(upbeat music) - Good morning, Chicago. Welcome in to the Cap and J. Good morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With Dion Miller and for Cap, I'm J. Hood. We've got Che. We've got J. Moore. We've got you here on this Deal Brecker's Thursday. A 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7, 7-6, our full number. Thanks for watching our show on YouTube as well. YouTube.com, make sure you subscribe to the ESPN Chicago channel. Also on Twitch, twitch.tv/eskin1000Chicago. A busy nine o'clock hour here. - And if you want specific things on YouTube, I believe every show has its own YouTube page, including Peggy and Dion. Thank you, thank you. Took a little effort, but we got it. - Where'd the effort come from? - Us. - Oh, yours? - We worked very hard. - Yes. - Do you want people to subscribe now? - Or? - Yes, subscribe. - Okay. I mean, you just dropped the- - Like that subscribe button. - That's right. Yeah, you just dropped it into the ether, but we want people to subscribe to Peggy and Dion. - On YouTube. - All the craziness and all the hot mess that is Peggy and Dion. - It's fun. - It's who knows what's gonna happen. - It's who knows what's gonna happen. - That's why I love your show. - That's pretty accurate. - That's why I love your show. You're driving around on a Saturday and you never know what's gonna be said. - We, not. We don't even know. - Yes, that's the beauty of that show. - That's why I love it. - What I love is that she always comes in with this huge list of notes and she's, I mean, the show would not sing if it were not for her, but like I, you know, hot mess express here, I go. - So, so good. - I come in with like four drinks and my hair mess and I just go. It's great. - That's why I love that show. You never know what's gonna be said there. It's just like, wait, what, what was that? - I know. - Yeah, well often it's, now how did we get to this person? - So, it's all there on youtube.com. Look for ESPN Chicago. So, we see this on the front page on ESPN.com, ranking the top 100 professional athletes since 2000. Ah, ESPN. They're working again, Deon, 'cause they realized that we're in a lull here with no baseball until Friday. Training camps are just opening for the rookies. You know, you've had your baseball draft here or there, but this is the right time. We got to drop a 100 professional athlete since 2000 list, you do it today. Perfect time, perfect week for this. Let's give the top 10 for those of them that seen this. Again, you can go to ESPN.com and see this for yourself. But if you're driving, listen to this. I'll start with number 10. Number 10 on this list is Kobe Bryant. Of course, a Hall of Famer, NBA 75th anniversary team. Kobe Bryant's number 10. Number nine is Usain Bolt. A-time Olympic gold medalist, a world record holder for many, many years. I mean, he is a blurrer. Usain Bolt's number nine. And again, we're saying that since 2000, these are the top 100. Number eight is Tiger Woods, 13 major wins. Most of any player during that span, 11 majors wins as a number one golfer. So Woods is eighth. Number seven is Simone Biles. Chicago's own. Simone Biles, neither a husband plays for the Bears. Seven-time Olympic medalist, Simone Biles at seven. Any questions yet? Any omissions? Do you like Kobe, Bolt, Tiger, Simone, 10 through seven? Any problems with that? - No, not yet. - Okay. Number six, Roger Federer. 20-time major champion, 369 majors, and eight Wimbledon championships. Already, I'll say that he's too low, Shay, but we'll get there. Tom Brady's five, seven-time Super Bowl champion, five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time NFL MVP. He's the best that we've ever seen at the quarterback position. - Correct. - Number four is LeBron James. LeBron James, still playing in the league. 20-time all-star, 19-time all NBA selection. Number three is Lionel Messi. So a 10-time La Liga champion, he's number three. And again, whether it resonates the people in this country does not matter. He resonates to the world of what he does for football, what he does for soccer in the world. Number two, Serena Williams. 23-time major tennis champion. Second most by any player. Women's record, 365 major matches, match wins. 73 career titles. Fifth most by a woman in the open era. Number one, Michael Phelps. Swimmer. 