live from State Street in the heart of Chicago you are listening to the new home of the Chicago Bears ESPN Chicago and this is Captain Taehud WMVP WTBC HD2 Chicago a good karma brands radio station just after 9 hope your days off to a great start I am here with my friend Adam Abdallah we have White Sox baseball tonight so he and Chris Black do not have their show this evening so Abdallah got the call hoodies off today come on in a work-the-morning show and now you'll have your day free yes to nap for nap to nap yeah oh yeah I'm definitely I'm definitely getting a nap and definitely really I gotta go do some stuff afterwards run some errands and whatnot but like yeah yeah I'm definitely gonna get a nap I like napping I just never get to do it I'm done I'm definitely gonna do that that's definitely on the schedule like a Sunday afternoon or Saturday afternoon nap is awesome it's not gonna be long like I'm not getting back into bed and taking a two-year nap on a couch or on the bed couch I'm not getting the bed again I'm out of bed now yeah I'll like I'll like there'll be something on TV or whatever I'll turn it on and I'll like I'll probably not off like 20 minutes and then wake back up yeah you know it's great in the afternoons then not off to lawn order yeah lawn order is good CSI something like them the lawn order lawn order is great yeah I'll find a bad movie on TV or something it'll be up three one two three three two three seven seven six so when all is said and done wow who's number two after MJ and where will Caleb rank 20 years from now well this started oh yesterday you posted the question if Michael Jordan is the best athlete to play in Chicago and it has to like you can say that there were better like like some of the lists like Candice Parker was only here for two years I know she won a championship but Kevin Griffey was here for a year yeah he didn't star here exactly like you would say Bo Jackson like okay no you gotta have spent some time here correct Michael Jordan is obviously number one it's not close Walter Payton is obviously number two even though in the seven o'clock hour people can go check the tape check out the podcast ESPN Chicago app you wanted to put Patrick Kane maybe number two you were besmirching the good name of Walter Payton just saying the streets were talking you don't like Walter Payton I love Walter Payton I love Jared Walter Payton's number two as well easily number two for me yeah the only thing I asked was Patrick Kane will go down is the greatest American born hockey player ever he won three Stanley Cups and MVP a scoring title he's been an Olympian it's still like the fourth or fifth most popular sport though that doesn't matter it does matter it does matter because Jordan himself is a brand Walter Payton was doing national commercials he was he was hosting SNL he was everywhere that's part of it too popularity has to be a part of it because when you talk about Caleb Williams he already comes in as this highly touted recruit as the number one guy for the last four five years as a guy who won a Heisman Trophy two years ago as a guy who put USC on his back in multiple games even though they ended up losing those games was throwing for over 400 yards four five touchdowns every single time because he had to do that at one of the best programs in college football two of the best he was in Oklahoma first and then he was at USC drafted number one overall without even a question of who was going to be taken number one overall no discussion he comes to the bears they turn the ball ball down exactly they come he comes to the bears who are a international brand who have who are on primetime games even after a three win season they're on Sunday night football Monday football Thursday all that stuff there's still a nat and international brand so if Caleb does what we hope he does and does become our franchise quarterback here in Chicago then I definitely think he can get to number two if he wins let's say he wins rookie of the year in his first year they make the playoffs there's the favor to win rookie of the year and they maybe they lose in the first round maybe they lose in the wildcard round and that's fine you get there right that's progress then next year they become the Lions right next year you have hopes of getting to the NFC Championship game possibly a Super Bowl if he wins one Super Bowl here is an MVP contention has one rookie of the year I think for sure he can get to number two but it also has to do with what he does he's a quarterback for the bears that's different to me that puts you ahead even puts you ahead of Patrick Kane because it's hockey I'm not trying to besmirch hockey but we all know that footballs more popular than hockey yeah I'm not saying it is we all know that the bears are more popular than the Blackhawks the question isn't popularity the question is but it's part of it player it's part of it though it's part of the equation like if Patrick Kane was you know doing national ad campaigns but no hockey players really doing that no hockey players out here doing national commercials they're doing local car dealerships Wow they are are they not he did some national stuff okay what remember the one ad they had him on TV