Listen back to Paul Cooney, Barry Ferguson and Peter Grant as they talk all things Scottish Football.

This is the Gore ideal football show listen anytime whatever you get your podcasts call Oh wait wait at 17 17 700 Wednesday afternoon Wednesday evening the Sun is shining in Glasgow and some good news for Rangers fans in the last few minutes They've made a signing the Dutch defender the FC 20 inch a day captain Robin proper It's now Rangers player. He's on his way to eyebrows. Peter Grant is here. Barry Ferguson - Barry Fuss with you So what do we know about the player? Well, no, he played in the top league In Holland. It was a captain of them and it's an area where they had to strengthen Paul after obviously corner ghosting I greenies move yesterday To aris limousal and so let's hope he's He's commanding and because as I said, that's an area the poach that Rangers really need to strengthen They should do Peter. Welcome back from the summer break. Barry was back on Monday night. Good to see you Thank you very much for having me back on Paul great to see you Peter and obviously the Celtic fans We're gonna hear from Brendan Rogers. He's done an exclusive interview with a friends at Sky Sports So we're here from him and you're obviously talking about Paolo Bernardo looks as though that's on and everyone talking about Adam Ita who was late for a flight with your old team knowledge is to your great loves It's the only way to sell it. I'm not saying yes today But what do you feel about Adam either? Well, I think Adam would love to come to sell to that's the way it looks Paul You know, there's no doubt obviously I don't like anybody doing tools and leaving their club there at this moment in time because I think there's a way to walk things out Hopefully ends up itself because I think it'd be a terrific sign and I really do I think it was excellent last year and I think he's only going to get better with the amount of games he plays I think he'll take up more chances focus up is one thing I question about does he score as many of the chances he gets and I think he's just going to get better and he seemed to love it here and I think that's the difference He seems to want to come in there is nothing better if you've got a player wants to come and play with your club And listen, you've both played at the old firm for the bulk of your careers But you both played at high level in England. Barry is that anything like played? No, no, there's nothing that appears to and I'm sure Peter I agree with you there listen that listen, there's other big clubs out there and very good clubs We all round clubs, but nothing compares to the Rangers and sell it in my eyes and Peter You always say there's only man United can compare absolutely in this Intensitine yeah listen I was fortunate Birmingham, we Paul a Barry Remember there and all of a sudden what we've done Paul was we played the likes of villa See the Midlands Darby I've been a London Darby's we waste time and taught them and all that Manchester needed above that's where I would say the pressure comes in him, but Celtic and Rangers Absolutely no doubt in my mind You talk about Manchester City Chelsea's and I'm talking about even Arsenal You know and the people probably look at how cuz if it's six to a thousand people weekend week out I think the pressure that goes we're playing with Celtic and Rangers Outwards is the same Manchester is compared come knock knock compared to any of them the Derby's not that far away Barry But no, I'm just I'm love obviously Peter talking about the the Birmingham and I had been at the staff run about a club Yeah, wait you see this is This is wild and crazy and and Manate actually playing that thought There's no comparison There's one member of the last we played day It's an Andrews against villa member the Rockets now we're going to the crowd Yeah, there was like riot vans about but listen that was that we after So ranges of signs Robin proper from 20 ish good day or ish today from Holland the Netherlands and what about Adam Ida then so Brendan Rogers interviewed today by Sky he was asked what's happening with the Norwich striker Adams a Norwich player I said that he'd done he'd obviously done fantastic with us last season and Would you see what what happens over the coming weeks? Palabonato well hopefully hopefully it's it's a sort of ours. He's He's too diplomatic. So hopefully he'll be well with that, but then so yeah, but we still have a walk to do But there's and transfers. There's lots of moving parts. It's never as easy as just seeing a player and bringing him in so but we would hope by the end of August that we would the The team supporter how we would have wanted because it's so important that You cannot snooze in this This game of football you always have to be developing and improving and We want to ensure that we're we haven't improved squad for this season in order to take on all the challenges that we have Interesting Peter talking about Ida and Bernardo who sealed the season for selfie with the the goal with Bernardo making it and then He's scoring you expect the Portuguese player to be coming. What do you make of him? I said to you last year Well, I was really impressed with him last year and Maybe they quite start because he's style of play people talk about but I thought there are really elegance about me It's not a rushed player He gets up again She quickly removing his feet and gets puts pressure on the ball For when he's in tight spaces he can control and pass the ball Which is the most important thing and I think he grew and grew as the season on and as a young player What is he 21 22 captain of the Portuguese under 21 side all these things? That's the sort of players you have to be saying and you know that quality because if you've got a Hitati or Riley and McGregor It's going to be very difficult in him when they're playing at the best near Philly Fit But it was proven last year that They only played minimum games together through injuries to the mall Or you know and that is difficult to replace up but but not when he came in I thought I was really impressed with and I'm I'm delighted if they can push that one through as well Oh 808 17 17 700 Peter Grant is here and Barry Ferguson too The season just a few days away kicks off Saturday hearts again strangers and then on Sunday Celtic against come back and all the other games as well with RB up and Dundee Barry. I can't believe it So since I saw you in Monday kind of goes in as gone. He said, I'm sorry We didn't get more during my time but time to go. Yeah, listen. I've got a bonus He is one player that gave everything listen. It just came at a time. They're very Had to move on Never had the best of seasons last year, but I can't be critical of them I thought When I watch Rangers and I watch corner goals and he was one player that gave everything for the the jersey There's no doubt about that and listen. It was a good six years never born enough trophies He's admitted that but I thought he was a good servant Paul. I've got a bonus, but listen his time came at an end He's moved on and listen I wish him all the best No, what didn't James Tavernier yet because the Rangers have said the new players to go out before they sign the same proper today No, what's in the captain? No, listen. It's been rumours for the last. Yeah, season or so about James Tavernier But I know Rangers fans are desperate to see players coming through the door Obviously, you mentioned propers and done and dusty, but I think it's And the forward there is the midfield there is and the forward there is it and just fans want to see a lot of movement But Rangers have been holding players need to go out before players come through But there is areas certainly in the number nine position poll I think Rangers need to go and get a real natural goal scorer and you know all the talk who it's been about As long shankling they're going to become up against in my opinion Heart's Best Player is a player a year last year in Scotland and I'm still surprised there's been No movement because he's a player and going into the final year is contract And I've mentioned plenty of things about Lauren says he's improved so much over the last couple He doesn't I think and I believe that he would do an excellent job for dangerous game has been on the socials already at Go football show and he's saying they need to watch out. He's a Rangers fan Celtic could nip in there Andy Walker asked him last night Peter. What about Lauren Changland could Celtic come for him 30 goals last season Could play for Celtic. There's no doubt of that because he's a goal scorer and I said we said that last season that The Lexi Shanklin can always score goals me offs gave spoke about and I can see a Spaniola Tom three million pound Yeah, it's 24 years of age So as Rangers is that the manager or is it just they need the money in first? I don't know because as a manager convinced they want someone at that age because there's different things on about It's not just the club You can't just say the club all the time if their manager might be looking at saying yes a fantastic goal scorer But I'm looking for such a different dynamic, you know that can be the reason Mjovski said it 24 who I think is a very very good striker as well I think Lauren Shanklin was very unfortunate in the euros because he played like a proper striker when he come on You know and that's what you need when we said that I thought he'd have started that must have met but because they played so deep It's more difficult for him. Um, so we know he can score goals and he's proven that here Yes, he could play for Celtic, but I felt to get the choice between either And Shanklin yeah, I would take either because of his years, you know at this moment I think he will get better as he goes along I think he will take more of his chances But I would take either because it obviously has been there before and probably Celtic need that type more than one So this moment thing I think he's got all the attributes needed to play Rangers Yeah, there's no doubt in my mind about that. Um, I don't need any convincing I've watched him for the last two years since he come back to your heart. So he's been hurts It's outstanding player and last year. What was it 30 goals? It was the PFA player of the year And yeah, but I'm a pretty surprised but listen I don't make a decisions at the club and the Philippe Clemon actually your opinion on it Was I was trying to get out was he mentioned one Shanklin? Um, I'll keep up right okay It would be a PR coup for and Graham's final point is Barry if they sign him three million pounds Maybe two and a half way I've been asked this poll like he's going to find all year. Yeah his contract Would you pay two and a half three million pound my opinion? I would pay that I Would pay that for him. He's 29 years of age The only thing that I would say a bit long says it is not blessed with natural pace, but he makes up With other things in his game. You know that yourself, but what you need is you don't really need that No, because you have to play my Rangers. You've got the ball course The reason why I mention that grant is because that