They had a big week, they got some big news that we can get into in just a second. And who knows where the Motor City Machine Guns end up. This may be the last independent show for Alex Shelley in a long time. And he's a guy that Pro Wrestlers say is the best pro wrestler in the world. Then, Paul, out of Oregon, UPW from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They just featured the Vampire Warrior himself, Gangrel, Show Me State Wrestling, a new edition, Central States Wrestling, Fountain City Pro, and Pro South Wrestling out of Georgia, all available, all on Wrestling Spotlight. And that's just some of them. I'm missing a couple of per city versus, there's so much wrestling out there. And it's all really good content. Right before we started, I talked with Slammer, who's getting ready to make his debut at Show Me State Wrestling. Did you think that this was out there when you got in to do in the podcast? Because I honestly didn't know. I kind of fell into it because I was doing a sales training podcast using wrestling cliches and got into working with the guys at Central States and then realized, man, the territories are back. Yeah, I mean, never my wildest dreams that I think that we would be doing what we were, you know, what we're doing now. When we started the show, we really didn't have a plan. It was just, you know, he was one person I knew that really enjoyed talking wrestling. We had always had great conversations. So we said, "Hey, let's put some microphones in front of us and just see what happens." You know, as we began to meet wrestlers coming up and, you know, doing interviews, it's kind of just been a real snowball effect. But what we're seeing in independent wrestling right now is so refreshing and, quite frankly, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there's a new regime in WWE. You know, the fact that they are now forming these partnerships, you know, WWE with TNA right now allow our accounts to go to Japan, you know, Cree brothers, Shayna Baszler, they're working blood sport. You know, these opportunities are not trickling down if WWE isn't opening the door and saying, "Hey, this is what people can do." You know, AEW, because they don't have a performance center facility or an NXT, and only so much television time to go around, there are wrestlers that are taking those weekend bookings on the indies, and that, because we're seeing this, the fact that, you know, you said best, you never know where somebody is going to show up. I mean, Alex Shelley is going to be at Absolute Intense Wrestling next Thursday night in Cleveland for SummerSlam. We'll be there in the third row watching what could be the last Motor City Machine Guns Independent match for a very long time. But, yeah, no, it's super exciting to see what's happening right now. There's room for everybody in this business, and I think that we're finally, you know, at that realization and that realization to understand. Yeah, and I think another thing that's really opened it up is the fact that you can produce your TV show for your territories and get it distributed, get it on a channel like Wrestling Spotlight, release it onto YouTube, and there's an audience for these shows too. So you're building up your, you're building up your audience and given the reality of the world of wrestling right now, on any given day, your match may well be watched by somebody in WWE in AEW. Maybe they need somebody for a Ring of Honor show. Shazza Mackenzie, who has been a repeat guest here on Wrestling Spotlight, she just debuted on TNA Wrestling. She's only been in the US for a year and she's already been on TNA and, you know, the heartbreak or maybe showing up soon as a regular on TNA and she's been on AEW as well. So those doors are opening up and literally any match is your opportunity to get seen by somebody. Yeah, no, couldn't agree more. I mean, we were at Scenic City Invitational about two weeks ago down in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and, you know, not only that tournament, but also the action wrestling futures tournament. You know, these, this is, you know, probably one of the biggest weekend in independent wrestling. I mean, you know, Matt Riddle has won that tournament. Uh, last year's futures winner, what Jay Malekai is now, Javon Evans, main event at NXT, you know, Heatwave, a couple of months ago. It's, it's, it's wild how, you know, tournaments like these and just being in the right place at the right time can lead to these opportunities. So, you know, there, people should, you know, should not be sleeping on, on independent wrestling right now because with what WWE is doing, what are, what, our race and AEW are doing, you know, you know, you're going to be, you know, you're going to be going to be in the right place, you know, you're going to be in the right place, you're going to be in the right place, you're going to be in the bloodline would last four years, we certainly didn't think that there would be potentially a fifth year of the bloodline, or a sixth where we're going right now, so no, this is good for everybody. How about the actual world heavyweight title? Damian praised against the ring general Gunther, Gunther, we talked earlier with Sonny the Man Eagle Kane about Gunther being the ultimate condescending smug, you know, just jerk heel, telling Damian praised Hey, this title's above you, you're beneath it, let me take it off, let me take the weight off you, just give me the title. I mean, it just makes people instantly hate them, right? And the best thing is a little bit of truth to it because it hasn't been an inspiring heavyweight run for Damian, praised. Yeah, and that's super disappointing because, you know, he's very clearly outgrown Judgment Day and he's, you know, he and Rhea