Mike Moore Media, the first place to hear Rocky County News and Information. News is sponsored by Lane's Family Pharmacy and Home Health Care. For the City of Eden, future growth to the south will be a lot easier thanks to a deal with Rocky County. In a special call meeting last week, City Council approved an agreement for the county to replace a pump station at Harrington Highway and bore under the river to expand sewer lines. It's being paid for with a $3 million state grant. Eden is obligated to pay a maximum of up to $800,000. Mayor Neville Hall, in his monthly podcast exclusively on Mike Moore Media, said plenty of land developers are interested in the south side of the river. And this is an opportunity to grow, maybe not immediately, but in the future. In that special meeting, three councilmen voted no. Bruce Noe, Kenny Kirkman, and Tommy Underwood. Mayor Hall cast the deciding vote for the sewer line extension. Here's an update on plans to install a roundabout in Uptown Eden at Washington Street, Boone Road, and King's Highway, lots of utilities need to be relocated. No buildings will be disturbed. NCDOT says it will enhance traffic flow. Work on the roundabout should begin in early 2025. The Eden community is mourning the laws of visionary Homer Wright Jr. He died last week at 99. After graduating from Leaksville High School, attending Mars Hill College, Virginia Poly Technic Institute, and UNC Chapel Hill in serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, his passion for residential and commercial real estate development laid the groundwork for many of the early homes and businesses in the Tri-Cities, and he played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Leaksville spray and draper. He created St. James, a coastal plantation community and incorporated town of about 5000 in Brunswick County. He was also a community leader serving in the NC House of Representatives and on numerous boards and committees involving education, health care, and economic development, and recently was named Eden Citizen of the Year. A celebration of life for Homer Wright Jr. is planned for September 20th, which would have been his 100th birthday at St. James. The mayor of Danbury recently died. Janet Witt had served eight consecutive terms, first elected in 2009, and she operated Witt's furniture gallery in King. Today, we're putting out a vibrant smile and indulging in a culinary classic. This National Lipstick Day Lipstick has been a symbol of beauty and fashion for centuries. Did you know that the first known use of lipstick dates back about 5,000 years ago? Both men and women used crushed gemstones to adorn their lips and eyes. Fast forward to the 16th century. Queen Elizabeth I popularized a striking red lipstick made from beeswax and plant-based eyes. However, in the 1700s, lipstick fell out of favor in England and was even considered scandalous. It wasn't until the early 20th century that it regained its status thanks in part to Hollywood actresses. Today, lipstick is a staple in mini-makeup bags, offering a quick way to add a pop of color and confidence to any look. It's a good thing you didn't live in the 1700s. I could never. I love my lipstick. You'd have been considered scandalous. I'm already a concinder, scandalous. I guess that's true. From Beauty to the Kitchen, it's also National Azania Day. This beloved Italian dish with its layers of pasta-rich sauce and gooey cheese. As a history as layered as its ingredients, the earliest written recipe for lasagna can be found in an ancient Greek text in the 1st century AD called "Lionon." It was quite different from the lasagna we know today, but it laid the groundwork for this dish's evolution. In the Middle Ages, lasagna took a more familiar form with layers of pasta and cheese becoming a staple for Italian cuisine. So whether you're enjoying a traditional meat lasagna or a vegetarian twist, you're tasting a piece of culinary history that's been perfected over millennia. Oh my goodness, stop saying the word. A lasagna. One of my favorite foods. I even love the word lasagna. Yeah, it's a great word to say, right? Sign me up, please, and I'd like some more. You ordered lasagna and I'll grab some lipstick. That's a great idea. I'm Latoya Johnson. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. Until next time, keep celebrating. Oh, hey, we don't want to miss this. Green, green, it's green they say, on the far side of the hill. Green, green, I'm going away to where the grass is. The greener still. I told my mom on the day I was born, don't you cry when you see I'm gone. There ain't no woman going to settle me down, I just got a bit to travel at all. A second, green, green, it's green they say, on the far side of the hill. Green, green, I'm going away to where the grass is. The greener still. There ain't nobody in this whole wide world are going to tell me how to spend my time. I'm just a good love and rambling man, say buddy, can you spare me a dime? Here we cry and it's a green, green, it's green they say, on the far side of the hill. Green, green, I'm going away to where the grass is. Yeah, I don't care when the sun goes down, where I lay my weary head. Green, green, ballet or rocky road, it's there, I'm going to make my bed easy. Yeah, green, green, it's green they say, on the far side of the hill. Green, green, I'm going away to where the grass is. The greener still. Everybody, I want to hear it now. Green, green, it's green they say, on the far side of the hill. Green, green, I'm going away to where the grass is. The greener still. The greener still. The greener still. The greener still. The greener still. Oh yeah, that's a good one to sing along with. A good way to start the week. The New Christi Minstrels, founded in 1961, has sold millions of albums and they're still performing.
