also on my own behalf people said that accused us of being out of touch with the fans and being club apologists. From my own point of view I think I've always been a representative of the fans view on this show and look I've never been afraid to criticize the club and the coach when I've felt it justified. Obviously you and Matt have the perspective. I am absolutely guilty as charged. I am absolutely a club apologist. I will stand by rekeying the club until my dying breath and I think I make that very clear and upfront. Yeah. Look you guys have always been very upfront about that and you guys have those relationships which I don't have and look to be honestly I've never tried to foster those relationships even if they, you know, sure I've been invited to the moment in your medal every year for the last four years but I've had to decline because I want to compromise my integrity. No you don't. Whereas I'm quite prepared as I've made very clear to compromise my integrity I am for sale. I mean no one's buying but I am for sale and that's the important thing. I should point out that this is the podcast for the names that the most popular podcast on the internet coming to you from the Filthier store and very somewhere in the Bowes Civic location we will never reveal especially after the hatred we got last week. Yeah and one of the things I would say also about the podcast is you know this is in an echo chamber we don't all share the same views and one of the things I think that you know has been one of the strengths of the podcast has been the fact that I haven't been afraid to call you out on you know you're blind or too too ricky and I haven't been afraid to sort of you know have a go and poke fun at Matt sometimes for his champion of some of the less popular players with the broader fan base like Danny Levi like Emory Gole likes Emory Bellamy. Yeah no it's true and look I think that's admirable quality in Matt that he actually does those things. I think all of us all of us you have to be looking at those players coming up and thinking about if he just squeezes that little bit extra it's what's going to push us over the top. I mean once upon a time I held that love for Reece Robinson I really thought he was going to be. Oh Reece Robinson don't put Reece Robinson in the same category as Matt's love. You know what I mean we've got these players do you think if clean buttress just you know just ticks over that thing it's going to make all the difference. If only Reece Robinson could tackle. Yeah I think Terry Campese had knees that would break if I think Josh Hodge had wheels up your bike you know it's it's if only we can't we can't do all too much so we should. I think we've covered it off on on the criticism of last week. So we should go into the news and my god there's so much news. It has been one of the busiest weeks for camaraderies that I can ever think of so we can talk about this for a fair while. First bit of news radar 398. Oh my goodness. Has burst on seeing it. Someone always when we said oh in the year you know what other raiders would potentially day be of this year and who would they be. None of us had Jordan Martin in mind. None of us had Giordo in mind but the fly well he's coming back for a serious injury. He's only been back for a couple of weeks from an ACL. He wasn't even on the agenda they're the lad from the veruma you know the second second finest mullet in the and I've seen them both up front next to each other and I can tell you now his brother Noah I believe his mullet is worse than Jordan's. Is it worse than it is better. Well it depends if you're a mullet lover I think Noah's mullet is better. I think Noah's is better. I think Noah's is worse. Jordan I know if you saw there's a video of Jordan being presented his jersey yesterday in front of the playing group and by Kenny Rogers and he's had a bit of a trim to the mullet. It's a tidy it's a trim it's a bit like when Jon Bon Jovi cut his hair. It's not a full cut it's sort of like I think Keith Urban it's sort of like a mini mullet now. I still think it's a beautiful scallop you know it's a mullet australis really short up the front and like you know light draping curtains down the back not the sort of curtains that are block out but the sort you put over a frosted window in a bathroom you know with a bit of lace on the back of his back sort of light drapery down there. Nice nice. I had a report though he is a lovely bloke I mean you know I like everybody but he really is a warm friendly and honest dude like he's he's straight up front good country by what coastal but good country boy and every time I've had a chat to him he's the sort of like you're like you're gonna you're gonna invite him to your barbecue your fishing trip and he's gonna be funny you know he is. Nice so he's 24 he's making a save you he's sort of played upright as an edge back row and more in mineral recent times and you saw those cups since he's coming back through the middle and he's he's being picked to be a middle forward not to be confused with another Jordan Martin that was at the club previously who was in fact Paul Martin's son who was on that show that you remember they did they did that one season of the rookie order was called with Brad. No one from any of those shows ever he's like a big middle that wasn't our loop statement on that. No you think you're the bachelor. But anyway so good luck to Paul Martin he's he's been picked and he'll play small I mean it's like I said no I'm really saw this one coming re-expecting. Paul Martin hasn't been picked. I just want Jordan Martin. Oh Jordan Martin yeah no one saw him coming and he'll probably play you know the the 10 to 15 minute betroll but good on him and I hope he does well. Yeah totally absolutely. Yeah not having not death riding him I want to see the flying mullet from in a room I absolutely kill it yeah you know. Well his brother you know when Ben Parker was on the show a couple weeks ago his brother is the one I think the club's really high and he played in the under 19's origin game a couple weeks ago. Well I thought did really well I mean not as well as Chevy who absolutely tore it up I'm assuming that's in the news. We'll get to that. So the next bit of news is Nick Cottrick looks like he's signed a deal to go to Les Catalans in the South of France three year deal. I believe us we're Elliot Whitehead is heading back to. Yeah we think Elliot should go there as well and I mean if Nick's gonna go play in the Super League I think the South of France. I don't know how good will we be at picking up the language. But in terms of lifestyle I think he's more suited to the South of France than than Eastern North and you know I wish him all the best. He's still only 25 so you have three years time he can still potentially return to the NRL but um. No doubt it's a five eight. Well. Well then I think about all the crowd killed a little over there. Oh look are you saying it's wrong? Parasuted into state of origin in Santa killed it came back as five eight did pretty damn well. I mean don't don't put the in in a muck. How I'd hear of that? No I love it a muck. Yeah so Nick Cottrick look the club had a reduced offer on the table for him which was you know less than that the 600k he was previously on and I think he balked at he and his management balked at signing a reduced offer and then he's he's gone he's got this offer and looks like he's heading the Super League so best of luck to him. Someone else who may also be leaving is his best mate Emre Gala. Now working around um around Civic I've got to say I've never seen Emre without Nick or Nick without Emre those two are very tight and um without his friend Nick in getting in Canberra with him it seems Emre is home sick and wants to return to Sydney and although he is contracted I imagine the club will be granting him a release. Yeah yeah I'd imagine he would be too. I imagine he would be too. For him to be happy because I'm quite lucky Emre is nice and yeah well he's obviously good bloke um but you know he's I'm not gonna pretend I haven't been a critic of him at times. Type definitely been a critic of the club's absolutely. But for him to ask for upside in Emre you know. Yeah well for him to ask for a release it's safe