Yeah, hello everyone, welcome along to Sports HQ. This Saturday, Julian King with you for a little bit of while since you've kept each other company, but I'm delighted to be back because as you know, it's your destination for your weekend sporting fix. We'll keep you updated on everything going on. There's a small matter of the Olympic Games, which officially got underway in the early hours of this morning. And of course, a stack of fun in the process. Thank you to the Saturday Crunchtide team for the lead. Did you miss me? Satsy. Did you miss me, boys? It was good doing it last week. As always, I need your feedback to make this show great. Again, the open line number 1-300-01-1170, 1-300-01-1170 and the text 9-0-457-736736. And of course, Saturday, in case you've forgotten, Saturday is the day that I need you three sporting tips for the weekend. So, you know, it could be detailed, could be really simple. You might just go head to head on the nose. You might say, "I expect this person to be the third tri-scorer in the game in the first half." Something like that. It's up to you. It could be one sport, two sports, three sports. It doesn't matter. Let me know. Hit me up on the text line 0-4-5-7, 7-3-6, 7-3-6. I want you three sporting tips, three sporting predictions. How are things going to play out for the remainder of Saturday and for all of Sunday? We can even bleed it into Sunday morning. Who am I today as well? We'll do that in the next hour of the program. And all I'll say is this, because I have officially caught Olympic fever, it will have an Olympic theme today. Normally, I do like a blast from the past in the world of rugby league, but probably for the next couple of weeks, it's all going to be about the games, isn't it? Surely. I will also catch up with Mike Millwood. He's a good man, Mike, and one of the best analytical rugby league riders going around. He used to be with the Raw, big fan of his work, and now riding for Love Rugby League.com, which is a massive, it's actually a UK-based publication. Nobody still has died. He gets his weekends back, by and large, but still gets to regale us with his input on rugby league. So I'll have a good extended chat with him. In the next hour of the program, we'll talk maybe a bit of Olympic games, rugby league crossover. And further to that, this tightening finals race in the NRL at the moment, it's fascinating, fascinating. I'll catch up with him, as I said, just after three o'clock Eastern Standard Time. Mitch is on the tools with me this other. Hello, Mitchie. Hello, mate. Lovely to be here with you again. It's been a few weeks. It has been a few weeks. It's so disappointing because we had pretty good weather, certainly in Old Sydney Town this week. And the weather in Queensland has been good, too. Yeah. Then you wake up this morning, the sound of thunder, you see the lightning, and you know when you have the lightning, and then you count until the thunder. And if you get to 10, you know, it's far, the storm's far away, but you've got to get the three. You know, this is right upon us. That was it. It looked like end of days this morning. We've got about seven because my daughter's soccer game starts at eight. My son's at 10 o'clock today. She goes, "Dad, is it still nighttime?" I said, "No, it's 730 in the morning." And now it's cleared up loose guys, but it was raining. It was horrible. And then, sure enough, the notifications come through that our opposition team had forfeited because I think a lot of the parents are saying, "I'm going to take my kid out in these." So they forfeited. Later on, the notification came through that second game that my son was playing. You know, the nights, you know, it was about it as well because they'd called it a wash out and shut the grounds. Okay. Well, the first one. That's a win. That's a win. Well, it isn't. It isn't. Right. In fact, it's not a win. I'll tell you why, because I wrapped up the "I'm not a league show last night." That goes for the midnight. So I don't get a lot of sleep because by the time I get home and then you hit the hay and you've got to get up early, I might get six hours. And what do you need? About eight hours a night. Yeah. So I might get six hours. That notification, a forfeit, a wash out had come through it, you know, like six. I would have checked it. Okay. Cool. I'd just gone back to sleep. But it didn't come through until about 10 to 8, about 10 minutes before the match. And we were up and we'd fed the kids and got them dressed because you never know. You might have to bolt out the door, sir. That's it. Well, I'm up now. I'm up now. So that's not, not you, well, yeah, not real, just get to talk to, get to talk to you, my friend and all the lovely listeners of the SC and family. So thank you, Mitch, tops of 20 cloudy and sitting today, showers, as I said, Saturday sport once again called off. I can tell you having ducked out this morning feels much colder than 20. I can assure you. I thought we were in downtown Melbourne because there were that many puffer jackets out. As for Brisbane, Vegas. So to our friends listening on SC and Q693 and SC and 1620 on the Gold Coast, a bit nicer there. So Brisbane, mostly sunny 23, a cracking game coming up this afternoon at three o'clock, the Broncos and the Bulldogs. And on the Goldie 24, partly cloudy. As I said, that text slide number 045773676, let's wrap up all the overnight schools, look ahead to the remainder of the respective sporting rounds in the respective sporting coast. So we'll start with the Annarel. Last night, the Warriors over the Tiger's 28 points to 16, they kept their rather slender finals hopes alive and it's weird. I don't know if you heard Benji Marshall's press conference, but basically said, announced it during the game. This release about half time during the game. So yeah, John Bateman, released him for the rest of the year and the rest of his contract. Thank you for your services. He's off to England. And that was it. And this, of course, off the back of these reports of a spat between Bateman and Marshall and senior management there in the West Tigers, but he had another two years to run and what, 675,000 if some reports had been believed, which I think you had to, you had to get him off your books. Donnie Bateman. Storm, 32 wheels, 14, it's a score line that probably flattered Melbourne a little bit Neils. You know, they were in the tussle with a good part of the first half and unfortunately for them, every time they turned the ball over, Melbourne managed to score, which isn't always the way. So they had a bit of, they rode their luck a little bit this storm, but too much class at the end. But the big talking point was the reemergence and the comeback of Cam Munster. He played about 50 odd minutes, Cam Munster was OK, didn't set the world on fire, it was Craig Bellamy said afterwards, all really, it was just about him, you know, getting the miles back in the legs, retrieving his match fitness. And he did say after it's Cam Munster, he said, hey, I was, I was gassed, I forgot how fast this game was. But it was nice. It was really nice to see Cam Munster and you want to see the best players back on the park, don't you? Bronco's Bulldogs, three o'clock today, before we get to the rest of our, let's just go through the late mail. So Corey Oates has joined the interchange bench in a swap with Tyson Smoothie. This match getting underway in just under an hour's time. Reese Walsh, he missed the captain's run as he would have seen during the week because of illness. Kevin Walters said, you know what, he's right to play. Corey Oates was originally dropped to make way for the return of Selwood Cobbo from a groin injury. Kobe Hetherington moved to the starting side of the place at Britain Pitkora, who's listed amongst the reserves. Blake Moser, the new man on the bench and Tyson Smoothie, is the 18th man. Stephen Kreit, this is a big out, isn't it? The Bulldogs, which is the main reason I've tipped the Bronco's. He's been replaced in the centers by Jarrell Skeleton, the late change for the visitors, Lippoy Hopoy joins the bench in place of Chris Petolo. Drew Hutchinson's return from a hammy has been delayed as he dropped off the bench on Friday. Hayes Perum is the 18th man. So Jarrell Skeleton joins the back line in place of Stephen Kreit, otherwise he'll listed as per program. More or less, but Corey Oates on the bench and Tyson Smoothie, the 18th man. Grant Atkins is the match referee, and Wyatt Reiman, who's a really good up and coming referee. This man, Wyatt Reiman, is the man in charge of the bunker today. Following that, the Cowboys and the Sharks, he's some really big games in the context of the eight here. Bronco's, Bulldogs, three o'clock. Cowboys and the Sharks, Queensland, Countryback Stadium. Now, let's not forget the cows, so the cows have four of their last six games at home, and they've still got the bite of cash. Their best, they're very good, they're worse, they're not so good at the Cowboys and the Sharks. So that gave 5.30pm. This will be a great test for the Sharks too. It's hard to get a gauge on how much you can call that a return to four, because the Tigers aren't exactly yardstick of quality football at the moment. So they put 50 on them, yes, but does that completely erase the losing streak prior to that for Canola? The Roosters and the Seagulls, massive game, 7.35pm. The Roosters, how do they bounce back up to having to lick their wounds? They've given a bit of a lesson about the storm last week, a bit of a reality check. Manly looked really impressive, and this is a side that plays some nice expansive football, and with a bloke called Teacher Boy, which in their team, and if everyone's fully fit, and I know they don't have A la Kawatu, but the Roosters are still a week away before getting Joey Marni back. This is a great test for Manly, a great test for Manly, to see where they stand. There's still a chance at the top four too, the Eagles. So that match Allian Stadium tonight, 7.35pm. Then tomorrow, the Dragons and the Panthers, Tyrell's slown by the way. The reports during the week that eyes got a hamstring injury may miss the game, and as a result, Matt Fina might be the man to deputise it full back. No, he was dropped Tyrell's slown because he was named in the Dragons New South Wales Cup team who have lost 30 points to 24 to the Panthers. Pretty entertaining game, and he scored two in the 46th mid Tyrell's slown, six tries to four New South Wales Cup as you go around the grounds, the Panthers 34 defeated the Dragons 20. So he's dropped Tyrell's slown, 4.05pm tomorrow, all Queensland affair, the Dolphins and the Titans. This is not going to be a pushover game for the Dolphins, and it wouldn't be surprised if Gold Coast win. And then the two teams who are still a mathematical chance of making it. The Raiders and the Rabbidos, the Raiders and the Rabbidos, you don't bet he won't be able to have him given up hope, it's going to be tough, of course, with no Glutrell Mitchell. And I think Cam Murray's missing this at the second week, he's missing our cap. So Raiders and the Rabbidos, the two R's, the 6.15pm game tomorrow. Of course, the NRLW season has gone underway, round number one, I was pretty impressed with Newcastle's defence, they defeated the Rooster's Thursday at 12 points to 10, full time today, the Sharks 14-0 over the Cowboys, and this game currently taking place between the Eels and the Broncos, 61 minutes gone, 20 points to 10, 20 points to 10, parameter lead the Broncos. He'll keep you updated throughout the course of the afternoon, there's a stack of rugby lead going on. And of course, the AFL, so speaking of the AFL, this game currently taking place, the bounce was 145 between North Melbourne and Jelongen, the North Melbourne Kangaroos have been the pushovers of the last few years. The last month or so, shown a real turnaround in form, they're currently leading the Cats 3-1-19, the 2-3-15, so the Kangaroos currently lead the Cats 3-1-19 to 2-3-15, and that is midway through the first quarter, having a look at the rest of the AFL fixtures for this round. Last night, there's a good cover behind Vic Grebe by Port Adelaide to knock off Carlton, and I think they're now alongside Carlton, maybe joint second if I'm not mistaken on the AFL ladder. They defeated them 79-265, the game that you hear after this show today, 4.35pm bounce at Kilda and the Bombers, all Queensland affair as well, 4.35pm Gold Coast in Brisbane, and then tonight we've got the Melbourne Demons and the GWS Giants, and later on the Derby, as they call it, over in the west, the Derby, Free-O, and West Coast. Tomorrow calling with Richmond to a bottom of the table at the moment, the Tigers, Sydney and the Bulldogs, there's a good game of 43-20 bounce, tomorrow Sydney, and then Adelaide take on Hawthorne. Form of the one practice, 3-Lando, Nora showed pretty impressive pace to top the times, that was in, sorry, practice two, I should say, practice three tonight, just prior to Qualley's. This is at the Belgian Grand Prix or Spa, it was two tenths quicker than McLaren teammate Oscar Piastry. It wasn't that great to see Oscar get his breakthrough win in the Hungarian ring, isn't it funny? Oh, a little bit of one racing, love it, but they are very Anglo-centric, the Comatric team in Lando won, and they were gushing over Lando, Nora said, "Well, hang on, how do you few races later?" Oscar Piastry won as well, so they both won one race each, and Oscar's any second season. The thing about that, Lando didn't want to give up his place, until his credit, Lando said afterwards I may be a bit too petulant at the time, but they gave him the undercut, which they shouldn't have, because Oscar was leading beat him off the line. It was absolutely fair that Oscar won that race. As forecast and rain fail to strike, the team's making the most of a dry spa track to crack on with the preps of qualifying in the race, so Max Verstappen, now got a bit cranky last time out, has a ten-place grid penalty for Sunday's race after fitting a fifth internal combustion