Mike Moore media. Hello and welcome to our monthly theater guild of Rockingham County podcast. I'm talking with Christopher Wood, season 36 about to begin Christopher. Lots of excitement. Absolutely and all that we actually did begin on Monday when our summer camp started. That's technically the beginning of our season since our year starts in July. Okay so it's already underway so bring us up to date on the summer camp and some other things coming up. So how's that going? Absolutely. So the camp's off to a great start. We've got 32 camper actors. We have a staff of 13. Many of them it's not all of them. Rockingham County students that have returned you know during their summer break to help with this. They're working on Disney's Beauty and the Beast Junior which is going to be a fantastic show. Performances will actually have a deep performance will be at the end of camp on August 2nd at six o'clock that night. Tickets will go on sale Monday. We'll give the parents of those kids times to get their seats before we release the seats to the public. Did all this is happening at RCC at the Advanced Technology Building like usual. That's great. So summer camp underway as she said launching the 36th season for community theater here in Rockingham County. All right now tell us about some other events coming up that we need to take notes and get on our calendar. Absolutely. So we always officially end the season and start the next season at the same time. August 24th this year at Rockingham County College we will have the our annual meeting which is where the members for this next season come together vote on any business and things like that have a dinner and then after that we go to the auditorium for the Golden Guild Awards where we celebrate the season we just ended. That's kind of like the Tony's but not quite as fancy. Mm-hmm and best actor best child actor that kind of stuff those awards are all given out. That is open to the public and usually a lot of fun. Mm-hmm. Okay and that's at Rockingham Community College. Yes. Okay very good. So the Golden Guild Awards celebrating this past season and you said that that really kind of takes a look back at the performances and the the actors and the people that made it happen doesn't it? It does. It's a great way to celebrate everything that we we just accomplished. We'll also have mentioned the reports about the shows that are coming up and what to expect in the following season. So it's really a great way to kind of encapsulate the past and look to the future. Mm-hmm. Okay well I'm excited to to read more about and I want you to tell us more about Broadway Cabaret. Oh this sounds great. Yeah so we've done a version of this a few different times we've called it different things night of Broadway etc. Basically we want local talent to send in their video edition of them performing, singing, dancing to their favorite Broadway style event. So it can be acting out of scene, it can be a monologue, it can be playing instrument to a well-known song. Obviously singing the song, a single duet, whatever. Dance troops in the area are encouraged to come if they have a performance they've done to a musical as well. So it's just a whole lot of fun. It's going to be we're still trying to nail down the locations. As you know most of our performances all of our performances are done at the local schools and being summer and people on vacation it's kind of hard to nail down official dates and times and places. So we know that the Cabaret is going to be September 22nd so Sunday. It's going to be around 2.30 in the afternoon. Video auditions are due by August 30th. We'll be posting the link soon to where to send those and just not sure exactly where it's going to be. Okay well we'll put that down for sure and we'll fill in the date the location later. We got the date September 22nd at 2.30. Okay well this sounds like that's kind of wide open for anyone who wants to participate. It is. It is completely wide open. You don't even have to be in Rockingham County if you're in surrounding counties and want to come and perform. As always we encourage everyone who is interested in anything we're doing to come out and be involved whether it be on stage, help backstage, volunteer, donate, money, time, etc. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to be part of the guild any time. Sure yeah there are lots of opportunities to to get involved that's for sure. On the stage behind the stage behind the scenes and all of that and we'll talk about sponsorship opportunities before we finish up here a little bit too but tell us about descendants. Right so our first official play of the season is going to be descendants it's those who don't know it's a Disney production basically the children of all the heroes and villains that we grew up with they're now in high school and the children of the evil parents get to come to the good school and we have to society and we get they get to figure out what who's going to be good who's going to be evil will love triumph all of that so it's going to be a fantastic it's a musical it's going to be their adults and children positions although a whole lot of them obviously visit being in high school will be a student so we're looking forward to that. Maddie Barham who is the drama teacher at Rockin County High School will be directing that she's also currently you are running the camp as our camp director so hopefully some of the students that she has at camp we're going to we'll see again at descendants hopefully we'll have some new people as well that's going to be an early production for us it's going to actually hit the stage October 4th through 6 mm-hmm so auditions