[music] Welcome to the show, sports fans. This is the Treasure Valley PrepCast on idahoosports.com. That's right. Welcome in another off-season edition here on idahoosports.com of the Treasure Valley PrepCast, where we talk the biggest stories in District 3 Athletics week and week out. Six A, all the way down to 1A. You're in the great state of idaho that whole Treasure Valley. My name is Brandon Baney. Let's bring in our Treasure Valley resident and expert, Logan Green, LG. What's going on as we hit the end of July and get ready for August? Yeah, man. You know, I'm in that the grips of when does school start? That phase of kids is summer, right? Mom, Dad, entertain me every second of the day. No thanks. I'm not going to do that. So, you know, as we get down to the end of July, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, Brandon. Yes, for parents everywhere. Hey, when the school start again, we got to figure this out. Yeah, for sure. So, Logan, we've been doing these off-season interviews throughout the months of June and July here on idahoosports.com. Earlier this summer, our first Treasure Valley off-season interview was with Ethan Ingram from Vision Charter, the first boys basketball player in school history to sign with the college to continue playing hoops. And also Jason George, the boys basketball coach from Vision Charter, was on with us during that off-season interview as well. But we have done basically one per week from each of the regions we cover, North Idaho, Treasure Valley, Magic Valley, and East Idaho, and barring something happening here in the next couple of days, Logan, this is probably going to be our last one before we kind of take a hiatus and then come back in August with our regular weekly Treasure Valley prep cast. Because the start of another athletic season is like not that far away. No. Yeah, I think I've seen like people say, you know, football practices start soon. And yeah, we're not that far away. Yeah. So buckle up. And here we go. Our guest for today's off-season edition of the Treasure Valley prep cast is a guy who told me before we came on air, Logan. He said, basically, I'm in the office like every day now, working like summer is officially over. This is the athletic director from Cole Valley Christian School, Connor Jackson. Connor. Welcome. What's up, fellas? Good to see you. Yeah, likewise. So are you in your office right now? Back at it. Yep. Every day. My wife loves it. Well, so take us through what's, what, what are you doing? Because we're still in July. Competitions and practices don't start for another couple of weeks still, but like you said, this is the time of year where you're pretty much grinding every day in your office. What, what are you working? What does an athletic director have to work on at this point in the season? I don't know. I always want to ask the, the public school athletic directors that because I think they get most of the summer off. I'm here Monday through Thursday. We get like a little three week break at the end of June into July. Yeah, it's, as we were talking off air, like you're working on schedules. I'm, I'm working on schedules. I think there's a little bit of, I've been trying to figure out what spring is going to look like. I'm trying to get ahead. But with the kind of state baseball looking a little different next year, I know that the SRV hasn't really even come out with the conference schedules, but I've been busy. And I'm going to have a, a new athletics website for core valley Christian and in the process of trying to launch a new mobile app. Hopefully that's in line with kind of what you see at the college level. So that's been some of the fun projects that I've been working behind the scenes as we get ready to move up classifications to the SRV here in the, in the fall. So, so how that's, you know, that's the elephant in the room here with cold valley, right? The, the change, right? Moving up. How is that affecting your schedule? Because you had, you know, you were all used to making your, you know, regular schedules, right? With, you know, you had Marcin, Duplemoth, Ambrose, Napa Christian, you know, those schools for years, right? They were part of your conference. And now you're going into a new conference. So how has that been trying to line up conference schedules and non-conference schedules? Yeah, it's unique. It's different. I think it's sport to sport is what's making it unique because as I, I've had the kind of the ability to work with my current ADs in the WIC, like building some non-conference schedules. But I know, like there's some of my coaches. They're like, Hey, we want to put now that we're for a, we want to play some of the bigger schools and give ourselves some exposure there. And quite honestly, there's some, some WIC schools based, again, by sport. They're like, Hey, we don't necessarily want to play you in this sport. And so it's, it's been, it's been interesting. Like as we talked to some of the five A schools now and then talking with the WIC, right? Because in some ways, there's a lot of built in rivalries and great relationships that have been established over the years. As for instance, girls basketball, Melba. I've, I was taking a walk just yesterday thinking to myself in some ways that since I've been here, I've