engine, continued his superb pace from FP1, leading time on the medium tyres in the early running, the McLaren's just got a really good all-round car at the moment, so Oscar Piastry's second-quickest, and while we're at Aussie Watch Daniel Riccardo, finished P14, so 14th in practice two in the V-Carpe, qualifying kicks off at midnight tonight, 24/5/7/7/3/6/7/3/6 Olympic Games, did you catch any of the opening ceremony, and I did learn years ago, I knew it anyway, but when I first started a radio, I worked mid-dorns and paneled the late-grate Frank Crook over at the McCory radio network, he was a good man, Frank, and they rest in peace, and he wouldn't let it go, because what is this business about ceremony, this was not long after the Beijing Games, you know, and they talk about this, the newsreader, who's ceremony, I know Sarah, I don't know, last name is Mo, he got on and on, the word is ceremony, and it's always stuck with me, so there you go, Frank, to be proud of me today, did you watch any of the opening ceremony, I caught a bit, and I've gone back and looked at some of the highlights, it rained, that didn't dampen proceedings, it was quite the spectacular backdrop, wasn't it, whatever you think of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, a light, looks amazing, Jess Fox, Eddie Ockenden, the Aussie flagbearers, the flag proudly, as they should, but I must say, you know, I don't want to get the Republic debate here, but the Aussie flag on the international stage, it just, it looks so rubbish, doesn't it, it does not stand out, as John Kleece called it, Great Britain by night, this is big ugly Union Jack, taking up 25% of the inside, but all in all, I mean the whole thing was very French, the opening ceremony, you know, it was cliched, it was quirky, it was cultured, it was splendid, and the thing about the French, you know, it's all pop and pageantry, it was, it was shamelessly unapologetic, wasn't it, we are French, we don't care, we're French, we'll just do it our way, which you've got to kind of respect in a sense, don't you, so you had the, the Moulin Rouge Cabaret Dances, you had this headless Marie Antoinette, the backdrop of a heavy metal band, which was kind of a nice touch, you had a really haunting phantom of the opera, you know, you had Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, and they had this rebuilding of the burnt out Notre Dame, a lot of Parisian fashion, a lot of multicultural faces, a bit of house music as well, Duf Dauff, ballet dancers on the roof of the Louvre, breakdances along the keys and on the boats, and yet performers, they were dressed in handmade outfits, of course, stitched by the finest French courterias, Louis Vuitton trunk suitcases, prominently displayed, peels a man on a flaming floating piano playing John Leonard's Imagine, he did have it all, and all of a sudden this was kind of striking, you had this, this metal horse and this mysterious rider just galloping along the Senn River, and he had this cape, he was draped in his cape and it was emblazoned with the Olympic rings, and well she, she spread the spirit of friendship and solidarity around her, and invited the world to come together in her wake, gave the flag, the Olympic flag, the majestic entrance, and then it was hoisted, upside down, yeah, what is the upside end flag, I should have said like an interstress, I've forgotten a bit rusty over there, I know half mast means death, what is an upside end flag mean, I thought it means distress, if you let me know, hit me up on the text line 0457736, and then prior to that you had this, this figure wearing a black cloak and a white hood face covered by a dark fencing mask, I said who, who or what is this, and this mystery man, a woman was heavily featured in the ceremony, it was produced by director Thomas Jolly, he had appeared to some Lady Gaga, as in a denser dove, the Minions were there, just a why, I don't know, just because they can be, so they had about 3,500 performers involved in this opening ceremony, it was long, it was long, Celine Dion closed the ceremony with a stunning performance of the iconic Edith Piaf song, I should try this my best friend, Lym Alamoire, and you know she's had a well-noted health problems, Celine Dion, she didn't miss a note, did she, booming range that she has, and this was, I quite liked it, I gotta say, the Olympic flame was lit on a hot air balloon, and think about it, you cast your mind back to Barcelona 92, right, and that seemed to me as kind of the goals standard of how else can we light the flame in a cool way, me and the flaming arrow, oh imagine the pressure, like what if you miss, if they go, the French go, yeah okay, let's light it on a hot air balloon, flying high above the Parisian skyline, three and a half hours this opening ceremony was the long time, and it was legendary sprinter Marie Jose Parek of course, of course, Kathy Freeman's great rival, the one that did the mad dash to the airport, Cydney 2000, if you recall, and Judo Starr, one of the greatest Teddy Rinaire who lit the quarter, officially in all great the games, Parek, three gold medals in track and field, 92 and 96 games, Rina named Teddy Bear, they call him one of the most physically imposing athletes in French history, Teddy was the three time Olympic gold medalist in Judo, tried in 2012, 2016, as well as the 2020 games, but it wasn't just, it wasn't just any Olympic cauldron, it was a seven meter wide ring of flames, as we said, topped by a 30 meter tall hot air balloon, why? Because you can, and some of the athletes that you saw in this incredible home stretch, of course, the great Zinnid in Zidarn are the best of all time, beautifully silky footballer, famously scored two goals in that 98 World Cup final against Brazil, he then passed Zuzu, the torch to Rafael Nadal, the King of Roland Garros, he got a massive applause, Rafa, and then Rafa was then joined by Serena Williams, Emily Morezmo, the French tennis hero, was part of that chain as well, legendary gymnast Nadia Comoneci, the perfect ten, and then Olympic great Carl Lewis, they had to take the flame back down the center river, and then Tony Parker, the former basketball player, who was the first Frenchman by the way, Tony Parker had to be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame, he also had a little cameo, so it was nice to see some of the big names, it's funny, my son had his athletics, kind of what you said I was there to help out, and I was measuring the long jump, and I was making these Carl Lewis references, and these kids, you know, eight, nine, ten-year-old kids just stare at me, like who the hell is Carl Lewis, what are you talking about, and I said you've got to educate yourselves kids, especially around Olympic's time, it's nice to see Carl bearing the torch, who else is, a Snoop Dogg, Snoop Dogg was there, just sort of looked like, well, in true Snoop Dogg, fashion like one, great big doobie, didn't it, Ophel 5-7-7-3-6-7-3-6 up and running on Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon, gee, it's good to be back, now as I said, and I do this every Saturday, three sporting tips, this is what I want from you, so these are mine, I have the boomers to beat Spain in the basketball, that's at seven o'clock tonight, so on the other side of this we will, I'll tidy up some judiciary news and some injury news in the NFL, then I'll go through a comprehensive list of what was easier in action both today and tomorrow, because hey, it's the greatest sporting contest ever, isn't it, the game has only come around once every four years, so my sporting tips across the course of the weekend are as follows, number one, I've got the boomers beating Spain in the basketball, that'll be a tough, tough game, I have Turbo, Tom Treboevich, to score a meat pie against the Rooster tonight, and then our man Oscar Pastry to be on the podium at Spa, so the Belgian Grand Prix tomorrow, the McLarens look wicked quick, so those are my three sporting tips of the weekend, I've got the boomers to beat Spain in the basketball, the Olympics tonight, Tom Treboevich to score against the Rooster's and Oscar Pastry to be on the podium at Spa, let me know yours, 0457 73736, the text line number, and I'd love to hear from you throughout the course of the afternoon, we're here through to 4.30pm Australian Eastern Standard, Tom, hit me up in the open line, tell us what you're up to this fine Saturday, on 1.300 01.11.70, I'm Julian King, great to have your company on the SE Network this Saturday afternoon, you're on Sports HQ. Welcome back to the program, Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon, we've had a bit of a hiatus, I feel like Cameron Munster, just letting some of the wounds and letting some of the aches and pains heal and easing back into it, three sporting tips 0457 73736, 736, I've got the boomers to beat Spain in the basketball, Turbo to score against the Chukis and Oscar Pastry to be on the podium at Spa, Grand Keeping Rooster, hello to you my friend, three sporting tips Jules, Richter's 13+ and all that's bold, that is bold, Aussie men's 7s team to meddle, well they've got a game coming up at midnight, they're semi-final, it's a big game, and Aussie Oscar to have back-to-back wins at Spa, wouldn't that be nice, but none of this controversy about Lando giving up spots, just a, it's not about Lando, I can't warm to the bloke, Green Keeping Rooster, good luck to your Chukis night 13+, I think that's an audacious tip, but you never know, when they're on, they look like wheel beaters, but I think the gap between their best and the worst is a lot larger than the gap between say, Penra's best and worst or Belbin's best and worst, speaking of, Bonai Jack Jules, Robbo never learns, playing non-senders on the right via the storm, what's the definition of insanity, Marno never plays via the storm, Genco wasn't his fit to play, 23 coats put six tries on Huchie at right center and two games, yeah, I know you've got a bit of a towling, I remember that storm burns slow, silly, and young for five line breaks, three tries and scores, and calls Radley Sinbin in one half, RC, V turbo, until hour, get on, okay, big game though, big, big game tonight, and a trot man, hello to your trot man, great time slot for the Bronco's dog's crowd, straight after the game can head down to Albin part trots for a massive night, go and see a leap to fame, every trot man sounds like you've got the perfect Saturday Arvo, planned out, I'm a bit jealous, I'm not gonna lie, Stephen Criten's a big out, I just think Brisbane, now Brisbane make the eight, they'll scare anyone they play, I just, there's too much a stake for Brisbane, I'm tipping them at home this afternoon, I'm tipping them at home, this afternoon, so give me three sporting tips, four, five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six, what do you like for the weekend, Olympic Games, and also, you know, Olympic Games, are you into it, do you not care, what Olympic events are you really, really keen on, do you think, oh no, I just, I can't miss out on this, I cannot miss out on this, I remember missiles over there at the moment, he's doing some stuff with Matty Johns and he's there to cover the swimming and what not and doing various articles, he or in the mowers last week, gave his little multi, his five leg multi, I'll dig it up, I'll see if I can find it, but his value was Molio Callahan, I think in the 200, pretty sure he said the value was Molio in the 200, he said even though Ariana got her in the trials, Molio hadn't quite tapered then, because she's a sprinter would be different, he found it in front of me now, so he's five leg multi, the missile, Ariana tip was 400 free, Emma McKeon, 100 back, Molio 200 free, so there's value there, value there, women's four by 100, I think the final might be on five 30 tomorrow morning, I'll go through that shortly, and the women's four by 200, markets say 10 bucks for that, so Ariana tip Mr. Win the 400 free against Tadecki Tadecki, Ladecki and McIntosh, that's the race of the meat, Emma McKeon, 100 meter back stroke, Molio Callahan, 200 free, there's a value to beat Ariana, get back at title, the women's four by 100 free, women's four by 200 free, so there you go, some value tips for the Olympics, but anyway, speaking of, it's time to get into the Olympic spirit. Yeah the great John Williams, I remember being at Sydney Olympic Park in the stadium with that bellows out, it's shivers up the spine, stuff, a lot of Aussie's in action on day one, official day one, I know we've had the rugby sevens and a few other events, events that got underway before the opening ceremony, as I mentioned it was one of my tips, a 7pm tonight men's basketball Australia take on Spain, the last outing in a trial, the Aussie's pretty good, Patty Mills refound his mojo, Josh Giddy, he's looking good as well, so that seven o'clock tonight the men's, the boomers take on Spain, in the diving, this is a metal event, so this is seven o'clock tonight as well, so you have to check out the multi-channels on the nine network, women's synchronized three meter springboard final, that is a metal event, Madison Keeney, Annabelle Smith in action, also seven o'clock tonight, we've got the 100 meter butterfly heats, in the swimming, Emma McKeon and Alexandria Perkins, the women's 400 freestyle heats, Jamie Perkins, Ariard Tippmus, men's 100 meter breaststroke heats, Sam Williamson and Josh Young featuring in that, the 400 meter freestyle heats, men's Sam Short, watch out for Sam Short too, did I see megan nay former Australians where she reckons Sam Short's going to have a massive meet, Elijah Winnington involved in the 400 freer as well, then you've got the women's four by 100 freestyle relay heats, and the men's four by 100 freestyle relay heats, so the swimming all kicking off at about seven o'clock tonight, in the hockey Australia and Argentina, so the cucobaro's take on Argentina, always a strong opponent, 9.15 p.m. tonight, all times east and the standard time, the road cycling, this is a metal event as well, Grace Brown, the