[Music] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain J. Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you now time for a shot of no shot and is brought to you by the ESPN vet alive in Illinois, set up today and the users get $100 in bonus bets with and that sports book back. We say good morning to J.W. in Northern. Good morning boys on a Wednesday, Waddle Wednesday and all NFL training NFL teams break camp today. Football back. What do you mean break camp? Everybody's starting camp. Oh they're in camp. Yeah bears that their first day off today. The gates swing open everywhere around the National Football League. There you go. That's good to see. We finally got here. We finally made it cap. So now we start to find out who's going to be solid names that we're gonna know. It's gonna be a struggle for some of these guys that get on the roster and stay on the roster. Come be some interesting battles I think. And it's super cool that we don't have any contractual drama in our camp. That's correct. The Packers are dealing with Jordan Love still not practicing because he hasn't got his deal done. They expect it to get them. Brandon Ayuk is gonna show up today but has demanded a trade. CD lamb has not showed up at Cowboys camp because he wants a new deal. Yeah we don't have to deal with any of that. Shay could you tell me the best moments of Michael Gallup as a NFL wide receiver that he was now retired after six seasons. Is it because no one wanted him or is because he just shut it down. Best moment sees not really got any. He's kind of just mid. He was like the also ran for Dallas for years. Mm-hmm. It was the guy that like Michael Gallup he's still on the team. He's always the last round pick if that and fantasy football. Mm-hmm. Just one of those guys also ran. Just shut it down man. After six seasons and by the way he's just 28 and that'll be all. That's life in the NFL. It's brutal. If you can't cut it you're not a star your career is gonna be short. Wow. And that's something before he's 30 it's done. Done. So he'll be my claim adjuster someplace somewhere soon. Wow. Here's Shay Norley. Hi I'm mr. Gallup. I'm here. General casual the insurance. Exactly. Okay. The edge Russia market is drying up Emmanuel Agba signed in Miami. Interestingly Miami brought in Janik and Gakwe for a workout and then signed Emmanuel Agba. I don't know if that tells you anything about in Gakwe. He doesn't fit their scheme as well as Agba. He's about the only worthwhile edge Russia left in free agency. Janik and Gakwe bears obviously drafted Kansas edge Austin Booker. They brought in journeyman Jake Martin. He's been getting starter snaps at camp so far and we know Matt Eberfluce wants pressure from the middle of his defense. That's good news that Jervon Dexter worked himself to get into quote marathon shapes that he cut out snack foods started running hills doing a lot of workouts so that he could run faster have better endurance. My question shot or no shot the bears pass rush can actually be built internally. Oh yeah that's a shot. It can be sure. If you feel like you don't want to in Gakwe and you feel like as is on the depth chart we could be able to build to a position where you can be able to get to the quarterback along with Montez sweat. Sure. Sure. Are you in Gakwe away from being a dominant defense? No but it solidifies the other side of that defense. It's a nice extra piece. Sure. But as is it is it bad? It's not bad. Oh not bad. Are you a will you be sore if in Gakwe's not around? You're just like oh will you be disappointed? No I mean yes and no he's okay. There's a reason the guys on a different team every year. It's okay. Yeah. At some point it is about developing your own talent. Correct. And maybe you develop and play some of your younger guys and then at the trade deadline like they did the last two years you acquire somebody. I'll just put it this way to me it's not a must cap. It'd be a nice to have. If that makes sense. Beyond nice to have but if he's not there why can't we look at Dravon Dexter someone you drafted a couple years ago. Why can't Demarcus Walker? Why can't Andrew Billings be able to fill the back pick and neck pickings fill the bill. Yeah agreed. Is Dominic Robinson a just a one-off or can he actually play consistent football. Right Austin Booker the kid that we drafted. So we'll see. Yeah. Okay. All right well the Bears wide receiver core surprisingly might have a little depth after all the reports out of training camp. Are there Caleb Williams seems to be falling in love with finding Tyler Scott on deep routes hit him on a 40 yard bomb yesterday seems to be hitting him on deep bombs daily based on the reports that we're getting out of Hallis Hall. We know Roma Dunes a Keenan Allen DJ more the Bears have physical receivers they have some route technicians what they don't have is a guy that's just a pure vertical threat to take the top off of a defense. Tyler Scott could potentially be that guy so shot or no shot. Tyler Scott can be the Bears pure vertical threat. I'm thinking about last year stop stop get that out of your mind. Yeah I'm gonna say no shot he's a fourth receiver on this team. Can he catch a few deep balls