I don't know what the numbers were because it's too early. Maybe by the time we're almost out of here, we'll know the actual rating number for the All-Star game yesterday. Baseball tries so hard. Baseball tries so hard. There was a time in this country where number one was baseball. The number one sport was baseball, where we talked about it ad nauseam. Like the off season, the hot stove, it was so relevant and it was something talked about on a regular basis. Football's taking that over. - Yeah. - Baseball's just trying to find their place in the sports landscape. They're trying. And I would just say that you can try, but you can't do it with those uniforms. You can try to be relevant, but you can't be relevant with those uniforms to have your players look like clowns. I mean, looking like the guy that's changing your oil, you can't do that. - No, and Jonathan, I watched the All-Star game last night. I enjoy the Midsummer Classic. I enjoy the fact that it's a celebration of baseball. You're right, the uniforms definitely threw me off. I want to see the players in their team uniforms. I think it's cool. Did you notice during the game, they kept showing highlights of previous All-Star games? - Yeah. - And I believe there was one towards the end of the game that they had, each row was running around third base, coming home and winning. The winning run was scored and it showed each row crossing home plate and then turning around and giving high fives to all of the other American League players in their own uniforms. That's a cool look to see a Mariner high fiving with a Yankee high fiving with an Oreo and seeing the uniforms all in the field together. That to me is cool, but I'll say this, bad jerseys, but it's the only All-Star game that matters in sports because it's the only All-Star game where players, for the most part, seem to care. And it's the only All-Star game where they're actually playing the actual game that they're paid to play. With their teams, they're playing in the All-Star game. Those who were on the field at the end of the game were actually playing a baseball game. - Yes, of course. - Now, I know that starting pitchers are only going one inning and they're throwing max V-Lo 'cause they're only out there for 15 to 18 pitches. I understand that, that's not a real baseball game, but for the most part, fielders in the field are fielding. Runners on the bases are running, batters in the box are hitting and give a, once again, on a global stage, Shohei Otani shows up and proves why he's the best player in baseball. We saw in the World Baseball Classic, we've seen it throughout multiple seasons now in Major League Baseball. And then once again, in an All-Star game, Shohei shows up and goes yard. I think the Major League Baseball All-Star game is the best All-Star game in sports and it's due to the players giving a little effort. It's a max effort, they're giving effort and they're playing the sport that they're paid to play and I enjoy it. - It's baseball as a sport in which you can't have acid. - No. - You actually can't. I mean, you could do that in football which we saw when we saw the Pro Bowl where no one's blocking and you're just catching the football. - Sure. - In basketball, you know what that is, that's just open highlights just for Instagram and TikTok, that's all that is. But at baseball, it's hard for you to be like, you know, I know I throw 100 but I'm just gonna throw 89 just because. They don't do that because baseball players are what they are. I think that the hockey All-Star game is like that as well where it's hard for you to just give half effort. You can't do that. And so I would just say that yes, the uniforms, and I'm not usually that guy, Chris. I just use a bad look. - But I like to go with the flow. I'm gonna go with the flow guy as you want. I'm gonna go with the flow. It's like, okay, why are they doing this? I like to look at it at it from that standpoint. But that didn't look great. But the game was fine. It was the quickest game since the 1988 All-Star game. - Wow. - Because in that shows you how quickly the game moves. That whole thing, where you're trying to speed up the game, those guys, they weren't trying to be out there for three plus hours. It was just enough runs, eight runs. You got your highlight from Otani, you're good. - Yeah. - It's exactly what it is. And so everyone, I think everybody jacked it. Everybody get in, did someone get, I'm looking through this here. I'm trying to figure out if anyone got a short shrift. I think everyone got a chance to play. And so I think that's great. - 11 pitchers on the National League side. And I believe what we have about nine or 10 pitchers on the American League side. Like, yeah, I mean, I have no complaints about the actual game. And I know that a lot of talking points, I'm sure today in Sports Talk radio will be, how to change, how to fix, how to do this with the all-star game. I know Jack mentioned to us earlier, is it time to go back to playing for home field advantage? I don't think home field advantage would have added any extra value to last night's game. And then the fact that, like, I also think it's impressive. I don't know if it means anything, but the American League now has won 10 of 11 all-star games. That's pretty impressive because the National League this season has the best player in baseball, Shouhei Otani, they have the best team in baseball, the Phillies, right? Like, they have