(upbeat music) - Good morning, Chicago. And welcome in to the Cap and Jhood Morning Show, on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With the fastest man from Northbrook, Jesse Rogers and for Cap, I'm Jhood. We got Charlie, we got Jay Moore, we got you. Here on this Friday morning, here's hoping that you can have a great weekend. 3-1-2-3-3-2 ESPN. Don't forget to watch us on YouTube as well. YouTube.com, make sure you hit that subscribe button. Also, on Twitch, Twitch.tv/ESP1000Chicago. Now, still to come, we've got a wheel of topics where I plug up the wheel and spin it for Jesse. And also, we've got the Friday folder at 935. But our top story is talking about the Chicago Bulls. They made a trade yesterday for the first time since August of 2021. Actual bodies were traded. So you have Als Caruso going to Oklahoma City and Josh Giddy coming to the Bulls. The Bulls, we're not going to sign Als Caruso to a four-year $80 million extension that wasn't going to happen. The Bulls could have gotten one of the 8,000 Oklahoma City draft picks that they have. And they chose not to, which is just a bad deal to me. Also, we're wondering, is Giddy the replacement for Lonzo Ball? The pick of Giddy tells me that that'll be all for Lonzo Ball. Because they're kind of the same player as far as the way they can-- they're long and they distribute the basketball. He's 21 years of age is Giddy. And I think he could get better with Billy Donovan. But he's not a difference making player just yet. Caruso, you're missing your heart and soul of the team. He shot 40% from three. And of course, his defense is stellar, perimeter defense. And here's a guy here that says, all right, me and Kevin Durant, I got him. Caruso, get out of there. Nope, me and him on the perimeter. Let's go. He's that guy. And that's the kind of guy that you like in your team. I like the trade. I like getting nine years younger. I like higher ceiling for a Bulls player, finally. You know, Caruso brings something to the table, certainly more suited for a championship contender. So I like the deal. It's now time for the Bulls to bring out the best in Giddy. And that's where coaching and your teammates can come into play. I don't know if the Bulls can do it. But at least they have a talent with a higher ceiling at this point. Charlie Bevins, can you please check the poll question that you put up? Addie has been 1,000 and give us the results so far. Because we asked the question about the Giddy trade as far as gradient. It is 33% F, which is the leader in the clubhouse. 20 HD, 25C, 12% B. And I did not include an A because I didn't have enough room. And I figured there's going to be no A's on there. Oh my god. That F is a result of the lack of goodwill this Bulls front office has accumulated. That is not on the trade itself. The trade is not an F on a surface. It is not. It's not going to be a D. It's not an F. OK, also, I'd like you for you to put on the poll. Addie has been 1,000, Charlie. Ash Chicagoans is a sun shining. Yes or no? Exactly. And see how that comes back. See if the Russian bots get in on that. So Jesse, is the sun shining? Yes or no? The reply, guys. OK, let's just-- I'm just saying. I want to see how many people would say with the sun shining on a one day than the sun shining. Yeah. See people, how many people disagree with that? So Jesse, you have a question for some fans. Yes, I do. Just for Cup fans, but I'm going to start with you, J-hood. But 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6, as we discussed this topic. I'm going to give you one of those player A and player B situation. Oh, so this is blind resume. Yes, blind resume. I'm only going to get a few stats. I won't inundate you with stuff. OK. Let's start with the younger player. A, is this A or B? Player A, 26 years old. Yeah. 9 home runs, a 266 batting average, a 360 on base. And I used a WRC+ that's weighted runs created plus. It's kind of an over offensive stat. Thank you, Brian Kelly. Yeah, 134, 134, the higher the number, the better for our WRC+. OK. So again, 26 years old, 9 home runs, 266, 360 on base, 134. OK. Player B. B. 29 years old. 29. 16 home runs, 243 average, 321 on base, WRC+ of 128. So that final number is similar, but a little bit lower. OK. These are Cubs. Well, it's Cup related. Cup related. OK. I can guess who these are, I think. You want to guess? A feels like Ian Hap. But I could be wrong. That's a good guess. Yeah, it feels like Ian Hap. Charlie, who would it say feel like to you? It feels like Vlad Jr. No. No. No. A is a Cub. A is a Cub. It's Michael Bush. No kidding. Michael Bush. Had 9 homers? 