kind of noise me when I hear people saying that a bit Listen, he's no electric There's no quic over five or ten yards No, do you know what? He's not a slowest you what's hard for a team, but he's all round game home top play link up play And he does it hard this thing in the game for me Well, a lot of the quick center backs kind of keeps seeing me watch him Yeah, because he keeps putting the ball in the back and out and that's the sharpness You need Paul run about the box is your brain and that's what he's got. He's a fantastic finisher He picks up wonderful areas. It makes double movements. You know, which people don't really talk about nowadays I mean we talked about Kyoga last year. I kept telling you Kyoga was playing well But you need to be serviced. Yeah, you need to be serviced Yeah, when you get service strikers the score goes in a lot of shine But we don't need to get more chances and that's no window Respectfully hard it you'd expect to make it more chances with angels And that's why he put the ball in the back it but as I said to you Miovsky's there as well at 24 years of age and it sounds ironic that set Rangers are not getting mentioned with him I think they can't because he's younger at 24. Maybe that's a something that the man's just maybe looking at it Maybe it's a new short term Yeah, I get Rangers listening. They need to look long-term. They need to build a model We bring in younger players. I totally get that and I buy right into them and understand that and I know that But it's about the now as well. You need to win. You need to bring in players who can help you win Games of football win trophies and I think there's a guy through an Edinburgh and also Aberdeen there's no doubt he could play at both Rangers and Celtic But I just look at Lawrence 29 good age knows the game Scottish game. You know The pressures and the demands and yeah, I'm just I'm just pretty surprised that There's no been any contact already They're just a portable accounts. So yes, I listen and I know it's a small detail But they be things are worth their way in gold. You know because you're desperate to not let anybody down Sometimes maybe too much as we've probably been there herself, you know And that's the thing but you go there and every day is a prisoner to you You're desperate to do well and it listening to get there it goes with heart last year Which is incredible and I always said it a push me to be a bit like John Robertson John Robertson your robot could have played for Celtic Rangers all day long and I always said that because you've been a natural finisher Yeah, he was a hips fan. Wasn't he originally as a boy and then of course a heart's absolute hero So what you thinking Rangers fans Celtic fans - it looks as though it could well be either But if not what about Lauren Shankland and a frangers imagine Andy Walker who was excellent last night Peter. He was really good He said because we were saying about rangers if they sign Shankland It takes a lot of the worries away short term Just now about the stadium and all the rest if they sign Scotland's top striker from last year play the year sign him If he scores a goal couple of goals that we can't against rangers and if rangers Real chance like a Tom yeah, because how good the play is Of course and Rangers that whoever the plate center back may be a new partner sure if it's not Davis and So if it could be a new partnership getting going again the pressure it comes with playing the Rangers anyway automatically You've got to be ready to play against the best striker last season and going with goals I just think you've got to look at home it sometimes and your own league go and get the Handpicked the better players like I get younger ones at some partners well But also this good experience players there and Lauren Shankland the mice falls into that Category for sure. What do you think give us a call oh eight oh eight seventeen seventeen seven hundred the goal radio football show Barry Ferguson Polk and Peter Grant. We're gonna hear a bit more from Brendan Rogers speaking to sky sports exclusively today I had of their kickoff on Sunday. It's the flag day at Celtic Park rangers will have played on Saturday in 10 castle at 10 castle He's been talking about the way it finished last season Brendan Rogers very much. So pretty much I'm looking forward even most of them every year in and and Look back to last season. It was Quite one of for us in my ways just getting to know the squad and the players and but obviously we formed that Relationship and that togetherness as the season wore on and we finished the season so so well So and that's continued through pre-season. So really excited great challenges ahead for us this season again and But our objectives is always the same domestically. We want to we want to one as many trophies as we can That's our aim and obviously into Europe. Can we come we get into the playoffs in Europe? So so real exciting season ahead. Yeah, what about the pre-season Peter? I know you covered I think all three games in America. Here's the managers you it's been very good the players staff Everyone's been outstanding. We've just come back off a really good Tour to America and yeah, the players shaping up very well. Yeah good results against Manchester City and Chelsea Can you read into that? Can you use that to build some momentum so early on? Yeah, I think because you still have to perform you're playing against really good players and my experience of top clubs is that no top club even wants to lose a pre-season game. So So for us DC United we played very well Obviously in to Man City and Chelsea and of course, there's no trophies handed out and in pre-season, but it's always a nice little Marker for you and also it's a chance to see young players and Across the boards pleasure-looking really sharp really intense and they've worked very very hard What did you make of it Peter? I agree with what he says. I thought the DC game obviously started Sort of slowly because they made a sub after about 30 seconds because it was somebody's a bye-bye game Yeah, and so after that Paul the boys settled down got going and I was really impressed with them I thought the three games each game they get better and better But in saying that and I've all I'll go back to again with you say the bit Joe Hart last you're making saves at crucial times Kasper's makeover is unbelievable. So in the first five minutes in both games It may be two or three crucial saves and then Celtic Ting over and played some wonderful wonderful football You know feedback to front, you know, they were excellent. They moved the ball quickly I thought they passed it quicker forward They get new areas when they get it the way there is a bit of ball in the box and they talked about Kyogo Chances because the ball was coming in early, but some of the general play was outstanding and then I'm including the young boys You know, I mean, we're gonna mention a few So they've speeded up the play Peter because they weren't playing the way that Brendan Rogers wanted them to and some people Was saying is he not getting the best out of the team it changed in the last couple of months of the season? Yeah, I agree with that a hundred percent But I think the difference was then if you go back to the Dundee game and the one of its six or seven itself Celtic Park also joins in a bit for assessment put and crosses in the box That's when the strikers all want no matter what level you're at Paul But I think sometimes when there's a bit of an edge you listen the performance is not good It was easier for the wide players to get the ball in pass it 30 yards back to the deepest certain midfield player It was easy for their food, but they sent her backs to pass to each other The big difference for me was that changed the center backs were passing in the midfield or into the strikers You know, the midfield were all passing forward looking forward because Kyogo's runs were unbelievable and the wide players were crossing coon and one of the games when he scored the two goals against Manchester said It was outstanding I mean he scored two wonderful goals and in a wonderful ball and assessed without Sadie's book Okay, okay, I'll go and he missed the next game, but he was outstanding in that particular game You know, but there was a few of them I don't think anybody could come away from saying well He'd a bad preseason tour looking over the three games that I looked at and it was a real top quality performance in the three games Barry you went sing away, but we talked about it a little bit in Monday But it was a man sitting Chelsea were at Phil Pilt another a couple of weeks behind so but good pre-season for Celtic Yeah, but listen good results good performance. He's that that's Ideally what you want you doing pretty seasonless and it's about getting minutes on your legs and getting as fit as possible for that Kick off to the start of the season we spoke about Rangers Paul I was at the Manchester United game. Sorry in the Birmingham game, and it wasn't great. I've been honest with you The game against Union Berlin was a bit better. Yeah But I've played I've been involved and I'm sure Peter's been involved plenty of preseason is as well We're it's no way to coordinate plan and it's all but just fitness fitness fitness fitness and preseason but if you're asking me the perfect preseason is You're playing well you're running games of football and that bowls you up for that first game in a season players to look out for Peter Cuz you always say so does Barry. We don't have enough young Scottish talent coming through couple of names that yeah Yeah, the thing Paul when you're going to tour like that what you've got to do to the manager is catch He's out because he doesn't get to see as often as they used to probably do another game You know because there's so many substitutes nowadays, but young life back Matthew Anderson I thought was excellent. I am I thought he'd done really really well in the games when he was called up on where they come on as a substitute I started I thought you was saying they need another left back to challenge. Yeah, great I was out alone as Admiral Wacker. I think last year in Austria. I think that's one of Celtic's teams I'm not sure, but I thought he was outstanding in the games Then you look at the other right back was called by Donovan when I seen him He looked like a good wanted to get forward played like tank full back Then there was a young boy Francis to lose so he played as a sort of 10 You know get round about it. They all unpacked the games when I was watching them You know the catch had I because Never had that fear, you know, and they wanted to go there But they defended well they attacked well they've done things with a purpose And I think when you're late in the mind your eyes in a preseason body storm But preseason Paul you remember we even the double when we won the centenary season or last preseason game We got dubbed five one-way arsenal now everybody was pulling its heart over the eyes because we were that poor But then moving on and hardly I think the loss won game or something through it. You know, I don't get carried away No, he