cheery speedy that's what he's here for. Fourth receiver clearly but he's the only guy that's got that breakaway speed. I mean put him on the outside and four receiver sets and burn someone. I'm gonna need to stop thinking about that play last year. The one against the Troy. Please stop doing that really bother. See that's why he's not giving me any credit that one play. The ball should have went to him anyway cap in that spot. Correct. Yeah big play. You give it to rookie. Remember Olin? After not sizing me. Absolutely not. Okay so it's just so we're clear. It's a fourth receiver cap. That's no shot. Right but you said he's the what was your words say he's the only he's the he's the guy on the team that's got that pure breakaway speed. He can cook someone. He's not a route technician. He's not a specialist. He's not a physical guy. He's not going to bump guys off coverage. Just so you know. His 40 time versus Roma Dunes A is one one hundredth of a second different. 4 4 4 4 4 5. No I'm not saying that anybody on the team is slow but Rome is a different style of receiver. He's more physical before the ball gets out. But he could still run. Yeah no I'm not saying you can. Yeah he's not your big play deep. Yeah he'll catch some balls. No doubt. Sure. Justin like going to him. It's a it's a no shot. I'm glad he's on the team because I'm not gonna throw him out because he had some some sketchy plays and I think some of that feels some of that's on Tyler Scott that's for sure but again he's a rookie. I'm not throwing young players away Shea so I would say that he will be able to be it can be a factor on this team. You have more you have a Dunes A you have Allen but Scott can be a factor in the offense yes. And by the way DJ Moore 4 4 2. So he's faster. Still 4 4 2. Where'd you get that from? Sports Kita. Uh no from the NFL back up. Okay DJ Moore when he was drafted I mean he's not an old guy still in his 20s. He ran a 4 4 2. Again I'm not calling anybody slow but when you think of DJ Moore you don't think of the guy running deep routes consistently burning corners you think of a more technical physical kind of receiver similar with Roma Dunes A. Tyler Scott doesn't have that skill set. He's just a burner. You see Shea I know you're trying but he can't get that play against you try it out of his mind. I'm telling you this guy's just microscope on Tyler Scott drop one ball he's dead now. Again I'm glad he's here. Yes I am. He's got speed. I'm sure he's going to catch a bomb one day and we're going to go well that was cool but he's not their only deep threat that's all I'm saying. Bayles Jones is going to make the football team. Looks like it huh. He'd better be able to return kicks. Just asking like I mean because as we look through the depth chart Tyler Scott's going to be there and I think that we're so wild by the first three from the wide receivers Moore Dunes A. Allen but and then you've got two tight ends in combat and Everett. Scott could be able to get a few balls too. Don't forget also you'll get DeAndre Swift could be in a passing game as well. Short passing game of course. So Scott could be like a decoy and hopefully it's not fourth down in a big spot. No I like what are you doing throwing at him. You got three other dudes. He would be a pleasant surprise on this team to be able to be a factor. Tyler Scott. Be great. Shay. I made money on him last year. Remember when Tyson Bajan had to start. Hoodie text me play Tyler Scott over like 12 and a half receiving yards. Bam. Cash City. Absolutely. Shay Norley. All right. The White Sox are close to letting me have fun again. They lost their ninth straight game last night falling to 27 and 76 on the season. If you keep and score at home the 120 lost 1962 New York Mets through this many games were 26 and 77. You are right on pace if you're the White Sox to be the worst team in MLB history but there's another record that they could still attain and if they lose 10 straight I'm willing to say they're on track for it. Shot or no shot if the White Sox lose their 10th straight game tonight. Another double digit losing streak. I can reopen the road to 24 straight losses. That is a shot. You can open up that road. I thought that road was closed cap. Did you couldn't get your vehicle through there? But now it looks like the people in the county have opened up that road again. Yes. It's a Chevy Silverado. You know. Yes. The road is tough. Get your Chevy Silverado. Yes. And Shay your Silverado HD will be able to absolutely maneuver toward 24 especially if that was the last start. The socks you wore for Garrett crochet. Well cap let me just tell you. The way the White Sox have you know not necessarily baby crochet but they've been very very careful with crochet because they don't want to give another team someone that has a tired arm. It's almost like cap if we don't see crochet again in the White Sox uniform it's almost like they tailored it to make sure that crochet does not have another start at guaranteed rate. Like all right your last one's gonna be on the road. We're not gonna deal with the hecklers at guaranteed rate that's gonna be pissed that we're trading you because that's the last thing you want