been here now going on seven years. That's right up there with Duke in North Carolina. I'm not joking in seven years. I think there's probably been one game that was not down to the wire. And so it's like, we want to preserve some of those rivalries that are sit there. Obviously our relationship with Napa Christian, boys basketball with Ambrose for the last couple of years has just gone back and forth. So there's some things there that's like, Hey, no matter what, we want to make sure that we get a game if not two on the schedule. But also there's just kind of new relationships that I'm jumping into with some of the bigger schools of like, Hey, you guys want to play us now and in relationships that I haven't had in the past. So yeah, you're just trying to figure and navigate all of those new kind of avenues and trying to figure it all out. It's been, it's been different. So before we dive into what lies ahead for Cole Valley Christian now as a for a school, which again, to remind everybody is what used to be three. Everybody changed classification. It's going to take time, right? People are going to be screwing this up for the next, the next year. And then finally we've been taking full advantage of it though. Like I created this hashtag as we built the new website level up 24. I thought I was being clever. We're going from two eight to four a and it's the year 24. But like it sounds like more than it actually is because like, whoa, you're moving from two eight to four a what and it's like, it's not the way to three a but at the same time they change the classification. So it sounds like we're making this steep jump to classifications when really we're just moving to the SRV. Yeah, that's funny. So, but let's look back on what was Cole Valley Christians last year as a member of the two a soon to be three a Western Idaho conference. It was an incredible year for Cole Valley Christian athletics. Eight of your nine athletic programs qualified for state, including for the first time ever, all of the spring sports with baseball and softball and track and field. And so, you know, the one team that didn't make it to state still at a great season. That was the football team, but every other sport not to state. I mean, what an incredible year it was Connor. Yeah. I think ultimately any athletic director, right? As you look at your programs, like you just want to be competitive. If you want to be in it till the end. And so as we kind of evaluate where our athletic programs are, we're really excited that everyone's competing. I think I joke with Mark, our football coach. It's like I was going to an AD conference last year and it's like football is the front porch of your athletics department, right? And our football team maybe hasn't had as much success as we want. And Mark is working tirelessly behind the scenes to make that happen. But overall, yeah, we were super excited. I think what's hard is like we made we had eight teams go to state. And we're still licking our wounds and talk to Kelly over at Ambrose a lot. They swooped one or two championships from us there at the end. It was some great competition and the boys basketball arena as well as golf. But yeah, overall we're super satisfied with where we're at. And we just keep trying to excel still more in all of the programs that we have. Was there one that was most rewarding or more rewarding than the others to see make it to state? Yeah, I think. I think of two are the softball because it was where it was, right? Up in Orafina may have not have gotten the press had it been maybe in the treasure valley or whatever. But that state softball tournament, I was at the whole thing. You could have written a movie about it. It was hands down the best. High school athletics have been I think I've ever been to. We were we were we played melade right on the day before in this. What would be the semi final game, but it's a double limb. And we lost like a one run game against the melade team that hasn't lost a single game in three years. And I went back to my hotel room just slumming. I'm like, man, we are not going to get a state championship this year when we've had. I mean, our volleyball team had a chance there at volleyball. Our cross country team had a chance, obviously boys basketball, and I'm sitting there in the spring like. This just this is a bummer. And so I actually my volleyball coach and I had a phone call the next morning where he was encouraging me and just telling me, hey, things are going well. Fight good fight and then all of a sudden I rolled out to the state softball tournament that last day. Our girls played a great game against new Plymouth one. And so now we're lined up with melade. We're going to have to beat them twice if we're going to win state against a team that hasn't lost a single game in three years. That's you're not going to do it. And we took it to him the first game and played really well in one and it's like, all right, like, we'll see. And then you go into that last game. Our catcher is at the end of the day is caught like 20 plus innings. It was super hot out there. Our pitcher ended up going down in the fifth inning like she dropped at first base from like a heat stroke. And we had to turn the last two innings over to our freshman pitcher who's not. She's