28-time Olympic medalist, 23-time Olympic gold medalist. Do you have a problem that Michael Phelps is the number one professional athlete in the last 24 years? I do. Swimmer. - I know. What? - Well, who would you put there? - Well, no, I asked you. - Well, no, I know. - Because here's the thing. We get into this rut as sports fans of counting the championships, counting the rings. How many rings do you have in a box? How many championships do you have? How many gold medals do you have? Okay. - He has the most, okay. But that doesn't make him the number one athlete. - I don't think it is either. - And the fact that Tom Brady is behind LeBron James is crazy to me. And I agree with you on Roger Federer too. - I think that's too low. - I think that's too low. Now, would I make them one though? I don't know if I would make Tom Brady one. - Or even Serena one, which Serena's incredible. Like, I don't mind her at two. - I think that she's properly placed in the top five. But, Shay, why can't it be Tom Brady? What's wrong with Tom Brady being at one? 'Cause we're gonna open this up to Chicago in just a moment, but just, since this all came out, why can't Brady be one? Now, we just gave the top 10. Why can't it be Tom Brady? - I always am kind of partial to the individual athlete in rankings like these. And they are super subjective. But the team athlete, I think, always is gonna be below some of the individuals. Like, I would be okay with Federer ahead of Brady and LeBron. I'm okay with where Serena Williams is. Honestly, hoodie, I'm okay with where Michael Phelps is. I don't think his dominance gets discussed enough when we talk about people like Tiger Woods, who were some of the most dominant athletes. Just that old eight Olympics alone. You look at a guy who won eight gold medals, a record, and in seven of the eight events set world records. That's insane. - So, I mean, I guess beauty's in the eye of the beholder as far as what sport you like in the Olympics. Swimmer, tennis player, if tennis is there, gymnastics, track, I mean, do we always put the individual person over the team sports person in that spot, Dion? Do we have to? - I was just saying there. I mean, it's true. They are working on their own. And in this little tiny article, his mom talks about, it wasn't all these things. It was just him working really hard. Michael Phelps working really hard. And he was determined. So I think that that mentality makes him the elite athlete that he became, right? Like, he put in that work. So, I do feel, I don't know. I don't know if I just don't know if I would put him number one, but I don't know who else I would have put there. - I'm like, I'm pushing Federer up there, even further than six, for me. - Oh, further than six for me too. I don't think LeBron four is properly placed. - You're preferring to be lower than that? - Yeah, not much, but yes. - He simply cannot be ahead of Tom Brady. - No, that cannot happen. No, I don't mind Lionel Messi. I mean, it's true. You should see, if we were in Europe, I mean, he'd be number one. It's like, you know, it's unbelievable what he's able to do. - I don't know, Shay. Like this Phelps deserved to be the top five, yes. I see, I know how decorated he is as a swimmer, but I'm looking at Tom Brady. I look at Federer for me. It's higher, it should be higher on the list for me. - See, I can't do the Brady thing over the individual people. Like, I'd even argue, I'd have Tiger Woods ahead of Tom Brady, honestly. And I love Brady, but the championships that you win in a team sport, there are other people on that field with you that are contributing and sometimes taking away from that accomplishment. It's not just you, whereas if you're Michael Phelps or Roger Federer or Serena Williams or Tiger Woods, you're out there on your own. Everything you did is you alone. You accomplished it yourself. There was nobody there to save a point or take the birdie putt for you. Or like outside of the relays for Phelps, nobody's swimming in the last 100 meters of your butterfly. It's all you. - That's true. Well, in that regard, and I'm looking at Simone Biles at seven, I think she should be higher. She is ancient in gymnastic years. And what she is, she is, right? I mean, when we were growing up, the Olympians were always 15, 16, 17 years old. And she is out there at 27, doing skills that are still mind-boggling, the hardest at any level. - She won her first national title in 2013. - Yes. - And now it's 2024. - And it's all been in this window that they are saying qualifies her. She should be higher. Her and Federer should both be higher. - I just think that list is interesting. Like, I don't throw anyone off this list. Everyone deserves to be in their top 10. I just would rearrange a few of these names. - Yes. - But I mean, all these people are all deserving 'cause I