[MUSIC PLAYING] Good morning, Chicago. And welcome in to the "Cap and J. Good Morning" show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With Chris Blackin for "Cap," I'm J. Hood. Here's hoping that you're going to have a great Wednesday. It's a wattle Wednesday here on "Cap and J. Hood." And now time for "Shutter No Shot" brought to you by the fine folks over at ESPN Betz. Now live in Illinois, sign up today. And new users get $100 in bonus bets for making any sports book bet. Good job, Jack. My bet on that one. Hello, Jack. What's going on? Good morning. How about that, J. Moore? Good. Now here's the Savior right here. Let me just show you the suntan Superman behind you. Here's what he did for me. Made me a list. Justin Kase, the old backup player. Yeah. It's outstanding. Justin Kase. Gotta have it, man. Gotta have it. Justin Kase. Yes, sir. And he made it a nice big print because he knows I can't see anymore. So he gave him double space and nicely done. It's fantastic. Yes. ESPN Bet. Good job, Jack McGrath. Ah. [LAUGHTER] Well, well, that one's on me. Oh, well, well, well, well, well, there's a mouthful. Oh, well, folks. That one's on me. Not bad. But that's OK, but see, but-- You see, it's still happening. You still have the read. We had the backups in place. Listen, listen, I know that you feel bad, but you don't have to feel bad because that's why we're a team. Yeah, the back because I had it right here. Boom. See? And the whole read right here, just in case. See? It's nice and bagen. The backup. Yeah. Now, put that in the producer's chat. Make sure you put that in there to actually save the segment. Put that in your little group chat. Put that group chat. Yeah. But add that. It might be too positive for that chat. Here's Jack McGrath, Jack. All right, ESPN's been releasing their rankings of different positions. It's voted on. It says by execs, scouts, coaches. Today was the wide receiver rankings. And something that caught my eye is that no Chicago bear was in the top 10 shot or no shot. DJ Moore is outside of the top 10 wide receivers. OK, let's go through it. Ready, Chris? Yeah. Justin Jefferson. Yeah, he's top 10. Tyre Kill. Tyre Kill, top 10. Jamar Chase. No? Yes. Yeah, he's top 10. CD Lam. CD Lam. Yeah, so what's that for? That's five. Four. AJ Brown. AJ Brown. Yeah. Devontae Adams. George starts getting this. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. I'm on Ross St. Brown. St. Brown I would put in there for sure. That's seven. Brandon Iyuk. Iyuk is right on the cusp. Could you say yes? Yeah. Yeah. OK. Yeah. Eight. Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup. Yeah. Nine. Debo Samuel. No? Yeah. Yeah. Debo. Debo's. Yeah. He's he's right there. We are full. Pukinikou. Well, I gave you 10. He's right there in the conversation. I don't think DJ Moore is top 10. I think he's very good. I don't think he's top 10. I think this year he's going to be top 10. I hope someone's got to be 10. I hope he's top 10. Step on Dix. No, he's he's starting to take a step back. Gary Wilson. Not yet. DeAndre Hopkins. Now we're getting 10 through 12 or 15, right? Step on Dix was nine in the ESPN list. Mike Evans at eight. Somebody went in and mentioned. Hall of Famer Mike Evans. Yeah, I think he's Hall of Famer. Yeah, absolutely. So here's the thing. Here's how I feel, Jack. I think that DJ Moore is at 10 out of these wide receivers. And if he's not, he will be when the season's over. Because I think he'll get a lot of-- I think he'll be able to get some touchdowns and be able to help stretch this offense with his young quarterback. That's what I believe. We're also missing a name. We're discussing DJ Moore, but last year, yards per game, Keenan Allen was fourth in the NFL. Do you want to hear something even crazier? So about 20 guys got votes on this list more than 20. It was about 25. Keenan Allen did not receive a single vote on this list. If we're debating DJ Moore, Keenan Allen should be in the debate for top 10 as well. Keenan Allen, fourth in yards per game last year. I got it. Terry McLaurin, Calvin Ridley, George Pickens, Michael Pittman, Courtland Sutton, all got votes. Keenan Allen did not get a vote. OK. Keenan Allen was also sixth in receptions last year. Yep. It's quiet, unfortunately. He does not get the acclaim that he deserves. Yeah. I love that. I think that's what it is. But he's in the conversation. He just quietly gets the job done, Chris. Yeah. But I would say that if he's not now, he will be a top 10 receiver, born as all squared away. Especially when you have a quarterback that's gone through over 4,000 yards. Here's Jack McGrath. Jack? So Doug Gottlieb, hoodie, you brought this to my attention. What? That's just so funny, man. This guy, man. Doug Gottlieb. He thinks I'm talking about Jack. I'm talking about how Doug Gottlieb, this guy. Unbelievable. Oh, gotcha. Gotcha, gotcha. Yeah. Doug Gottlieb, you brought this to my attention on X. He's a commentator. And now he's coaching the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay men's basketball team. While doing both, he said on X that he doesn't think Bronnie James would start on the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. This, in my opinion, is ridiculous, because Bronnie James was still a four-star recruit. He would start on this team whose recruiting class doesn't even register on any of the major recruiting sites. Shot or no shot, Bronnie James would not start at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. That's a no shot. He would start. He would be the best player on this. Yes, he would start at