(music) Good morning and welcome into the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. Now time for Shara No Shot brought to you by that will be ESPN back now live in Illinois. Sign up today, the year's just get a hundred dollars of motive. That's your ANY sports for bet. We said good morning to Shae Debbie and Norm. Good morning boys on a Monday. How are we feeling? Awesome man. Awesome to be back with you guys. If I don't get my luggage, so be it. You know when you are kind of drifting into someone else's lane when you're driving? And you know it's your fault. Somebody just laid on the horn on me this morning on South Shore Drive and I know it was my fault. It's my fault. I didn't, you know when you get into the car wash sometimes the mirrors readjust themselves. You've seen this before like oh, the old car wash comes in and the mirrors are. I'm drifting in the left lane this morning cap and the guy just lays on the horn and I just put my hand out. I was like you know what? Sorry. That's all on me brother. Sorry. And I know that feels bad because I know what that is on the other side. You're like why is this person just this jackaloon in my lane and I just felt bad. I've been feeling bad about it today because I kind of crashed into that guy. Yeah, but it happened. You're here. He's okay. No accident, right? No accidents, sir. You're good to go. No accident because there wasn't an accident. I would have been here faster. You're like super sweet ride. Yep. It's super cool. Yep. When the big SUV pulls into the parking garage and I see you go by it makes me smile because I know you love that vehicle and there's a button in your vehicle, I'm sure because I have it. You hit the button and the mirrors fold in. Yes. Yes. Before you go into any car wash, hit that button. Yeah. It'll alleviate your problem. Yes. Felt bad about it. Guy was laying on his horn. He wasn't mean just laying, but I deserved it. 100%. Correct. It happens. Here's Shay Norlin. Shay. All right, it's NBA draft week and the Bulls are reportedly aggressively looking to move Zach Levine. Casey Johnson reported as many as 15 trades involving Levine have been floated 15. The one problem I kind of have with it is the players you get back in a Levine deal are going to be on expiring contracts. They will not be players you're expected to build around. You might get somebody worth extending, but it'll be guys that are on expiring deals. You look to get off the money sooner. Levine in his current iteration and with his price tag likely not going to fetch much in the way of draft capital, you might get a second round pick. I saw an offer floated where Philly was sending a second round pick this year. So that leads me to the question shot or no shot. The Bulls will trade Zach Levine before the draft on Wednesday. That's a shot. They got to move on. They have to. First of all, I think we have an incompetent front office. They've done nothing to dissuade me from that opinion. But once you decided you're going to move Alex Caruso and the fact that was it Will Gottlieb from CHCO or was it Darnell? Maybe somebody reported that the Bulls I think it was Gottlieb Bulls had multiple offers of multiple first round picks, including one that would be in the top 10. Nope. Hang on to him. Yep, because it's a joke got a turn of lights on in the spring cap got to have a play in or play off at the United Center as if that matters with that roster. Yeah. But think about it. And I asked you this before I left and I'd love for somebody to answer this for me. Okay. So you sell out one home playing game. I don't know how much that one game makes, but you're telling me that that one night of gate and concessions and parking and TV revenue is more valuable than adding a top 10 NBA draft pick to your lousy roster. That's correct because you and I and the fans don't matter. That's why it matters. It is paramount for the Bulls from their standpoint to keep the lights on at the United Center for play and game. But John, if I said to you, you're not going to get that gate tonight, whatever that is, let's call it two million. Sure. Maybe I'm way short. Maybe I'm overstepped, whatever. But you're going to draft a player that's going to be part of finally turning this nonsensical franchise around Dalton connect. He's supposed to be there around nine or 10. Oh, we need perimeter shooting, huh, that guy's a really good player. Maybe he gets you into a position where you're in the playoffs and he bangs threes that gets you into the next round and you make more money. It's penny wise and pound foolish. Isn't that the term? It is. It's idiotic. Captain, this is how they think they're over there and it's not like, Oh my God, you struggle at the gate. So we must find a way to get into the play and just to appease the players. Get you lead the league in attendance number one in attendance. So that's why that's why it doesn't make sense. And by the way, if you missed that money from the play in, Jada Jackson or Justin Timberlake will fill the bill. Correct. They were all. They were both here last week and you know how much the rent is on that building. It's a lot over a million dollars to be able to