Listen back to Paul Cooney and Stephen McGinn as they look forward to Scotlands huge match against Hungary on Sunday.

Scartish tubes and fittings are the go to guys for pipe work fabrication and supplies whether it's copper steel galvanized you need stainless steel or UPVC the new cab design boilers pumps valves and gauges 27 years they've been in this game exceptional through the ages did you know Scottish tubes and fittings are open seven days a week called Glasgow six four seven five thousand the gory do you football show with Scottish tubes and fittings pipes fittings and valves for every application including water oil steam and gas good evening this is Paul Coney here in the garbles in the heart of Glasgow and with us a man who's just flown back from Cologne even more earmiles this week than a British Airways pilot Stephen McGinn welcome back yeah nice to be back Paul nice to be back with a chance of qualifying I think that was a key thing from Wednesday night I think it's a game we could have won I think we're quite unlucky they can't hardly head off the post but it's also a game we could have lost Switzerland a good side they look like a team that played those tournaments every two years they look very confident look very assured and I did think that if it was a draw getting into the closing stages the both teams would be quite cagey nobody wants to lose nobody really wants to put themselves into the situation they might lose so played out a draw and sets us up for a cup final and you can see that with Switzerland couldn't you the last 10 or 15 minutes I know they almost scored was off sides but they were then settling for the draw and we could have nipped it ourselves as you mentioned Grant Handley probably should have scored I'm not going to go home at all great ball whipped in by the captain yeah it's a type ahead that he probably scores nine times at a 10 he makes great connection it could easily hit the inside of the post but within the stadium there's almost you almost could sense when Switzerland decided that one each wasn't the worst result for them and some of the Scotland fans you could see they started to sense it started to get the edge edgey I think they were wanting Steve Clark to maybe make his substitutions earlier but a Switzerland goal would have put us out yeah and with seven or eight minutes to go and ball obviously scores that offside goal and just put out that one and that look you can really gamble for this and go out the tournament so I think it sets us up nicely for Sunday it sure does it's been a tournament of late goals isn't it you know we saw it yesterday what up England yesterday as well we will talk later we're mainly talking about Scotland obviously up against Hungary and look they went into this the Germans were obviously the favourites you wouldn't think that listening to all of us in Scotland a week ago can you believe that's a week you are there at the time you joined us on the show that's a week ago and they came on from the opening ceremony but it's a week a lot has happened it must seem a long time for you but what I wanted to ask you first was what is what are they saying what are the players saying what they're feeling after it they must have got so much from that draw with Switzerland yeah I think I think they were it was just much more reflecting on what they are I mean you could see you can see what good size so many good teams I think the tournament's been brilliant and absolutely brilliant to be so far teams have such high quality but I think Scotland showed themselves I think it was it was such a it was an amazing night honestly what stadium that is unbelievable stadium and what about the floor of Scotland it's it's been well publicized I think a lot of speaking people's yeah but within the stadium honestly I mean it was almost I was there that night that tape of it was that tape of noise and the fans if the fans knew it was it was best for us if if we lost so they gave they played the apart they were absolutely unbelievable all day all night and I think the Scotland players were so relieved that they could put on a performance for them of course the big blow of the night was the loss of care and tyranny and we found out today's been sent back back to his home club he's been away for a while obviously as we know he was in Spain at we also see a dad's during the season so he's back there for treatment what's the latest word on yeah I think I think he sees hamstring it's one of those it's one of those incidents with any player in the pitch the way he landed you look and go that's a bad one then you see it's key on the AC him on the holding his face he just can't he just can't stay fat it's such an ongoing issue for him he looks so gutted I think we spoke off here about he leaves absolutely everything out there he's not the type of player that comes back and it edges his way back into it and doesn't really go he leaves absolutely everything out there and yeah it was really it was pretty it was pretty horrible to you're obviously sitting amongst the friends and families mom family are not far from us they feel it as much as it's Kieran does and other than anything the selfish point of you it's such a blow for the team he's such a huge player is and this formation the formation we play is designed for Kieran tyranny and Abbot's in and although we've got two games at a key on the it's the second turn and they're over we've lost him and we missed him so much in trying to qualify remember a couple of years ago when he's not in the team it's not the same well he changed the formation I'm gonna ask Stephen again here shortly the former you know the former folk at captain you're the invincible now having gone all season domestically in the league without losing lots of folk at fans there but lots of Celtic fans around Rangers fans people come from all over the country the more than the West or would that be fair when you go to Scotland yeah I mean it's such a yeah I think I said to you when I was in Munich ended up in every highland Tottenham club or in this Irish pub and it was a it's a brilliant day some lovely people some ex players couple players I played for after up North and and yeah it's just an amazing atmosphere and plus when you're there with Paul Paul looks like John so he's a yeah even the Germans think he's John do they yeah yeah of course one of those favorite Paul McGinn so he's mistreating for a couple they've given him a couple of days and I think that's absolutely right his his wee brother is playing in the euros final flow back on he flew back in Thursday morning at six o'clock after the game and straight over to mother out there to do his catch up training so yeah yeah