wouldn't go deeper than that because if I go 11 through 15, Deon, I'm going, Djokovic, Nadal, both tennis players, Cristiano Ronaldo at 13, Steph Curry's 14, Ledecky, the swimmer at 15, Tim Duncan, Tim Duncan at 16, Shaq at 17. - Why was that a chuckle there? - That's 'cause that's crazy. Shaq is 17 and Duncan's 16. - Yeah. - Hold on there. Mahomes is 18, Lewis Hamilton 19, Aaron Donald 20. Shay, Aaron Donald 20? Just say it out loud. Top 20 athlete over the last 24 years. Aaron Donald? That's a tough one. - It's Lawrence Taylor and Aaron Donald if you want to talk defensive players. - So I get it. 20 seems like a reach, but I get it. The problem hoodie is there are, look, there is particularly one local athlete who didn't crack the top 100 and I find it to be in egregious oversight. Makes me wonder if nationally this city has been forgotten in the throes of losing the past decade. - I'm looking through this list and I do not see Patrick Kane. - Great. - Am I missing it? See, I don't know. - No, you're not. - Two hockey players on the top 100, two. - Okay, that doesn't. And Connor McDavid is 98. - Oh, so there's three, so there's three. So it's McDavid, Ovechkin, and Sidney Crosby. - How Patrick Kane is on this list is nonsense. - It's insane. - That's crazy. So we can make the argument of the best American born hockey player ever if not in the top conversation ever. Definitely in this city, but I think in the national hockey league too. - Patrick Kane, no, not at this top 20. - The best American born player, yeah. - In this top 100, it's crazy to me. But we got time for Pacquiao. And James Harden, James Harden's on this list. - James Harden is on this list. - Oh, come on now. I think that that's egregious that Patrick Kane is on this list. - The only player on the list with Chicago connections is Candice Parker at 60. - And she's one of the, I know you can't say one of the goats, but she's one of the greatest women's basketball players. - Women's players for all time, yes. - Three-time WNBA champion. When a championship with the Skye, she just retired this year, was great with Tennessee under Pat Summit, great high school player here locally in the Chicagoland area. So I just, I think that's crazy. How is it, Shaye, unless I'm looking at this wrong, how is it that Patrick Kane is on this list? - I have no idea. - I, like when I went through it this morning, they hadn't released 25 through one yet. It had ended at 26, Peyton Manning, and I'm going through the list, and the only Chicago person I could find is Candice Parker. And then at 7 a.m., they put the updated top 25 out, so I refresh, and I'm scrolling. I'm like, "Well, Patrick Kane's gotta be in the top 25." I don't know that I'd put in that high, but if they didn't rank him one to 20, 100 to 26, he has to be, not there. - Wow. - How is it possible, the greatest American-born hockey player, three cups in this century, leading the Blackhawks dynasty, doesn't crack the top 100. How forgotten has this market become nationally? - It really is. - Patrick Kane doesn't crack the top 100 of this century. - I think what you just said, it hit the nail on the head. This is a forgotten sports market right now, based on the losing. I mean, we have well documented in our city that this is the darkest time sports-wise that we've had in a very long time. - Well, actually, you know, there's one, but there's actually two J-Moor, there's two Chicagoans on this top 100 list, and the other one is at number 35, Dwayne Wade. - I know, I didn't see that, yeah. - Chicago-Bold Dwayne Wade. Boo's legend. Move it on. So at least there's two, one and a half. - Yeah, it was one and a quarter. - He couldn't wait to get out of there. - I'd say it's a quarter. - They could definitely move hard enough and put Kane in there. - Yeah, I would say so. - Yes. - I was surprised at that. 'Cause I thought I was missing it, like, okay, who'd you missing it? It's right there. - They put Connor McDavid on. - 98. - Someone on Twitch wants to know, I'm sorry, someone on Twitch wants to know was Devin Hester on the list at all? - No. - No, the only Chicago person is Candace Parker. That's it. - That's it. - There's no Frank Thomas, there's no Jonathan Tays, there's no Patrick Kane, there's no Przinski, there's no Duncan Keith. - How does a team that won three Cubs since 2000 not have one player on this list? - And Aaron Rodgers, even Aaron Rodgers on the list. - Aaron Rodgers is on the list. - And he's 91. (laughing) That's controversial. But when you make a list like this, Dion, of course it's gonna be controversial, right? - Of