Australian in action, the women's individual time trial, and then the canoe slalom, 11.50 p.m. this is the women's kayak single heats, with the flag bearer, the first run for Jessica Fox, so we do have stacks going on a day, one of the games I was the athletes and teams competing in 19 sports, and as mentioned, events where medals are decided in six of those sports, so equestrian as well, if you like your equestrian shame, Andrew Hoyt could make the team, the equestrian inventing team with the dress yards, that's at 5.30 p.m. this afternoon, that'll be the first of the Aussies in action. As you know, Australia have a proud history in this event, so you think about Shane Rose, Kevin McNabb, Chris Burton, all now looking for that elusive Olympic gold in the tennis. The Aussie tennis play team, they've got a tough test at Paris 2024, first run opponents include world number two ranked players Novak, Djokovic, and Coco Gough. Maddie Emtem has got to line up against the Joker after replacing Holger Roon, who withdrew from singles due to wrist injury, A wrist injury. Ayla Tom Lanovich is going to fly the Aussie flag in the women's singles draw, she faces Coco Gough, this is on the clay court at Roland Gatals. In the beach volleyball, there's going to be, well have you seen this this beach volleyball court, if you call it a court. Shorter creates some of the most visually spectacular Olympic moments and play begins in the shadows of Paris's iconic Eiffel Tower. Eiffel Tower. Thank you. Well, we can fade that music down now. I didn't think it was that long that I sent. There you go. As much as I loved John Williams, quite a bit of Star Wars in the next town. Good on you, Mitchie. To get to Lequa Clancy and Mariao for Artatro, the Olympic silver medalist's aim to go one better in Paris, they're also seeking to become the first Aussie team in 24 years to win gold. Remember, Sydney 2000, pod asked and cook. So if they do succeed, they'll equal the feats of net cook and carry pod asked. One Olympic gold. They're one Olympic bronze as well. In the diving, we mentioned that the women synchronized three meter final. Maddie Keeney and Annabelle Smith, seven o'clock. So that is a medal event. So that's a one worth watching in the once you're done. Maybe catch some of the heats and flick over to do the basketball. Now, this pair, Maddie Keeney Annabelle Smith, they won bronze at Rio 2016, if you do recall. They're in outstanding form. So they are a genuine metal chance. Might school the first medal of the games for the Australians. Grace Brown, the cycling road race. She was fourth in Tokyo. Take a lot of confidence to Grace Brown, consecutive silver medals at the past two world championships. So another one in metal contention. Then you have Lucas Plape, he's going to ride the men's time trial after winning a track bronze medal in team pursuit in Tokyo. And then he had the women's time trial. That starts at 10.30 p.m. tonight. The men's time travel start at 12.30 a.m. tomorrow morning. They reckon they reach an average speed of about 55 clicks. That's pretty decent. rugby sevens. You touched upon it a bit before greenkeeping rooster. So the Aussie men have had their best Olympic campaign ever. They're flying at the moment. They are full of confidence. They undefeated in Paris. They take on Fiji, the two time defending champions at 12 a.m. So that is huge, huge, that semi-final. And if they do beat Fiji, if they can beat Fiji, they'll play France or South Africa for the gold medal. That'll be at 3.45 a.m. So the first goal potentially would be the men's rugby sevens, but I mean, it's quite the hurdle isn't it? Fiji. And if they knock off the might of the Fijis, they'll play the France, the home team. They'll say Africa bumper crowds at 60, 70,000 in for the rugby sevens, which got the Olympic Games underway. And then they got the bronze medal playoff at 3 a.m. So well, chances are they're going to get middle. Having said that now, I'll probably hit the mock on them and they'll come forth. Swimming as we mentioned, so in there in the hunt for four medals in the pool podium just walks up the grabs as well. Men's and women's 400 free. The men's and women's four by 100 freestyle relay. So the big names. Our tip is Sam Shaw, Elijah Whittington, Emma McKim, Mollio Callahan. So seven o'clock Eastern Standard Time finals at 4.30 a.m. So are you going to get up for those? Boomers will be Spain. We've touched upon that. And in the judo, City's Josh Katz. Good luck to Josh Katz. He's got to compete in the men's 60 kilogram division. That is at the arena, Chomp de Mole from six o'clock tonight. So Paris is the second game for the 26 year old. His coach by his brother, Nathan, measurement coach by your brother. Then we turn our attention to the artistic gymnastics, Jess Moore or Jesse Moore, Australia's sole representative in the men's artistic competition. Now he was second all round title at the 2024 Aussie gymnastic championships and has his Olympic debut now after claiming first place at the Oceania Continental Championships in New Zealand in May. So he's got the qualities for the men's all round this afternoon. And then in rowing, Australia always a strong tradition in rowing at the Games, a 37 strong team across nine boats. They've got this rowing regatta. This is at the Versoo Marnautical Stadium, I think I'll pronounce that correctly, runs from today through to the third of August. So the first race, six 10 p.m. Tonight is the Standard Time Women's Single Sculls Tower, Rigny in action. She's the 2022 and 2023 World Championship bronze medalist. Also in action in the rowing today, Harriet Hudson, Amanda Bateman, that's in the double skulls, Katelyn Cronin, Laura Gullo, Rowena Meredith and Rhea Thompson, the women's quadruple skulls. And then the water polo, there's so much on. The sting has opened their campaign against China. The Aussie women will take a lot of confidence into this contest, having recently won a three-nil series over China, and that will be at 4 a.m. tomorrow. Shooting. A leader, Gallia Bovitch, returning for a third consecutive game is a pistol shooter. So she's in action in the 10-meter air pistol today. She carried the I.S.C. flag in the opening ceremony in Tokyo, and she's going to compete in the 25-meter pistol later in the games as well. We talked about Jess Fox, that's a women's K-1 heats, and for the man, Tristan Carter will make his Olympic debut in the C-1 heats. Skateboarding, I quite like the addition of skateboarding to the game. Shano Neale, 34, which has to be said is pretty old for us, skateboarder, is it not? Shano Neale returns for his second games in the street event. He's an LA-based skate up, Shano Neale, known for his rather, well, innovative videos and tricks. They're very excited to challenge the Paris course. And then surfing, isn't it great? What of any? Can you top it? Surfing at the games are the great tarpo, small and quite fishing village near the French Polynesian island of Tahiti. The first round of competition begins at 3 a.m. tomorrow. Jack Robinson, Ethan Ewing, representing the men, Molly Picklam and Tyler Wright in the women's, the Kookaburras, they take what Argentina has mentioned tonight, the hockey 9, 15 p.m. And then to wrap up all the Aussie action for day one of the Olympic Games, we've got the Ping Pong, the table tennis. So the Australian table tennis campaign kicks off with the prillium rounds for singles and mixed doubles, dual Olympian and triple Paralympian Melissa Tapper, men Hyung-ji, Finn Liu and Nicholas Lum are all in action. So there we go, we're up to date with all the Australians in action for day one of the Games. Tell me what excites you about the Games, what events are you keen on watching? 045773676. Around the grounds we go, North Melbourne now trailing Geelong, Geelong 5535. This is in the second quarter over North Melbourne 4226. In the NRLW action, this match between the Broncos and the Eagles, full-time Parramatta have defeated Brisbane 22 points to 10 in the NSW Cup at the moment. The Panthers have defeated the Dragons 30 points to 24. The Bulldogs defeated the Bears 32 to 10 coming up at 3 o'clock today, we've got the Jets and the Eels and a queue cup action. We've got this match at the moment, the Falcons and the Jets full-time as a matter of fact, Sunshine Coast Falcons 32 have defeated the Ipswich Jets 16 and they've just got underway. The Magpies and the Bears currently nil all 330 this afternoon, rather the Cutters and the Devils as well as the Pride and the Seagulls and later on today. The Tigers take on the Blackhawks, the Cappers and the Dolphins. 045773676, the text line number, Greenkeeping Rooster, Jules, just on John Williams. Do you remember when Semi-Finals have played at the old SFS, the Olympic spirit will belt out as the sides took the field. I love that. I once did a mock of those. Number seven, Todd Carney or something like that and it would have be whoever's voice it was, but you're right. It's something beautiful about it. It just sort of rumbles in the background. It was narrated over the top. Todd says, opening ceremony, it was a cultural gold medal. Brisbane 2032, well, hasn't bet that been in the news about this, what, $2 billion temporary stadium. It looks like a park football ground. Brisbane 2032 can only hope to be that good doubt. We would have the courage, however, I was going to go back to back as far. Good on you, Toddy. Fingers crossed he does. Get on turbo and tell our tri-scorers, I've got turbo to burn young and satilly in all your Malties. Thank you, Ponder. Jack will add it to the swimming one as well. And Hillstorm, hello, Hillstorm, three tips. One's already come to fruition. Storm win their 700th game since time pick can, McLaren one and two in Q3 tonight. Oscar to have his second, Oscar's very popular. I know you love your motor sport, Hillstorm. Have his second win in a row, which should be a hat trick, really. Yeah, and good luck to the dragons. Keep your dreams. Good on you, Hillstorm. Appreciate the sport. Cheers and bevies. 0457 736, 736, the text slide number are breaking back with more. You're on Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon. Sports HQ Saturday afternoon on SCN 1170 AM in Sydney, SCN Q693 AM in Brisbane, 1620 on the Gold Coast and across the globe via the SCN app. Great to have your company wherever you're tuned in this Saturday afternoon. Julian King and the chair, keep the text coming in, folks. 0457, 736, 736 and 83 sporting tips for the weekend. I've got the boomers to beat Spain in the basketball tonight. I've got turbo to score against the chookies tonight at Alleone Stadium and Oscar Piaestri. I haven't gone so far as to say a win, although we had three different texts to say. Oscar's going to win, go back to back, which would be lovely to see. But I've got him on the podium. Was that McLaren? Looks like a pretty decent race car at the moment. Just recapping the team news for the first of the three-game Super Saturday, big game to the Broncos and the Bulldogs. So Corey Oates has joined the interchange bench in a swap with Tyson Smoothies. So Tyson Smoothie now, the 18th man. Reese Walsh will line up at fallback, despite missing the captain's run due to illness. Oates was originally dropped to make way for the return of Selwood Cabo. Kobe Hedrington moved into the starting side in place of Brendan Piaquora. It was amongst their reserves and Stephen Crichton is the big out for the Bulldogs. Jarrell Skelton is the man to take his place in the back line. So that'll get underway that game. In about 15 minutes time, Grant Atkins is the referee and Wyatt Raymond is the man in the bunker. Just on some injury news. The West Tigers lost to the Warriors has come at a costa. So four players now, this is tough for Benji at the moment, isn't it? Four players had a risk of missing next week's game. So he did say afterwards he was proud of them to get back to 1410. They had no fit players on the bench and a lot of guys playing out of position. winger Luke Lalili left the field early in the second half for an HIA was later ruled out for the matched up for Toa suffered a hamstring injury. That coach, well, Benji Marshall fees could lead to an extended sin on the sidelines. Locken Galvin, Isaiah Puffili also failed to finish the match. So he was unable Benji to give an update on what the exact injuries are but said they're in doubt for next week clash with the Cowboys. And Puffili was playing just his first match, he scored, I think, first match he did since he suffered that ankle injury in round 12. And for the Warriors, Jackson Ford, he suffered a knee injury with the exact severity still to be determined so that it'd be a big out as well. For the Warriors who have their fair share of injury concerns, the Cowboys and the Sharks will each be without damaging forward pair or damaging forwards after a pair of late changes prior to Saturday's clash between the two sides. I'll go through the rest of the late mail shortly in the program. Tony Howdy, JK and Howdy to new Alex Safarth has been charged by the match review committee over a tackle on the Warriors playmaker Tamari Martin in last night's loss. He was charged Alex Safarth with a Grade 1 dangerous contact. Faces are fined of $1,800 if he pleads guilty or $2,500 if the unsuccessfully challenged the charge at the due dischery. So that is coming out of last night's game. Opal 57, 736, 736, that is the text line number. As I mentioned, Tyrell slowed, doing ducks and drake stuff here. They said our hamstring injury, it was named on Tuesday, may not play, he's dropped. He was dropped because he showed up in Eastfield Wales Cup, scored a try and that lost to the Panthers. Michael Cariannis in the telegraph. Tyrell's Sloane sacked Flanagan reveals why a relapse of defensive deficiencies had led to Flanagan, axing Tyrell's Sloane ahead of this game against Penrith and Sundae said dropped him after the 22 year old full back struggled off the ball during that last start winning against the Broncos. Yeah, goal line defense was an issue. And Flanagan said, look, he's worked hard, he's done some good things at the start of the season. Over the last couple of weeks he had fallen away defensively, he got some big gains, he was sending him back to reserve grade to get some practice. He'll be back quality player. There are two sides to the ball, he has to work on that. So Matt Fino, who recently extended until the end of 2026, he's going to get his first opportunity in his four year career to start at full back after impressing that New South Wales Cup level. And he said Tyrell Sloane understood the decision, said, look, he's fine, he knows it's the journey, he knows what he has to work on, taking some steps this year, there's a lot more to be taken. Now further to that too, just before we get to another break, Zach Lomax got dropped last year, remember? Not long before Hook got sacked. They dropped Zach Lomax and now look at him. He'll be back, he's two class of player and I've got a lot of time for Tyrell Sloane as a footballer. I think his positional play defensively has improved, one-on-one, they need some work, they did concede a couple on the line, maybe another week he makes those tackles. He doesn't strike me as a sort of guy, his confidence would be dented too much by being dropped, he's had a good stint at full back. And he did score a try too in that 30-24 New South Wales Cup loss. He played alongside Jack Bird and Michaela Revelauer, this is first reserve grade game since 2022. 