rent that building. So it's not like you're missing the money. You're correct. That's why it doesn't make sense. Even Shay in a week draft that it is, you have to start thinking about younger assets. And so it's a no shot. The tray will not take place before the draft. The draft is Wednesday this year. And then Thursday, it is earlier in the day because of the presidential debates. Shay. All right, Bob Nightingale reported over the weekend, the White Sox are already having internal conversations regarding replacing manager Pedro Grafoul in 2025. Nightingale said the Sox are looking at Skip Schumacher, the current manager of the 27 and 50 Miami Marlins. And that Tony LaRusa will play a quote integral role in the decision making process and hiring a new manager shot or no shot. The White Sox are destined to screw this up. The hiring of Schumacher like they won't get it done. You mean, Shay? They're going to hire the wrong guy. They're going to let Tony lead the search and it's something along the way. They will screw this up. Wow, let's say, well, it's a shot because of how the organization is going at this point in time. Chris Gatz was his got the people that he had in the minor league system. It was his average. They think it was middle of the pack as far as basically baseball, the minor league talent for the Chicago White Sox. So now he's a general manager. I know that they have new voices in the front office. But again, it screwed up when you're not willing to spend money in a major market like Chicago. You can call yourself the number one team in town. Number two team in town. It does not matter. If you're not willing to spend money, then of course, it always feels like you're screwing it up. You just can't win on the cheap. You just can't, not in this city. You can't do that. You have to be able to spend money. If I'm Jerry Reinsdorf at his age and if I love baseball so much, I will do whatever it takes to win. You may not be competitive from a butts and seed standpoint, I guaranteed rates. But if nothing else, I will have a competitive ball club. Skip Schumacher was the manager of the year, right? Can you win manager of the year last year? I don't know. I think he did. He's a good baseball man. He did win manager of the year. Yeah. He's a really good baseball man. My question is he's got the answer. He's out of contract. He's going to be a free agent like counsel was last winter. Why would Skip Schumacher take this job? Money. But how much would he get paid? Hold on a second. Money. Yeah. He's paid $8 million a year for Craig counsel. Now maybe Skip Schumacher doesn't have the 10 year resume that Craig does. I can promise you someone out there who needs a manager will pay more than the White Sox. The Sox are not paying $5 million and $6 million for a manager. And I hear he's a really good baseball man. The hope is that Schumacher has a really good agent for him to understand that if you went from Miami to the White Sox, it's a lateral move. Correct. That's the way. I'm not trying to compare market size. I'm just talking about way that you that you run your ball. Level of commitment to winning. Yeah. It's the same. Why would Skip Schumacher if he's really good? And again, I keep hearing from people I trust in the game. Dude, he's a really good manager. Really good baseball man. He's had a horrible situation in Miami. How do you let the manager of the year get to the final year of his deal? Because you're cheap. Yeah. So it's not a very well run club. No, they traded a Louisa Rias in May. Yeah. First week of May I went? We're waving the white flag. We're done. No one does that better than the Marlins, by the way. Wave the white flag. Here's a World Series Championship. Wave the white flag. No consistency with the franchise. However, I'll say this though. I'll say this. The difference between the White Sox and the Marlins in this regard is that the Marlins, at least they have had spells, well, they've built it up to be a World Series Championship. I've seen more World Series championships with Miami than I have with the White Sox. Correct. But if he's really good and he hits the market, you're telling me that there's not one big spending team that says, hang on a second, he's not going to the White Sox. Here you go. Here's five million a year. If Schumacher was the manager of the Chicago White Sox today, he would be yet another boob with a socks cap on his head because he'd be fired in two years or three years. He would. He would because a team is that ready to win yet. It would beat him down. Why would he take that job because he's friends with Tony? That's fine. Hold on a second now. I'm just saying it's the same job though, Shay. No, I'm not disagreeing, but one of the guys he's closest with in the league is in the front office here. Correct. But you're telling me that the sock, he's going to take less money to go to the White Sox because I can damn well promise you they're not going to spend at the top of the market. They would never have done what Jed did to go get counsel eight million a year, the highest pay manager in the history of the sport. So you don't think the White Sox would be competitive money wise? If he