where he was stick handling through all the pucks there was like oh my gosh Justin Fields is doing national commercials he's a backup he's doing national commercials for who Reebok oh god I'm gonna brand 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 Matt in Elburn's next hey Matt what's up cookie hey how are we doing fellas what's up how are you nothing so I'm just wondering you know if we're if we're talking about you know playing ability and just all beloved by Chicago you know Kane's obviously up there he's getting a standing up when he goes back to the Red Wings right yes we're gonna put in Derek Rose to this conversation youngest MVP ever could have been one of the best age I was ever had barring injuries not in the top 10 that we kind of wiped that through but when that man comes home anytime he comes home he's getting a standing o he's getting 10 goes in New York you know he's beloved somewhat everywhere you know I think that's got to be somewhere in top five Derek Rose no shot I agree with cat maybe no shot no shot in top five he's taught he's in my top 10 Matt he's my top 15 top 15 for you guys I say top 10 for me he's probably no no if it was my age playing in you know I'm 31 obviously I've seen Derek Rose play but you know even that poor documentary if you watch it on Chicago man you're probably going up in tears somewhere here it's about that documentary just what he meant to take your Chicago yeah but how do you put him at a Scotty Pippen you're putting him ahead of Scotty Pippen I've come ahead of Pippen because Pippen when he lost my respect is when he sat that game and had Tony Pukos come in and nailed that game okay he's still one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time he's not ahead of Patrick Kane he's not ahead of Bobby Hall he's not ahead of Dick Butkus he's not ahead of Ernie Banks he's not ahead of Frank Thomas he's not ahead of Brian Erlacher and I can keep going yeah but that's you know that's playing ability for sure but if we're going to enter in the public eye you know what is it like that isn't the question Michael and a book and Claire when his son got married to his wife Chicago fans are kind of happy about the hat not gonna lie to you they never got married well they're about to their no they broke their game they're they're engaged they're done they split they're done right but the Chicago fans are happy about that it was kind of funny kind of throwing it back in Scotty's face that's why I don't put Scotty love Scotty great player Jordan time to couldn't done it without him but you know Scott he kind of ruined it was I think when he set out that one game and just put Jordan his book and trash them hey man have a great day Matt I appreciate it I agree with Matt in the sense that Scotty has done nothing to help himself that's true since the since the end of the Bulls run everything that he's done since the last dance everything he's done in to you know to hate on Michael ever since like all that stuff only hurts him and I think that that's part of it like what's your legacy in the city you know like Jordan doesn't do very much in Chicago you know was he even here this weekend he's got a he's got a Jordan team his car almost won they finished second yeah like I was his car like was he even here for this right I know he goes to some of the races right I don't even know if he was here for this race I don't think he was so I think that it's obviously Jordan number one Pippin his kind of I think Pippin would be number three if he didn't have this fall from grace in popularity I think a lot of people don't like him because of what happened during the last dance after the last dance how he seems he seems bitter about everything his book and all this crap his reputation as a bad being a bad tipper like all the stuff that's off the court no tip and no tip of heaven off the court has hurt him a lot I think in this discussion wouldn't disagree Danny and Schumberg what's up Danny hey guys what's up hey cap where did your wife get that all I need something like that from right back I will find out and I will you send me a DM and I will get the intel could you get him at like any Home Depot or anything like that I have art or depot or something yeah yeah I just wondered I saw it on the recap this weekend and I need these damn birds Amazon you can't name yours Otis though that's mine no I'll come out some different dude it's sweetness and it's not even close anything else is blasphemous I mean and then maybe big Frank new genix she'll notice the difference to you know what we're having even works in the bedroom Danny what I said it even works in the bedroom yeah he goes and she'll notice the difference to and who's the dude off loot he's like oh like he loves it yeah it's sweetness come on the nickname sweetness we're it this shouldn't even be close I get it I don't know why I'm dollar like the fourth dollar biggest sport I don't know why he doesn't like painting I don't know I don't say that go back we could just replay the seven o'clock hour I'll go home early I'm sure Danny would love it because you completely flipped from saying that came that can't should be number two we'll go to the we'll go to the behind the glass here Charlie