Scarface Scarface too Yeah, I mean But I mean She really leaned into that Hispanic Fiery Hispanic woman role Big Danger Her skin color Also darker in this movie Than it is in real life Oh by a lot So you can Google her Google Jeanette Goldstein And you can see what she looks like She does I did that myself And was like That's not the same person Like What? And then sure enough Yeah, so Good for you for pointing that out The Jeanette Goldstein Playing Vasquez Vasquez Is a bit of a stretch She can Mixing a lot of Spanish Like Spanish words in there too Yeah, accent Yeah, yeah Very heavy accent, yeah Okay, moving on Al Matthews plays Sergeant Apone He is great Like just The way he acts Like in terms of Like being a sergeant And leading a military Group Did you look into him at all? No, go ahead Though he is not acting That's too easy He is a bonafide Like I think he is the first black I don't know, I can't I don't know his role in the military But he was like the first black person To be at that level Wow And apparently This movie Along with full metal jacket Were being shot at the same time So apparently him in like Arlie Ermory Would like get together Cause they're both military Like real military guys That's amazing And you could tell You could tell You know, cause it's funny Like watching this movie You listen to him talk And you're sort of like He's overdoing it Like but nope That's it That's how he is He's chewing on that cigar And yep No dude This scene where they Come out of hyper sleep And he immediately puts the Cigar in his mouth is In all time He's just holding it in his hand And like his cryo's Genesis cryo's here The cryo's sleep for like However long they're asleep Like years I think, right? Isn't that the thing? Like and then they Wakes up immediately Classic stuff man Let's see Mark Ralston plays Private Drake, Rico Ross plays Private Frost and Colette Hiller plays Pharaoh The movie written and Directed by James Cameron It's Cameron Avatar, the way of water That's it No other movies now You know, Titanic, Terminator True lies True lies Cameron does have his people That he likes to stick with Like Paxton But I did read something Interesting that And Bane by the way Yeah You know, he was not You know, he was Not that famous Not that famous The other one Michael Bane But uh, you know He just finished doing Terminator And they were shooting For John Connor Sorry And they were shooting this Movie in England It was at some English film studio London, England And all the crew And everyone there Saw didn't see Terminator But they like There was major problems on the set dealing with these British, you know Key grips and gaffers And all those things That it was There were serious problems Going on because they Got to get your gaff You got to get your gaff For an order, man Everybody knows that Oh, promise with the British? Weird How much does the British Suck? That was part of it too Was how all these Fucking Brits needed Their like tea time And would stop working At five o'clock It was five o'clock They were done shooting For the day And I think it was his wife Was on board as a producer In this movie And they in the British Were just going at each other The entire filming Of this movie The only good tea is In a box in the Atlantic Ocean, you know what I'm Saying? Was it the Atlantic Ocean? I forget where they threw That. It was the tea. Okay. Iced tea? Iced tea? Where do your mother? Iced tea? Where do your mother? Did you know What about James Cameron? That he also executive Produced point break? I did not know that. I was not aware of that. I wasn't aware? Nope. He also wrote the screen plays For Alita Battle Angel Mm-hmm. And Rambo First Blood II. Oh. That was one of them. Oh. Still one of my favorite titles, First Blood II. Dude. Dude. Dude. I think Alita Battle Angel Was like a comic too. Robert Rodriguez directed That too. But I think it was a comic. Oh. Olga James. He is winning me back. Oh, First Blood II. Oh, Cammy. Be great if it was T-O-O. Nope. Number two. Oh, my goodness. So knowing what you know About, you know, this movie And sort of the Alien franchise. Did you guys remember That, you know, Ridley Scott Directed the first one? Yep. I didn't know that. I sort of didn't. And that David Fincher Directed the third one. Which... Oh, even though the third one's not. The third one's trash. Yeah. Like Fincher like disowns The third one apparently. You know how to add? And they changed so much While he was shooting it. It had a great cast though too. The one thing you can say About this Alien series Is every movie has solid cast. Really good casting, yeah. And like, Ripley shaved her head. Like that. It was set up for Success Man. Like, that's one I never remember. Because that's, in my eyes, That's the classic scene With her with the shaved head And the little mouth coming out Like right next to her face. And that's, and It's that scene. And in this one at the very end Where she fights the Alien in the big Like excavator road loader. Yeah. Yeah. Those are the two scenes Of all Alien franchise That I really pinpoint on. You love it. It's the classic foreshadowing When for no reason whatsoever They're like, hey, can I help? I can use this loader. I'm a class too. Like, okay. Yeah. They're all like super impressive. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. It's like Wayne's world when they're like, Boy, that seems like a lot of information For a security guard to have, doesn't it? Yeah. Which, by the way, listener, It's your movie next week. World two. Second. Second, Wayne's world Reference in about two minutes. Yeah. Several days, you mean? In several days. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So this movie. Set. Was it 57 years? 47 years, I believe she was in the cryos. 47 years after the first one ended. The Nostromo incident where, you know, We all know the story of the first alien. And so I found it interesting that it's, It's literally just like a continuation. Like usually in sequels, It's like a completely new storyline or whatever, But they like, they go back. And the same place is they, you know, They have a colony set up and they're terraforming And doing all this stuff like that's, That's kind of out there. Like I like it. Like I said, it helps that you stipulate it by saying, Oh, she's been asleep for 47 years, Where it is technically a continuation, But you could fill in anything now with, You know, 50 years worth of anything. Like I said, they built an entire complex there for terraforming. They did not decide to do the Austin Powers thing. Where when he gets unfrozen, He has to take a piss for like 30 minutes. You know, can't walk, you know, all that stuff. You know what they do do in this series though? Yeah, with Sigourney is. There's a lot of scenes with her in like these smallest panties In no bra, just cruising. That's 80s though, baby. That's 80s though, right? Oh my God. Because that's just 80s. That's the first one too. Yeah, they did that in the first one too. Yeah, they established that in the first one. So you got to like Cameron's right in this movie, man. You got to deliver on a few things, right? Lost recipes is the kids say. We don't do that now. No, no, we have too much respect for women now. But they also, well, because, you know, it's set in the future. They don't, they don't sexualize any of it. You know, all of the email and then they all changing, sleeping together all this and their underwear. And they don't sexualize anything in these movies. Yeah, I think the only thing was when, like, Paxton asked Vasquez, like, "Do you ever get mistaken for a man?" And she said, "Do you?" Yeah. Good. That's a good line. Good line, man. Do you, do you essay? That's probably a word. Dude. You homes? Dude. By the way, Paxton's character is, like, an art in overacting. Like, it is so good. Like, we're all going to fucking die, man. Like, what are we doing, man? He might be the greatest actor ever of being that, like, snively scared person. I mean, same person, he wasn't true lies. I mean, that's so good. That's why he's so good at it. We got no fucking chance, man. We're totally dead, man. Like, it's incredible. That was, but that was what made him so great and twister as he was so positive. Like, he was, he was a loose cannon. He was a loose wire. He's so good. Wild card. Oh, man. So, a lot of Reeboks in this movie. But it's like, speaking of Wings World 2, by the way. Wings World 2. Yeah, I know. It all goes back to Wings World 2. Oh, like the, like, for no reason at all. There's Reebok in this movie. It is, it is the only brand, even fake. Like, there's no fake brands in this. Like, Reebok is the only brand in this movie. And it's their twice. Is this, is this in the Demolition Man universe where Taco Bell won the fast food wars? Did Reebok win the Apparel Wars? Apparel Wars then? They must have. Well, no, like, because, because like she says a date, right? Is this set in a timeline? Because, because I remember she says like back in '87 or whatever we did this. Like, is that like 1987? Like, I don't know. I don't know when the Alien universe. And I don't remember the date on it either. The timeline for it. Yeah. It's alternative universe. Like, I don't know. We should know that, right? We weren't, you know, cruising around space in '87. Yeah. Yeah, space. Get over yourself. Yeah. There's nothing there for you. Yeah. No, it's just, there's just aliens that, you know, suck under your face and lay eggs and bust out of your chest. That's all to space. The only thing worse is Brits in space. Oh my God. Because you know what? That's, that's the, uh, synths. The synths. For whatever reason, they're all British, man. And they're all in the month. They're in space. Someone throws the white album on vinyl. I'm offing myself. I'm, I'm tearing the mask off and letting the atmosphere do its worst. Well, apparently there's the terraforming did a great job on that planet because they just rolled in with no helmets or anything. No helmets. Yeah. I don't remember. By the way, like, opening the, uh, the airlock. Like your arms are ripped off of your body. Yeah. Like you were gone. And by the way, like little girl hanging on. And little girl and Hendrix with half a body. Half a body. And we, we talk about the synths. Why is synths blood just come? It's, it's like, why, it could be any color Cameron. Why does it have to be fucking splooge colored? They're young. Come on, man. Young, dumb and full of it. Just looking for someone to match his