a freshman in that in that kind of situation and we were up like two runs against a melade team that was just, they had us on the ropes and so you're just sitting there like kind of the inevitable is about to happen. And they took us to extras they scored. I think they had a base runner on third with two outs and they hit one through. I think the five six hole got the run to tie it to go to extra innings and I was just like, and we were so close to winning this thing. And we had the bottom of our lineup coming up. They start extra innings and with like one out hit a shot to our shortstop Lola who catches it runs to third doubles them up. Right. And so we were able to start with the runner on second because they kind of do what the major leagues does in the extras and. And we hit our girl who's never played soft off softball before hits a bloop over the shortstop's head and it looks like she caught it our girl tags there's this huge like play at the plate. They're talking about it whether we want or not. And so we walk it off we have a walk off state championship win and I'm not kidding you it was like you can make a movie about it it was incredible. And so like I we came home that night just again, you have to win two games against a team that has literally not lost in three years I think my lads won four state titles in a row. That one was incredible. Truly like softball maybe doesn't get as much press as some of the other sports but that in terms of high school athletics was one of the coolest. And so that's what I mean is I've seen by a group of kids. And I told them a lot afterwards it was like we're celebrating right now. But the only reason that it's as cool as it is is because we have so much respect for you guys like and what you guys have done it makes it that much for special for us and I know that's hard to. To understand in the moment as you guys are kind of licking your wounds but it was it was a really cool athletic event. The wild softball weekend where four of the five championships went to that if necessary final game Kimberly was the only team that actually defended their undefeated record it stated and pulled off the win and so it was just an incredible finish. So what was a fantastic year for coal value Christian Logan I know you were very plugged in during basketball season was almost like you were living at coal value Christian you were doing games there. You were at Ambrose you I mean you were all over the WIC. Yeah I mean we we you know jokingly say we're the WIC network sometimes during during that that time of year right feel like we're always going around of those places but man I mean I gosh I can't remember a championship game and it was girl it was Melba Cole Valley there at Cole Valley couple years ago and you know it's just a great environment was packed to that you know to the brim everybody was there. But I tell you what going to that from my point of view that state championship game I know you guys lost but the boys basketball with against Ambrose. There have been as in as loud in there for that two way championship as any other championship game that at least I sat through that day. There was a ton of people like going up against a conference rival in a championship setting like that at the Ford Idaho Center. Yeah I was sitting behind the bench when they dim the lights which is a cool thing they added this year I thought it just added to the moment. I was in the Idaho Center and I looked up I was talking to a couple people around me I'm like dude this is impressive for a to a championship game it was really cool. There were so many storylines as I think a lot of it has been documented by now but it's been a really cool relationship between Ambrose and Cole Valley Christian and I have a great relationship with Kelly who's AD over at Ambrose obviously Ken Sugarman and Dan Waldek have been best friends for a long time they coach college basketball at the Masters University I think over a decade together but they're best friends tie Hughes who killed us in the game and Ben Begglinger who's one of our focal points of that team they've been best friends since they were kids and they've talked about playing in the state championship since they were little like all of that coming to fruition on that last day both of our games this year were over time like we beat him by three and then we obviously Paul I think was in the house for the game at our place on senior night and beat him hit a buzzer beat go to overtime and then had like a last second kind of crazy game against him so yeah going to that we obviously didn't play well in the first half of our guys came back Eli was you know three rimmed out at the buzzer there we would have went to overtime yet again with them but I think that one specifically I think of that game and the reason I wanted it so bad is I think oftentimes private schools kind of can get this rap of like oh we're out here recruiting kids which is we're on record right now so I won't say anything but there's a lot of there's a lot of NIL stuff pouring down into the high school ranks these days but for us it was like my starting five I have three of them that are lifers at Cold Valley literally started as kindergartners five of them have at least been at CVCS for six years right in