Green Bay. So Chris and I have covered the Horizon League before. That place rocks. That are really good gym. It's a really good gym. Good gym. So we've been there. But that program has been a joke ever since. The Bo Ryan's son coached there for a while. They've had some troubles there. Now they go with Doug Gottlieb. No experience, but head coach for Wookie Boogie. OK, let me just tell you this. He could say that he would compete, but there's no question that Bronnie James would be good enough to play on that team. Green Bay? Yeah, you know, Horizon League? He can play in the Horizon League. Of course he would play in the Horizon League. Of course. I mean, some of the guys that are in the Horizon League. Brother. God bless him. Yeah. But Bronnie James would play in the Horizon League and would play in Green Bay. Once again, this is Doug Gottlieb, the talk show host meeting Doug Gottlieb, the head coach. Because the talk show host on Fox Sports Radio is telling you it's trying to take shots at Bronnie James. Like everyone else is, by the way, all because he's LeBron's son. And oh, he can't-- yeah, he's had his problems playing. There's no doubt. He is not the finished product. He is absolutely not. But the idea that he couldn't play on a mid-major D1 team, of course he would. And he would start on that team. Yeah, he would absolutely start for Green Bay. I would also say, like, was it Doug Gottlieb? It was too much time filling in for cow herd in the last two weeks. So he just was running out of takes. So he needed to give-- he needed to fire off one on Bronnie. He doubled down. They played for the team. He doubled down. I saw the video on XU. He doubled down on it from his office in Green Bay. It wasn't in Lost Age, I could tell. It was in the office. He hasn't stacked his books or his awards up there yet. It's just kind of a dank dark office in Green Bay. There's only one talk show host who should be coaching a basketball team and hosting a show at the same time. And it's not Doug Gottlieb. Oh, yeah. Yeah, Steve, the camp one. Yeah, that's what he's out there right now recruiting. That's why I'm here. I'm here because cap's out recruiting. Cap is really good. I know he's good. He's really good. Of course. He needs to take over one of these Chicago programs. Brother, let me tell you something. While he's in here, he's drawn to plays. And he's going back to the old '80s. He's going back to the old dusty book to come up these plays, these 10-year-olds. He's really good at that. I've seen the footage of the captains. Yeah. Is that what they're called? The captains? Dave Zimmerman's son's team. Yeah. One of the many teams ever that's named after their head coach. Let's see. That's great. There it is. That's like the original owner for the Bobcats, the Charlotte Bobcats, naming the Bobcats the Bobcats because his name was Bob. Bob Johnson. That's great. Former owner of BET. Yeah. Absolutely. Black Entertainment Television, Jack. Yeah. Yep. Used to be on cable. Yep. You scroll through the guide. Some good stuff there. Still there. No, I mean, I'm saying to Jack, he's not familiar with Jack. Like, I know-- I know of cable still. I know that I'm talking to a super genzier right now. And that's why I had to say it used to be cable, because you and I get it. Yeah, it's absolutely not. Yeah. But he needs to know. Jack is just only the stream. That's all he's got, the stream. He-- you don't turn a blind eye to it. You might get a job there one day, Jack. Swacking me at football. You never know. You might be the play guy. You'll stand out. You'll stand out, but who knows? Here's Jack. Baseball or basketball? Dealer's choice. What do you guys want? Basketball. Basketball. Hoops. Joe Cowley tweeted last night that Zach Levine could still be moved before the start of the season. He specifically mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers as a team to watch out for shot or no shot. Levine could still be moved before the start of the season. I think it's an absolute shot. We were just discussing it yesterday. It has to happen. So I think it's a shot. I'm glad that there's now continuous information being put out there. Joe Cowley is one of the best in town, covering the Chicago Bulls. The Clippers are in a tough spot. Paul George is now with the Sixers. They re-signed James Harden. Kawhi Leonard is once again injured. Pulls out of Team USA, which I thought was funny to start, is he can't even limp through an NBA season, but he was going to play in the summer for the Olympic team. But he's not there. So the Clippers need some firepower. That would be a good spot to send Zach Levine. He can't be on this roster next year. He can't. Now if you're trying to tank because he will be just good enough to get you in the play in. I'm just saying, and Jack, I want to make sure it's very clear now. It's very clear. I'm not blaming Zach Levine for where the Bulls are. I am not. What I'm saying is, is that the organization has decided to go in a different direction now, knowing that as is, it wasn't good enough. You're not even a top nine team, as is. That's why Caruso's not here anymore. That's why DeRosa's not here anymore, because you have no other choice. Would you rather be a team that's just floating, trying to get to ninth or tenth place? Or would you rather restart the organization with young players and make your way up? And even with that, you're still not Milwaukee. You're still not Philadelphia. You're still not the Knicks. You're still not the Indiana Pacers. You're not the Boston Celtics. But you have to start someplace. And just