teams that are in players and stars Paul Skins was your starter who everyone raves about right now in Major League Baseball. - He's awesome. - And then the American League shows up and they just beat the National League each and every time they have an all-star game, right? I enjoy it. I don't think it's something you need to tinker with. And I, the only complaint I would say would be the visual of the actual jerseys. Otherwise, they're fine. - The jerseys are terrible. - And actually, I know this is in the phone of a lot of talk show hosts when you get to this time of the year in July in which you say, "Well, this is the week we try to fix baseball." In this situation, I think that some hosts that do what we do for a living would be at a loss because this is like commonplace. I've produced it, I've hosted it before. We've got to fix baseball. What's wrong with baseball? I mean, outside of saying that you want fewer games, baseball is as good as it's ever been because people said they don't want to have three-hour games. You're not having three-hour games anymore. Actually, the game is as quick as it's ever been. - It moves. - You've got young stars, you've got veteran stars. Also, it's still a crapshoot of who can win the World Series. You know, I asked Jesse every now and then like, "Who do you like, Philly or the Field? Do you like the Yankees or the Field?" And he says, "It's always wide open." So the game is solid. So for those that have said, this is the show where we're gonna fix baseball. What's the problem? Actually, there are no real problems with baseball as far as star power, accessibility, and everything else that comes along with it. - Yeah, it's never gonna win that battle with NFL football. It's just not. And that's where we're at today. I would say the other things that I enjoy, like the one thing the All-Star game does really well is they have the stand up for cancer moment, where everyone in the stadium gets to stand up, salute someone that they know, a family member, whatever, that's really cool. And David Ortiz in the dugouts interviewing players. It's fantastic. I usually can't stand the newly retired pro athlete who now is in the media, who's just like there for show. - Yeah. - David Ortiz is awesome. And those conversations he was having with the players, you could tell all of the players, no matter where they're from, respect and want to talk to David Ortiz and they know he's the dude. Like that was cool. That's cool. - Like a Barkley like figure. - Absolutely. - Not a way it's for Major League Baseball. - More polished, actually, because you know, Barkley at that stage, I don't think you could send him down to the All-Star bench and have those polished conversations, the way that Ortiz was just going from one person to the next. Every conversation was funny. And I enjoy how he's like, you know how we're in a day and age, you can't really, you can't offend anyone, right? - Yeah, exactly right. - He was just going in on Yankee players. - Yeah. - You're like, all right, he's just talking to an oriole. He's talking to a Blue Jay. Okay, go get the Yankees. Like that's all, I love that, that's awesome. - Yeah, and again, it adds personality to the game. - Yes. - Yes, it's a long season, but there's certain moments you say, I like that. - It was great. - So I enjoyed it. Again, I had a lot of things that I was watching, but I kept my eye on the All-Star game because after all, I grew up watching baseball and I just think that the sports is in a really good spot right now. Hey, let's talk about Caleb Williams and Roma Dunes. They signed their rookie contracts yesterday. Is there any concerns still for Williams? Let's talk about that. Shout out to No Shout out at eight o'clock right here. On a wall of Wednesday on the ESPN 1,000, Chris Black in for CAP. I am Jay Hood. Sorry, are we good now? Can you breathe now? You okay? Kayla Williams and Roma Dunezay have signed the rookie contract. - Yeah, we're good. - You okay? - Everything's ready to roll. Let's go. - I always want, it's not me. I wanna make sure you're okay. - Yeah, well I said yesterday I would be concerned if Roma Dunezay and Kayla Williams were not signed yesterday. If this was gonna be something that dragged on throughout the week and we were heading into Saturday, which is the scheduled first practice for the team, I would be concerned. I no longer am concerned. It's all set, we're ready to roll. Let's go win 10 ball games. - Kayla Williams signed a four year deal worth $39.4 million with a $25.5 million signing bonus. The Bears announced the Dunezay signing earlier in the afternoon, a four year deal worth $22.7 million, continuing a $13.3 million signing bonus. If nothing else, without being in the room, I would say, Chris, that it could be one of these situations where Dunezay's people wanted to know what Kayla Williams is gonna sign for and same thing with Kayla Williams and Roma Dunezay. Seeing if there's any extra bell and whistle that they might be missing on. 