Carson Sam Eli Hunter and Ben and that was our starting five and so it was just like it was a special group I've been with those guys for six years and so it was kind of like yeah that's what I want to be about at Cold Valley right is like we're trying to develop programs where these kids are here for the for the duration and I've had a lot of conversations with my coaches about just that it's like that's what makes it more special and so yeah no that was a that was a fun day at that one stung we won't lie like we came back here for a week it was just we were slum and hard but it was it was fun those are those are memories that will last a lifetime I think that's what makes sports so great right the highs are high and the lows can be low speaking from a Mariners fan perspective I know all about the lows but yeah those are those are fun fun things and those moments you can't take away and it was like you said Logan earlier like I was talking to Tim Little who's been at Marcin for a long time coaching boys basketball the season when I talked to him he was like this is the most competitive this league's ever been and I think sometimes it's easy to forget like we went undefeated in league play this year our boys basketball team did we had a heck of a ride but it's not like our Dan Waldek would say it's not an NBA series it's a one game to one game match and and on that day tie in the boys got us so tip our caps I remember all season long every week Logan and I would talk about the two AWIC and I I kept saying there's no way Cole Valley can keep doing this the other shoes can interrupt and eventually at some point and I had to I had to wear it because you guys did you were so good start to finish all the way to the end and so I know my charger status was provoked for a while and I was glad to be wrong though because it was it was so fun to watch you guys through the course of the season so like you said you've developed some strong relationships in that Western Idaho conference that's a great time people there but now you're kind of trading those in for new relationships new athletic directors new coaches is there is there a coach and AD in this new Snake River Valley conference that you've kind of gravitated towards in your early dealings with everybody I've had a lot of so they're all great I've worked with all of them a little bit Connor, Connor Kennedy at McCall was actually in our conference for a little bit so I've worked with Connor even in the WIC going back a few years and then Casey we both serve on the commissioner advisory board together for the last couple years he was a 3a rep I was a 2a rep I think he's given that given that up to me now that I'm moving into the SRV doesn't need to drive out here but so I have relationship with with most of them at least a little bit and then obviously Casey Clark who is at AD at Melba for a number of years he and I became really close friends he's a VP over at Weezer so there's definitely some relationships there I'm definitely a creature of habit and don't like change so I got pretty emotional in my last AD meeting at the WIC just thanking all of them just for their relationships because honestly it is you kind of understand what they mean when you hear like Heisman fraternity or whatever it is like no one else understands the AD gig other than other ADs and so it becomes a little bit of a fraternity amongst one another and so I appreciate those relationships and I'm definitely going to miss everyone in the WIC Tina palki was a huge help to me as I started as a young whipper snapper back in 18 my first year as AD so yeah definitely going to miss those relationships and looking forward to to working with these guys in the SRV yeah Logan it's going to be interesting with all of the similar names that are in this SRV now so Connor laid out a couple of them right there's Connor Kennedy at McCall not only that's Connor with one N and this is this is Connor Jackson with two N's Connor spelled the same Casey Clark who's a vice principal at Weezer Casey Grove who's the athletic director at home Dale and then you've got two VW is right you've got Mark van we at Fortland and then you've also got Bovon Bretthorst at Weezer right as the ADs yeah both great dudes too I really appreciate it getting to know Bo and Mark they're they're good dudes so least favorite part is the AD meetings are now I think out towards Payette so I got an hour drive instead of driving out to Nampa Christian I've been spoiled so so that'll be a little bit of a little different but looking forward to it yeah all of a sudden your road trips are now infinitely you know more more more long right I don't know what the word I'm looking for there is I'm going in off air that's been the cell I think that's been the selling point for Ambrose and Nampa Christian as they try to hire similar coaches is like hey you're not going to have to travel as far now it's more about my my rebuttal to that is at least at least this year is we've done a lot of just switching in the sense that our non-conference games are conference games are conference games are non-conference because we still have a lot of Melba Nampa Christian new Plymouth all those all those teams Ambrose are who were kind of playing a non-conference so it's really just a flip flop