sees is making everybody through fit Paul But I like to see youngsters that come through and it been to see what happens with them No, did they go back out and loan or do they pay part of it? That's the big difference from you nowadays as guys that used to do it stayed in the squad Gonna take a quick break and then we're going on the phone lines. Oh eight oh eight seventeen seventeen hundred Barry's here So to his Peter this is the good radio football show Listen anytime whatever you get your podcasts Going on to the phones poking the benefits and Peter Grant and on the line now is Chris from Gavin good evening Chris Chris good. Thanks. How are you? Not bad. Not bad looking forward to a new season start That's what we all look forward to the national stuff Well, we're all disappointed everyone was with the Euro is no question and Chris Celtic fan. How are you feeling about those the preseason? The preseason has been good and we've got the results and the performances have been there I just as I said through the fella. It's a call there the James The only thing that's disappointed me is the lack of signings now I'm not saying that you know We're not going to sign players and all we're going to say is to go keep us But all we what we actually now need is we need a striker that's going to help you go. Hopefully either if not I think long strangling would be ideal on me off skate as I've always said I think to them would sit in perfectly. We need another Center back a proper Old school center back Kind of like it's probably not the best analogy, but kind of similar Body will tell you what am I'm a result big? No nonsense center back clear the danger none of this ball plane stuff and I think we also need a creative midfielder which for now to would be but we maybe just need another one. Okay, Peter I agree with Chris a bit of striking options I think it's it looks like either and maybe that's why Brendan's hanging on because maybe it's closer than we think and the respect of that I'd have absolutely no issues with the two boys He's mentioned we spoke about them going the last season and in the respect of that We feel that they're more than capable of playing with Celtic arrangers with the qualities that they have the midfield area I'm going to throw one year. Maybe people are you really like the young boy Lening Miller? Well, and people talk maybe a creative and maybe he's only young I would take him now Because he may be not play all the games and he's in amongst in a 50 boy stay fit I don't know what Celtic have but if they've got anything underneath it's better than him at this moment in time I'll be surprised. I really like Lening Miller. I think he's everything. I think he's got an eye for a goal I think he's more than capable of playing in the league that this moment time Europe Completely different. It likes a bit by an ad coming in. It's another young group of players And I just I'll be a little like Lening Miller that someday I would take even from here Barry. Is that a good shot? Yeah, they're taking me Yeah, listen, I think a young man is more than capable of playing with either Rangers or Celtic I think he's ready. Look, you can talk about age. Listen, he's got the experience already. He's been playing a full season He's he's more than good enough. He's more than good enough. And again, that's another one. I'm surprised that Celtic are Rangers I've not done anything about. I mean, if he ain't going to play in the first team At this moment in time, if you don't see myself at the start, I'll give him back to Middo, let him play another season and then You could do it that way, but in my opinion, I think the young man's More than ready. He's showing how good he is. He can handle the pressure because there's been a big spotlight on him all last season. I've written him a bit Lening Miller. Next best thing you come through. Yep. I'm surprised that both Rangers and Celtic are going in there. That's why, when we're talking about going to Euros, I thought Ryan Jack wouldn't get used because I hadn't played games with all kinds of problems And I said, why don't we take Lening Miller and give him that experience because he was more than capable of forgetting his age. Forget about that. Absolutely. Absolutely. Exactly. Exactly. We're back to school. Exactly. 100% Let's ask Chris. Chris is right, but and maybe the fact that Stephen Wells, the baton, but Stephen Wells, I bid in for Stephen Wells for someone I don't know whether there's any truth in that Silt it, but then definitely need us to get a cent of that. I'm looking at what Chris just says. I think he's spot on. I think he need an R set at half. A big, powerful cent at half. I do think they need another central midfielder because I do think Matt O'Reilly probably will leave with the money. It's getting bandied about and obviously up top either was up for six months. Didn't know ain't about him. I've been honest with you, but I says it Monday. I was really impressed by him. And I think he could only get better. Chris, what about Peter's suggestion there about Lenin Miller, a big piece on him today in the papers. I see it in the sun there, Lenin Miller, and this in the new strip and Kettlewell, Stuart Kettlewell saying that this is going to be a huge season for him. But would you like to see your team nip in and pay some money and take them? To be honest, I think the boy said that the boy will only get better and you bare hands all the time now with players. You buy a young player from another wall or whatever, and then you just loan them back for a season and you do it in the clock. There could always be a recall option on the loan. Chris, I'm not going to cut you off for a question. Chris, I'm telling you, he would impact Celtic. He'd play games. He'd play more games than you think in the Celtic first team. And I know, but people say, I'm going to let him go back. I think he's going to go there and learn off the McGregor's, her tattoos and whatever. They're rallies if he's still there. You know, I think he's going to learn that day to day stuff because he's got the quality to play in the print. So why put him back tomorrow? Play comedy, play for Celtic. I know there's this people put David Tumble together because it was more than whatever. This kid can score a goal. It's technically very good. And as I say, he's probably there for size. Absolutely. He's a proper size, not for a modern day midfield player. And I just think he's ready now. And he's proven that it's not a gamble with him. I would definitely take him now. And I think he would impact Celtic or Rangers at this moment in time as well. And Chris did Spain shows the way in the Euros. I mean, look at Yamal. He scored. That's different. He's a once in a generation talent. I mean, no, I'm not being funny. I can't really think of players. The Yamal's fantastic. What about Pedry? What about Pedry? What about Pedry plays? He's 22, 21. You've got to give them a chance, Chris. You've got this only guy. This is only these guys play. Yeah, this is only guys. They've gone play. One of them was, I can't remember, the big boy who missed it through injury. He missed the tournament because, you know, but he came in and played for Barcelona, but two games. And all of a sudden he was called in the national team. There was up road about it, saying he's two young, he's two, this and that. And he was the best player. You know, you have to forget the numbers because years and years ago, we keep going on and saying years and years ago, that's what happened. You've got an opportunity at 17, 18, 18, 18, 18 and stay down. That's got to happen. Celtic and Rangers are going to go back to that because it's no use having these academies and whatever if you're not going to use. And that's why I was glad to see Brendan giving the young boys an opportunity over there. And some of them have probably put something in his eyes now and said, wow, these boys can play. Yes, we know Europe's a different level. Of course we do. But the only way they're going to get better, Kim Tierney was what 19 or whatever, Megan, at the first team, you know. And I'm talking about it more than day because I can get back to it when you played at 17. If you were 18 and you weren't there in the first team, you were released. Are you a 17, you played against Rangers? Yeah, but you were released. If you were 18 and not in the first team, so it's slightly different. They're dead Johnson, 16 years old school. Leonard Mallard can get in play. Yeah, Leonard Mallard can get in play for Celtic and Rangers now. And I'm hearing Peter saying that in Barry, Chris, maybe, you know, we've got used to being too cautious. And nobody's saying he's your mile, but we're just talking about the age of them. And I'm listening to Barry and Peter, they lit up from that was mentioned. Yeah, but that's the problem that Celtic and Rangers both have. We were supposed to have all these great academies. Every club's got them. I mean, it's probably the worst example, but Hamilton, they got a great academy. Blade or a young boy sold them on for proper. This is where Celtic needs have to do. Bleat them, give them a chance, because at the end of the day, all that happens with these boys is they come through the academy, they go, they go alone. They go to them family and they go. And that's what disrespect them, family, or they go to blower clubs in the SPL. And then what happens? They end up going to bigger and better things and Celtic and go. And then Celtic, or Rangers, then go, oh, we should maybe have kept him. But this is the thing we, we don't really bleed them. We tend to go for foreign nationals or players that we know from, you know, you're doing things like that because they've tried and tested. Nobody's better than trying and tested than a home-growing player. I agree. I'd love to see it. I'd love to see it. Now, I understand the reason behind it. The biggest problems we have, too many substitutes, and that is a killer for me. Because you've got nine players, so you're going to have a big squad of players who are predominantly off senior players, which rubs the young ones out unless they're really outstanding. And that's why I was glad that these young boys during this pre-season, well, caught my eye, whether I'm sure they'll be able to perform this with the caught. Brendan's eye, but the caught my eye with the performance because it's not easy. We're a Celtic and a Rangers jersey. No matter what it was like, Grant, he's mentioned you've watched the last three games, and there's nothing better than seeing a young player give an opportunity in pre-season. I know that's not as much pressure, but it gives him that taste of what he's going to become up against in fair. Rangers point of view, they've got a young boy, I think, just if he gets a bit of guidance, boy, Bailey Rice, who they actually got from Mothero a couple of seasons ago, he's getting through his potential. If he just gets a bit of guidance and a bit of belief, they could have a play on their hands. Would you like about him, Barry? Again, he's got quite some little in in Miller. He's got all the attributes, can handle the ball, can control it, can run a game of