We say good morning to Shay W. New Orleans. Good morning, Carm Hoodie. How are we doing? Doing great, man. Wonderful. Bet. Having a good time. All right, he's up and running. I'm having a great time. You're kidding me? The IT is good to see Nick Friedal in here. Great. I love Nick so much. I mean, please. And he just brings a smile to my face all the time. It's a fantastic family. Yes, I wish he wouldn't move back here too. He's the best. It was a nice surprise to see him. I didn't know he was going to be in town. We saw him yesterday. Like I said, we were finishing up Cross Talk, me and York and Waddle and Sylvie. And Nick came walking by so I got to see him. And then he was kind of, you know, you guys were texting and he popped in. And it's I'm not going to get to see him the rest of the weekend. He's here for a bachelor party. And I've got stuff, baseball tournament way out in the burbs this week. So I'm not going to get to hang with him at all. But always great to see Nick for sure. All right, we turn the shadow. No shot. Here's Shayne Ehrling. Shayne. All right, we had a yesterday ESPN's Booger McFarland weighed in on the top two quarterbacks from last year's draft, Jane Daniels and Caleb Williams. And he was not giving a glowing review of Caleb. Listen to this. There are a lot of people out of Washington telling me that this young man, Jayden Daniels, not only does he look the part, his teammates know he looked the part and I think Caleb Williams is going to struggle. And I think Jayden Daniels is going to come out the gate flying and we're going to have this conversation greenie. Mark it down July the 16th. Whatever it is, it's 100 degrees. Did the Chicago Bears make the right pick? We're going to have this conversation again. Shot or no shot, Jayden Daniels will get off to a stronger start than Caleb Williams. That's a no shot. I just think that Caleb Williams is a ready-made quarterback. And again, we go back to the weapons. If you don't think that Caleb Williams will get off to a C.J. Stroud-like start, OK, but here's the thing. There are no excuses because he's got several running backs he can go with. He's got three wide receivers. He's got two tight ends. He's got a remade offensive line. It doesn't work automatically, but the idea that Jayden Daniels has some leg up on what I think is a ready-made team to win. I don't agree with that. Yeah, like based off of what exactly? I guess I'd like to know from Booger. And like I hear from Washington, how great he looks, his teammates love him. Well, I'm not sure what else you'd expect to hear at this time of year. From, you know, when you're talking about a kid that was the second overall pick. Booger's an LSU guy. And would Jayden Daniels went to what school? LSU. OK, thank you. Yeah, so it's maybe Jayden Daniels is better in five years. I really don't know. I like we can all pretend like we do. Nobody was talking up the fact that C.J. Stroud was going to be C.J. Stroud a year ago this time, OK, nobody or at least very few people. No, no, nobody. Yeah. So this idea that it's easy to predict or that everybody knows or I don't know. Maybe Jayden Daniels will be better in five years. I hope we're not ever having that conversation. Did the Bears do the right thing? I think Caleb's going to be terrific. I hope I'm right. Been wrong plenty of times before. I hope I'm right on this one. I don't think the Bears are going to have regrets. I don't think they'll look back. I think Caleb's going to be terrific. That's all that matters. Yeah, it's still a dumpster fire in DC, Shay. It still is. They said, OK, with the Houston thing, let's just go back just for a second car. The reason why you were right, there's nobody that thought that C.J. Stroud would be there. It's not against the kid. It's about the organization. That was part of it. You get Easter B running the organization and you're firing black coaches left and right. To me, that's exactly what was saying. Well, that's what happened, right? Then they hired another one. So at least that was good. Oh, you count them. But anyway, so. No, just kidding. No, but I mean, you're just firing coaches left and right. So what I'm saying is this is a direction. You're right. That's the point. And he's so good. And I think Demigo Ryan's needs some credit for this too. But they are elevating that franchise. C.J. That's what you want your quarterback to do. That's what you want it to look like. He is elevating that franchise. And I don't think anybody saw that coming. It was a historically good rookie year. And it's a great story. I mean, it really is. So I don't know how to compare it to Jaden Daniels. I hope it looks right and looks good here. That's what I care about more than anything else. I just feel like Caleb has a leg up on what Washington is doing. I think so too. Dan Quinn is starting from scratch. Organizationally, with a new owner starting from scratch. So I just think that Caleb will have more of an opportunity to succeed faster. I think the situation is a little bit better here. Nothing is, Jaden. Just talking about the organization, because that matters too. Yes, I will say something against Jaden. He stinks. I didn't think he was the first round pick when I watched him. That guy pulls down and scrambles when he has open receivers more than any guy I've seen. If you're asking who's going to get off to the hot or stark, I actually would lean Jaden Daniels, because he's going to run a lot more than be asked to do a lot less for his offense. People