Bevins Kevin Z back asked producing today's show did cap want to put cane number two ahead of Walter Payton yesterday there was a small in between between him saying that and him just asking the question I think he was doing more than just asking the question drive over station that's my job that's fine that's fine Kevin Z back who was pooping when we had this discussion earlier when I asked what I possibly know that's that's why I mean because when I asked this question I you were in disposed I asked it last hour I was disposed all right well you were disposing um did did kap or did cap not try to put Patrick came number two he he was making the case okay he was you're pushing hard for can I pushing hard driving conversation that's it that's what I do just saying I have cane three so do I he's up there but Payton's wanted it like there's no discussion one and two are in Sharpie etched in stone that's how it is unless Caleb goes out and does some stuff for a long time yeah yeah I think it's gonna take a while yes I think it's gonna be a minute like we're not gonna go after the unless they look if they win the Super Bowl this year like they're not going to but if they do oh it's close it's close he's definitely he might be number three he might he might some past Patrick came after that just after one Super Bowl if he wins it in his rookie year wow absolutely no absolutely uh three one two three three two three seven seven six what does he need to do to crack top three athletes in Chicago sports history multiple Super Bowls fifteen years with ten Pro Bowls what does he have to do three one two three three two three seven seven six with a dollar in for hoodie I'm cap you're a bad I want to thank both you guys man for the great season of bad information and I just want to say I appreciate you guys and I love this show Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago hard to believe that next week rookies will report to training camp shortly thereafter the veteran summer's over man nope I hope you enjoyed the end of summer with the July 4th weekend but we aren't fall mode now my friend more not we are in it is a fall mentality here it's football season football season starts a week from tomorrow is the rookies report you'll hear from Ryan Paul's and Matt Iberflus on July 19th as they meet the media had a training camp and then training camp starts that's it summer's over summer basketball kid okay that's cool I'm on games tomorrow and Wednesday I'm I'm getting ready for football season football season having fun coaching yeah how's that going we're one and all one and all yeah did you cover the spread in the first game we did okay good yeah where can I get this where can I get these ESPN back the captain Danny pulls with it with a K did you make them name themselves after you know Danny I think named it okay that'd be great Danny and the great Tony Pavek named it the captains now have you already started looking at some in-season moves are you gonna propose any trades are you gonna yeah I got to get Danny to be willing to go into the luxury tax okay first day are you alright if you hit the first apron yet are you at the second apron what are you doing we are at the second a ball that's gonna be tough then to go to the luxury with a bit of a middle of exception yeah yeah but we'll figure something some contracts yeah so we'll use the players we'll use the MLE and see if we can add up no we have a good team man we have a lot of fun I would love it for you to go to Danny and try to propose a trade we gotta get this kid off spreadsheets we gotta get this kid off the team we're gonna move him we need to build for the future got my eye on this post player from North Brook and we acquire him now now are you a are you a hands-on in-game coach or you kind of letting them feel out are you more of a Phil Jackson were you letting them feel not filled and not not calling a lot of time outs you're calling a time out right away they come out of halftime so you know looking a little slow little sluggish you're calling a timeout instantly aren't you it's not so much the timeout thing it is like I'm calling out every blitz we blitzed the when the bulk handler comes across half court yeah we sent two guys at the ball yeah and so I'll be you know blitz or scream or whatever it's just yeah what I did so I just like riding a bike do you wear a suit on the sideline that I do not work that'd be awesome I wore a chasing greatness hoodie you got to dust off those old what do you call it those old MVC sports suits come on those are all in stuff I have them like bagged up and like you got to dust those off come on I have a worn a suit class back to the sidelines my nephew's wedding and my son's wedding I have not and that was a tux I have not worn a suit I can't remember the last that's what I'm saying they're just collecting dust you got to use those things yeah no I'm not wearing a suit you know sweating through it no shot anyway so Caleb Williams we I asked the question over the weekend got a lot of response to it what does Caleb need to do over a 20 year period could he get to number two all time because he's not gonna be the greatest player in the history of sports like MJ right now number two is