yeah it was just I mean there's a really really special trap I'm gonna take some calls oh eight oh eight seventeen seventeen seven hundred it's the goal radio football show with Scottish tubes and fitting so give us a call let's hear John Carver he's on duty today speaks well we always say that first of all talking about here in Tierney's injury we see any other issue the other night obviously stretched it off he's got an issue with his hamstring and as we speak he's hidden home to be assessed by Arsenal that's all I can really see at the moment they'll obviously give you updates as they have it but he's obviously extremely disappointed if we do progress I'm sure he'll be back to support us but he's a young lad he's got plenty of time and he's got to make sure that it's right for his return of course a huge blow it's a blow because he's one of our top players and in the tournament football you need your best players on the park and in particular with him he gives that balance down the left hand side with Andy Robertson and Conor McGregor and we they combine really well so whenever any team loses the best players then it will affect the situation but it also is an opportunity for somebody else to step in and make a claim for it is going to change it go to a back four I mean most people think he won't but what do you reckon I don't think he well I thought because he had a look at the the four at the back in the Gibraltar game I wondered if I wonder if he was having a look at it or I wondered if he was just trying to throw their teams watching they were playing Gibraltar they'd have been scouts from Hungary Switzerland Germany at the game the more I think about it the more I think he was maybe just trying to throw them off that we might go to a four because it was a three again the other night he didn't change within the game I just expect it to be very very similar to Wednesday's team okay we'll get your team who you think is going to be shortly the the much change big time after the everyone was so down after the 5-1 defeat just a week ago but one one at the weekend we're still in it it's still going to be really tough though Stephen isn't it Liam's been on asking already how do you assess our chances it's going to be tough what do you reckon we're coming in to acknowledge how good the team Hungary I think we watched Serbia and obviously get the result the other night they were excellent in single in the second half this Hungary team topped the group with Serbia second I think that shows how good a side they are and they obviously have it at full strength we are losing players right left and center obviously Kinti on the top of Rimeport I have Hungary's favorites but I do like the situation we're going into a light the fact that we played well and the night I think it puts a remark on that we've arrived at a tournament we've put on a really good performance and I do think Hungary will have to really come out swinging they have to win the game and potentially buy goals I think it'll shoot us but on the face of it I do have Hungary's favorites here's John Carver speaking about the opposition the Hungarians let's not forget prior the tournament as well I think they lost one in 15 games so that tells you everything about them but the one thing that jumps off the page and what we've seen is they're a very well organized team very difficult to break down and play a counter attack football but they have some very good individuals as well you know we and there's a couple that we know from Bournemouth and Liverpool in particular so we have first-hand experience we've got Rob Owen and Ryan Christie who train with him every day so we'll tap into those guys as well but this is going to be a difficult game and and they have to win the game they have to win the game we have to win the game so you know it should make out for a hopefully and it's in a game and off you've had this game on just now Paul and against Austria and the Austrians have just scored good goal yeah really good header from China and I was really impressed with Austria in the first game thought they were excellent against France and they've started really well they've come out like a train and deservedly and they lead Ralph Randy of course in the dugout there and John Carver today was speaking about the man who used to play under him it's got my nominee I've got to be really careful here because we've got guys from Hungary listening to what I'm saying so I don't really want to show me hand if that makes sense we can have a conversation after the euros for sure but I don't want to really go into much detail about that so I'm not quite sure what the question was but it's obviously about McTomany it's the max that scored McGinn, McStae, McCoyst, McCleier, McGregor, McGregor, McTomany, phenomenal yeah amazing it was he's actually on he's in his bad foot pass back from Cal McGrigor's usually we think you'd have to able to pace on the ball maybe take a touch but he's made a good good connection obviously I miss time clearance from the Switzerland defender and it was just absolutely pedalling behind the goals or around the stadium actually because it was Soutez dotted everywhere the sure where weren't there was some atmosphere contrast that with England last night English fans are so down I mean they've got a win and they've got a draw they will go through almost definitely but there's a real mood of not despair but a bit of gloom and doom do you think they can hit the heights we know they've got maybe the most talented squad you've got to look at Spain and France but probably on paper but it's just not happening what's happened Stephen what do you think the problem is their heights are every tournament they go into whether a good team bad team they expect to win it yeah so and they tell people well this is the time we're going to win it don't they so I mean it's a long three weeks to win a tournament they've started at the four points out of six but they expect to blow every single team away three now they rate their players higher than other players in Europe but I never believed they were going to win the tournament and never thought did you know I never thought the team good enough I think there's a lot of players that wouldn't get a game for teams like Spain and France right yeah and the only bit that surprised me I think they've got a very on paper very athletic team I thought they looked really sluggish and we're flat and although I mean as is that they call it the best league in the world I do think it's the most intense most physically demanding league in the world and a lot of those guys have played 50 60 games since last august since last august and I do think that that that