had all their options, no. And my point is if he's that good, no one else is going to want him that spends how Milwaukee was offering five million to keep counsel. So you're telling me there's no other team out there that's going to pay for a quality manager? I don't buy it. I don't buy it. I was going to circle St. Louis, but they've turned things around. Looks like Marmal safe for now. Right. Because that was going to be the plum job, right? The way that they were playing early, right? Oliver Iberflus is starting to study himself. It's a turn around up there. It's like coach Iberflus has kind of studied the ship right now. Thanks to the Cubs. Cubs help that cause. No question about it. Just says I thought that that would be the job that would be open by now. This is a massive week for the Cubs because if you stub your toe in San Francisco, lose three or four and then you're going to Milwaukee, what if you get swept in Milwaukee? What are you going to be? 80 billion out? The Cubs will be fine at San Francisco. San Francisco is not a very good team, but they just took two or three here tonight. Two, one, two out of three against San Francisco. Yeah, I came running. Days run together. Yeah. No, I think I think that series will be fine. I think the Cubs will find a way in San Francisco. If the picture you just painted plays out and they lose six the next seven seasons probably about over here. Shay Norley. Okay. Evan Cohen this morning on on sportsman like had an interesting conversation about the greatest sports collapses. He refused to believe that the Florida Panthers blowing a three O lead would be the biggest collapse in American sports history. I didn't realize people were saying this. There's a whole piece in the athletic about how it would be. And I looked into some of the history. The only time a three O lead has been blown in a championship round in American sports history was the 1942 Stanley Cup final unique for a couple reasons. One, it was World War II. Many of the best players were literally at war overseas fighting for their country to the NHL only had seven teams six of them made the playoffs and the playoff format was bizarre. The one and two seed faced each other in the opening round of the playoffs. It allowed the fifth seed red wings who were under 500 to make the Stanley Cup final. They got out to a three nothing lead and blew it. So my question shot or no shot the Florida Panthers blowing a three O lead in the Stanley Cup final would be the biggest collapse in American sports history. No shot. What is the Yankees blowing a three O lead to Boston was wasn't a championship. He said he's talking about four further stakes with everything on the line championship. That was a huge collapse. There's no question massive Yankees red talks. But again, he's talking about in that championship scenario. Is it the greatest collapse? First of all, I think Edmonton is the better team. I do they they have the best player in the game that guy is the best player on the planet and one of the five best hockey players I've ever watched. McDavid. He's insane. Conor McDavid. Conor McDavid. You'd be you'd have to put him in the top five now, even though we grew up watching the Edmonton Oilers and the Gretzky's and the Yari Curry's and, you know, those those great Edmonton Euler teams. You have to put him in that conversation. Mark Messier, you have to put him in that conversation now. I'm Conor McDavid. He's insane. Top four. I'm talking about Euler's absolutely insane how good that guy is. I'd have to go go back and really research all the great collapses in championship round history. Well, yeah, I'm not limiting it's just that. But for me, like red Sox Yankees wasn't a championship. There's had to be something after to finish the story. Yeah, that was the analysis collapse, but this is the Stanley Cup final. You blow a three O lead in the cup final. That's brutal. This is like 28 to three. This is like the 73 and nine warriors blowing three one to LeBron, the 16 and L Patriots losing in the Super Bowl. They lost to a nine and seven Giants teams and that jack alone in there is telling me they're one of the best football teams ever. No, it was a huge. They were 14 and a half point favorites. They scored 14 points. That's an enormous collapse. Yes. This is not the worst collapse. First of all, again, I believe Edmonton's a better team. They have the best player. So yeah, no, this is not the biggest collapse in American sports history or North America. Yeah. So that's a no shot. I agree with that. And we just laid out a couple. I think that's a really good example. As a matter of fact, I can make the case for the Patriots. I'm trying to think of my lifetime. I think that that might be the word in that scenario, championship on the line. Yeah. Undefeated team losing like that to that giant team. Yeah. You lie hand. I put Eli Manning in the Hall of Fame. No question about it. What's the bigger collapse that Patriots team losing to the Giants or the Falcons blow in 28 to 3 in about 17 minutes? Oh, no, the Falcons not even close. Not even close. The bigger collapse. The Falcons is not the biggest collapse. They hit a 25 point lead with 