Walter Payton number three is Patrick Kane beyond that maybe Frank Thomas because it's one of the greatest right-hand hitters in the history of the sport but can Caleb get there in 20 years some people are tweeting at me he will make it 20 years he'll be a bust like okay whatever either you're a packer fan or you're just a negative person isn't I understand we're going a little overboard with this right now it's also July 8th so like slow your role here like I know that it's early it's before training camp starts I know that I know all that kind of stuff I also don't think it'll take it if he's what we hope he is it won't take 20 years for him to get there he's what all the experts who said generational who was the guy I talked to Rick Spielman the former GM and Vikings for like 18 years worth for the Bears and the Dolphins he said at this stage he goes I'm not telling you what they become at this stage he said he's ahead of Peyton Manning he's ahead of John Elway he said the only guy that was more advanced than him slightly was Andrew Luck now they developed in the Hall of Famers yeah I can't tell you he will yeah but he's he's got all the opportunity that's why I don't think it will take 20 years for us to have an answer on this I think we'll know in like half of that time well no not relatively soon but this is a team right now that is built to win yes right now yes the defense is set besides another edge rusher which they'll either add before training camp or during training camp or they may just wait until the draft next year to address that position other side of Montez sweat the offense is set you've got your offensive lineman you revamped your you've got one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL you've got a revamped running backroom you've got veteran tight ends in there now backing up Cole commit like this is a team that is built yeah Mark say these Lewis if this is a this is a team that aside from Caleb Williams being a rookie is set to make a playoff push now and if Caleb Williams can play slightly better than Justin Fields did they can they won seven games last year they could win nine games they could win ten games this year and if they do make the playoffs let's say he wins rookie of the year let's say in the next three years they get to a Super Bowl if they win one in the next five or something like that I'd be insane if he wins two in the next ten years he's number two two Super Bowls in the next ten years after after winning rookie of the year after being in the MVP conversation because if you're winning Super Bowls you're in the MVP conversation if he wins an MVP if he wins two Super Bowls if you wins rookie of the year he's easily number two he would have more Super Bowls than Walter Payton he have an MVP by what I'm laying out he'd have one rookie of the year he would be the guy he's a franchise ten years in a Bears uniform as a quarterback we've never seen that where did you Charlie where did you say PFF has these Chicago Bears old line ranked they're 11 okay I'm looking at a sharp football analysis sharp football is a really good site they have the Chicago Bears at 12 the 12th best offensive line the number one is the Lions the Falcons the Browns the Eagles the Chiefs are your top five so number 12 pretty good I yeah I have a few maybe careers we could possibly look at to compare so like St. Caleb Williams has Dan Marino's career okay he's Hall of Famer pro bowler all pro wins an MVP but never gets that Super Bowl do we do we put him ahead of Walter do we put or is he just third like does he need that Super Bowl or if he's consistently one of the guys and is remembered as one of the guys is that enough I think that he would have to win something I think he's got a win to go ahead of Walter Payton if you don't win a Super Bowl yeah you've got a win you'd have to be like Dan Marino to get ahead and I still don't know if that would do it a second didn't you just say he would have a Dan Marino like careers oh did you say Dan Marino I hear the Dan Marino he did say he would have a Dan Marino like he's gonna Dan Marino for yes he doesn't have a Super Bowl but there are some people think he's top five quarterback of all we're getting into like all-time stuff yeah well I mean look like when when Caleb Williams compared to Aaron Rodgers as one of the main comparisons like what if he does have Aaron Rodgers career he went to Super Bowl very early let's let's say the off field drama stuff doesn't really happen with with Caleb if he has Aaron Rodgers career where he is a Super Bowl champion he wins MVPs all that I think then he's he's probably closer to Jordan than he is to Walter Wow that's a good question well I think too you have to look at what the position is now like the running back like he was the Walter was the best running back in the NFL he was the one of the best players in the NFL at the time he held the rushing record for how many years right so Caleb has to do something like that yeah he has to that is legendary yes he has to do that that's not just be you know getting to NFC championship games that's not just you know setting the Bears passing record which is nothing right like if he throws for four thousand yards this year he set the