freak. You know? Yes, my God. You know, classic one, blue, blue is a great blood for synthetic. But no, but we would have watched that and been like, that's blue Tom. That's alien Tom. That's alien Tom. And you know, like to your point, they're like, remember when Ripley first learned that he was a synth when they were like eating. He had some like on his finger and he was like rubbing it together all weird. Yeah. It was a little, was there a little tackiness to it too? Yeah. Yeah. That is borderline erotic. My God. Yeah. He's like, do you like what you see? Like get him out of here. He's like rubbing his jizz everywhere, man. Oh my gosh. Okay. I have a, like a PSA for everybody listening to this who like, if you are, if you're into the alien universe, um, there's a video game called alien isolation. Um, that is very much along these lines into it's like a, you're, you're, you're all by yourself and you are in this like facility trying to get through it. And like there are these alien creep, the aliens or the xenomorphs are like in the vents and stuff. And if they catch you, you die. Like you just die. And so the whole point is like avoiding having them see you. And it has like those motion tracker things that you use with the little beeps and stuff. And they get like quicker as it gets closer and you got to hide into all this shit. It is a fantastic. So you're like metal, you're like metal, you're a solid. You're like trying to hide and like in cardboard boxes. In cardboard boxes. Yeah. You're not, not just like you don't have the awesome guns that Vasquez and that other guy have that like, no, no, has a little swivel arm on it, which is awesome. You do have weapons, but like it's one of those games where your ammo is really limited. And so you have to watch how often you use it and stuff. It's like a scary game and it's really fun. So just FYI, if you're a gamer and you like this universe, it's because it's got synths in it too. Like it's, it's pretty cool. Lots of, lots of nods to the cool parts about these series. Well, do you guys like the alien universe? Because outside the first two movies, I don't know how to share about any of them. No. Oh, right. It's like I've, I've seen them like the recent one with the media. So is that one of them? Yeah. It had like Idris Elba and yeah. What's his face in it? The, uh, let's be real black people are going into space. We're not letting them. We're not letting them. We've done it. He was on them. They had, they had one, they had one black guy in the, you want to let them vote. He was, he was in charge. He was, you know, had got, he had, had guy though, but. Wait, wasn't Charlize and Prometheus too? As I've seen it, I don't care that watch any of the other, no, it was, it wasn't awful. It just, it wasn't like these, like I think the cool thing about these is you don't know what's going to happen from one moment to the next, like you are very much along for the ride. Like Ripley is a bad ass. Like Ripley is a bad ass, but even Ripley is like terrified and knows that if anybody slips up, they're dead, like instantaneously. Um, but yeah, is she the first lead, like strong lead woman in a movie, like in, in an action movie, let's say also like this. Cause I mean, I guess it was a terminator, this was a woman erasure. Linda Carter. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But that was kind of. It was more cheesy, right? Boy camping. Yeah. Okay. That's fair. Old Batman level of cheese. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe, right? Yeah. I think like, so James Cameron sort of has a thing for that too, right? Like Sarah Connor and you know, the way he sort of evolved the Ripley character in this movie too. Like Rose killed Jack. Yeah. Cause Ripley, cause remember Ripley in the first one, like it was a lot of like sort of figuring out what the hell was going on and then hiding and just trying not to get killed, which was really awesome. Like don't get me wrong, but in this movie, she's like getting armed to the teeth and like laying into like, like using a flamethrower to kill all the eggs and a grenade launcher to blow up the Queen's like sack thing or whatever, which by the way, like is, is the slurms in a Futurama, if you've ever seen Futurama, it's it's, it's exactly that. Yeah. I agree. The first one was kind of more survival. The second one kind of turned a little more into like Starship troopers on the military aspect and just. In all the best ways, I think. Yes. I'm going to say, don't say that is the bad thing. Yeah. I'm not saying anything bad about Starship, I'm not saying anything bad about Starship troopers in general. You better watch yourself. Rico's fucking Roughnecks all day. Watch yourself, McCoy. Paul Reiser, like, I know we mentioned him earlier, like legitimately one of the most hateable characters in a movie, I think, like he is like he's a douchebag. Like, I think they did a good job of he's he's a bureaucrat. That's all he is. Well, he's trying to get to be a bureaucrat. Yeah. Like he like he's not like, yes, he's, you know, employed by the company or whatever, but he's not like high up. He's trying to become high up and if he brings one of these things back, then, you know, the face huggers, you know, thanks. Have