little break you have and you've been so intense and that's such an intense league for a long time then you have a couple of weeks it must be hard to go again but as I said yeah I didn't I didn't I didn't buy into the their favorites against teams like germany and germany but yeah they've been really didn't look really off it just seeing livin dossky I know he's on the bench she was an injury worry he's not made it my goodness that pulling could do with him on this evening one ill down to austria what was Spain last night Spain against Italy because and we haven't said this yet if we do make it this third place at one of the those that are going through we could play against Spain yeah um spoke about that last night um you don't want to get carried to ourselves in who you might play but I was watching the first half thinking I hope it's that way we play into that that's been a very very impressive um and all we we were very good against Spain obviously famous one at home I thought we were excellent out in Spain and I didn't expect them to hit the heights of that so far the tournament but really impressive in the two games so we had to take something from the game with switzerland it was one one the other night we mentioned the michromany goal one one he's steve o'clock afterwards this is the way we've been playing as a team over the the last three or four years it's why we're here at a major tournament so we knew what we had to do the players knew what they had to do and good reaction to a disappointing night and was still alive in the tournament thought it was a good team performance against a a good opponent certainly i was good team performance on the night the only thing is we lost here in tony what about looking forward to the game and sunday the reality is when when the draw was made and we were drawn against the host nation in the opening game you're looking at the the second two games in the in the group and thinking maybe that's where the points are going to come from that's the way it's turned out so everybody was trying to overhype the the fact that we had to get something from this game tonight but the reality was even if we had played well against Germany we probably would have been a similar position we had to come to this game and get something to keep us alive going into the last game that's what we've done you don't disagree with that do you? no i i mean i know he gets a bit of criticism it tends for being pretty abd called realistic as as opposed to negative he's not had any secrets they believe we needed four points out the group three points potentially afraid only lost by one to germany but that the group's looking how steve clark told us it was going to look he told us it was going to look this in about how good switzerland had been the last few tournaments for years it was always going to come down to maybe haven't he beat hungry and i think he'll be quite content with the position we're in yeah i think he'd like to have a field squad obviously not ideal how many players we've got missing but i think he'll be comfortable with this cut final situation ahead of sunday for sure do you think the whole nation get carried away people used to talk about long before you were born at 78 Argentina and honestly the the left it was what i don't know 50,000 that hummed in same studio and and i'm a cloud the manager said oh come back we're going to win it we'll go back and win it again in four years time okay we all get carried away i think everyone lot not everyone lots of people get carried away before the game i was looking at the papers reputable papers saying you may be 1 1 2 1 Scott nobody that i read said we're going to lose it's such a strange but ahead of if we were to play germany and a world cup qualifying if we were to play in the european championship qualifier everybody would write off germany and munic they would say right we'll lose that one but we needed the points all of a sudden when they hyped him in your tournament every day but i mean i got carried away i believed that i thought before the tournament i said on here i thought germany would win the tournament um expected us to lose i expected us to play better but expected us to lose in the night but the more you speak to the more people get excited the more you get carried away and you think well maybe i'm wrong everyone else is pretty confident here but um as i said a poor poor performance in the night wasn't a poor resolve so losing but it wasn't anything expected and it's as i said we needed four points of qualifying it's still in the hands john carver was saying today the belief he's gotten this team the team are back the whole nation is i've seen it i've seen that even even yesterday when we got up in the morning there were still people waiting for us that we we drove to the airport there was people going back to the train station they went past the train station it was incredible so so in a few as a football that in myself as a coach when i listen to the flower of scotland right and i've been involved and i'm actually getting a little bit emotional here now because i've been involved in some massive games and when that tomb came on it's the loudest i've ever heard and it brought along to my throat if that can't inspire these guys after what they did do the night then we might get beat because the opposition are better than us but it won't be for the one to try for sure was it emotional yeah it was amazing obviously um that's like what made it for me Maui nephew was there and and i could see the enjoyment how i mean he was absolutely belting out the flower of scotland you look to your left and that one that john does the glasses for oh yeah love it what a couple of days he had what's his first name me jack yeah yeah um but it's just special memories and top of literally what john carver said like you're at the stadium you're watching a couple of locals you're watching a switzerland fans thinking they're looking across and think what is going on yeah and i think it did inspire the players i think they they totally backed up with a good performance John McGuire and the news today was saying about the way we've been received and we don't want to get awards for anything other than football but if it is going to be away from the game itself i think the fans have been outstanding i know those huge numbers been a bit of criticism of the german transport system but you were telling me before the show you reckon you know honestly i i i can't believe the number of fans from all the countries uh out in just in cologne there was he's obviously switzerland's not far from germany there was thousands upon thousands of swiss turkey obviously the good result as i said