This is the Evil Never Dies Podcasts Midweek Show. Keep it evil, everyone! Let Evil Never Dies Podcasts Midweek Show. Let Evil Never Dies Podcasts Midweek Show. [music] What's up, Evil Ones! Welcome back to the Evil Never Dies Podcast. Season 4's first midweek episode. How's everybody doing so far this week? Good, I hope. How's everybody liking-- I know I didn't put it on this episode, but I didn't have time to put a new intro on the for the midweek, so you got the old one, but how's everybody liking the new intro on the main episode? Let us know. And also, I'm looking into getting some new video editing software, so I can do some cooler graphics and stuff. You're limited on what you can do with the free stuff, so. Looking into that, so hopefully that's going to happen soon also. Alright, this week, we're going back to 1984 for Doc & Second Studio Album, Tooth & Nail. And if you don't know who Doc & Is, they are a Los Angeles, California-based heavy metal band formed in 1978. Alright, the band members on this album are Don Doc & on lead vocals, George Lynch on guitars on and off. I guess he quit the band a bunch of times during this era of the band. Next, we got Jeff Pilsen on bass and vocals, and this was his first album with the band. He replaced Juan Grosier, who went on to play with Rat. And last but not least, we got Mick Brown on drums. This album was recorded in the spring of 1984 at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood, California. Although George Lynch started laying down riffs for the record over the holidays in 1983. Genre is heavy metal, the length of the album is 38 minutes and 11 seconds, released on electro records, which electro actually wanted to drop them after their first album, Breaking the Chains was released. They actually released it in 1981 over in Europe, and it never got released in the U.S. and then electro records picked it up, and it didn't do very good. So they were thinking about dropping them from the label, but they didn't. Alright, the production team, we got Tom Wurman as the producer, Roy Thomas Baker, associate producer, Jeff Wurman and Gary McCacken, engineers, mixed by Michael Wagner, mastered its sterling sound by George Marino, and the art album art was done by Bob Deafrin. Now the production for this album is a little crazy, for sure. Don Docken actually wanted the guy who produced their first album to produce this one, and electro records said no way, so they brought in the Tom Wurman, and I guess they butted heads, and so he went back to the electro record and said, "Hey, you know, I'm not getting along with this guy, can we get some help here?" So that's when they brought in Roy Thomas Baker. He more or less was brought in to like oversee, make sure nobody killed each other, because you had Don Docken and Tom Wurman disagreeing on stuff, and then you had George Lynch and Don Docken bucking heads, because high ego is there, and also cocaine and alcohol were in the mix, so yeah, probably lucky they even got this album done and out. And on top of that, I guess like when they were halfway through the production of it, Tom Wurman just took off for like a month on vacation with his family, didn't hear from him for a month. Crazy, crazy shit. But anyway, they barely got the album finished for a release date of September 14th of 1984. Alright, charts and certifications get up to 49, peaked out at 49 on the Billboard Top 200 in the U.S. in 1984. And it went platinum in October of 1989 in the U.S., so a million copies sold in the U.S. alone. It's not counting overseas, so. Alright, let's go over the track listing. Side one, track one, without warning, and that's George Lynch's instrumental. Track two, title track of the album, tooth and nail, and that starts off with a, that's a banger for sure, it's almost got a thrash sound to it. Track three, just got lucky, that's more of a poppy. Pop metal sound, I guess you might say. Good though, it's still hard, still. And also that was their second single that they released. And there was also a music video on MTV. Track four, Heartless Heart, again another little poppy, pop metal song there. Track five, don't close your eyes, that's a little harder there. Same with track six off the side two when heaven comes down. Track seven, Into the Fire, that was the first single that they released, and there was also a music video for it. Track eight, Bullets to Spare, Track nine, Alone again, and that's probably their biggest single ever than they released that. They didn't release that until like the spring of 1985 though. And last but not least, we got track ten, Turn on the Action. And that is the track listing for Doc and Tooth and Nail. Alright, the tour supporting the album started on October 6, 1984 in Lubbock, Texas. Open it up for Twisted Sister and Y&T, and then they did a bunch of dates with DO and then a bunch of dates with Kiss throughout the end of 1984. And beginning of '85, they went on support in Sammy Hagar, ending the tour in Syracuse, New York on April 10th of 1985. Alright, that's all the info I got on this album. My thoughts, when this first came out in 1984, I loved this album, bought it when it first came out, played the shit out of it. It still sort of holds up today. You know, you got your hit songs on there off this one, your three or four of them. Alone again, that's probably one of the most... infamous metal ballads there is, so... I believe this is the most successful album. I like this album. Really ain't a bad song on it. I suggest listening to it, so... With that being said, I'm going to give it a 3.8. I would give it a 4, but the sound quality on this album isn't the best. I really wish they would remaster and re-release their older catalog. It doesn't sound that great, so that's why I'm not giving it a 4. So... Alright, that's all I got for Docking tooth and nail. So, stay tuned for some snippets. If you've never heard this, anything off this record before? Hit that like and subscribe button on the YouTube. And I haven't had a iTunes review in forever. Anyway, check us out on all the social medias, we're not hard to find. And we will talk to you Sunday night. Steve, everybody. Desperate, driving me mad, running on the wall. Cushed all the hopes and the dreams we once had, just who once lived for. Telling up in the data, putting it down at night. How long does it turn to break the sun? Straight to the turn to the nail. Last generation, reckless and free of goodness because thoughts are breathing. I'm going through me, feeling nice in the clouds. Telling up in the data, putting it down at night. How long does it turn to break the sun? Straight to the turn to the nail.