9 homers. OK. Remember, you had 5 in a row in April. WRC+ 134 is OPS on base, plus slugging, over 800 now. It just went over 800. So who's Player B? Now, Michael Bush, 26-year-old rookie, making nothing. After Bush, after Bush. Who's Player B? 29 years old, 16 home runs, 243, 321 only on base. Is that flat? But WRC+ is close. Is that flat? No, I'll give you-- it's more timely. It's a more timely person. I was thinking this was Vlad Jr. and Peter Lanzo. There you go. Peter Lanzo will be. It's Peter Lanzo. No kidding. Who's in town? Peter Lanzo in town. A guy that I thought the Cubs had a chance to go after. I advocate for it. They still could. But Michael Bush, the whole point of this exercise is that Michael Bush is quietly having a decent season. And when you say for a rookie, it's even better. He's got the second highest OPS among rookies right now. And that includes a slump. And there's going to be another slump. Includes a may slump, I was going to say. There'll be more slumps. He's a rookie. But that is not so bad. A 360 on base. Small sample size, too, because he doesn't play every day. Doesn't play every day, but he's played mostly. I don't have the bats in front of me. He's played mostly. But Peter Lanzo is going to be a free agent. It's going to be 30 years old. He's got to demand 20 million a year. Here's the difference, though. Michael Bush will never out-homer Alonzo. Alonzo's a true slugger that can put fear in the opposing pitcher. I'm not sure Michael Bush has that cache. Bush with 207 at bats this year. What does Alonzo have? I mean, he plays every day. Yeah, and the 69 games played nice for Bush. Yeah, so they're taking care of Bush a little bit. He won't play against the tougher lefties. So every numbers are always skewed. I'm just wondering if keeping him and developing him at a cheaper price as long as you spend that money elsewhere, maybe that's a good thing for the Cubs. Or maybe I'm being foolish and being like, you know what? That's a power position. You need 40 home run potential at that position. OK, so Bush has the second best war on the Cubs at 1.7. Ian Hap is 1.8. And Ian Hap just got hot. He just got hot. They both kind of gotten hot. But it is interesting. I mean, Alonzo's going to be 30. OK, so let's get into this then. With the Mets in town, the Mets are underachievers. OK, they're not very good. OK, the Mets are OK. So the Mets are in town. OK, so I still go with the Theo theory of age. Unless you think you're ready to win, you feel like if I assign Alonzo, that means we're going to get a deep run to playoffs that I'm all for it. But the Cubs are not there yet. Do you know that to me, just from the eye test, the bushes, the haps, the talkmans, the Swanson's, they all seem the same to me. It's a great point. I tell Kap all the time I said, the Cubs are beige. It's not anything where it's like-- because you and I watch a lot of baseball. And we know stars when we see them. It's one of the few times where the Cubs have a huge payroll without a star on it. Without a legit star. What I'm saying is that when you have Michael Bush on the team, Michael Bush, I like him for his potential. He could be out there every day. But that's not how counsel works, though. Because he got to get the talkmans, and he got to get the morels, and all these guys got to play. At some point, Pete Crow's got to play every day of you. You want to find out who he is, same thing with Bush? Well, it's interesting, because talkman just got hurt. The next month is basically going to be the same eight guys. It's going to basically be the same eight guys. So Bush is going to get a lot of playing time right now. But it is an interesting debate. Alonzo has more stardom written on him. Bush might be better, more productive at the end of the day. This is why sometimes playing with numbers and not just being nerdy with them is interesting. There's a 360 on base is pretty good. Getting on base is the goal anytime you come to the plate. That's 40 points higher than Alonzo. But Bush will never hit more home runs than Alonzo. And home runs bring fear to the opposing pitcher. Charlie Bevin. Is it unfair, Jesse, to just to look at his stats since he went on that streak? So since then-- so you're basically like I'm crossing out his first 16 appearances. I don't know if that's unfair or not-- What do you mean 16 appearances? What are you talking about? I'm basically just going off of-- since his Homer's streak ended-- Oh, OK. His slash-- he has three home runs. Right. He's batting 245, 343 on base. So it does seem like a lot. I couldn't find the advance metrics to go look more. Like wait a minute, it's great, plus. But is it unfair, or do you think, in your opinion, you have to include, like that's part of the story? No, the bigger the sample size, the better. Because here's the other thing. If you want to go small sample sizes, you could go smaller, like in June, and the numbers are good. So yeah, since the streak, he hasn't been as good as the streak. But he's actually recovered lately. And this is what rookies do, though. So that's why the big sample size is more telling. The season, he has a higher WRC+, than Alonso. But he has seven less home runs. And home runs are impactful. They impact the pitcher and how he throws to you. And your other teammates-- it's an interesting debate. And then there's the money debate. If you guarantee me, they will take Alonso's money and spend it elsewhere than I might before keeping Bush. OK. So here's what it is, Jesse. Because the Cubs are so ordinary to me-- Yeah. And that's not being harsh. I'm just saying, but for the money you spent, you should be able to have a couple of stars or difference makers to say, if we struggle, put it on my back for two or three weeks. Put it on my back while I'll carry you. You don't have that on this Cubs team. Alonso would be perfect if you felt like you're ready to make a move. But they're not ready to make a move. Alonso could have 30 home runs. And yet