football, he's got a goal in him. So when I see him come on against Birmingham, I'm like, "Hopefully this is a season for him now because there was a big clam about him going to Rangers, and hopefully this is a season he's going to make a breakthrough." I'd better trust they need as well. And when young players get that, they've got no fear at times. The Rangers story would have been different, Barry, if they hadn't trusted in you. It's such a young age. Yeah, in the evening, captain over Amaruso. And Amaruso was just mentioned there by Chris. Yeah, you just need to manage it. It believes in the input. And he's going to throw in, when I come through the Walter Smith either, when they were going for a turn in a row, the midfield was fully seasoned pros and nationals. And there was a few, you need a bit of luck as well, Paul. There was a bit of luck, we're injuries and illnesses. And when you take that opportunity, you need to go and grasp it, and you need to make sure the manager stands up and takes notice of it. You need to go and do something when you get that opportunity. And it sounds like I've not seen anyone listening to highlights of the Celtic games. Granted, he's watched the field games that some of these young players have certainly done that. He's got copies if you want them. [LAUGHTER] He's just getting by and watching that. He's getting on and on and on and on and on. Listen, I watch you and you're all dying when you do. You stick in the cup for the end. He can't be caught cold when you're in this studio. I know, I know, he's a mic, I know. What would have happened if you had given up when I actually made you do the toast again? Do you know that Chris, that we'd make him? What age were you, 15 Chris? That was a tough apprenticeship, but listen. It makes you the person, yeah. No, it hadn't dropped, Max, for sure. It's all the same now. No, I know, exactly. They weren't it immediately, but they don't get enough of a chance. Let's hear what the manager's saying about, "Well, you're with us, Chris, about Max O'Reilly." What's the latest? It's been actually straightforward, Matt, because he's such a great professional. I think it was the challenge, I think, for teams coming to a public Celtic, is that they sometimes can place a value on the league and not the player, and I've already said to the club. But we all understand the model here. Players will come in and develop. It's not a club that you have to move on from, but obviously, there's riches in other leagues, much greater than ours that allows players to go and improve their conditions for their life. So we all understand that. But I think it's really important from my perspective, if a player does leave here, that, as I said, they play the value for the player, and that's not something that sometimes can happen. Sometimes a value will come in a lot less. But I've, you know, worked in the Premier League, I understand the levels there, I understand the players and what the values are. So, yeah, so no player will leave here unless it's for the right valuation. And at this moment in time, there's been no team that's been it. I never knew that. Chris on the line, what's your valuation of Matt O'Reilly? Matt O'Reilly, I would say about 30 million. And that's not quite a bit ridiculous. I'm sick of these English clubs coming in. And the perfect example to use is Bob Joe Van Dyke. We sold them, I think, 13 million in an event for 75 million. I mean, this is, this is the problem. These players go down, say, these players go down south for ridiculous little values. And just because you're in the English Premier League, they then get sold on for astronomical money. For sure. Because I'm not being funny, as Harry Maguire went for 80 million and I think he went to Man United for. So, what's Bob Joe Van Dyke worth saying if you use that model? It's ridiculous the money they go for. I think anything less than 30 million is totally disgraceful. Peter, what do you feel? I agree with Chris, 100%. Obviously, I've been working on it for about 27 years. So, I know exactly what they value the game up here and the players that they think they can get them for a song. And that is a problem. I mean, you go back two years. Was it co-pama? Chelsea paid 40, 50 million for them. If you're the city, someone up in Scotland, who's co-pama, they've been a new, you know? You get out of your banjo in the backside and you still wouldn't have knew who it was. And you say the same about Matt, but Matt's played in Champions League and played really, really well in Champions League against top, top quality players. So, why are they coming in at 16 million? OK, exactly, exactly what Chris says. Just trying it on. Because they know the value, one salary-wise of Treble, no matter what he's on itself, he can Treble it whatever he's going to go. So, that's not a disrespect, because Seltic will be playing big money. But that's what happens, it's a salary. So, they think, oh, well, we'll offer low ball the money. They offer for Seltic, so they can give these massive wages. And that's fine for Matt, but the club are right to hold on you. I tell you, Brendan Rogers summed it up perfectly. We've players up here to look at the league, know the ability, good reason, of the player. And when you think about that, I think he's spot on. What do you think the value would be, Barry? I don't think they'll get any more than 20 million. I don't. But I think if Matt O'Reilly was down in England in the Championship, you would get 30 million pounds. Peter, I don't think they'll get 30 million. I agree, I agree with Barry. I think they'll be looking at him and saying, but the only thing I can say in my hand in my heart is value is not even in pre-season, because he's attitude, his performance, his attitude through it, his not down toes. And that's why I think it's important. You go about your business properly, because things will happen. You know whether you're moving on or whatever you go about, your job properly, and he's done that. And the tour, his performance is about outstanding, against quality players. So, all he's done is sold himself, again, to prove that he can play against the best. And, as I say, I would love him to stay a bit over. So, I think sell-to-go got him. Well, if I'm a club that can afford it, you would definitely put a price on it. They told him it's Southampton, but Cryy, if he went, he likes his Southampton. Like, that would make me cry. You would cry. I think he would shoot in the game, I'd rather it be in Spain than that. I think I would shoot him down here, right? Yeah, so I told him. I think if he went to a club, like Southampton, I think Southampton will struggle next season. I think Matt O'Reilly could struggle. I think he needs to go somewhere. Like, Serie A, La Liga, I think he would flourish you. Got it worked for Loose. So what? Yeah, didn't it? Yeah, that bit, a bit of business. One and a half, my wife and kid. It's unbelievable, isn't it? It sure is. Never heard of him. No. Honestly, granted you obviously. What's with him? Never knew anything about him, and he said, "I don't think he was really fat when he came up." Piot is always a problem. It's hard, you know, he's a bit beat. It's fitness is a youngster. But to be fair... He's on him now. He betted it. The great thing about Martin and Bank Brennan's touched on it, he's a wonderful kid. He's an intelligent kid. He's no doctor. You know, he's not one of these guys that just talks football. He watches football, he understands it. He knows, but he'll know the path that he wants to go, which is important. So no matter what anybody says to him, because it'd be easy for Martin to go to it. Is that Atlanta? It's been getting mentioned. Easy, Martin, at the major. Listen, get off our angle plane. I want to go to Atlanta or whatever. But he's not there, and he's been outstanding in his performances. And he only played every minute. Every game. You know, you even see him and Brennan's taking him off a couple of times. He's like, "I have to go keep me on." So they're thinking, "Oh, so..." I can see that little bit of Brian McLaren, back in the day. You'd be reading the record of the sun. And that's great. So was I, he was on the Herald. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. With financial times in years. I don't know if I was interested. Because it was a big paper, you know, they just weren't intelligent. I'm not so sure. Jockey, he was some player, wasn't he? It was fantastic. Chris, great call. Thanks for coming on. It's always 17, 17, 700. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Let's go. Let's go. It's going to be some season ahead. Paul can hear with Peter Grant and Barry Ferguson. John Hartson will be here tomorrow night, along with Shelley Care. MBE, not seem Shelley in for some time. So the former Scotland manager, women's manager will be with us here in the studio tomorrow, along with the Welsh Wizard, the former Celtic Arsenal. And well, we don't have time to name all these clubs, but Big John will be here tomorrow evening. Give us some opponent, wasn't he, Barry? Big John Hartson. Yeah, he's finished the way. Yep. I don't remember that. Yeah, I said that. Five minutes hand in the game, because I had to obviously block the ball that was coming up in seven and a half. So it was like a sandwich. So it would be, say, Big John Hartson and myself and you'd only have two or three minutes hand in the game and you would touch him and he'd... Absolutely, soaking his sweat. He never ran a bit. It's some cycle, isn't it? I'm only... I know. No, I'm telling the truth about that, but I'll tell you, over a hundred goals, wasn't it? Yeah. He was a top player. Yeah, he was. For sure, the Charlie Nicholas of his day, just looking... Oh, you look to them at that particular time, you know, if he's sorting the arse in the arse in the arse. Of course, yeah, I know. Not bad, both of you. No, not bad, phenomenal. And you think to yourself, how well he'd done, but not every club, Wimbledon, West Ham, he was loved with them all, you know, Arsenal, you know, all these things and that's difficult as a striker, because sometimes you end up drying up or whatever. But sometimes, John was a good partner for the other boys when I burnt him because he was such a physical presence. You know, so all these things are wonderful, wonderful. I was disappointed because I seen him at trackside actually, getting in, he'd done his medical arrangers and obviously failed it, because he had a problem his knee. And when I seen him by saying him, John Hartsey, I think, what I was saying, and that has obviously failed through and then went and joined Celtic, Mark, and he'll sign them. And he was a top player for Celtic. Was it one or the burr the same day he was signing? Yeah, yeah, but listen, what a player. Yeah, he was... I know. I think John said I'll be with you in 10 minutes. Yeah, but it's not even normal, the burr, half an even, it came. But he was struggling, he's knee, but some of the stuff he'd done with football, he was brilliant to play alongside him. But it's incredible, isn't it? He said he'd half and he'd joined field one, and he, you know... I know, it just tells