Welcome to July 26 on the National Day calendar. Today we're celebrating family connections and a beloved breakfast staple. National In Uncle's Day is a special time to honor those wonderful relatives who added so much joy to our lives. But did you know that historically, aunts and uncles have played significant roles beyond just family gatherings. In many ancient cultures, there were often the secondary caregivers for children stepping in as protectors and mentors. In some native tribes, uncles were responsible for educating their nephews and aunts played key roles in the upbringing of their nieces. So next time you hug your aunt or uncle, remember, they're a part of a tradition that dates back centuries. Do you have a favorite aunt or uncle story? I have too many on our uncle's story. That's great, isn't it? It's amazing. Like my family, I come from a big family. So they believed it takes a village to raise a kid. So there's been so many times where I've been at my aunt and uncles houses throughout the entire summer. That's pretty cool. Switching gears is something delicious. It's National Bagel Fest Day. This day celebrates the humble bagel, a bread with a history as rich as its flavor. Bagels originally came from the Jewish communities of Poland in the 17th century. But here's the twist. The first bagels were given as gifts to women in childbirth because their round shapes symbolized the circle of life. Fast forward in 1986, bagel fest was founded in Matt and Illinois by a Murray Lender of Flanders Bagels. This festival brought people together to celebrate this chewy delight, turning a simple food item into a symbol of community and joy. So whether you like them playing with cream cheese or stuff with your favorite fillings, enjoy a bagel today and think about its journey through history. Okay, so I love bagels. Me too. But during childbirth, I don't want a bagel. I mean, if you're going to give me something round, make it a donut or some jewelry maybe. I don't know. It does seem like an unusual gift, isn't it? It does. But aren't you a bagel lover? I am. Toasted with peanut butter is my favorite. How about you? I'm a cream cheese girl. Or make a sandwich out of it. All good stuff. I'm Lookaway Johnson. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. Until next time, you've celebrating. Now I want a bagel for breakfast. Let's see who's celebrating. On the birthday club, wrapping up the week with Friday and Saturday birthdays. Let's see for the 26th Dory Coleman in Eden and Wayne Griffin in Stokesdale. Dory Coleman Wayne Griffin today. And for the 27th, Daniel Boone at Boone and Cook Funeral Home, Larry Turner and Haley Stoughton. All righty. Haley Stoughton, Daniel Boone and Larry Turner all for the 27th. Happy birthday to you. I'm going to grab all the names going back to Sunday, the 21st through tomorrow. So seven days of birthdays with our weekly shuffle and our weekly winner. Yes, we do this on Friday from all of the names for the week, been a pretty good week. Let's see. Oh, Sandy Williams. This was yesterday. Yep, 25th. Sandy Williams in Eden wins this week on the birthday club giveaways from these Eden businesses, that little pork shop, head to toe, Wendy's, divine nutrition, Vernon, family, dairy, dominoes, lavenders, blue, home and body boutique, and Carolina fuels, inguards, cupcakes and confections taking some time off for the summer on the birthday club, they'll be back in September. Okay, now let's check on some big name birthdays, and I've got something really special on our music spotlight today, but big name birthdays for Sandra Bullock, 60, Mick Jagger, 81, Kevin Spacey, 65, Helen Mirren, 79, Dorothy Hamill, 68. All right, today's music spotlight, and I'm going back. We're getting really personal here on this today, folks, to July, Saturday, July 2nd, 1960, to be exact, my first radio program on WSAT in Salisbury. I had just celebrated my 13th birthday. I was 12 when my mother took me to the station to see the general manager, Harry Welch, many, many times to convince him to be on the radio, and I finally wore him down. So back to 64 years ago, this month, and here is my theme song. Oh boy, you're going to love this from those early days. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh boy, wasn't that a snappy little tune? You won't hear that anywhere else today, but if you need to find that somewhere, that is from Rogers and Hart's pal Joy, Bill Seymour, and his orchestra. Wonder whatever happened to Bill Seymour in the orchestra. That was rocket around, and actually some pretty good songs came from that. "The Lady is a Tramp," "Bewitched," "My Funny Valentine." I could write a book. I didn't know what time it was. There's a small hotel. Yeah, so some good stuff came from pal Joy, apparently, but that is my theme song from those early days in radio. I have no idea where this album came from, but I've saved it all these years and wanted to share that with you today. I don't think I know I haven't played that in all my years and radio since, so that's a first right here today. An important part of my broadcasting career, and aren't we lucky? It was only two minutes long, too. Okay, now today's motivational moment thanks to Livingstone Wealth Management, Raymond James and Madison. Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day, and that's our program for the week, and I want to thank you friends for listening. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I remind you, as always, be sure to count your blessings today. [BLANK_AUDIO]