the Cubs could win 80-some games and maybe make the playoffs. Maybe you have pushes you through. But you're not sustainable with just Alonso as your centerpiece. Well, you've got to start with one star. If you consider him a star, you've got to start somewhere. He's going to be a free agent. But he's 30. He's 30. That's the theme rule. Most free agents are around 30, 28, 29, 30. I feel like this is why it's a good topic. Because I've been advocating for stars for a while. I've been advocating-- stars bring you less variance in your offensive output. This is why the fact that they don't have stars is the reason they can be sixth in scoring last year and drop by or run this year. Because there's just so much variance. You don't have the middle of the order to sustain you while other guys are more volatile. But having said that, there's something to the numbers I just gave you in three years younger. I don't know what the right answer is. I'm opening up to Cubs fans. 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6. I would just say that looking at this team, the team needs an infusion of offensive talent. Now, Kav keeps telling me about arms. And yeah, yeah, both men sucks. Chicago, White Sox, and Chicago Cubs, the both men's terrible. However, you've got to be able to look at your offense and say, where does the offense come from? Does that come from Swanson? Is that coming from Morel? Is that coming from Nico Horner? You've got to be able to have several guys you could depend on. I like Suzuki like the next guy. But is that the guy that can carry you through July? To make sure that you're solidified in a playoff spot? I don't know. And the answer is, is that no? Is I don't know? And I'd just like to know if the threat, if the home run threat impacts an opposing pitcher as much as a guy with a higher on base does. Because there's something to that. When Michael Bush walks up to the plate, it's got to be a different feeling than Peter Lanzo walks up the plate. Oh yeah, you know. Not an opposing pitcher. But is the feeling better than the actual numbers? Is that fear that you put it? You know what I mean? Because ultimately, Bush is going to have a higher on base, higher this, higher that. He's just not going to have a higher home run total. All right, coming up next, Jesse, we'll tell you where he's going to be on Sunday as the Cubs take on the Mets. I got the Mets. The loss of the Rangers yesterday. OK, not very good. They're at 35. They're at 35. 35 is 38. OK, not very good. OK, all the money city feels sold out. OK, no one's watching. OK, no one's watching. The Yankees are better. OK, fall asleep. You fall asleep. What is this on topic? So we love topics for Jesse and your thoughts on the question that Jesse posed to you. Would you rather have on Captain J. Hood? Truth of the matter is, you're listening to Captain J. Hood on ESPN 1000, weekdays 7 to 10 AM. But it'll last a lifetime. It may only be three hours a day. But it'll last you a lifetime. Captain J. Hood on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with you till 10 o'clock. And then my green bird comes in at 10. Then we got a big, old announcement. Big announcement at noon on the Carmen and your co-show. Make sure you listen at noon and watch on Twitch. Twitch.tv/ESP and 1000 Chicago, also on YouTube. Then it's while on Sylvie 3 of 2/3 to 5 into White Sox baseball against the Tigers. Black and Abdullah, they're on. You can catch their podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. And of course, on YouTube as well. Look for Black and Abdullah on those platforms. OK, Jesse, you gave me a blind resume. We have questions for you. OK, baseball. Are you ready for this? Yeah, I'll wait. It's time to play Wheel on the Topics with Jesse Rogers. Hey, everybody. I hope it lands on something baseball-related. All right, Jesse, here we go. Here's Charlie Bevins, Charlie. Nice and easy world series prediction right now. I love all those game shows, by the way. We're the guys. The host comes out and doesn't get introduced first. Yeah, I think it's the first one. All right, this is the first one. The start of the show, Charlie Bevins. Oh, what was the question again? World Series prediction right now. Well, I'm going to take the easy route in the American League. I mean, the Yankees are doing what the Yankees are doing, and Garrett Cole just returned. As long as they're healthy, I'm going to pick the Yankees in the American League. I've always liked Brian Cashman. It just took a while to figure this team out completely, and the trade for Juan Soto did it for me on offense. So the Yankees in the American League, I'd love to pick an upset in the National League. I really would. Dodgers pitching still low shaky, Atlanta's hurt. Boy, Milwaukee's impressive. They just be so Milwaukee-like that they finally get to the World Series without counsel, right? The way Milwaukee's gone. I might go back to the well and say the Diamondbacks. Wow. I still like that team. You may like the Yankees, but Seattle's pitching is the best in baseball. They're not going to go into New York and beat them. Well, I'm just saying the offense is good. The offense is 25th to 26th, but the pitching is the best in the big leagues. I'm going to say the Diamondbacks have been laying in the weeds. I'm