you. Incredible. I did not try to get him back later years. After that again, John came out and said something later years and he just tried to get him back. You have to buy the book after that one. I'll tell you what, you've bought everyone talking. The socials are really, really on fire about Lenin Miller. Celtic should come in, or Rangers should come in for him, and that's no disrespect to Motherwell, but Motherwell could probably... I mean, we didn't want to lose him. He's only 17, but he had a great season last year there. So what do you think? Give us a call. O8, O8, 17, 17, 700, and Barrie on the socials. Apparently, we're blowing up this week. People are the lovin' it that we're back on. They've enjoyed some of the stuff Monday and Tuesday. And tonight, as well, no doubt, there's hundreds of thousands on the socials. Do you know what that means, you and me? Yeah. Peter, the socials, that kind of looks like... Yeah, I used to be about pop on some tonight, you know what I mean? Nah, it's good. It's good, you know, isn't it? I don't get any exchange queers at all. It's really social, yeah. You were more than 29, man, were you? Kong, is that where you were? I don't know, that's a new place. It is, yeah. Well, you know your stuff, Paul? Citation, as well. You're stuff for the day, please, you're still trying to get him. DJ Paul, Karina! So, I'm going to take some more coals, probably after the news, there's so much in the first hour. We heard from Philip Clemall on the other night, he was talking about the rebuild, and he was asked about title chances, what did he tell Skye? I will put all my effort in that, and that's what we need to do. So, we know, of course, there's a small renovation with a few details, and they can build on their core. And we have a big rebuild, so let us first make a good foundation of this rebuild, of our house, and let us build our house the next couple of weeks and the next couple of months to make it much stronger, and then it will be much stronger than it was six months ago. And the Dutch defender, Robin Propper, is in. That's been announced in the last hour or so. Rangers are going to be playing at Hamden, certainly in August and September, as well. John Bennett came on in Monday night. But it was good timing for us, wasn't it? Mark did well, going out to listen to it. Yeah, and it was good because there's been a lot of clamming about the want the Rangers chairman to come out and explain what's happening, obviously, with the closure of this stadium. You have to go to Hamden and obviously what kind of budget the managers are going to be wanting with. So, listen, I thought it was open, honest, and I think that's the way you've got to be. Listen, it's not what you want to hear, but I think the Rangers fans will sit back and think, "Well, do you know what?" That was an honest answer of you. And he's not given a timeline. They're looking at the last game. I think it's Hibbs, then, this September. That's what they're aiming for. But he's not giving any guarantees, which tells me there could be further delays. Look, it's no ideal. You want to be playing at your homesteading. You want to be playing in front of your home fans. You're going to Hamden, as I said, it's no ideal, but you can't have any excuse, Paul. It's still a bit of grass. We're going on it. The atmosphere's no ideal either. I've always said that a bit of Hamden. And yet you've won so much there. Yeah, but it's not the same as Cheybrokes. No, we're near it. But they still have to go. I can't bear any excuses when the games are held at Hamden. They still need to go and play against the living men and make sure they get three points for the football club. You want some advice from Peter? And I'm only asking, as I know, is it? Yeah, and some of the clothing industry do a bit. It was interesting to hear. If you're on it, because, listen, it's no ideal scenario, but when you turn up and I think you've got to lock all that out, see once you walk out and that pitch and the whistle goes, you can only one thought in your mind. And that's the one I gave me football playing for Rangers. Peter, so you did it in the '90s, when fixed in Canada was the rebuild of Celtic Park. What was it like? What's the difference? Why? It was just horrible, Paul. We used to travel into Celtic Park, part of your car, and the old school up was there. John Point at the bus, and then drive across to Hamden. And it was like an away game every time you went to play there. Because it was, because it's not your home. I mean, the dream was to run out at Celtic Park and play there and the fans there, and that's your spiritual home. And it wasn't a spiritual home. It was soulless. I felt it was soulless in their respect to that. Our performance was wasn't good enough. I just thought everything about it was really, really poor. And I must admit, we didn't play well on it. And that was just, even when you won, I just didn't feel the same. It was bizarre. It was just a real horrible feeling because it varies, right? You run out at Celtic Park or eyebrows. That's what you've loved a dream to try and do. When you run out at Hamden, that was for cup finals. Cup finals, not even semi-finals, that's what that was for. Now it became your home, and it was a completely different feel. I must admit, I really didn't enjoy that at all. Half of Celtic Park was better than Hamden. Really? Yeah, 100%. 100%, 100%. At least you were going to your own ground. Do you know what I was thinking about that? Obviously, there's a crane on the pitch just now. So, see when there's no need for the crane? Is there a chance where you could just close that one stand and have the three stands open for the year's own fans to come? Because, listen, it's going to be tough for the manager and the players. There's no doubt, but I feel for the supporters. Well, we've done that, guys, because if you remember being the goal, poor member, that was all open. It was just a big stand and whatever. And then you'd deplete just for a period of time. So, you'd all that sort of thing. And the quicker we get back, the better. And even lot was like that at first. It was so, so much better than it was being at Hamden. So, is it giving Celtic? And everybody else an advantage, do you think, Peter? You know, for this advance for Rangers. Oh, I hear Barry. I wouldn't use that as an excuse, okay. Honestly, it's interesting that you see Grant, his feel, because he's been there and done it and obviously had to go and play at Hamden. But I would still, as a player, if it was me just now, it's not an ideal situation. But I know I'm still going to want a pitch. The big thing I was about is, we found, remember, a lot of the boys would never have played at Hamden, because we don't want to cut finals. So, a lot of the boys for the opposition would think this is a dream to play at Hamden. You know, it's because there was no semi-finals on that play. So, they raised their game. They can raise their game to get raised at Hamden. But also the fight, it was at Hamden, for them. So, it was a completely different, it was named going to Celtic Park. Well, like you said, Jimmy Steel, you still leave all the toilet rolls for the opposition at the front door. You don't have to say this, you've got a bit nervous in there. You know, so these things like that, you get used to. You see the badges, you say, "I'll take a range," or whatever. At their stadium, you know, they're walking into their stadium and it's a different feel for the opponent. Get any Hamden. It's not, you try and make it like Celtic as much as you want. At ranges as much as you want, it's not the same feel, even for the supporters. And the supporters were negative about it as well, which that combination is not ideal. It's not going to be from, but his body says you can't make excuses as players. But I can only tell you how we felt at that particular time. Kick-off is now just what? Three days away, it kicks off Saturday. 12-30, hearts against Rangers, so it's third against second, from last season, and motherball against Los County at three. And then Dundee Darby at 12 at 1.30 on Sunday. Dundee United against Dundee. St. Maren against Hebs at three o'clock, and Celtic against Comannock at 4.30. And then on Monday night, St. Johnson against Aberdeen. But before that, for Killie, a huge game tomorrow night, and for St. Maren too, we'll talk about that in more after the news. This is the Gore Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go. Let's go! This is the Gore Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Call, await, await, 17-17-700. We're still in July, but the European football kicked off last mid-week with St. Maren going to Iceland, they'll know with Valour. And Comannock won one at home in their game with Serko Bruj, looking forward to both games tomorrow night. Banny, we just saw there the way we were sitting. We could see Denny McKinnis. He's got his homework behind on the other Serko release team. There'll be cards, wasn't it? Yeah, it was, but listen, it's going to be a tough one for them. Drawing at home in the first leg, so that'll be a tough one for Comannock. But listen, Derek knows how he set a team up. Oh, hard to beat, and I'm sure they'll go over there, sit back and try and hit Ruja on the count of the time. They did so well last season, didn't they? Peter, and you predicted that. I think Barry did as well, that Kelly would do well. And it's been an amazing story. Just two years ago, they came up, as you well know, from the championship. How do you think they're going to do tomorrow? I think they'll do well, because Derek's teams are based on the defence of structure. But they've got such good delivery. And I like the way they play, they say I'm strong if he's fit. You know, getting crosses in the box. They don't mess about it, they know what they're doing. Every player knows their job. But let's not come up against a good side. You know, and sometimes they can break you down, and it becomes difficult when you've got to go and try and win the game. But to keep the self in the game, and there's a couple of chances near the end, you just hope one of them is going to go over the line and get it out. We put the self in front, because I think that would make a difference. I think that will struggle tomorrow night, because, yeah, I just think Serko, I hope I'm 100% wrong. I just think they've got a little bit of quality that can connect that goal. And then that's maybe when come man, or maybe struggle to get that goal back, because of the way that, as I say, they set up. I mean, he's done a great job, but let's be honest. I was surprised that he dropped down, but listening got them back up. And I thought the first season was just make sure you stay in the league. That was it. And then last year, I was convinced they were going to finish, and they talked six, but listening done one better. Yeah, get them in, and a Europe, and listening is well, well backed as well. Got to be honest with you, and his recruitment's been excellent. His recruitment's been very good, a really well-drilled team. And you know what, they go for it as well. At times, I know I get what he's saying. They're structurally