17 minutes left in the game. Okay. Then the music city miracle, they were up 38 to 3. Having lost the Buffalo ice. Yep. Yeah. That's way bigger. No. For me, it's the 17 and all or 16 and all whatever they were Patriots 18 and all. That was the Super Bowl either the music city miracle was a playoff game for one, the Super Bowl. Yeah, the biggest games. That's what he's talking about. Go Patriots collapse. That's not not getting it done when they were undefeated. That's fair. All right. Coming up. We have around the NFL. Don't forget Jesse Rogers. The documentarian of our time. Jesse Rogers. He was really good last night. We will angry with him, but don't be mad at him, man. Well, he did a great job on the documentary, but he put this vanilla Cubs thing together. He was right there. Oh, okay. All right. Well, you're from Jesse. Come here at 835. I'm not a football player. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love when he starts to come any more. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? It's time to go around the NFL right here on cap and Jhood on ESPN 1000. We'll hear from Jesse Rogers coming up at 835 around the NFL with Shane Orling Shay. I was looking forward to this piece from Sports Illustrated 100 bold predictions for the 2024 NFL season, what 100 bold predictions, a lot of yellow pet I gotta use here. So let me get a fresh pay. Don't worry. We're not going through all 100 of them. We're not. Some of them are goofy like Roger Goodell will write a well received novel under a pen name, a romantic fiction, Roger Goodell is getting into smart under a pseudonym. No shot. Yeah. James Skinner would not allow that or your family cat will die peacefully of old age during the third quarter of a week 13 game between the Titans and commanders. That's a shot. It's not sure. Boy, I tell you what, I know you love the NFL, Shay, and I think cap is with me. I think he's with me on this. There's nothing like the Arizona Cardinals 325 game or a nice little nap. You're not. No, we've talked about this before a little, a little yes hoodie doesn't always listen to me, but he'll remember this one. I called you on a Sunday afternoon after the bear game to go over a couple of things from a noon bear game. Yes. And then you said, are you watching the afternoon games that I said Brett and I are going to take in the app, the Arizona Cardinals. That was the only game that was on the main channel. Yes. We had the red zone going and we both passed out. That did like a home game for Arizona. Yes. No atmosphere. Chris Myers on the call. Right. And it's like the Raiders and Arizona Seahawks and Arizona. Good night, everybody. I'm gone. So long, Shay, Chris Myers is out there. I can't stay up. All right. So we're going to bring shot or no shot to around the NFL. I have a grouping, a selection, if you will, a menu of these bold predictions. I'm going to offer them to you, shot or no shot. The Detroit Lions will win Super Bowl 59 over the Cincinnati Bengals. That's a shot. That is an absolute shot. Detroit, as Coach Dica would call them, remember he'd call them Detroit. Detroit, yeah. Yeah. Not Detroit. Detroit is really, really good. And the Bengals, they're loaded up for this year because they're going to lose T Higgins and they're getting their guy Joe Burrow back. So yeah, that's an absolute shot. I think half of that is a shot with Cincinnati. I see Detroit taking a little bit of a step back. I don't see them in that stratosphere because usually this is how it works. You don't know where here you come. There might be injuries and that rooting for them to say this is how it works in sports. You take a step back and then you move two steps forward because you added on what you needed. So I think half of that is a shot with Cincinnati. Yeah, it's no shot for me with the Lions too. It's hard to go from being the hunter to the hunted. It's totally different mindset. Harder schedule. You'll get everybody's best punch. I think they take a step back as well. Shot or no shot, seven head coaches will be fired at the end of the NFL season. Oh, man. Wow. Seven more. OK. We're averaging about seven a season, but it's starting to pop up. Well, that's a no shot. That's a no shot seven. OK. Carolina. No, they just fired their guy. This will be already have two and two years. Notably, patient organization. Who's their head coach? I like that dude from Tampa. Lucan Ellis. Not bad. Lose a good coach. Jets. Yes. Buffalo bills. If they have a rough year, he could get fired. OK. They had to get rid of like 80 guys off the roster because of salary issues. Jets. OK. The dolphins are not going to fire Mike McDaniel. The Jets could absolutely fire. Salah. I got one. That's my one on the wall. He's getting canned. Below the Jets, keep going north. If Cleveland with all that talent doesn't make it's the fans he gets whacked to anything short of two super bowl. I'm sorry. Anything short of two playoff appearances, he's fired. Sorry. I mean, you get there just getting into the second level is not good enough for a Cleveland. OK. So I have three potentials. Houston's not firing their guy. Jacksonville's not firing their guy. Careful. Now. P could see