Helped by Amanda Match Performance by Captain Ronan Buckley, this try got the better of defending Champions Cordell in the Aquila Club, Glinny Glottal Group sponsored, Father Gavin Cobb final, Fedefis Charles Stadium this evening. The victors were well on top of the early stages, with Buckley, Carlo Dunhill, and Aaron Ocea prominent. Connor back clean, Fleming even got forward to kick a fine point. Ryan Dunney got a nice score for Cordell, but they still faced in eight points to two deficit halfway through the period. It was from here that the Cordell half-act line led their response. Find some Captain Sean O'Connell, plus two from Brian Reedy, have them reduced to deficit to just four. Then Philip O'Connor brilliantly closed the low kickouts before setting up Keanu Dunhill for another fine point. This tries only response during this period of Cordell dominance came when Anthony Kennedy's high ball was caught by Patrick Odenhu who fired over from close range. By half time Listeri held a three-point lead, though they probably felt they should have been more ahead given their quick start. Buckley again got them after a flier to start a second half with two fine points, the second one coming after a strong run that finished with a fisted effort. O'Connor didn't reply with two as on, the second one a brilliant free kick from near the sideline. Then, just as it looked like, the game would be evenly bancilyened, a .45 from Buckley was punched first in the net by his midfield partner Jimmy O'Leary, a game deciding goal. There didn't follow the period of kickball from Listeri which ended with O'Shea splitting the pulse. He didn't go over another beauty, would he do me a ham-pass to create the space to split the pulse. O'Connor struck two more, over two more frees, but another Buckley .45, close to Jack Walsh Pines saw Listeri to victory. A tough evening for Cordu, who despite trying very hard, couldn't recover from their slow start. They must now regroup before starting their junior club championship campaign next weekend. For Listeri, this will give them great confidence going into the Premier Junior Championship where there will be one of the favourites to progress. look to both teams and their respective campaigns. Thanks for listening, good luck.