are getting those babyface reactions, you know, this is still much better than the Damian Priest that we saw first debut in NXT. I was not a fan. I really wasn't a fan of Damian Priest until he joined the Judgment Day and seeing what potentially Edge might do with him. And then when they swerved and kicked Edge out, bring Finn Balor in, they've only matured from there. And that's where we've really kind of seen him shine as a character. So yeah, I was excited to see what we would get with this title reign. It hasn't, it hasn't been bad. It's just, it feels like it could have been a lot better than it was. And I can't help but wonder how much of that might have had to do with the Rhea injury and having to reshuffle kind of what happens with the storytelling here and, you know, maybe keeping him with Judgment Day longer than they might have planned to. You know, I certainly did not think that we would be getting Priest versus going through SummerSlam. I assumed it would be Priest versus Balor. Well, well, they had that weight though from the King of the Ring, give that a little bit more significance. And good, they're kind of just, you disappear for a little bit, you know, probably get a little rest, kind of get a lot of bit. But I think they've done a really good job of firing it back up and making this a significant match. Yeah, no, they absolutely have the pull apart brawl is perfect. I mean, that that's just a storytelling technique that gets everybody excited, especially it's one that you can come back to throughout the show like we saw on Monday night and they played it perfectly. This is going to be a physical match and, you know, hopefully there are no major catastrophic incidents involving Priest. He's kind of been snakebit in that respect. So really hoping that, you know, they just just deliver a just a flight at this point. How do you feel about the Rhea Ripley Live Morgan? John Mysterio and now Jay Uso get involved quadrangle. I really enjoy the story still. I know that the Internet's divided, you know, kind of based on Live's promo, the presentation, you know, as far as that segments the other night. But this is great. You know, this is, you know, with WWE going to Netflix, we know that, you know, the governor is kind of off as far as having to worry about a PG rating anymore. You know, given Netflix, it's just kind of you can do whatever you want. I mean, within reason, obviously, but yeah, yeah. You know, we had to, we should have expected that they might, you know, try to see what, you know, let's test some things out here on cable television because we know that, you know, within the next year, this time next year, there really aren't going to be, you know, those hard limits that may have been set by, you know, like that may have been set by USA. So I don't blame them for wanting to incorporate a little bit more of this just to, you know, give the product some edge. You know, even though, you know, some people have criticism of the, of the Liv Morgan side of this angle and compared to the Divas division, the Divas division wasn't getting a 10 p.m. segment for 10, 15 minutes where everybody gets the chance to shine, deliver promo and show their range. I mean, Liv, when we break down that scene, you know, she goes from admiration and lust to pure sadness like that. And the split screen juxtaposition was brilliant because you're watching it in real time and, and, you know, kudos to whoever her acting coach is because on a dime, she, you know, has, you know, delivered that sadness that will advance this story. Ultimately, I, I, I think that Ria is about to get her heart broken. That's unfortunate, but, you know, these are, these are story telling themes and elements that we see in other shows on, on cable TV. And no one really questions those. They question it in the world of wrestling, which doesn't make any sense because, you know, the same people that are probably criticizing the story, you know, probably like some of those, you know, romantic elements in other other scripted TV shows. And that's exactly what this is. Sure. Yeah. I mean, it's, and it is a lot different than the DVA era because they're getting to talk and that didn't happen. They were there to be seen, not heard. A guy who's been seen and heard now, Brown Breaker, does he win the Intercontinental title? Is this the end for the Sami Zayn reign? I think that it is. I mean, it's SummerSlam. It's the second biggest show of the year. And they're very clearly big on Brown Breaker. I think that this is the time that you pull the trigger because, you know, at this point, he's lost one or two title matches against Sami already, that if he loses a third, you know, it doesn't completely destroy his credibility, but it is going to make you raise an eyebrow as far as what they realistically have planned for him. And the crowd is just so, so behind him that, I mean, I think now is, now is the time. I would agree it is. Yeah. I mean, I think it is. And let's talk about the other secondary title because that's going to be decided at SummerSlam as well. It's Logan Paul Tomtown, Cleveland, Ohio. That up against L. A Knight. Yeah. And L.A. Knight, man. I mean, he's been since the rebirth, right? Since dropping the Max Dupree character. He's been at the top of the card. The Mega Star has been a prominent player, especially on SmackDown. But every opportunity he's had to take home a title, he's lost. And is it to the point where he needs to win? Because you can't just always be chasing at some point. You need to win something. Yeah. He needs to win. And I think that he will win when we were in Ford Field last last year, we were not happy that L.A. Knight was in the Slim Jim battle royal. We just weren't. The pop for L.A. Knight, if people have not experienced