[Music] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. Now time for "Shatter No Shot" brought to you by. That be ESPN bat. Live in Illinois, download the ESPN bat app. Get a hundred dollars free bats with any sports book bat we say good morning to Shay Winger Norton. Good morning on a Wednesday. Capy, we've received a missive from Danny Zetterman. It sounds like the great Tony Pavek is on the case. He's gonna get you back. Well, I'm gonna need Danny to keep his beak out of it. This is very hard for Cap. We don't need Zetterman making fun here. That's what he's doing. Just trying to poke at you, Cap. Don't you just keep your beak out of it, Zetterman. How about that? He's got it. We've got people on the case. Don't worry about it. But how about this? The great people at Apt Electronics. Yes. My friend, Eric, just texted me. Do you have the tag number? I have a friend that's worked there in baggage forever. She's gonna try and get your bag for you. Look at all these people showing out for you. I wonder if we can get a listener to drive to Toronto and pick up your bag. Well, here's the thing. Once again, it's not about the sledgehammer. It's about, you know, being kind. The feather. Me with the clarion call to the people in the first hour. The QR code of the bottom of the screen. That's what would work, Che. You don't demand anything. What I did is a nice appeal. You see that, Jay Moore? An appeal. That's what I did. I'm right there with you. We should just get a partner and see if we can just get a bus. We just drive to go get the bag, man. We'll give out tickets so people can sit on the bus for us as we go pick up caps back at Toronto. When do you see a limo? Take us up there in one of their little buses. Say hello! You're asking for a partner now. Cushion. Wow. Wow. You just worry about fixing your buck. Oh, man. Che, I was going to say, out of everybody in sports, if someone comes in the town, like, for instance, like a messif in soccer, Otani the same way. Otani, clearly the pied piper to be able to bring people to the ballpark for the White Sox yesterday. If I give you messie in Otani, can you give me a third in which people say I'm coming to the ballpark to see this one individual? Caitlyn Clark, let's move on. In baseball. Messy doesn't play baseball. I was going to say, just like in, I'm talking about anyone else in the sport. In the sport of baseball? Yeah. No. Damn. No. Okay, go ahead. There are rumors developing that the Chicago Bears are potentially looking into signing free agent center Connor Williams, the Williams was regarded as one of the best centers in the NFL before a knee injury ended his season in 2023. Injury concerns seemed to kind of be the only thing that would hold the Bears back from this. We know in the past, Ryan Polls has been, I'll say, reticent to sign guys with an injury history. But if the Bears bring in Connor Williams and he is healthy, shot or no shot. This is a division winning signing. That's a shot. Connor Williams was going to be the prize on the offensive line this off season until early December when the Scott Hanson report, we just learned that Connor Williams is torn his ACL on the red zone. Yeah. Oh my God. The Bears were going to be in a bidding war. There were a lot of teams that were after that, dude. And all of a sudden, blowing ACL later, he's still on the right side and he just had a medical check that was reading about where he said, I think I'll be ready to go opening game. Opening game? Took Derek Rose two years to come back from that. This guy's going to play offensive line. It's like nine months. Oh, that technology, something else. Isn't it? It's amazing how long, how it's changed. And we learned that Derek had a lot more issues that he was dealing with physically. It's not a shot at Derek. It's praised for the medical industry. This guy taught in December and he's going to be ready to play O-line in September. Good for him, man. Bring him in if he can play. Yeah, I would say that that is a shot. When you think about it from a wins above replacement standpoint, I don't know if it goes that far, but it just solidifies a spot that is sorely needed on this football team. So I would say that that was solidified and locked in a spot that way you don't have to worry about it because that guy could be solid for an anchor in that spot. Well, then you could move Ryan Bates to the right guard spot and use Nate Davis as a swing guy until you can get enough money off the books to eat his contract and get him out of here. Yeah. I was going to ask follow-up, shot or no shot, signing collar with Connor Williams would end Nate Davis's time in Chicago. But what's his dead cap right now? Because that's all you have to look at. Nate Davis's contract, I'll tell you what his dead cap number is. I'm very bottom line with the cap and I just think that if you have a question