'Cause that's the part of the, that's the art of negotiation. Hey, I'm a rookie, he's a rookie. What's he getting? Okay, so what am I getting? That's all, I mean, but let me just make sure that I make this point. The point is, is that I know that there are some detractors of Kayla Williams before you can put some Bears uniform on and plays the first preseason game. There's already detractors. Stop trying to look for things that are negative about a young man before he even puts the uniform on. I think it's just, it's insane to me. If you are a Justin Fields fan, then be a Steeler fan. That's fine. If you feel like Fields got screwed, well, nothing you can do about it. Nothing I can do about it. Because, you know what happens in sports, you move on, you move on. There are no more Cal Ripkins and Tony Gwinds and the guy that would play for the Miami Heat for many years at the end of the bench. - Don's Haslam. - Is that you Don's Haslams anymore in sports where guys are just on the bench or just one team forever? My point is, is that you have to move on. And if you don't move on, that's on you. But I'm just talking about me as a fan. And understanding that every time that Kayla Williams breathes, it's a problem. This guy's holding on. He's a divi. He's gonna be holding on. I'm just telling you right, he signed. I mean, and so, my point is, stop looking for stuff to pick at this young man about. You want to pick at him? We got plenty of time to talk about, you know, the things that he does and does not do on the football field once he plays. That's when you can start taking a look at him. - Yeah, Courtney Cronin had some great reporting yesterday about the entire situation. And it goes back to the concern was with, you mentioned Roma Dunes, his agent, then waiting to see or vice versa on Caleb's side, waiting to see what the other rookie would get. The problem is, Caleb doesn't have an NFLPA agent. So his representation can't technically speak to the Chicago Bears. Even though Caleb is on the record saying that he's letting his people take care of it. There's something missing with how that kind of went down. So that's where the concern would come from is that, because Caleb Williams doesn't have a traditional agent, he has people that, he has lawyers, he has people on his team, they're not certified by the NFL to be in negotiations with an NFL team. So theoretically, Caleb is the one communicating back and forth, which that could get messy, perhaps. But like we kind of mentioned yesterday, the rookie scale contracts for all of these positions within the first round are slotted. So there's not a whole lot of wiggle room, but I think that's where the concern would come from is that if there was miscommunication or something going on in that setting, because of the choice that Caleb has made for his representation instead of having a traditional agent, like say, Roma Dunes, he has. - But the idea that he is a diva and was going to sit in is nonsense, because it's what you just said. The slot is the slot. There is no, well, we're gonna take on a little bit of extra money and more years. It's just not- - Well, that's not the case, boy. - I would say it was a thought to say, he's been on record saying he wants to break the mold for quarterbacks in the NFL. Like that's something he has said in the past. And when you look at it, what's the wiggle room? Is it guaranteed money upfront? Is it signing bonus? Like what is actually in the contract that you're trying to negotiate when you don't have that typical agent to be the middle man between the two parties? - You break the mold by winning. And then from there, the game handsomely paid for the winning and the championships. Like at this point in time, sounds ridiculous, Chris, but this is where we are in the NFL today. When you take a look at the quarterback contracts, Patrick Mahomes is underpaid. - Yeah. - It's as crazy as that sounds. He's the best quarterback in the national football league. Someone say the best football player in the NFL. And look at what he's making versus the amount of money that's being dulled out to other players and other quarterbacks. When he talks about breaking the mold, and I'm not speaking for Caleb Williams, I would imagine that he has this pie in the sky thought of man, I'm going to be able to sonically break through and be able to not only help myself, but also help others in the NFL as far as how much he's getting paid in the NFL. - Yeah. - I mean, but it's not going to be from the beginning. - Well, you know what the rumor was in the off season and at the end of the college football season was that he wanted part ownership. Wherever he goes, he wants part ownership. He wants to be the first guy that's getting paid and also is a partner. But like that, that theoretically at this moment is not true. That's something that was kind of said from his father that was in an interview that people then attributed to a direct quote from Caleb Williams. He's never actually said that. - Here's something, here's something for you. - Okay, say for instance, that's exactly his mindset. The mindset of, you know what, I want to have part ownership of the Bears or I won't play for the team. Then he actually does play for the team. Well, let's stop you from being a Bears fan. Like any demand that he has, but I understand the point is Chris is that no matter what the guy says, do you feel like, well, you know, I disagree with that. So I'm not going to be a Bears fan. Of course you're not going to stop being a Bears fan. We've had a lot of interesting characters and personalities and their duels and a lot of different type of people that have come through Alice Hall. A lot over the years, right? But it doesn't stop you from rooting for the blue and orange because you're a fan of the team. Yes, you want to feel like you're close to the player that you root for. You feel like, hey, I can