cap. I don't care how many people are really there at guaranteed rate. The last thing you want is the booze and the hisses from us Sox fans. This the guy you're trading away. Look at this guy 10 strikeouts. That's the residue on the road. All right. That's all. That'll be all because I don't think he'll make that Sunday start. I think he's next. I think his next start Sunday against Seattle. Yeah he won't see that start. They're next 11 games. You get the last two against Texas with Chris Flexin and Jonathan Cannon. Then you get three against Seattle. Very good team. You get three against Kansas City. Very good team. Three on the road against Minnesota after the trade deadline. Minnesota's been one of the best teams in baseball since that awful April. That's correct. Where it gets tricky is three against Oakland but that will come after the sell off. Yeah. And so because of that, that's almost even money that the a's could win those games. And here's why. But here's why though. It's not because of lack of pitching. It's not because the ball club is hitting. I think right now it's under 200 would run the scoring position as a ball club under 200 cap. Who would run the scoring position. It's because of this horse bleep defense that they play as well because Pedro will get him right. He'll he'll learn them the right way. This nonsense with Nikki Lopez yesterday. You got a runner at first and runner at third. The catcher that Corey Lee throws down a second base. Instead of of Nikki Lopez tagging out the runner at second. He's all over the place to run score. So it's a steal of home. Yeah. It ends up being a double steal. Yes. The IQ is so bad on this team. But Pedro will learn them. Right. How horrible was that play yesterday? Oh, it was ridiculous. Cap. I cover college baseball in the Missouri Valley. Players would not even do that in the Missouri Valley. No. Nikki Lopez. Hey man, you got to make a play. Either throw it home or make sure you get the runner at second base. It can't be a double steal in that spot. Were there two outs in that spot? Leave it was. Come on, man. Brutal. Brutal. So because of that, it's a shot, Shay, because if it's not for the pitching, it'll be because of the defense and the lousy hitting. The road to 24. Shay's right. Shay's right. Maybe they can get Jack Bauer to come out. I'm taking the padlock off the gate today. And if the white Sox lose tonight, I will open it wide. Get your cars ready. Grab your engines. Jamor's got to get that sounder from 24. Got to have it. That CTU ringtone. Yes. Yeah. 100%. What did you give in the update, the pitching match up? Did you say I think I missed it? I think it's flexing tonight, Jonathan Cannon tomorrow, right? Flexing against Evaldi. Yep. That's a loss. Yep. I mean, listen, we're always trying to hand the audience money. Like you just keep betting against the white Sox. I did. Yes. I mean, I know it's not a lot of value, but it's something, right? Right. So again, Moneyline, Texas Rangers last night. That'll be all. Yeah. Play that with the under in the Cubs game. Sure. That's a good combo lately, isn't it? It is. A Sox loss in the under in the Cubs game. More times than not, it'll cash. That'll be all. That's a good combo. Keep doing that for about 10, 12 games. See how many times you hit. Team can't hit. Team can't win. Huh. How about that? By the way, Cap, if they continue to lose, guess who the game for 24 straight losses would be against the cubby. That's right. It would be the cross town series against the Cubs at the rate. Oh boy, you're not going to win that. A couple win. No, no, don't put that on me. If we get 23 and we get the right on the doorstep of the record and the Cubs ruin it, I will never let this man live it down. One nothing to one to one. Backward more in a moment here on the Cubs radio network. I mean, that's what it's going to be. We go around the NFL and don't forget it's a waddle Wednesday. We talked to Tommy at 835, Captain Jhood on ESPN 1000. Also on our YouTube channel. Welcome back. Welcome back to Captain Jhood on Chicago's on for sports. ESPN Chicago, it both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football developer. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is from, but there we go. This is not Detroit man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts the comedy. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? Time to go around the NFL right here on the Captain Jhood Morning Show on a ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. I'd like to remind you to go to our YouTube channel, the Captain Jhood YouTube channel. We have our own channel cap. People just need to subscribe that way. If they miss anything, the clips or as Cap would tell you, the little chunks would be there right there on our YouTube channel. Yeah, the little chunks of the show that we do like the best of what it's called. Yeah. Now he calls it the little chunks, Jaymore, little chunks. They do a podcast someday called will chunks. Ridiculous. Jaymore reminds me of the shorts, but no, that's what cap calls them. Cap calls with the little chunks. That makes sense. Around the NFL, here's Shane or like Shane. All right. Remember the