about your roster, you want to remove as many questions as possible. That signing would remove that question mark. His dead cap hit right now is still $12.7 million. If you post June 1st, you actually save money cutting him. Post June 1? Post June 1 designation. You save about $600,000 cutting him. $10 million on the dead cap and there's a $600,000 savings on it. If they sign Connor Williams, I think he's gone. Maybe. But they do need some depth pieces. Like he at least gives you depth. I'm not sure they release him. I think he doesn't have his starting spot just handed to him. All of a sudden you go Connor Williams, Ryan Bates, Tevin Jenkins, Darnell Wright, Braxton Jones, and then you've got Coleman Shelton who you signed and a kid on a Kiran Amagaji who you drafted out of Yale. So all of a sudden now, you've got some different pieces in there. Larry Borms still around. Like you've got some depth in there. I don't know if they release him, but maybe. Shay. All right. The New York Knicks made a pretty surprising trade yesterday. They shipped Booyan Bogdanovich along with Countum. One, two, three, four, five. First round picks from Michael Bridges from the Nets. Bridges is a good player, but probably not a top 40 guy that would have you rushing to cash in your war chest of draft capital. The Knicks did. Made me wonder. Shot or no shot. The Bulls will get a first round pick for Zach Levine. That's a shot. That's a shot. Now they're not getting a unprotected pick that's going to end up in the top five. No, but could they get some type of a pick? Yeah. Yes, but now we're here in Casey Johnson, who I love. Casey Johnson does not report things without doing his due diligence. He is not a ready shoot aim guy. You know that. Casey is saying there's a path to a reconciliation between the Bulls and Zach Levine, where he would play the two guard spot or the wing alongside Josh Giddy. Because Zach, one thing he can do is shoot the ball. So if you're not playing him with Lamar de Rosen, like I spoke to a current NBA head coach, not named Dilly Bonovan. And this coach said to me, if you're going to keep the Rosen, then the trade for Giddy was stupid. If you're going to let the Rosen go and you're going to let this guy have the ball in his hands and be a ball dominant lead guard, worth a shot to go from a 30 year old guy to a 22 year old guy. He was disappointed. You couldn't add some type of draft capital. You got the Nick's throwing 50 picks at somebody. You couldn't get Oklahoma City to give you one. Nothing. Couple seconds. Nothing. But he said it's worth a risk. But he said it again, if you keep the Rosen with this kid, you just got done. It's a shot that you can get a number one, a first round draft pick for Zach Levine. Yes, you could. Will the Bulls do that? I'm not sure that they will. As a matter of fact, I can tell you that the doors are closing a lot around the NBA on Zach Levine being part of their team. There's a lot of doors that are closing that they don't want Zach on the team. It's not because of the amount of scoring that he can provide. It's also the injury risk. Where was he at the end of the season? He was hurt, correct? Correct. So for the amount of money that he's been paid, we talk about return on investment a lot on this show, right? Correct. Have the Bulls been able to really get that from Zach Levine on a regular basis? And he's still on 120 mil on the deal. There are teams that are blocking at even thinking about Zach Levine being on their team. And he's a good person. Like he's not cancerous in the locker room. No, it's about production. Correct. Wait, we have to take back how much money? Right. If he was in the final year of his deal, I think you'd have a lot of suitors. 120 million? I think there's a prevailing thought around the league that says that if Zach-- if we have a good team and we add Zach Levine on it, he will be ball dominant and want to get his lion's share of the shots. But if you already have a ready-made team and if he's not willing to come off the bench, then what's his worth? Especially before the amount of money that he's making. That's a thought of from a number of teams in the league. Shay? All right. You can't put-- he had a reaction yesterday to J.J. Redick working blue in his introductory press conference with the Lakers, dropping F-Bombs. Waddle-- Waddle and Sylvie Show, Peggy and Sylvie yesterday talked to Mike Wilbon. He weighed in on this. You know J.J. Redick, we don't. Mm-hmm. And we were surprised that this took on a bigger story than we were anticipating. His reaction-- I don't know if you heard the press conference. I watched the whole thing. OK. So when he was asked about dispelling at-- he was asked the question about the misconception about him. And if there's anything you would like to-- Hey, drop the F-Bombs. And he dropped the F-Bombs. There were people who I looked