going to go Diamondbacks to return to the World Series against the Yankees. That's insane. I'm going to do it. All right, Jay Moore. Here we go. Wheel of topics. All right, Jesse Rogers. All right, where's the land on now? All right, Jesse. Carly, what does it say? You are in char-- you are Jed Heuer. You have three moves to fix the Cubs. What are you doing at this deadline? I'll rank them. I'll rank them. And even if I only had one move, it would be this. I would go trade for a closer. Kyle Finnegan of the Nationals is a good one. I assume the naps are going to sell, but I don't know that for sure, because the National League's crazy. You're not getting Mason Miller. Tanner Scott of the Marlins would be the other one. So Finnegan or Tanner Scott, you need a closer. End of story. If that was the only move I could do, it'd be that. The other thing would be on the margins to upgrade your catcher. If you can get Diaz, he's hurt now from the Rockies. Find better hitting catcher than you have, but that's a smaller move, in my opinion. I would probably add another bullpen arm as well. I can't give you a name. Another middle guy. Lefty or righty. So two bullpen arms. And if you can get a better hitting catcher, I would do that. I know they just picked up Thomas Needle, but he was just released, too. All right, we'll love topics. All right, Charlene. Round and round and go. All right, and what did it say? Will Pedro Graffal finish this season as White Sox manager? Yes, there's almost no doubt in my mind. And there's never been a doubt in my mind except when he went off on the team. And if he does that again, where it's in a really weird manner, then a different story. I don't think he's lost the room as much as you can keep the room when you're on pace for 120 losses. Like, I think it's OK in there. It certainly wasn't last year. More than likely he's gone. At the end of this year, I think he will survive the year unless some weird meltdown happens again. The whole Theref and Flat thing when a guy shoves like that was just out of line. So I'm going to say, yes, he survives. Charlene, can I spin it once? Of course. Let me give a try here because I keep going past this. One thing I want to get to, all right, there we go. OK, here we go. There it is right there. Jesse's plug, it says here. Jesse's plug. Yes. Which one? Well, it just says Jesse's plug, so you can do one here. Well, we'll only do one. I'm very proud of this because Ryan Samberg was a childhood hero of mine. So Sunday, it's a night game. They're unveiling the statue at 3 o'clock. Baseball tonight will be on from 5 to 6 central time. And yesterday, I was able to do a voiceover for a piece we're doing on Rhino. Usually, this is something Tim Kirchin would do. But they offered it to me because Rhino was a childhood hero of mine. I see him all the time in the ballpark. So it's just a two-minute voiceover of Ryan Samberg. Start with the statue all the way up to the cancer diagnosis and being cancer-free. And now the 40th anniversary of his best game. So they'll run it at about 5.30 on Sunday during baseball tonight, a little piece on Ryan Samberg. Did you take a gummy beforehand? Because with you, oh my god. Ryan Samberg was my guy. Gee, gee, gee, gee, look at me. I mean, that's full disclosure I called Timmy Kirchin. I said, how do you do these things? Because this isn't your normal-- Yes. --this is slow it down, Jesse. Yes. Hit the highlights because it's hard to do in 90 seconds to two minutes. Yes. And so Kirchin walked me through it, and I think I did a good job. I really need to hear this. So people, please watch. Just see Jesse with his actual blood pressure 120 over 80. I've known him for 25 years. I've never known him to be calm. In this moment, I was the slowest man in Northbrook. OK. Slow it down. OK. Try to emphasize the highlights, the trade, the statue, cancer diagnosis, and, of course, the 40th anniversary of the greatest game he's ever played. OK. I cannot wait to hear what that sounds like. He slowed down. What rule with reverence? You're going to be like, is that even Jesse? With reverence, Jesse Rogers. Oh, my God. Yeah. Ryan Sandberg. He was my hero. Cut. Do it again. [LAUGHTER] Bruce Sutter. They did say, move the mic away from your mouth. Take two. A little bit further away. OK. I got it. I got it. I got it. Here we go. Bruce Sutter. And a hot night. It's unbelievable. This guy. It's so good. No, no. Again, Jesse. Just bring it down a little bit. Yeah. All right. I'm ready. All right. Rhino. It's my guy. Dallas Green brings him over from the Phillies. Keith Moreland. It was Larry Boa. It was unbelievable. I mentioned in there, I used to imitate his stance as a kid. Yeah. And the producers like, can you get me a picture of that? Yeah. I'm like, oh, I got mom. Get in the yearbook there. We got to find one. We get it in the photo album. We got to find a picture of me looking like Ryan Sandberg. We'll see. We don't have one yet. [LAUGHTER] It's been a beautiful kid. I cannot wait for this. If it lands on another plug, I've got one. Oh, unfortunately, it did not. OK. Charlie, what does it say? It's asking you, Jesse, what is a bigger rivalry right now? Yankees Red Sox or Yankees Orioles? Yankees Orioles. Yankees Orioles. Well, tell us the latest. It had two really good