record like it's not going to be anything that is huge like there are guys that are throwing for 5,000 yards already so correct doing setting Chicago Bear records that's nothing isn't enough right right he's got to be setting NFL records he's got to be and if you do that odds are you're probably gonna win a Super Bowl is somewhere in there you're going to seek out a Super Bowl three Super Bowls and he's not catching Michael no no of course not I'm not saying catching Michael I'm talking about catching Tom Brady if he was in this town wouldn't have caught Michael that's tough I don't know I mean Tom Brady would not have caught Michael Jordan no shot he has the championships that would match yeah it is football doesn't matter he was now you're bringing popularity yeah this goes to the brand thing this goes to the brand and I think that's probably the tiebreaker yeah like I'm not wearing I'm not wearing Brady's right now hold on let me check my under paints no I'm a guy yeah I'm not wearing break no but Brady's got his own that's right Brady hoody yeah I've got Brady boxer briefs we bought them we did a test a test where Chris and I did not the same pair we got two pair to Danny let you yeah he did yeah it was part of the bit yeah part of the show that's is a different time than camp the great Tom wattle is texting yeah the great Tom wattle hi Tom hi Tom how are you buddy the great Tom wattle said no chance the Bears are 11th or 12th offensive line raking them middle of the pack 16th would be generous could potentially be top 15 but there's nothing remotely close to top 10 about their line I think this is a projection I disagree with Tom yeah I kind of do I think this well it's also for telling to save it till 3 please yeah you got you got four hours to fill with Jesse walk or come on save this I will say that he's got he's not wrong but I don't think either of us are wrong either PFF or you and me or waddles wrong because it's a projection correct what they're going to be this year correct they believe that Caleb Williams will make the offensive line better because he's going to get rid of the ball faster and darno right will advance his car right won't have a busted chicken yes Kevin Jenkins will stay healthy um Nate Davis will play the full season you know you're gonna have an upgrade at the center position so it's a projection based off that now they're probably not going to be the best rushing team in the NFL again because a lot of that was Justin Fields so you but you could be a better passing team because of Caleb Williams so I think they're gonna lose some of the rushing because they were the number one rushing offensive line last year but not passing so you're gonna lose some and gain some so I think that this is gonna it's just a projection I could see them when no one's putting them top 10 but saying they're between 11 and 16 17 I think that's fair yeah I think it is let's quickly get these last couple in Sean and South Shore hey Sean what's up man what's up gentlemen how are you doing this morning how are you doing pretty good and joining the conversation so definitely Jordan one as you said Hayden - in terms of three I mean Patrick Kane spot-on he's got the resume you know rookie of the year MVP champion D Rose has to be considered in the top 10 no cap just not just his prime just don't just if you're if we're basing it somewhat on popularity we're not basing it on popularity best best players that's it that's player okay all right that's fair that's fair all right now to answer the Kaleb Williams question what would it take for interview number two Hall of Fame career that's what Walter Payton had he was rightly recognized as one of the best running bats in the lead one of the best players in the league for many years so if he has a Hall of Fame career like that and delivers a championship then you know you definitely have to consider that because you know if he if he has a Hall of Fame career as a quarterback it's tougher for quarterbacks to get into the Hall of Fame there aren't many as you mentioned Dan Marino Dan Phelps they don't have championships Fran Tarkington so you have to be among that level of elite in order to be considered if you don't get a championship if he gets a championship then I think that just based on the level of popularity of a quarterback the NFL now and back then you probably would have to throw me the number two but he has to accomplish a lot to surpass Payton at number two appreciate the call man have a great rest of your day and real fast Ryan and Gurney hey Ryan hey guys yeah you are probably a great point about peeping many in a minute ago that made me think you know what I don't want to hear is like why isn't Caleb doing more like how come you only won one or put these stats and didn't want to play off and my old time great is I got Jordan number one and Tom Brady number two I mean that's fair enough yeah absolutely I know would put Muhammad Ali there I understand his point about saying well we hope Caleb did this and hope Caleb did that I mean if if we're going off of Manning you know Manning did lead the league in receptions is his rookie here so it's kind of hope he went to and 14 it yeah let's hope he doesn't throw you let's hope