to, who were turned off, and were saying, that's not a place to swear. That's a press conference. We don't-- OK. OK. What did you say again? Get a life. Get a life. There's sports. Blocker rooms. That's what you do. Everyone thinks that we're not-- Everyone does. Well, but you know what Peggy, I have to get used to the fact that these things are on live television because I know and I'm having real conversation. Conversation. I'm not using the word interview, which is the dumbest, most, you know, just misguidedly used word when it comes to these things. Interview. You're interviewing anybody. You're having conversations. Yes. Unless you are sitting with someone and you are appointed who have an interview. Yes. We've all had many of those, and we know it's different. So, when you're having a conversation, my language is going to be whatever it is to put that person at ease with me and me be comfortable with that person. And with people in sports, and particularly, yes, I'm going to get a story here with men, it's going to be salty. It's going to have four letter words. Mine would have that 90% of the time. So, get a life. People who think that what they think JJ Ritter is going to walk into a locker room and not use that word all day and all night. Right. Get out of my life. I hate those people. Shot or no shot. Wilbond's right. Redick did nothing wrong. No, well, he's completely wrong. Wilbond is completely wrong about it. So, since it's commonplace for him to use four letter words, do it with the cornheiser on PTI. Just use it because that's how we talk, right? Since we're casual in that conversation, then do it on one of the greatest shows the ESPN's ever produced. Go ahead and use it. Why doesn't Wilbond do that? It's because he's on live television. He's a professional. So, you can't ask the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers to be a professional just for an hour to talk to the press. So, you can hate me Wilbond. I couldn't care less. You can hate me. I don't care. Since he trailed off and said that you hate those people. Okay. Then why don't you use those words? Go ahead. The reason why is because it's about professionalism. You want to do that in the locker room. That's where it belongs. But you have to represent not only the Lakers, but yourself. Your brand. Your JJ Redick. And so, you feel comfortable saying that probably on local TV at Los Angeles, definitely on ESPN loss on ESPN LA, you want to do that? Go right ahead. But it looks bad for you when you do that. You mean you have... Here's the thing, Cap. What do we always say about coaching? You want to make sure your players have discipline. But if the tip of the spirit doesn't have discipline, then you can kind of find out what the Lakers are going to be all about. If he doesn't have discipline in his own mouth to be able to represent himself and the Lakers, what do you think Lakers are going to be like? Yeah, I was actually stunned by Mike's response to Sylvie and Peggy stunned. Again, in the locker room and you're talking to your team, yeah, that's how people talk. That's pro sports. It is. No problem with it. You're standing around with a bunch of the reporters at a shoot around and you drop an F, but no problem. It's just part of the deal. A live press conference that's airing live on radio and TV around the country, streaming everywhere around the world, and it's on live on TV in LA and you're dropping F bombs. That is offensive and inappropriate. Do I use that word? Yes. I don't use it on the radio. I don't use it on TV. No. I thought Mike's response, and I love Mike. Mike's response was ridiculous. And again, I'm no prude, but when it comes to this situation, you have to understand time and place. Yeah. Time and place. Correct. You want to be able to use that. Use it any time you want, but the point is those that, you know, how come Wilbunden used it then? Because he understands his job would be on the line if he did that. How come JJ Reagan do that on first take? He did it on the podcast because it's just wide open. It's a podcast with LeBron or, you know, the old man of the three on that other podcast. You could do it on that particular platform. Podcasts is different, but they allow it. But you're the, but you are the head coach of the Lakers. Correct. Time and place. Agreed. And by the way, when it fails, when it fails, you will look like a complete idiot. Correct. Because I'm the big bad ass JJ retic. I'm walking in here like the sheriff, the new sheriff in town, and he's using all that, that language. And again, I have no prude cap. I'm just saying that he can say what he wants to say, but you have to understand that you're representing the organization when you take that mic. He also had to deal with a controversy from a woman from Duke who said that he said something very off sides to her when he was a player. Racially