it in person, you need to. It's just something that you have to experience. But in hindsight, being in 2020, this is basically a year long story arc of starting that title run in that championship credibility for L.A. Knight started with Slim Jim battle royal and getting the Slim Jim sponsorship. Yeah, he came up short against Roman Reigns on two separate occasions, which is okay. Roman was in the middle of a meteoric historic run that will likely not be topped anytime soon. People were upset that L.A. Knight wasn't getting the U.S. title match at WrestleMania. But he got a one-on-one match with AJ Styles, who even at 47 is still one of the best on the planet and won. So, you know, it's kind of that shoe for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. He may not have won the world title here, you know, but I think that if he settles into this make card role and certainly, you know, defends the title more than the two times that Logan Paul has, they can get him ready for a title run when they're ready to. You know, we don't really know what the plan is for Cody in the bloodline and the undisputed WWE championship. But if L.A. Knight has a great one run with the United States title and next year draft time, he can find himself on Monday Night Raw and immediately in that title picture. Oh, absolutely. Now, since you mentioned it, I don't see Solace Kolo winning. I think Cody Rhodes holds on. Do you think we see the return of the true tribal chief? Does Roman Reigns make his reappearance? There's been reports that he's been training, he's been working out. It's time, right? I think that it is. This is, I mean, this is probably the largest question about SummerSlam. One of the two, I think, will Roman Reigns show up and will we see anything that kind of jump starts the John Cena retirement tour a few months early? That's true. WrestleMania to SummerSlam. That that's an appropriate period of time off. In this case, I think if we hadn't seen the debut of Jacob Fatu, Tomatanga, Tonga Loa, had we not seen those three kind of form this new bloodline, then I think that, you know, Roman would probably hold off a little bit longer. I think our first initial thoughts after WrestleMania were stay away until the rumble. You don't need to be on TV for the rest of 2024 if you don't want to be, and if they don't have anything for you. But the fact that we have this new story now, the fact that all Haman has been written off of television in the manner that he was, I think that Roman Reigns comes back just to remind everybody who really is boss. And I think that if we're building up to this match with Solo and likely something inside War Games, I think between now and Survivor Series, he's got a much like Jey Uso experienced over on Monday Night Raw. Roman's got to go through that road to redemption too. I mean, he's wrong so many people over the last four years that people are going to be reluctant to trust him again. He's going to take that time to certain trust back and I think we'll see the culmination of that at the Survivor Series inside War Games. And I think if he does come back, he's almost instantly one of the top faces in the company because people still love Roman Reigns. I mean, the response you got, even though the response for Cody winning at WrestleMania was overwhelming, there were plenty of people. But he ended up the one in acknowledging Roman too. He had 24 hours later. Yeah, 24 hours later, he was getting the We Want Roman Chance. It's, I mean, we knew that we would get those. We just didn't think that we would get them the next night. Yeah, absence makes the heart grow fun. Yeah. What other matches are you excited for? Are you looking forward to seeing? You're going to be there in person at Cleveland Brown Stadium. Yes, I think I've got the code just saved right here if I can find it. I mean, just in general, I am always excited to be at these shows. Sure. Yeah, I forgot about this one. Bailey and Nia Jax for the Women's Championship and the layer of Tiffany Stratton as Miss Money in the Bay. She's got a briefcase. Yeah, this is another one of those, you know, as far as speaking about Bailey, this is one of those title runs that also was a little lackluster. You know, it's great that you got the rumble in the WrestleMania moment, but they didn't necessarily have a number of challengers lined up for her ready to go. Which does does her a disservice as far as trying to rebuild that women's championship division because towards the end that that damage control experiment just fell flat. I mean, you could say the same thing about Eos title run as well. But Nia Jax, since she has come back, I mean, she is she's blown everybody away. My podcast dad was not a Nia Jax fan, definitely was not a fan of her involvement. And then I think the fatal four way at crown jewel last year and he was just kind of, you know, I'm, I'm done with her. But Queen of the ring. She has, you know, taken to this character and has her head in the clouds and you know, teaming up with Tiffany Stratton is just a great look. I think that Nia Jax walks out with the women's championship here at SummerSlam. She certainly earned it. Yeah, I agree. She has the irresistible force and you can't teach big. She's got that. He refused to quit, even after getting doused with gasoline while the crazy guy was holding a lighter. Yeah, the young thoughts. So that that was admirable. That was a great return. And he won the social media by posting a picture with Drew McIntyre who happened to be in the arena. So the two guys who were wronged are teaming together across universes. It's a multiverse of wrestling, so I'm going to go with this. The former jungle boy, the scapegoat Jack Perry, go with the Mad Dragon, Elliott Dragonoff, both great choices.