that's not the case here by the way last on this Tommy Waddle pro football network good follow on Twitter and on their website number 10 offensive line Chicago yeah that's why I said anybody between 10 and like 15 top you know that area I'm not putting him in the top 10 I'm not putting him in the 20s so that's fair right around there we'll see we'll see people gotta stay healthy but you have depth to back it up now a little bit more depth to back it up now we'll see all right we have a fan in the studio by the name of Adam Abdullah hello he is a big soccer fan Danny just drove off the road if he's football we're not gonna talk football Danny relax that kind of football we want to discuss something though my son Garrett gave me this question he said hey when you go back on the era Monday ask this question that question is really interesting if it would come to us sports I'll ask Adam and you that question next and Jay Hood are back glad to hear both of you guys back happy New Year to both of you Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago rolling on cap and Jay Hood weekday morning seven to ten of dollar in for hood today hello hoodies back tomorrow so there is that online is listing the five next biggest free agents who have not signed in the NFL mmm-hmm they're still out there mm-hmm okay Justin Simmons okay favorite to sign him the Giants at 4 to 1 all right Michael Thomas favorite to sign the receiver Dallas at 3 to 1 Stefan Gilmore the favorite to sign them Jacksonville at 4 to 1 okay Chicago Bears 6 to 1 okay Zavian Howard next team the favorite the Giants at 4 to 1 and finally David Bakhtiari the left tackle from the Packers the favorite to sign him Chicago Bears I don't need that why cuz you're it's it's a very big gamble he can't stay healthy what are you gambling a little bit of money how much is he gonna want I wouldn't think a ton if it's just a one-year deal like there's no bad one-year deal agreed there are very bad one-year deal he's played 13 games of the past three seasons I was gonna thank you right but I guess he had him a knee surgery that he said is it healthier than he's ever been yeah when you're 33 or always in top four in the NFL my knee's awesome at 39 so I can't imagine I've had surgeries yeah that feels definitely more of a need I would I mean they didn't list the date where's the unique and got way where's where like where where's the edge rusher where's the guy they haven't listed one for in got way okay I'm sure that this list I don't need offensive all polls is working I would say I'm not saying I don't need everybody needs offensive line help you can ever have too much offensive line help I understand that there are bigger needs on this team then David Bakhtiari and I'm sure he's a great teammate I'm sure he's awesome he's had how many knee surgeries three I don't know three knee surgeries I know a lot 13 games in the last three years I'm good on Bakhtiari I'm good cuz who's gonna cost you more one year of Bakhtiari of one year of in Gakwe probably Bakhtiari no in gakwe got one year 10 million last year 10 and a half and he's not gonna get anywhere close to that I'd give him five four and a half to five I'll bet you to get him for less that'd be great I'm saying I would I would accept him for five so what if you could get him and Bakhtiari that's fine I'm just not like I'm not if Bakhtiari is willing to come in and compete for a job or be a backup and that's just where he is in his career than fine but I don't know if he wants to wait and go and start somewhere I don't know man three 13 games in three years I don't know I feel like you've got a pretty decent you got the 10th ranked offensive line eleven take that waddle line there you go so I have a question for you yes my son Garrett says to me hey why why don't they bring relegation to US sports because for people that don't follow European soccer like you do or like my son does and if you are dead last in the Premier League you get relegated down to the next level it's actually the bottom four bottom four four three three three three three three I'll get relegated for some reason I thought it was for don't they it's for the movie yeah okay three and then they bring teams that are successful at the lower level they come up yes they do so that means that you have to spend money and always be trying to be competitive or you lose like here if you said well the White Sox are getting relegated to triple A yeah they lose their major league TV money yes they lose a whole bunch of ability to market a major league team yes so would you like to see relegation in US sports because the Black Hawks would be getting relegated the White Sox would be getting relegated yes I don't think the Cubs are going to finish with the worst record but the point is they're in last place yes the Bulls could be getting relegated well here's okay so there's you you could tell him the easy answer is money the easy answer is money it would never fly here our system isn't set up for that there's too much money tied to these teams and tied into TV contract that the owners would never go for it right you have to essentially blow up an entire sport not just at the pro level this would have to go down to the minor leagues