Mike Moore Media. Hello and welcome to our monthly podcasts with Neville Hall, the Mayor of Eden. Mayor, good to have you back. How you doing? I'm doing great, Mike. How are you? Doing fine. We'll look at a couple of things on the agenda for the July 16th Eden City Council meeting, but first a special meeting earlier in the Wednesday a couple of days ago and some good news coming out of that. So bring us up today for those that don't know what happened in that meeting. Well we had during our regular meeting we had pretty lengthy discussion about our agreement between us and the county for some sewer sewer lines that we were proposed to extend the agreement or they made an offer to us to purchase giving us the opportunity to expand our services on the south side of the river and hopefully have some some growth out there. There's plenty of land out there that developers are interested in and they want to have sewer on that side so they can tie in and do more dense development and so we met about it, talked about it in the regular meeting. There were a lot of questions that were unanswered and so a council member and staff met with went to work and that was county people and got our questions and concerns answered and so we called a special meeting on Wednesday to just go ahead and and wrap up that agreement. So we have done that and now we have it it'll be a while but the state's going to pay the board into the river to give us an opportunity to expand to the south. That's exciting to me because I'm in favor of trying to increase our population so sure we have that opportunity towards to the south now. Yeah so you're looking at going down 14 south basically is where you're talking about and and and tell us that the numbers involved in that because that's kind of interesting to see what what's involved in the cost. Well the the county had already received the grant to there's a pump station there on parents in highway that needs to be replaced and the county had a grant for that and the total equipment value has been valued at about three million three point two million I think. Well right at three million and the city the city's cost will be about eight eight hundred thousand or less up to eight hundred thousand hopefully less. We'll continue to negotiate with county and I hope they'll give us the best deal they can and then we'll have about three million dollars worth of worth of services equipment that won't cost us nearly that much. I'm excited about the deal and hopefully we can continue to work with the county and the county commissioners and make them even better do. Sure yeah sounds like a pretty good deal already yeah all right well it's an opportunity to grow then I mean it's not something that you know you're gonna sell benefit from today but 15 years from now that that could be a huge thing for our whoever's the mayor in council then they'll have some more customers. Yeah yeah and and you're looking at probably going south how far do you have a you know mileage or anything like that in mind? No not really I mean I've got our sugar limits and the ETJ are already drawn and we don't have the ability to expand unless somebody asks you can't involuntarily annex anymore so they have to request to be annexed so it depends on you know they're further up to the tank in highway and wanted to become part of the city we'd have the option to accept them or not. Yeah you know towns are sewer if we accept them and then what you got to think about is it worth it for you know four houses to send a garbage truck out there it's got to be a significant development to make it make sense. Sure yeah and you know I think it's interesting that when when I hear you say that you know 15 years from now but you look at you know Eden is really not that old formed in 1967 but I know I moved here in 72 and you know Kings Highway was two lanes and you look at all of the progress and the people that have made things happen and and you're in a position as mayor and you're bored and you know and other municipalities around the county I think it's just exciting I'm thinking of you know some people in the western part of the county visionaries like I won't start naming names here but but people that were in place 40-50 years ago with infrastructure and plans and and all of that and and now you know all of that's coming to fruition and you know progress moves on but it all had to start years back. Yeah it's uh you have to be concerned about the future more so than yourself because the drawing pains hurt but that's that's where you continue to move forward. I mean just for example we had a NCDOT had a roundabout meeting about the proposed traffic circle of Washington and the bridge and yeah moving all that and had a meeting here at council chamber the other night on Thursday and they said 10-15 people up here to answer questions and no doubt during the construction it's going to be a disaster it's going to be a problem for people trying to get through through that area during the construction but you got to figure you got to be looking at what's ahead of that and when it gets finished it's going to be a very nice very smooth great looking intersection that we'll be proud of for the next 50-60 years you know I'm excited about going through the the process of making it better and I think that's where we're headed with that intersection and I think the people who came out and asked questions for the most part left satisfied that it's the right thing to do. Yeah do you have a timeline on that I didn't get to go to that meeting did they give any indication of that? At the beginning of 25. 