his way out of there. If you're not in it again, that's not going to get it done and and Trevor's on the line. OK. OK. Yeah, he signed. That's four. Uh, Indy, they Shane Steichen, could he get whacked? I don't think so. Nope. Too early. That's four. Tennessee just hired a new guy. No. The Chiefs aren't getting rid of Andy. Nope. Uh, the Raiders. Nope. Nope. The Broncos. Nope. The Chargers just hired their guy. So we're at four. They're always absolutely that's in play. They will probably happen. But that may not be a firing could be a mutual parting of ways with Mike McCarthy. Yeah. Supposedly he's getting tired of Jerry's meddling. That's five Philadelphia. If they don't have a good year, he could get whacked. Will get whacked. OK. That's six. Deball. There's another one. That's seven. He will be fired. Washington just changed coaches. Detroit. No. Green Bay. No. Minnesota. They have a bad year. Possibly. Absolutely in play. That's eight. Tampa Bay. Absolutely could whack Todd Bowles. OK. That's nine. New Orleans. They could absolutely whack Dennis Allen. They showed him last year. That's 10. Atlanta just changed. Carolina just changed again. They're not firing Shanny. The Rams. He's not going anywhere unless he retired. Seattle. They just changed. Arizona. They would have to be really bad. They'd have to be. Good clip. So how many are we at 10 or 11? We all have in potentials. Yeah. So there's absolutely seven could change. It's like six or seven now. It's crazy. Uh, Shay. Jayden Daniels will win offensive rookie of the year. No shot. Yeah. Thank you. Next one. Justin Fields will score at least five touchdowns as a non-quarterback. No shot. No shot. Ooh, I think that's a shot. On under maybe a few, but not five. All right. Joe Burrow will win league MVP. Shot. Wow. They have the city's head. Look. They got the best coach. They got the best quarterback. They get the best tight end. They got so many problems off the field. So many. Josh Allen would like to have a word. He could get there. He's working with nothing now, too. Ah, Jaymore. There we are. Give me another one, please. This one's probably my favorite. Jerry Jones will say something memorably stupid about not paying his young star players similar to his Zeke who joke during the Ezekiel Elliott negotiations. That's a shot. It's Jerry Jones. He's got his own radio show. He just says anything. He does. And nobody. Yes. Answer. No, because he's the GM. My title and the owner. He's got enough shots at it to be able to say something like that. This net is his own radio show and his back against the cold white wall after games. Correct. He speaks before the coach does. Imagine if George did that. Oh, God. I think we were underachievers today. I didn't like the running. Could you imagine? Could you imagine McCasky with the wispy mustache against the wall after a game? I think we should run the football more. I always thought that. We've talked about this in the meetings. George? Who asked you? Go get your step. Remember when Jerry rolled out AI, Jerry Jones to answer reporter questions last year? He's addicted to doing things that are memorably stupid. Yes. He's a showman before he's an owner. He's a showman before he's a GM. He is just that who he is. I was always very leery about the right side of the defensive line. We should have spent money there. I gave him full autonomy. That stinks. Can you imagine George liking three years with a Kaleb who when they're doing contract negotiations? Oh man. And that is our looks around the NFL right here on cap and Jhood coming up next Jesse Rogers with the latest on the Cubs and Sox everything else MLB on cap and Jhood. Here's to Dave's headline headline with cap and Jhood. Brought to you by the village of bowling broke home to the 2024 live golf individual championships at the beautiful bowling broke golf club Cubs fell the four below 500 yesterday with a five to lost to the Mets and saw them shut out for the first six by Luis Severino who was outstanding Javier Assad hoodies guy would like to call got tagged for four runs in four and two thirds innings as the Cubs lose the series two of three. I am good good morning it was a late night at Riggly it's sad that the best part of the night was between three and six in the afternoon when they unveiled that statue because everything that happened after that another bad night for the Cubs Jesse I said this to my dear friend Jonathan it's the most boring freakin everyday team I love steel and Menaga's entertaining but the eight position players the fact that they are in year four of Jed's tenure yeah and they don't have one guy where you go hey hold on a second so and so is batting there's not one I don't hear any outrage I hear it's June I see guys with no fire no passion not saying they they're jakin it they go out and play hard that team is poorly constructed and they got a big problem on their hands yeah I heard you talking earlier so I don't disagree with you but we have to agree that none of us thought and I'll use the word you used earlier in the show that this was a lousy roster back in in February and March we did not think this was a lousy roster back then what we thought was it