this would have to go in all forms of sport I also this would only work to me in baseball I don't think you have it there's not enough talented though the talent would be too watered down to do it in the NFL because to do it properly correct you have to add at least six to ten baseball teams you'd have to expand baseball to six to ten teams because there's 20 teams in the Premier League and then you've got 20 teams below that you need 40 so they have 40 teams in the champion they have 20 leagues 20 teams in the championship the English championship is what they call it which is the level below the Premier League so they have 40 teams right so you have to essentially come up with more baseball teams which you could do you could expand and all that kind of stuff but also you would have to these owners would have to get rid of their minor league affiliates you have teams that own minor league affiliates you wouldn't be able to own two teams like you can't have because then they just use it as a feeder system all that kind of stuff so you can't do that right it would be awesome in baseball I feel like it would really work in baseball it also wouldn't work in basketball because again the talent level would be too watered down you'd have to add too many teams all that kind of stuff you basically you'd have to create like a G League of some form which they already have obviously but it would be on a much bigger level also the pro teams own the G League team so conflict of interest there as well um it could work in baseball but the owners would never go for it because of the money yeah you tell the Oakland A's the Chicago White Sox guess what yeah you're going down to AAA yeah oh god and then you'd have to introduce the player loan system where you're loaning players that you don't really use to other teams so they can get more experience and more playing time and that kind of thing and then you could bring them back or you could just give them their contract and they could buy players on all that kind of stuff I would say that if it happened that more than half of the owners of current baseball teams would sell instantly sell because they know that the revenue is not guaranteed anymore like Jerry Rizorff is guaranteed to make money every single year if this happens he won't so because of that he's going to sell the baseball team the Oakland A's would sell off any team that Miami Marlins the Marlins would sell off all of these teams would sell but they're not guaranteed to make a team like the Cubs from tanking exactly level that they did yeah and the NBA kind of tried to do this not the relegation thing but by giving the bottom three teams the same odds in the draft to get the number one pick they kind of did they try to do that by saying hey don't try to be the worst just try to be one of the three worst right like don't rest everyone the last week of the season because we want to see actual baseball or basketball and stuff like that so I would love it this is something Chris and I've talked about for over a decade how it would be great to do that for baseball because it would promote more competition and and like you said teams would have but it would also give you something to watch if the White Sox were trying to avoid relegation that would be something to watch right like the sometimes that sometimes the league the EPL is already decided on the final weekend but the relegation teams are not decided so everybody's watching those games to see who is gonna get relegated like the whoever's won the championship like one year man City won it weeks before it was over Chelsea's won it weeks before it was over so people are watching the games of the relegated teams to see who's fighting to get relegated or teams that are fighting to come up from relegation so those are the are the the games they get the ratings but no I mean it would be great but it's never gonna happen it would be insane yeah anyway three one two three three two three seven seven six the cap J-hood cut of the day more of your calls next and J-hood are put in the band back together the nerve center of a great rhythm and blues band on Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago all right time for the cap J-hood cut of the day brought to you by our great partners at Chicago cut steakhouse it's our own sound or side of the Chicago River and it's simply spectacular Kevin yes it's boring but it's a sport oh whatever it's not born okay then you're bored all right mascara crochet gonna pitch in another team's uniform in the all-star game that's a good question would he be here look you don't get a point for that that's a good one I don't get a point for that for saying your own good question no sorry I didn't do it for that reason I just popped out and get you all folks Wow he popped out cap J-hood Chicago cut steakhouse cut of the day gorgeous Monday I think it's a burger day go ahead the burger on the patio oh man that is awesome it's a great burger it is and it's on LaSalle on the north side of the Chicago River as per David Flem and Matt Moore tell what's up tell them what's up absolutely right let's get these calls in Dean downtown our guy Dino what you know I got keys got a fee when I chirp shout it chirp back