25. Yeah it was six months away from it from they got a move a lot of utilities and no buildings are being disturbed so just moving some telephone poles and water lines and things that it's going to be a nice intersection they timed up all of them their engineers have been here months working on the timing of the lights around it and they they're excited so they do this for a living I trust them and I think it's going to be a great great improvement to our uptown area. Sure yeah and that's just such an important intersection there with all of those roads coming together as you come into the the uptown eaten area I mean that's just think how that's and I've seen the maps and Ken has done a good job Ken White in getting all of that information out DLT and all that so just to to think how that's going to look and what a nice that's just going to enhance that whole area isn't it? I think so and I think that well there's a reason they're building around about all over the country they work yeah and you know they keep traffic flowing and I talked with I was with Representative Purdle the other day and Chief Greg Light Council Member Light at the same time and we were talking about it and we were at that meeting actually both of them are former police chiefs and they said you know we've never worked a fatality at around about yeah okay yeah are you that's raising enough to put one in yeah all right yeah so so about six months away and yeah yeah yeah people have concerns that is going to be you know an issue there for trying to get around that area and detours and everything else but you know we got to got to do that to get to the on the other side of it so to speak yeah yeah okay all right all right well you've given us some really positive news here right at the start of the podcast here and I know I'm looking at the agenda from this month's meeting you had a couple of special recognitions special olympics and yeah Powell auto sales 30 years in business 30 years yeah Don and AJ were there and it's great to have them there as I guess and recognize 30 years in business and we're always proud of people that are that have been here in stake here and you know we were glad to have them there and like you mentioned the special Olympics we had the volleyball team there won the bronze and they were excited I presented each of them with the proclamation and it was just exciting for them and us and so we yeah that was a good way to start the meeting up sure yeah anything else in that meeting you need an invention well not much I mean you know we've spent a lot of time on the on the sewer agreement that the majority of the meeting but yeah other than that I think it was normal meeting yeah I can close them a streak that sun opens and you know that kind of thing I'll just all the adjoining property owners are in favor of yeah okay all right well I know you always like to mention maybe some upcoming events and things like that anything on the calendar we need to uh get ready for uh this Saturday that's the music conclusion at Freedom Park right yeah that's right yeah I've been promoting that on our community calendar here for weeks so yeah that's and the weather the finally the rain is over so that that'll be fun fun time to get Freedom Park yeah and then we had to reschedule the uptown the movie on Monroe Street a couple weeks ago for weather and it's been rescheduled to Friday August 2nd at six o'clock and it's gonna coincide with the cruising that on Henry Street oh yeah the cruising cars and movie grief so that's a good coincidence and a good that's a good that's a good mix yeah it is so that that'll be on on Henry Street towards the old-fashioned property and then the groaning gathers August 8th and it's sold out again so yeah so it then used to be a popular event so we'll go ahead and have that and then probably before we talk again there there will be a uh that touch of truck that's very popular oh yeah on August 17th on Henry Street so uh the kids would have to come for that and that's uh from 10 in the morning to the war and you know that's kids get to climb up in the truck and pull the horns and filings and fun things can end and it's been a good a good event for us sure you need to put on yeah and uh i'm glad you mentioned all of that and uh we can go to explore Eden NC on Facebook and Cindy Adams has all of those events listed and upcoming things as well and uh she's already licking ahead to Riverfest and hometown gal Tamatha Brown coming back um for a meet and greet so that's going to be one of the highlights of Riverfest in mid-September absolutely Tabitha is quite popular worldwide and we have we're fortunate that she uh appreciates and mentions her hometown whatever she gets the chance that's exactly right we're excited to have her back yeah yeah i was uh this is not a city event but uh it's going to cause some excitement and i know uh Cindy Adams and Connie at comma quasi MMA in fitness i was meeting with Connie yesterday as a matter of fact and getting ready for a first in Eden that's ultimate battlegrounds coming up in November at Eden Venture Business Park but we'll be you'll be hearing more about that we'll be talking about that more as it comes together but uh so yeah that's going to be um first-time event in Eden that will um bring a lot of people to our city with eating and um lodging and all of that too so one of those good events yeah it'll be fine are you going to be the undercard or the main event uh you know we're negotiating now we're in uh contract talks so yeah we'll see probably we'll have to move it to a stadium if you're in if you're the main event i will not be the main event i can tell you there depending on your opponent yeah that's that's true that's true that sounds like uh uh where the mayor needs to step up and