in the show the night before they were absolutely they were everywhere and i think it's just the volume of people i think the transport because it's pretty much nobody comes out of check you just go on the trains but on the way to the game it was pretty hectic do you know the better game the other night well nearly everybody including the goalkeeper i mean everyone did i'm not saying anyone didn't but the goalkeeper and gets gone and the manager pleased for him that's what you need your goalkeeper for that's that's what we we see with angus and we are a team when we come to this type of match like like most countries you need your goalkeeper to make big saves and and that's what he did he made two or three really good saves even though he got a go kick for one of them but he made some big saves and that that's what you need it key times you have you need your goalkeeper to save a goal but that's what he did tonight what's that please what's that doing for him no we spoke real night um and that's what he said from the germany game or any sort of game where you're the underdog your goalkeeper has to he has to make saves that you just have to make saves and grow in the game and i think he did right from early on he made a save and i think he just gives you confidence when your goalkeepers make saves you obviously don't want to be faced too many but uh fair play time i thought you recovered you took a bit of criticism after the first game and no players will always say they don't hear it but you do hear it your family feel it um and i think as well uh Anthony rousing obviously makes a big mistake yeah but i thought he did a really really good second half and what i always say about Anthony rousing he's not the he's never going to be the best right back at a place for safety but he stands up and be counted the amount of games he comes into we are as the johnson did in the last Rangers game he goes off for 15-20 minutes to go i was thinking such a my brother's a right back in such a hard position to come into yeah you're in that last line you're protecting a lead you haven't to defend he always stand up stands up to be counted and i thought you'd recover really well from a bad mistake it's absolutely true and Grant Hanley the mistake as well i was a poor poor ball from him and then it came yeah i thought people were about harsh on him were too equipped to criticize it was a big mistake but you know he did i saw it he actually played well after that and some of the commentators um mentioned that i think that's important he gives everything he doesn't yet yeah he never hides and that's what it's one of my he's it's one of my favorite traits in a player i feel a professional in a dressing room that always my favorite players the ones that stand up to be counted and lesson he's made that mistake Shakiri there's not a lot of players in the world take that first time and i and i was almost you're almost describing that there's games you can play on your phone you almost flick it the ball past be a finger past the post and into the top corner it was almost it was like a bullet yeah a curved bullet um special go from Shakiri and punished obviously what is a mistake but as i said to you i think a lot of commentators have said as you said he recovered maybe the really strong think tough when Tony made it the mistake and what was was a small mistake that could have made maybe been recovered because we had two players near the ball i think the fact chance folks to any other player in the Swiss team it's not a goal so that tells you what i think of Shakiri just rolled on a plate and the way he finished you knew when it was rolling towards Shakiri it was he's destined for the back of the net he's he's the top top player so you don't give top top players that kind of chance the gory do you football show with Scottish tubes and fittings Scotland's independent pipe work supplier and fabricator let's go in a big country they're behind us we're uh sometimes described as a small country at one time they said the best small country in the world we're still in the europe's very much one point from the first two games switzerland of course one one the other night they've got a much better goal difference than us because we try and keep it simple for people i need to keep it simple steven and they are going to come second aren't they because they could lose they could easily lose to germany but they've got a goal difference plus six compared to us is that the case yeah i think second place is is beyond us um it's all it's it's when i bus it's get the the win in sunday and finish third and and take who the computer throws up because i don't i don't think it's absolutely certain who we play if we come third but uh we'll just be just be amazing to be the first scotland team to to have made it through it'll be fantastic you'd be so proud of your re-brother and all of them there as well yeah um i'm just in the background just loving uh the the song we have a scotland playlist in my house but my little daughter hanish doesn't let us get past the no scotland no partition i love that one i don't know who joins joins names in it so uh get that one on before the end i don't wait yeah i'd add that one in my car five things in a row today people love it honestly um talks but we played it obviously here on go radio and the breakfast i heard john with gradle and with zoi the other morning from germany so the good together yeah good fun yeah gradle dasmett to come on really enjoy that uh so yeah but it has been i mean everything's just gathering pace and it'll be a summer to remember if we can get the result in sunday sure well krofta was on one morning as well i think it was a chursday morning great to him i'm sure he will be back with us uh before long oh eight oh eight seventeen seventeen seven hundred if you haven't been on for a well good chance to come on tonight speak to steven while he's back in the country here are you a tax exhale now or no no i know you pay your taxes and all you do i just hope we can get one round one more so i can get one last wrap out did you have any because as i said and i've uh i keep saying it's uh i really special tournaments so far here's john carver the assistant coach we're talking about an opposition yeah who's qualified for the last five major tournaments so we knew we were in a difficult group but we're now sitting here with the opportunity to try and get into the last 16 and getting into the last 16 is extremely difficult as well because we've never done it before because it's it's hard so we know what's ahead of us against an extremely good team uh well organized by the italian coach you can see that in their team but they also have