teams. Now, a couple years in a row, I think it's Yankees Orioles. Yankees Red Sox has completely lost its luster. Stars and good teams make rivalries. These two teams have stars. They're both good. They're both fighting for the division. I saw someone tweet this out. There were tons of Yankee fans at Yankees Red Sox last week in Fenway. Yeah. That didn't happen back in the day. So I'm sorry. You have to be good and have stars. Boston has neither. It's neither. I'm wondering about the Beanball War between these two teams. Yeah. Because Gunnar Henderson got hit. I thought I was taking it yesterday. And I think Aaron Judge got hit. We got hit in the hands. Yes. All that's going to add up. They're bound to play a playoff series at some point against each other. It's going to be the rivalry for the next few years, in my opinion. I went to Yankees Red Sox on a Saturday at Yankee Stadium last August. Yeah. Bullring. Zero energy in the stadium. It was shocking, honestly. I know neither team was great last year. But come on. Did the overall cash? I don't even remember. Was it a high score? It was a bachelor party. So it's a little funny. I've heard this from other people going to Red Sox games. When you are void of stars, when the only thing you're decent at is maybe pitching. Like they're starting pitchings. Okay. It's just it's and everybody else in the division is better than you basically, except for maybe Tampa. That that's that's how you lose the lustre of a rivalry. I'll spin it. I'll spend it again, Jay Moore, since you were nice enough to bring the wheel out. Oh, Lance on caller. Thank God we have one. Tinley Park, John, is on Captain Jay. John, you have a question for Jesse. Yeah. Hey guys. Thanks for taking my call. So Jesse, I want to run an idea by you and see what your opinion is because I know you've really followed this cub team closely for years. Yeah. So when it was Jed and Theo, I'm going to lay out a list of names. So Heyward. Let's see. Heyward, Almora, Schwarber, Baez, Solaire. Not developing any pitching for a decade. Bryant, even to an extent. The list went on and on of players that the front office, which Jed was a part of, projected to reach XYZ potential and the players didn't reach it for whatever reason. And simultaneously during that era, especially post world series, there was always some issue of some position being neglected, whether it was lead off hitter, second base, closer, et cetera. Now fast forward and Jed Hoyer is fully in charge. And I'm seeing some of the same pattern. Tap, Suzuki, Bellinger, Mervis, the Hoyer and Madrigal trade for Kimbrell. And I could keep listing. I think you kind of see where I'm going. Are you seeing the same pattern of the projection falling short of what Jed or the front office in general projects these players to be? And I'm not panning out. Is there a scouting issue? Is there a talent evaluation issue? What's going on here? We got all these prospects. None of them can get called up for various reasons. I see them as almost excuses now. I'm not sure what to think about it. Well, let's talk about it. Yeah, you bring up some good points. I will say you could point to any organization and pick and choose some failures and use that as a theme. I mean, there were success stories, but I guess in terms of player development, I mean, Chris Bryant was kind of, you know, came ready, made. Schorber was a little bit ready, made. I'm going to talk about number one, picking the draft, fourth pick. But if you're talking about drafting and developing. Yeah, there's been some shortcomings. There's been some shortcomings. Now, in more recent times, they've done well on the mound. Justin Steele, home grown. You got to give them credit for Kyle Hendricks. They didn't draft him, but they developed him. He's been a cup for over 12 years. So I guess there are hits and misses. So you have to look at the big picture. And in this moment, no, it's not good enough. No, it's not. It's not good enough. But you can't downgrade what the last regime did. They won a World Series. So whenever misses, they had lots of teams miss. Okay, Brian Cashman misses. The Dodgers have missed. We could go through names. So it's really the overall product. The last regime succeeded. That's the bottom line. This regime has yet to succeed with jet in charge. It has yet to succeed. And you bring up some good points about sort of second tier offensive players instead of stars. Now, they think Owen Casey could be that guy. The Eudar Vishky, the key guy. And we'll see. But lack of, if you don't develop one, you better acquire one. So the caller brings up some good points. I don't know if we can just pick the failures and say, Theo's bad, Jed's bad. The Friday folders coming up next, as we just did. We love topics with Jesse Rogers. Right here on Chicago's Home for Sport. Here's to Dave's headline. headline with Captain Jay Hood. Go ahead. V.D.M.B.P. this season with catering, carryout and delivery, and Dine in. Loomell Naddies Chicago with legendary deep dish. With more, here's Charlie Bevins. Charlie? All right, boys. Let's dig into this folder. Maybe some sad news to start. Donald Sutherland died yesterday. Sorry about that. Yeah. 88 years old. He's been in a lot of stuff. I mean, I feel like the most recent thing that I saw him was