0457, 736, 736, the text line up are breaking back with more Sports HQ. Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon, almost about to kick off for the first of the three Super Saturday games today, big game between the Broncos and the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, knows Stephen Crichton for the Bulldogs, Blake Moser on the bench, Corey Oates on the bench, as well for Brisbane. Three games tomorrow, there was no Thursday night fixture because of the NFLW season kick off, so we've got a 6-15pm game tomorrow, so two o'clock tomorrow, the Dragons and the Panthers at Witten Stadium, Wollongong, it's a sellout by the way, which is great, hopefully it's a nice day there by the Wollongong Ocean, as Paul Wharton likes to call it, the Dolphins and the Titans, all Queensland affairs, Suncorp Stadium, 405pm tomorrow, and then two teams, still hopeful of playing finals for Paul the Raiders and the Rabbidos, 10v13, what is sure to be a Chile-GIO stadium in Canberra, 6-15pm kick off tomorrow night, and it's the Newcastle Knights that have the buy, Saturday action, the NRLW, the Sharks, 14, defeated the Cowboys, Nelliput, Spett Stadium, and the Eels, 22 over the Broncos, 10, tomorrow we've got the Dragons and the Titans at midday, followed by the Tigers and the Raiders, an update from the AFL at the moment, this match between Jelong and North Melbourne, half-time, it is the Cats 6-5-41 leading the Kangaroos 4-3-27, hit me up on the text, line 0-4-5-7-7-3-6-7-3-6-3-6-3-6-3, sporting tips for the weekend, I've got the Boomers beating Spain, I've got turbo to score against the Roosters and Piastria to land a podium finish at Spa, and I want to take your calls in the open line 1-300-01-11-7, I've got another break coming up on the other side of this, I'll catch up with rugby league journalist Mike Wood to chat all things in R.L. Stephen Kreit and the Big Out for the Doggy, so this is 12-V-6, and the Brisbane Broncos, well, much been said and written about them having dropped six on the trot, no team has ever gone on to win the competition having lost six in a row. You know that they're good enough to make it, they've got the cattle to challenge, and if they do scrape into the finals, you really, I can't imagine anybody would want to play them, but they've got to get there first, because it's the last chance saloon for the Brisbane Broncos. I'm going to talk all things Rugby League with Mike Wood, Rugby League journalist, shortly on the program. Don't forget to keep setting in those three sporting tips for the weekend, 04-5-7, 7-3-6, 7-3-6, so I've gone the embolbers to beat Spain in the basketball tonight in the games, turbo to score against the roosters, when Manley got to Allian Stadium, 7-35pm tonight, and then I've got the Radelska Piastra to land on the podium there at Spa, so keep them coming in throughout the remainder of the afternoon, also coming up this hour, who am I? Now I did say at the top of the show, because in the grips of Olympic fever for a couple of weeks, it's got to be the Olympic theme, who am I? Bit of a cult hero this fellow, so I've given you a bit of a teaser there, that's all I say, we'll do that in about 20 minutes time. On the program, Michael on the text line says, "Good afternoon, Jules, just notice that Blake Moses overtaken Tyson smoothie as the bench hookup or the Broncos, good on the young bloke." Really good young player, and even before he made his debut, so Satzi, one of our Queensland crew, and I used to say to that crunch time, is who keeps an eagle eye over all the good young players in the queue cup, and he was saying a while ago, "This Blake Moses, watch out for this kid." Excellent young player, excellent young player, now we're starting to see glimpses of how good he can be. Half-time in the AFL at the moment, it is to long 6-5-41, leading North Melbourne at 4-3-27, just recapping the NLW action this afternoon. The shark's defeated, the cowboy's 14 points to Nell, and the yield's too strong for the Broncos, 22 points to 10 in the New South Wales cup. Today, the Bulldogs defeated the best, 32-10, the Panthers over the dragons, 32-24. Last night, the Magpies defeated the Warriors, 20 points to 14, about to kick, well just getting underway. Now, at the beautiful Henson Park, we've got the Jets, and the eels, and then tomorrow, the Roosters and the Seagulls, followed by the Raiders and the Rabbidos. The stack of Queensland cup action getting underway as well. Earlier today, we had the Falcons, 32, too good for the Ipswich Jets, 16, the Magpies and the Bears, that match currently taking place in half an hour's time. We'll see kick-off between the Cutters and the Devils, as well as the Pride and the Seagulls, and 15 minutes after that, the Tigers meet the Black Hawks, and later on today, 4.30pm kick-off, the Cappers and the Dolphins. If you want to give me a shout, you can, 1.300, 0.1.11.70. You know, I was just ducked out during that last break, and the Missus has brought home like a gigantic ice caterer's size pack of chicken twisties. Now, I remember, I think I might have been filling in for either Matty White or Jimmy Smith, one of the two, and it basically came down to a choice between cheese or chicken twisties, and I was a cheese man, and I bagged a chicken twisties, but you know, that artificial sort of flavour that the chicken chips tend to have. Maybe it's, and I keep saying this about Manly, I'm getting a bit old, and I don't hate them, so I'm starting to warm the chicken twisties. I'm still a cheese twisties man, don't get me wrong, I'm cheese all the way, but I'm warming the chicken to the point where every now and then, I've had a choice, I might even opt for the green and gold as opposed to the red and gold packet. What that says about me, and I'm not entirely sure, I still think cheese twisties other way, but maybe it's because I'm a bit hungry, I just grabbed a, smashed a handful of chicken twisties, and I'll tell you what, they're pretty delightful. They're pretty delightful. 845-7-736-736. Ah, the teaser Bondi Jack, I just said, it's an Olympian cult figure, that's all I've said. So I've got an Olympian today, we're going to park the rugby league nostalgia for the next couple of Saturdays, while the Olympic Games are on, well Mitch likes fruit and nut shock. Actually Mitch, while we got you, mate, I'll just get you to jump on, jump the, turn the mic on, so jump and I will be here, so. Hello, George, hello, mate. So, are you a chicken twisties man, or a cheese twisties man? I would completely agree with you on the rhetoric around being a cheese twistie man, but also agree that, that chicken has its place. Yeah, it does. It has come, it has come good, I don't know if it's getting a little bit older. That's what I was saying to you about the fruit and nut shock, like I didn't want that anywhere near me when I was a bit younger, but now that I'm a bit older, I don't mind the fruit and nut shock. Cadbury fruit and nut severely underrated. Yeah, with the chicken twisties on, I'm no longer a never chicken man, I'll leave it at that. Not that ever really was, but not, you know. Just the twisties. Not a hundred, I'd be a cheese man, now it's probably 80 times out of a hundred. That's what I'm saying. I mean, that's good for, that's good for the company that makes twisties, that's double the potential for Jules's money. I'm a bit older than you, Mitch, but back in the day, we still like to shrink the twisties packets in the oven, make careings out of them. Oh, that's interesting. Anybody remember doing that on the, hey, hit me up on the text line if you remember that. Do you remember shrinking the chip packets in the oven? You're chucking, and they get really small, you know, maybe five by five centimetres, something like that, and you get the whole punch, and then you can attach it to your keys, shrinking the chip packets in the oven. Does anybody still do that? I can't remember what last, how old I was when I last did it, or I mummed it for me. But that's something you don't see anymore. Hey, three sporting tips of the weekend. So just to recap, I've gone, the boom is to beat Spain, which, you know, that's going to be really tough ask. Turbo to score against the roosters, that's highly predictable, and then I've got Oscar Piastra to finish on the podium, which all things going well, he's not too big an ask. What do you got? I have got, I'm going an all any time tri-scorer, three legger this afternoon. I'm going to jump on Iceland, Liam Eisen, the young man making a debut for the sharks. The sharky, yep. Shug has been on him all week, or talking about him all week, not on him all week, saying how good this kid is. He's in for Will Kennedy, who's out. And I think we might chuck some money on there. I'm going to double up your turbo. I'm going to say turbo two or more. So turbo two or more, it's going to be a good afternoon, good evening for turbo. And then just despite Bondi Jack on the text line, not that I'm a roosters fan in any way, but because Bondi Jack has brought up cetilly so many times, I am going to say that cetilly will get in any time tri-scorer tonight. You are reaching deep. So you've got young Iceland for the sharks, do you say to score? Anytime you get two, it's a tilly to score. Yeah, look, it's an absolute Hail Mary play. This is punting, mate. They're all Hail Mary play. Exactly. But no, it's a bit of fun. I wanted to get around young Iceland and I thought, I love Bondi Jack. I love that he's gone hard on cetilly there, so let's show some love. Well, it's not offensive, Bondi Jack. You're never unsure of where he sits on any given issue. That's it. Police punches, Bondi Jack, and I love his fourth ride opinions. I love how he types too, because he always calls me Jewell. That's very nice. All the capitals. Cute little nickname. I love that for you. What do you think of that, Bondi Jack? Cetilly two, but no one to score. Turbo to score two. You've got turbo down a wheelie to loud, Tommy to loud, should say. Scoring. There, keep. Opal five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six. The text line number. You're three sporting tips with the weekend, and anything you're looking forward to, the games. You're going to get up for anything. The swimming, the sevens, mind you. Red hot chads at a middle. The LZ sevens, but you have to get up in the early hours in the morning. That was the best thing about Tokyo. Everything is at a really reasonable hour. It's not the same with these games in Europe. It is eight minutes after three. Well, time to talk some rugby league with Mike Michal Wood from Love Rugby League.com, and no doubt, we're going to find some tenuous Olympic cross-overs as well. Hello, Mike. Always a pleasure. Always a pleasure, man. I did read that Peter Velandis is in Paris, and you know that PVL has openly lobbied for rugby league to feature at the Brisbane Games in 2032. What form that'll take? I'm not sure probably nines, but if we know something about the illustrious leader is a go-getter, you can be a head kicker if it needs to be. You have drawn our attention, Mike, to a bit of rugby league DNA in these Paris games. There certainly is. Yeah, this is a little idea I had in the shadow, or all your best ideas happen. I thought that's worth a couple of thousand words. And it's true as well, because I mean, I refer you to an article I wrote on Love Rugby League.com about judo, which is not a really a much watched sport in Australia or in the UK, with Love Rugby League.com space, but it's huge in France. You actually, if you watch the opening ceremony this morning, the big black guy he was like in the flame, Teddy Rene, is the greatest judo care of all time, and his national celebrity. He'd be Cathy Freeman or some oil in thought, levels of celebrity in France, and everyone in France wants judo, so that's going to be one of the big sports to watch for French people. But in terms of rugby league, like the sport you see the most, I guess there's going to be sevens, obviously, but we won't lower ourselves to watch your reunion. But the sport that you probably see in the next most of similarities in these judo, because that's so much of a rugby league that is happening on the floor. And I have to say, I was biased because I did it growing up. I was a judo care when I was a kid, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. And I'm sure anybody who's got who watches UFC or has a background of MMA stuff like that, you'll see the same thing and go, "Oh, that's lifted straight out of BJJ." Well, BJJ is the straight out of a judo. It's the same moves. Obviously in jujitsu, you