game show, Deal or No Deal? Yeah. We're going to play big deal or no big deal with some training camp storylines as camps open up around the NFL today. Still on internationally. Still a big deal. Deal or no deal island. I watched the new reality show. It's like survivor mixed with dealer. No deal. What do you think of that? Fantastic. It's a different twist on it, isn't it? Granted, it was only good because they pulled a Boston Rob and old survivor star. Yeah. He was the only thing worth watching, but it was an excellent first season. I'm excited about that. I have seen that. It's a combo platter. It's a combo. It's a combo show. Yeah. So we have big deal or no big deal for training camp storylines. We're going to start in Cincinnati. Joe Burrow fully cleared for contact ahead of training camp. Is this a big deal or no big deal? That's a big deal. Hey, it's not a big deal because it was expected. It wasn't like, oh God, he's back. No, it's a big deal. It also is a big deal. He's got his new haircut. Yeah. Have you seen it looking like WWE champion Cody Rhodes? Looks good. If I had hair, I'd love to go blurm. Really? Would you have that shaved look like Joe Burrow has now? Looks like Eminem. Has an Eminem look, yes. Short, tight, bright blonde. I've had a bet with Waddle back in the day. The start of the year, I was bullish on the Cubs and Waddle ran his mouth and said, oh, the Reds are going to be better. So let's bank a wager. He said, okay, loser has to dye their hair platinum blonde. Dude, Waddle had to die. Cubs had a great year. The Reds were horrible. He had to dye his hair platinum blonde. Ask him. Oh my God. Platinum blonde Tom Waddle. That's funny. They bleached his hair. Skim shady. Joe Burrow. There you go. Okay, I was thinking the real slim Brady, but it doesn't really work because he's not Tom Brady. Big deal or no big deal. Jordan Love continuing to hold in at Packers camp will not practice until he has a contract. Big deal. Big deal. If he's not in there in the next couple of days, that's a big deal. Big deal. If he was a bear, you'd be hitting the roof right now. I would. Now the GM has come out and I'm cool with him not practicing. We're working to get this done. But that was two days ago. Like what's taking so long here, either going to pay him what he wants and he's going to agree or it's not getting done. It is true that it will get done. It's just that like any training camp, you don't want to have any controversy. Like we just talked about the NFL piece that's up there at house hall. The football piece, meaning that you don't have controversy. All right. Where's our offensive lineman? Is the quarterback on a sign? What's up with the wide receiver? The wide receivers waiting for the quarterback to find out what his rookie deal is. No controversy. And that's what you want. You want to keep it clean. You want to have a clean camp and focused on trying to get to the goal. Packers? Jordan Love holding out. Better get that deal done. I think it is a big deal. Pretty good kid. Shane, big deal or no big deal. Brandon Ayuk holding in amid a trade demand with the 49ers. Right. Cause you get fine with like a hundred grand a day. That's a big deal. Yeah. And it's you cannot rescind him. That's the new in the collective bargaining. You can't go. All right. Wave the fine. No. You don't allow that. I don't care how much you make. That's a hundred grand. Right. City Lam said I'm not coming until the first game. That gives me shivers. Losing a hundred grand. I don't care how much you make up. That's a lot. And he's playing in California. Oh God. How much money is he really getting back? Right. Oh, like one state you could never get me to move to. Cal, nothing. Yep. Any other states you'd like to draw out there? That I wouldn't move to. Yeah. Go ahead. Top five. Yeah. I'm not moving to Utah. I'm not moving to Montana. New Mexico is not really my jam. Damn. I can keep going. Massachusetts. I'm not moving there. So. Shane. You got one more? That's the kids. One more? Yeah. Yeah. Nebraska. I'm not moving there either. All right. Or the Dakotas. So your thoughts on how you I believe it is a big deal. That is a big deal. He wants to be moved, Shay. That is an absolute big deal. Captain. Do you think that he'll be traded, guys? No. Do you think he will? No. I think it's only a big deal if they actually do trade him. And I don't really buy that they're going to because the price is going to be enormous. And then the acquiring team has to pay him a huge deal. Right. And they're trying to win the Super Bowl of 49ers. They don't want draft capital to look back. I think he wants to be in San Francisco. He just wants to be paid. Yeah. And deserves it, by the way. Yeah. He's the best receiver on the team. Yeah. Including Devo. Yep. Agreed. Shane. Big deal or no big deal. We'll stick with receivers developing story this morning. CD lamb will not report to camp amid contract negotiations with the Cowboys. That is a big deal. Big deal. He says I'm not going to be there until the week of the first game. It's like three million in fines. He doesn't care. He's in Texas. He's good. It's good. No state tax. Right. He's fine. No problem. That's too much drama