used an epithet toward her. She said the only time that's ever been said to my face was by a Duke basketball player. And today he was named head coach at Los Angeles Lakers. What a world. And now his team immediately responded, said, that's not true. It never happened. Okay. So he said, she said situation. But right away, he's got two things he's already dealing with. People that are mad about him using the F bomb in the setting that he did. And then what she tweeted. Yeah. And just for the record, I'm not mad at JJ retic. What I'm saying is that you have to understand who you are and who the Lakers are. And you have to be professional. There's professional settings. And then there's settings in which you want to be loose. You can be loose. Only makes sense to me. You know, Sylvie's like almost like a given in an amen in the background. Sylvie, you dropped the F word today with Jesse. See how long you last around here. Or any of us. Right. Yeah, I thought it was very, very pathetic that JJ did that. And again, there are other settings. We've all stood around coaches where they. Sure. My effing team. That's different. Not where he was doing it. Your introduction press conference and it's that. On live TV. It's like. Around the NFL is next on Captain Jay Hood. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Jeff and Jay Hood are back. On Chicago's home for sports. We are firmly entrenched in list season, hoodie. There is a new list every day. Something about the NFL teams today. We have the underrated and overrated teams in 2024 from the athletic. I just want to know if you agree with any of these on the list. We'll start with underrated. The Atlanta Falcons. Are they underrated or overrated? This says underrated. There's some hype out of there. Is it not from the off season? You go silent for cousins. Yeah. You fix that coach. And they say underrated. You've got weapons, Kyle Pitt, Drake London, Bijon Robinson, Raheem Morris comes in as the coach. You've got a new quarterback. We've died. I thought it was the only weakness they had last season. I would say, I know that's not one of the categories. They're fairly rated as a team that should be atop the NFC South. They will be a playoff team this year. The wholesale changes that quarterback. They've got the weapons in place. You know, seven and ten turns into a nine or ten win ball club this season. Because it's Kirk Cousins after all. Now I can't tell you what happens after the regular season. I can't tell you what happens in the playoffs, but they will get there. Look, this Atlanta team has a lot of talent. They were under achieving under Arthur Smith. Mm-hmm. Everyone loves Raheem Morris. Loves him. It feels like he deserved a second chance at being a head coach. And so now he's got this. They got, as you mentioned, Darno Mooney they have. And Kyle Pitts they have. And Drake London they have. And Bijon Robinson and Tyler Algier. And then they go get Kirk Cousins. And now they've got Michael Pennix who will be developed behind a veteran quarterback. Whether it was a smart picker or not, I heard Tannenbaum this morning saying, allocation of assets, you should have gotten somebody there that impacts your team now. But perhaps five years from now we're all going to go back, wow, what a smart pick that was. Pennix turned into a superstar. I don't know. That team is loaded with skill players. They've got good talented lines. Yeah, that team should win that division. And they are underrated. I would say, Shay, that they may carolize that going to do anything. Saints will be who they are. Tampa might stay the same or take a step back. But I see the Falcons because of the auditions to be fairly rated. A team that should be on the run. On the come, brother. What's the next team? I'm going to go with the first overrated team here. Baltimore Ravens. I agree firmly. Very strongly that they are overrated this season. I will be on there under. They lost their defensive coordinator, Mike McDonald. They lost three starters on their offensive line. They added Derek Henry, who at some point just has to show his age. Like the running back is not quarterback. At his age, he's basically Tom Brady at 45 years old. At some point it will catch up to him. And I just don't believe that they can stay as healthy and as impactful as they were on defense last year. I would agree. Thirteen and four last year. Take a little bit of a back seat. The Bengals will be better this year. That could be a win or two more than they had last year again. Even with the ups and downs, still nine and eight in a very tough AFC North. But I would say that the Ravens take a little bit of a step back. Maybe overrated. Still could be a playoff team. Could be. That whole division could be. Could be. I wouldn't be shocked if you said, "Oh my goodness." They had a couple of more injuries and the Ravens finished with