being on the treadmill of mediocrity was not good enough. I always say, in sports, there's always a sucker, right? You're always the need. And the Clippers, that's a team there. They got a new stadium, then they want to fill it. And they want to get the playoffs, and they want to compete with the Lakers. There is a spot right there that Zach Levine would be amenable to. Back to Los Angeles. Back to LA. Yeah. Oh my god. Absolutely. Back to the West Coast. That's exactly where you want to be. Can we send Vooch with? Send them off. That way you're solidified to be in the Cooper flag sweepstakes, right? Well, it's just Bozzellas all season long. That's all we need. You see him again last night? I watched him. I watched him. But because you can't depend on Kawhi Leonard, that's where Zach could come in and be like, give you a good 25-26 of game. Yeah. Or Kawhi. Can you squeeze in one more, Jack? I can. So the awful announcing put out their fan-voted announcer rankings. Oh, this should be good today. There was a Chicago team at the bottom. It was the Chicago White Sox with John Shriffon and Steve Stone. They're most common grade was an F shot or no shot. This announcing pair deserves to be ranked the last in Major League Baseball. That's a no shot. That's not the worst booth in baseball. It is not. I would agree. I think it's a little bit harsh to rank them dead last. I think everything that's gone on this year and the team not being good contributes to them being ranked last right now. Plus, you're going from Benetti, who was consistently ranked in the top 10 of these rankings to somebody else. And a lot of Sox fans, some of their main basis is going to be Benetti, because that's the most games they've watched. And then Shriffon is going to have to outperform that in order to get a good grade. It's a functional booth. First of all, it's the worst human baseball. Yes. But it's not the worst booth in baseball. Steve Stone holds that up. And John is just young. But that's not the worst booth in baseball. And I feel like I watch a lot of baseball, because I got the package, the baseball package. So I can kind of speak to a lot of these booths I watch. But that's not the worst booth in baseball. It's pretty close, though. Well, the A's are. Yeah, the A's are terrible. But I would say that the White Sox are giving the A's a run for their money, though. They're in the conversation. It's pretty bad. Steve Stone holds that up with that analysis. Stone still can bring it, but it's a bad. It's bad. The ball club's bad. It's all bad. I mean, based on the rationale to why we're at this point, the organization has to wear the grade. That's fine. That's fine. Right. The choices were made. That's why you got trippin' in there. Going out all the losers. Now, listen, you're all the haters. You're next to a guy that mostly consumes White Sox baseball by listening to Lennon DJ. Great booth. Now, that's what I do, because I can move around and listen. And if I need to see a highlight, I can go to the TV and watch it. But mostly, the way I consume White Sox most years is the radio call and watching it on TV. That way I can get up and put another load of laundry in, go to the yard, go whatever. So, but it's not the worst booth in baseball. It is not, it's Oakland. Something I was thinking about last night during the All-Star game. Yes. You know, here's a different split with a young guy who is new to a market slash new to a scene. It's Joe Davis. Joe Davis now fits in as the voice of Major League Baseball. Calling the All-Star game, calling the World Series. At first, people were like, "Oh, is he ready for this spot?" But you know what, he doesn't make the broadcast about him. And that's why it works now. I don't get that same thing from the new White Sox lead announcer. Understood. Right, like, it's been too much about him. And that's why I think it's a turn-off to many people. Joe Davis is great now because it's not about him. He's just calling the game. The Cubs, by the way, are ninth in this list. That's pretty good. The Cubs have a good broadcast team. That's good. Joe Shambi? It's nice. JD? It's a properly placed, I would say. I like it. I think it's good. It's fine. I like it. What was the shot or no shot? Do they deserve to be last? You say it's a shot. I say it's a shot. You're saying no shot. It's not a no shot. But I watch enough baseball to know that that's not the worst with the baseball. The A's are pretty bad. It's pretty bad. It's a bad booth. Yeah. Nothing against Dallas Brayden. But it's a bad booth. You can listen to every game on the ESPN Chicago app if you want to hear the radio crew. I agree. Conor McKnight has the pregame show. Line in DJ, have the call of the game. Tune in. You know. Put also in the producer text chat that Jonathan Hood said four minutes ago, I consume White Sox baseball by listening to lead in DJ. I'm re-emphasizing it. He missed it. Right over there. No, I heard it. But people could be listening in their car and then they also can listen on the app when they're watching the game on TV. Yeah. Double down. I heard it. Here's Chris Black. Chris. Sharon knows shot. Jack McGrath. There you go. Well, they're very good. Yep. Very good. Well, around the NFL is right around the corner. Don't forget it's a waddle. We'll hear from Tom Waddle at 835. Captain Jay Hood weekday morning 7 to 10. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN 1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back on ESPN Chicago Chicago's home for sports. It both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front. But there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts to come. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's an answer you're looking for all these things here. It is time to go around the NFL right here on the cap and Jay Hood morning show on a ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with Chris Blackin for cap. I am Jay Hood. We're with you till 10 o'clock. Greenberg comes in at 10, followed by Carmony Yerko at 12, Waddalom Sylvie, 230 to 630 into Abdullah on the Blackin Abdullah Show. Around the NFL, here's Jack McGrath. All right. Trade rumors. Still all around. Brandon Iuch officially requests a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. I find this very interesting because the San Francisco 49ers cap is not good for 2025. They still have a lot of room this year, but next year, they're ranked third to last in the NFL in terms of open cap space. Do you think Brandon Iuch is traded this off season? Man. I'm San Francisco. I do all I can for him to stay. I feel like I'm on the cusp of something special here. You could be part of that, right? Yeah. Don't do anything if you're the 49ers. What is he going to just hold out the entire season? He's not going to do that. He says he doesn't want to play for the team. He wants a trade. They don't have to do anything, though. I waited out at some point. He's going to want to play. You don't have to do anything as a team. Yeah. And then what's the equal value for a brand and I, the kind of production that he brings? I mean, listen, I know that the offense at times can look color by the numbers, Chris, in which it's like the system is the system, but Brock Purdy still needs a game changer and Iuch is that guy. Yeah. Chris, I'd also say we just ran through the list of top 10 wide receivers about 20 minutes ago and he's on that list. Top 10 guys and I think what kind of adds to the, what we're looking for here in Chicago is that Killa Williams is going to have multiple threats from a wide receiver position moving forward and that's what Purdy has with the 49ers. Multiple ways to get you with the receivers, not only the wide receivers, but also Kittle as a tight end and the running back in McCaffrey. So I think it all kind of mixes together unless they can get some pieces for the future as far as draft capital, I would wait. I wouldn't do anything if I were the 49ers. I would agree with that. Paul's bluff. Of course, Evan Cohen would say all you need is George Kittle, you don't need a receiver so it's fine. And a running back. The best pass catcher in the league, one of the top five is Christian McCaffrey according to Evan Cohen from a sportsman like so it's good enough. Something else to watch out for though with this is Brock Purdy's contract, he doesn't have that fifth year option. So after 2025, they are also potentially going to have to pay Brock Purdy, then you could have a huge wide receiver one salary on the books as well as a starting quarterback salary on the books. Tom Brock Purdy, I'm like, all right, cool, 40 million and I know that would blow people's hair back like, what do you mean 40 million? Well, that's going right. Give me my money. You better make sure that he's the guy. You're not a system quarterback then. You're all a system quarterback. But this could be, you know, it's how Kirk Cousins has now in multiple spots been a very good quarterback. But teams have not wanted to commit to him long term and that's why he's bounced around now from Washington to Minnesota to now Atlanta. So I like, make sure that Brock Purdy is worthy of getting that payday. Jaymore. All Brock Purdy got to do is say Daniel Jones. Yeah. They're going to pay up. They have to. I'm with you. Are you sure he's that guy? I mean, but I mean, even if you're not sure. Here's where we are in sports now in the NFL, even if you're not sure you're just paying on potential like right now in ESPN Milwaukee, their topic they're talking about this morning with Jen, Gabe and Chewy, their morning show. It's talking about Jordan Love and how much he's going to get. They've had a chapter on this morning talking about how much will Jordan Love get here with his new contract. Like, how much is that 40 million? Is that 35? Is that 50 million? That's the question, Jack. I think it's closer to 50 than 35. Holy smokes. I grew a Jack. And again, and again, we saw him for one year, Jordan Love, one year. He wasn't embarrassing. He was solid, but this is the going rate where my home should hold up. That's why when you have a quarterback that you pay, you have to make sure he's in the top elite class because if he's not, you find yourselves in the situation that the Saints are in with Derek Carr. He's not that guy. And that's why Tennessee is moving off of Ryan Tannehill. They went with Will Levis. They don't need the guy who was just average. You can't pay for an average quarterback. And you better make, if you're a 49er fan, you better make sure that Brock Purdy is not just an average quarterback propped up by a great head coach and all of these shiny toys around him offensively. This will be a question about Tua as well, Chris. Tua, and then Dak. And Dak's the other name and Tua, you're right with Tua. The thing about Tua is I like, I like Tua. He just seems fragile, Brett, like the injury concern is there, concussions in the past. Can he stay healthy? Again, shiny toys around him, great wide receivers. It's the all of dollar line though, the classic of dollar line is, if you're going to move on from your quarterback, who do you have to replace that production? Because your backup is a fall