to say he's got something lined up at like a bulldogs or yeah yeah he was at South's actually um previously and you look you think about both those clubs they both need a boat to be skinny in the middle so um I think he'll he'll pick up a spot somewhere. I mean he's never you know he's not a superstar and um you know you got to keep that in perspective I think when people are sort of highly criggly and for you know for every Josh Popper Lee you need your um dynamics Louie you know for every Glamour just there's your Brent Todd you know you need your sort of not every middle is going to be a superstar that you can have money. But again what middles usually really come into their best form from 27 on and he's 26 so I mean part of the reason let him go is a bit of a bummer you know like he's really put the hard yards in he's played in a grand final with this obviously because you've got to be picked in it. I think that coming into it will be really disappointing to see him go to Canada for your south and all of a sudden you know erupt us this you know well-rounded prop it really makes a difference. Well you know Wayne Bennett's done some pretty good things with um aging props you know in the past Mark Nichols of course uh very classic example um but with um MREA and the aging I don't know if that's the conventional wisdom is is props don't come good until they're 27 28 but I think we've seen in recent times with the speed of the game yeah it doesn't apply as much as it used to but anyway we wish um MREA all the best. Well and it would be here for the rest of the season so it's not like you're going there. Well G30 you know it's a couple of days good he could he could leave the tournament. It's true but I mean I doubt it you really think we're going to let anyone go with the way things are going at the moment I think you want to keep all my doubt it um so a bunch of so we we sort of anticipated that some signing news would be staggered but last week uh after recording the show there was a whole bunch of of signings confirmed there was the three uh used as well as cup under nineteen's players from um last year and that Kirtle Sanders. Kirtle Sanders is the official. It's announced that Kirtle is coming and drawing the doctor. Kirtle and the doctor. That sounds like a good segment doesn't it? It does and um also uh tamale from the dragons who I've watched playing. From the dragons yeah. Yes, Civilio tamale I've watched him um played New South Wales Cup a couple of times. Now what I understand is he's wing a centre and can do full back like he's a game. Yeah so he's generally described um as a um centre come winger but I this game I watched a couple of weeks ago him playing New South Wales Cup for the dragons he was playing full back and he was outstanding yeah he's got all the sort of attributes of your modern outside back in that he's got strength speed you know power everything so yeah he's got a really light too and of course we've got the the young lad who's actually playing New South Wales Cup for the nights at the moment coming down as well I believe he has quite a fine mullet too Martin yeah yeah yeah yeah but he's another Martin another Martin with the mullet what you kind of like we've appeared we've lined up Josh's maybe now we're lining up Martin's with mullets I mean that makes a lot of sense don't think about it so many mornings with miles miles Martin Miles Martin but um he's a 13 I believe yeah yeah so we've got spine coming in there so and and if your word on on patty's a good thing coming through that means we've got the spine of the future shaping up right now. Well they're building they're building in the right direction you know I think we shouldn't be too disappointed about this season I mean I think that um at the start of the year I didn't think we were going at the spoon I thought we were a chance to make the eight under the proviso that Jamar Fogarty um stayed fit and did you know him in the crowd with um with Jack yeah Jack Jack um drinking some jetsky juicy great northern yeah yeah nice uh but no it's good to see Jack it was good to see Jack there it's good to see they're all still mates obviously which of course you know they're always going to be I don't think Jack really has a bad bone in his body um but you know once Jamar went down I was we were always going to struggle because looking at the depth chart that started the year I thought you know who's going to play seven if he goes down and obviously we've had to put um Kyle Wicks who's you know one of six playing seven and you know he's doing he's doing an admirable job and he's got great speed but he's not you know the controlling smart player that um Jamar Fogarty is and he looked at our early form was he built yeah and our early form was built on you know if you think of the start of the season Jamar had the best kicking game in the comp you know he was doing it all he was he was he was the best of all the other kickers combined and yeah we played a simple game plan but you know we had a good kicking game he looked at that game uh against the tigers on the weekend and and field position and oh it's just everything we got absolutely owned you know and and and a good Jamar kick could turn that around you know and uh and he was a bit of momentum and we just we just haven't had that in recent time so it's not all doom and gloom I don't think you know I think that um while obviously you know the last couple of weeks have been very disappointing we've got to keep things in perspective and you know and and the good news is you know Jamar will be back hopefully fairly soon um next bit of news another sign in that's been made official is Matty Nicholson from Warrington in the Super League mmm presumably he's coming in to play right edge back row second row yeah yeah straight might imagine a straight swap for Elliot Whitehead effectively we still got asking you now playing around as well but I think he's coming to play the position he's just 20 um he's just being named in the England have just picked a squad to take on France in like a mid-season test he's been named in that um he looks a great prospect yeah he really does yeah from having now I've seen a few videos highlights of him um he looks like a real goer not crazy like John Bateman but the same sort of uh maniacal work rate yeah as skillful and got pace he looks like everything that you want you know in an attack attacking back row so yeah exciting to have him signed on um as I mentioned on the show a few weeks ago when the the news was sort of first announced he's actually from the same town as Morgan Smithy's Halifax so there's definitely a link there so that's you know I'm sure having Morgan here already will help him um transition as well so yeah really excited about that signing looking forward to it um apparently we did have to pay I would have to payovers for that no no we had to pay a transfer fee but you know transfer fees really they don't count towards your cap because can you bottom line well I'm sure Don does sure I'm sure he does but look the great thing about getting people from the north of England in general Canberra is an improvement on their weather yeah in general but that's always the theory always should sign players from England because they used to the cold weather but you know some of them when they come from England they you know they're looking for the full Australian experience yeah and when they get to Canberra you know it's not providing it for them it's not it doesn't come through there and then all of a sudden they find themselves playing for you know but you need someone like Jay but John Bateman who actually says he hates the beach you know and yeah well he would wouldn't he he's the whitest man I think I've ever seen in my life outside of the coast bro oh it's it look one of them yes absolutely there's a cadaverous quality to both of their skins you know it looks like is that still alive unless you sort of moving what other news we got uh Stefano who took him on who's been linked to the Raiders uh this is one of the ones I'm just this this reading giving us hope or is this naturally exactly this one feels like it's very much um player manager driven and um look the Tigers have offered him something like