individuals who are very good so we know we're in for a tough game but if you had a said to us we still have a chance of qualifying going into the last game snap your hands off your sure words what's the squad update we know kern taney has gone to london back to the emirates any other news he has john carver no there's only ryan jacks a little bit under the weather um so we'll just keep an eye on his situation but everybody else is fine you feel for ryan jacks don't you know luck what's so ever no um and obviously it's a big summer for hannah to see where he goes next but yes but it's been really frustrating uh time for ryan jack the way strangers career came to an end and you just hope that's not a bug um hope if it's just a little sickness bug then they keep on distance from the rest of squad because that's the last thing we need to any more of missing for sure kern's been on asking anyone from his beloved celtic about uh any transfers it's been all quiet though i think at the moment with what's going to say scotland they're such an international game now steven but there's no one there rangers still yesterday you saw quite a lot of stuff on social media but james tavania they reckon he is going and probably kind of goats and but nothing confirmed so far the big story was yesterday and it's in the papers today about rangers won't be playing at eyebrows in august because of the reek and the work going on at the cowland road end uh quite a few million being spent but it's behind schedule and looks as though speaking about a Ferguson last night um yeah they'll probably try and play away from home in august and for the champions lead qualifier or qualifiers it would be edenborough marifield and they're playing man you there anyway aren't they? yeah they're playing man united there but i think that would be a massive blow for rangers um yeah i think we sell take obviously played some qualifiers there um and i think it gives up your home advantage i think it's you'd be such i think one of the big strengths from rangers european record the last few years been very good european team at times and a lot of that has been down to eye brooks in the champions league sorry europe league nights at eye brooks but it just it's it's really really strange i mean i've played football for a long time you see this pitch a couple of days after the season it gets wrapped up but by the time you get back for pre-season of the stages it seems ready so really strange that it's not going to be ready if scotland win on sunday night if we go through well here's john carver but we can't hide away from it can we? because it's it's true it's fact it's out there so let's um let's say how the game develops and plays out you know all these guys if we do it we'll be the first team to do it and people remember the team that do it the first time around so that's what they've got to think about in the back of the heads these guys have gotten us to this tournament and we've deserved to be here and it's been those guys who put all the work and the effort in to get us where we are why can't we go one step further and take it to that next level because that's what we want we all want that and and there's no reason why we can't after what we saw a couple of days ago like he's measured he's not getting carried away john carver i think he's quite inspirational though is that what the players feel? yeah i just and everything he's saying is kind of what the players have been saying i think they're all i don't think he's saying anything that they aren't dreaming about i think they've been desperate they've not had from the fact that they want to be the scotland team to qualify out a group um you could see went to see john um bumped into a couple of players after the game and he can sense the almost anticipation of it's within their grasp it's one game one win away from creating history do you see them after the game did you get time to have something together where you get you get given the option that's dead well clear in Munich that's right everyone like my mum dad do with that right okay but yeah i went through to the to the team hotel after the game and met him for a quick bite to eating a drink and yeah just spoke about the game spoke about the trip so yeah it was a much better visit my mum hadn't tried any yeah that must have been really difficult mike you need your mum you need your mum at a time like that so i mean sometimes because probably played football you distance yourself emotionally from it times but the type of kind of seating atmosphere you're round all the friends and family so you you're almost feeling their pain not just your own brothers but everyone's they're so nervous some of the mums and the good thing was that nobody could you know it's not it's not as if somebody had a blender and everyone nobody got we mentioned it earlier in the week you know it always teased mike we did about that mark when you used to do it in the sunday mail you had to do the the one to ten i mean that would be difficult wouldn't it that one yeah yeah but every one i mean everyone was pwn Friday night everyone can hold their heads up high after Wednesday so yeah much better visit Wednesday sure it must have been pulling the vehicle eyes biatek so it's one one after 32 minutes it's a really good i think it's a great well really good tournament so far great might be stretching it but early in what do you reckon no unbelievable i think australia will be pretty frustrated they've totally dominated the first half an hour but as you see when you think of that last tournament and taking it to Qatar yeah it's a football tournament a proper football country suited to i mean it's about for this type of tournament and i think the football is not disappointing we're up against hungry and join carver points out look there they're probably favorites get into the game eight o'clock stood guard sunday night i'm not a gambler so i couldn't tell you about the bookmakers who the bookmakers are but what i will say is i can see why they've made them favorites and i've spoke about the record leading into the euro they're a good team they're a very good team let's not forget i know this full of fact they'll be inland homing away four and a little more than you now for a team to do that at a decent team and we know that so we have to give them the respect and i can see why the bookies have gotten their favorites and that's fine cheers john did we have to be reminded it does show you and we mentioned they earlier on was it only one defeating 15 or 16 games it's impressive who are you looking forward to seeing though i mean we see obviously it's a Bosley Liverpool he's a really well more than a good player