mean? Yes, yes, yes. Well, they come from the same route back in when Japanese people first went to Brazil, they sort of basically BJJ moved towards what it is now, and judo moved towards getting in the Olympics. So yeah, and it's all on TV. You can go watch it all, and I don't think there's that much Australian interest in it. There's a British girl who might get a bronze medal in Tokyo, but yeah, and there's a great luxury connection because the first woman to ever score a try at Wembley, which I think I was told is the first woman to score a point of any description at Wembley, but I'd have to double check that because I don't know how much women's soccer was played there, but she later competed in the Olympics with judo, and I know that because my dad coaxed the team. There you go. The running gags weren't they? You know, if you said Cameron Smith did the Olympic Games, he'd win a gold medal in wrestling, ha, ha, and the rest of it. But you talk more broadly about techniques and, you know, listening to some of the players that played under Brian Smith at the dragons in the 90s and who adopted wrestling techniques, not in defence, but in attack to speed up the play the ball. And you figured out, well, across the course of 80 minutes, you might get five or six extra play the balls, and that could be the difference between wing and losing. So, you know, it's... Well, I can give you even more insight on that because my mother is a judo black belt. That's why I did it as a kid. And she was brought into health, Brian Smith, when he was coach, I think, of Hall F.C. in the late 80s. So Brian Smith, if you answer the question, it's who invented this coaching technique and you'll believe the answer is almost certain grants here. Uh-huh, uh-huh, which is maybe why he was, I don't know how close he was to getting the the eels job, but probably surprised many by the fact that the eels listened to his pitch in the first place before eventually going with Jason Riles. Well, he's, I can, you know, I've scored some a few times in the course of my career, and he's, uh, yeah, he speaks. I'd always listen for it that way. Yep, definitely. He just touched upon Seven's air. There's a lot of, you know, across, particularly in the women's game, you know, with rugby plays and jumping ship to, you know, to, you know, in our early think about Charlotte Catholic for the Australians. I remember talking to, to Jamie Soud, just ahead of the NRLW competition last year, and he was thrilled with the services of, of Tyler Nathan Wong and the fact that she'd signed a play for the drag and said this, you know, she's such a gifted footballer. She could potentially be the best in the squad. Sure enough, one year later to pursue the Olympic Seven's dream before, you know, hopefully sailing off into retirement with a gold medal, but, you know, that's, that's where they got to cast the net to, to keep up with NRLW expansion is look at those rugby ranks and even rugby sevens ranks. Yeah, they, well, we, we've seen the men's side. We've already got, um, Will Wahlberg, who was excellent last night for the moment. Three hundred and twelve mazes did us say three hundred and twelve running meters. Yeah, well, I actually spoke to him once after, you know, when he just must have only played top five or six games, he said that the hardest part to transition over was that he had to run into people rather than round them. But yeah, I mean, the women's game is, the women's rugby union, particularly that, I mean, I'm not, I wouldn't claim to be an expert in any form of a rugby union, but the, the pay disparity between the NRLW and, and Super will be, W is, is pretty massive. And I think I, I got references in the archive. I'm pulling this off the top of my head, but I think four players from the Australian team and who from the Kiwi team, who have played at the last Olympics, pretty much immediately swaps you. You've got anime, Tana Gato, Vanuokalito, um, Taylor Nathan Wong and Gail Broughton. I think all played in the last Olympics for the women's and it's, it's pretty simple. It's because of the money and I, and I think we've actually seen from the NRL combine in Las Vegas, there was also an American player who, like I said, I've forgotten the name, but she, she was also from a sevens background, who came across and I think it's because it's not so much that they get paid more. It's that there are far more paid jobs available. Yes. It would be because of their own review. So if you are, you know, if you're the best player on the, on the Walla Rouge, then you're probably not getting too much different to what somebody's getting on the, you know, the cricket team or the probably not on Matilda, but, you know, like, or the Gila Rouge, but, you know, there's only, how many players that actually own in that money in the reunion, whereas there's 100 and something players own in 30 minutes, 30 grand minimum a year to play rugby league. So I think that's, um, that's your opinion's problem and they haven't really solved it and the Olympics is basically showing us who are the best at running an open space, I suppose. It's good fun. It's a drinking festival for a lot of the VX pets I've known in Hong Kong and my time visiting there. Let's turn our attention to the men's game. Mike, a wonderful origin series. That is now behind us and we look at the run home six rounds to go after this. I'm loving that at this late stage, there are so many teams still in finals contention and almost every game of the weekend has a bearing on that top eight starting with the three matches today. Broncos and dogs just getting underway. A massive game. I want to get thoughts on the Broncos, you know, came within a whisker of winning the premiership last year, you know, been racked by injury, dropped six on the trot. You know, they've got the cattle. Is there season two far gone? I think it's going to be difficult, but I think that there's two teams here where I think them, the Broncos and Manley at the two sides where I think because of the way that their team is set up, if they do get into the finals, they'll be a real threat from deep because their best football has often been, you know, obviously, Manley, Mr. Borrovich, lots of players missed for the Broncos at various stages, you know, Reynolds have been the most obvious. When they get to that end of the season and they've got everybody on deck, then they're a problem. But it's the question of, you know, in what state do they arrive there because if we can sneak into eighth, then it's going to be difficult. Whereas, you know, and if Manley don't condition the top four again, it's going to be difficult. So I think they're the two big questions. And of course, you've then got the the Bulldogs, which is a big example of, like, we don't really know how good this team is. Like, is this team is obviously better than it was, but is it actually, did they, I think they're going to struggle to have the attacking fire power later in the season? And today would be a real good opportunity to show that because their ability to be, you know, it's important enough points on that we can see that they can defend, but I just wonder that with the likes of Toby Sexton, for example, half that, is he going to be able to create enough points against the really good team? And I think as well, obviously, the Warriors and Souths, like, was something to be said for coming home with the web sale, especially if, say, if the Bulldogs have kind of run their race, especially the Dolphins, you know, they're, if their ability to keep this up phase, and there could be spots lower down for a team, like the Warriors, who, again, much like the Broncos, like, the players are there to just have, they always be able to get on the field at the same time, you know, have they always been in the best form? Because I know it's a cliche, but you win now in March and you win plenty in September. So those teams, Souths as well, if, you know, if we're trail came back and they kept the form they go, and then, geez, you want to play them in the finals if they'd snuck into the bottom of the day? Yeah, you know, when you start talking about mathematical chances, they're probably too far gone. But it's a good point about the Warriors are desperately unlucky to lose that game against the Raiders last week. This game tonight, Mike Rooster's manly, really intriguing clash for me. You touched upon the Eagles. Think about last week, a lot of people had the Rooster's pegged as genuine premiership contenders. That was a reality check against the storm, wasn't it? Yeah, it certainly was. And the thing that would worry me if I was a Rooster's fan, and I would put my cards at the table and say, "Am I see you've got fun?" Is that they've already done this once, which is when they went to Magic Mountain and got beat by Chronola, where we all thought this is the Rooster's that come in, and it never really happened. And they got beat by Chronola's side, to be honest, or from what we've seen since, well, they're not that good. So there's real real mistakes we made in that top floor, because I don't think Chronola, like, they've got the start of the season, has got them where they are, but they don't look too crash out at the moment. I think if manly wins tonight, then they suddenly, you look at who they've got to play for the rest of the year, and you think, well, we've got a real chance of going top four, and with that, you know, win to boy, the two to boy, which is Cherry Evans on deck, potentially cool, looking back, that's a real good team. But this is the moment they've got to do it, because the Rooster's away, like, manly and the Rooster's basically split, one home win each, every single season. And when they played them, I was there in a box, actually, in a corporate box, when they played them the first time, I don't remember much as a game, but I've watched it back since I don't remember much about the experience of Brookville, but it was, I remember being fun. But they, if they're serious, this is the sort of game where they're going to have to win, because manly, this year, and for many years, they've been a team that beats the good teams, loses the bad teams. Now they're on the back of beating some bad teams. And so you have to say, right, is this them now? Are they actually a good team? Or is it kind of the false form that we've seen a lot of times from the Seagulls really going back to the Dose House of the Days? And the similar thing with the Rooster's, the one win against top eight teams this season, well, they're facing the other one today, home turf against the manly, haven't got home all the quality playing, like, this is, again, I think they're $1.40 favourites to win, like, if they don't win that, then you'd be able to have some pretty serious questions. Yeah, as I've said many times on my various programs, I've softened, I'm getting old, might because I don't hate manly that much anymore, Anthony Seagull. Oh, well, I'm the supporters, we hate you too. The Treboi, which is just such lovely boys, aren't they? You can't hate them. Yeah. And I don't like daily as well, but given the style of football, they play with turbo fit. And that's, of course, the caveat when it comes to the Eagles, they can, they can trouble anyone. Just another team that I want to get thoughts on making a run for the finals in, top eight at the moment, the Cowboys. Four of their last six at home, they do ever buy up their sleeves. It's favourable for them. They make the eight. I don't see how they miss the eight, but I just, this doesn't yet look like a premiership winning team to me, though. Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. No, I would say manly, if manly a flaky, the Cowboys are a whole croissant to use the French Olympic knife. Because I think they, I think they and Crannola benefit a lot from who they play and when they play them, but they benefit from where they play a lot in terms of the trip to Townsville. Like there's some of the games that I just think that even watching me go, this side doesn't really have it. And I think the problem with the tub-pating era has really been divided by the defender attack, but not both. You know, this year, the year they finished very highly was based on their defense and their attack eventually let them down in the pre-lane. I think subsequently they've, you know, Todd was so tugging. Well, Scott drink war was kind of the side for the Cowboys because he's an unbelievable attacking player in a terrible defensive one. I think he sort of ended up, he's pretty emblematic. Jeremiah would be a similar one where very good going one way, very bad going the other way. And I think those types of player are just one level down from the to boy of which Ola Kawatu, Fritzi, his mum is an example of that. You know, if you were landing them up and you go, who would you rather have a new team? I know who I'd rather have. And I do say that as a, with my most neutral hat on possible. You touched upon the sharks. Can we say that the Tigers played them back in a form or did that thrashing paper over the cracks after that string of losses that they had prior to that? Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, I watched the new town Jets and I think they give the Titans a run of the Tigers a run of the moment. So they, um, yeah, the Tigers are really, who you play at any given point, as the Warriors found out last night. So I would hold my judgment on Coronola. And I think they're, they're almost victims of their own success a little bit because they, they've got a really easy draw. They're almost never a big TV game because, you know, shark park and Coronola's not a big market, which means that they'll get good runs when they play quite a lot of bad teams. But yeah, I'm wholly unconvinced, especially with, you know, I've watched anything like a supplier lot for new town. I'm not sure that he's, you know, the man to lead them home. Although I'll be happily surprised to do because he's, he's always struck me as a very nice bloke. He's very good to watch. So yeah, I put them in the, put it this way. If I was playing them in the finals, I wouldn't be too worried about it. That'd be one of the teams I'd want to go. I don't think enough people are talking about Penrith. Mike, I really don't, you know, as though this, you know, three and a row, four grand finals, they're just anticipating a decline, as though it's inevitable. But you know, they've got the full compliment against the Dragons to Mario Barring, Dylan Edwards, just, and you look at how rusty Nathan just iced it against the Dolphins last round, 40 metre field goal. That should send shockwaves for the competition, because this guy's a winner, this team are ruthless winners. Yeah, it's a little bit for your sleep on a team that's about, you know, that's one, three primary ships in a row. But as in the case, just because they haven't been able to get the guys in the field, and I think the biggest question for them is whether they can get the dynamic back. I mean, you would back them to do it, give it how often they've done it before, but it's been a very sort of bit, bits and what's the word, bit part season, you know, Nathan's always played. I think Jerome Lewis has been almost the best player in the competition in Nathan's absence. I think that's a good sense for the West Tigers for once. But he's always had that in him, and we saw it when he played for some more in the World Cup, where he hasn't sort of, I think the young people call it the main character energy. And I think if they can get him going, he's always been third best player behind Nathan and as I, as I was able to go. So, yeah, I mean, I would be tipping them until otherwise. I think the roosters are not quite on that level. Melbourne could be, but I always feel that Melbourne, the policy of having the next man up is really good at beating a lot of teams in the NRL, but isn't going to be the best teams. I just think nobody's really figured out the Panther system. I run away. I think the only team that has actually done it is Manly, but Manly would have to get there to the point to play, which I don't think they will, I think they'll fall in the base before that. But we've seen from the way that, even last year, when they started a kicking duel, Anthony Sibalds come up with some really interesting ways of trying to move the game away from the, you know, if you don't like what your opponent's saying, change the conversation, and Manly have really done that, whereas I think that Melbourne will try and play him in the same way. And I think the roosters get stuck in that as well. And you've got to, if you play them at that's their type of gander, well, we've been in it, they've got, you know, the best version, the best system, and they've also got the best player. So I would still be tipping them. But yeah, I'm surprised that anyone is really considering anybody else's favourites. Okay, so we saw monsters return last night, just the last one before we let you go. Melbourne with monster fit, you know, that he's anything but a systems player care monster. I mean, surely they're a challenger, Melbourne. They have to be. Yeah. And I think Melbourne's system, you know, they're not really, they're almost like a throwback team in the sense that they, they defend collectively and tap almost individually, if that makes any sense, because they're happy to say what, do you know what Jerome, Cameron Munster, Ryan Papenhaus, and Harry Grant, you just got to make it up, you go when it's the game. And I think that will get you a very long way. I wonder whether it would be a, you know, roosters in the pregame and whether it would be a, you know, pandemic and grand final. But I think anybody else will be. And that's kind of, that's got Greg Bell in me a very long way in this career. And I don't see him changing it. And I don't think he should change it because, you know, he's got those players. He's made the roster to play that style of football. And it is very easy to backfill an offensive system with, you know, we're always surprised that they bring a guy from the Sony Ghost Falcons. And suddenly he looks like the best player ever. Our Joe Chan is a great example, come out of the Super League immediately fits in. And he goes because they built a system to backfill that type of player. Now the difference this year is that they've got, you know, Tyler Munster, I don't think anybody thought he was going to play as well as he has. They've obviously got Super by a logo who's coming through, you know, who's, who looks like he could be absolutely anything in a day. I don't know how many times Greg Bell needs to play the bench 14 fullback. But he's the last one who did he did was Nico Haines and that worked out all right. So yeah, he's a great proponent of getting your best players on the field and let them sort it out, which is kind of a throwback in 2024 in a row, but seems to be working for him. And yeah, I think they'll definitely win the minor partnership whether they'll have it in the key moments. You know, I think Munster, before he got injured was nowhere near his best. So maybe the time I thought doing good and they'll come back and you never know how injured these guys are before they go down if you go, you know what I mean? I think that might have been an issue for him, but he's a sort of dude you wouldn't back against, but I don't know. It's fascinating to see how the remaining six rounds play out. Mike would always good to get your thoughts. Thank you so much for sparing us some time on Sports HQ this Saturday. No problem, mate. Any time there he is. Rugby League writer, Mike Mielwood from love rugby league dot com. Parramatta on the text line, nice cash chills woody and astute analyst. Yeah, he's a good guy, but he watches the game closely and he writes good thoughtful pieces. Doesn't do as much now that he's left the rule, but he was he was great. I love his analysis and I'm glad that he gave some time on the program today around the grounds. We go this big match, the first to kick off Super Saturday between the Bronx and the Bulldogs. Wow. 16 points to nil. 28 minutes gone on the first half. Bronson Cherry, Connor Tracy, Gerald Skeleton, all scored for the dogs. I don't know what Brisbane side is showing up today. 16 nil. They're out of the blocks and are prepared to call the game to see it because they got the strike Brisbane to win this game, but that is a horror start. And if they lose this, that's their season go on Brisbane. That is them done. In the AFL, at the moment, this match between Jelong and North Melbourne, Jelong. Now, so North Melbourne are not getting thumped here. 8-8-56, third quarter. So the cat's 8-8-56 over North Melbourne, 6-4-40 in the New South Wales Cup. This guy between the jets and the eels. Just let that refresh in front of me. Let's give that a moment to the jets and the eels. I'll come back to that score at a moment. My computer's just been a little bit slow. Now, let's cross over to the queue club, the Magpies and the Burley Bears. Now, I'm just having a few internet problems at the moment. So once that refreshes, I'll bring that to you. But importantly, in the main fix to the NRL, the Broncos and the Bulldogs and Bulldogs with a comprehensive lead, 16 points to Neil. And earlier today, in the NRLW, the eels defeated the Broncos 22-10 and the sharks over the Cowboys, 14 points to Neil. Reptile, hello to you, my friend Jules or Shagger, I should say. My three sporting tips. Boomers to win. Rabbitos 13 plus, he has audacious love it. The rugby sevens to win gold. Thank you, reptile. Mark says that's cruel, probably case chickens. Is that in reference Mark to the chicken twisties? It might be. And you know what? They're probably right. They're probably right. I'm really jealous. My brother's over in LA at the moment. He's saying he actually went over there. This is what he does. Oh, so Mel Brooks is almost 100. He's doing a special screening of blazing saddles where he's going to talk to the opener. I might just fly over to watch it. Do you want to count us a love to, mate? But you know, the work commitments and whatnot. And I probably can't afford a trip. Oh, yeah. So while he's there, eating at the Vanderpump Rules restaurant, he's, you know, gone to Yosemite National Park, having the time of his life. He's taken his 19-year-old son with him. And he went to Dodger Stadium. He sends me this video. Oh, by the way, Jules, here you go. Here's Shohay, a Tarnie hitting a home run. Bang. Look, that is worth the price of admission. The MLB superstar. You've passed it. You've passed it. Absolutely love it. Absolutely love it. Ophel 5'7", 7-3-6-7-3-6. The text line number and bono, Jack's back in touch. Okay, this is not about the tilly-toop-n-er. It's about the let's be happy to die on our niece coach who destroyed our first 20 weeks of 20-23 with Suillie at left center. I remember your swathe of text messages about Suillie at center. I can do the best work right where you're playing in the game. Why are you playing in the left center? Our refuses to select a genuine center like Genix. We're about to start at this garbage in the 2017 prelim with Matto and left toops on the bench. This is what I love about your text messages, Bono, Jack's up. Sincerely, Jack, you know, you'll tee off right in capitals to emphasise your point. Sincerely, Jack, thank you, Bono, Jack. Always good to get your correspondence. Let's run through the late mail before. In fact, no, before we do that, I almost forgot a bit late in the running here. Who am I, Tom? I am going to give you a couple of clues. I did say throughout the show that it's not a rugby league player today. It's going to be an Olympian. Who am I? Here we go. You may not. I was born in Southport in Queensland in 1972. So it was a Goldie boy. It's born in Southport, Queensland, 1972. I have New Zealand, Maury descent, and I want a silver medal at the Sydney 2000 Games where I set an Oceanic record for my event. So there you go. There's a couple of teasers. Who am I? It's an Olympian, Australian Olympian. I'm born in Southport, Queensland, 1972. I have New Zealand, Maury descent. I want a silver medal at the Sydney 2000, where I set an Oceanic record in my event. Do you reckon know who it is? 0457, 73736, 736. That is the text line number 0457, 73736, or you can give me a shout as well. Hit me up in the open line 1,300, 0111, 70. That is the who am I? And I did say as well, a little bit of a cult figure. Are you getting up at 0445 to watch the men's 400 final? And then after that, the women's 400 final. It's the race of the century. That's what they're calling it. Titmus, Ledecky, McIntosh. So it's on again. It's the best race of Tokyo. It's going to be the best race here in Paris. So the two bonafide superstars and Titmus and of course, Ledecky and then some of McIntosh. What's interesting? So I saw Missoul clip chatting to Matty Johns and they're over there in Paris at the moment, Matty and Missoul. And he said, funny how Ledecky won't even mention Titmus's name. I don't have to have the psychological thing. Titmus will just openly mention Ledecky's name. He doesn't care. Ledecky is a phenomenon. Missoul reckons, Ariane's got to win this comfortably. And 14 years of age, some are McIntosh and then she went on to break. She finished fourth that time. Still the teenager, the Canadian has four world titles, a world record and just got this appetite, insatiable appetite to basically say to her, well, you know what, I can win this as well. Don't count me out. This is in the French capital. And we know this is a golden era for Australian swimming. But swimming like all sport, it's built on rivalries. And in the pool, there's no greater rivalry than these three really. And they've been a stack of show-stopping races over the ages. But the stars are just aligning nicely and nicely for this. This is worth getting up for them. You know, I can't do it. The body clock can't do it all the time, but you know, Ledecky's 27. It's, you know, spring chicken, but she's not old. She's not even 30. She's 27. She's the oldest of the trio, the most decorated. She's got seven Olympic gold. Katie Ledecky. She's got the 400 free at Rio. She broke her own world record. Tipmas is 23, but Ariane's the one to beat. Gold in Tokyo regained her world title, which she lost to some of McIntosh. And she did that when she won her second world title this year. The thing about McIntosh, she's the ex-factor because she's doing things that people haven't really seen before. I'm tipping Ariane, Tipmas. And if I think, think about this as a missile has gone so fast to say she could be our greatest ever swimmer. So passing and Ariane Thorpe are a doing phrase. That's a bold statement. I'm not prepared to go that far, and I know his opinion on swimming is worth everything in mind is nothing. Some are McIntosh. She's a double world champ in the 200 fly in 400 IM, second fastest woman in history over the 400 free. Cocking times that are basically 10 seconds faster than what Tipmas is doing at the same age, five seconds quicker than Ledeki at the same age. When you look at this swimming style, machine goes out hard, goes out like a rocket. She goes under 30 seconds for each of her fast five laps and just tries to hang tight until the end. You know, it got her last time around, but she's a better swimmer now, more mature. And if Ariane dows wind, and Molly, of course, is part of the Dean Boxles table, we're going to see the theatrical and animated dance of Dean Boxle again. I dare say yes. I dare say yes. Now, the hell am I? You've got it right on the text line, but no, Jack, I won't reveal the answer just yet. I'll let a few people jump in and have another stab. Who am I? Born in Southport, Queensland, 1972, New Zealand, Murray, descent. I want a silver medal at the city 2000 games where I set an oceanic record in my event. Australian athlete, silver medalist 2000, born in Southport and Queensland, 1972. Who do you reckon it is? Hit me up on the text line. 045773636 and you open on 1,300, 01170. And just before we get to another break, I thought this was nice. You know, I like sort