Friday that means the weekend it's right around the corner Eric Carpenter with you this is KCBL KCRK. Some extra people here in Caulville this week a Grange convention. It's been happening at the Ag Trade Center. It originally said not to be open to the public but there will be an opportunity for the public to go down and look at some of the winning displays. We talked with the Washington State Grange president Tom Gwen got an update on how the convention is going. I'm Tom Gwen I am the president of the Washington State Grange and we have our annual state session it rotates around the state. The last time we were in Caulville was 2008 and when we were looking for a location in this eastern district the people from the Stevens County area thought that Caulville would be appropriate and made the important contacts with your fair manager and we decided to have our convention here in Caulville this year. We have approximately 200 delegates between 350 and 400 people in town for the week and we will be here finishing up our business on Sunday. We are using this week to set our legislative policy and the future direction of the Grange on a statewide basis. We talked about a lot of internal issues with Grange law and Grange activities and then it will be all of the external topics. We have 44 resolutions presented to us from Grange's from throughout the state and this year our biggest committee is the Transportation Committee dealing with transportation issues a lot of electric cars rail issues and that type of thing will be up for discussion as we get into our business. Moving into the fair season the emergence especially in this part of the state on the Grange Youth Fairs program which Stevens County was the first county that came on board and we have a lot of kids in the Grange that show their animals and their other events. On Saturday we will have our statewide Grange Livestock judging contest which is similar to what you see in the other youth organizations and we have kids from coming from across the state comparing their knowledge with our official judge and then we will be recognizing the top individuals and the top Grange teams from around the state as well. So something of note that is open to the public is our statewide displays of contests and activities. We have our photo contest where the winners of each county contest come to state and we have upwards of 200 photos and 200 crafts and then canning and sewing and quilting and needle arts. All of that is on display along with a lot of entries from some of our junior Grangers. I know on the educational posters we have over a hundred entries on educational posters and many of those are from here and the kids compete not only for ribbons but cash prizes as well and then the adults are in most the other contests. Educational posters are specifically for the kids. That's open to the public all day Friday all day Saturday and Sunday morning. You can go down to the Egg Trade Center here in Colville take a look at the displays today Saturday and Sunday morning at the Egg Trade Center here in Colville. the Vincent Fund it's fourth Friday in downtown Colville don't miss it we're very quickly finding a lot of fires all around Washington and Oregon lot of evacuations down in Oregon Guy Gifford at DNR gives us an update on new fire restrictions Guy Gifford the Washington State Department Natural Resources currently burn restrictions are in place outdoor burning of your forest debris is not allowed currently in any of our counties Northeast region including Stevens County so any outdoor burning no matter the size where you have a fire truck is currently prohibited if you're in a campground with an approved campfire ring you may be able to have a campfire there allowed but individual campgrounds may shut down their campground for specific reasons so always check with your campground host before you light a campfire and again the campfires are only in and out campground approved campfire rings so you cannot have a campfire in the woods or as you're not in a campground well today is travel day for me yesterday it was a day of just cruising the ocean in route to Dover we go from Dover to the airport in London back to Los Angeles let's take a quick recap of the past couple weeks here went around Iceland kind of an interesting place good to see not a place that I really particularly want to go back and spend a lot of time at beautiful countryside a lot of green a lot of waterfalls but for being June and 30 degrees it was cold windy and wet and yes everything they say about prices in Iceland is correct everything is very expensive everything from the over eight dollar a gallon gasoline to your basic food services everything in Iceland is very expensive with the exception of electricity electricity very cheap in Iceland the crews overall pretty good if you have a family you're going on a cruise carnival might just be the way to go they've got activities going on from nine in the morning till midnight one in the morning stuff going on every hour for all ages they've got activities for the young kids the teenagers for the adults if you like things with good service probably not the cruise line to take the food the food selection quality and service was all very subpar for cruise ships the carnival legend kind of disappointed as this is only the third voyage that it has made after being in dry dock getting refurbished they about doubled the size of the casino that was very nice if you like spending a lot of time in the casino other than that they obviously I'm sure they spent a lot of money and did a lot of things but there's a lot of things with the carnival legend that really dates it back to its original days the state rooms they did not do much if anything with it was the common open areas that they primarily remodeled but the a lot of activities tell you what if you're gonna have a family might be a way to go some of the other Norwegian princess they have a lot of family activities to if you're not taking any kids along I still am gonna have to lean toward Holland America because they don't have a lot of kids running around and they will give you old-fashioned cruise line service and old-fashioned cruise line food that's probably gonna top a lot of the other cruise lines so was a enjoyable trip I'll tell you Belfast a place that I've wanted to go for a long time kind of what I expected it to be I didn't realize there was still such a divide between the Catholics and the Protestants very serious issue there and they they are really divided still today Dublin absolutely wonderful town fast fast growth they have cranes everywhere they're putting up high rises they're putting up new buildings they are the only English speaking country in the EU and since Great Britain dropped out of the EU a lot of the headquarters offices for companies are being built right there in Dublin top of that the people were very friendly it was a nice town to get around in hopefully I'll be able to make the Southwest connecting flight and get back to Spokane but that kind of wraps up this two weeks coming up in August be off on the road again but beyond that I'll be back be back joining you in Colville this next
