All right, I'm just going to cut to the chase as we get this edition of the six rings in football things post practice podcast rolling. Your boy is Nick Fitzy Stevens, an Andy Jumbo heart on Media Hill practices over on a day that was positively sweltering. It was hot. It was humid. It was hazy. I think we're all probably a little crazy from the heat right about now, including that player that's laying on the ground next to the Gatorade cart with his head on his helmet. That doesn't look great. That's never a good sign. Actually, I think he's all of us at this point right now. There's our boy Christian Fourier waiting to get a little mobile interview with somebody from the team right now to broadcast live on our terrestrial station. I was going to say sister station. I told you. I'm a little crazy from the age. Jesus, one day in the heat. That's it. I know. I've never would. That's why I didn't play. I can barely finish a podcast. It was ambient heat. It was our first warm day. Yeah, there's a first one week ago not to hold the mic so close. He just told me off camera to hold it closer. Not too close. All right. If you see that we're already in mid-season form right now. Marcus cannons here. I didn't even talk to any football. Some of our special guests today include Marcus Cannon, not on the pod. Devin McCordy, also not on the pod. Not yet. Marcus Jones and Juju Smith-Schuster have throngs of media in front of them right now speaking. At the end of a practice, Andy, that I'm going to tell you straight up. Didn't have a lot of juice. Okay. Didn't have a lot of things going on. I'm going to posit this and then I want you to react. I'm not here yesterday. I read your recap. I heard you hit on Greshen 4A post practice pod yesterday. Wasn't a great day. There was a lot of overreacting to Drake May, but I feel like there is this weird cloud like a little Paul that has been cast over. Patriot's camp, 2024 now, because of the Judon situation. And then you compound that with people's frustration over rookies struggling as they should. And there was a strange vibe out here today. Okay. So let's start with those two things. You absolutely write the Judon situation, issue, conflict, whatever you want to call it, is hanging over the camp. And he was not out here today, which seemingly means, so I've compared this to something I probably shouldn't compare it to. Okay. This is going to get inappropriate in three, two, go. I think there was a little bit of a prison female dog contest going on, a little test from Matthew Judon to the new head coach. I think he was testing him. Wow. And I think the head coach stood up and stood tall. Did you like? Did you like that? Did you think he did a good job? He kicked Judon off the field. And my words kicked off. It has not been said, but I'm using my words. Because how much older is he than me? I like that Judon's not out here, because if you don't practice, don't come out here. I think they handled it. My guess is there was some punishment. My guess is there was some, I don't know if it's financial. I don't know, like, I think we'll probably get reports of that at some point. Because we know nothing as of yet. And the number one question people have asked, the media folks, myself, Walt's in a bout over with the super fans over there in the stands, cooking in the aluminum benches over there. Hey, where's Judon? Where's the guy with the red sleeves? Did they send him home? Are they going to trade him? Like, we don't know. And it would be irresponsible, but not that that's going to stop certain media members from speculating. Why are you looking at me? Where's bold? Well, Karen, someone. Yeah, I don't know how this is going to play out at all. My guess is he was punished. Gerard was not happy. And I think, and I've said, I said this yesterday, I'm going to revisit it because people unfairly are comparing Gerard Mayo to Bill Belichick, but the end of Bill Belichick. That ain't right. Rewind to 2001. Terry Glenn was on the practice field with earbuds in his ears listening to music and holding a phone call. He was disrespectful to the goat head coach who no one would ever do that to, but he did it. And you know, Bill did got rid of him, kicked him out. It was a whole thing. It actually ended up in like court. But don't compare Gerard to Bill Year 24. Yes, he was a dictator. He had full control. He could tell anybody to do anything. People feared him 2001. Terry Glenn didn't fear him. Terry Glenn tried to lift his leg up and urinate on him. And he kicked him in the nuts and said, get the hell out of here. And I think you had that moment for Gerard Mayo yesterday. So that's a positive. That is a positive spin in it. Positive. I also I tell I felt about it, too. Yet there were some people overreacting yesterday saying, I thought this was a bad sign. Gerard Mayo was not able to keep this off the field. One of Belichick's greatest hallmarks was that he always kept the dirt off the field. You never heard about any of the drama. Terry Glenn was on WBC with a phone in his ear at practice talking. So you can't be more disrespectful than that. This was nowhere near as disrespectful as that. Are you now going to tell me that this is a you people or my people being selective in their recall? Oh, you people are a problem. And you people, you led me right into it. Because you just said overreactions to Drake May. No, no, the reactions over not needed. People told you what they saw. It was the fourth best quarterback on the field. The offense ran the