of tidbits and I do a little, did you know in the next out, the program, along with the birthdays, some cool things that you may not know about the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Did you know, I don't only learnt this the other day, Olympians who win a medal will take home a real piece of the Eiffel Tower. So the way that works, they've got fragments of iron, were removed and preserved during renovations to the Eiffel Tower. This is during the 20th century. They've been infused into the medals. So each medal includes 18 grams of the Eiffel Iron. How about that? It's a nice little local touch, isn't it? So Olympians who win a medal, any medal will take home a real piece of the Eiffel Tower. So they've got fragments of iron from the Eiffel Tower. Each medal includes 18 grams of the Eiffel Iron. How about that? Opal 57736736. Hit me up with you. How are my answers? Continue to hit me up with your three sporting tips of the weekend. What events are you getting up for? Metals up the grab tonight in the pool in sort of the early hours of the morning likewise. The rugby sevens. We've got some diving medals up the grab tonight as well. The boom is an action. There are stacks happening in the first week of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Breaking back with more, you're listening to Sports HQ on the SCN this Saturday afternoon. Sports HQ Saturday afternoon on the SCN network Parramats back in touch. I didn't catch all the hints, Jules. Is it Edmund Hillary? Is it Edmund Hillary? No, said it's an Aussie, not a Kiwi. Sorry, Edmund Hillary. It's not. So basically, he's born in Southport Queensland, 1972. This is the who am I? One silver in his event in the games City 2000, where he set an oceanic record. Bono, Jack's got her eye. I'll give you one more crack Parramat before I reveal the answers. A bit of a little bit of a lyric in this bloke. I'm probably giving it away now, who apparently has never been refuted this Olympic athlete. Enjoyed late nights. He loved his smoke, loved his pizzas, loved a bourbon and coke. So it's not sort of diet necessarily recommend for an elite athlete in his pride, but he managed to set an oceanic record in his event in Olympic silver, before he's knees and whatnot started to give away on him. So there you go. It's not Edmund Hillary. You say, have you caught Jules? The NRLW Eels team doing their team tri-July celebration whole team effort. The women always have a good deal. I haven't. No. So they defeated the Broncos today, 22 points. I haven't checked it out, though. So he's Ali Facebook. She's the one that's, I don't really care. She's the one that's dating Curtis Scott, maybe. Around the grounds we go, the Bulldogs and the Broncos. So they shot out, there was 16 nil lead. And I said, they do have, they do have the personnel to come back. Reese Walsh scores in the 29th minute, Catoni Staggs right on the stroke of half time, 39th minute, 16-10 at the end of all. And we have ourselves a ball game. 16 points that in. I reckon Brisbane going to win it now. I'll probably put the mock on him. But after leading 16 nil, the Broncos had, you know, it's the old, it's the old line that the commentators like to see. So they've got to be in the next score. Well, they were. And they scored two. So Catoni Staggs did it again right on half time, being good for him, actually, Catoni. 16 points to 10 at half time. In the AFL, an update there between the Cats and North Melbourne, 74 plays 46 end of the third quarter, Geelong 11, 874 leading North Melbourne, 746 have updated to New South Wales Cup and Q Cup to the Jets. Lead the eels, half time, 22 points to six. New town over Parramatta, 22 points to six. And in the Q Cup, the Magpies lead the bears 14-12. The devil's four nil over the cutters, the pride four nil over Wynnum Manley and the match getting underway just kicked off. As a matter of fact, we've got the Brisbane Tigers up against the Townsville Black Hawk. So four, five, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six is the text line number. And don't forget to keep those three tips for the sporting weekend coming in. So Mitchie on the buttons today, young Iceland, are deputizing for Will Kennedy for the sharks. Got him scoring. Got turbo scoring, two against the chukis. And you've got Sotili Tupanilla, any time tri-scuro. So that's interesting. That's correct. You've got a lot hinging on one game of football, there. All right. Okay. Okay. Let me get your feedback before we hit another break. What do you think of mine? A boom is to beat Spain. Yeah, you'll know. Yeah, absolutely. I think. Well, obviously Turb, I'll give you back to it. So you tick ding ding me for a turbo to score to get the roosters hit off. That's two. That's two. And what about Pastry on the podium? Look, I'd love to see it again. It'd be good after last weekend to double it up. He's got a really dry sense of humour. Oscar Pastry. You know, normally first-time race winners. Okay. Yeah. Thanks, guys. It's a great feeling. Yeah, it's just really cooking, really laid back and dry and very self-confident young man, but he's a mad cricket fan. So footage of him as a little kid, you know, just standing next to Ricky Ponting. Oh, wow. In the last Ashes Tour, he got the Nets facing line and Stark and the boys. He loves his cricket and Pat Cummins amongst the first to congratulate him on Instagram. So yeah, Oscar, he loves his cricket. It has to be. I'll wrap this up before we get to the break. Bono, Jack, yes. Jump and Jai Tarema. Jai Desmond Tarema. Good on your mat. No, I heard South something and thought I heard South Island and then Oceania. Therefore, Koei Haha. No, no, that's it. You're jumping Jai Tarema. And you get the crowd. Don't you love the ones that actually get the crowd into it? And silence it. Just feed off the energy of the crowd. One, three hundred. I won 11, seven of the open line number. Breaking back with more. You're on Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon. Welcome back to the program. You are tuned in. I'm about to say I'm lovely. Well, I'm always love and league. I'm always love and league. It is Sports HQ this Saturday afternoon. It's fast approaching four o'clock. Don't forget in the final half hour of the program, I have a nice little did you know that's got to take you back to date in the 1980 Moscow games and the controversies in and around that, not just the boycotts, but in particular how a certain Australian triple jumper was robbed, robbed in broad daylight and birthdays as well for Saturday, the 27th of July. Around the grounds we go half time as mentioned at Suncorp Stadium, the first of the three Saturday games. It is the Bulldog 16 leading the Broncos. 10 free tries to two tries to Bronson Sherry kind of trace in drill skeleton was in the side for the injured. Stephen Creighton for the Bronx tries to reswash and katony stags. They trail 16 nil. So important couple of tries there for Brisbane to fight back to get within a converted try at half time in the AFL. It is Geelong 75 leading North Melbourne 46. This is in the fourth quarters along 75 over North Melbourne 46 and in the New South Wales Cup action early today, the Panthers 30 over the Dragons 24. The Bulldog 32 defeated the Bears 10. The Jets currently leading the eels 22 points to six and tomorrow got the roosters and the seagulls and in the Queensland Cup action, it is the pride four of the seagulls, nil devils four over the cutters, nil. And in the second half, the Magpies 14 leading the Bears 12 earlier today. The Sunshine Coast Falcons 32 defeated the Jets 16. Keep those texts coming in on that text line 04 5 7 7 3 6 7 3 6. Bit more Olympic talk in the next hour of the program. What are you getting up for? What are you staying up for? Swimming rugby sevens, you name it. Plenty of Aussies in action for day one of the Paris 2024 Games. You're on Sports HQ. Turn up the volume, turn up the flavour, wings, beers and sporting glory, only at Winghouse. Join the conversation. Call 1300 01 170. This is Sports HQ on SEM. Welcome back everyone. Final half hour of the program. Julian King and the chair for Sports HQ. Good to be back on this Saturday afternoon. A very hearty good afternoon to our friends tuning in on SEM 11 7 a.m. In Sydney, SEM Q 693 a.m. In Brisbane, SEM 1620 on the Gold Coast. And anywhere via the SEM app, there is a ton going on. Are you in the grips of Olympic fever? I was slow to get going really until probably just a few days before when the rugby sevens results came through us. The Aussies are going pretty well. Got a semi-finance night against the all-conquery Fiji. And if I get through that, the chance for a gold in the early hours the morning. Is that what you're going to stay up for? What are you getting up for? I don't know. I'll probably catch the sevens tonight. Don't know if I'll get up for the gold medal a bit. 100% I'm going to get up for the match race between Ledecky, Tippmus and McIntosh. 4 55 a.m. So love for you to let me know in this final half hour of the program today, 04 5 7 7 3 6 7 3 6 on the text line or on that open line 1 300 01 170. What events are you most looking forward to? What events are you most looking forward to? As we go around the grounds back on deck for the second half between the Broncos and the Bulldogs. No change to that halftime score 16 points to 10 in the AFL in the final quarter. The Cats 11 9 75 lead North Melbourne 8 4 52 in the new South Wales Cup at the moment. It is still 22 points to six. The Jets lead the Parramatta Eels and in Q Cup action. I'll just very slow to update curell.com and new South Wales rugby league.com website. 20 points to 12 now. The Magpies over the bears. Cutters lead the Devils 18 10 at the pride and win a manly six apiece on the Blackhawks 10 over the Tigers' nil. But just back to the swimming. I mentioned before so I could hear friend James and the Missile Magna so I'd said Tippmus could become Australia's greatest ever swimmer. It's a bold statement and it's hard to compare across eras is she better than thought was she better than Dorne right? So if Tippmus then wins again in 2028 which is where LA I think 2028 in three consecutive games same event then you go okay right. Dorne is only the second female swimmer and third overall well she was the first by the way but one of two female swimmers and one of three overall to win the same event at three consecutive games. And that was the 100 three in Melbourne, Roman, Tokyo 56, 60, 64. So I don't think you can definitively say that oh Tippmus will be greater than Dorne or Shane Gill for that matter. It's probably apples with oranges so it won't go so far as to make a bold statement but that's what he's paid to right James Magnison. Ariane Tippmus is on track to become Australia's greatest ever swimmer he writes and that he's got papers better than Ian Thorpe. But he contends missile if Ariane was around for the Sydney 2000 games should be one of if not the biggest name athletes in Australia. Yeah probably. The landscaper swimming has changed a lot over 24 years in Sydney Thorpe was a national hero he's faces everywhere before the games held at a new era for the dolphins that led to commercial opportunities made the swim team popular beyond belief all that is true it was phenomenon and I remember that final leg against Gary Hall Jr the greatest swimming races I've ever seen. But missiles says look I talk to people who don't really know swimming they know about our own Tippmus well superstardom is superstardom and this is their stage and it's interesting they talk about capitalising on that success it's good you get the sugar hit it's there for a month a couple of months afterwards and then it tapers off drastically when you're no longer in the public consciousness. It's not often you go to the games assume someone's going to win a gold and not since Thorpe has the Australian public just expected it to happen people are banking on Ariane. I don't know if that's true though I can a lot of people expected it with you know probably hack it afterwards certainly but even people like Libby Tricker or Steph maybe not so much Deaf Rice but they're like your Libby Tricker saw you know more recently I don't know there's got to be so like certainly him ever key and I would have thought but he's big big on Ariane on the 400 big this is people need to understand get as excited about Tippmus and the 400 455 am tomorrow morning is when the final is 400 free on day one get as excited about her as you did about Thorpe a bit more friendly and time wise in Sydney of course and it is the game's been in Paris and what he's saying is that well did Thorpe have a rival like Ariane did with Ledecky did Thorpe have the equivalent of a Ledecky. Ledecky five time Olympic gold medalist 14 time world champion triple world record holder Ariane Beter. Thorpe never had the same hurdle to overcome in his 400 he raced Grant who was great but you know he wasn't the super dominant guy I think he did you race he did race felt it felt very young and well before his best. Ledecky was the queen she was the goat of women swimming absolutely smashed everyone before it. So he's saying well if these Olympics were in Sydney the 400 free at night one would be the most box office sporting event of the games I think that's right if this race was Brisbane 32 it would be the race that stops the nation probably probably and like Thorpe she specializes in the 400 and the 200 and Thorpe went back to back 400 freestyle titles in Sydney and Athens if she wins a 400 free she'll join Dorne Fraser as the only I'll see to win back-to-back gold medals that's interesting that's really interesting she goes the 400 and the 200 she'd be the first Australian athlete to win back-to-back double gold and have the most individual gold medals of any athlete same historic opportunity that also awaits by the way Kayla McEwan who's probably not spoken you know backstrokes not a sexy is it that's why she doesn't get mentioned as much as the likes of Ariane but she could be almost dominant olympia and Kayla McEwan both mentally