none of them i hope they're all injured yeah no but i mean yeah really impressed with him at Liverpool he's a top season i think Vargas looked really impressive i thought he was excellent in the first game against switzerland see at pharynge varish yeah yeah looked really sharp but as john carver said that i'm the same i agree i think they look very strong sometimes i mean just because i've lost our two games it's like we're all the other whipping boys it's not really that type of group i think i think we're going to have to be at very very best to be hungry i do think the situation having that point hungry having to come out and when i think it gives us more of a chance than a move for both level and points their goalkeeper peter Galaski plays for arby libsig 230 appearances almost a hundred clean sheets that's decent isn't it 56 caps the goalkeeper and we see him during the season they're quite about 28 appearances it's the left wing back milos kirk is he's at bournemouth and they've had a really good season yeah really impressive season i think they're well-run club they sign really well we we're on in ryan christia i think bournemouth have got the absolute best at ryan christia i think he's a really good season quite probably quite unlucky to miss out in the game the other night but um yeah if you're playing 28 team games in that bournemouth team you're doing well well no our team so well they recovered at the the other night in the game in cologne so let's talk about the threat of hungry he's drawn cover again let's not forget prior the tournament as well i think they lost one in 15 games so that tells you everything about them but the one thing that jumps off the page and what we've seen is they're a very well-organized team very difficult to break down and play a counter attack football so how are we going to break them down steven what do you record the midfield did well the other nights are going to be the same again yeah i mean i think um i don't as i said to you my probably just my preference i always prefer about four but i don't think steve clark's going to change i think um scott mckenna will come in for keren tianne and i think the rest will be the same i think she addams you know it's probably quite harsh one for she addams the first game yeah to come off i think he responded i thought he was excellent i don't think he's getting the natural instinct as a ghost goer as lance shankland but we don't need to be winning we don't need to win and go deference i think that's hongris issue to deal with go deference we just need to win the game and i think a good 70 minutes so she addams and then very well to bring on the ghost goer at james forest we talked last night with barry others have said they think james forest will get um i run out do you reckon that's going to happen from the start oh i can see the thinking it's a most win game i just don't i believe that steve clarko as i said i think the the team will be angi sconning goals a back three a jack henry grant handling the middle scott mckenna to the left the wing backs um i think anthony rousden the i think he'll stick with them um he's a very loyal manager that's the one thing the players know um he's not going to cast you off just because of a mistake um so i think anthony rousner will get the nod again and he robust and obviously in left in that box my field thought cal mcgregan belligomer linked up really well um and i do think as i said i think ryan christy's quite unlucky to miss out but join in scott mack tomney are your gold threats i think they're the ones most likely to score i think they'll just be behind um shadams not going to be lauren shanklin you reckon i mean shadams did really well the other night at cal mcgregor is quoting the papers today saying how he enjoys playing alongside billy gilma there that he sees things early as well and the manager also spoke about the impact of the brighten star i thought he was really good he's a really good player he's he's a fantastic player everybody uses that word technically but sometimes it just gets missed he's a good player he was always my intention to start billy in a second game maybe that's why he didn't start the first game but i knew and you see towards the end he the little man's tiring a bit towards the end of the game because it's it's a tough shift in midfield i thought i'm in and cal mcgregor both in mid central midfield for as well outstanding former interest in scotlin captain last night said i think he's more than a good player he's a top player yeah really pleased for cal mcgregor the other night um when you think of people i think people questioned whether he should be playing he responded to his old response he's a leader he's a big game player i thought he was excellent obviously he plays a big part in the goal i do think it brings the best out in him having a partner beside him i think domestically for seltic he's proven he can do it in a one that he can cover both sides but it may be worth looking at for seltic next year having that partner in beside him for some of the games because um i think he'd a big impact in the game and i think having a partner back there helped him i think james a big seltic fan who often messages uh since says they need somebody alongside cal mcgregor it would help him this is a seltic yeah um i mean it wouldn't surprise me at all i think seltic for the last few years obviously and she pushed the call goes never going to sign the defensive midfield of it i do think it's something that may fail short and in europe i think i'm encountered an attack done far too much and i think a partner in beside cal mcgregor could be a big thing for them next season in the group stage jack henry of course i was playing again and he spoke about yeah the chance to make history for scotland on sunday the squad was earlier i've come into a tournament that we'd never uh got out of group before so definitely this squad is it's hungry to change that and uh if what to take a last game coming into that it was in our hands to get those three points and it probably would have taken it so the squad i well we're not and uh we're more determined to to make history on it's under against hungry but he knows it's a big blow losing care and tyranny here will be a miss obviously hopefully the injury is not too bad uh the squad dragged around him last night obviously not nice to see but i'm sure the uh the physical staff in that will assess that and see what a extended injury is what i have done and he's back to london today to start the recovery and where can we improve that's where he was asked so this is jack henry speaking last night we'll look at the game what what was a drawing what we can do better