worst when Drake May ran it. He has not looked good through five plus days of camp. And that was yesterday. Oh, it was Andy Hart. Oh, Andy, quick question. Was that his first professional padded practice in the NFL? Oh, he never wore pads at North Carolina. So the pads threw him for a loop. I see how it is. I'll let a second. I'll let you all spring. You're the one you are the one up and down progression. You can't break a diamond. You're the one who said he's broken. Because the guess what happened today? I mean, my overreaction today. You know, my overreaction today is what if you watched practice, especially at this end of the year, if you were chasing your kids all over the place like Drake May was everybody. Listen, pretty quiet. One sneaky good, except it didn't drop to that for me, by the way. Good. I like hearing that. Didn't show up. You know why? Why is that? Because his peeps are letting him down. So he has a boot. He rolls out. There's pressure. He drops down. Beautiful side on side arm. Yeah. And J. Von Baker stopped running and didn't catch it. J. Von Baker run and help your quarterback out. Okay, he got a little dinged up next in fairness. I don't think he's dinged up. I think he's out of gas. Getting shaped. You're in the NFL. Again, we're getting to the pro game. Okay. So another play. Drake May rolls out left under significance, rolling left. Okay. Throws across his body. Yep. Perfectly play on the numbers. That hits Jalen Polk in the hands. Unfortunately, that was apparently the worst place to hit him because he didn't catch it. And then later two plays as a nice completion across the middle on the middle pass. Okay. So then two plays after that. Yep. Front pylon right side. He hits J. Von Baker in the hands. It's contested. There's defense there. That's good to see. But J. Von Baker couldn't go up and get it. Make a play for your goddamn quarterback. Excuse me. Oh, walk that one back. Turp out of that out. The talk of this practice would have been the bounce back day for Drake May. And when he got hot in a 11 on 11 drill late in practice. But because his guys, mostly Polk and mostly Baker aren't doing what they need to do. People are talking about Drake May scuffling in consistencies and there's these team wide malaise. It's a team splat. It's a team sport. Catch the ball for your rookie. The three of you are supposed to be the future of the offense. Correct. That is that is our triumvirate. That's the the the the new Trinity of the offense going forward May Polk and Baker start helping your quarterback out. And they haven't been awful throughout camp. I'm not saying I'm saying today Sunday and Monday J. Von Baker was kind of the kind of the people try to tell you that that's not an overreaction though. If it's positive, people like to hear it. They love your observations. If it's negative, they tell you to stuff it up your rear. So are you telling me that we are in a no win situation here reporting what we see? No, no, I'm going to always win because I'm always going to tell you what I see and I'm going to be objective. So I always win in Star Trek. They call this the Kobayashi Maru. Oh, I guess that's the end of the podcast. Good night, everybody. The Kobayashi Maru and all this air horn. I'll get that air horn. The unwinnable situation. And I feel like right now, again, this just speaks to what a weird state we're in. Yes, it's hot outside. Yes, we should go somewhere. It is. It's the third most second most expensive one. You know, I depend on your belief. Some people say it's the first two. It's tough. It is really tough right now to get a feel of what's going on. You know, I I mean, I watch the kickers working out again today. We had lots of miss kicks as well. Granted, it's the home and listen, Sissen is now the home of missing Riley. Crying Ryan. It's just actually a Ryan Rylan. And then we got, you know, Joey Sly out there trying to earn his spot. The running game is looking pretty good. But again, how much are you going to learn when there's only a limited amount of contact in the second padded practice? I don't know. She's I feel like, I feel like we're all going down. Oh, it's Paul Pirlar. He's bending down in front of me. I was uncomfortable for him. Hey, whoa. Hey, now, talk about Patriots unfiltered care to comments. No, I don't you know what? I don't care for his antics as well either. His gotcha style of journalism. Well, okay, real quick question. What'd you think of Fitzy calling it the over reaction comments about Drake May yesterday? I would not agree with that. I don't think it was an over reaction. So when we observe things and talk about it, that's an over reaction. That's not the following day and say he was a little better. I just did. I did hear someone we're all familiar with on a certain sports television station say that they saw shades of Mac Jones out there yesterday. I didn't see anything. It's a little heavy. I didn't see anything resembling matching. I'm not responsible for Michael Holley's comments. All right, he's named him now. That's out there. Okay. I mean, it's all over the other action. I did not see it that way. I saw a young quarterback who struggled yesterday. I see he shades of Mac Jones, physically at all. Aren't you comfortable with him? Paul, where are you going? Paul, I love you. All right, he's got a real podcast to get to. Well, it's a streaming radio program. That's true. It turns into a podcast. This is just us holding his J bond Baker coming off the field guy. Get a couple gator