are going to be coming up this coming month August 16th and 17th again nailing down those official locations and that will be announced as soon as we can we confirm but that's going to be coming up you know really auditions are going to be in a couple of weeks and then we have the golden gills and then a month later we have night of Broadway and then a couple weeks later we have descendants we're going to be a very hectic start to the season we're going to really get around running sounds like yeah yeah we're looking forward to it where we've labeled this season theme as unstoppable because in each each of our productions there are people or forces that are just unstoppable for example we have been to be junior that the idea of love conquering all for example and so that is our season and we're gonna we're hitting the ground running because if you're gonna be unstoppable you really need some momentum that's exactly right okay well sounds like you're you're off to a great start for sure this is the 36th season for community theater here in Rockingham County now tell us about the the new venue the new video podcasts that you'll be doing part of your YouTube channel coming up mid August as well yeah so we're gonna launch that this year we've had a YouTube channel and there are some old clips on there from things we've done in the past and and and advertisements we put together and little video clips from former shows but we want to do something a little bit more and current so we're gonna start doing a video podcast every few months first one's gonna be August 15th as you mentioned we're partnering with obviously might more media we're also partnering with the Rockingham County Arts Council they have a facility they're gonna let us use for that so very much looking forward to that instead it'll be not just my voice you'll get to to hope with the other people in the guild and and get a different perspective on who we are and what we do okay that'd be fun so that's kind of a fresh approach to some things and that we haven't done you haven't done before with the theater guild of Rockingham County all right so that launches mid August as well oh my goodness unstoppable I think I think that's a good theme for the year it sounds like now if someone is listening and they'd like to get involved there's so many different ways to do that sponsorship opportunities things like that tell us how we can get involved in the theater guild absolutely so we we really want to as a community theater we work with the community and we want them to work with us so anyone and everyone is is encouraged to come work with us you mentioned sponsorships local businesses regional businesses that want to support the arts we value those relationships we've been those resources go a long way towards helping us do everything we need to do without that membership members get to come to the membership meeting I mentioned earlier and vote on field business they get to cast the votes in the Golden Guild those are those are done by my members and people also get some tickets for the season things like that we need staff for our shows choreographers music directors people who can do costuming and props like there's always always a need there and of course we need volunteers we need actors who want to be on stage we need people who are interested in tech tech who want to learn how to do sound and lights and and that kind of stuff there's a whole lot that goes on behind the scenes that really makes the magic happen so we need volunteers for that too and all this is on our website go to the website and and find where to you know how to reach out to us and some of the different positions that we offer okay yep lots of ways to use your talent and be involved in the theater guild Rockingham County TGRC-NC.com your place to create cultivate and collaborate what's the the best way to to get in touch with you if someone you're looking to do okay yeah we can use you and I know you only making some changes to your website and some other things as well yeah so we're working on a redesign of the site just something to make it a little fresher and you know cleaner and updated some of our information there needs to be be updated as always an ongoing process so between now and annual meeting there should be quite a few changes into the site and the look of it hopefully by our video podcast time okay great again the annual meeting and the golden guild awards that is scheduled for August 24th at Rockingham Community College we've got a couple of minutes left anything else we need to mention Christopher just wanted to make sure everyone knows everything we're doing this season so we've always talked about summer camp and the cabaret and descendant we also have a piece of my heart which is a drama about five women before during and after Vietnam more and that's gonna be actually the weekend after Veterans Day I believe it's November 15th that weekend and then in March we have Akila and the B which will be which is about a young young lady who really loves the power of words and spelling and he ends up in a national spelling bee and everyone kind of in our community rallies around her as she overcomes the obstacles that are in front of her and then the end of the season we have not announced our show yet we are literally waiting for an email back to confirm everything is good to go and clues will be put out starting Monday on exactly what that show is going to our social media Facebook and Instagram because we'll be letting everyone know exactly how we're planning to wrap up this unstoppable season yeah all right yeah I love those clues that you put up to all right lots of ways to
