This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Plato's work, The Republic, in particular book 2.

Specifically it examines the theory about the nature and origin of justice presented there by Glaucon -- a view that justice arises primarily because human beings realize that their chances of getting away with committing injustice are lower than their chances -- or the harm done -- of avoiding suffering injustice.