the Hunger Games. But, yeah, 88 years old. What a career. I loved him in JFK. He was like the source, you know, in JFK, whatever you want to call it. Yes. Deep throat. Deep throat. Yeah. He was great. I mean, he was so many things, right? So many things. Okay. So, you know, National Lampoon's Animal House in '78. He was a natural. That's right. Invasion of the body snap. The Snatchers. Great movie. JFK mentioned '91. Oh, God. You mentioned Hunger Games, right, Charlie? Oh, yeah. Six degrees of separation. Dry white season is one of the great rules. And of course, the original on Mash, by the way. He was Trapper John in Mash. What a career for her guy. I mean, life well lived 88 years of age. Wow, it's a lot. So, rest in power. Donald Sutherland. Honey. Honey. We're watching the Donald Sutherland movie this weekend. Get ready. All right, Charlie. So, the Madden 25 trailer released yesterday and it begins with a very cinematic scene of a kick return for the Steelers. And who is returning the kick? Justin Fields. Oh, geez. Sure. He loves that. I mean, is that a low point or what? I mean, this is all a projection. This happened from a couple of weeks ago where there was written that Justin Fields would have a certain package of plays. I mean, he's not that guy. He's not a special teamer. He's a quarterback or he's not. Think about whoever was programming this video game. They went off of one kind of quasi report, right, that said he might return kicks and they incorporated it in the game. Without that report, no one's thinking about him returning kicks. It just, I mean, get the video programmer on. I mean, why did you do that to Justin Fields? Yeah. Because he was a quarterback and he's speedy. Now, a certain package of plays, you know, with a wild cat, I can see that. But the idea that he's going to be the every man for the Saints. Oh, what's the stealers? No, I'm talking about for the Saints. Oh, no. He's saying he's going to be taste of hills. Not right. Yeah. That's not right. He's not that. Well, certainly isn't that yet. Madden jumped the gun, but you know, I would say like Madden. Yeah. Madden, especially in competent franchise. Every year there is a litany of complaints about them every time. I remember it was either last year or two years ago in the game trailer, like the trailer, the thing that you are using to sell your product to other people. Matthew Stafford is throwing a ball and the ball is on his bicep. Like it's, it's, they don't do things the right way up it, up at Madden. That's not a, that's not right. John wouldn't like that. All right. What else do we have in the folder? Angel Reese recorded her seventh double double in a row. That's a WNBA record. Gosh, she's probably the leader for rookie of the year at this point, right? Especially Cameron Brinkout. The Caitlin Clark crew. Yeah. They like to have a word. Send your emails to Charlie Bevins. Oh boy. You want that smoke? Now listen, you're being a good Chicagoan for supporting Angel Reese and she has been awesome. I'm just saying that I don't think you want Clark in your mention, Clark fans in your mentions. Just saying. How's Clark doing? I don't even know. How's she doing? She's doing good. She's not doing as great as Angel Reese, but how's her three points shooting? Is that good? It's fine. It's decent. Chicago decent. It's decent. It's full state. It's decent. We support our teams, right? Like I'm always going to defer to a sky player over. It doesn't matter who the other player is in any league. I'm going to root for the Chicago player over whoever else. I'm not going to rip any rookie because you just got into the league. It's just that Caitlin Clark just can't turn the ball over. She's going to have to be better defensively. They ever had a co-brookey of the year. You really want to start something, don't you? Oh, jeez. Could you imagine? I'm just asking. Could you imagine? It was a popularity contest, sure. Do they play this Sunday? Is that right? Am I making that up? They played a matinee yesterday. I love in a clocker yesterday, I believe. Yeah, so to me, I just think that Caitlin Clark will be fine. The team's got to get better. That's one thing for sure, but she's a natural talent. And talent always rises to the top, just like Angel Reese. Except if you're Mitch Trubisky. Well, that's different. Well, there wasn't talent. No talent. 16 and 18 for Reese was just amazing. Pretty good. All right, Charlie. All right. It looks like the NCAA basketball tournament is going to be expanding by either four or eight teams. So this would mean Indiana State would have gotten in last year. Remember, they're kind of one of the storyline bubble teams? Yeah, 64 wasn't perfect. We need to expand. I just, when does it end? I mean, look, we just went through this with the playoff and college football, right, hoodie? Yeah. It's just going to keep growing. It's going to keep growing. And then, you know, it's fun. Like more madness is probably a good thing, but at a certain point, when are we just rewarding teams that weren't very good? Anytime that you ask why, I hope to any question when it comes to sports, it's money first. That's what comes up. Money, money and more money and more money. Now here's the question I would ask you, Charlie. If Indiana State does make the tournament, do