course. - So because this is for Kokta, what we're going to do is we're going to have our own list of the Chicago top 10 athletes since 2000. - Okay. - Since we can't find one, we found one and a half, we got Candace Parker, Chicago's own. - Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - And Dwayne Wade for a couple of coffee here. Well, so we're gonna have our top 10 athletes since 2000. We want you to think about it and then give us a call. 312-332-ESPN-332-3776, our phone number. I'm really surprised that Patrick Kane's in on this list. But we have him on our list. We'll talk about where we have him placed. Coming up next on the Captain J. Hood Morning Show. (upbeat music) - Captain J. Hood are fast. - First time caller, huge fan of your guys show. - Chicago's home for sports. - ESPN Chicago. (upbeat music) - Captain J. Hood weekday morning, seven to 10 here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with the on Miller and for cap on J. Hood. I like that, don't you? - I do. - Yes, right? Three, one, two, three, two, three, seven, seven, six, zero, phone number. Hey, it's your name. - It is, it is. - See? - I get a lot of D. - Okay, okay. - In D on. - Yes. - In D on. (laughing) - In D on. - Well, so we talk to you here about the ESPN list. You're just joining us is out now on ESPN.com, ranking the top 100 professional athletes since 2000. And again, for the world, Michael Phelps is one. Serena Williams, two, Lionel Messi is three, LeBron James, four, Tom Brady, five, Roger Federer, six, Simone Biles, seven, Tiger Woods, eighth, Usain Bolt, nine, and Kobe Bryant is 10 on this list. But what is the glaring omission is the best American-born hockey player is not on here in Patrick Kane. - Mm-hmm. That's a glaring omission. - Yes. - And that's not a Chicago bias saying it. That's just. - It's just what he is. - Yes, what he is, yeah. - Exactly. - So since ESPN screwed this up, I screwed this up and never put him on there, the only Chicago one on here is Candace Parker from the Chicago Sky, won a WNBA championship here, and now she's retired. And kind of Dwayne Wade, kind of. - Part Sky owner. - Yeah, Robin Zone is Dwayne Wade. So on top 10, without any particular order, Dion, I think that Candace Parker deserves to be on the list for Chicago top 10, at least since 2000. - Yes, I do too. - Candace Parker, Brian Arlacher. - Mm-hmm, definitely. - Chris Bryant. - Yes, this is not an order. - Not an order, just names. - Chris Bryant. - Anthony Rizzo. - Mm-hmm. - Devin Hester. - Definitely. - About this. Paul Conerko. - See, I was looking at that I don't hate that, because I know Shay had said, am I allowed to say what you said, Shay? He's not listening. - But he's listening. - He said A.J. Przezinski, which I agree with in some capacities. I feel like you have to have someone from that team. But I, Conerko was. - It's a five-time All-Star with the White Sox. - He was the captain, he was the captain, he was the guy, he was the leader. - He was? - Yeah. - He was the Sox from 99 to the end of his career in 2014. - Yeah, well, that, yes. - And of course, part of that '05 championship that some people can't remember, including ESPN.com. - Including ESPN.com. - Spags. - Frank, Frank Thomas. - Uh-huh. - Arguably, the best right-handed hitter I saw for about six years straight, until he could not, somehow Frank just lost the outside pitch. And he was getting screws and getting squeezed. It's like, Frank, you just don't see the outside pitch anymore. He took a lot of walks, but he had a lot of big moments. I think Frank deserves me on that list since 2000. Jonathan Taves and Patrick Kane. - Yeah. - I have him number one on my list, actually. - Coner would be number one on my list, too. - Did I miss any? - Probably Erlecker second. - Did I miss anything? - I don't think so. Duncan Keith is up there for me. - Duncan Keith. - I also thought about Mary and Hosa. - Maybe Hosa more so than Keith for me. Only because when I think about free agent signings over the last 20 years, Hosa's right there. - No doubt. - To me, I mean, John Lester. - Right. - Hosa's there because Hosa to me was the glue to those Stanley Cup championship teams. - It's remarkable to me that he had a whole career and then came here and won three cups. Like he's just, he was amazing. - So, I mean, beauties in the eye of the beholder, but that was a, oh, by the way, I gave you nine. I'm gonna give you a 10. The 10th is Derek Rose. - Mm-hmm. I see that. - It's the MVP season. - Yeah. - And again, the injury is what it is, but there was a time where