raids and get ashamed. He's still going to be a thing. I'm telling you, he's still going to be a thing. You give him time. He's going to be a thing. The hype train has pulled out of the station. And I for one and a fan. Oh, by the way, I didn't want to get you to take on this. I'm not sure if you addressed it yesterday on six rings. The whole idea that Mayo, I was confirmed on the up and Adam show, K Adam show on FanDuel TV. He basically confirmed he hasn't spoken to Bella checks and spell check. We're done with the team and Mayo took over. Some of us knew that. Yeah, that was kind of a hidden secret. Yeah. An obvious secret. Open secret. Sneaky not so hidden secret. And I saw a lot of you people reacting to the show. What does that matter? I don't know. He was his mentor. He begged him to join his staff five years ago. And now he falls him. Yeah. I mean, did Jarod do anything wrong? Nothing. No, he was offered a job. I don't know if that's the right answer. Well, I'm guessing that he did he signed a contract to take over for Bill Belichick. Why? That's weird. Didn't Bill Belichick once signed a contract to take over for Bill Parcells? Oh, he's doing it. He said somewhere else in Jarod Mayo, Bill sees himself. There's some of that. The student became the teacher. Tell me this. Also, I haven't heard Bill Belichick at times. I think he got a little bit out over your skis on that one. Yeah, it's fine. She's stopped me if you've heard this before, but I feel like sometimes people have said previously Bill Belichick can be a scotch petty. No, it's actually what I love about him. One of the things I truly love about Bill Belichick is he's petty. He holds a grudge and like nobody says he's a competitive actor. He's a true New Englander. That's why we that's why we embrace. I do think he and I are more alike than probably he would like to admit. Super tight podcast thus far. Let's keep it going. Yeah, I blame the post. I could do no right in this life. That's true. Yeah. You keep your wife on my toes. I'm right. I'm right. Two beautiful children out there sweltered in the heat trying to get an autograph. So basically, I think for people that weren't here that just want to hear what's going on in the day following the jute on impasse with the head coach. I agree with you. I think it was the right move from for Jarod Mayo to stand up to it and say like look, we're not doing this out here. It's free to go. We didn't show up today. We'll find out if there's been discipline to find both neither. Look, these are this is now we're in the grind. Remember last Wednesday when it kicked off, we said it felt like an extension of OTAs. Not a slapping tickle, but it was everyone going back to school and reporting to camp. Then they kind of got into it. Yesterday was the first day of pads. Now they're probably all a little bit sore. They're kind of grinding it out a little bit. We are exactly where we should be in this part of the process. It doesn't look electric or super sexy at times. It's not going too with times. We can't just funnel all sorts of information to the Twitter sphere and the aggregators. It says like, watch out, drink may 17 for 16 with 19 touchdowns. Sorry. It's a process and he's going to stumble, fall and learn along the way. Those were some statistics. Those were some shots. He completed more passes than he threw and he had more touchdowns than passes thrown. That's impressive. He's got to be damaged. He's a legend. Now I'm officially Will Chamberlain. He's more crazy from the heat. A couple of other people like to shout out. Ticwan Thornton looking a little bit better, but still not like the cheese and you're taking it. I told you, I'm like a little rat there. I wouldn't trip off season and now I probably am. He looks good. One-on-ones. He looked really good. Jalen Rager. I think he's making this team and I think he's making the team too. It may not be it. You and I had postured that it would be on special teams with some possible wide receiver use at this point now. I think he's making the receiver room. I think he is too, but I do want to warn it's early. Much like people wanted to warn me yesterday when I gave you a simple observation about Drake May. It is early and I go back to, I believe it was Maurice Harris about six years ago. People are like, oh my god, he's awesome. Working with Brady, he might catch 85 or 90 balls any good cut. It can go either way. You can come out of nowhere, make the team, or you can look like you're well on your way to making the team and you end up, now I will say this isn't the most talented team in the world. I don't know how much of a crunch for roster spots there really will be. Certainly the wide receiver position is the most competitive spot on the roster in my opinion. Juju is fascinating. People are writing him off. Does he get open? No. Does he catch the ball sometimes? Yeah. Like he caught a touchdown from Milton from Joe Milton. Did you see women on the Dolphins? My favorite part of that? Did he take his helmet off or pump his fist? He pulled a Larry Bird. He threw the throw at the pass on like a little slant skinny post for a touchdown. Before it got to Juju, he turned around with his finger up in the game. He called him shot. He's the most likable player on the field. Joe Milton, the backflips, the fans love it. Yep. He actually had a sneaky good day throwing the football today. Again, coming at the cost of Bailey Zappi just standing there with his arms crossed, watching a football practice. Bailey Zappi should