a five-year deal on um 800,000 a year and you know based on what we saw from him on the weekend he's probably it's probably worth that sort of money and um we're certainly interested in him oh look you know sorry we were interested in Colin Matangi when we were being given the hope with him last year I was certainly interested in him too but I'm interested in him too but took him on I think he's a really good player I thought at that be while the West Tigers weren't feeding the hell out of us and when they were I was thinking I wish he was slightly worse than he currently is yeah uh I I think this is one of those player manager you know uh we'll throw some other clubs into the mix um to try and try and up up the money from I mean it's probably not going to get much more than than Tigers are offering the moment there's other talk that you know because he's got this um clause where if the Tigers don't make the finals this year he's he can he's got to get our clause yeah don't ever like you don't want to hear that your clubs got any more get our clause of tea you know it's like yeah the suck but there's nothing but trouble but anyway he's got one but so the other clubs are supposed to be interested in me obviously um Penrith are looking for someone to replace James Fisher Harris oh why wouldn't he be interested in Penrith it's not like that good system or having sex yeah sorry balanced coach or a settle it's not like you could go there and win a comp in the next you know one two three it's not like he slips straight into the the gap left out by you know Fisher Harris or anything like that and the other one is the rooster adoption and the other one is the rooster is here looking for a replacement for J.W.8 so although it is nice to be linked to him and it does give us some hope that the raiders potentially want to bring him into replace Papa um I don't think it's too likely to happen that's that's my that's my general vibe on that one another rumor that's surfaced this week um that you know seems to come from nowhere and and we don't think there's there's not too much basis to it there's no sort of quotes or anything like that but um there's a couple reports coming out saying that um Corey Hawsborough is unhappy and is looking to get out of the club um yeah there's no substance to this in fact melody for the camera times contacted his manager uh who is denied it uh but yes it's not what you want to hear no it's not what you want to hear and then my my word is that there's nothing behind that but um gee I wouldn't want to lose big red um no and these and these are so I can go through the floor yeah and these are these things usually they don't just come from you know nowhere it's usually some sort of manager or someone's been talking to someone to to leak this sort of thing I can understand that you know big reds had an incredibly frustrating season um he's barely he's barely been on the field um you know he missed the first three or four weeks or whatever it was with suspension following that um shoulder charge that wasn't really a shoulder charge uh charged from the end of last season then he came back he did his groin he's been out for ages um he played one game in yourself whilst cup couple weeks ago looked really good and was crook on the weekend um didn't play uh apparently the flu um he hasn't been named in yourself whilst cup this weekend but there's still a big chance that he will play because unlike first grade in yourself whilst cup squads are a bit like um first grade squads under the old days where you could basically change your line up completely yeah an hour before kickoff yeah back in the days when you actually did have a pork smoky yeah oh I smokey oh well that may happen to happen all the time you had that who was the bloke and it was south Sydney player who paid all three guys in a day no idea no there was a player there was a player who started in the 23s went to Regis and Flynn played first grade played all three in one day and that's a smoky right there the fact I can't remember his name probably needs he wasn't quite a star I remember going to game once and the raiders were taking on um uh the cowboys and make gaffer had been named at six uh and I wasn't too optimistic about our chances and then just as you know the team were running through the tunnel Jason Smith suddenly appeared and he'd made and he was making an early return from injury to end up I think kicking and winning field gold to win that game so it used to be exciting actually I think you know go to the ground and you hear there'd be like change or that's just interesting walking into the ground on one occasion going past him while he was chugging on a winnie raid and it was just like you know seriously you're going into playing the game smoking I had stories that Chicky used to smoke in the dressing room yeah he used to stub him out in the tunnel but he was just like he'd still be playing now for you to smoke maybe anyway that's like he's so big red though um look he just resigned before you deal so I think he's contracted as long as anyone till the end of 2027 and he signed last year on the back of you know his best season ever where he made his Queensland debut so presumably on you know it's a very good contract so I don't know why would he would he want out now I mean previously um he was unhappy when he got loaned out to um in the covid trying to get loaned out to the dogs the dogs and when the when the dolphins were first coming into the comp his manager actually approached the dolphins you know and they weren't interested because he's a dolphins junior three's from I don't know whether the dolphins were just like you just fry up there would be yeah I don't know whether the dolphins have have come back in or or what it is but hopefully there's not too much to it and you know he's contracted so for in order for him to go we'd have to actually consent to releasing him so yeah yeah it could be our own Ben Hunt situation well he seems to have settled now yep seems to have settled now guys are seems to have settled now what we got any more news uh the other 19s origin game like we said oh yeah Chevy Stuart had a phenomenal performance man in the match it was great see because last year um he played in the game and he had a pretty mixed performance and to be honest with you we know what he can do we know what a bright prospect is but we haven't really seen him dominate a game like that until then and you know he's been he came into first grade this year and and looked you know uh a boy a mixed man well he's gone back to this game and he looked at man monks boys he did very very well and it kind of reminded me of um you know young Josh Dugan or something like that just just through the middle um in terms of playing style Tim why why do you even talk him up as anything other than the malignant stain on the history of the Canva Raiders in terms of playing style um so he spoke well i hope Chevy can not get injured quite as frequently and actually tough it out in the tackle and get up back into defensive way anyway i also hope that he's half decent human anyway i'm sure that he is he's done a bit of there's been a bit of press around him um since that game and he's spoken very highly of Ricky um and that you know Ricky's like a second dad to um him and him and Ethan Strange and and all the boys at the club you know which is really great to hear and i think it's one of the reasons why uh these parents of these young stars are uh happy to send their boys to the Raiders to be looked after by Ricky as they know you know Canva's family club and and how well we look after these guys and there's a there's a there's a plan and there's a pathway for the first grade and um he said he's happy to bite its time to um get a call up back to first grade. Ricky said that you know he wants him to work a bit more in his attacking shape which um was the one thing i did notice when he did play on the year uh he wasn't really offering he was returning the ball well and you know he's did catch it but he wasn't really timing it was well it's not it's not contributing to an overall attack it's playing his own game which is why which is why i'm actually making in terms of forget about all the off field personality