Derek Rose, as you saw, was one of the most dominant guards in the league. And he deserved the accolades that he had, but the injury obviously slowed him. So I gave you nine, but 10 is Derek Rose on the list. I think he makes it. I think he deserves that. - My list is very similar. Candace is on my list, of course. Canner is where it starts. Erlach or Hester changed the game. I was Chris Bryant, yeah, because he peaked here, right? Like he went from minor league player of the year, rookie of the year, MVP, like he peaked here. - Yes. - And from now that we've seen, that's all he did. His whole career was here. - Yeah, don't let the sour taste of him being terrible with the Rockies. - That's all he did was here in Chicago. - Don't let the sour taste of the big contract and not doing anything with Colorado souring you. - So I know, I know, I think that's hard because I'm human and like the emotions get in the way. And I'm like, oh well, then they left and then they did this and did it up. But no, you're right about that. And Rizzo. - Yep, hard to solve the team. - Taves for sure. Keith would be on mine, I think maybe before Hosa just because he was such a machine. He was, he had more minutes than it. He was always on the ice. - I thought he was such a difference maker. - Corey Crawford, does he belong? - No. - No, they're not. - No, Corey Crawford, wait a minute. - I don't think so. - Okay, any omissions? I feel like I'm missing some White Sox. - I feel like I'm missing some White Sox too, but then I like, as I was thinking about it. - That old five team was my whole world though. I mean, because I could throw some pitchers in there, but I just think that Frank and Kenerko meant a lot to the team. - But I would say those two, right, for sure. That was AJ's first year with the team. So I would say for sure, those two over him. - Here's one. - Here's one. - Yeah. - Here's a glaring omission. Is there any love for Sosa? - Oh gosh. - Should be. - There should be. - So you got to take someone off? Take Chris Bryan off then. - No, I don't want to take Chris Bryan off. - I take Rizzo off. - What about Sosa? - Maybe. - Sosa was around? Well, hold on a sec, Sosa. Yeah, 2000, yeah. He was with the Cubs, early 2000s. Shouldn't he be on the list? - Maybe. What did he do? - And so much of his accomplishment was in the 90s. I don't know if the 21st century works. - Works for me. That guy was a monster. - The 2000s cub for me would be Zombrano. - No shot. - Him and his cramps. Here's a guy I shaved, by the way. Zombrano could have been great, but you know what held him back? Water. (laughing) - I don't got to hydrate. - I know, like the hot days in Wrigley, you remember this, right? You've covered those games where you have to leave in the fourth, I think. Had the forearm cramps. Like I can't keep going. Like he's like, has a no hitter going. He's like, nope, got to stop because of the cramps. Think about that. Be Lee on your team, got a little Derek Lee? - A lot of twitchers say in Jake Arietta, cracks the top 10 of Chicago athletes. - So which cubs would you like to take off? - Yeah, that's the thing. Like I can't remove Bryant, I can't remove Rizzo. Feels like Arietta and Lester, their accomplishments were too short term. It's part of my issue with Derek Rose. Like Derek Rose was great for two years. - Yeah. - And we're talking about the top 10 list. You're gonna have to have, for me at least three hawks. They won three cops. - Right. - Gonna have to have Verlacher. I have to, he's the only Bulls representative that deserves to be on the list since 2000. - That's the thing. Maybe no Bulls deserve it. - See? - I mean, if I'm gonna put our Bulls on it, if it was gonna be a bull, it'd be Rose. - Yes, yes, agree. - It's not Levine. - It's not Levine. - Bryant and Rizzo, it was a short term deal, but they won a title. They broke the curse. They had the great moments. - Rose won the MVP, it was good for two years, but what's the highlight of the time that he was here? He won the individual award and lost to LeBron. - So are we, so Deanna, you taking off Sosa? - I'm taking off Sosa. - Wow. - I am. - Wow. - Okay. - I like my list. - You know, between now and 10 o'clock, it'll be modified. - I know. (laughs) - But right now, I like my list. - It'll be modified. - You'll say, oh yeah, this scratch, scratch, scratch. You'll be taking names off. But it's a great conversation. And if you're on hold, you will be on the air, 3-1-2-3-3-2, ESPN, 3-3-2-3-7-7-6. Who belongs on Chicago's top 10 list? ESPN has their top 100 list. There's just Candace Parker. And