might watch him for four weeks and go, this dude's got it all. And then week 5, 6, 7, roll around. You go, oh, actually-- I assume you're saying he needs a lot of seasoning. It could fool people a little bit. No disrespect meant too much here. But the way just in at times, I think it fooled people, because it looked so spectacular with his legs and he's such a good athlete. But eventually, that well runs dry in this league. We know that. No matter how fast you are, no matter how athletic you are, everybody's athletic. Everybody's fast. And defensive coordinators, by and large, are good. And that well, inevitably, will run dry. The way it did here with Justin. Yeah, there's no question about it. But I look at Caleb Williams and I look at Jaden Daniels in these two. I look at both organizations. And I-- All two African-American quarterbacks starting against each other in the Super Bowl for the first time, fittingly. February 12th is Abe Lincoln's birthday. Here we go with the highlights. Che? Jeremy Fowler of ESPN has been releasing positional rankings. He's serving executives around the league. Cool comment did not crack his top 10 tight ends. But Jalen Johnson did crack the top 10 corners, ranked eighth. The head of him, some guys like Jair Alexander and Green Bay, new Titan, Lajarias Sneed, Chiefs Corner, Trent McDuffie. Some of the stars of the league in front of Jalen Johnson. But shot or no shot, eighth, is still too low for Jalen Johnson among cornerbacks. That's a shot. That's a shot. He's actually one of the more sure things on the Bears defensively at his position. I would agree with that. But I'm going to say no shot. Like, I think we're splitting hairs here. He's eight. Is that-- should he be seventh over Jair Alexander? I mean, aren't we getting a little too nit-picky? I don't know. I mean, I think there are clearly some guys that are better. Sauce gardener comes to mind, Pat Sertan comes to mind. McDuffie probably, even though he's a little bit younger and a little bit more inexperienced, Lajarias Sneed, I think so. I don't have too much of a problem with it. I think we're splitting hairs a little bit. No hairs? Has she been the top five, Karam? What are you talking about? That guy's a shutdown corner. He's not Deon, for God's sake, but I mean-- No, he is. But I'm saying, though, don't you think the arrow's pointing up for the young man? Yeah, I think like he trended in a great direction last year. He was hoping to get paid. He did. I think that will continue. I hope he doesn't rest on his laurels. He finally started taking the ball away a little bit. Like, he's-- yeah, I mean, I think there are plenty of positive things around Jalen Johnson. It's all trending in a good spot, as he answers his prime. Shea. The Cubs start their second half after finishing the first half somewhat hot, with much of the conversation still surrounding whether they should buy or sell at the deadline. Four games under 500 today as they start the second half. Big Cat and Sylvia heard earlier this week said they won't be bullied into believing the Cubs should be buyers, but shot or no shot. If the Cubs can get to 500 in the next 10 or so games the next couple weeks before the deadline, they'd need to go at least seven and three. In the next 10 to get back to 500, they should buy. Well, let's unpack the bullied into believing they should buy. Well, no one's got any-- no one's bullying you in anything. You fan how you want a fan. Like no one's-- here's the thing. I would say that if you're a better baseball team and you can get better in the wild card, if nothing else, then you should add on to your bullpen. One of the major issues with this team car is that seventh, eighth, and ninth is unreliable. So if you feel like you could compete for the wild card, you should add on. Now, buying is an off-season term. Adding on is as in season. The way I really say is you're adding on while you're in season. Buying to me is off-season, hot stove talk. Sylvia had a great stat yesterday. Do you know what the Cubs record is? Over the last 260 games. No, what's that? 130 and 130. So, Russia still be here. They're the White Sox. Remember the White Sox from two years ago? No, the White Sox two years ago with Tony were a 500 team-- Oh, they were. --over like exactly that even. Over like three left. Oh, yeah, you're in a half. They're exactly 500. Are they just mediocre? It seems to be the answer to that question is yes. Now, the White Sox fans-- I'm taking the White Sox glasses off. They seem to be just mediocre. I thought the Cubs were going to be better than this. I picked the Cubs to win the Central. I had them in the playoffs. Right, I did too. But at some point, don't you look at a stat like that? You look at the run differential, how close it is. They're not really lucky or unlucky. Maybe this is just it. Maybe this is-- maybe we overestimated how good they were going to be. Maybe this is just it, hoodie. 