you heard about the comic book that is coming out for Paul Reiser's character? Oh, God. No, I'm not. So Paul Reiser and his son and like a couple other people too, there's like actually some pretty like talented people who are working on it too. They wrote a artist like artist wise or they wrote a what if story where it's what happened to Burke after he sort of like goes in the room and the door closes because the assumption is he immediately dies. But the what if comic book is what if he survives because I guess tech, they don't go into that room. They go into the vent. Yeah. So I guess you never, you never see Burke dead. Yep. And so the comic proposes that he lives and gives some more backstory. And I think Reiser's, Reiser's whole deal is like, yeah, he wasn't actually that bad of a guy, you know, there's, there's a little that's very tried to kill a woman in a child. A child. All three of us. Yeah, automatic. Want to know what? We haven't said that line in a bit. I guess you could say that. That's mental. Fucking terrible. Fucking. I embarrassed for us. Child. Come on. It's a great life. That's Cameron movie too. It is. It is. It is. Can't alert. You know. Still never seen Titanic by the way. Oh, you need to see. Well, I can't believe it tricks leads now, but do I though? No. No. No. No. No. Sorry. What are we going to say? I was going to say, I think I'm going to pass on the Burke side story comic of this. I think I'm good on that. You know, I'm a big comic guy. I don't think I'm going to be dropping the 20 bucks on that guy. Oh, we're good. Oh boy. Let's see. Get away from her. You bitch is a classic line. So when Ripley comes out in the in the loader. Get away from her. You bitch. Not very feminist ever. I'm trying to knock and trying to knock another woman down. It's to support the queen, right? Like what's going on here? Queen on queen crime. I also liked the line when Gorman and Vasquez die. What does what does she say? Like you always were an asshole. Yeah. Yeah, that was good. Gorman a little bit of redemption because he spent the first half of the movie being like a whiny little sissy and then he ends up. I mean, I guess he saved Ripley and Newt by blowing up the. And Bean, that was those three that were left. Yeah. Cause Hicks lives. Yeah. Well, that's the only my only knock on this movie is that, you know, Bean gets acid on him and he's all banged up and knocked out in the ship. And you know, I always like movies where like everyone dies. But they never really, they, he's in the ship. Yeah. And then the next time, the last time in the only time you see him is he's in one of the cryo pods, like all bandaged up. It's like you could have had him come out there all fucked up and help or do something. It's like it kind of just got rid of that care for the final 20 minutes. Yep. Without killing him. You know, I will say like there was some light flirting between those two, but they did not have like they didn't shoehorn like a love angle at all. And I like, I really like that about like, cause in the first one and this one, I really like that. Everything was kind of asexual between everyone. I like that. Like they didn't fucking like, because in the 80s, especially that's like what every movie had to be about. Well, like I said female lead now, if this was, this was a short Schwarzenegger, which side note, apparently they were in talks with Cameron to make the second one and she wanted a bunch of money and the studio did not want to pay her a bunch of money. So he did some, you know, called up Schwarzenegger saying, Hey, you want to be the lead in the second alien and the studio got wind of it and buckled and paid to gourney the money she was owed. Fantastic. Like I said, it's a female lead. She needs to be one of the crazy. She's not going to be someone else's love interest. They would need to be her love interest somehow. So it's, well, as a scrap it, if that's the thing, like the, the Bechdel test, I think it's called where like a, if a movie passes the Bechdel test, it, it has it like any scene with a woman talking that is not about a man. And so that's the thing. Like if you pay attention to movies, like if the female characters are talking and they're not talking just about a man or a relationship with a man or trying to get with a man or whatever, then it passes the Bechdel test or something like that, because apparently most movies don't. And that's kind of not ideal. But again, this movie like, you know, women empowerment, like 1986, like this is a big that's like, that's what I was saying. I don't know. Like is she considered an icon must be guys. I'm Ripley's got to be considered like a female icon, right? Ripley. This is an iconic character. Yes. Believe it or not. What? You're fired. You're fired. You're fired. That Ripley is very talented also. This guy doesn't say anything for five minutes and then comes in with believe it or not. Ripley is such an iconic character that they had a, Ripley is such an iconic character. And they had to make an entire movie called the talented Mr. Ripley to try to knock her down. Yeah. We had to knock her down a bit. Like you think you can ask for this much money, talented Mr. Ripley. We're going to get Matt Damon. Matt Damon. Oh