no Jonathan Taves, no Patrick Kane. - It's so-- - It's weird. - They want three cops. They were a dynasty. How do you not have one of them on there? - So we're talking about it. - On The Cap and Jay Hood Morning Show. (beeping) - Here's to Dave's headline. - Headline. - With Cap and Jay Hood. - Kayla Williams is officially a bear, inking his $39 million rookie deal yesterday. The Bears will have their first practice of training camp on Saturday. We'll hear from the front office tomorrow. Kayla Clark broke the WNBA record for assisting a game with 19 in a loss to the Dallas Wings last night. It was impressive. That was their final game before a month long All-Star in Olympic break. Clark will play in the All-Star game Saturday night on ABC7, but she was left out of the WNBA's three point shooting contest along with last year's winner, Sabrina Ionescu. We don't know exactly why. The final golf major of the season is underway with the Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland. Tiger Woods currently won under through three. Pretty impressive. Scotty Scheffler just getting started with his round. - Surprise, surprise. - Okay, and the White Sox made a series of roster moves yesterday. They DFA'd capture Martin Maldonado and Danny Mendek. They sent Lenny and Sosa back to the minors and they signed outfielder Nick Sendzel. What can happen from here? That's your headlines from today. - What? (upbeat music) - Welcome back to Captain Jay Hunt Experience. Weekdays from 7 to 10 on Chicago's Home for Sports. - ESPN. - Do you want to go to Chicago? - You're listening to the Captain Jay Hunt Morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with Dion Miller. Jay Hunt with you. Dion is in for cap. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, ESPN is our phone number. If you're just joining us, we're talking about who belongs in Chicago's top 10 list. Going back to 2000 now, we're talking about in this century who is the top 10 players in Chicago's sports. The stems from the top 100 list from ESPN.com in which they do not have more than a one Chicago sports athlete and that's Candace Parker. And kind of, Dwayne Wade kind of. - Kind of. - Yes, but that didn't end well with the Bulls. That did not end well. - What was it, half a season? And you said go back to Miami. - Brother, get out. - Brother, that's just, it's bad management. There's no reason for him to be here. - And if they wanted to come home. The money was good and the money was really good. - Wow. - This is bad. So we're asking you who belongs to this top 10 list. Do you have your list in front of you again? - Me? - Yes. - No, Peggy, no. Do you have your list in front of you? - I have my list in front of you. - Yes, go right ahead. - Oh, okay. Patrick Kane, Brian Arlacher, Devin Hester, Candace Parker, Chris Bryant, Derek Rose, Anthony Rizzo. (laughing) - Jonathan Tays, Duncan Keith and Paul Canerko. - I have Kane Taves, Frank Canerko, Hester, Rizzo Bryant, Erlacher, Candace Parker, Derek Rose, so far. - I know, unless I'm convinced otherwise, let's go to the phone line. (laughing) - Let's go talk to you, Matt in Greenville, South Carolina, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Hey, Matt, good morning. - Hi, Matt. - Good morning, guys. How are you? - Well, thank you. Thanks for checking in. - Thank you, thank you. I called a little bit ago when you guys were talking about the overall top 100. Cody, there was one glaring admission that ESPN refused to acknowledge that I'd love to get your opinion on. At 1316 days, where do you put your tribal chief, Roman Reigns at? I'll hang up and listen. - Thank you very much. I think that Roman Reigns should be on this list. If you think about it, all of the days that he was champion, the idea that he can't crack this 100 list is just crazy to me. You can give me Hogan, you can give me the rock, you can give me John Cena, but the idea that Roman Reigns can't be on this list doesn't make sense to me. Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I'm removing James Harden and putting Roman Reigns on that list. - It can't hurt first. - Yes, it can't hurt first. - We can put Roman Reigns in for Jason Kidd. - That's fine, too. Look through that. No, Jason Kidd and Roman Reigns, the tribal chief, who will be returning soon. Thank you very much for the phone call. And now he leaves line open, 3-1-2-3-2. ESPN is our phone number. He reminds me that the good karma wrestling is tonight at 6 o'clock. I'll be hosting it with Brian Rowitz on YouTube and also on X on Twitter at ESPN1000. Skokie, here's Ryan on cap and Jhood. Ryan, good morning. - Hey, good morning. Hey, the two people on the top 100 list that I would add, Mark DeAndre Flurry, who also played for the Blackhawks and for the Chicago list, they got to count Corey Crawford because without him, they don't win two cups. And he played every single minute of the Stanley Cup. I know you guys don't appreciate defense, but you got to have the hardest position in one of the hardest sports on the list. - Who are you, you guys? Who are you talking to, Ryan? - You guys just said you both, you and Dion both said you wouldn't play Corey Crawford on the list. - That's not what happened. I asked her should Corey Crawford vote yellows and she said no. - So it's just me. - I didn't say no, you guys. - It's just me, Ryan. - How about that, Ryan? - I got a little fired up. I got a little fired up. - You did, I'm sorry. - On the top 100 list for the national, they also got to include Mark DeAndre Flurry. Like, he's awesome and he's still playing. Like, you got to have some more hockey representation there. I'll let you guys talk about if a Corey Crawford on my list for Chicago, 100%. - Well, Ryan, I want you to take a look at that whole list. The idea that hockey is pretty much ignored from ESPN.com is crazy to me. - Three players on that list. - That's the thing that's crazy to me. - There's more than three great players since 2000 in hockey. - Correct. - You want to get fired up, be fired up at ESPN.com. - Yeah, that irritates me. Maybe I was too quick, too dismissive on Crow. But we'll see. - She's got the pin out, ladies and gentlemen. She's starting to be some scratches. - I know, I'm scratching off names. - See you later, KB. - Boston, Massachusetts, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's Adam on Captain J. Hood. What's going on, Adam? - Hey, Adam. - While I totally agree with you that Frank Thomas is one of the greatest hitters of all time, I think that predominantly happened in the 90s and he was an asterisk on the World Series team 'cause he was injured. - True. - But they had a pitcher on that team who is one of only 14 modern era pitchers to do 14 consecutive seasons, not 14 pitchers, one of like seven pitchers, of 14 consecutive seasons of 200 innings, which is Christie Matheson, Warren Spahn, Gaylord Perry, Greg Maddox, Filmy Crow, Don Sutton, and Mark Burley, who in his 15th season was an inning and a half shy of doing 15 in a row. Guy was unbelievable. He had four gold gloves, perfect game, which I went to. - Yeah. - He's gotta be on the list. He was the heart and soul of that White Sox team. - So Mark Burley over Frank. Do you agree with-- - Yeah, Frank, Frank. - I mean, it's just 'cause it's from 2000. - I understand. I just love Frank. He was so good in this, in this time. - They would have won a World Series in the 90s if it wasn't for the strike. That was his year. - Dude, me and Ad Dan Virk argue about this all the time 'cause he was an expos fan, right? And I say in '94, it was gonna be the White Sox and the expos in the World Series and the Sox are gonna win that thing. Sox were stacked in '94. In '93, they were stacked, right? - Yeah. - I mean, I mean, I think they were on their way. Do you agree with Kanerko beyond the list? I think he deserves it. - Oh, yeah, I love Paulie. - Yeah. - I also think you should take Elena Deladon off and put Derek Rogan. - Oh, no, you don't want-- (laughing) Well, I asked, I asked Deod, is Elena Deladon the list? - No. - And you said, well, no. - No. - Oh, no. (laughing) - She was a star. - She was a star. - More so when she wasn't here. - But similar to what's happening today, Elena Deladon was not treated as a star with the Chicago sky. - She was not. - The marketing was bad, as you well know. - Was? - 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our phone number. (laughing) You know, when I get out of the car, when I get out, get on that green carpet, I'm gonna red carpet the green carpet when I'm doing my fit check. - They take your picture every time you walk into the studio, right? - Oh yeah, absolutely. Do it better here than they do at the sky, by the way. Doesn't like the garage door in the back while Angel Reese is doing her fit check. The worst. Be better. That's all I'm saying. Just be better. - Such an opportunity, right? You have a whole month off to figure it out. - James and Neuletics on Captain J. Hood. Hey James, good morning. - Hey James. - Hey guys, good morning. - Morning. If people don't make the top 10, there's probably 10 to 15 people there. Honorable mentions that should be really