130 and 130. I thought it was interesting when Sylvia presented that stat. When do we stop and just say, this is kind of who they are? They're not terrible. They're certainly not great. But they don't. And again, I picked them to go to the playoffs like hoodie did. I picked them to win the division. Now I've watched three months of baseball this year. I remember a lot of last year. Does that look like a team that's competing to win a World Series or go on a deep playoff run? No, I know baseball is weird, but it doesn't look like it. But Jed told us at the beginning of the season, in the Colorado series at Wrigleyville when we were over there, that he said that we're not there yet. That's bold to say, by the way, because every gentleman on July's or every front office guy lies or tries to give you a mistruth or a little white lie. But he said that we're not Atlanta. We're not Philadelphia. We're not going to be at the top. But you can't go back to back seasons now and have no playoffs. I think that you can survive. All I'm telling you is that you got Milwaukee-- Arizona for three, Milwaukee for three, and then you go on the road, Kansas City, and then Cincinnati into the deadline. Tough stretch of games, actually. It's a pretty good team. Well, if you're still in the mix and you feel like we could get a shot at the scene at the wild car and car, then you add on to your bullpen. I've always maintained that they need more offense. The chair that you're sitting in right now is telling you that it's about pitching, but offense gets you through. It does. Because the starting pitching for the Cubs is not bad. It's good enough. Like in this series against Arizona, it's Steel Hendrix Iminaga. I think their pitching's quite good, actually. They're starting pitching, especially. It's fine. And you look at some of the numbers since July 1st, since June 1st, even if you want to go back that far, the Cubs starting pitching has not been the problem. You're right about that. It's a weirdly constructed team where the starting pitching is good enough to keep you in ball games. But then the relief core takes you out of it. Yeah, that's a big part of the problem. And you can't out slug some of those issues. To your point, 9th and runs in the National League 11th in OPS. Well, that's all. That tells the story, right? Yes, it does. You don't have you don't have star power. You don't have and you don't have that kind of slug to get you out of it if you're going through a slump. Put the put the team on me, right? Put them on my back. There's nobody in that lineup that can do that. No, she comes close to times, but no. Bush is very good. Bush is good. I thought Bellinger would be better. I thought, you know, and not that he's been bad again. It's just sort of like, OK, yeah. But he no stars doesn't appear to be like a real difference making star in that lineup. We have more baseball with Jesse Rogers coming up at 835. But shake, can you sneak in one more because we've got around the NFL next? Yeah, very quickly. One of the most dominant athletes of my time is cooked. Tiger Woods is taking shots from Sky Sports commentators for being hopped up on painkillers. Just look at his eyes. I shot an eight over yesterday. He's in danger of missing his third consecutive major cut. Shot or no shot. It's time for Tiger to retire. That's a no shot. Well, that's a no shot to know. Well, retire. You know why? Senior tour. Senior tour. Yeah, well, him against Marty Fish. I'll watch that. He saw that right over the weekend. Him against Mike Mulder. Michael. Oh, my God. Right. Barkley. I mean, that's what you'd want now, right? If he can't be like at the open or the majors anymore, well, let me see you on a nice, you know, summer Sunday. Ah, there you go. The celebrity tours. There's Tiger, a little celebrity. A little Tiger, Charles Barkley. Marty Fish, a little Mike Mulder. That's awesome. Right? That's awesome. Marty Fish is awesome, by the way. That guy can get it done. Have you seen him? Pretty good. I'm the golf course. Yes. What do you mean? He's very good. Is that right? I mean, as an athlete, so OK. I'll pull it up. I did not see him. It just competed last week, last weekend. How did I not see this? I mean, I can imagine he's good enough. He's a world-class athlete, so that's hilarious. That's too funny. I'm going to say it's tough watching Tiger get around these golf courses. I got to say, I think we're getting into a shot territory there, Shay. I mean, it's just tough. He can't make it around. He can't navigate the golf course physically. He just can't. I mean, it's sad. It was the American Century of Celebrity Tournament. Is that what it was? Yeah. You left that. I just love it. You're like, what am I going to watch him play against Marty? I'm like, are they going to play tennis? Oh, they're playing golf on the celebrity's program. All right. Joe Pavaleski was in there. That's awesome. Joe Pavaleski was there, the hockey player. The hockey player, Joe Pavaleski. Yeah. Pavaleski. How about that? Yeah, that guy. Yeah, him. Not good. So why can't they be in Lake Tahoe and Tiger could be there? Let him go do that. Even that's going to be tough. He can't get around the course physically. He can't do it. I still believe in the Casey Martin card for him. Maybe we should just get him the Casey Martin exception. Get him in there. Get him in there. Oh, my God. What a fight about it. Shay, that's when you need to be on the air during that time. Not the fight about Casey Martin, whether or not he'd have a card or not. I would love to see his take on that. Oh, she didn't know who Casey Martin is. Yeah. No, no, I do. Oh, you do. If Tiger's ever in a cart, you just stop playing golf for the love of God. It's like, at one point, you know, you're like Bob Hope out there in the cart for crying out loud. You know, I don't think Bob Hope was in the cart. He was like, he was playing, right? I mean, what do you give thing? Let me remember Tiger as the guy who was in a sink and chips. And I know, like, I don't need to remember him as this guy. You can't walk around a course. It's tough. It is tough to watch. We thank you so much. Thank you, Bob. Look at his eyes. He's hopped up on painkillers. Well, you got to give it to those sky sports commentators. The journalistic integrity be damned. Well, it's all hopped up on painkillers. I think he's high. Oh, that's awesome. We're not making it up, folks. That actually happened. We heard the air audio. It's unbelievable. It happened around the NFL's next on Captain Jay Hood. Feel the book. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch. And ESPN 1,000 Chicago. Captain Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. It both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love this. He starts to come and he'll fall down. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? [MUSIC PLAYING] It's time to go around the NFL right here on Captain Jay Hood with Carmen de Falco in for cap. I am Jay Hood. Jesse Rogers with the latest on the Cubs and Sox everything else MLB at 835. Around the NFL, here's Shane Orling. Shane. All right, we have volume one of my wind total wagers today. I will have more later. I've bet six so far. When Carmen, host of the world renowned odds couple, is in the studio, we'll do a little gambling. I love it. That's great. I'm here too, by the way. Let's do it. Come on, Harry. Yeah, the other thing is too is that we love your mixtape. Here's volume one now. That's right. Volume one of Shane Orling's wind total shit. Jock jams, volume one. It's unbelievable. This is my no ceilings. [LAUGHTER] It's very good. A room away glass. [LAUGHTER] So you can tell me if you are with me, you're going to run to the kiosk and join with the ticket of your own, or if I have lost my natural mind. I have six wind totals I've already bet. We begin with the Tennessee Titans. I have over 6 and 1/2 wins plus 1.15. I think they're better than people give them credit for. Everybody believes their tanking, except for them, went out and acquired some defensive help. Went out and acquired-- All kinds of help. Ridley is the banana mayo guy, the quarterback? That's the level question. Yeah, it's-- if Will Levis is remotely competent, I think they win seven games. I don't mind it. I don't-- I think they were a very active player in and around free agency. Very active. And they did add a lot. Shay, does that-- does that over 6 and 1/2 start with week one? I'm not picking them to win, but I would pick them to cover today. Probably with two. I'm just getting that July I thought right now. I'm just getting that one. Don't let it happen to week one. May when the schedule came out. Don't let it happen. It scares me. Don't let it happen to week one. The audience changes after a couple of months. I just want to get the fresh take there. The Titans team is one of those that's been left for dead, lost their coach. Everybody assumed they stink. You always got to be careful with those. I learned my lesson with Tampa last year. Thought they'd be awful. I'm not sure about the coaching hire there, to be honest. That one surprised me. With that. The coaching hire in Tennessee. He's trying Callahan, like, I don't know. That one surprised me a little bit. But I don't-- it's not a bet I've made. It's not one I will make, but I don't disagree with Shay. I think he's on the right side of that one. I think they could get to set. Over 6 and 1/2, the next one, Shay. The Washington commanders under 6 and 1/2, even money, day below. Fair. And I think they picked the wrong quarterback. If I were them, I would have gone with Drake May. They went with Jay Daniels. I think it's a very short term investment at that position. And he, with a disaster offense, I don't think is the guy. I don't think that's a quick fix in Washington. Everything that Chico tried to put together, I just think they're floundering a little bit. Interesting how this goes for Quinn the second time around. I think I'll help the defense, because that's what he's always done. But I'm not a huge believer or buyer in Washington either. I think I like the under there. All right, next one. The Baltimore Ravens under 11 wins, minus 120. Last year, the historic defense, but they lose their coordinator to Seattle. He's their head coach now. And there's just no chance. Last season, they led the league in tackles for loss. They led the league in sacks. They led the league in turnovers. You can't do that twice in a row. It's impossible. It's hard to repeat that kind of defensive performance. The thing I like about Baltimore is I still think they're a pretty deep and balanced team. They added two young defensive backs to it as already via the draft to it is already one of the more impressive defensive back rooms probably in the league. They've got difference makers at every level of their defense. They've got probably-- for what it's worth, I know it's an off-ball linebacker. Maybe the best middle linebacker in the game. Maybe it's Fred Warner. Maybe it's Rokwan Smith. It's probably Fred Warner, but Rokwan's awfully close. So there's a lot of talent on that team, but defense is hard to replicate. And I'm not sure they can be quite as good as they were last year. But offensively in the second year under Munken, I still think that offense is going to be good. And I think Zaflowers is going to continue to get better. So I don't know. That's a tricky one for me. Well, that's the best bet on the board for me so far. Yeah. Because-- so aggression to the means-- yeah, with the-- it could be the second toughest division in the