eight wins because of the division and the AFC and the schedule and all that. I also wouldn't be shocked if they won 12 ball games. But I do think they're a little overrated. And I do expect a slight regression. How about that about Mike McDonald, man? I mean, being a defensive coordinator, now going back on the road to do the tours again. McDonald's always been great over the years. Okay. Next overrated team I have for you or underrated team rather. What did I say wrong? What are you talking about Mike McDonald? The head coach of the Seahawks. Hm. Do we, brothers? Not there anymore. Okay. Go ahead. Mike McDonald. The next underrated team on this list. Unfortunately, I agree with this one as well as the Green Bay Packers. I think all the shine in the division going to the Lions, who I expect to take a slight step back, still be good. It has let the Packers fly under the radar a little bit. Jordan Love proved to me at the end of last season that he is a superstar. In root, I'll say. I don't think he is yet. But he will be. Say that again. What did you say? I do. Again. I tipped my cap when I proved wrong. And Jordan loved it that. How about tipping your cap here when I said pretty good kid in August? Yeah. Well, when you were saying that he was throwing interceptions like it was his job. Yeah. And my job used to be to look at players and go, I could see what that guy can become. Didn't mean I was always right. But wrong plenty. I was right on that one. You did a great job. And on the back. Well done, cap. Thank you. One on the inside. We got about 50 on the lost side. I still Mitch still has time. Packers add Josh Jacobs, Xavier McKinney, Jordan Morgan at the tackle position, linebacker, Edger and Cooper. They've got the best coach in the division, I would say. This is a team I think is going to win the NFC North, unfortunately. I hate them. I don't want it to be true. What do you think? You think? Will you put your money down and take the Packers? What was the matter? He's got Michael McDonald from Steely Dan on his screen. It's wrong Michael McDonald. What do you mean? The one coaching the Seahawks is not the guy for Steely Dan. It's not? No. I just laid out what happened. He was coaching now back on the road. Right? Jay Moore? Tell him. Come on. You can hear that every eight minutes on yacht rock radio. He was there, cap. Don't you think that's great? He says, you know what, enough in this coaching. I love singing. Back on the road. Back out. Yeah. Let's go do it. Will you put your money down on the Packers to win the division? Oh, absolutely not. Shea believes that they can win the division. I didn't say they can, but I won't put my money down on it. My money's on the cowboy. Oh, God. Come on. Stop. No. Don't even have you placed that bet. You are not allowed. I don't know how many times do we have to tell you this? I have not bet it yet. You are not allowed. What do you mean yet? We asked you not to. I've got to see how things progress here. Anyway, just hand the money to me or Shea. In terms of the packer, I think the packer are good. I think you're overrating them. A bit. They're good. They're not great. He's a really good quarterback. I think they're underrated. They're underrated. So how many wins do you have for him? Oh, I don't know yet. It's just June. I'm not sure yet. I think they're underrated. Yeah, I don't think they're underrated. They're wide receiver room. Yeah. Very pedestrian. Oh, I respect Jaden Reed. Michigan State legend. I like our quarterback. Respect Jaden Reed. Like our quarterback. But they've got some holes there. They do. Imagine if it comes down to the packers and bears again for the top spot in the north. That very well could be the case. By the way, back to the hour he's a free agent. He's still sitting on the market. Yes. Probably a little bit of a forced retirement there. No. He just spoke. He said, "I want to play multiple years. I'm healthier than I've been in a long time." I didn't say he wants to retire. I said it might be a little bit of a forced retirement. I believe that we need to go get... Let's get Bakhtiari in Connor Williams. I'm good. He's closer to being an ESPN Milwaukee analyst than a player. Dude, I'm good. Like Bakhtiari can say with his wand, his knees speak for themselves. I'm good. Damn. Just saying. A big name, Cap. But as far as ability, I don't think it's there anymore. But he'll be great on the ESPN Milwaukee as a third man on one of these shows up there. I'm just saying. Jen Gabe Chewy and Bakhtiariari. Yes. We do not have Waddle Wednesday because Waddle is off, but we can fill the time talking about the press conference that took place yesterday with Chicago Bulls player Josh Giddy. You'll call, as Caruso now is with Oklahoma City, and Josh Giddy's now part of the Chicago Bulls. And Giddy had a lot of things to say to the press yesterday, just talking