Welcome to the One Life podcast with Becca White. I am your host and this is episode 15, The Gap and the Game Part 3, Winning. The past two episodes we have been discussing the gap as the space between where we are and where we want to be and the gain as the way of measuring our progress backwards against where we started. Most people have the natural tendency to live in the gap, meaning they see the limitations of themselves and others and it is much more difficult to see the progress. Living in the gap is natural, living in the gain takes practice. Today I am sharing a simple practice suggested in the book The Gap and the Gain to help train our brains to live in the gain. The practice is this, record three wins at the end of each day. That's it. A win can be anything you can measure as such throughout your day. Here's why this is such a powerful practice. Number one, whatever you pay attention to grows stronger. You will start to recognize all the ways you are winning, which is motivating and encouraging. Number two, you create meaning and value from your experiences. As you reflect on your day, you decide what is a win, which gives meaning and importance to the experiences of your day. Number three, you decide what makes you happy. What are you choosing to count as wins? This is where your priorities lie. And number four, always maximizing what you have. Choosing to find wins in even the most difficult of days is a mental discipline and will train your brain to live in the gain. The invitation today is simply this, record three wins at the end of your day starting today. You can write it in a journal or in a note or a text or a voice memo on your phone, but start adding up your wins for a few days. And it will become clear that you are doing better than you think you are. You are already winning. You were born to be a winner. We only get one life. Let's make it our best.