was a roster that could at least contend for a playoff position maybe even the division and it's turning out not to be and I'll tell you why and I should have stayed on this sort of theme that I've been on for over a year and it it hits on what you just said that it is a team void of stars and what happens when you are a team void of stars is the variance in play is greater in other words you can finish sixth and scoring as they did last year and then drop all the way down in the 20s as they are this year because you don't have middle of the order stars to kind of bring you out of slumps to kind of steady the ship and you're exactly right it's it's eight individuals out there that just don't move the meter enough and once in a while you can get a team of those guys and do really well and they kind of did that last year but in general you need star players and you're right this is where Jed and Tom have come up short last thing on this like the the real trick they pulled off in spring training to fans in my opinion were two was twofold in the offseason convincing everyone that resigning Belanger was some sort of amazing thing instead of just getting you back to what you were last year the other thing was selling the fact that Craig council would fix everything on the margins that he would squeeze more out of less and win those games David Ross wasn't able to win neither of those things were are really true the difference between Ross and council even I'm learning that is minuscule just like it is with most managers and the fact of matter is that resigning Belanger just got you back to where you were last year see as I've been saying since the beginning of the season Jesse I equate the Cubs to the Bears when polls took over pretty much like what a three win team and we kept talking about is hey the Bears don't have enough talent to be able to win those that thought they were a 10 11 win ball club we did not see that because you can't win without talent and the same thing here with the Cubs if the Cubs were error free solid defensively kept the line moving on base percentage wise had good enough pitching you'd hang in there but you're still not world series worthy that's the whole point of this when you look at this roster this roster still could get to the playoffs is if you add on but the point is though is that if you don't have enough talent you're not going to get to where you need to be but you know who also believes that Jed because Jed told that told cap and I that on opening day he said that we're not where we want to be yet and that's a hell of a time to say that when you paid through the nose for Craig council I thought you were trying to win now apparently that's not the goal yeah I you know and he's talked about you're we're not the Braves the Phillies just yet that takes multiple off seasons but we're not asking for that right we're asking for an above 500 team to compete in kind of an easy division in a lot of ways I mean Milwaukee has been Grammy think about this you know again the Cubs in the Sox third rated market going against against the 30th rated market in the Brewers and like the 25th rated market in the Cleveland Guardians and in year in and year out those organizations are better they're better on the margins they're better at the little things because they can't out spend the Cubs or the Sox even though the Sox choose not to spend it's like really amazing how these smaller organizations can get it done you know other than the 15 16 and 17 in a lot of ways like the Cubs have been beaten up by smaller markets I mean certainly the Cardinals over the years but definitely the Brewers in the last seven or eight years and a lot of us thought it was Craig council related turns out it's organizational related not just Craig council so 37 and 41 is just disastrous to be honest it really is in that division it's it's it really is as bad a scenario as you could imagine for the Cubs this year okay so just when they're not gonna let jet go into the final year of his deal as a lame duck I don't think I don't think that's advisable at this point if this team does not turn around and does not make the playoffs do they let a desperate man because that's what he'd be like Ryan Pace was overpay to try and save his gig or do they extend him or does time do the unthinkable go you know what I appreciate the efforts I'm changing the the leadership so I don't think he would change after this year and I'll tell you why I think Jed has been selling the idea of as soon as this farm system is ready to rock and roll so will we and it's getting close apparently it's not ready to bring up Owen Casey and these guys I feel like they should give him a shot I think we've talked about that what about can you know if you can't play then just what are we doing here so either a couple of those guys are gonna be traded over the next let's just say 12 months or they're gonna be given a chance to actually play I mean Pete Crow is finally getting that chance so my point is I think next year really is the okay you better be bad only for that division or it's over if for jet I mean I think that like how many years can you give a guy to cook the