put, I can put his poster on my wall, theoretically. But the point is, is that you're not going to stop being a Bears fan. This whole thing of Caleb Williams and, well, he wants to break the mold and he's this and he's that. Well, you know, I don't want to classify him as a winner and a Super Bowl champion. I don't care about the personalities much it is. How can he increase the chances of the Bears winning? Yeah, and he's a player. He's a rookie, a number one draft pick that's entering the NFL in a situation that I don't think we've ever seen before. Not only is he already extremely famous because of college football and winning the Heisman two years ago, he also is rich. Yes. It's because of the NIL in college football and his status as a college football player for the last two seasons at USC has led to millions of dollars in his pocket, which is fantastic because it sets a different set of priorities for someone when they become professional because theoretically, if you want to break the mold, wouldn't you at some point, maybe not force the team to give you as much as possible so then you could spend it elsewhere? That's kind of what Patrick Mahomes is doing with his contract at this moment. Sure. And you allow those around you to get some so then you can win because that's like, that's the one thing I keep pointing to with Caleb Williams. In his life so far, he's already rich. He's already famous. He was extremely famous last year, living in Hollywood. Being a great college football player, everyone knows who he is. Sure. NIL deals, sponsorship deals. He's got all that made already. He's the new form of star as far as a Gen Z star athlete. He is bigger off the field than some aspects that he is on the field. The thing that's missing is winning. He did not win at USC. He didn't. That's what's missing. He needs to win now on the football field and like you kind of laid out. Once you do that, everything else will be with, with them going forward. Whatever else that he needs, whatever mold he wants, whatever sites he sets in National Football League, the winning comes first. Yeah, the winning comes first. Unless you're Deshawn Watson. (bell ringing) Hello? Hello? Who's this? (indistinct) (laughing) This is Chicago Bears, man. How you doing? I'm good. I'm good. Yes, and that's how the deal was signed yesterday. I love how you point out in the past when you play that clip that he doesn't say. It's Ryan Paul's. He's Chicago Bears. That's the Chicago Bears. Chicago Bears calling. I love that. Ready Chris? - Yeah. - Justin Jefferson. - Yeah, he's top 10. - Tyre Kill. - Tyre Kill, top 10. - Jamar Chase. - Nope. - Yes. - Yeah, he's top 10. - CD Lamb. - CD Lamb, yeah. So what's that, four? That's five? - Yup, four. - AJ Brown. - AJ Brown, yup. - Devontae Adams. - George starts getting this thing. - Yeah, sure. - Yeah, I'm on Ross St. Brown. - Same Brown I would put in there for sure. - That's seven. - Brandon Ayuk. - Ayuk is right on the cusp. - Could you say yes? - Yeah. - Yeah, okay. - Yeah, eight. Cooper Cup. - Cooper Cup, yeah. - Nine. - Debo Samuel. - No? - Yeah, yeah. Debo, Debo's. Yeah, he's right there. - We are full. - Pukanekuul. - Well, I gave you 10. - No, I know. - So he's right there in the conversation. I don't think DJ Moore is top 10. I think he's very good. I don't think he's top 10. - I think this year he's going to be top 10. - I hope. - I think someone's got to be 10. - I hope he's top 10. - Stefan Diggs. - No, he's starting to take a step back. - Gary Wilson. - Not yet. - DeAndre Hopkins. - Now we're getting 10 through 12 or 15, right? - Stefan Diggs was nine in the ESPN list. Mike Evans at eight. Somebody went in and mentioned. (laughs) - Hall of Famer, Mike Evans? - Yeah, I think he's Hall of Famer. - Yeah, absolutely. - So here's the thing. Here's how I feel, Jack. I think that DJ Moore is at 10 out of these wide receivers. And if he's not, he will be when the season's over. Because I think he'll get a lot of, I think he'll be able to get some touchdowns and be able to help stretch this offense with his young quarterback. That's what I believe. - We're also missing a name. We're discussing DJ Moore, but last year, yards per game, Keenan Allen was fourth in the NFL. - Do you want to hear something even crazier? So about 20 guys got votes on this list. More than 20, it was about 25. Keenan Allen did not receive a single vote on this list. - If we're debating DJ Moore, Keenan Allen should be in the debate for top 10 as well. Keenan Allen, fourth in yards per game last year. I got it. - Terry McLorin, Calvin Ridley, George Pickens, Michael Pitman, Courtland Sutton, all got votes, Keenan Allen did not get a vote. - Okay, Keenan Allen was also sixth in receptions last year. - Yep. It's quiet, unfortunately. He does not get the acclaim that he deserves. - Yeah. - I love that. - I think that's what it is. - But he's in the conversation. - He just quietly gets the job done, Chris. - Yeah. - But I would say that if he's not now, he will be a top 10 receiver of one is all squared away. Especially when you have a quarterback that's gone through over 4,000 yards. Here's Jack McGrath. - Jack? - So Doug Gottlieb, hoodie, you brought this to my attention. - This guy. - What? - That's just so funny, man. - This guy, man. - Doug Gottlieb-- - He thinks I'm talking about Jack. I'm talking about how Doug Gottlieb, this guy. Unbelievable. - Oh, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. Yeah, Doug