stuff the um comparison to Josh Dune because Josh Dune was pretty much uh run himself support up through the middle he'd net Josh Dune would never master the art of all playing a full-back and hopefully you can see him on engine for long enough really anyway hopefully we can see Chevy and just on Chevy there's a great photo that came to me last night of both him and dr. Strange where the young up and coming uh seem to be seat the start of the Canva Raiders in Braden County it's just been named for uh the under 15s rugby league ACT rugby league side and they were there handing out uh at the Raiders club for jerseys and there's a lovely photo with Braden there and and those two boys look very nice in his brain you can't look at the connection there uh he is the son of Steve Kent the uh the ex cavalry pitcher so um but he's he's absolutely phenomenal you know um there's quite a few good juniors coming through in that side but uh Braden is going to be a special so uh keep your eyes out for that young lad um it was nice to see Chevy and uh and dr. Strange actually at that event making sure those juniors knew you couldn't see their part of life yeah I think there were a bunch of players went out to different different things that's why it's part of the engagement they try and do uh and last bit of news we have another milestone game this weekend oh yes we do we do have a milestone game Tom Starlings 100th game um so are we wearing the the the we're wearing white jerseys yeah white jerseys we're alike where are I who do's were meant to be broken yeah and I are you know West Tigers hadn't beaten us in six years you know um no one can then one camel town in four years I don't you know who does who do's we're meant to be broken so hopefully uh but if we don't break the who do this way what I'm going to send a message to the club uh please don't announce any more milestone games um it's a moratorium on milestones for the rest of the season because or when they're having a milestone game alone them out to an opposition club to play it see that way they can have the shock all right the milestone game could be on that club rather on our club make sense you know you know it makes sense and uh the white jersey uh I used to love them back in the 90s I liked I liked the white jersey I really did but the back didn't mean you know my first ever my first ever jersey was in 1984 which is what jersey um and you know we yeah everyone I had run get a number three on the back uh I got a the number um I'm on a sports tour somewhere in Queen me and I can't remember uh but we only used to wear it once a year which was to play south because at the end of the day they only used to wear it was the class jersey yeah it wasn't we wore it at the beginning of season games in the boiling hot sun right so we were you're so it was a lighter occasion we do that up in Queen's name we wear the white jersey because we didn't want to bake um but yeah yes yes uh yeah anyway um look we should probably you know should we Danny Stewart hasn't been on for a while but uh I think he's got some opinions that he wants to share with us he this is Danny Stewart the uh uh brother of a uh king varieties coach Ricky Stewart will it's been a wall since all but you know it's good to be back and uh boy absolutely uh zero domain here I am found out in regards to the uh now I lost against the uh mighty targets uh last Sunday uh uh that can be summed up in uh three words yeah that wasn't us yeah there's no way that was else in that game if we uh funny when you run an eye over the uh last seven or eight weeks of uh footy we've had uh it hasn't been all doom and gloom we've had some uh uh really good wins in there uh we had the uh come back against uh milia broogie us uh the win over the uh doggies at uh magic grand uh that was definitely us and uh that was certainly us against the uh fins when we had that uh great gallant point win now we've had some shortcuts as well uh the sharks tear us up 40 needle at home not us uh the roost has been 40 us at home uh fuck me if that was us and uh that certainly wasn't us uh against the gale boys uh last week as well when they uh it's too much to us to just get us out there all just want to see us that's all i want to see it on the rugby league field us you know we all know that their opponents know it uh we know it if uh we get us out there uh we're a formidable rugby league team uh and that uh 30 year old will depend on how often we see us in the rest of the uh regular season uh now we got uh in regards to the uh big one against the storm on uh uh said the uh oldest want to see us if we get us we'll give him an absolute dropping uh now after that uh storm game we've got uh some uh really winnable games at home uh i think we've got uh the warriors uh the uh the bunnies and uh i think uh the knots in that cluster as well so three consecutive home games after the storm and uh we've been bloody good at home this year uh we've got a formidable home record four and three uh it's really uh becoming a fortress so if we can uh so if we can just get us against the storm sneak over two points there we're uh sitting pretty uh fast water month or so and uh i think we'll be sitting in the uh top four we've a uh minor 62 differential so it's a uh it's not all doom and gloom uh they're still uh a lot uh a lot to go in this uh season yet uh let's just see us uh so looking forward to the storm game uh just want to see us here at the year and uh go you uh green machine i think there's a little bit of all of us that's danny steward this week i think there's a little bit of all of us that's danny steward for some people a lot of us that's danny steward i actually tried to get him in um for the whole episode to replace matt here right uh yeah he was two but tom i got hold of him he was you know yeah he was three years after mid it was after mid day he was he was after mid way he's got to get him in the morning you know he's had the hair of the dog you know he's just starting to come good but but after lunchtime he's going again he's a lovable rogue but uh you know you know you don't want his opinions after 12 p.m. we don't need without a controversial episode Tim no we don't oh speaking of controversial episodes and and you know um my mother actually as well as all the other people that complained my mother actually rang me up to complain about matt swearing uh in last week's episode didn't he normally speak so well yeah she was yeah she was very upset with him last week all the swear look i've got to apologize that mrs boudak um matt it was is what grinds my gears block okay our stats for that match against the west tigers and i use the word match advisedly within third of commerce all our stats were better than the west tigers we we beat them in virtually every stat right and yet the scoreboard and watching the game told a completely different story there was no even this in that match whatsoever and unfortunately what that means is it speaks that we had really poor scramble because they missed more tackles than us but they didn't concede as many tries by a long shot which means they scrambled better which means they were up for the game and secondly we had just as many tackle breaks and line breaks which meant our execution and our game style overall was just awful so not only did we not execute well but we also didn't scramble well and those are the two things they're the one for centers you know they get you cross the line in matches and when you're a side like us you know where you know you're either you're winning by one to 12 when you win if you don't have those things you're not going to get the W and it grinds my gears because the number one thing you'd hope is that the people show up the players our players our boys show up and give a red hot dig and those stats give one well that's Rick you said it was us out there he said it was us he he read them the right act you said nut that's ridiculous i'm not having that we're my big fear my big fear going in that game and i sort of was pretty clear last week that i was very concerned again again was it coming up against a resurgent west tigers who you know the crowded Campbell town gets behind them and look we were out enthused from the first minute of