close. I know there's people on hold that have some of the names that I had too, but you know, Pina Tillman's gotta be pretty close to getting on there too. He was pretty impactful. I mean, Pina Punch created it. He was essentially a lockdown corner that really lead wide, got no respect really, when you compare him to the other players at his position like a Dural Rivas or something. I mean, he used to lock down Moss, which nobody was doing. - So would Hester still be on the list, James? - I mean, if you're gonna go three hawks, you could probably go three bears. I mean, now me personally, I would drop Rizzo and put Arietta on there. Only because individually, I think he was better at what he did. And then, you know, I'm trying to find a way to put sauce on there too. And then I'm trying to flip a coin between Frank Thomas and Conerko. I think only one of them could get on there. And I mean, I'm not a Sox fan, but I'm probably going to Conerko, like, the only time in my life I've ever enjoyed anything. Frank Thomas said or had a look on his face was during his, you know, low tee commercials or whatever the heck he's doing. Like he was not a likable player. And his best years were in the 90s, in my opinion. - That's fair. - He kind of just hung on for that championship. I think he had came back from Oakland or Toronto or something too. So like I said, there's probably 10 to 15 people that would be anywhere from eight to 20 that you could argue. So I'll hang up and listen, thanks, Chris. - You know what? - Thank you. - You know, I can roll with Mark Burley because of the consistency. And because we're talking about since 2000, as much as I love Frank for a good six, seven years, Dion, I can understand why Burley could be on that list. - I can too, I can too. I had someone on Twitter said that too. Burley's, I can see how he could be on the list. He's on my side list. - Oh, you have a side list? - A side list, 'cause I'm just thinking, you know? - I knew you'd hit some scratch-offs. I knew that. - I didn't scratch anybody off yet. I'm just saying, side list. - I knew there was gonna be, it's gonna be a list like, "Ah, you're right." And you know what? - That is so me. - Yeah. - Oh, you know what? You're right. Corey Crawford does deserve to be on top of that. - You would not be off my list. You would not. - Rob, Rob. - Rob in Las Vegas, Nevada, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Hey, Rob. - Hey, Rob. - Hey, hoodie. Hey, Dion. Yeah, I was agreeing with one of the previous callers. Mark Burley would be the number one white sock for me in the entire 2000s. I mean, there's no one as consistent as him. Just a likable guy too. You know, fun, you know, fighting on the tarps and everything during rain delays. - Yeah. - But there's another first baseman though, I would take instead of Paul Kenerko from the white socks. And that's Jose Abreu. Rookie of the year, MVP. He was the leader of the first white socks team to make it to the playoffs and back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021. That's kind of ridiculous for that team. But also, if you wanted to add a Blackhawk in there too, Duncan Keith. I think he's on his way to the Hall of Fame too. And he was the MVP of one of the Stanley Cup runs too. So. - Rob, if I'm adding a Blackhawk, it's Hosa for me. - Oh, for sure. - Yeah. - Rob, I would put Duncan on my list. I would. - Thank you, Dion. - Oh, well, you're welcome. - Yeah. - Rob, Hosa, you know how important that signing was, Rob. I mean, no Hosa, no cup to tell you. - Oh, who was he? - Strong. - Can you remember who? - Who was Marty Havlet? Who was on the previous team? - Yeah. - And all of a sudden, he was like, oh, the truth is going to come out. And then all of a sudden, here comes Hosa. Outshine Havlet like no other. And then three cups later and Havlet in afterthought. - All right, Rob. Good call, man. Appreciate your telephone call. - Yeah. - I don't argue with like the Hosa embryo thing. His value was underrated while he was here. I think his, especially in the clubhouse. - You know, I saw his last home run. - Did you? - Probably of his career in Houston. I was there. - Really? - Astro's twins. - Yeah. - And I saw him stretching. He was stretching for two hours. And the umpires were like, all right, we're about to start the game. And he's still in the first baseline, just like being stretched out. He's so old. He looks like the old horse. Like, all right, we gotta go now. - National anthem? Oh, sorry. I gotta go. So I love Hose. - Absolutely. - Absolutely. Sonically, from conerco to abreu.