NFL. Yeah, maybe the toughest. NFC North and AFC North are difficult. Very. Ravens, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati. If you think Pittsburgh's the worst of them, that's fine. But Baltimore with 13 and 4, that won't happen this year. I don't believe. And by the way, 11-- it could be 11. And they'll make the playoffs and they'll make some noise. And we push on the bet. And we push. They could win 10 and be one of the best teams in the NFL. They could win the bet. And you win the bet. Yeah. Yeah, they could. But that's the best bet on the board so far for me. OK. Next one. Lions under 10 and 1/2. They are not a secret anymore. They are the public. Everybody loves them. I think they could be a Super Bowl team. I also think they're in a really difficult division. They play a first place schedule. They were blessed with perfect health last year. That doesn't happen twice in a row. 10 win team to me. And I win under 10 and 1/2. What do you think? They were 12 and 5 last year. I'm fine with that. I'm fine with that. Again, I haven't made any one of these in particular, but-- 10? You think the-- They're going to be real close. I think the Lions are good. And like Shea said, he's not saying they're not legit or even a Super Bowl contending team. I think they're really-- they might have the best offensive line in the league. They completely revamped their secondary, which they needed to do. It was awful last year, especially in the back half of the season. They're trotting Kindleville. They're out there. He's getting torch. They're trotting Sutton out there. He's getting torch. Held them back, actually. Totally. They completely revamped that secondary. And I think that'll be helpful for them. Look, that offense is legit. I was never the world's biggest Jared Goff fan. I still maybe have a few questions on how far Jared Goff can get you. But he had a three touchdown lead in the NFC title game on the road, you know? I mean, so he's doing something right. They retained Ben Johnson. I think that offense is really good. And they're going to be really explosive. They're right around 11 for me. So hey, 10's probably better for the Bears. I'll say that. I'll cheer for it, Shea, because it's better for the Bears. But that one to me is awfully close. That devs look like a bottom 11 win football team to me. I'm basically counting on injury. But last year, they had nothing go wrong for them on that offensive line. I think Greg now missed a short time. Jonah Jackson a little bit. But for their main guys, Taylor Decker, Panaisu, will to be as healthy as they have. I just, I don't think you can stay that healthy. Fair enough. Yeah. And that thing goes perfect for you year after year. So you always look for a looking for injury. But it just happens because it's the NFL. Yeah. All right, give us one more. Do two more. I have two more. I teased six. I'll put them together. I have the Bills over 10 and 1/2. Everybody's written their death notice. I don't think they're a Super Bowl contender. But I do think with Josh Allen, it's hard to win fewer than 11 games as good as he's been. They went and got Keon Coleman in the draft. So it's not like he's totally bereft of receiver help with digs gone. And the other one is another kind of contrarian play. Chargers under 8 and 1/2 plus 145. That team. Aiden Harvaugh and teams of roster management, though, that they're old on defense. They're in cap L. They have no receivers. Greg Roman for Justin Herbert. What? I like that. I like the Chargers with the Bills. It's a layoff for me. I'm not going to touch the stove because I know it's hot. Why would I keep touching the stove knowing I'm going to burn my hand? That is the thing. They could sweep the AFC East, but still-- But I can't trust them down the stretch. You've got two freebies against New England. You're probably at worst split with Miami. Jets. Maybe the Jets, too. I'm with you. I don't think the Bills are going to be nearly as bad as people think. I still think that's a talented roster with a good coach and a quarterback that is bordering on excellent, right? I mean, if he's not excellent, he's awfully close and he's very, very good. So Chargers, I hate to go against my guy Herbert, but I think you make a compelling argument. How dare you say Lad McConkie is not of any value? How dare you submerge the name of Lad McConkie? Fantastic. You got Josh Palmer and Lad McConkie. Wonderful. You don't have-- Greg Roman. You don't have Keenan Allen. You've got an air raid offense in roster construction with the guy who built Colin Kaepernick and Lamar Jacks. Good luck to you. Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to push you through that glass window. You say something else about Lad McConkie and son of a bitch. You better not say anything about the great Lad McConkie. The great Lad McConkie. You better not say anything about our Georgia Bulldog. I'm hoping Lad McConkie has like-- I don't think it's going to happen, but like, because Justin Herbert-- everybody knows my love for Justin Herbert. Could he have the-- he won't have the puck a year. He's not going to go for 1,500 yards, but-- and he's not an unknown. I mean, Lad-- like, everybody knows. He was a second round pick. He started in Georgia like we know Lad McConkie, but by week 9 or 10, could we be like, holy cow. Look at Lad McConkie closing in already at 1,000 yards. That'd be a fan. I love Lad McConkie, so I think it could be good for Herbert. He finally, after the flub of Quentin Johnson last year, they might have picked a good one at McConkie, we'll see. One big segment with Jesse Rogers is coming up next. If you talk Cubs and Sox everything else, MLB. With Carmen DeFalco, and for Cap, I'm Jay Hood on The Cap and Jay Hood Morning Show. Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention? I've just been handed an urgent news story. Cap and Jay Hood are back. Cannonball! [CHEERING] On ESPN Chicago. [MUSIC PLAYING] It's time to talk baseball with Jesse Rogers on the Carx Tire and Auto Hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom, boom. [MUSIC PLAYING] Don't worry, call the Carx Tire. And Jesse's brought to you by West Coast Men's Health. West Coast Men's Health has been helping men overcome ED and chronic pain for over five years. Go to west coastmen'shealth.com. Good morning to you, Jesse. How are you? I am good back from the all-star break. But can I circle back to a call back to your first hour? I've been listening. You're not my loyal listener. Yes, yes. And I don't want to highlight it too much. But, you know what, Carmen mentioned it, like, are you the Clampitz Carmen, the Beverly Hill? You have money buried somewhere? Come on. You've got it. But you better put some away for a rainy day, Jesse. You don't know it. This is 2024. It kept burying mine. Exactly. You get a little bug in the IT system. And when it glitches, guess what happens? Go to the bank and they tell you they don't have any money for you. Actually, it's not a bad idea. No, thank you. That's what we know you much. I will tell you, fraud is up. I mean, I've had to go through a couple bank cards in recent times. People I know as well, fraud is up. They're chipping away. They're hacking away. Maybe Carmen's on to something. I won't call you the Clampitz. I'll call you the Clampitz. Thank you. Burying in the backyard. Jesse's a fraud's up. We've been in radio for 30 years, all of us. What do you mean fraud's up? We've got a business you think we're in. True. It's been a fraud for years. Well aware. I was used to Paola, but not-- That's good. That's for sure. Anyway, look for the second half. It's, again, a positive for the Cubs as far as the starting rotation. But then, again, how crucial is this stretch between now and August 1st for the Cubs to decide what they're going to do? Yeah, I mean, it's definitely crucial. I think the decision comes down to, am I going to give up a prospect or two, probably a good one, to get a closer? I mean, I think that's the bottom line for Jed Hoyer. He's got to get a closer. Let me give you a stat. And Carmen, I brought this up to you a lot last year. I brought up clutch stats to you last year. And they were really bad that Cubs were both offensively and on the mound at the clutch moments, the high leverage moments. This year, it's the same on the mound. I mean, they are dead last by a mile in high leverage situations on the mound. Now, this is mostly obviously the bullpen, right? That's what we're talking about. Let me give you some perspective just using numbers, OK? The bottom four teams, when it comes to clutch stats, the fan graphs, the White Sox are one of these four teams. Negative 1.73, you don't need to know what the number means, but just listen to it. Negative 2.85, negative 2.90, and the bottom team is the Cubs at negative 4.37. That's a huge leap from even the 29th worst team in clutch stats. So that's what I've been saying to you guys for a month now. I don't care what he does elsewhere with that roster. He has to get a closer to move everybody down a notch. And of course, you have to hope for some positive regression, right? You can't be this bad in that category. When you're not the worst team in the league, right? You're not. You're a few games under 500. Yet in those moments, in those high leverage moments, you are the worst team. So you have to cross your fingers. The guys on your roster will be better. And you have to get a closer. On the other end, if they're not good enough hood, then hoodie, then at least Belanger is going to be tried to be moved. They're going to try to attempt to move him. And then they might actually move some of the relievers if they fall backwards here. So the next two weeks are critical. What kind of a prospect would they be willing to give up if they are going to add? Obviously, oh, in case I would imagine not going anywhere. Kate Horton's not going anywhere. What kind of a prospect are they looking to give up if they're going to add a closer? I don't think Matt Shaw is going anywhere either. So it has to be like, OK, pick from our minor league system, but don't pick Kate Horton, Owen Casey, Matt Shaw. And then they have a catcher. Maybe they want to keep on-- keep because they don't have much in catching. So I will tell you, the trade I would offer up is actually a major league player. I would offer up someone like Hayden Wozneski for a closer duet. One for one. Teams, like players that have established themselves, at least a little bit, and if you're a rebuilding team, you can afford to pick up a guy like Wozneski and bring him along. Now, teams might say, we don't want Wozneski. We want Ben Brown. And that's one step up, in my opinion. Or they might say, you already have Bellinger. Give us Pete Cararmstront, right? So I think an established player could actually get it done for a closer. Otherwise, you're going to have to give up maybe a two or three for one. But you don't mind doing that at double A or single A. So it's something like that, depending on who the closer