for our schedule at least for the next two years and then we'll see what happens after that but yeah no no doubt more trips out to McCall-Homedale-Weezer it'll be a little bit extra mileage for our transportation apartment for sure and then you know on one of our on a North Idaho off-season podcast we did we had Michelle Barger the girls basketball coach in Greyville a lot yeah she she she she's exactly what their mascot is man Michelle's a bulldog no doubt she she told us that they're they're swinging through this season they're going to play ryrie at a neutral site in Mountain Home but the night before that she said they were going to swing by your place and play Cole Valley yeah no we that's another that's just another great Rob I mean we've gone back and forth with them we have so much respect for Michelle and her team's grind and and so we love playing with them when we can and they're going to bring it back another good squad so it was important for beggling your night to try to get them on the schedule so we're happy it worked worked out looking forward to it and that's that's the thing too is like how much between the 2a 3a we've always felt like they're similar and so like there's there's great teams now what will be the 3a there's still really good competition there that we don't want to to lose so it's like it's good to get Melbourne the schedule it's good to have Greenville still there those teams will make us better as we get ready get later into the season for sure so so tell our audience a little bit about just call that like Christian school because we think private religious schools and everybody immediately thinks Bishop Kelly right and they are kind of the gold standard in terms of how how you do everything but like you said there's some misconceptions there's people that think oh they just recruit everybody and I mean you do operate a little bit differently from the public schools but just kind of explain to our audience what Cole Valley Christian school is all about yeah I mean we are I think we're the biggest private school K through 12 I may be miss big speaking there but K through 12 I think we are the biggest private school private school in our school I mean as you see we're moving up classification of course we're going to be at the bottom of enrollment of that classification now for a few years until we move to the new campus but yeah we're a Christ centered education that's that's our focus I always tell parents at our beginning of the year coaches or parent meeting rather that I don't think that being Christ like and competitive are mutually exclusive I tell them that every year I think those two things can be blended and so we want to do those things to the best of our ability right so we want to make sure that Christ is on display. That is the most important thing to us and I hope we never lose sight of that mission at our school even as we grow. But we want we want to excel in athletics we want to bring in really high quality coaches I feel like we've done that even the spring we lost some really good coaches and Doug O'Brien on the volleyball side of things Dan Waldek is leaving boys basketball and we even lost our strength and conditioning coach but we're bringing in Riley Evans who played volleyball at Cal Baptist life Carl Berg's our new boys basketball coach he was up as the co head coach up at Elsie state for five years and is super well plugged in and the basketball community out here in the treasure valley and so and then Jordan Hensland as our new strength and conditioning coach so I think it's a blend right you you want to have good players sure but like you got to have good coaches the quality of coaches always trying to raise that standard because they're the ones developing our student athletes and building those programs so it's a it's a blend of that but I think yeah we're always trying to communicate even even in house like the Christ like standard is is up most of importance to us but we also want to excel in athletics and so we're trying to strive for those two things at the same time. You guys may have heard of or driven by a why he high school we got a new we have a capital campaign that's kind of underway we're trying to build a new campus over there that where the K through 12 will be all on one site and so we'll have our own baseball softball field are new a new football stadium track and field all of that stuff and at that point our school will grow even more because we'll have more room to but right now we're we're kind of at capacity until we move to that new campus. So it is what it is. Yeah I think there's almost a renaissance of more parents and kids are maybe looking at private religious schools as opposed to just the public schools that are in town I know in Moscow up in North Idaho where I live there's a religious school called Logos and they're doing the same thing you guys are there they're going to expand a K 12 they're growing all the time they're building kind of a brand new campus where everything is going to be all in one place. And so it is interesting to see it swing a little bit the other direction. The other thing I was going to ask is that I know at a lot of religious private schools there is an emphasis placed upon okay if you're going to come here and be