cap. Along with the drama that ESPN provides on television and radio, talking about the Cowboys every half hour. Where are the Cowboys? Are they going to play deck? What's with Jerry Jones? Blah, blah, blah. Is already pressure. McCarthy. Will he return? All of that is all part of that, which is brew in the Lone Star state. Right. That's why idiots are the people betting on the Cowboys. Shane. All right. This next one is you just hear what he said there. Yeah. Well, at least he isn't. We banned them. Yeah. For now. He'll slide it in. It's a fine guy. You have a ticket on the Cowboys. You're dead to me as a friend. Wow. Will be nothing but co-workers. Wow. Here's Shane. So in other words, the relationship chain I have. Here's Shane. Oh, wow. Shane, go ahead. This immunity is the biggest deal happening at all training camps right now. And it's probably one of the least talked about. Oh, son Rhettick is holding out of Jets camp without a contract. This is the biggest deal to me because it just goes to prove how stupid some of these front office managers are. Some of these GMs are just playing fantasy football with someone else's money and they're dumb. And Joe Douglas is one of them because why on earth did you trade for us on Rhettick if you weren't going to pay him? Right? Abs 100%. Yeah. Like, what did you think he's going to ask you for free Uber rides? No, let's get paid. Come on, man. So Hassan Rhettick, big deal, right? Big deal. He's a hell of a player. That's the guy I wanted to bear us to trade for. What did they give up to get him? They gave up a conditional third round draft pick to acquire him from the Eagles. Knowing he wanted a contract. Let me ask you some of these. If the Jets called you today and said, hey, we want next year's third round pick, we'll give you a Rhettick right now. Don't you do it? Don't. Don't. Don't. And you know what, I'd also pay him. Right. I'd give up next year's second and pay him. Tommy, would you do that? If you had a choice, Hassan Rhettick, defensive end for your third round pick? Yes, I would. They'll probably ask for cash, too. I like cash considerations. We're big on the cash considerations. I'm gonna cash you. Right. I would like the cash as well. That'd be awesome. You couldn't get me off the phone quick enough. Yes, do it. We got to get this paperwork to the league office before you ever come to Jesus moment. Tommy, we have killed the Bears' organization over the years, because again, the one lost record is what it is. But I think that when you think about the Giants and the Jets, and we've talked about them both here so far this morning, I mean, you talk about an expose on the Giants. It's been this whole hard knocks thing to think. What they've gone through, and I just think it shows you the ineptitude of both organizations. I mean, Hassan Rhettick could be an anchor for your team. He's holding out. I mean, I think that the, you know, Aaron Rodgers needs as much help as possible. Hassan Rhettick will be one of those guys on the defensive side. Yeah, Hassan Rhettick and his last, he was just checking his numbers, and they're more even more impressive than I thought they would be for the last four. He's been a double digits sack guy in each the last four years. And in 2022, I believe that was the year the Eagles went to the Super Bowl, right? Do they go Super Bowl in 2022? Or maybe they got close. Anyway, he had 16 sacks. So yeah, I mean, he's a beast. He's 29 years of age. You know, haven't seen the Giants. Heard a lot of great stuff. Miller's been watching it. And but I've seen some of the clips. I can't believe that some of the things that they're saying and doing is being this being broadcast. That should have been edited. It's an expose in the organization. Yeah. I mean, and if I'm, if you're Ryan Polls, you don't, you know, like, you know, that the coaches in front office, people in the NFL, they protect their secrets, like it's national security, you know, like they do go overboard a little bit. But you don't want anyone else knowing your business. That's like, you know, that's confidential between you and the Giants. But you find out that the Bears had a deal potentially in the works for the six pick of the draft, if in fact, certain things happen. Like, I don't I can't imagine the Bears front office was happy to see that broadcast. I just think that when it comes to the Bears and hard knocks, there has to be multiple people in the theater room saying, no, no, no. Well, we don't have well, I don't care if it's 10 minutes. We're not putting all that out there. Nope. Nope. Episode one is seven minutes. I mean, seriously, I'm not putting any of my business up, not like that. I will tell you, polls is excited. They're doing it. Well, I think he should be because I think it's, it's great that I think that they've got a brand that needs this boost. And I think it's worth boosting because I think they've done a really good job. He wants the rest of the league to know, wow, things are different in Chicago. Yeah, but I just don't need you knowing all of my business. That's fair. It's a Waddle Wednesday. We'll hear from Tommy coming up next on Cap and Jayhood. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Cap and Jayhood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Tom Waddle. Tom Waddle. Former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears. 1989 all Madden team and afternoon co-host on ESPN Chicago. I think he's going to start at least eight games in the National Football League next year for a team that's going to give him a chance. It's Waddle Wednesday with Tom Waddle. Listen, I got a pedicure in an hour. When I get back here, the wheels better be spinning, all right? On cap and dream. ESPN Chicago. And Tommy's on the hotline. That's the car X. Tiring on the hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Morning, Tommy. How are you? Good. How are you guys? Tommy, I heard you talking about my Giants. Okay. You heard me? Don't enjoy it. Well, they are a Samarican football guys, aren't they? The way they carry themselves? Like, what's his name? The coach has got his feet propped up on the table. One, Jack did win however long since Eli Manning was running around. That is true. That is true. They want a road playoff game a couple of years ago. That's true. Daniel Jones led them to a road win. That's true. Maybe they're still kept. Maybe they're still feeling, you know, they're chesty over that. Maybe. I would say that there is an expiration date on that. But did you see the audio of the video audio of Joe Shane sitting there going, okay, we could get a third and a fourth. Yeah. From Chicago, we'll give them back a fifth, and then they go nine to six. He goes, and I think they're coming up to get Joe Alt the tackle. No, you're not. Were you not in the room when we had this conversation before the before the break cap? Or do you just ignore me? Because you just I was not in the room. I was in the bathroom. Oh, okay. So thank you to ask it. Thank you for being jerky about it. But I was not here. What happened? Did you have to do a potty? You do one or two? I drink a lot of coffee and water this morning, like for light water. So I I'd answer your question. You're right. That was a big move by me to. So, um, but yeah, I did see and that's what that was my point about, like, I don't know why the other 31 front office guys would want their business being out there on HBO, you know, unless they wanted to put it out there. So Tommy, it's out here on X on Twitter. I don't know why my broadcast partner would put a big statement on Twitter and not on the radio show, but it's cap after all. He's responding to someone on Twitter that says, you know, hey, rich eyes and believes that the Chicago Bears can is the sleeper pick this season for the NFC Championship. And, and Joe Dajakomo says, what do you say? And cap says, well, why do you think I already have a ticket on the Bears to win the NFC and the Super Bowl? Didn't didn't do it on the radio. Put it on Twitter at 1039 last night. Kiss of death, or is it possible? I don't think his bets have anything to do with the destiny of this football team. But, um, you know, listen, we we bet on on more ridiculous stuff, don't we? On a pretty pretty much daily basis. So, um, it's a shot of me in my WNBA picks. That's not true. You know, that, that, you know, those are calculated bets. You have a long history of being on the right side of most of those wagers. Look, I mean, maybe, I think that as a show, maybe you guys need to have a conversation after today's award winning performance and just say, hey, maybe save that for the show tomorrow morning that, hey, I got a ticket on them to win the Super Bowl and the NFC championship game. But listen, we know that the cap is all in, like, all in. So, I'm not surprised. Live life, fall in, Tommy. See, there you go. That's not surprised. Even if it's off the radio show, you should see his baseball takes on the Cubs that never get to the end. Those are just the texts he sends me. I would imagine. So, Tommy, in, we've been talking football. I want to talk baseball with you. Oh, no, you don't. Yeah, I do. Because Red, they suck. Your show with Sylvie yesterday. I hear you guys talking. And Sylvie and I are in a good place where I won't last. Wow. Oh, it will shake. Don't you dare just chime in with, oh, come on. You know, for a fact, it's not going to last. It will last. Well, I mean, we have not got that. I'm not. Oh. I do always love Sylvie and I are in a good place right now. And like, you should be. That's the way, you know, I mean, like, what do you mean? Right. It's a quarterly relationship. Q one, bad place. Q two, good place right now. And here's the deal. I think with Cubs-related stuff, I think you guys agree on more than you disagree about, but yet somehow, some way it gets to be acrimonious at times, even though you're probably saying the same stuff. Some way. So I interviewed Jim Bowdoin yesterday for my podcast. And Jim Bowdoin believes that Jed will get one more year. He also would not trade Jameson Taio. I would. He said, if you're trying to contend next year, which you better be in the final year of his deal, where are you finding a guy that pitches as well as he does at that number? He goes, it's he goes, take it from a guy who did it for 16 years. It's not that easy to put a rotation together. He also would be adding