very strong defensively, but the two wide boys, the two boys up top caused people problems. Absolutely. And I think that was only time. I'm not sure many times he played against Celtic without the back three. The last time they played Celtic when Celtic won the league, they played the back four that day, and they get terrorized by Celtic. Celtic were outstanding in that particular day. And I was surprised at that because I think, I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong here, but the times they made it difficult for Celtic players. When you had that back five, and there was no gaps to run between, and it was the first time they'd opened up, I know people would say they'd nothing to play for, but I know that it wants to win all the time, you know, as well, and Celtic were outstanding in that particular night. So it just shows you the fine line, if you change certain things, how you can be caught out a little bit. And you want to play with two, and you want to play with two speakers, but you know you've got to give up something then, and sometimes that can be the catch. I don't think you'll go, we are back four to more angle. Have a back five, maybe a four in the middle of the picture, two wide boys talking in, and then hoping the boys up front can get them up the pitch and get their chances for set plays and whatever, which they are very, very good at. Because, buddy, you like Armstrong and Kennedy in the supply that they give a Visele Watson and a good team. - But Watson gives you that extra, see if you play with one striker, what Watson gives you is the legs to go and support that one striker very quickly. That's what he does very well, and next I go for you, and he's done that consistently. So that gives Derek the option you have in one striker instead of the two, so that may be the thing he looks like. - Yeah, they've got some good footballers as well. Young Watson was young player of the year, so he really impressed me every time I watched command that last season. Paul Wirth as well in the middle of the pitch is a real good football player, so they've got a good mix, they've got quite a physical team, but also when they've got time to play, they'll get the ball down and try and do it the right way. - Score line? - You think Killy might just do it? - Or am I just being... - Well, this is one of the games I think we have... Derek's experience will come in, and I think he'll go and he'll do a bit grand, he says, "I think he'll sit really deep behind the ball, "trying for to straight them and try and get something off our set piece, "because that is one of their strengths, they clearly work on set pieces, "me and if you see them, if you watch them, sorry, "whether it's corner kicks or free kicks round about the box, "they've got a lot of good moves." So, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised that it would be a tough one, but I wouldn't be surprised if command would not come away with something. - I have to do, Paul, I'll be one of the best results in history. - For sure. - It was absolutely not, didn't I? 'Cause Circle Bridge are no mugs, you know what I mean? So, he's hoping fingers crossed that they get the result. - And you want to see the club's progress as well? - So, what about Saint Manthamor and I, Peter Valoor? It could have been, apparently, it could have been 6-6 last week. - Absolutely, but listen, Stevie again. - Done a terrific job. The players understand, he's brought other ones in, like Sean running on at the squad as well, where he's got his football experience, you know, so, he's no more guy there. He knows how to win a game of football, you know, one off-situation. So, Miron wouldn't surprise me, you know, if they went and get a result, yet again, very, very similar to Comannock in the respect to that. I don't know much about Valoor, but I'd say I'd been more than hoping that a Scottish team could be a nice landing team, and that's not been disrespectful. I just think the Belgian League have got better quality at a player, and that's probably a difference, and that's why I'd probably give Saint Man more hope than I would probably come on. - Yeah, you've got a couple of there Valoor tracks. (LAUGHTER) - You've been in a bit of both of them. - I've been in a few years left, haven't you? - No, I've got a lot. - Honestly, I agree with Grant. I think the job that he's done there's been growing in the last couple of years. He's finished in the top six, getting them in Europe. And again, they're another team when you watch them. They're very well coached and well drilled. There's no doubt about it. Again, they've got players that can hurt you. And I've found something good, I've found something through. I think it's going to be a win for Saint Man. It's been a long time since they were in Europe, wasn't it? The '87, '88, was the last season they were there. - I think he was involved then as well. - Yeah, I think he was involved. - That's right, I'm sure. - Yeah, I'm sure. - I think he was involved. - Yeah. You know, when they were in the back, he was all about his team. - You know, because I think he's amazing. - I think he's amazing, hasn't he? - You see Big Sean when he's in. - No. - Did you watch it? - No, it was good. He was the brass company's team at Fleetwood. And he's like, "Yeah, three man, they're just too good, one bad." - What did he say? - Yeah. - He doesn't think about his team. - He's like, "Three mangers, I think." - Is he tall enough? - No, imagine saying that, I think I know what he's talking about. - Is that a Scott? - No. - No, all right, okay. - Eggs, ham's mangers. - I know, I know, I know, I'm a few. - Yeah. - In fact, I watched the playoffs. - It was good, I do. - It's fresh that I like that. I like when somebody's just been honest. - Yeah, yeah. - I've given the wishes with that. - Be able to ask them, "Don't fail me." - I'll walk with them in the YouTube intervention. - Yeah. - They'll tell you, "We really need Scottish wins, don't we?" - You know, and you're... - They're fantastic. - ...coefficient, it's plunging, so... - We're always, we're always... - There's some, you know, one you're singing... - Yeah, I know. - Anytime you say, "We want them all to win." - Yeah. - Desperate for them all to win. - Yeah. - For the Scottish game, they'll never mean anything else. That's what they're doing. - I'd be too cautious. That's, you know, because we're talking there about Lenin and Miller. Why not, Mueller playing him in the first team with a huge season for him? But why not, should Celtic come in for him? As Peter said in the first hour, "Arangers, if they can." Who are Rangers going to go for as well? Barry, a few people have been asking, you know, the manager. So, kind of goals in his move, Don. Todd Cantwell's going to move on. You know, the players that he doesn't seem to want to... Long Shaiklin, we don't know. There's been word that earlier in the, you know, January. He's maybe not the player he was looking for then. So, what kind of players is he looking for? Do you think the Philip Clemol for this coming season? And for Celtic, well, the goalkeeper, Casper Schmeichel, you watched them, Peter, and the manager spoke about how well he settled in the last couple of weeks. Well, just him coming in in this last 10, 12 days or so was given the players a lift. We'd obviously Joe here, who was absolutely brilliant. And obviously the season I bought with him last season, he was an amazing character and goalkeeper. And it was really important for us to bring in someone like that and have a work with Casper for the period that I did. I knew he was hunger, I knew how competitive he was. It helps him how good he is around these teammates and, of course, coming into here, coming into a massive club like this is something that he really, really relished, so he's settled in very, very well. He's obviously an experienced goalkeeper, but he's no standing goalkeeper and someone that would very lucky to have. Peter, what do you make of him? I thought he was brilliant, I must admit. I think the biggest thing, Celtic or Rangers character is a goalkeeper. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind of that. Someday replaced Joe Hart, was going to be a big, because I was a big supporter of him last year, people are critical of him. And I think at times, even when the game four or five he's already made a save, which was outstanding. I'll go back to the Hart's game, it was maybe two or three before the end of the season. Probably Celtic's best home performance, I felt. But Joe had a save just before half-time. It was an equaliser, it had been for Hart's think, it was from Devlin. And it was an outstanding save. But in many of them, they get forgotten about. And I think Kasper Schmeichel, that's why I think it was vital. There was an experienced goalkeeper talking about all of them, going for some day, some day 36, after some day 36, retired and all that. But Joe decided that Joe could still play, but he says for Zeke, even when he was finished this season. But you look at Kasper Schmeichel, Hungary that is brilliant, spoke about all these things. What with him? But most importantly, he's got the character and the ability to be a Celtic goalkeeper and bring big saves off, which he's even done in pre-season so far. And I think that's massive. Another character in the Scottish game. Yeah, I think it was the most important sign, and it replaced Big Joe. Because, as I said, less than I thought, he was a brilliant sign and facility overall. Since he's been at the club, and he's just a character, he is very similar to Joe. Big presence. And have you watched him when he was at Leicester? He was always screaming in shit. I like a goalkeeper who communicates, it keeps you on your toes. And he's very much like that, so I think that's a, I think it's a brilliant sign. 37, again, it's just a number. He looks to me if he can go on and play for another three or four, yeah. Well, you do have fun, isn't that, Paul? Yeah, playing at 40. That's right, you know what I mean? So, the keeper's now, you know, and he's got a very, very good goalkeeper. Obviously, in Stevie Woods, you know, who's worked with experienced ones. It's been an anthem, all these guys are all the way through, you know? So, he knows what it takes, he knows how to feed these guys, because you're not going to change certain goalkeepers of the way they... I mean, you've got a villa one of your times, and I thought that's in the goal-keeping coach, bringing all these new things in to Shea Givin. And I'm thinking, Jesus, come on. You know what I mean, but it was things that Shea had probably never done in his life, and it was only going to get Shea injured. Stevie will know how to work with Casper. And bare mind, he's always been involved in the Scottish game before, because he was... He saved a penalty, didn't he? Did you see that one? Did he find him? Who was it? John Hughes, like Yogi. Was a big Yogi, hadn't you? Yeah, I'm positive he was like Yogi seeing him for folk-up. Yeah, you know what I mean? What about Viljami or Viljami Sinisalo, the other keeper? You saw him as well? I'm sure he played against us. Was it here, reunited? And I