they go as far as they did in the NIT? I'm thinking not. Yeah. I don't know. It's always weird because you have very fun teams that got left out, but you have some pretty bad teams that didn't get in that were on the bubble, too. Like nobody wanted Oklahoma to get in. And by the way, because of the NIL Jesse in the portal, the NCAA tournament is as wide open as it's ever been. There's no more Duke's, Kentucky's, that kind of thing that's going to be at the top on a regular basis. Well, I think that's why Dan Hurley is so proud of his team in trying to go for the three P. Well, the talent's so spread out. Yeah. And people are able to jump wherever they want to jump in any given year. Until the NCAA puts a reign on all of this, this is going to continue to be the Wild West. I'm the voice of the UIC Flames. Guess who's got to learn a whole new coaching staff and 10 new players. Every year. This guy. Every year. So crazy. Before those guys would stay three, four years and you'd get a chance to know them, their families and all that. And I guess Kenny Williams, my broadcast partner, a long time UIC flame asked me that he goes, does it matter to the players if there are numbers hung in the rafters anymore if you're gone after one year? You'll never, you'll never hang them again. There's no more Hall of Famers anymore. No. Right. Can you squeeze in one more? What else do we have? So Bryson DeChambeau was seen walking around Nashville on Broadway Street with the US Open Trophy. I got to be honest, I'm good on Bryson DeChambeau content now. I have reached my capacity. I think four times is enough. His victory tour, good for him. His little victory laps. It's great. I'm good. It's kind of like the Stanley Cup question. If you won the US Open, what would you do with the trophy for the next 48 hours? I have no problem with him walking around Nashville. Have fun with it. Let other people enjoy your success. That's what they do with the Stanley Cup. Basically, giving it to a player to take wherever he wants so other people can enjoy it. Not to get too deep in the weeds on this because it's golf and I want to keep listeners. But the point is though, Jesse, is that Bryson DeChambeau, I thought, and you tell me, Charlie, because you're the golfer, I thought he was unliked and now he was. Is he a baby face now? He was a heel for a long time. Is he a baby face? He is in the corner. Well, I don't even know if it's that so much as it is. We only see him four times a year because of these major events. Before, when we were seeing him every week, it got old pretty quick. But no one's watching, no one's watching Liv so nobody really sees him. So the only people who really follow him closely are like people who watch Liv and people subscribe to his YouTube channel. So when you get him in small doses, it's a lot better. Jay Moore, just so you know, I want to acknowledge that blend right there. I want to acknowledge the blend. Yeah, I did it without a mixer. I heard it. I just want you to know. I just think that was fast. Very good. That's fantastic. That's why he's the best in the business. A nice clean blend. And he didn't even yell on the mic like a New York DJ. Let's go! Let's go! He didn't even have to do that. There's a nice clean blend. Jules, that Jesse, you see that? Yep. I just think that whole thing with these shambos is interesting. Unlike and now like, to the point where people are rooting against McElroy. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of they were changed roles in a way. Yes, they did. They changed roles. I think that's interesting. The topic for Monday. Yes. A great topic for Monday at 10.05 on this show. Jhood, I'm going to say goodbye because I got to get to Wrigley. Please, go right ahead. Tarbs and Mets. Alonzo versus Bush. Will you watch a Menager? Has he become much watched to you? Yes. Yes. He's a penny stock to me because when I saw him a couple of times, I go all-star. Bye-bye early. Bye-bye. All-star. Got to work you the year future on him. Seven to one looks pretty good. That looks good. That looks good. He is the real deal. He'll be Bush versus a Menager. He's no dice-k. Matsuzaga. Love you, buddy. Great seeing you. Love you, brother. There he is. A little vacation from Cap for you. I know it's always nice. Charlie, you're the best. Jaymore, be well. Guys, coming up, we will find out the weekend weather with Tracy Butler. That's coming up next. Cap and Jay Hood on Chicago's home for sports. It's Friday. It's time to get it in for the weekend. Now, back to Cap and Jay Hood. Tune the levels all the way up up. ESPN, Chicago. Now time for the Cap and Jay Hood Cut of the Day. Brought to you by Chicago Cut Steakhouse. You've been there, Tracy, right? I have. I love it there. Isn't it great? Yes. David Flom. And just think about it. For friends, family, for clients. Or just to have a solo meal for yourself on the veranda. You could be able to do that. No. Oh, you can. I would say not. You can. But I'm not a solo eater. You like company. I do. I understand that. I'm not afraid of beautiful Chicago Cut Steakhouse in downtown Chicago. All right, Jay Moore, what do you have? Yes, it's boring. But it's a sport. Oh! Whatever. It's not boring. Okay, then you're boring. All right. Cut! Carbon and Yurco from 12 to 3. Waddle in