a student you're not just going to be a student you're going to be involved in extracurricular activities and so some of these schools have participation rates of like 90% or greater in terms of the student body that are participating in extracurriculars is that something that is also happening at call Valley. Yeah, I think that's the probably the biggest concern that I have as we whenever we get to the new campus is in some in some ways right we'll have this shiny new toy. And with a new campus new everything and so you'll we just want to make sure that we're partnering with the right families that they're here for the right reasons I think sometimes it'll be only athletic motivated and that's saying coming from the athletic director. But I genuinely I'm on mission with the school of we want to make sure we're partnering first with families that want to be here because they want their kids have a Christ centered education. And that will be a challenge as it always is as schools expand and grow. There is value is not just athletics right, whether it's the drama department or whatever it is. When you have kids that participate in some of the extracurricular stuff there's more buying from the families and the students to be part of the call Valley Christian community and so we want both. Yeah, like there's there's obstacles and things that you got to be aware of as your school gets bigger. And so we'll just have to navigate that as time goes, but we feel like we're in a really good place again I think we have a remarkable staff at call Valley Christian. And just people that are willing to be invested in the students life disciple them and love on them so I think that's what makes call Valley Christian unique. So we're super relation relationally driven to love on the students here. Yeah, and that's, I know a lot of times people will shorten it to call Valley, you know, for putting a team on a bracket or something. I always try to include that Christian part because I do. I think that's one of the most important things you can do I feel like you guys get short changed sometimes I know it's a long name but what they just put call Valley. I try my best when I make those graphics if it doesn't fit then I do it's only because it's too long. I'm smiling because you guys have no idea how how appreciative our upper admin would be our superintendent Alan Howlett and even our CFO Brett moment would be would be thanking you guys right now. It's always even as an athletic director, we kind of go back and forth because I've been just trying to use a CBCS because it's hard right you can't put call Valley Christian on everything. Sometimes it does get shortened to call Valley even at games you're like hey wait a second, we want to make sure that we're understood as a Christian school so yeah I'll throw CBCS on more and more stuff just. It's the acronym it gets the point across but yeah no I laugh because you have no idea how many conversations even internally that we have on our branding. So I got to the point where I first got to Idaho and I thought Cole Valley was just like the name of the town or something like that's probably some because I lived in East Idaho that you know. Treasure Valley was a holy world to me and then my first interaction with anything Cole Valley Christian athletic related was. I think it was Coach Moreno's first year as the football coach. They were you guys were playing at Westside in an conference football game and I was down there to broadcast it. Kyle Allen was on staff, he was the defensive coordinator just a rock star coaching staff he's now. Yeah it was a state. I was like these guys are pretty cool and you know that game didn't go well for you guys but so much. But it's the people to make the school. Yeah I actually had a we had a coaches banquet for the coach or the coach of the year thing that I went to and and the thing I I mimicked. As you guys can tell I'm a big Seattle guy grew up in Seattle. So my copkins who kind of got let go at UW had said something in his last press conference he was like places are just places great people make great places and that resonated with me for sure is just like it's the people that make anywhere you want to go a great place and I feel like that we have that here at Cole Valley. The context there too I found out when I got here because I didn't really have any ties to Cole Valley I moved here from Southern California back in 2014. I think Cole and Valley one was a K through eight and one was the high school and so they merged back in 1999 to make Cole Valley. So that's where that's where the two blended to become what it is today. I've been doing research, you know, going back and trying to compile, you know, playoff history and all the stuff for all the schools and yeah I'm looking and I'm like looking at old records and like Valley Christian I'm like, what is this? That's what it used to be called up until that merger happened in the late 90s. Yeah. Yeah. So while you're building the new campus, you have in house facilities for most things but you do have to play and get creative for like what baseball softball football. Yeah, we're modern day gypsies I like to say so baseball football we are excuse me baseball softball we have a relationship with Meridian Parks and Rec so we