on now. He said, I'm not giving up my top prospects, but there are middling moves you can make that help your team. He goes, because if you get in, you're three and a half back with that pitching, you can absolutely beat somebody. Yeah, this is why I agree with Sylvia. I'd trade Jameson Taion. What do you think you're getting for? I don't know something that, you know, that will be helpful going forward. You realize that Jameson Taion, aside from the 2022 season where with the Yankees, he had a 3.91 ERA, he hasn't been sub four since 2018, which is a lifetime ago. The point I'm making is, is that in 30 starts in 2023 or 30 games, you had 29 starts. He had a 4.84 ERA. Which Jameson Taion are you getting in 2025? Well, I'll see your stats and I'll tell you that entering play last night when he went seven and a third of one run baseball, because they couldn't put the inherited runner away, his ERA in that timeframe, 33 starts, eighth best among all Major League pitchers. Which means, and that's what I would, I would raise that flag and I would tell people come and get him and you know what, you're going to have to pay pretty, you know, he's going to bring back something pretty good in return. It's just what are you ready to win now, Cap? Now, I don't know. There's three and a half and now they're four and a half back. They lost last night, but again with the red next season next year, you better be contending. Well, but but but but, but, Cap, and Silly's point, which I agree with this is who what what Cubs fans going to say, boy, we were going to regret trading Jameson Taion. Who's your third starter? Who's having a career year? But what if he reverts back to the guy that was throwing it in 2022 and 2023? And then that's a guy you can just add Willie Nilly. Like you can add that. And that's where Jim Bowden disagrees. Well, Jim's got more baseball knowledge than me, but we're, you know, neither one of us is a GM right now, right? That's true. I don't think you're getting a gig and I'm not sure he is either. You don't think anyone how about the Savannah bananas just for, you know, what's in giggles, they wouldn't hire me to be the GM? Probably not. No, look, I have an appreciation for Taion. I watch pretty much every every pitch he made last night. He's throwing the ball great, which is why maybe you could, you know, you could get something pretty good for him in a trade, not knowing who he's going to be next year at the age of 33. Okay, we'll see. They may move them. They may. I would just point as he would he would add on, not for your top prospects, but he would add something to the team. Well, listen, I mean, Sylvia went through this process as well. Like there's a long history, recent history of the cubs doing just that. Yeah, but all of the guys, Sylvia listed it, all valid guys. Every one of them you traded on a team that had no expectation and was not good. 2012, 2013. You weren't even trying to win. Well, you are next year. If you don't go to the playoffs, Jed's gone. But my point is, is that you can actually, again, I'm agreeing with you, you can add pieces to your puzzle that aren't just for this season. They are guys that can be core pieces going forward for the next two or three years. It's what I said to you a month and a half ago when the talk was the big polar bear may be available. Like you're not a rental player away from being a World Series contender. So if you're going to trade for someone like at that time, it was Pete Alonzo. My point to you was as long as he's in your fold for the next three to five years. Cool. If you're renting him thinking he's what gets you over the top, then I think that that's a faulty piece of logic. More of Cap and Waddle right around the corner. Wow, right here on WGN. Truth of the matter is you're listening to Cap and Jay Hood on ESPN 1,000 weekdays 7 to 10 a.m. But it'll last a lifetime. It may only be three hours a day, but it'll last you a lifetime. It's a Waddle Wednesday on the Cap and Jay Hood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Still to come at nine o'clock, Cap, we're going to hear from Lincoln Riley, who was on on Sportsman like the show that comes on before us between five and seven. Here on ESPN 1000, Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams, college coach. He's going to talk about Caleb Williams. We'll hear that coming up at nine o'clock, but we're talking to Tommy Waddle on the Waddle Wednesday. Tommy, does the computer scare you? Does technology scare you? Yeah, you know that. Like I'm an idiot when it comes to technology. I couldn't even put on a podcast yesterday trying to drive downtown. Like I'm just stupid beyond stupid when it comes to technology and it does scare me. Space scares me, Jonathan. Technology scares me. Well, the reason why I ask is because Cap watches up first. He saw this. They sell the team that's on the bull's website. Yeah. Cap, it's a sell the team. They got hacked yesterday. Correct. The white, the did it get hacked or did they like captive? They have the domain and they purchased it maybe before the investment group that I don't know. I think might have been hacked because the bull's tweeted out that link. It's to the new