just join the media because he watches as much as we do. He may as well be a better view point, better angle, but other than that, he is media. Ray, you look good. Jonathan Jones, look good today. And Jonathan Jones prevented what would have been the best pass or actually, I believe was the best pass Drake may has thrown in a Patriots uniform. One on ones, it was to KJ Osborne down the right sideline, deep ball. He let go of it early, throw into a spot, dropped it right in the bucket, KJ caught it. And just as he's about to tuck it away, the veteran Jonathan Jones did the punch away for the incompletion from a rate may perspective, he could not have thrown a better football against. And I find the coverage of Jonathan Jones, one of your best, not taking advantage of some guy nobody's ever heard of. Right. Also, Jonathan Jones related, getting significant reps at safety with Jabril Peppers out of action. He was out here with a left leg sleeve. They believe it's a bit of a calf tweak from yesterday, also David Andrews today as well. That's concerning two days in a row. Some people were like, Hey, David Andrews veteran day off. Well, you don't get to in a row day. Especially after a day off, because that's three days off. I have no idea. I hope it's you know, there were some rumblings, maybe it's off the field or whatever. Hopefully it's nothing major. But yeah, there is going to be something at best be early as opposed to later once we get into pretend football game season. Yep. Yep. So which we are as of today, nine days from t minus nine nine days, Mrs. Vuehler in nine days, you're knowing when Patriots play their first pretend season game here seven o'clock from the razor against the Carolina Panthers, which I think will be a rather interesting affair. I am going to make a prediction. Okay. Patriots win that game and win it by a wide margin. You heard it here first, ladies and gentlemen, that one off save that take. Yeah, I think they want to win. And that's one of the few teams you might be more talented than. And we're going to end every podcast now going forward. New segment. We like to do our new segments on the fly here on six rings and football things on the hard hoe scale. We'll call it. Okay. I like it. Each and every day. I want to find out, are you any closer to believing that they're you've said famously here on the airwaves and on the podcast infamous team could rather infamously famously to me, infamously to the most of my people that this is a zero to six wing team. So where are they on that sliding scale on the heart hoe scale? Where are they closer to today? Today, I would say they are closer to zero. And part of that is the fact of injuries, which play a role in my look at the season, because I don't think they're overly talented. And if you lose talent along the way, obviously, that's an issue. I would say their best defensive player, Christian Barmore, isn't practicing. We have no idea when he's going to be available now. Matthew Judo overlook that for maybe their maybe their second best defensive player, Matthew Judo is in the dog house is not on the field. He may not play this year for this football team. Offensively, I've said it all along. You have two offensive linemen on Wenu and Andrews. One of them wasn't out there for the last two practices. So these play into my theory of how a season can go from bad to worse. So if you were going to ask me from bad to worse, we're we're at like a one on the hardo meter today. And that's the not great Bob report from Andy Hart on the hard one. Let me share this quick interaction I had with a member of the public relations staff. We're talking and you know, he gave me his nice media guy. They do a great job this year. They always great. He's trying to talk me into using technology. They have QR codes on every player's page and you can click on it and go to their stats. And I was like, yeah, maybe no, and I walked away. But in the conversation, he said, so what do you think? I go, you want the like boiled down honest truth? We might stink. And he goes, well, I don't think we'll go four and 13. And I go, I don't think we will either. And you left it at that. I don't think he knew what I meant. Look, folks, they're going to struggle a little bit. And now is the time if there's going to be any struggle, which has been a little bit real to get through because there's nowhere to go but up. And it's still very, very early in the process. Five practices with fans in the stands in attendance down. Eight more to come is right before our eyes. Is that the Drake? Drake may walking towards the fans for autographs. He's going to give them what they want. Excuse me? He's a handsome man. He is a handsome, likable. He is a beautiful man. Yes. Can't spell out what I just need him to read past this quicker and complete that. All I know is my kids are down there. I get him to autograph something and it's going to make their day. All right, Andy, good ramble fond of a podcast right here. Once again, coming at you each and every practice, it could be any combination myself and hard or Tom Carroll or any other of our fabulous friends from Patriots Media Cartel here on Media Hill outside of Gillette Stadium. Once again, this is Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 after Pat had practiced number two practice number five overall for Patriots camp. Is it practice number six? Thank you. Oh, there's only seven practices that the fans can attend going forward. All right. There's a hot one today for sure.