ran out. Story Park and Heritage Middle for baseball softball and then football is been it's been difficult in my tenure here. Thankfully, I was able to strike a relationship with Dane right away when a why he was built and I have my youngest brother Colby to think for that because he had Dane as a teacher at Rocky my brother my brother went to Rocky Mountain was on the football team over there but he built a good relationship with Dane and so I kind of slid in and took advantage of that and Dane has been super gracious to us so I think it's been going on three years now that we've kind of partnered with them and I pay them a rental fee and they allow us to use their their place for our home games which has been super nice because it's a challenge for sure like I know as an AD how much work that is to allow I mean that's a big those are big events. And so for to allow someone else to come in and use your space. It's a lot so I've been yeah super appreciative to Dane. Hopefully, we'll have a new campus here soon so I don't have to go begging everybody to use their fields. Yeah, it'll just make a big big traffic jam when you guys and Hawaii have a home game on the same night right if you get I live basically right across the street from it's a it's a yeah. It's a stone's throw away uncle Rico from the point dynamite could could hit it from a wise, but yeah I live two minutes from there. Yeah, I'll drive by from time to time and it's like the new highways being built the overpass is being built over there and it's, it'll be interesting. It'll definitely be interesting if we if we have to, you know, share a game night or whatnot but I think everyone at Cole Valley just eager to to get over there getting done. Yeah. Yeah and maybe I'm just misremembering this Connor but for football season because you are basically, you know, using a why he's field. You had to get creative with dates to write you've played a lot of Saturday night. Yeah, and that is funny too because again I sit on the commissioner advisory board so the officials are always trying to, you know, with a lack of officials here. Like they're trying to push dates to Thursdays your Saturdays and I tell the SRV hey don't worry about it we'll take care of the entire league we have half of our games on Saturdays so we should be taking care of. Yeah, no, we have to play some Saturday under the lights. So it is what it is I mean we've kind of just adopted our school and some of our sports football in particular it's just like well, we got to play when we got to play and we'll play who we got to play it's just what we do so. Yeah, no it's just it's just part of the it comes with the territory. Again Lord willing someday soon we won't have to do that as much but it is what it is. Yeah Logan has the resident bracketologist at Idaho sports.com I, you know, everyone's always asking me about what's the bracket looking like and you know back sprints what's the rankings going to be like and so many times I'm like well we got to wait for cold day on Saturday first. Yeah, yeah, you know what happened this week. Sorry. There's a problem. Yeah, slow down production. Sorry. No, you're good. Logan do you have any more questions for Connor before we wrap up. You know my question right is what I mean you kind of hit on it right but if you're looking ahead right what is your vision for the new campus right you mentioned you want you guys want to have have all your fields in house is that still. You know what does that look like there you know I've seen so many new schools have these great facilities is that on the dock for you guys or with those come later or with those come with the school just just just curious like what that's going to look like. You know in a perfect world right. Yeah so the architects LKB our architecture plans are actually if they're not 100% they're like 95% built. So everything's kind of of that's parts done. We're just working on raising money so if anyone actually, you know, is hearing and wants to give significant amount of money to campaign hit me up. Yeah, no, there's going to be a football field in the track is in the plans a baseball in the softball field are in the plans. A multi purpose kind of soccer football field are there and then we have like some elementary kind of green space and then in addition we'll have a middle school gymnasium a high school basketball gymnasium. And I think it's been scaled back for now but eventually we'll have an elementary gymnasium as well. And so yeah no it's the it's the full deal we'll have you know I've been working with a company as well on the strength and conditioning side I think we'll have a pretty sweet weight room to go along with that. So it's it's a takes patience and I think also it's just kind of always weighing out our acoustics if you've been into our gymnasium needs could use some upgrading but it's just that constant conversation of how much money do we pour into this building when we know that's kind of where we're pushing towards. And so there's a lot of that going on but yeah no I mean that's it'll be it'll be the real deal it'll be a sweet facility once we can raise the money and start putting a shovel in the ground. Here in the next couple of years will be over there and it'll be fun. And you know there's one