the game you know oh yeah and you can see within 15 minutes i thought if this doesn't if this doesn't game is over game is over up to 15 minutes oh god yeah 20 minutes it was god look and our mock tip last week that's the only good news i basically said go the west tigers turning plus in a mock and all we got really wrong there was we chose the wrong player to get two tries we chose safer to get two tries he ended up getting binned i believe was the player who got binned but the players that got two was Lachlan Galvin you know so it was out there so the pork's mock was there but yeah look at grinds my gears when you have to look back and i don't want to pile onto the players at all in any way shape or form but if i sit there and pat them on the back and say it was the rare for anything like that they're not going to walk through the room of mirrors and have a good hard look at themselves and then come out and actually play like we know they can it grinds my gears they're in a position where we have to reflect on them and actually question their heart and their integrity because that shouldn't be for questioning we know they're much better than that but they just weren't on the weekend and it grinds my gears it made me sad i was sad blarker oh it was it was very disappointing but i mean i had previously said that the gaming is the cowboys was the lowest point of the season that was a lot lower than that when the cowboys match i think had a few things going out our way we might have jagged a win that we didn't deserve or we might have jagged a win in that one at the end where someone someone was calling come back at one stage when we scored the third try i thought oh goodness gracious me it's not going to be a comeback we look i'll ultimately we're lucky that input 15 is you know how many tries i know we bomb some tries but how many tries did they have there's so many tries that they could have easily scored and you know it's scored you know it would have been um not quite maybe we would have been closer to the worries you know 66 um the only thing you know that that sort of took the heater off us a little bit is that titans you know beating the worries by that scorch is even more oh yeah but i don't i don't think it does take the heat off so what things to note in that game was Corace our we knew we knew we were in trouble and he really does lead that site like a great sign at that club he leads them around gives them direction but on top of all his good dummy heart play his good defense and his good leadership aside he got eight from eight and a number of those were not close they he had to give some good kicks you know any chance we might have had coming back in that match is gone in the 54th minute when he um when he converts that um that kick you know it's like well what chance have we got if he keeps pointing them from a laser? He's a phenomenal player though because he doesn't just like he creates but he also does heaps of effort plays as well you know he gets through scores of those tries he does so much yeah i could he should be playing for his whilst match is an ass clown who should Ricky has Ricky actually came out during the weekend backed up um my view that match is an ass clown he didn't directly say that he's an ass clown but he said my judge was corporate that way he did he did i thought that when they said the way he was treated in the last two years last year this year totally and i i agree with him and then i think Ricky was was right but look Adam do you agree with Ricky that's unheard of i know i know usually it's like we're polar opposites but you know this one stand out players from that match Adam Dewey gets parachuted back into the match he been talking big about i love this club and i'm going to show these junior players how to have some backbone well he pushed his money where his mouth was do you not uh do you always look you know you had you had to be happy for him after you know having three hours and he's resigned actually um they resigned in front of the year because initially they basically offered him i think a minimum contract deal but i assume he's got a bit more than that and and the fact that he showed that much speed uh scored at try because cara weeks you know who we know um is no slam obviously maybe with cara weeks i think he's more of got that explosive um acceleration whereas you know you saw with um with when someone makes a break savage you know savage has been after you probably would have chased him down but cara weeks i i thought was gonna get him but then you know he dived and yeah yeah no no it was very good look he made he made 212 meters lachlan galvan also was great like we know that kids can have your star you can see that coming a mile off i really do hope if we don't actually capture him which we don't need that he doesn't get taken away from the west side he's pretty much said he's pretty much said during the week that he's he's staying now so well that that's good for them and then and you know you think i'm the back of those recent performances uh and you know they had a bunch of other young players you know playing that game he did well um staphana would want to stay yeah yeah and also another faneu served it up to us as well so the young faneu kid went in of course the the lublauer lee who gets parachuted in as the number 19 in the last men of course course this day they tried and it was good here's the thing about here's the thing about coaches and you know benji marshall a month ago or however long it was benji went overseas on a holiday in the bi-week and he deserved to get sacked you know yet they have they've won every game since he had his uh since he had his whole day so a month ago he couldn't coach now he's a genius um this time last year uh and your webster was the coach of the year and everyone thought he was the best thing and now they're getting pumped 66 to 6 and you know it wasn't that long ago that um all these independent judges were saying ricochet was the coach of the year for getting in the squad you know so i don't think it's a case that people you know can and can't coach on the basis of you know the last three weeks four weeks um you know the the a month is a long time of football and and i still think and your webster's obviously a good coach and you know yeah i think he's a great coach it's just something something's not clicking inside something needs to change there's this there's this thing where something needs to change in order for everything to change they need you need a catalyst an incident to happen that says onwards numbers from here that like like we've had enough that's it i'm not taking it and and something actually changes we we've you've seen it in the past where someone says when karney got sacked for example this one i'll go back to from that point camp easy goes to five eight and we think what's gonna be and they just went for it and everything changed on the back of that we all of a sudden the whole team improved on the back of that moment for one reason or another yeah but you've you see moments that where there's a catalyst you know whether it's for the west tigers now or not i don't know because i'm not sure their depth especially in the forward pack is is good enough having said that they own theirs um but you've got to say if you want to go out and sack yeah sacking a coach is a very very stupid thing to do not it should be your last course of action not your first yeah well you think about the turning point um for the warriors this year uh it's actually went out of front of a black god stood down that was when the wheels fell off when he didn't turn up for the team song or whatever and then got stood down next week i think that's when the wheels fell off so well and just at that point James Fisher Harrison was announced at the same moment so you know there's a whole lot of things where you've got to really manage your people well too and i think look and i know i'm very positive that Ricky but i think the way he manages his people going forward has been really really good um so you're not going to have a thing where Adam might feel slighted by something or you start getting poked you know the last time we saw an example of that was when tarpanae and steward