off, it's what Adam says all the time. Well, and that's where the Cowboys are walking themselves into this weird situation, like you have to pay Dak Prescott, he's worth it. He was playing an MVP season last year, he didn't win it, but he was in that conversation. That's how good Dak Prescott was. You got to pay him. What do you do? What are the Cowboys going to do? Like, there's not big time free agent quarterbacks anymore. That doesn't happen. So, I mean, that's all part of it. Jack, can you squeeze in one more because it's a waddle Wednesday? I can. I think the Chiefs are toying with us a little bit, at least Patrick Mahomes, because I'll just read the headline. Chiefs, comma, Patrick Mahomes, I'm title, but want more "fun" along the way. Winning the championship wasn't fun enough. He says not seeing weak to weak improvements every single week wasn't as fun as it has been in years past, so he wants more fun when winning the title this year. Apparently, having Taylor Swift in the building wasn't fun enough. It's about striving for more. Once you've had a taste, you want more. And when he says more fun, he doesn't want to go through the growing pains and the frustration of all these guys dropping passes and all of the histrionics and all that stuff that went along with the Chiefs winning the championship. I think that that's what he means. Having fun meaning being able to execute, whereas it seems like it was a strain on them last year. I will always... You noticed that? Yeah. It started with the Lions game last year to start the season. It seems like it was the hardest championship that they had to win. I will always lean towards Michael Jordan in the last dance. It's not supposed to be fun. Winning at the highest level is not fun. The result is fun, and the way Jordan puts it in the last dance, you don't want to win like tough. This is how it happens. Like, I would be careful wishing for more fun and sacrificing something that is winning. Yeah. Just keep winning. That's all that matters. Tommy, that makes sense, right? You're just trying to win. It's one thing to win, but there's always more to achieve. If you got to a certain level, a championship level, you're like, "Okay, what's next was to win. Now win with having more fun or doing it differently." Look, I think they're intertwined. I think, I mean, if you're winning and not having fun, well, I don't know what to tell you to get out of the business, you know? I mean, like, I don't know, when you've won three Super Bowls and you're not 30 and you're off coming off back-to-back wins, like, you've run out of things to say to people, so I wouldn't overly dissect anything he's saying right now. I think they're just, this is that period of time you guys know at Chris and Jonathan and everybody. We are so damn bored, right? We'll say anything to try to spark a conversation. We're crying out loud, they're on ESPN, they've got a top 100 list of most accomplished people since 2000, like, we need football to start. Thank God it's starting, but yeah, I think that, I think they're having plenty of fun in Kansas City. I want to have no fun, but have a record like theirs here in Chicago over the next five years. Let's do that. Let's do that. Hey, what happened? Are you talking about looking for football start? Football's already started, Tom. Well, come on. SEC meeting day. Football. SEC meeting day. My name's Ben McDonald. I'm from the Pickett Youn Suntan Times Tribune and I want to talk to you about your ball club. You're a good ball coach, Coach. Coach, I really like what you're able to do. Tell me if you're going to win the National Championship. Thank you very much. God bless you. So he got the SEC Media Days. It's already, that's usually the question at SEC Media Day. Yeah. No question at all. Just to God bless you and your coach. Yeah. Hey coach. Always wrapped up with a God bless you and a family. God bless you and your family. Battle Wednesday continues on the Cap and Jhood Morning Show. Cap and Jhood are back and you know this man. Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Tom Waddle. Tom Waddle. Former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears. Guys, amazing. 1989 all Madden team and afternoon co-host on ESPN Chicago. I think he's going to start at least eight games in the National Football League next year for a team that's going to give him a chance. That's Waddle Wednesday with Tom Waddle. Listen, I got a pedicure in an hour, but I get back here and the wheels better be spinning all right on Cap and Jhood on ESPN Chicago. It's a Waddle Wednesday on the Cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and they're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app and we go to the Hotline. The car wrecks tired out of Hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Don't worry about the car wrecks. Good morning, Tommy, how are you? We didn't know what I wasn't as good because while I was waiting during the break, I was paying bills. I hate paying bills. I hate it. So you're going like envelope by envelope and just open it up, writing on the top of it how much is owed? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like I know, you know, all the young smart people are paying everything online. Yeah. I still, there's a few bills that I still, I put in the mail, put a stamp on it. Put a return address. You guys have such a trust in the system. Oh, time out, Chris. Wait a second. I spent an hour yesterday with my daughter trying to rectify a situation where somebody stole her identity and opened up a capital one credit card account with a $10,000 credit limit. So don't you tell me, mister, that I should be doing things electronically because they can get you that way too, sir. Yeah. Of course. They can get you anyway. I agree with that. It's trusting that you place a physical piece of paper in a little box and another human walks up, picks up that piece of paper and then takes it to a new destination and it gets to that destination, which is a company, a company that is going to open it up and then cash that, that check for the bill. Yeah. Damn right. That, that is impressive as a younger guy. It's impressive that the, the, the logistics of how that works, the mail system is something I guarantee you, Jack McGrath also agrees with me. I'm just assuming he thinks mail is also interesting as well. I would just say this. Now, again, the way you put it and Tommy would agree with me with this. The way you put it is put it in a little box, a little box, let me describe a mailbox. I'll describe it right now. I'm a radio guy. I'll describe it right now. You know what it is? It's the American Eagle on there. Amen, brother. Let me tell you something. America. Johnny Johnny. You know what I like. America. And here's what you need to understand, Chris Black, you whippersnapper, you need to understand that that is an American flag on there. There is an eagle and that says an American is apple pie. So you, you over there, the communist saying that you can't, that you can't put your mail in the box. It's not just a box. A little box. It's not a little box. With a little flag. Yeah. You pour black over there. Yeah. You're communist. You put the little flag up. When I, Chris, that's what I was going to say. When I put the flag up, I stride back to the house and pride. I accomplished something with my day. Yeah. This guy here, man. How could he say that? Like on that end, I get it. On the other end, I don't. Who is, who is collecting this at the other end and actually taking that money and putting it in the right spot? By the way, Chris, I'm not, I'm not sure who my new, because I moved. My new male guy is, but my old male collector was a friendly guy. He would give my, my, my dog a treat. We'd exchange pleasantries. We'd have a conversation. We'd talk bears football. Oh, I get it. We had a relationship. I get it. I know, I know the UPS guy. My name, right? Yes. Yes. He, when he's, when there's white Sox games on at night, I'm walking the dog. He stops the truck. He goes, why aren't you guys on? I go. Oh, he knows. Oh, yeah. He knows. He knows. That's my guy. I, the, the, the UPS. I'm like the Sox are on and the Amazon guy, both pay rent because they're at my house more frequently than I am. They don't come into the house. They're usually dropping things off and turning around and going back to the car, but sure. It's like 10,000 times a day. It's amazing. And at least if nothing else, you know that your doorbell works because it rings a million times. It is the worst, but you know, but, but you make a great point on when you talk about knowing the people that, that serve you like, like the male, like the male man. When I was a kid, we knew our male man. You know why? Because he'd be drenched in sweat and, and my old man would say, Hey, here's no Milwaukee. You've had a long day. That's awesome. You know what, Hannah, my old male walk, even though he's still on the route, you would just put it in this is satchel and say, thank you. Thank you, Bob. You know what? I would have done Jonathan. If I knew that, I would have impersonated a male delivery person just to get free beer. Nice cold, old Milwaukee. Yeah. It's funny. Real quick, my wife tells this funny story right on this, you know, on this topic when she grew up in Boston and, and she was in her neighborhood, John was their male guy. Okay, John was the male man that delivered the mail to their house when where they lived for the entirety of her youth to the point where John parks his, his, his mail card, gets out and starts shaking a letter and say, somebody got into Boston college. Not only was he delivering the mail, he was reading the man. Oh, yeah. No, wait a minute. You're not part of the family. Well, I guess he is like part of the family, isn't it? It's true story. Somebody got into Boston College. That's great. On a second, Tommy, is he holding it up by candlelight? Can he see through the mail when it says there, right? The first couple of lines of the letter, you know, it's a great question, John. I don't think he opened it, but I think he probably, cause he knew that she was waiting for, you know, a result from her application. And because they had conversations every single day with John that I'm sure he just kind of held it up and looked through the light and see if he could. That's great. I love that. I think that's the best, you know? But that's when you knew people though, Chris, because now it's just, you know, it's a scatter shot. It's just so many different people that you don't get a chance to know the one mail guy that would be there for years. Yeah. Same route. Same time. You're a guy. Yeah. I love that. That goes into the conversation, Jonathan, like the people in my old neighborhood that, you know, that would come and get the recycling and the garbage, I would have conversations with them because I knew when they were driving by, I gave them, you know, Christmas tips every year because we had a relationship. So Chris, I think you need to get on board with some of the old school folks that Jonathan and I still subscribe to. Right. No, I'm with you. I think supporting those who are usually coming by