Gottlieb, you brought this to my attention. Onax, he's a commentator. And now he's coaching the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball team. While doing both, he said onax that he doesn't think Bronnie James would start on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This, in my opinion, is ridiculous because Bronnie James was still a four-star recruit. He would start on this team whose recruiting class doesn't even register on any of the major recruiting sites. Shot or no shot, Bronnie James would not start at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. - That's a no shot. - He would start. - He would be the best player on this team. - Yes, he would start at Green Bay. So Chris and I have covered the Horizon League before. That place rocks. That are-- - It's a really good gym. - It's a really good gym. - So we've been there, but that program has been a joke ever since. Now the Bo Ryan's son coached there for a while. They've had some troubles there. Now they go with Doug Gottlieb, no experience, but head coach for Wookie Boogie. - Okay, let me just tell you this. He could say that he would compete, but there's no question that Bronnie James would be good enough to play on that team. - Green Bay? - Yeah. - You know Horizon League? - He can play in the Horizon League. - Of course he would play in Horizon League. - Of course. I mean, some of the guys that are in the Horizon League. - Brother. - God bless him. - Yeah, but Bronnie James would play in Horizon League and would play in Green Bay. Once again, this is Doug Gottlieb, the talk show host meeting Doug Gottlieb, the head coach. 'Cause the talk show host on Fox Sports Radio is trying to take shots at Bronnie James. Like everyone else is, by the way. Oh, because he's LeBron's son. And oh, he can't, yeah, he's had his problems playing. There's no doubt. He is not the finished product. He is absolutely not. But the idea that he couldn't play on a mid-major D1 team, of course he would, and he would start on that team. - Yeah, he would be, he would absolutely start for Green Bay. I would also say like, was it Doug Gottlieb? It was too much time filling in for cow herd in the last two weeks. So he just was running out of takes. So he needed to give, he needed to fire off one on Bronnie. - He doubled down. - They didn't play for the team. - He doubled down. I saw the video on XU. He doubled down on it from his office in Green Bay. It wasn't in Lost Age, I could tell. It was in the office. He hasn't stacked his books or his awards up there yet. It's just kind of a dank dark office in Green Bay. - There's only one talk show host who should be coaching a basketball team and hosting a show at the same time. And it's not Doug Gottlieb. - Oh, I love Ellie. - Yeah, that's what he's out there right now, recruiting. That's why I'm here. I'm here because cap's out recruiting. - Cap is really good. - I know he's good. - He's really good. - Of course. - He needs to take over one of these Chicago programs. - Brother, let me tell you something. While he's in here, he's drawn a place and he's going back to the old '80s. He's going back to the old dusty book to come up to his place with these 10 year olds. He's really good at that. - I've seen the footage of the captains. The captains, is that what they're called? The captains? They is Ermin's son's team. - One of the only teams ever that's named after their head coach. - Let's see, that's great. - There it is. - That's like the original owner for the Bobcats, the Charlotte Bobcats. Naming the Bobcats, the Bobcats, because his name was Bob. - Bob Johnson. - That's great. - Former owner of BET. - Yeah. - Absolutely. - Black Entertainment Television Jack. - Yeah. - Used to be on cable. - Yep. - You scroll through the guide. Some good stuff there. - Still there. - No, I mean, like, 'cause I'm saying to Jack doesn't, he's not familiar with the guy. Like, I know-- - I know of cable still. - I know that I'm talking to a super Genzier right now. And that's why I had to say used to be cable, 'cause you and I get it. - Yeah, it's actually nice. - Yeah, but he needs to know. - Jack is just only the stream. It's all he's got, the stream. - He, you don't turn a blind eye to it. You might get a job there on one day, Jack. Swacking me at football. You never know. You might be the player I play guy. You'll stand out, but who knows? Here's Jack. - Um, he's baller basketball. Dealers choice. What do you guys want? - Basketball. - Basketball. - Oops. - Joe Cowley tweeted last night. That Zach Levine could still be moved before the start of the season. He specifically mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers as a team to watch out for shot or no shot. Levine could still be moved before the start of the season. - I think it's an absolute shot. We were just discussing it yesterday. It has to happen. So I think it's a shot. I'm glad that there's now continuous information being put out there. Joe Cowley is one of the best in town covering the Chicago Bulls. The Clippers are in a tough spot. Paul George is now with the Sixers. They re-signed James Harden. Kawhi Leonard is once again injured. Paul's out of Team USA, which I thought was funny to start is he can't even limp through an NBA season, but he was going to play in the summer for the Olympic team. But he's not there. So the Clippers need some firepower. That would be a good spot to send Zach Levine. He can't be on