project on the west side by the United Center, seven billion dollars between the what works and rhinestore families to develop that entertainment district. And this guy revealed himself on Twitter last night. Oh, yeah. I'm the guy. Yeah. That's funny. Oh, my God. So, you have to be fearful of these things. And also, you watch something on social media and you think it's real. And you're like, you're getting ballsacked like Steve Kerr about Team USA. Listen to Steve Kerr, his thoughts. Our team clearly isn't ready to compete at the Olympics. That's why I've decided to make a change to the roster. I wanted to announce here in front of everyone that we've decided to add Bronnie James to Team USA. After talking to LeBron, he convinced me that what our team really needs is an undersized guard who can't shoot. So there you have it, folks. I can't wait to see Bronnie and LeBron win a gold medal together. How scary is that? Is that the AI generated? Yeah. You saw just wow. Did you see the Mike McDaniel one talking about Tyree Kill as well? Yes. Like, this is going too far. It's going too far. Yep. I mean, you, I mean, I saw the video, you hear the audio, even the cap's eyes raised for us. Like, he's putting Bronnie on the team. Take that. No, it's A.I. Steve Kerr, but that's scary as hell. It is. It is. It's horrible. Because, of course, you're not, cap, you're not looking at your phone so closely. It's down here by your lap or to your cup holder and you hear the sound like Steve Kerr's putting Bronnie on the team. What the f is that? He says the team's not very good. Look, I said a long time ago that social media actually said this in a seminar at Northwestern with a bunch of other sports media people I got laughed at. I said social media will be the downfall of our society. And I've, I don't make many statements that you're correct. But that one, I will, when I pass, whenever that is, I want that on my, my headstone. Or, you know what, I'm not going in the ground. As I've told you guys, I'm going to be stuffed and passed around from future generation to generation here in the Wattle hierarchy. So, but that's, that is my, my focus is, is that that statement, I want to be credited for it. And I, I was just the, you know, kind of the latest avenue with regard to social media. It's awful. People are so horrible to one another. It's uncivilized. And it's just, it's why, you know what, I know it's part of our job, but I, I don't spend as much time on it as others because it just, it's my own personal protest. So take that. Yeah. Well, thank you very much. He stuck the landing there. Very well, very good, Tom. Very good. All right. Tommy, as we let you go, no football talk because the bears are off today. Bears are off today. But everything I'm hearing, the vibe is just off the charts up there and Caleb that someone yesterday said to me, dude, he is staring at Tremaine Edmonds who's sitting there 15 yards down a field going salivating. I'm going to pick this dude off. Well, and all of a sudden out of nowhere, he fires it to the other side of the field and it's DJ Moore, they're like, Justin didn't do that. Well, you know, and it's not about, listen, you're going to stoke the fires now. Oh, the cult. I know. But, but like, this is the reality. Those are the types of things that you need your quarterback. There's a really good clip, I think Robert Mays did an interview with Sean McVay, who's one of the better offensive-minded coaches in the league, obviously. And he talks about, you know, the qualities of, of quick processing and being able to function inside a dirty pocket. It's a really good clip, but that's some of that stuff, you know, and it's those are the things that we were looking for from the quarterback position. And it's one of the reasons I think that, you know, if you can play the position more efficiently, even as a rookie, and there will be bumps along the way, he will help the offensive line. He will, the ball will come out, he will protect his job first and foremost is, you know, is to protect himself, but he's going to protect his offensive lineman as well by playing the position more efficiently. So, I can understand I'm really enthusiastic, I'm very optimistic about everything. I can't wait to get up there and watch them practice. I'm not going to lie, though, I am a little unsettled about what they have at the point of attack on both sides of the football, but, you know, they don't have to play for real until, you know, the beginning of September. So, they've got enough cash and they've got enough draft currency. They've done a really nice job protecting both of those things. And if Ryan pulls wants to make a move, he can do it. Tom Waddle on hard knocks. We asked Tom his thoughts about the battle between Dante, Pedison, Tyler Scott. Can't wait. That's the answer. That won't that won't work. That out too. So, now six minute hard knocks with with the Chicago Bears. Tommy, have a wonderful day, man. I love you guys. Have a great day. We love you. Tommy. Yep. Thanks for your time. Any time, Jonathan. Someone close to Caleb Williams weighs in on his future with the Bears. That's in two minutes. Super cool. On the Captain J. Hood Morning Show.