unflappable this is just got to be massive absolutely massive and you know Thorpe Thorpe you know missile actually writes this column because this has got missile all over it mentally as an athlete she is just savage he's talking about tittiness it'll be great and for those who like it'll punt you have to get on now this was his five leg multi in the swimming you can go longer if you want so he's got tittiness in the 400 free Kayla McEwan in the 100 backstroke she cleaned up the 200 you could probably throw that in there sure price molyo Callahan is where the value is he likes molyo Callahan in the 200 free to beat tittness he said tittness got her in the trials but being a sprinter molyo was still tapering so she wasn't quite at her peak she's tapered now for the olympics and reckons she can turn the table and then get the house on the women's four by 100 freestyle relay in the men's four by was it 100 or 200 I should check that too I think four by 200 freestyle relay so have a think about that o four five seven seven three six seven three six have you added Alexander Dumar born July 27th 18 oh so I have not the famous french rider whose dramatic fiction works include the three musketeers the catamonty crystal a Dumar's famous quote the difference between genius and stupidity is genius has its limits it's a great quote paramount thank you for reminding me of that interestingly you mentioned that and you know when they interview sports stars and they go what's your favorite movie and basically add it eight out of ten or so it's the Shawshank Redemption and remember Andy Defrain he lobbied to get funding to reopen the prison library and he's talking to one of his his mates the inmates and the gazar the account of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas and it's it's Dumar it's Dumar that's in my memory of that Mark says Jules I remember as kids in the metal tally which showed the US and Soviets at the top of the 50 plus Goldie who can solve yourself with the fact that we were close to the palm that beat the Kiwi well for a long long time I should check that out now Mark is we pride ourselves on being per capita the best swimming nation good not swimming nation sorry the best Olympic nation so if I go most gold medals per capita Tokyo games I'm going to look google that now most gold medals per capita two generation Francis a country consistently blah blah blah blah uh most six okay top-end sports most successful countries of all time per capita let's have a look number one Bahamas eight gold the population of 389 000 so there you go hungry Finland Bermuda Sweden or New Zealand a Grenada Jamaker and Denmark interesting so they've got us pipped then you go total medals so top ranked team bathed on total medals per million population San Marino's number one they've got three total medals with the population of about 33 000 so there you go Finland hungry so hungry there you go Sweden Bahamas again Denmark Bulgaria Bermuda Norway and Jamaica so Australia not as high up that list as I thought but the only gains we didn't win gold was of course Montreal 76 to shank gold dominated in Munich 72 and Montreal I you know I don't remember it obviously wasn't around when those games happened but my mum always said there was so much pressure Julian so much pressure on 1500 meters swimmer Steve Holland we thought he's going to bring home the gold and I think Steve Holland ended up winning a bronze and phrase at the time so all this won't do this won't do we can't have a proud sporting nation like Australia not coming home with the gold medal from the games and as a result it precipitated the development of the Australian Institute of Sport so there was one good thing to come out of that so there you go but yeah the middle tally you don't funny you they said I'll do it by gold do it by total medals so some will do it by two it's not uncommon so the countries if the total medal counts higher and it bumps them up the list and they'll go oh you're total medals but the official way to measure it is by gold it's always been good by gold and I saw a good tweet actually F1 middle table so this is fascinating so if you're ranked by wins presuming wins of gold medals in the formula one world United Kingdom being on top 312 race wins Germany second with 179 Brazil third with 101 France fourth with 81 Netherlands fifth 61 Finland sixth 57 Australia seventh so Australia have won the seventh most number of Grand Prix Formula on Grand Prix with 44 and think about obviously Brabham and Jones on the bulk of those and then later on Weber Riccardo and now Piastra added to that list Brabham and Jones former world champ it's 44 race wins for Australian drivers ahead of Italy see that's a stunning thing think about Ferrari you know the great emblem of race car driving the prancing horse Italian drivers the 143 Formula one Grand Prix Aussies 144 so there you go Mark talk about punching above your weight in a very Euro centric sport the Aussies seventh on the well if there's an F1 middle table the Aussies would be seventh if race wins were golds so there you have it 045 7 7 3 6 7 3 6 that is the text line number around the grounds we go 22 10 try to Billy kick our 41st minutes are right after half time so the worst possible result for Brisbane they would have gone into the sheds wins in their sale suppose we're down 16 he'll only convert a tri-edit first minute and second half kick out and the left edge bank thanks very much Matt Burton's kick three from Fjall Reynolds one from two at the moment as we continue to go around the grounds an update from the AFL this game almost over I know big surprises are long too good for north Melbourne they lead by 40 points now 15 9 99 to north Melbourne 9 5 59 let's do the late mail while we're at it for the rest of the round so coming up after this game the second of the Saturday Games is between the Cowboys and the Sharks so for the Cowboys Murray Talungi the Queensland origin winger is returning from a hamstring injury he was added to the starting side last night some less positive news though for their forward hill and luke he ruled out with a hamstring strain so the back rower is going to be replaced by Coulee Kefu Finnefoeyarkey who's Dolfin bound next year Tom McCaly out of to the bench now Talungi's return sees Jackson Purgy dropped back to 18th man with Jakey Granville remaining in the extended squad as well for the Sharks Liam Ison who Mitch just mentioned back to him to score a try to know it is set for his annual debut he was selected to replace the suspended Will Kennedy at fullback Siffer Talakite is going to again provide impact off the bench he was named to make his return from suspension on the interchange a second shark will make his debut on Saturday night I heard Brooksey and the Mowers boys talking about this 29 year old Hooker a 29 year old Hooker added to the bench in the 24-hour update isn't that great so it's Siffer Talakite Tobiarov Braden Hamanuella and Jaden Beryl so Royce Hunt initially named a starter prop didn't travel the team due to illness Tommy Hazleton moves from the interchange to the starting size that is the Cowboys and the Sharks 5.30 pm kickoff Queensland country bank stadium Adam G he's the referee Matt Nguyen is the man in the bunker then you got the roosters in the seagull 7.35 pm Joey Marno still a week away in his return from a broken hand they need him they need him in the centers don't they Bondi Jack with Trent Robertson sticking with the same 17 that went down to the storm last weekend a bit of a reshuffle in the forward pack though state of origin rep Spencer Lenu Lindsey Collins shift to the starting side and out to lay the foundation early the roosters one to 17 after last night's update Michael Jennings and Ethan King are the 18th and 19th men Tommy Talao set to return to the wing after a brief move to the center's Lehigh Hoppe-Wade begins a four to six week recovery from a fractured eye socket this is for the Eagles so that reshuffle sees Ben Treboivitch they call him Berber moving to the back line Corio Del into the back row Taniela Paseka also set the start in his second match back from injury and he's recommitted to the club too the Big Bopper he's been good this year and so much so in fact that his name was mentioned as an origin bolter Taniela Paseka no changes 24 hours before kickoff Jamie Humphrey's Clayton Faololo remain on the extended bench so 7.35 pm tonight it is the Chooks and the Sea Eagles actually client is the referee Liam Kennedy who officiated last night's game at Comback Stadium will have the comfort of the bunker tonight tomorrow two o'clock the dragons and the Panthers as mentioned Tyrell Sloan played New South Wales Cup today after being dropped to the reserves listed in a swap with Matt Fino he's been listed as fullback and basically he just wanted him to work on his defensive deficiencies Shane Flanagan so the return of Zach Lomax and Ben Hunt sees Micah Ravelawa and Jesse Marsh keep make way while back rower Raymond Fatala Mariner also good to go after missing the Bronco's game with back spasms his birthday the other day RFM happy birthday to you Luciano Leila shifts to the bench Sloan and Blake Laurie were listed as the two reserves when the squad was trimmed to 19 plays today Jack Bird the man dropping out for the Panthers what a time to get the premiers so the cavalry returns for the penny side to Ivan Cleary's men get lewie Martin top and yo all featuring after sitting out last week's victory no Dylan Edwards as we know he's out for the next month or so with an injury suffered in that origin deciderate troopers he was but gee it's a tough so Dan Laurie is going to be the man deputizing it for back but it's a tough ask for the dragons so he's got this casey McLean to it sentence Jesse's brother really highly regarded these McLean boys Breitor and Jerome Lewis Nathan Cleary and look at this pack you know Leota Kenny Fisher Harris Johnson Martin yo well you never know though you've got to believe and i've got to believe that my dragons being that hungry to make the eight will give them all to tomorrow at two o'clock go you might already read the Jared Sutton is your favorite bond i Jack Jared Sutton Jared Sutton is the referee Casey Badger or not Casey in the bunker senior review official four o five p.m. tomorrow the dolphins and the Gold Coast Titans Wayne Bennett well the super coach has got this luxury of a settled squad this weekend same 17 that defeated the rabbit o's to run out for the Titans showdown Sean O'Sullivan remains the 18th man AJ Brimfins returned from a gory injury for the Titans remains on hold after he was not selected in the extended squad for sunday splash Desi Hasla also made no changes to his round 20 side for the weekend the dolphins and the Titans and Trey Fuller nice to see Trey recommitting to the side even though he was hunted by the Broncos as a potential replacement for christian sailor but he said no love it here at the dolphins i'm going to stick around under the coaching of christian wolf for next season so that match the dolphins and the titans four o five p.m. tomorrow tots mith the referee actually client in the bunker then the final game which you shagga reptile said rabbit o's 13 plus i'm not sure they're going to win 13 plus the raiders and the rabbit o's six 15 p.m. gi o's stadium is going to be chilla willa it is a similar position to four ricki stewardies stuck with the same team that defeated the warriors last week very luckily i might add Adam cooked the 18th man Jamal Fogarty looks to build any second game back from a biceps injury lovely short kicking game Fogarty he helped him enormously last week and the bunnies are going to be without center ritchie kenna he suffered a head knock last week so last week's a michael g camp steps in to fill the void and that reshufflesies jakeb host returned to the back row so the rabbit o's and the raiders six 15 p.m. tomorrow night to wrap up round 21 gio stadium camera white ravened a good young referees have said this bloke and is the referee chris butler is the man in the bunker an update as we go around the ground still 22 points to 10 so the bulldogs with a very handy 12 point lead to converter drives 22 points to 10 and in the AFL at the moment 105 plays 60 jilong 105 over north melbourne 60 western sydney egal heading into the city to watch the chooks manly game should be a cracker hopefully client stays out of it yeah that fingers and toes cross for you western sydney egal best of luck this is a good test for your boys really good test to see exactly where you are because i reckon now if you look at the ladder and i'll just bring it up in front of you very quickly i was chatting to to mike wood a little earlier and he's a manly fan he tries to be as unbiased as possible the storm without they've got the minor premiership zone i've got 36 points panther's 30 sharks 28 rooches 26 eagles 25 so if you knock them off you leapfrog them into the top four and if you want to tilt it the premiership history sees it got to be in the top four so this is a really really big game in the context of that four western sydney egal looking forward to that game tonight 045 77 36 76 the text line number breaking back with more sports hq this saturday afternoon almost out of time here on sports hq this saturday afternoon they're in again the doggies they're in again kind of tracing the 57th minute so 28 points to 10 so 18 is the lead the biggest lead of the game it was what 16 nil wasn't it so they're still 18 minutes left no 32 nil this thing just refreshed in front of me jacob kira 61st minute well this is all going pear shaped in a big way that's got to be the bronco season everything to play for daytime 40 suncorp stadium at home against the dogs team without steven kriton and then they're getting pumped by margin 22 32 10 it's still 18 minutes left in the game so who knows what this score is going to end up as this is really really disappointing from Brisbane really disappointing the AFL full-time a jalon 16 10 106 over north melbourne 10 6 66 buzzers