other thing I'm glad you mentioned the kids on your basketball team right that had been there for many years because in our position we hear all sorts of different angles of opinions on various things and we always hear the private issues public, and I will I back you guys and all the other private schools I just don't know why people have such a people do have a problem with it. I know you opened this can of worms so here I am. I didn't start it. And so I'm just glad you said that I'm not going to dig any deeper into it but I don't want to go down that route but I want it like it and you said it in your other stuff it is more you're not just like going and picking up the best kid and saying hey come in here. We're going to we're going to load our team and go dominate all these other you know small towns right that's that's not where you're starting you're starting. If the family is a fit if the kid is a fit at the school first and not not on the basketball court not on the football field right it is it is about the school and the family and the student first. And then you know what if you play sports great. And if you're a great athlete hey that's great but that's not where it starts and I mean you backed it up right you said these kids have been there for six years it's not like they all transferred in together. Two of them were lifers from kindergarten. Yeah 100%. I think people need to hear that that's in my opinion I think people need to hear that that it's that that's how it is that you know that yes there is some people you know people might move in but it's not like you guys are out there. Having you know try outs to to to coach kids from every school in the state of Idaho which is. I don't know that always just leaves you read comments and they like they're frustrating to me because I've lived this job now for seven years. And the seat and it's like yeah parents are they not exposed to everything and so you just write whatever and perceptions reality but. I mean I can tell you for you want my football coach to come on here let you know I mean we've gotten poached way way more than anything and I think part of it is probably just the fact that we're in the treasure valley. And so you have a bunch of bigger schools right you have all of all of whether it's a Y Rocky Mountain view like all the eagle there's just bigger schools around us and so big fish maybe so to speak but yeah no like we've. We definitely feel the other side of that way more than there's we don't recruit and part of that straight up Matt Begglinger who was 18 for nine years before for I was here. I mean he, he loaves any conversation of recruiting he absolutely hates it and so I mean he would turn anyone away quicker than they could blink I mean it's just not. And so I really as I came into this role and had conversations. I just tethered to him and that and so it's and it was very foreign because I came from Southern California, where all of the private schools recruit all of them do. And so maybe that's where some of that perception is there, but yeah I can just tell you from sitting in this chair for seven years, we're much we care way more about just the partnership with the families because if you don't have that the rest of it. We're going to talk really quickly. And so we want to make sure that we're, you know, brand new men just mentioned logos good old Douglas Wilson up there he's a lightning rod and I personally love him but yeah like probably more similar to them right and in terms of what we're after we're after partnership with the families first and foremost and so what people you can't you can't change people's opinions necessarily right they're going to say what they're going to say. And that's fine but yeah no we there's no recruiting going on it at cold valley Christian so Yeah I'm glad to clear that up because we were talking about that during the school year Logan and I had mentioned just my experience growing up in Montana there was one Catholic school and in the city I grew up in and I did get recruited by the football coach and I ultimately didn't go but all I said was that was my experience. I didn't say anything about cold valley but I think some people got it twisted around that I was accusing cold valley of recruiting and I was like I'm just sharing my story like what happened to me in a different state and like it sounds like you have you know from Southern California the same thing right Connor there's no boundaries right at a private school so in that way like a private school could like a lot do go out and they'll they'll hunt for kids. And again that was my experience going to a public school in Southern California was like you have all these premier high level athletic programs at private schools and so that was the case. So I totally understand where that sentiment comes from, but I can speak for Ambrose Nampa Christian and us I just, I don't see it. We definitely feel the opposite of that more than than anything. And Logan as we all learned if a school called Bishop Sycamore comes and asks you to join their team run away in the opposite direction right. We can throw them under the bus all we want to bash somebody will bash them. Yeah for sure. All right well Connor Jackson athletic director at cold valley Christian school.