this roster next year. He can't. - Now, if you're trying to tank because he will be just good enough to get you in the play-in. I'm just saying, and Jack, I want to make sure it's very clear now. It's very clear. I'm not blaming Zach Levine for where the Bulls are. I am not. What I'm saying is, is that the organization has decided to go in a different direction now, knowing that as is, it wasn't good enough. You're not even a top nine team as is. That's why Caruso's not here anymore. That's why DeRosa's not here anymore, because you have no other choice. Would you rather be a team that's just floating, trying to get to ninth or tenth place, or would you rather restart the organization with young players and make your way up? And even with that, you're still not Milwaukee. You're still not Philadelphia. You're still not the Knicks. You're still not the Indiana Pacers. You're not the Boston Celtics. But you have to start someplace. And just being on the treadmill of mediocrity was not good enough. I always say, in sports is always a sucker, right? You have always the need. And the Clippers, that's a team there. They got a new stadium, then they want to fill it. And they want to get some, they want to get in the playoffs, and they want to compete with the Lakers. There is a spot right there that Zach Levine would be amenable to. Back to Los Angeles, back to LA. - Yeah. - Oh my God. - Absolutely. - Back to the West Coast. That's exactly where you want to be. - Can we send vouch with? - Send them off. - That way you're solidified to be in the Cooper flag, sweepstakes, right? - Well, it's just Bozzellis all season long. That's all we need. You see him again last night? - I watched him. I watched him. But because you can't depend on Kawhi Leonard, that's where Zach could come in and be like, give you a good 25/26 of game. - Yeah. (laughing) - Or Kawhi. Can you squeeze in one more, Jack? - I can. So the awful announcing put out their fan voted announcer rankings. - Oh, this should be good today. There was a Chicago team at the bottom. It was the Chicago White Sox, with John Shriffen and Steve Stone. - We're on the haters! - Their most common grade was an F. Shot or no shot, this announcing pair deserves to be ranked the last in Major League Baseball. - That's a no shot. That's not the worst booth in baseball. It is not. - I would agree. I think it's a little bit harsh to rank them dead last. I think everything that's gone on this year and the team not being good contributes to them being ranked last right now. Plus you're going from Benetti, who's was consistently ranked in the top 10 of these rankings to somebody else and a lot of Sox fans, some of their main basis is going to be Benetti, 'cause that's the most games they've watched and then Shriffen's gonna have to outperform that in order to get a good grade. - It's a functional booth. First of all, it's the worst human baseball, yes, but it's not the worst booth in baseball. Steve Stone holds that up and John is just young, but that's not the worst booth in baseball. And I feel like I watch a lot of baseball 'cause I got the package, the baseball package, so I can kind of speak to a lot of these booths I watch, but that's not the worst booth in baseball. - It's pretty close though. - Well, the A's are. - Yeah, the A's are terrible. But I would say that the White Sox are giving the A's a run for their money though. They're in the conversation. It's pretty bad. - Steve Stone holds that up with that analysis. - Stone still can bring it, but it's a bad, it's bad. - The ball club's bad. - It's all bad. I mean, based on the rationale to why we're at this point, the organization has to wear the grade. - That's fine. - Right, choices were made. That's why you got trippin' in there, calling out all the losers. - Now listen, you're all the haters. - You're next to a guy that mostly consumes White Sox baseball by listening to Lennon DJ. - Great booth. - That's what I do because I can move around and listen. And if I need to see a highlight, I can go to the TV and watch it. But mostly, the way I consume White Sox most years is the radio call and watching it on TV. That way I can get up and put another load of laundry in, go to the yard, go whatever. But it's not the worst booth in baseball, it's not, it's Oakland. - Something I was thinking about last night during the All-Star game. - Yes, you know, here's a different split with a young guy who is new to a market slash new to a scene. It's Joe Davis. Joe Davis now fits in as the voice of Major League Baseball. Calling the All-Star game, calling the World Series. At first, people were like, oh, is he ready for this spot? But you know what, he doesn't make the broadcast about him. And that's why it works now. I don't get that same thing from the new White Sox lead announcer. - I understood. - Right, like, it's been too much about him. And that's why I think it's a turn off to many people. Joe Davis is great now because it's not about him. He's just calling the game. - The Cubs, by the way, are ninth on this list. - That's pretty good. The Cubs have a good and broadcast team. That's good. No, Shambi? - It's nice. - JD? - It's a properly placed, I would say. - I like it. I think it's good. - It's fine. - I like it. What was the shot or no shot? Do they deserve to be last? - You say it's a shot. - I say it's a shot. - I'm saying it's a shot. - You're saying no shot. - It's not a shot. I watch enough baseball to know