is. I brought up Kyle Finnegan. Do you guys before look at his numbers with the Nats? Remember, it has to be a closer on a team that's out of it. So there's not that many available. It has to be a decent one. Kyle Finnegan is one of them. So that's the sort of thing. It's going to hurt a little bit, whoever you give up, Carmen. It's going to hurt a little bit. So give us your thoughts about the upcoming games for the Cubs, because this kind of middling team with Arizona for three and then Milwaukee and the Division is tough. So what do you think of the homestand? How well do you think the Cubs can fare? Well, this is what I think I said to you Monday. I think they've raised the floor on their offense. At least I hope so. Because if they go backwards, man, that's pretty sad. They've at least raised the floor. I don't know what the ceiling is. But the last week or even longer, I should say not just a week. Over the last 30 days, they rank 11th in baseball in OPS, OK? On base plus slugging 11th. That's decent enough considering what they were for two months. So assuming they've raised the floor, I think they have a decent shot at winning some games here. Without the offense, it's just not good enough of a team. They can't have just one part of their team starting pitching. They need something else working for them, because we know they don't have a great bullpen, Jalen. But here's the thing. Troy Lavell was the NL manager. I just talked to him. He went to Chicago cut last night, as a matter of fact. That team is prime for a little bit of a run like they were last year. At least they think they are. So my point is Arizona is no pushover. Milwaukee, obviously, no pushover. It's not going to be easy these last two weeks before the deadline. You've got to make it happen. It's not going to be given to you. So yeah, I think they could have a good homestead, like they just had on the road before the break. But they've got to make it happen. It's not going to be errors and miscues by these other teams. Cubs have to make it happen on all parts, offensively, defensively on the base pass. Any sax moves? Well, it's going to heat up. It really is going to heat up. Scouts are going to be following this team for these final two weeks. I think we could see trades at any moment. I think that the Dodgers and Yankees are the two most motivated teams. That's good news for the White Sox. But you can pretty much throw a dart at any contending team. And the White Sox have talked to them. The Mariners need hitting. The Dodgers and Yankees need both starting and relief help. Go through the list. And it's going to be interesting how many sellers are there. Because the less there are, the better for Chris gets in the White Sox. So we are in that mode. And I think early next week, I'll have a few more rumors for you. It's been a little bit quiet with the draft and everything. But they're going to heat up very soon. What do you think? Last dart for crochet this weekend? One more? So is any pitching fifth out of the break? Maybe he is. It's Tuesday to 23rd against the Rangers. There you go. Yes, I think so. Next week is the last one. Yeah. Yeah. One more start for everyone to see him. And I talked to him at the All-Star game like, you know, he pitched two innings in his last start. I think he keeps telling us that was a one off. He's going to ramp it back up. So here's one final start for scouts. Let's hope it's a real 100 pitch type thing or 95 or whatever. And yeah, I think that that's probably going to be it. Whether he's traded the day after or the last day of the deadline, you know, at the deadline, I don't think the Sox need to take any more chances with him. So I'm assuming he's moved. We'll just never know. I mean, these are complicated deals. But all indications are he will be. And then Jesse Rogers will be on high heat on the MLB Network 10, 15. Jesse, Cubs, I don't understand what's going on in the last place. Give me a few minutes of Cubs. Yeah, give me a couple of minutes. Give me a couple of minutes. Give me a couple of minutes of Cubs. No, Theo, Jed, intimate scud. So that's what's bad. Badger. And I've been doing it. Badger. And he's hurt. He's hurt again. Take badger. And then Yankee Badger. Go ahead. What about my Giants? OK. I love your mad dog. I love your mad dog. So that's what you got a little high heat with mad dog at 10, 15. Yeah, from the ballpark, from the ballpark. Oh my god. Look at you big time. Yeah. Undertaker suits today or no? No, no, nothing special. Just just, you know, short sleeve, nothing special. Are you already making your plans for Japan next March? I'm trying to. I'm calling ABC 7. I'm Bristol. I'm trying to get Danny Zetter. And I'm trying to get everybody to send me over there. Hopefully they can split the cost and I'll do it. Because I'd like to-- I didn't get to go to London. So Cubs Dodgers, I'd like to do it. But, you know, Timmy Kirch and Mike Bigfoot me. So I mean, I get to go. That could happen. I could see it. That could happen. In London, it happened in London. Jesse, Japan is really good. Well, I told Danny, let's get a show or two over there. Let's go. Yeah, sure. That's going to happen. You're going to have a show in Japan for Cubs and Dodgers. Why not? I'd be awesome. But you know that I don't even know how you line up the time change. What the hell I mean? You line up the time change. I get what time would we be on? Isn't it like Wednesday over there already? [LAUGHTER] I think at least some days-- We put a camera on Yurko