can't remember if I was the aloe of manger, or as Don Ferman, manger. He was the goalkeeper and done very well in that particular match. Did you remember? Because I remember the name, obviously. Because I'm trying to read out to the players. I'm sure I got it wrong. I'm sure I got it wrong, but I remember. But I remember him playing in the played very well, in that particular game. So, I knew the name when he signed, but I've not seen much. Villa, I think he was at Villa. I think that's what I've gotten from. Some in America as well. I've seen him in America, he good saves as well. But obviously, it's a back-up they'll know that's what he looks as if he's going to be. Because I don't see him bringing a goalkeeper like that, and the top clubs have all got three goalkeepers or whatever. And it looks as if he's going to move, I don't know if he's moved yet. - Isn't he all in it? - Yeah, he'll be talking about it in the aligning team. So, it'll be Scott Bain and Sinna Sola to take the three, which they're all the top teams have now. - Barry, he'll keep his right there, but he's self-ticking. - I didn't know if that was true, yeah. - Oh, yeah. - Yeah. - He's got that line in aligning, that's what it is. - Oh, that's what it is. - Yeah, line in over there. - Yeah. Barry, Rangers, I'm going to ask Peter as well. Who do you think the Rangers will need? And what does Celtic need as well? We spoke a wee bit in the first hour. We had a wee bit more from Brendan Rodgers, who was telling Skye it's been a slow transfer window. - I think it will do. I think speaking to a lot of managers, it's been that. I think that, obviously, especially with a lot of the top English teams being away. And obviously, they're having the Euros and everything else. The squads are a little bit broken, so it's not really until they come back and all together, they can see what they have. And obviously, then, there's a knock-on effect to that. But, yeah, I think, always, you want to get your work done. Everyone would love to get their work done as soon as they can. We'd love to have had everything done for the first game of the season, but that doesn't necessarily always end up being the case. But for me, my hope is that we can be much stronger coming out of the August window than what we finished last season. - Peter, what do you expect, then, in the coming weeks for Celtic? - I think Brendan's touched on it. People forget, now Paul, another day it was up to about 18 players, eh? It was in most squads. The biggest problem you haven't got now, it's 25. So, you're starting at 25. So, all these clubs won't talk quality players as they're first 25. Now, that is a knock-on effect to the players that you want. That's why things are so slow. Obviously, you've had the Euros as well. And other competitions, Celtic will know who they want. They'll know if some of them are dead, and they'll be moving on to the other ones if they know you have no chance of getting them. So, they'll know all that. I agree with Barry. Stephen Wells goes, you need another centre. I think even if Stephen stays, it's probably a position you've been looking at. Listen, I really like Scott McKenna. And I think Celtic, when I went for him, but skill's done really well. I know people have a critical offer, but I think if you look at his all-round performance through it last season, he didn't understand in season that I felt, you know? Yes, you can always get somebody pushing you. I think Celtic would have definitely seen McKenna. If they didn't have. If they didn't have scales. But you're seeing an Irish in a knife, who's playing all the games and done exceptionally well. Whether you need the other one, I'm not left-sider. But then you'd see the same end up. It's like, well, if you see that, right-sider, is it to the players' records? No, it's not. It's to play a long one, but they, if you're talking about McKenna being available on a free, I would say Scott McKenna, whether I was Celtic or Rangers, I think he's a very good defender. And especially in the Scottish game. Absolutely standing on his head. Barry's Scott McKenna for Celtic or Rangers? In a free transfer. Yeah, I would have, I was going to say, it's not even a gamble, if I'm being honest with you. I like him big, he kind of is a throwback Scott McKenna. He's actually got better on the ball over the last few years since he's been down playing in England. Obviously went and loaned he caught me hanging the last six months of this season, but yeah, it's a free transfer. I'm surprised again that a Rangers are sell to it have not. Maybe they've shown interest in these salaries, maybe, through the risk, because obviously you know what you've been earning down, down south a lot more than they could get up here. So yeah, I'm surprised that none of them have shown an interest. But he certainly, he's got Barry's, he's got older Scott McKenna. What is he, 32 now, isn't he? So he's still quite young, but he's had some playing at Ibro's. Can't he tell you to be? You got to get your look halved off nowadays. I mean, ages, as I said, you'll see players think over the next five, ten years. Players getting into the late thirties. It says, "Oh, there's a, I'm not sure, I'll double check it just now." The hitting on my point was really a chance for him to play at Rangers or at Celtic. Absolutely. Listen, see me before he went south, I'd have 10 at my Celtic. My name is Ibro Dean, I was surprised Celtic Rangers. I know people have seen it, of course, in a bit of money. I'd have sent Scott McKenna from Aberdeen and made Celtic and our Rangers stronger at that particular stage. He's 27. I was going to completely wrong. Sorry, he's 27 young because I remember. He's debut. Wow. We played him in the 21s. That's wonderful, isn't it? Yeah, that's bizarre, actually. We gave him his debut in the 21s. I was, we worked with Scott, Scott Gammell. I mean, Scott went to see him playing a part outside Aberdeen, playing for the reserves. It brought him to the squad. We played against Holland and we played outstanding. They're young and all that I've been playing. And we beat them two nullits in this rhythm. The following sat up, they Derek put him in the first team and he stayed in the team level since then. And Derek had him. And we used to say, we, a garlic team, we scored his first cup, I think. We'd tend him in a Mexico to remember. We'd barely just 10 over. So we're playing him and Jack Henry together. And that's when he started getting into the Scotland squad. So there is absolutely no doubt about his talent. And Barry's right. If he trusted himself, motive pass it. He said at the particular time when he was Aberdeen under Derek, he spoke about it a little and has was to hit the front men and play off of there. But he's got a trusty style because he's a real good passer to the ball and I love all their food. But he would definitely, if I was Celtic, I'd definitely have him in a squad. That is true. I'll start that one again. What a young Scott McCain. That's when he's seven. Yeah, it was a good age. Yeah, listen, I think it's a very good free transfer. I do. Any insight do you think he might be? No, but I'm sure. I'm surprised that he's not signed with a club already because you're in a preseason or whatever, but I'm sure they'll be a lot of interest in them. Where else do Rangers need to strengthen? All over the pitch. Do you think to have any of us just want to maintain a bit of this? Listen, he's your own Sterling. He suffered a minor injury, but he's going to be fine. No doubt for the weekend. I watched him against Manchester United and watching the games. Sterling and Dale Mandy are the only two that's up there. Yeah, and the ones I've did OK because it's not been ideal in terms of performances. So I think if you're looking at a Rangers squad, I think all over the pitch poll, I couldn't pinpoint one position. But always look at the midfield. I think they need an experienced head in the middle of the pitch. Peter looking at Rangers. And I'm right in there because I honestly believe of the get someday. 28, 29, who you can hang your heart on. It can play 35, 40, 45 games this season. I think they're not all bring on guys like Dale Mandy, because I think Rangers have got a real player there. I do. You've come back even better than they was, because he impressed me last year. He was floating in and out of games, but he was the one that kind of tried to go on the bone, tried to make things happen. And I think if you get somebody in there to, like, kind of, how could that put it? Watch them. Look after them. Not sure. I'd let be a minder in the middle of the pitch. I'm like, Greg, I really, what he's done for the last two. Because, OK, Calm's not maybe vice-siferous, as we say. Paul was very like that, because quiet. He's not as loud. You know, and you're saying it's so, but he still organises and pulls people about, you know, and worries 100%. He knows how important that is that role of playing that deeper one. You're the ice for everybody else. You're noticing in front of you. So, getting that organisation, that's why I thought Philip Clemente would maybe have four more fingers in the pie. Belgian and Dutch football, and knowing players he could play for Rangers. Because you've got to have a talent to play for Rangers as well. And then, of course, you're going to be hospitable. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. That's when we think I can say, Paul. So, it's all right, you're saying, "Oh, you should have this, that." The next thing, if you've not got the finance to do, after you're blowing the face, I'm sure Clemente will know players that he could put and sit right there. Because, if not a young boy, Conor Baum, who's played in the game, he'll still need that guidance. Yeah, 100%. He'll need all that guidance as well. And Barry spoke about a young boy, another young midfield player, who thinks, "He'll need that guidance and that help and that organite, especially if you've lost a lickshaw. I could never really play last year." But Lundstrom was there. I'm not sure that's a type of character, but he was a presence. He was physical. He was on that pitch. I mean, I'm saying experienced, I'm not saying a 33-year-old, and a 34-year-old gets from the end, 27-28, who's been about, played at a decent level. And doesn't that have been the best football player, but he'd go in there and he'd keep coach, he can pull people about. Is that Kenny McLean throwing the number? No, his name was getting mentioned about it. I'm not sure he's at the center. But listen, Kenny's a good player, no doubt about it, and listen, but I'll wait what he's done in his career. It's a man up to her, but then, and he's done really well at Norwich, you'll know better than anybody. But I just think, no, I think you need that number, sick, that pivot, with that anchor. It's just because he played center half in captain in Orange recently. And I'm just thinking, well, instead of all that running forward, could they play in front of them and be an organizer for them? Now, I've not seen enough of them, obviously. They've changed their positions, obviously, Norwich. But I knew it was a name that was getting mentioned by