on and what can we improve and we'll sit down get together look at that and and see how we can take the best step forward moving into the hungry game and what a difference four days and that draw makes after the five-one defeat on friday different mood after wednesday night yeah obviously a massive contrast and hopefully we can tell you this momentum now felt that i saw for better justice last night in the performance and hopefully we made the country a bit more proud of them what they felt as well uh after that evening in germany a lot to look forward to now obviously it's in our hands going into that hungry game and and something to really relish the gory do your football show with scottish tubes and fittings proudly serving scottlin for 27 years open seven days let's go i keep meaning to find out i like that one but with that mlf4 whatever or i'm not sure you know this one steven again you love your music i'm not great when my music i do like this so no i just put no things in i should know i should never ask about something we don't know but there must be a scottish connection there i'm sure fergie will let me know sometime before the end of the euros oh wait wait 17 17 700 what's happening Poland against us show what's the latest steven it won one very entertaining game i mean ralph frang it was famed for his style of football he never was able to quite implement it at man United but the very ferocious in a person and it's been that type of game intent stuff they sure are i'm just looking a few people have been on saying what do you reckon is going to happen and i saw in the paper today i was reading in the sun it's in the record as well i think just about the crucial you know last games in the first in the group section and i looked at some of the score lines so world cup 82 scottlin 2 the soviet union 2 so that was russia russia and war um george orton put scottland ahead but we made some mistakes we know the story about it and uh 2-2 i remember going into that game and we had a great chance yeah no you went back i was there i was a very very young reporter covering that game so i remember it well and thinking we didn't quite have the i think the psyche of the scott's was different then i'll say that we should have with some brilliant players um so then fast forward to mexico 86 scottlin no euro guino they get a player sent off really early on but we still couldn't break them down against 10 men in that school it's part of it when you look at the european record of some of the teams obviously salted rangers abadim donated win in tournaments and you think how the national team how have they never qualified you know i mean that kind of thinking obviously i never wasn't alive but yeah you think how can names like that none of qualify yeah of course soon as scottlin's go on the 82 at the end um there was a famous mix up between you know the top defenders and they were but it went wrong and then soon as was dropped i remember i'm telling us before they gave me said i'm not playing which was a big story then brazil remember it well of course italy nineteen nineteen we lost one now there's no disgrace in that though is that no that was a no that was a i don't know how she could say on that one um just looking at other ones switzerland oh we won that game but just not enough holland scored an extra goal at the other game um and that that put us out and it was having my coins to score it yeah that that was a first that was a first tournament i remember obviously the first tournament i remember was the World Cup 94 obviously the first one we were at was 96 and you thought we had qualified and obviously um was england scored that's right it was yep yeah right um which obviously was a freak result in and it was out that was so close and then i remember the last game then in sanity n in france in nine to eight and we just needed well okay we just we needed to win um but we lost three now and it was just so disappointing and we know what happened three years ago we lost 3-1-2 Croatia but modrich and co were probably his best at that point Croatia they were real we'll look what they've been on to do yeah real special era for well it's a small nation sometimes you hear about we've run a nation of five million but Croatia are the benchmark what they've achieved in the international game with four million and that was there that night modrich put on an exhibition he was unbelievable but um thankfully hungry don't have players of that caliber but um as i said as a collective they've been really impressive for the last few years said it started to show at their four points ahead of Serbia to top their group and we have all seen how good Serbia have been so they're absolutely no weapon boys stevey clark spoke the other day talking about the conference restored in this scotland squads they're going to feel a lot better going into the next game on the back of that kind of performance which is which is what we are the this is how we play this is how we work and we're sure that as well as the the aggression and the fight and the that dusty side of the game if you like we can play when we get the ball down and we play we created some chances Switzerland created some chances how we'd imagine for the the people watching was a pretty good game for me was pretty nervous at times but also pretty hopeful at times so we did what we had to do was down the competition and that that was that was the most important thing he's right stevey what you thinking no i was laughing at me and he said from the literature probably a good game i was more the latter it was really nervous so occasion obviously because yeah it was if we lost we were out in switzerland that times looked really impressive i thought i could say you can see why they're so successful why they get to all these tournaments and you felt that they had a killer punch in them but we were good on the night and thought we defended really well how do you think we're going to tackle look how do we start the game then what why do we look at what we're going to try to do so the gold difference is just so wet it's not about that it's getting three points isn't it yeah i think this is why steve clarks paid paid well it's why he's the scotland manager because it's going to be two ways i think both teams come out swinging and they just have a real go um or does he think hungry might think they can beat us and beat us well to to put themselves back in the frame to so do we can try and contain them who are traditionally a counter attack team do we let them try and play a different game and then we pick them off so i'm sure it's a big decision for steve clarkness coaching team it sure is and we did well to but we