which seems to have been fixed thank god because if we had a good player last weekend and we had some players who weren't diabolical right there there were some players i didn't think were awful i didn't think um savage is awful he just didn't get any chances right he did what he could do within the selection that he could i actually thought nikko was actually okay given that he showed some glimpses um yeah he showed some some all right you know in times or glimpses okay i will catch moments in attack but then he missed like ten tackles which ten tackles yeah a couple of those were fall off they were unfair but ten is still a big number look it's time to talk about who we think was the man that matched from mine i thought there was an utter standout for the one person who never was you know never had his colors lowered and just kept going for the full 50 minutes is on the field and that was joe tarpanae you know 21 runs 15 hit ups 170 is seven meters uh four tackle breaks two line break assist three off lows uh 28 tackles with only one miss uh and i can give him as comparable stats yeah stats is stats look pretty good and stats generally look pretty good i'll give him the ten dollar land speed um voucher and i'll add it to his pawn i'll say that i think he's now assured of getting his um is it three or four in a row meaning a medal the arse third in a row but yeah is it his fourth i think it's his third if he gets i i cannot look lock it in i i think it's very unlikely it's going to be anybody else yes lock it in it's cool look rappa could get it basically on the factor that when um when he's good he's great when he's good he's great so when he's not getting the three he'll get the zero but wrap wrap i had a shocker um you know and it's time to talk about the arse clown off the week because for me this week with the greatest of love with the greatest of love because i love the man i mean i might have said a few seasons ago that he should have gone back through edgies and maybe his time has gone but you know i've eaten my humble power coming back and i've always said he has the touch of the aines cower that he can win you the match and lose you the match and it can be the same match well this season we have seen and we sung songs about him about him winning matches when he has been the difference between us winning and losing and that's absolutely the case it's offensive he wants the match i think it's fair to say that he had the biggest barrier i've ever seen him have except maybe that time we were playing was that the warriors we played up at red cliff yeah yeah that it's it's the equivalent of the barrier that it's up it was possibly his worst ever match um now and when i say he's gonna be my last plan of the week it's i'm taking a board the the criticism that i'm not critical of the players because i love the mind would i be but in this case um and i think he knows that he had a very he had a very shocker on that week and while it's not an arse clown in the true sense because i'm not calling minity to i want to go away because i love him and i know he'll come good and he'll win us more matches he'll win us more than he loses gdell's bad match yeah look it's it's roper when he messes up it's not through lack of effort or lack of interest um it's sometimes when things are going badly and obviously we've currently got you know a bit of a um an experience back him in the spine um he tries to do it all himself you know and he tries to do crazy things and and look he was playing first receiver a lot of times at that game and um i would like to see some some changes made structural changes made and when we get to the team list i'll give sort of a team that i would like to have seen come out this week but um yeah look you know he didn't have his best name look i think it's particularly fielding and dealing with kicks i think he'd like all of those back again um that that was that was there was the usual brain explosions and things where he was trying them when they come off he looks brilliant when they don't know yeah he looks like oh my god look he did have that one try that he set up which was good um which showed that he can do what he can do you know uh thank you for an inception and everything else it was yeah so who's your who's your ask learner loyd um i don't really have i didn't really have one i'm just gonna say magic in europe and that's good match i think that's right for dropping hard open at particular and they're not picking um apicrosa yeah yeah although i think riese robsen does a fine job and conner um i think that he's trying to he's obviously trying to play his up through the middle power game he side um you know what what we would give to have apicrosa and like i said to matt on the show a few weeks ago if you were choosing between riese robsen or apicrosa to add the raiders which one are you begging it's api all day so yeah no it absolutely is because he's a match winner like he'll actually he can make a difference and you want i think the nine has changed and when steve walters was the nine you wanted because he did that really good both left and right of the ruck um good dummy half running you and he do it could take a hit up quite well as and his defense and his defense was great and cam smith turned out on the head by doing all of that stuff but then bringing that dimension of real leadership and attack you know but you know who the prototype i think even before cam smith did the prototype of the modern nine that we we all want to have in our side now is bending your lice bending your lice was the main the main focal point now you hate bending lice as well and look he's an idiot but he was an incredible player and he was the main point of attack for for that look very good i had a sleep number nine sign jersey and he hated bending your lice up he hated bending your lice so that i yeah that's just the way that goes and look and is that a is that a shallow reason for doing it probably but i'm still gonna own it and so that's what it is um but yeah look i think one of ourselves i think i think we can say it's time to redeem ourselves because we're going down to play the storm and there's good news they have actually lost a match at home this season it was against the sharks it was on the back of possibly the dodgier sin-bidding of all-time parry ground oh that's right and and they still really want it anyway but they have lost at home that's the only match and all the other matches they won but there's two things that's been different for the storm in this season at home than others they're conceding a lot more points while they're scoring them they're also conceding a lot so you can score on them um and they're um meter each with the ball in hand up through the forwards isn't what it used to be having said that their order and their defensive lines in general um you know and they're sticking to the to the strategy bellamy ball is still pretty cool and they still you know harry grand will come back he's coming back from um orogen but he'll still be there we still got well maybe i should go through the team should i go through the team's blocker we we want to say i just want to say one thing about the storm i haven't actually felt as though by is in the 14 jersey out of mariotas in the 15 train moo he is in the 16 and welcome to the mullet from the rumour jordan martin in the 17 so four so just before we did the storm so ricky sort of in the press conference he was asked if there'll be changes and he said that there might be and he's sort of said that um in the past before and then there really haven't been that many changes and in terms of change as well hopawat is infinite cotraku heard his ankle and it actually battle pretty well through the rest of that game on the weekend with the sore ankle so that's an enforced change tom starlings come back in for wolfin wall presumably tommy was always going to come back in um zach's been out of favour all year and you know i think a lot of people had had big hopes um that when he finally came back in the side he he'd do good things and he had one good run but i don't know he doesn't look fit enough for mine um it's really hard to evaluate when the whole side plays like the part of crap that they need to