(upbeat music) Welcome to Flashpump, guest episode four. This evening, we present Coffin, Walker, by Three Day Fish. This episode is brought to you by Three Day Fish on Facebook. (upbeat music) Flashpump is an experiment in broadcasting fresh pulp stories in the modern age. Three to 10 minutes of fiction brought to you Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. Tonight, Will Coffin, Urban Shaman, and his tipsy roommate, Bunny, meet a man with a particular talent. Coffin, Walker, written by Three Day Fish, art and narration by Opoponax, an audio produced by Jessica Maine. (upbeat music) Coffin was sitting on a park bench, a brown paper bag to his right, and a disheveled looking man and many years his senior to his left. The day was overcast, but otherwise pleasant, and many of the city's citizens were out taking advantage of the unseasonably warm autumn afternoon. Bunny was leaning against a tree, discreetly drinking from a flask. "So who's he again?" asked Bunny. "His name is Walker," replied Coffin. "And why do we need him? Does he have some Harry Potter shit up his sleeve?" "No, he's not magically inclined, simply talented." The disheveled man called Walker gave no indication that he cared being talked about. He has an excellent memory and a talent for catching people in disguise. And how does that help us find a dapper gangster? Coffin's side. It was hard to tell if Bunny was trying to get on his nerves, or it honestly thought he had told her that a dapper gangster was their quarry. A doppelganger. Anyway, you know how our fingerprints are unique? Well, so is the way people walk. Every stride, every strut has its own tempo and rhythm. If Walker had seen you pass him by, he can spot you again just by watching your footwork. His changeling in particular has decided to use his gifts to swindle and steal from other people. "Well, shit," was all Bunny had to say. But how does he know which set of feet to follow? Walker doesn't inhabit the rich side of him. Neither does our doppelganger. He mentioned that he noticed a man with the same mosey, not the same face in this part of the slum. Now he has agreed to help us. You're telling me it talks? A deep voice belonging to the man Koffin's left suddenly said, "Fook you, you drunk." As Bunny began to muster for a counterattack, Walker spoke again, "That's him." Pointing to a man apparently power-walking and listening to his iPod, he always drags his feet and puts the arch side of his foot down first. "Thank you," said Koffin, handing Walker the brown bag. The man reached inside and pulled out a still-steaming Philly cheese steak sandwich. As he did this, Bunny caught up to the man who had been indicated, slipping her arm into his and resting her head on the man's shoulder and looking for all the world like an affectionate girlfriend, she whispered in his ear, "You're coming with me, you dapper f*ckin' gangster."