your house or helping you out with things, I think it's great. I think that's outstanding. But at the same time, we still anti-stamp. I think that's a problem. Yeah, I agree. You're anti-stamp. Finding a stamp and finding where you can purchase a stamp is a pain in the butt. Absolutely. Where do you buy? Where do you buy a stamp? I go to the post office and I exchange pleasantries with the people working at the post office. That's a different conversation in the city. It waves everybody. The city of Chicago is a little different in the neighborhood. No, I know. You're very friendly. I agree. Hi, Mr. Tommy. How are you, Mr. Tommy? Oh, God. He's adult. Oh, God. Mr. Tommy. Hey, Mr. Tommy. Hey, Mr. Tommy. No, I'm just a resident in the community. That's all I am. Does it make me not a complete young guy that I pay the bills online? But I don't have, but I don't have the auto pay set. I like sitting down and going through each one and then confirming the payment. Yeah. That's a little old school in there. Listen, you got a little old school in you. Right. That'll count. What's the difference between UPS and U.S. mail? For you, Chris. Listen, there's no difference. I'm never sending something through. One is United Personal Service. The other is the United States Postal Service. Chris. They're different companies. Yeah. No, no. I think Jonathan's asking, like, why will I be friendly to one and then not the other? Is that what you're pointing to? Is that right? Is that right, Jay Moore? What's the difference? Hey, what's the difference? Are you still dealing with the human aspect? Yeah. Taking the UPS guy, anything to take, and hope that it appears in that new location. Other than a smile and a good firm handshake, how do you do it today? He's only bringing to us. Oh, looking Brown do for you. Right. [LAUGHTER] I know, Jonathan, you got a smart comment. No! No, not at all. All I'm going to do is get ready for the next segment, though, while the one's there. [LAUGHTER] Isn't there? Well, give us that line. Yeah. I think we all know what Brown can do for you. Yeah, brother. Depending on how spicy the tacos are on the Captain Jay Hood boarding show. [MUSIC] Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch at ESPN 1000 Chicago. Captain Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's a while on Wednesday on the Captain Jay Hood boarding show on ESPN 1000, and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app Tom Waddles with us, and Chris Black is in for cap. You know what? I want to talk to you two about this bare stadium deal, because Tommy, this is in the Tribune today, piece entitled, scroll up, scroll up, governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Bears boss met privately for the first time amid stadium push. So Chris, you know, for someone that has season tickets for a long time that's been in your family, it's something we haven't talked about how you feel because as Tommy and Cap and all of us have talked about, we feel like Arlington Heights is inevitable, like the Bears are moving. However, this is going to happen. They're going to move. But what do you, how does this make you feel as a Bears fan? Long time Bears fan sold your field in a possible move for the Bears. I want a new stadium. So if that's the place, I'm all for it. I think in an ideal world, and I know, Waddles, you've talked about this, if they had the land on the lakefront and enough space to kind of have everything that they want and the infrastructure was there for it, yeah, go for it. Keep it in downtown Chicago, but I think logistically, it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. So I'm, I'm totally cool with it going to Arlington Heights. They already own the property. Let's build a beautiful world class stadium there. Does your dad feel the same way? Yeah, I think well, it's closer to Libertyville. So I think so. Yeah. Like I, for those who travel from the northern suburbs or the far southern suburbs to get to soldier field on a game day, it's not a three or four hour commitment. It's a eight hour commitment. Driving downtown, the amount of traffic getting out of there, it's not fun. The game itself is fun, but the travel and all the logistics that add to it, I think you would much rather be in Arlington Heights. Listen, I think you nailed exactly how I feel to Chris. If you had the space, if you could do everything on the lakefront that you can do in Arlington Heights, I'm on board. Like if you can provide me a blueprint and, you know, illustrations of how paradise would look on the lakefront versus out in Arlington Heights, I'm all in. I just don't know how you can do it. And, and, and Jonathan, I still believe that they're not ready to say no. And I still believe the state's not ready to say yes. And where does that leave us? I think the, you know, Peggy and I, Peggy cut wind of that article, I think late in our show yesterday, and I think at the end of it, basically, the summary was, JP Pritzker said there's been no change in how he views this. Yeah. And I just don't know how you finance it. I don't know how you get past all of the, the obstruction that would exist anyway from people that don't want the lake, the lakefront to be disturbed any more than it's already disturbed. And I don't know, you know, who's going to be willing to finance this? And I've said, and I'll stay with it, if the bears want to come up with the full cost of this project, then I think that it'll get thumbs up from state legislators unless they do that. I don't know how this project actually gets started and finished. And we all