Egypt to receive Gaza wounded and Israel strikes Lebanon
This is trending your daily rundown of news from the Middle East and around the world brought to you by the National. From Abu Dhabi, I'm Yasmin Altaji, here are today's headlines. Hospitals in Egypt are reportedly preparing to receive wounded people from Gaza once the border reopens with the Palestinian territory in the coming days. At least 15 ambulances were seen lined up and waiting on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing on Tuesday. The governor of Egypt's North Sinai region said patients will be transferred to hospitals in Cairo or other parts of Egypt if their number exceeds capacity in Rafah. Israeli strikes wounded 24 people in South Lebanon Tuesday. Despite a ceasefire that has been in effect for more than six weeks according to the Lebanese health ministry. At about 7.30am an Israeli drone carried out "a strike with a guided missile targeting a small vegetable truck" in Nabatea al-Fauqah, the state-run national news agency reported. Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday condemned the strikes. He calls for Israel's implementation of its commitments to the ceasefire during a phone call with U.S. General Jasper Jeffers, who chairs the monitoring committee, according to a statement from the PM's office. And President Sheikh Mohammed on Tuesday held a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subramani M.J. Shankar at Al-Bahar Palace in Abu Dhabi. Mr. J. Shankar conveyed the greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Sheikh Mohammed's responding to convey his wish for a strengthening of ties between the UAE and India. The meeting discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and international issues of common interests. State news agency Wham reported. That's all for this morning's headlines.