Sylvie, 230 to 5. You know, I can't do a show without, you know, a little. Hey, Sylvie, I went to Steinoffles last night. Give me a minute. Oh, Steinoffles? I love Steinoffles, right? I was wearing my shady ways when I walked in. Right? Oh, my God. Steinoffles. They're the best. That's so good. That's so good. I love your. I love your soul. And get you all, folks. The Captain Jay Hood Cut of the Day brought to you by Chicago Cut Steakhouse. And now let's go to the newsroom. Yes. We immediately must go there. Oh, yes. ABC 7 Eyewitness News. ABC Butler brought to you by the Schomburg Boomer Schomburg Boomer's Baseball. Tracy, it's a beautiful day. Son is shining. It's blinding me. Oh, my goodness. Mate, you do have blinds in here. I feel so good in here. It does. Oh, my gosh. In the weather cave, it's so cold. Why is that? I don't know. The equipment? They're trying to free. Oh, yes. I do know that. Yes. But, you know, they did install a special heater for me. I'm a French fry warmer. So I'm sitting there. I'm just like a little chicken nugget sitting there getting warm. It's so cold back there. So, yes. I see this all the time in newsrooms where people bring their blankets and their shawls. Especially the early morning people. Yes. Like they brought whatever they were in bed with. They just drag it to the newsroom and just bring it. It's like, I'm cold. I'm still typing though. Whatever you need, you need your copy girl. I mean, it's one of those things, right? One of those things. Yes. I think that, yes, it's, it is absolutely a meat locker in the studio and a lot of times will joke, hey, you know, it's 90 outside, but it's about 22 inside. Let me ask you before we ask you about the weekend weather. When you go to a concert, what was the last time you've been to a concert lately? Oh my gosh. What was the last concert I went to? I think it was Billy Joel at Wrigley Field. You know what's happening now with people that go to concerts. They want to be able to film everything on their phones. Oh. You've seen this, right? I have. Okay. Are you one of those people that will film the entire thing to record it on your phone? No. Okay. No, because then you miss the show. I would say so too. Don't you? Yeah. Like I remember when I saw Tom Petty at Wrigley and I'm so glad that I did record a little bit of that. Yeah. Because he's my absolute favorite, but no, but you miss the show. You miss the moment and that's so much of a problem with recording everything now. I just dealt with this with Janet Jackson. She was just in town with the United Center. Yes. Exactly UN. And it was my wife and I had a great time, but it's just funny. Like I'm watching half the show through someone else's phone. Oh my gosh. And it's kind of like you have to, you can't say down in front at a concert. Hey, down in front. Why not? Yeah. It's like I can do it in a baseball game if someone's just standing in the aisle like a goof. But that's the whole thing. It's very strange that way. Again, you record some because of the moment. Sure. We were always big photo, a big photo family. A big album. You flip through. Same here. So we're always big with the moments, but not recording like the entire concert. That's crazy. What are you going to do with that? Are you going to go back and watch or are people posting these things? I mean, I don't know. A lot of people post them to Instagram stories and they're always terrible. You're so far. The camera does not do anything just this. It's just funny how that works. And are people really sitting there watching other people's stories? That's a thing. Yes. I get so annoyed when I see it. I'm like, nobody cares. So don't go to my Instagram. I do. I do. Jay Hood, Charlie. Don't go there. I do. Jay Hood. All right. So tell us about Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Okay. First of all, how is your garden doing? My garden is growing. Good. It is growing. Yes. Yes. You've been watering. I have. Okay. You will get some water tomorrow evening. We do have some storms probably between about seven and midnight tomorrow night. Hey, everybody. Tomorrow's going to be a hot one. Third high is 97. We're going to be right around that tomorrow. Humid as well. Oh, wow. Yeah. And then Sunday. Sunday. We'll back off on the heat somewhat. And it will be dry. Still humid though. Okay. Okay. I got no complaints. All right. Because I know you're doing what's best for Chicago. That's what I'm doing. For Chicago. You're doing well. For Chicago. We thank you for listening and calling in and being part of the program here on Captain Jay Hood. Our thanks to Charlie and our thanks to Jay Mornie, the other side of the glass. We'll do this Monday at seven right here on Chicago's home for sports. I tell you what, I think today it's going to be a nice long walk along the lakefront because crazy is put together something wonderful and career along the lake today. Jesse brought to you by West Coast Men's Health, helping men with ED and chronic pain for five years. West Coast Men's Health dot com. We'll see you Monday. So long, everybody. From Chicago. Hello, Dean. She grew up in the Indiana town at a good looking mama, will never was around, but she grew up tall and she grew up right with the Indiana boys on the Indiana night. I love it. Oh, God. [APPLAUSE]