about, for instance, like, Josh Giddy, talk about acclimating yourself to the Bulls' style of play. No, we haven't spoke style a lot. I mean, it's the first couple of days just getting to know each other. It's the first time I met a lot of the people here in the organization. So, style of play, roles and all those things. We haven't really discussed much. A lot of the first few interactions are just getting to know each other on a personal level. So, but those times will come. We'll speak a lot over the phone over the next, you know, month, six weeks while I'm with the national team, but just learning the style of play early is something I want to do. Understanding the offense and what they run. Whether that's through watching games, I'm going to watch a lot of their games from the last couple seasons and see what they do, how they defend as a team, the offense that they run. So, getting an idea for that early before, you know, training camp before the guys get back here is going to be important, especially for a guy, you know, for a point guard. You know, you've got to learn the offense and you've got to know what's happened down on the floor. And I think if I can get a head start on that before I get back here in September, that's going to really help me and help the team. Thoughts there from Josh Giddy yesterday. So, I watched tape on Josh Giddy. Again, he's not a great shooter. He is an incredibly creative passer. Very good with the ball in his hands. He has length to him. He's not like a six foot point guard here. This is a six seven guy. He's 22 years of age. I'm disappointed they couldn't extract some draft capital in the trade, but to get a player like that and trade a 30 year old, that was your most marketable asset that you're training. Again, disappointed they couldn't get draft capital with the deal, but I think he's going to put up really good numbers here. It's going to be really good numbers on a bad team. So, there's a couple of things here from people I talked to over the last 72 hours regarding Josh Giddy cap. One thing is that I feel like this is definitely the end for Lonzo Ball. Have you heard anything about Lonzo Ball as far as him coming back to the ball club in November or playing for the Bulls at all? It makes me wonder if he's ever going to play at all. Because one of the reasons why you make this deal is because you're getting someone like Lonzo Ball that is long and that can be able to pass the basketball. It's funny the parallel between Josh Giddy and Lonzo Ball. You know, when Lonzo Ball first came to the league, you remember this with New Orleans, could not shoot the basketball, was not good, but good as far as you should be in the basketball. Give me with the Lakers. But the Lakers rather. Correct. And then he went to the Pelicans. And then he finally shot. Yes. He worked hard with New Orleans. Because his shot used to be, I remember watching him and his shot would come from his hip. It was almost like a set shot. I'm like, what is he doing? Yeah. And he had very little ability to knock that shot down so they would play him for the drive. The Lakers trade him to New Orleans in a deal and he remakes his shot and becomes a really accomplished three-point shooter. Became better shooter with New Orleans, but when he first started in the league, you know, as I mentioned, didn't have a shot, but he could still pass the basketball. It's funny that Giddy's in that same category as someone who, again, for his size can pass the basketball. But his shot leads a lot to be desired. He has to continue to work on that. But again, going back full circle to Lonzo Ball, I feel like this is the replacement for Lonzo Ball in Josh Giddy. And you're getting a younger, more healthier asset. Very well put. I completely agree with you. I'll be surprised if they even go to camp with Lonzo Ball. I could see them putting his contract into a deal where they make the money right. And so they take the remaining money and they move it to another team to match up salaries. I feel like that's a possibility. He's done. Lonzo's net, whether he gets back on the quarter or not, I don't think he can stay healthy and I just think it's pie in the sky to expect him to return to the level he was ever at. I wouldn't roll the dice like that. But if you have Josh Giddy, a Kobe White, and then you're willing to move on from some of your more expensive but underperforming asset sign and trade with the Rosen would also be something I would do in there. They're going to resign Patrick Williams and he's going to get a chance to develop and see what happens. We'll find out. We will find out where it goes. But that's my thoughts on the Giddy deal. Yeah. I just think they could have gotten draft capital. Well, let's talk about that for a second because what you're dealing with if you're our tourist car show this, you're working with Sam Presti, a