boy. So yeah, like there, because the Alien series has really like, because there's another one coming out soon. It has gone like all over the place, you know, like, because it's, it started out with these like two fantastic movies and then three came out and I haven't seen three in a while. It might not be that and probably just got a little cheesy because yeah, in a money grab more. So I think the three have Winona Ryder or is that the one I know? Winona Ryder and Ron Perlman and like I said, it's a great cast to it. So it's, it's not, it's not a bad movie. It's just not in the stratosphere of the other two movies. Give me Ron Perlman all day. Ron, man. I just, I just don't know the time. It was, was the next and Prometheus, yeah, but what's the next alien thing to come out? Was that alien versus, versus predator? He was, was that the first, was that the next alien, you know, next time you saw an alien was that which I saw that in the theater, folks. And so, yeah. Did you guys see alien versus predator? Is that like Adrian Brody, is he in that or is he in the, he was in predators. Yeah. You're thinking of a predator movie. Right. I am probably thinking of a predator movie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. See. Alien versus predator was 2004 and starred Sonia Lathan or Sanaa Lathan. That's who I was trying to remember. And basically nobody else. It had Bishop. I like the movie poster was AVP. Yeah. That was a great tech. Great. Great for it. It didn't have the two, had the alien and the predator, like face facing. Alien on top. I think predator down below is kind of white with the silverish, you know, it was great. It was, yeah. Too bad. Yeah. I don't think it was very good. Nope. I actually forgot that like aliens, this one was well, like well received. Yeah. I had everything was from three up or, you know, to current and I was like, Oh, shit. Damn. Oh, it was a good movie and it was well received and I thought the thing, because it's been so long side seen it, I really thought it was like, oh, widely panned. No, like, like ski said, when we first started. This might be like the, the only series of movies other than Dark Knight, where like the, the sequel is like vastly better than the rest of them, like. And the first one's still very highly rated and considered very good. It's still good. Yeah. It's not bad. This is one of the ones where the sequels better. Yeah. This is actually better. Yeah. And that's that is saying a lot because the first one is really good and like I had more, well, this clearly had more money involved. I mean, the first one is set purely just on that ship, very kind of low budget field. This had big, you know, they had money for explosions, explosion, you know, just huge sets and stuff. And it was like, yeah, a lot by the way, James Cameron, too, by the way, like Terminator two, better than the first Terminator by a lot, avatar wave, water, better than the first average Titanic two, boy, Titanic two, Jack's revenge search for the search for more icebergs, the search for Jack, yeah, everything should be legend of Curly's gold, Titanic two. Oh, man. Oh, Jack, Alex, you saved this nation. All right, all right, we should probably think about grading this soon. Um, what should we make it out of? Um, how many movies are in the alien series? I'm going to say five. So let's make it. Five this week. Yeah. Seems like a good number. There might actually be five. I don't know. Well, if you, if you take into the hybrid, like AVPs and stuff, I think there's two of those. Oh my God. Are there really the search for more money? Um, all right, uh, let's see. So yes, this is my movie. So I will go first. I'm going to give it a four point five. Who? Yeah. It's not like a perfect movie, but it's damn near close. I think, I think like, you know, God man, it's 1986, like I was just about to like bad mouth. We're on top of the world. Yeah. I'm like, yeah. Like the strawberry bill Simmons was on top of the world watching the Celtics. Right. What a time. I was just about the bad mouth, like the special effects and stuff, but it's 1986. Like this is incredible for me. And they thought Robert Parrish was good. Yeah. Yeah. Kevin McHale, a gangly white guy, Michael Cooper, the dream. And the special, even now, they didn't look that bad. There was something that looked like, all right, that's, they just didn't have the technology to do some things, but they looked pretty good. Great. I'm going to give it a four out of five. Nice. I really liked it. I was surprised. Yeah. I thought it was, I thought it was bad. Right. Uh, I'm, especially that it's a seat. I'm giving it a five. Oh, yeah. My man. This is ultimate 80s action movie that's very well done. Okay. Great cast. Really well written, really well directed, like up there is in terms of James Cameron's best as well, like, and that's, I think that's saying a lot. You guys might not. Oh, it definitely is this in T two really are the, in my eyes at Cameron Titanic to go to fly in the search for Jack. Yeah.
Braga, King, and Ski talk Aliens, a movie set nearly 60 years after the first one, which introduced face huggers and xenomorphs to the world. James Cameron took the helm and turned Ripley into a gun slinger. Is it any good? Listen!