farm systems fine you know he's been given enough money I so I think he might let him go lame duck I said this to you guys before lame duck executive is a lot different than lame duck manager it really is you know the players can can see through a lame duck manager and and and and the lack of faith ownership might have in that manager or the or front office might have but I'm not sure that the players care if the if the GM is lame duck now maybe the people working under Jed might care you know the scouts and stuff I don't know I we haven't seen Rick it's operating this manner with a guy on the on the chopping block so to speak so I agree with you the pressure will absolutely 100% be on jet next year if it isn't this year but if they finish under 500 I think I don't know all bets are off the table I guess anything could happen I don't expect the firing though I don't why did council allow Imanaga to wear it on Friday the way he did that's three innings pitch 11 hits 10 runs all earned and surrendered three home runs why do you allow it's only been a couple of times where Imanaga has not pitched well and give up a ton of runs why didn't why did he wear it Friday I guess because look at all those pictures going down and if they're gonna you know pull a guy after an inning or two it's really gonna hurt your bullpen they don't have off days I mean this week is tough they west late game last night west coast trip no day off for games no day off fly right to Milwaukee three games there I mean I can't answer that completely but I want to answer a different question for you Jay hook what about the one I asked you got the damage what about what about when I just I don't I just because you don't want to pull a guy after an inning I get a couple innings and just to just to hurt the bullpen but the bigger question is a guy like Imanaga you know he's he's smart all these things he's not able to keep his team in the game when he doesn't have it this is the concern of Imanaga like it was three one after the first inning like they're in the game but then it's six to one and then it's ten to one whatever the score was like he's got to keep his team in the game when he doesn't have his best stuff it's really worrisome just the second time facing the met you know the first time facing a team for the second time this season he gets completely rocked I heard someone tell you know someone told me that you know was he tipping his pitches he only has two pitches that he's throwing these days so if he's tipping one that he's really tipping both because you know what I mean if they don't see the fastball coming they must know the split is coming so I don't like the fact that he didn't keep them in the game after a poor first or second inning there that's something he's got to learn so the whole day was bad you know it's the first day we heard booze this year at Wrigley Field didn't hear him last night but heard him Friday and I don't know maybe we'll hear more of them as this goes along because it's just it's really bad right now I mean they're not playing well at home either when that was something they did early in the season alright Jesse hang on we've got more to ask you hoodies never asked this but in socks no tune in we'll be right back to Jesse Rogers that's enough follow Chicago's home for sports on twitch at ESPN 1000 Chicago Jeff and Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago Jesse Rogers brought to you by West Coast Men's Health helping men overcome ED and chronic pain for over five years go to West Coast Men's Health dot com Jesse this White Sox thing isn't getting better anytime soon we've got 21 wins right now any sax news you know we can talk about Nightingale's reporting there you know he's pretty tied in with Jerry Ryan storefront here's a name drop I had dinner with the Sunday night crew at Chicago cut Saturday you know at water Perez and who's very close to Pedro Grafalle and those guys and like we all agreed there's going to be a change at the end of the year like that is not the shock it's just where does Chris Scott's go and Skip Schumacher is a pretty good choice I know Skip a little bit if he was to move on from the Marlins but I don't doubt Tony LaRouce is involved I've seen LaRouce at the park a lot he's definitely involved in the behind the scenes I told you guys this many times Jerry believes to this day that that that was the right hiring and the team probably would be better if he didn't have to step down because of health issues so Tony is definitely involved in the decision making and the talk around baseball is they will make a change at the end of the year okay so let me ask you this I asked hoodie this why would Skip Schumacher take that job when they a have never paid at the top of the scale ever so if he's the reigning nationally manager of the year he's with a crappy Marlins organization who fired their general manager who helped them get there and Kim Ng and now they're horrible why if he's that good and you're gonna have eight jobs every year open why would he take the socks job not saying he would absolutely that's a great point if he's got choices he probably would not I have no idea if he'll have