guy that's a wheeler and a dealer. Correct. Now, Sam Presti is a hardliner in the league, meaning that if you say, "Hey, I want to have Josh Giddy on the team," and you say, "Okay, well, I want to ask Caruso." And then you say, "Yeah, can I get one of your draft picks?" Sam Presti's like, "No, it's going to be one for one. Do we have a deal or not?" He's that guy. Correct. He's that guy. But I want you to understand, Sam Presti's been around for a long time and he's one of these, taking our leave at GMs, for what I understand. You have the same perspective that I do because someone I talked to in the league yesterday. And he said, "Look, Sam Presti does not usually lose deals." No. He's also got a team. They were the number one seed. They have a chance to take the next step. But he said, Sacramento offered the 13th pick in round one. He said it's a bad draft. Yeah. You're rolling the dice there. With Giddy, you get a player. Only 22 has played successfully in the league. You can develop them as your player development any good. I love their player development guy, Peter Patton, my huge fan. Peter's very good at working with shooters the whole deal. Can he take the next step? That remains to be seen. But you're right. Sam Presti says, "Okay. Send him to Sacramento then. You're not getting a pick too." Yeah. His thought, Sam Presti, is, "It's taking our leave at." Now, of course, you and I on the surface are like, "Wait a minute. Oklahoma City's got 7,000 picks. How come you can't give up one?" You know why? Because we understand on that call, Presti's pretty much telling A.K. You have a 21-year-old. That's better than any draft pick that you'd get. Any draft pick that can give you. I'm giving you a young player. It's the equivalent of a draft pick. Correct. I'll hang up the phone now. Okay. We'll do it. Okay. Then put the deal through. That's who Sam Presti is. There's very few organizations, Cap, in which you just don't have any wiggle room. You might be friends with a GM. You might be friends with an organization. But one thing for sure is like for Sam Presti, Miami's like this, San Antonio's like this. You know, there's a few organizations just like, "Here's the deal. You want it or not because I can move on and get someone else." And for A.K. Let's just be honest, Cap. When you think of all the best GMs in the NBA, A.K.s on the outside looking in. I don't know who his allies are. I don't know who his friends are, but not enough to be able to make a blockbuster deal. He's not one of these guys. It's in the circle of like great GMs that work together and try to develop a team because when you haven't done anything, this is the first trade you've made since August of 2021, then the other GMs around the league say, "Is this you, Arturis? I don't recognize your voice. I haven't heard from you in years." So that's why he's not swinging big deals. And I don't know who his allies are that he could make a deal with. But with Sam Presti, he was like, "Take her or leave it." And that's who he is. The other thing too, and by the way, again, no wiggle room when it comes to Presti. The other thing is that we have to bring up is I know that there are some people that are disappointed that Caruso is no longer on the team. The Bulls won. We're not going to pay four years, 80 million to Caruso. Not at age 30 on a team that's going nowhere. And that's the second point. The second point is, where are you going with Caruso if you signed him? He is the Swiss Army knife for I team that could do multiple things. And so for the Bulls, it'd be a luxury, but even with him on the team, where was the team going? That's why the deal took place. Correct. That's what I was just saying to you. The team's going nowhere. By the time they're ready, if the rebuild works to compete, you'd be like 35 years old. No, that would be just lighting 80 million on fire. Good player. You got a 22 year old asset. Now find a way to develop it. I know you hear this on the phone, like I hear this on the phone. The same comment. I don't know what they're doing. I heard that from three people last couple of days. I don't know what they're doing or what they're trying to be. Correct. The one head coach that I spoke to said, okay, if they move on from DeRosen, okay, that's a step in the right direction, not that he's not a good player, but he's 33, 34. What are you doing? Two for 80 for him? No. He can go to a real good team and give him another score, a different story. So he said, I would play Josh Giddy, ball in his hands. He has to have the ball in his hands. Kobe White, Patrick Williams, I/O Desumu, see what you get at pick 11 and then see what deal can you get something in the sign and trade, draft capital. Next year's draft is one of the best in recent memory. You've got to get more draft picks and you've got to finish with one of the 10 worst records. You have to be in the top 10 or you convey your pick the San Antonio. So you've got to tank enough that you're in the top 10. I understand that DeRosen loves Chicago and it's a headscratcher to me. He might love the city, but just the team isn't going anywhere. A sign in trade would be prudent. Correct. You got to do it. And hopefully that happens. You'll sing? And, but here's the thing, there's been scenarios paying to me also that if Levine's not here, that's going to be a white and Giddy back court and that means that you are going in the wrong direction. You're trying to tank. Oh, no question. So we'll see. We'll see. Is there any loyalty in sports anymore next on cap and Jhood? Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention? I've just been handed an urgent news story and Jhood are back. It's a cap and Jhood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN show. Coming in at Chicago app. We'll hear from Fran for Shiller coming up at 9 o'clock until we get ready for the NBA draft. Two nights of the draft. I'm going to get night two is going to be earlier. It's going to be in the afternoon cap because it was moved because of the presidential debates. But we're going to get two nights of the draft now. By the way, we got to bring up this story about Texas A&M. So a thrilling Texas A&M, Tennessee college world series. It was a voice of the USC Flames baseball team. I love, you know, college baseball cap. And it's done well. It's great. And that was a terrific series Jim slash slash Nagle slash Nagle is his name. Yeah, he doesn't look like he's coming off very well because he was so arrogant at the press conference and then 24 hours later, everything changed. Now here's a perfect question by a reporter because there's rumor in you window out there. A coach, you know, you might be moving on. How do you answer these rumors? Listen to this. With respect to the difficult outcome tonight, but with the rumors circulating today about a specific job opening, what do you have to say about your future in Aggieland? Yeah, I mean, I think it's pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. But my, I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind. And that's unfair to talk about something like that. They'll be like you asking my gummer if he's going to sign in this draft. But I understand you got to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job. And I've poured every ounce of my soul in this job. And I've given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it to write that. Yeah. 24 hours later, he's the head coach at Texas and right after that answer, he got up and stormed out. Okay, Coach Kaplan, there's rumored innuendo out there that you might be moving on after, you know, losing big game in the College World Series. How do you address those rumors? I don't talk about other jobs. You want to talk about my team? I'll tell you anything you want. I love this university. I don't talk about other jobs. But there's stories out there that you might be leaving going someplace else. Will you be leaving to go someplace else? I'm the head coach at Texas A&M. I don't talk about other jobs. Period. Do not discuss jobs. I'll talk about my team, our university, everything. I've poured everything into this job. You want to talk about that? I will. I don't talk about other schools. You see how easy that was? Yes. You didn't have to make the reporter feel two feet tall. Correct. Yeah. Yeah, I'm going to go write that. I'm going to write that that you're a jag that you left in 24 hours later, making him feel small and then take the job anyway. Right. That makes you look bad. Gary Barnett sent an email. We're taking a purple back to Pasadena and like an hour later, he's the coach of Colorado. What are you doing? You just know common it. That's all? No. You don't even have to say no comment. Yeah. I don't talk about other jobs. I'm the coach here at Texas A&M. You want to talk about them? Love to answer your questions. I mean, you just have to know how to handle it. You don't need a PR firm to for you to be able to answer that question well. Correct. God. That's correct. That's right. Now, what if you're a parent? We're under recruits. And you're dealing with this guy that's leaves in the german in the dark, how can I trust you? Right. See, he said, he said, he said, he said his own self up by doing that for no reason about Brian Kelly, Brian Kelly is in a home talking to a kid for Notre Dame. Yeah. And the dad gets up to go to the bathroom. The dad walks back into the living room goes, hey, coach, just checking my phone. It says here, you're the new coach at LSU and he got a panic and ran out of house. Oh, I want to get off those plastic couches, too. Those things stick and then they eat their horror. Those plastic couches are the worst. We'll talk to Coach Priscilla in two minutes on Captain Jay Hood.