in Tokyo only-- Dude, that would be amazing. I mean, can you imagine Yurko walking around the streets of Tokyo? The sake is great, kid. Oh, my god. I want to see it. So let's hope we can get all get over it. It's all get over there. That's the angle for it. But, of course, to be the cynic, the Cubs will have a built-in excuse when they're eight under in May. You know, we went to Japan. You don't want to hear any of that stuff. You could just see it happen. Open it. The Dodgers went to Japan. They're in first place by, like, 10 games. Right, exactly. Opening day start next year, Dodgers Cubs showed him an Aga versus Shohei Watani. Yeah. That's pretty good. It is pretty good, isn't it? Baseball knows what it's doing right now. Oh, doctor. It's pretty good. That's better than the KBO. Yeah, that's better than the KBO. I got to be there for him and Aga versus Otan. That's going to be it. [LAUGHTER] That's it. And that's just a one-off, right? No series? Oh, it's just two games. Two games. Yep. Two games, then they'll come back to Arizona. It actually is a smart scheduling thing. They will come back to Arizona, get re-accomated, then play against the Diamondbacks. Their next three games. And then, actually, they open up the Sacramento-- Oakland Athletics for Sacramento. Sacramento, most? Oh, do they, really? Yeah. Yeah, that's the first moment of the day. They're going to be in Sacramento. What? Not at all? Not at the ballpark. Yeah, it's a good time to go, because apparently mid-summer Sacramento artificial turf is a big concern. Like, it's going to be 120 degrees in July in Sacramento artificial turf. Oh, god. They're trying to limit the game. Perfect for the White Sox in June next year, when they go to Sacramento to take on the years. There are people in Oakland, San Francisco, that want to keep the team there. And this guy is doing all these crazy things to get it to Vegas. And no one believes it's even going to work in Vegas, so-- Let's go to Sacramento. Holy cow. You've got to be kidding. All right, Jess, as always, we appreciate it. Have a good time at a high heat with Mad Dog Russo. You guys have a great week. See you, Jess. You too, buddy. Yeah, there he is. Brattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom, boom. Hey, he's Jessy. Don't worry, call the car at snow. Brought to you by West Coast Men's Health. Yeah, so why do they have the carpet down in Sacramento? How come they don't have natural grass? They still got astroturfing at ball parks. And that's crazy. The White Sox are an abomination. I mean, they are, but god, the Oakland A's. Now, at least because of Billy Bean's genius in the last 20 years, they've had competitive teams from time to time. Like, they've been in a playoffs, what? 10, a dozen times probably this century. It's more than we could say for our team. That's correct. But man, that ownership group is just the worst. They're getting like 7,000 fans a game at the Coliseum. It's just awful, awful. So did we fix? So Shay, could you tell us what time it is in Tokyo? Just trying to figure out how the midday show can get there. I'm guessing right now it's like 10. I'm going to say it's 10 o'clock at night. I'm going to say it's 11 at night. It's 10.51. 10.51. So what time would your show be? A middle of the night. I don't know. Like 3 AM. Middle of the night? No, like 10.51. So another two hours. Yeah, middle of the night. So 1 AM. It's how 1 AM we're going on here. Perfect. 1 to 4? 1 to 4. Yeah, well, 1 to 3.30 cross talk with Well and Silly. Erick will run in the streets. I think that they have the late night bars open, I'm sure, right? They can't get us to Canton for the whole game. We're going to go to Tokyo. What are we talking about? What are we talking about? We're going to Canton. So I mean, we're going to Tokyo. That ain't happening. Wait, you guys aren't going to Canton? We're not going to Canton. We're not going to Tokyo. I could promise you that much. Oh, OK. Can you catch on a Greyhound car? I'm going to get-- I'm going to go as Jesse's page. That's what I'm going to go as a face in him. I'm going to be his assistant. That's unbelievable. Who's the guy in 30 Rock, the page? Page. Yeah. That's how I'm going to be first. How are you doing? I'm here with Jesse, right? I'm just going to go with Jesse. Yeah. And he needs me. I'm here with Jesse Tokyo. Would you like to be with Jesse Rogers? Yeah, there's going to be the page. Yeah, that's it. Yes, Miss Lemon car. Yeah, exactly. That's right. Take me with you, Jesse. So having said that, Danny, we switch it up. It'll be Blackin' Up Dollar in Tokyo. Seems like the time works out better that way. I think it's a morning show in Tokyo. Blackin' Up Dollar, live from Tokyo for the cub and Dodger. That's so good. Surprise, surprise. But you just laid it out, boy. Right? Show it up. Show it up versus show a opening day next year. Oh, that's five in the morning here, but still. We're going to get up early to watch it, but yeah. We got your post game show. Yes, we get to amazing. All right. I'm in hoodie. I have the post game. Cap and Jhood, weekday morning, 7 to 10. Welcome back to Cap and Jhood. You're officially locked in. [MUSIC PLAYING] On Chicago's home for sports, ESPN, Chicago. Coming up, Carmen and I will talk about the Chicago Bears because the gates at the camp have swung wide open for the rookies. And sooner or later, you'll see everybody at camp. We cannot wait. We'll talk Bears with you. Also with Courtney Cronin at 918 on the Cap and Jhood Morning Show.
