Santa Barbara Talks Podcast 101: Wendy Sims-Moten

Santa Barbara Unified School District Board Member Wendy Sims-Moten talks with podcast host Josh Molina about racial prejudice, violence and discrimination in Santa Barbara schools. Sims-Moten spoke out strongly at a recent board meeting, calling on District officials do better in addressing problems at schools. Sims-Moten talks about "anti-Blackness," the decision to end implicit bias and cultural proficiency training in schools, and what's ahead for the school district. The conversation comes after several reports of racial violence and harassment in Santa Barbara schools. A 30-year resident of Santa Barbara County has a deep-rooted interest in the progress, development, and well-being of this community and its residents. Wendy has worked for the County of Santa Barbara for 24years. She started her career in the County General Services Department in 1996 as an account clerk, then in 1999, as the Senior Departmental Assistant for First 5 Santa Barbara County, where she worked her way up through the department to her current position of Executive Director. Wendy also served on the original Santa Barbara County Employee University Governing Council and also served as a mediator in the County’s Mediation program.