that that's not the worst with the baseball. - The A's are pretty bad. - Yeah. - It's pretty bad. - It's a bad booth. - Yeah. - Nothing against Dallas Brayden, but that's a bad booth. - You can listen to every game on the ESPN Chicago app if you want to hear the radio crew. - I agree. - Connor McKnight has a pregame show. Len and DJ have the call of the game. - Who in it? - You know. - Put also in the producer text chat that Jonathan Hood said four minutes ago, I consume White Sox baseball by listening to Len and DJ. - I'm re-emphasizing it. - You've missed it. - No, I heard it. But people could be listening in their car and then they also can listen on the app when they're watching the game on TV. - Yeah. - Double down. I heard it. - Here's Chris Black, Chris. - Shower no shot. Jack McGrath. There you go. - Well, they're very good. - Yep. - Very good. We have around the NFL is right around the corner. Don't forget it's a Waddle Windsor. We'll hear from Tom Waddle at 8.35. Captain Jay Hood weekday morning, seven to 10. - Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. - It both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. - The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. - I love Twitter. - He starts to come at any moment. - This is a really thickly built guy. - I mean, what's the answer you're looking for? These things here. - It is time to go around the NFL right here on the cap and Jay Hood morning show on a ESPN1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with Chris Black and for Cap. I am Jay Hood. We're with you until 10 o'clock. - Yeah, my Greenberg comes in at 10, followed by Carmon and Yerko at 12, Waddle and Sylvie. 230 to 630 into Abdullah on the Black Nubdala show. Around the NFL, here's Jack McGrath. - All right, trade rumors, still all around. Brandon Iyuk officially requests a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. I find this very interesting because the San Francisco 49ers cap is not good for 2025. They still have a lot of room this year, but next year, they're ranked third to last in the NFL in terms of open cap space. Do you think Brandon Iyuk is traded this off season? - Man. - I'm San Francisco. I do all I can for him to stay. I feel like I'm on the cusp of something special here. I you could be part of that, right? - Yeah, don't do anything if you're the 49ers. Was he gonna just hold out the entire season? He's not gonna do that. He says he doesn't want play for the team. He wants to trade. They don't have to do anything though. - I wait, I wait it out. At some point he's gonna want to play. You don't have to do anything as the team. - Yeah. And then what's the equal value for a Brandon Iyuk, the kind of production that he brings? Listen, I know that the offensive times can look color by the numbers, Chris, in which it's like, the system is the system, but Brock Purdy still needs a game changer and Iyuk is that guy. - Yeah, he is. I'd also say we just ran through the list of top 10 wide receivers about 20 minutes ago and he's on that list. Top 10 guys. And I think what kind of adds to the, what we're looking for here in Chicago is that Kittle Williams is going to have multiple threats from a wide receiver position moving forward and that's what Purdy has with the 49ers. Multiple ways to get you with the receivers. Not only the wide receivers, but also Kittle as a tight end and the running back in McCaffrey. So I think it all kind of mixes together unless they can get some pieces for the future as far as draft capital, I would wait. I wouldn't do anything if I were the 49ers. - I would agree with that. - Paul's bluff. - Of course, Evan Cohen would say, all you need is George Kittle. You don't need a receiver, so it's fine. - And a running back. - The best pass catcher in the league. One of the top five is Chris McCaffrey according to Evan Cohen from a sportsman like, so it's good enough. - Something else to watch out for though with this is Brock Purdy's contract. He doesn't have that fifth year option. So after 2025, they are also potentially going to have to pay Brock Purdy. Then you could have a huge wide receiver one salary on the books as well as a starting quarterback salary on the books. - On Brock Purdy, I'm like, all right, cool, 40 million. And I know that would blow people's hair back. Like, what do you mean 40 million? Well, that's going, right? Give me my money. - You better make sure that he's the guy and not a system quarterback then. - They're all system quarterbacks. - But this could be, you know, it's how Kirk Cousins has, now in multiple spots, been a very good quarterback. But teams have not wanted to commit to him long term. And that's why he's bounced around now from Washington to Minnesota to now Atlanta. So I like, make sure that Brock Purdy is worthy of getting that payday. - Jaymore. - What Mark Purdy got to do is say Daniel Jones. - Yeah. - Yeah. - They're gonna pay you. - They have to. - I'm with you. - I'm sure he's that guy. - I mean, but I mean, even if you're not sure, here's where we are in sports now in the NFL. Even if you're not sure, you're just paying on potential. Like, right now in ESPN Milwaukee, they're talking about this morning with Jen, Gabe, and Chewy, their morning show. It's talking about Jordan Love and how much he's gonna get. We've had Chefter on this morning, talking about how much will Jordan Love get here in the, what is new contract? Like, how much is that 40 million? Is