actually say to one player that you know whether they were the difference or good or bad it's hard to actually you know i guess and i guess that's the thing i've kind of said you know about look you know we drop Emory Guller we've we've finally dropped him doesn't make that much difference well probably not but he it Emory Guller's the one player actually i think has had i would have said i would have had cook at seven i would have moved weeks back to one and we're up and back to the wing then um joey taps in the front row with um tray mooie starting uh mix it up a bit um then you could have danny lee bow you could have zak warford i don't really mind either way i think they both um have their strengths and and and their limitations um smelling young um in the background then i would have liked to see hoeber buru start at 13 i think he's ball playing at 13 there is a yo he comes to the perimeter system you watch new south wales cup he does that you know then you could have had that that weird he's got the number nine in regis this week and i'm yeah i watched i watched regis last week at nine i look obviously they want to work on him as potentially probably at 14 utility values so they're getting to play more more now but i would have liked to see him play first grade this week as as you ball playing 13 smity's i would have moved back to the bench um i think he's plateaued and and going backwards as the season's going on um maybe just playing through the middle uh you know give him a different role or start per a third and have him come on then add up papa and then yeah either you know probably starlight or guler um i think it's a reasonable thing but we've seen many times in the past that rick is not he's not a man of big changes he doesn't make wholesale changes he he will he will make them piecemeal one by one rather than drop up the only reason people generally go out the side on mass is through injury yeah you know it might make like you might lose a play the injury a player's suspension then he makes a change and then you have someone to rest or someone picks up a knock but he doesn't make wholesale change it's not interesting it's too destabilizing but people were calling for mass changes after that game but if you actually look at the news of the wales cup team um that played last week and who's available there are only so many changes you know there are only so many changes you make it's like people saying oh it's time for um Elliot to be given a rest who are you gonna put there you're gonna put on there's there's not that many options you know you put to see me sasagi on that edge i mean we saw what happened when we played was it the which game did he play it was the dart roosters oh i start yeah he is and then you got my old mate trentley arrow playing in the 13 he'll be fresh off hanging around with the queenslanders um so you know you say these names of like very storm you know that sort of storm um extended bench type of mid-tier sort of players that are in and out of the side krentley arrow is another one arach and if you if i was walking down the street i probably would recognize him that's true you absolutely wouldn't recognize and he probably doesn't he probably doesn't get stopped on the streets too often in melbourne i'd say to say well he's played virtually every game this year for the the side that's on top of the ladder so you know he's not too bad and that part of the reason they like being in melbourne is because that exact reason that the anonymity he wasn't previously everyone the extended bench because i don't think um he was eligible because he's like he's outside the top 30 but he's been on yeah yeah that's right anybody is now shilla who's pork smoky to come in if timber goes if pork smoky is ever going to get up i reckon this is the week and it's it's james shilla have we as as pork smoky got up at all this year i cut up one speed no i think we'll see him go in the center yeah you know i'd like to say i might see who is the rest of the bench then for the storm they got rema smith in the 18 jersey we've got erim maya in the 19 we've got alic mcdonald in the 20 cane bradley in the 21 and far a logo in the 22 and then chris lewis in the extended extended bench in the 23 jersey yeah well they've probably got an extended extend bench because they've named all their origin players so there's a potential that's someone back up but i think they're all back up i think they're all yeah well the he is so we got alic mcdonald a cane bradley who played for the north queensland cowboys and he's they booed against the melbourne storm in 2021 he's 24 he's been in and around he's meant to be a winger uh part logo we've seen he took um he's played at full bat for them recently um look haven't felt like our son i actually don't know he famously punched um who famously punched uh Jason taylor in the face yo who is someone you know who you know who is someone son actually told me to lout your place man he's no he's willy slout but um remember willy slout i played for the bollocks center i just found out here but like about some of these before they have their kids pretty young so that the next generation can roll around pretty quickly yeah young last boys well exactly um so i'm giving that extended bench to the uh stall because i don't think shill is going to be on it and you take him off there with his first great experience and rema smith has the equivalent of emeray and they're at home yeah i'm giving it to them you know that's that's what i'm doing try and stop me but i tell you look we've been very lucky because we here at flake and the pork have great pooling power out there don't we block it we do for one know i loved the john hardy no it was never that but i liked john hardy but i wasn't a huge fan it went i remember when terry reagan turned up at a club i loved him because he you never knew what was going to happen something was going to happen though something was going to happen when terry reagan and yeah he might bite something yeah and he wasn't going to take it backwards step you know i was there a secret i think we're playing wests and and the raiders chant changed to um reagan yeah i was instead of chanting raiders the crowd were chanting reagan but sliding to a moment we talked about anyway uh rinsed to win our time for uh who's got a lift whoo right uh so mine's going to be a controversial one yeah it'd be very easy to say serp chris it would be very easy to say um emeray guller but he's been dropped it'd be very easy to say danny levi um but mine who's got a lift is actually someone who you know we gave the man in the match to um what to this week who's been probably our best performing player all year but i think if we're going to win uh and i don't although he was you know statistically looked okay against tigers and was our man in match i don't think it was his best game by any means um it's actually jotapaning in order for us to beat the storm we need jotapan you have one of those games you know how um there's certain games where jared wear your hard graves just goes out and go i'm going to make this personal i'm going to rip and tear and i'm going to absolutely dominate my opponent um sand Burgess would do it you know they go i'm going to take him on the bulldogs pack you know i'm going straight after them and i'm going to decimate all of them we need jotapaning i mean he's been putting up good numbers he's been playing well but we need him to go into this game with a fire in his belly that he just wants to absolutely rip and tear i mean right as fans would say that he's the number one prop in the game i would but we know that on his day he can he's better than anyone any other prop in the area we need him to come out this week and absolutely own it and shut and maybe um papa's got to follow his lead as well well uh he'll it's it's interesting because i'm checking my notes here with who's got lift it says lift equals everyone except taps is what might actually say i'm the opposite i'm the opposite because there's no like you know he's the big dog he's getting the big bucks he's he's the one player in uh our side realistically you can say he's truly world class um and if we were to do anything it's got to be off the back of him thinking