weren't going to collapse i don't think against switzerland but he did and his gun when it went 1-1 remember a big save from him from in doi and doi's a more than decent player and and that was quite significant yeah there was that little spell obviously the type of because it was such a i don't mean a freak go because chikiri showed it every time and he can do something special like that he showed it through his old career but because it kind of it was a mistake from one of our players it takes the wind out your sails then they had really for the next five ten minutes they did the disallowed goal it felt like they were about to take the game away from us but the scotland players dug in and i thought we get much strength stronger than the second half the scotmectomony goal did you give it to mctomony right away telly was giving it to fabine shah initially because obviously it came off him but the other thing is if it's if it's go bound then yeah if it yeah it was on target i mean yeah the wonderland that you can't give it to scotmecana but no sure no that because that was the way yeah that scotmectomony's goal yeah so it was weird because we were obviously the other side of the ground and it it takes a bit to go in and because it doesn't fly straight in so it was that half second display before the madness yeah alice is on saying what do you make of var during this tournament she was really enjoying it i think it's been excellent i think the it's been one of the big things about the tournament the referees i think they've been very good but with hardly i mean i don't think v else had to really decide the game in a bad way and i think that shows i mean if it's going to be involved in football that is a standard i know it's at the very top and you expect to do the best but it shows that there's hope for the domestic game the sure is it's got to get better here isn't it because we we don't have the full fat one do we we've got you're much lesser than what they have even in the premiership and they'll invest some of this technology no i bet i mean even at the game it that gives a description of what they're checking for which i think is a big improvement you know what the delay is about so yeah it's been it's been very impressive alice is also asking what do you reckon tonight's a great game coming up isn't it's the Netherlands up against france france one of the favourites what do you reckon oh really i look forward to big game to two big teams i think holland probably not at the tip of the tongue for people's favourites to win it but i thought they were quite good there are they in a test against one of the big favourites france um always there they're about so really looking forward to well but the man behind the mask and bappy he's not allowed to wear that one with the colours apparently not um no i mean i don't know what they'll do he's obviously such a he's the best player in the world at the minute um but i'm not sure i'm not sure he's worth raskin at this stage of the tournament so there's so much coming up over the weekend but we'll only get a few minutes left then Steven what are you thinking then who are the we talked about the midfield it's so important and the four of them played so well the other night we're going to misk you and tony so what's the effect of that you reckon and he roberson got he did well didn't he down that wing he was bombing forward a few times um can what you're looking for so it almost changes the dynamics of the game um i think when she had then scott mckenna for quarantine they you start to think about set pieces that's the first thing i think about he's a big threat can i handle he's a big threat can we win free kicks corners up the park and keep putting it in the box um i know gillacies had a big career but a good friend of mine was his youth team at luvapil and swears by i promise he's not that good so if we can we see what was to make fae dead in previous games with kaspos mico when they put everything on top of them we've got that extra height in the team let's get everything on top of them and see if we can really cause havoc in a hungry defense and how do you i know you'll have confidence in this squad because they've got belief in themselves again i mean it was a just do you think it got to them the occasion last friday and i don't want to go on a bit friday it's gone but i'm just trying to think in the context of this sunday potentially i mean as i said t8 i've been in a lot of football games my life i've been to a lot of big games at hamden been to a grown-up i went to a lot of Celtic games at champ in champion's league and the nights were ferocious um but these two atmospheres have been right up there and just occasion without everything you can't you can't help but carry the way i think a couple of players have spoke when they come out for the warm-up it was like a go with the atmosphere so maybe but honestly we would have had to be not just a hundred percent against you maybe they had to be 200 percent to get result that night against you and me and me opening up a tournament so as much as it wasn't a good performance that was much more like as reflection of what we've been for the last three or four years you could see that's what we've been and if we bring that in sunday and we fall short then we fall short um as as john carver said but just turn up and give everything we've got you're going to come back on on sunday then pre-mach five two seven five o'clock this is the time for the go radio football show and we're going to be on with Scottish tubes and fitting so you're up for it on sunday yeah i'm still getting over the other night i think that's the way the tournament i think that for the players is the fans need a bit of recovery thing as well yeah but yeah buzzing for sunday and can't wait to watch it that's the song that young jack mcgin is enjoying oh my little girl hannah yeah she'll be shouting the radio just now saying the uncle john song so my wife will have to deal with that for the next afternoon it's actually it's great nik morgan we've played it a lot on here on go it's brilliant let's hope that we're partying for the right reason and to be fair because somebody said oh no party well it's a party for the german's last Friday night and the scott's party we've parted in cologne do you think we're going to be partying in stuttgart what do you reckon yeah i think the locals haven't been disappointed with the no scotland no party uh made it memorable for everyone and let's just hope we can get back to back to cologne on munich for the next round let's hope so steven thank you so much for joining us thank you sunday see you on sunday the countdown is on here we'll keep you right