shout out to Jay Moore and Adam Abdullah good morning everyone good morning what's I buddy as far as my number two sports behind Jordan I'd like to quickly give a shout out to David Terrell the great DP and Chris Duhan Abdullah those guys mod on they knew how to smoke before they smoked a dollar non-stop with those two Chris do I'm gonna dinner at my house I met him at an ATM but nice guys a bit of a bit of them both under achieving I don't want to take shot but that's what happens when you stay off the weed I called because I wanted to say these billionaire owners would never put themselves in the precarious position I'm talking about the stocker or the owners here they would never put themselves in a position of being relegated to a lesser league because of the money I think it might even go the other way around in the future they might adopt our system it surprises me not hasn't happened by now I think a large part of it is because the owners are afraid of those fans guys those soccer fans are lunatics I love you guys I miss you over the weekend take that take that our guy see I think it's uh it's more likely that they that we adopt the relegation in MLB because it's only a matter of time before and I wouldn't be surprised if like a team someone comes in that wants Boston even though the owners have to prove it that one of these private equity funds that have bought these saudi these the saudi private equity funds that have bought some of these soccer teams overseas come in and buy an American team because they know how successful and just money printing machines that they are so like watch for the NFL the next team that's up for sale that may be a private equity fund comes in but baseball would be the easiest because there's no I know there's luxury taxes and all that kind of stuff whatever but they don't care what's what's what's what's what's the second apron to a private equity fund with with nothing nothing exactly so they could come in buy a baseball team buy a basketball team spend whatever the hell they want to on players and essentially just do what they've done and be be be Joe Lakeab yeah exactly it wouldn't matter yeah for sure don't the higher end well when the higher end teams end up caught being valued more to like wouldn't there be a difference if if oh yeah because it just becomes scarcity if you're a higher end team you're gonna be even more value than but you could come in and buy the white socks like if a private equity fund came in and bought the white socks they're in a major market they could get a new stadium they'll pay for the whole thing because it won't matter to them and then you have a new stadium you have you just put money into a major market team and you could definitely do it you could absolutely do it when the white socks are sold whoever buys that team is gonna go hog wild okay to capture this try to capture the city and especially his own fan base don't you think yeah probably yeah it's gonna be like Justin Ispia yeah I mean I don't know baseball is different because like with the the TV deals aren't the same I know you can still make a bunch of money but it's not like buying an NFL team or buying an MBA team it's been a while since there's been a new owner who didn't immediately start spending a ton of money like Ispia or Tepper Cohen with the Mets like right as soon as they buy it as soon as they have their new toy they want to add as many accessories to it as they possibly get none of them win exactly like Tepper it thinks a train wreck in Carolina right Steve Cohen even he said we we're gonna have to pair this back this is not the way to be successful in sports yeah not a good happen it could happen not good will in South Haven has a quick question hey well what's up cookie hey well all right well it's gone well he was turning he was safely turning did you hear that he wanted to know where Mike Ditka would break um talked about it a little early yeah Mike did kiss different because he played a long time ago he won and he was part of the character so if you want to go with the popularity being a factor I think that raises him up I don't think he's top 10 I don't think he's top 15 he might be top 20 maybe I don't know if you add in coaching yeah that's why I'm I'm adding in coaching because you're adding in coaching yeah I'm adding and coaching because he accomplished a lot you know you come I mean they won the Super Bowl he did he was the character he was one of the characters wildly successful restaurant for a long time commercials when he told them not to do commercials he was out there filming commercials yeah we need to focus here but I'll take all those ads never that he's in he's in he's been in a few movies like he did guys is he might be top 20 maybe the last movie he was at was he kicking and screaming kicking and screaming yeah exactly right that's a great movie all right I'm gonna watch the Beverly Hills cop what is the name of it axle folding axle F axle F I'm gonna watch that tonight I'll have a book report for everybody I love you tomorrow that's great I'm gonna go take a nap all right have a great rest of your day for Charlie for Kevin for Adam um cap have a great rest of your money a great week take that from Chicago