about that i'd say papa still world class he's dropped off he's getting old but he's still been one of our better players this is i mean he retired from origin but if if if if if if if every player in the current side was eligible for origin right the only one that's actually would be playing origin tonight would be jotaps there's no one else in the side that's getting picked for origin yeah no look i i do think he had a good man i hear what you're saying what you're saying is he can lead the guys out this slump by showing them the way and i agree with that having said that all the players from the last week um who i'm not going to car shade at the the one player i thought no but look even when even when he goes even when he just goes through the motions he's going to post good numbers yeah but they were great but if he's an area they were great numbers you know they they weren't but you said yourself i'll start to win that bad yeah i will take that but even when our stats aren't that bad 177 meters in that four tackle breaks two line breakers this three off loads only missed one tackle which is a standout for our forward pack in that match 21 runs look he worked could he have worked harder could he made more of a dent yeah look he could have but he was not the person and everybody else has to actually go and say you know go back to your old JFK ask not what your country can do if you ask what you can do to your country each one of those players has to stand up and make the difference they can make otherwise we are destined for the bottom four this season and i still hold out hope at the top four should bogey to come back which won't be till the beginning of august and our other players get back i still hold out hope we can because there's a great big chasm between the top couple and the rest i still hold out hope that's there because i still think we have that talent why why are you saying he's not coming back to the i think he's due back up the next bite i thought he was coming back first week of august that's 12 weeks that'll be 12 weeks and then even then is he going to come straight back in what does he have to come back in through regis how do you monitor he's not coming back in through regis okay he's going to be exhausted in that match so they're going to run at him all week and old game and expose his lack of match fitness he's got to have match fitness how do you get match fitness without playing you know or do you just take a thing and just have minders for him i don't know i don't know but anyway he's not playing this in the last couple anyway but who's got lift from me is pretty much everybody there but in spite of all this crap that's going on in the doom and gloom and the horror that's been going on there are in fact reasons to be cheerful and look i've actually got a big list of them right here one we are going this week into our southern home ground right we are going to our southern home ground drop that drop that man that's just like yeah all right it was fun while it lasted but yeah i'm clinging on to anything in a moment black i don't don't mess my buzz um and they have when i mention this the storm have lost the match at home this season so it is possible to beat them and the regis are going great guns right on top of that another reason to be cheerful is we are making some signings now which uh meaning that we're gathering the one problem i have this is the one problem i have with us going this whole youth way and i don't have much problem with it is we have to have key people with experience throughout our list that are going there that can be around the kids as they're coming up showing the way so tarponay is obviously going to be one of them coming up sorry jamaal is the other one jamaal is the parent jamaal is the parent jamaal is the parent jamaal is there tarponay is one but rather it's going to be going rather sane over here they'll keep in front of here they are absolutely and i think the fact that nick cottrix dale got withdrawn um says to me that ruppa is going to go around another year and they will keep ruppa um i think that got withdrawn when we got the kid from the dragons i think now i still i still i'm still really honestly believed they'll keep ruppa for another year and you apply he won't be thankful back to playing the wing and you know if you've got chevy there um ruppa's a minor ruppa if someone tries to rough chevy up yeah i guess he's going to be the first one in there to to have his back yeah no i guess i guess but he's just he's just it's how long you remember rate price than 86 grand final like he was gone like he was like he knew it he was giving his last effort and that and there's sometimes i look at the way ruppa plays i think to myself is this the last effort you know is this the last you're going to squeeze it right out until you can't he will he will that's that's the only way he knows i don't want to see him destroy his legacy that's the thing at the moment we've we've come to the agreement he took me a while but it comes to agreement he's the greatest greatest ever wing of the camperators but if he goes now another season and has five more brain explodes in match and then goes out with an injury which is next out of the game yeah what i'm saying is next year if he's playing on the wing and he's not trying to do everything himself he's not trying to be is he fast enough anymore that's that's the key and he he gets in the positions because he's such a pure competitor but when you're turning around if you've got the reverse of someone like bloody you know how's he going to keep catch dominant young right how's he going to do that how's he going to catch the flyer for his head off well yeah okay that's good but how does he keep up with the young blokes it's like you know it's always amazed me that Kelly Slater still gets three waves and every surfing race you know how he's doing well there's a will there's a way they're the outliers no look okay here's my reason to be cheerful and you almost did sort of write on my parade a bit there by i don't know where you get this is pork's alternative facts where you got this august thing from Jamal Fogarty is due to return after the bite he's due to return in round 20 we've only really got a couple more games until he's due to return so that's my reason to be cheerful although it is very dark at the moment it is very dark and it could you know it's pretty ugly it is ugly you know miracles are possible and who knows it could be the miracle of Melbourne once again but the same token i'm expecting things to be pretty dark on Saturday night so yeah get through that then we got a couple of games at home against you know more beatable teams but you know you would have thought that when we had our aspirations to make the top four a few weeks ago we did chalk up the games against Cowboys and and the West Tigers as wins and we did and we took this one up as a loss it was possible we was a loss so we've got this match then we host on Sunday the seventh the Knights who will be itching to give us a beating court we did in the first round then we've got we host in the in the eight o'clock times scale on Friday the 19th of July we host the Warriors who yeah that's after the bite so we got the buy they'll be round 19 is the buy we then we host the Rabbidos then we're away to the bulldogs host the resurgent Rabbidos we're away to the Cowboys home to the Panthers so you could chalk up two points for that one and then away to the roosters up their easy beats obviously and then away to the dragons to finish off look there are reasons to be cheerful but it's probably not that yeah did you see the Rabbidos released their jersey they'll be wearing itsters in that game no yeah and they they've got if they released it with the picture of Jack White and we're in the jersey so they're really uh they're really rubbing it is it a picture of jersey with a picture of Jack on the front of it oh yeah that that's that's probably that's probably called for it look we've got merchandise still is that right we do so we've still got um you know if you hate Jordan Rappner I hate you shirts they didn't sell that well this week they sold much better a couple weeks ago but you know they'll bounce back they'll
