(soft music) - Hello and welcome to Leading Inspired Learning, a Strive podcast. My name is Rilika Wood, Strive Professional Learning Lead, and this is your July 2024 professional learning update. On July 9th, gather your team and or professional friends and get ready to learn and put your knowledge to the test as we compete with some friendly trivia about the new childcare center licensing manual. There will be prizes for the first, second, and third place winners. But that's not all, to fuel your brain will be indulging in some delicious food in your inks. Brush up on your knowledge while enjoying the company of fellow trivia enthusiasts and childcare professionals. We hope to see you at this memorable evening of trivia, food, and camaraderie. Kahoot will be used for trivia, so please come prepare with a phone or computer to participate. This is happening on July 9th, 638 at Fleetway in the spare room. Book tastings are typically used and generally known for engaging school-age children in a deeper understanding of selecting and enjoying books based on their favorite topics. Book tastings have become quite trendy amongst educators and teachers alike. Following in the creative footsteps of some research and exploring some ways to cold conversations about books, we have curated a selection of children's books for you to taste. Be our guests and enjoy a picnic experience while thinking about what inspires us to choose books, why we feel connected to the material and how we share them with children. Sarah and Liz, our Resource Center specialists, will also share their process for selecting books that are lent out in the early years community and are trusted to be resources for early years professionals. Join us upstairs in the classroom as we delve deeper into tasting books, July 17th, 638 to 8 p.m. Carol Garboden's Murray's Illuminating Pedagogy of Care was distributed to organizations in London Middlesex and Elgin County to follow up on work starting at the fall 2023 system-wide professional learning day, the courage to care. Check with your leadership teams for access to the center's copy and join us in diving deeper into the second lamp of care. Care is a right. Thinking with Murray's research and perspective, how do we prioritize care as a right, not only for the children we work with but for ourselves so that we can be present and give in care? How can we advocate for care as a right within a compliance-based practice? Need an extra copy? Check out our ECE Professional Resource Center. Join us virtually for this Lunch and Learn style session. Choose a time that works for you and indicate a registration where you're attending the 12 to 1 p.m. session or the 1 to 2 p.m. session. Hope to see you there. Join this month's Be Well session where we explore and reflect on all areas of self-care and personal wellness from the emotional to the psychological, to the social, physical, and professional too. Be Well is designed specifically for you. We recognize the importance of educator wellness and hope to bring a little joy to your day through fun, engaging, and reflective activities. This month, we'll be gathering in-person at Stride for a games night, which will be filled with fun and laughter. As adults, our lives are filled with work, demands, relationships, and other responsibilities which can result in fast feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Regardless of your age, games nights allow folks to unwind and connect with the others. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided as well as some fun prizes for the winners of the night. This is happening July 25th, 6.30 to 8 here at Stride. Delivering meaningful and professional learning for our early childhood education and care community is the purpose of Stride. We cannot do that without you. If there is a professional learning opportunity that you would like to see from us, please send it to us using the form on our website at www.strideswo.ca/events. Contact information is not required, but helpful if you'd like us to follow up with you. This has been your July 2024 Professional Learning Update.