many choices or not I mean we just don't know but yes I don't think the socks job is absolutely the top I mean you'd want a five year deal considering the way it gets a strip in this roster down and he's not even close to being done yet so you'd want some security I don't disagree with you cap I mean you may not get it are the reigning manager of the year if other teams are lining up okay here's my other question here's my other question yeah you just said to me and hoodie that Jerry believes that Tony hadn't gotten sick he was the right hire yep okay then if that's true let's on its surface take that as a true statement that means that the roster that was handed to Pedro or fall they internally believe was good enough to win with and it is the worst team maybe in the history of baseball which is even more indicting that they should fire his ass immediately and go we made a bad hire but they don't want to eat whatever's left on the deal 900 grand a million we just saw the owner of the Pistons eat 65 million to get a guy out after one year what are we doing here yeah I mean he's babysitting this year and that's why that meltdown he did was was really poor I mean it just was and I said I've reported to you if he has another one like that I think Chris gets would pull the trigger but you know there are some advancements with some guys you know the young players aren't like being ruined right now it doesn't feel that way like crochets had a good start fed a new guy coming in so I think they're just willing to write it out I don't I don't think they care as long as he's he's babysitting and just keeping the ship afloat and for a moment he wasn't like there was a moment there it wasn't with that with that that tirade so I can't answer cap except they just don't care about the standings as long as players aren't turning on themselves turning on each other and things like that I think it survives here but I agree with you like they're gonna move on so whenever they do what they do it Jesse out of all the things if you've done in your career where do you place being the voice of Ryan Sandberg on baseball tonight amongst them yeah it's it's up there it's up there because it's like your your whole life and career comes full circle I remember I mentioned this to Carmen your goal last week I remember where I was for that game like I mean and I was just in my house but you know I mean I remember the moment I remember being on the couch remember scream and remember jumping up and then he hits the second home run so it's one of those memories memories that I don't think I'll ever forget and to be able 40 years later to voice that for baseball tonight was really special you know I got to say they've done a great job outside there at Gallagher way I mean that used to be our parking place for reporters so you know now we have to walk like a half a mile or whatever it is so like we could complain about all that stuff but they've done well with the statues and the monuments everything else outside of Wrigley I think fans should be proud of that and that ceremony was really good top-notch Larry Boas Sean Dunston Bob Costas there it was just a great afternoon and and and being able to do that for baseball tonight was really special because that Ryan Sandberg was a childhood hero he was a childhood hero so that was really cool it was an awesome job Jesse just so you know from friend to friend let me just tell you that just awesome I'm the happy for you that you're able to do that so and that narration of the documentary type thing that hoodie's referring to Jesse I had a tear in my eye watching that thing my wife said the same thing and she's not a baseball fan so I appreciate that it was was really special I mean I asked Ryan Oh after the ceremony like you know I wanted to put it the right way like were you worried you'd even make it here meaning healthy enough to do it I'm not saying anything worse like if he's going through chemo could he could even and he's like this I attacked it like I attacked my my career I just said I'm gonna it's a guarantee I'm gonna make it here I'm gonna beat this thing in time and he did you know he was just declared cancer free a month ago so from start to finish it was a great afternoon what's weird guy is weird what's weird guys is you know Cubs ownership over the years they they didn't recognize anything of the past right it took Tom Ricketts to do this I mean 40 years later they're catching up on these guys Fergie Jenkins and Ryan Samberg this is stuff that should be done 10 years 20 years after you retire but there was Cubs ownership was so bad for so long I give Ricketts credit and his speech was excellent as by the way yes yeah all of them were I love seeing Larry Larry Bowen Sean Dunstan there his two short stops it was great it was a great afternoon unfortunately they had to play the game Jesse as always we appreciate the time it's so good to know that you're off the Xanax after doing that read his fundamental thing is really working exactly thank you guys I love you the great Jesse Rogers alright coming up next the next great sports rivalry question mark we'll explain that in two minutes on cap and Jhood