know, you know, Kevin has talked about, Kevin Warren has talked about, time is of the essence here, because every year you put it off, it's another $150 million. So I don't know. Make sense, right? Yeah. And as what old pointed to, it's got to, they have to make a decision sooner than later. You can't keep waiting out the state and the city of Chicago to hope that you put it on the lakefront when the price continuously goes up. By the way, guys, also, I would add this, you know, he's put together a pretty sizable, you know, workforce for this. And I know in comparison, it's just peanuts when you compare the cost of all of what they're doing, their plans to the actual project. But there's been some capital investments in trying to get this to happen on the lakefront. At what point does a financially conscious team ownership group, I'm just throwing this out there, say, hey, enough, we've already spent, what was it, almost $200 million on the land in Arlington Heights, we've put together this, you know, this work group over here that has elevated our costs. And there's a significant amount of costs putting into the planning of this project. At what point does the family say, you know, if this isn't going to work, let's stop funding something that we keep banging our head against the wall. We're not making any progress. Yeah. So by the way, we have our five burning questions. One of the questions, Chris, that you asked me was about the running back position. And I'm going to ask, tell me about that too. So what, could you give us the question again about the running backs? Well, the question was, who starts a running back, but more so, what I'm interested in Waddle is who will have the more, the most carries this season? I think you bring DeAndre Swift in and he has more, most catches and most carries. I think you look at this, this offense now and look, you're going to keep Roshan Johnson. He's a draft pick, right? I think Khalil Herbert as functional and as, you know, solid as he's been. I think Khalil Herbert is a guy that, that, you know, is probably one of these guys that Ryan Polls is talking about, hey, it's going to be hard to make this team because we've got more talent, you know, Homer's a guy that plays a lot of special teams. If he's healthy, does he get the edge of her Khalil Herbert because he's more, you know, he's more useful in, in, in teams activity? I don't know. That's one of those, but I think that's guys one of those positions where when Ryan Polls said, hey, we're going to have a, we're going to have some stiff competition here and this is going to be a hard team to make and a hard roster to make. I think that position is probably one of them where, you know, a solid football player is going to be, you know, on the outside looking in. Yeah. And I like the idea that there could be some thunder and lightning in the, in, with Swift and Johnson because, and, and this bears roster, Tommy, is a little bit of Noah's Ark has got two of everything. Yeah. Yeah. You have a Dunes a, but yet you have a Keenan Allen. You have in the secondary young players like Stevenson and Johnson, but you have a Bayard. So I like the idea of the mix in the matching of young up and coming, I hope stars for the bears along with seasoned grizzled veterans on the roster too. That mix is good for me. I tied in. I got Gerald every day. I got cold comment. Yeah. Go for it. Don't forget guys too. You know, and then this, this threshold isn't very impressive these days because of how the games played. DeAndre Swift was a thousand yard roster last year. Okay. So they brought in a guy that, that average 4.6 yards per carry and also is somebody that is a difference maker in the, in the passing game. So in my world, DeAndre Swift was brought here. Yes, I like the thunder and lightning and you can bring in Roshan Johnson, but he in my world is getting them the vast majority of the snaps because he's the most competent guy in the passing game and the running game. Don't forget to get yourself a nice book of stamps before you come in today. I got a roll. I bought a roll the other day. It cost me like $85. They're expensive. Yeah. It ain't cheap. This will last me a while. Like I'm not paying all my bills like this, but like this will probably last me maybe to, you know, the fifth week of the football season. I just met at my amex bill. I thought you were going to say a year. Nah. You keep those around, especially if they're great classic stamps, you know, yeah, you know, and my kids drop things on my desk to hey, dad, can you mail this for him, you know, if you were the post office, yes, slip a $400 check in there. If you get a chance to, and unfortunately times get come up with his own envelope for that. Yeah. I got that. I just bought envelopes. I got the security envelope. Ah, the good song. But you know what? This is going to sound weird. I don't let them to close them. I use tape. Really? Yeah. You think you're going to get sick? Ah, I don't like the taste. Well, you do a beer chaser after that. You lick the envelope and then you take that little beer, take it right out. There you go. You know, in my world, it'd be more likely that I'd drink the beer before you'd forget about the envelope. Hey, before I forget something else, you know whose birthday it is today? And I want to take this opportunity on your show, if I can, to wish Jeff Joniak a happy birthday. Right. Right. That's football season. Happy birthday. The voice of the bears. It's his birthday. That's awesome. Happy birthday. Happy birthday, Jeff Joniak and Vernal Unquist. Oh, Vern. Vern.