that 35? Is that 50 million? That's the question, Jack. - I think it's closer to 50 than 35. - Holy smokes. - I agree with Jack. - And again, and again, we saw him for one year, Jordan Love, one year. He wasn't embarrassing. He was solid. But this is the going rate. My home should hold out for more. - That's why when you have a quarterback that you pay, you have to make sure he's in the top elite class. Because if he's not, you find yourselves in the situation that the Saints are in with Derek Carr. He's not that guy. And that's why Tennessee is moving off of Ryan Tannehill. They went with Will Levis. They don't need the guy who was just average. You can't pay for an average quarterback. And you better make, if you're a 49er fan, you better make sure that Brock Purdy is not just an average quarterback propped up by a great head coach and all of these shiny toys around him offensively. - This will be a question about Tua as well, Chris. - Tua and then Dak. - And Dak's the other name. - And Tua, you're right with Tua. The thing about Tua is I like, I like Tua. - Yeah. - He just seems fragile. - Right, like the injury concern is there. Concussions in the past. Can he stay healthy? Again, shiny toys around him. Great wide receivers. - It's the all of dollar line though. The classic of dollar line is, if you're going to move on from your quarterback, who do you have to replace that production? 'Cause your backup is a fall off. It's what Adam says all the time. - Well, and that's where the Cowboys are walking themselves into this weird situation. Like, you have to pay Dak Prescott. He's worth, he was playing an MVP season last year. He didn't win it, but he was in that conversation. That's how good Dak Prescott was. You got to pay him. - Well, what do you do? What are the Cowboys going to do? - Right, like there's not big time free agent quarterbacks anymore. That doesn't happen. - So, I mean, that's all part of it. Jack, can you squeeze in one more? 'Cause it's a waddle Wednesday. - I can. - I think the Chiefs are toying with us a little bit, at least Patrick Mahomes, because I'll just read the headline. Chiefs, comma, Patrick Mahomes, I'm title, but want more quote, fun along the way. Winning the championship wasn't fun enough. He says, not seeing week to week improvements every single week wasn't as fun as it has been in years past. So, he wants more fun when winning the title this year. Apparently, having Taylor Swift in the building wasn't fun enough. It's about striving for more. Once you've had a taste, you want more. And when he says, more fun, he doesn't want to go through the growing pains and the frustration of all these guys dropping passes and all of the histrionics and all that stuff that went along with the Chiefs winning the championship. I think that that's what he means. Having fun, meaning being able to execute, whereas it seems like it was a strain on them last year. I will always, did you notice that? - Yeah, it started with the Lions game last year to start this year. - It seems like it was the hardest championship that they had to win. - I will, always, lean towards Michael Jordan in the last dance. It's not supposed to be fun. Winning at the highest level is not fun. The result is fun and the way Jordan puts it in the last dance, you don't want to win like tough. This is how it happens. Like, I would be careful wishing for more fun and sacrificing something that is winning. - Yeah. - Just keep winning. That's all that matters. - Tommy, that makes sense, right? You're just trying to win. It's one thing to win, but there's always more to achieve. If you got to a certain level, a championship level, you're like, okay, what's next was to win, now win with having more fun or doing it differently. - Look, I think they're intertwined. I think, I mean, if you're winning and not having fun, well, I don't know what to tell you, get out of the business, you know? Or, I mean, like, I don't know, when you've won three Super Bowls and you're not 30 and you're off coming off back-to-back wins, like, you've run out of things to say to people, so I wouldn't overly dissect anything he's saying right now. I think they're just, this is that period of time, you guys know it, Chris and Jonathan and everybody. We are so damn bored. Right, we'll say anything to try to spark a conversation. For crying out loud, they're on ESPN, they've got a top 100 list of most accomplished people since 2000, like, we need football to start. Thank God it's starting, but, yeah, I think that, I think they're having plenty of fun and can't see. I wanna have no fun, but have a record like theirs here in Chicago over the next five years. He doesn't buzz at that, let's do that. - Let's do that. - Hey, I mean, you talk about looking for football start. Football's already start, Tom, welcome to SEC Media Day, football. - SEC Media Day, hello, my name's Ben McDonald. I'm from the Pick A You and Sudden Time tribute and I wanna talk to you about your ball club, you're a good ball coach, goal coach. I really like what you're able to do. Tell me if you're gonna win the national championship. Thank you very much, God bless you. - So he got the SEC Media Days, it's already, that's usually the question at SEC Media Day. No question at all, just to God bless you and your good coach. - Yeah, hey coach. - Always wrapped up with a God bless you and your family. God bless you and your family. - Waddle Wednesday continues on the cap