Angels, but he's got a character about him as well. He's a good personality. But I'll tell you, you need all the things as well, to play for Rangers, not just a talent. You've got to be a bit of a personality around about you. And I know, by all the countries, they're Angels supporter as well. And he's at that stage in his career. There's not many chances to play for Rangers. And it may be somebody like that. Maybe not the best player in the world. And that's not been disrespectful. But the character and the organizer and the guy can take that little bit of pressure. But now you're starting to see it more a wee bit with Sam Lamers, Connor Goshen. Yep, you're starting to see, is it Churney, who's a command back love Churney. Yeah, I'm 26 years old. They sent a half today, it's come through the door. And now, it's looking toward Cantwell. There's a few suitors after him, I think, when they get a bit of money in there, then they'll go and reinvest it into the squad. Because if you listen to John Bennett's interview, well, you can't keep losing 10, 10 and a half million pound every single season. And just looking for the now. You do need to look to the future, but also, you need to look here and now Rangers need to win. Rangers need to win trophies. And to help these young guys, and I like the model that they're going for, but to help these young guys progress, and Lam, they do need to bring in a bit of experience. Nothing about a tangent, Paul, OK? Churney, if I go about it, I'm not going to go on with it. Yeah, I said he should have been in the squad going into the Euros, because I think his good movement plays up the line. Barry's tall, but Rangers need a centre forward. You know, he pulled out a certain game, and he seemingly wants to leave Bristol City, he's told him that sort of thing. For me, I know, look at that, he would score goals in Scotland, whether he's Celtic or Rangers, and he would score goals in Scotland. There is absolutely doubt in my mind that he's another striker that's out there. But one, he's under 21 still. So he would make him money, so it doesn't matter whether it's Celtic's model, or Rangers model, he would score goals, and he's got the talent to do that. I'm going to take a quick break, then we're coming back. Kenny McLean, guess what age he is? - 32. - 32. You're getting mixed up. This is the Gordio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Let's go! Wednesday evening, the Gordio Football Show, Paul Cooney, Barry Ferguson. And Peter Grant, lots of comments coming in about the suggestion. The first hour, Lynne and Miller, should the old firm swoop, would Celtic come in and get him? It was Peter's suggestion in the first hour of the programme. And Barry mentioned them who do well for Rangers. And four Rangers, they've signed Robin Propper this afternoon from the Netherlands, so a bit of movement at Ibrox, on top of Cherney signing last week in news yesterday, of course, that kind of goes and is going to Aris Limasau. And Todd Cantwell up for sale? - I'm just looking at 30 years of age. - Mm-hmm. - So obviously an experience. - Yeah. Sorry, sent a bike, so no rangers are tied by the model for long-term, buying young players to obviously make a profit later on. So it's interesting to see that they've signed Propper, who's an experienced centre-back at the age of 30. - You know that yourself, right? - Yeah. When you're building for Celtic all-ringers, you have to keep winning. - Yeah. - There is absolutely no doubt about that. You don't get any window to try and say, "Well, we'll try and get a play for next year or 10 years for now." It doesn't matter, you have to keep winning while you're trying to do that, and you'll need that help. You know, you've got to have a backbone straight through your side. There is absolutely no doubt about that. And that's probably what Celtic have been ahead of. And you've seen that last year when Celtic lost a couple of players through injury, important players, how quickly it can change. And that's the fine line, but you do definitely need to have people run about you, you know you can put your jacket on and say, "He's going to be there. If we need to fight and scratch and bite "and some days it's going to be like that, can they do it?" And a lot of young boys are slightly different for them nowadays. They don't really, I don't know, it's probably been negative. They don't really need to do that nowadays, you know, it sounds strange. But you had to fight for everything. You've won the given innocent, you've got to earn that. I think sometimes you've got experienced porcelain about you. And I think we talk about pre-season, that's when the experienced pros and the youngsters have got to look at them and see how is, say, for Calla McGregor, what does Calla McGregor do every day? What does he do on the training pitch? What does he do off the pitch? What does he eat? What does he drink? Does he go to bed? Does he go for an app and that? All the simple things, that's all the things that you've got there learning. And when it's a group of youngsters, they all do the same thing. They may be in and maybe play a playstation. I don't know, but in other days, I would just focus on in the senior players like Danny McGree and God rest on the Tommy Bonzi. I just focus, let me see what he does. And then everything else, football, trying to take care of itself, but all the other things, they were the important things I had to learn. And you mentioned the great Tommy Barnes there. And Peter, we spoke last night, we were so sorry. Everyone was shocked to hear about Rosemary. You were so close to Tommy and Rosemary, you and Lorraine. And I know you have read, you did a reading at the funeral, just a little week ago. Yeah, that was a tough read away on Paul, but, it's the same just going to be there for the family now, that's it. We're going to look after the kids. I mean, she's up there with Tommy now, thank God. And the two were having some laugh up there, that's for sure. Back in April, you get an island in the stream. And we're firing on there to the three. Yeah, and that's back in Bogas, you know. It was ironic. Paul, I swear to God, there was an unbelievable couple of years after being at Rosemary's house, and it was driving back in the car, and what came on was that it was so real, actually. But as I say, it was a massive shock to everyone. But as I say, she's up there with the great Tommy now. So I'm sure they'll be glad to see each other. All those thoughts with the family. And that's where football comes together. Barry, we spoke about last night in the programme with Craig Moore and with Andy, who was also at the funeral. And every time we think of Tommy Burns and his family in Walter, I'll always get that image of Walter there with Ali carrying the coffin of Tommy. And Tommy was so young, as we remember, when he passed away. Yeah, somewhat up carefully, football comes together. Yeah. And in times of sadness, sadly, people pass away. And that's when you see... It's good to see. Well, it was ironic, I don't know if the kids weren't born or seen this, but, you know, right at the house the next day, one of the first floors was there was from an English football club. You know, so, there are things that we could all fight and scratch and more want to beat each other, but it comes to that. But, oh, you know, and that's the most important thing, but it was a very nice gesture, I'm sure the kids were really thankful of that. I know. And I remember 2008, Barry, when you, you know, the pinnacle the day before, you know, you're a Manchester in the Europa final, and then afterwards, come back up the road, and you've lost the game as we know. But you went straight to the seltic park. Yeah, it's phenomenal. One day ago, the bus that was the gaffer at the time, obviously, I bought a smith. And obviously, we were disappointed in losing the night before, not ideal. You're unhappy, but, no, everybody had no issues whatsoever about travelling and the bus to seltic park. And I hope people listening realize this, you know, look at the rivalry between, you know, you're in the blue, you're in the green, but you come together as a respect. And I think people think this, they say to me, it's like, what's it like when you get the top players as you were up against each other? It's like a great respect. They got on well. And there'll be some people in your team that you maybe weren't that close with, and you didn't maybe like as much, but it's not because they're blue or green. They're all different, but there's a humanity, and I wish they'd kill each other in the pitch. Yeah, they'd kill each other on the pitch, but I can honestly say, I never had one moment for a great way any of the guys that I played against, never ever been off the pitch if we met each other, you'd have beer or whatever, you were low and whatever. You'd always sort most respect, and I think that was all, that was always important. Listen, that was handy doing it, it was with a great bill, I mean, Neil's know that, and all the people before that, because they were all great friends with the Rangers players as well. So, for us, it was just natural, yes, we're competitive, yes, we wanted to beat each other, we wanted to batter each other on that pitch. You knew it, you wanted everything, you know, but once you got off the pitch, you put your hands up, you shake hands, you got off the pitch as quickly as you can. Enjoy the moment if you want. Yeah, it's crazy, I mean, a few people mentioned, they may have done already taking out the Scottish Cup. Yeah, that's right. And obviously, the Rangers players have come in and wish them all the best, and five or six Celtic players come over. The ones that you kind of know Joe Big Joe obviously, because he was an expert. They make Kyle McGregor, I wasn't there wishing them all the best, right? No, I didn't know how you did. And then, obviously, Tim, Tim Owens in the Celtic physio, who worked at Birmingham, was there, and he was walking by Brendan Rodgers, and he had a few lovely watches to say, which is, listen, it's Brendan did. Yeah, I mentioned that. I know he did too, yeah, so that was a nice touch. And there's always respect between them, but it's grand. It says, "Once you cross that white line and that whistle goes, then it's a war." So you still drive his daft in here. We all do with each other, but it's, no. We try to be fair, but to be fair. Indeed, you mentioned the captain, Kyle McGregor, and he's in the papers today, talking about, he was speaking with Celtic TV yesterday. But the pain barrier last year, did you see that? He said, and a ski was asked, on a scale of one to ten, what was the pain like when he came back early to see Celtic through the last couple of months? And he said it was ten out of ten, it was really, really sore. And he couldn't have made it worse, but he didn't, Peter. And my goodness, the history shows you that Celtic won the two trophies available in the spring of 2024. Well, thankful for that, because if you remember, the mistaken aid, you know, on the game, when he's played the ball square, we talked about again, strangers from Rangers, good equaliser, I think it was. You just took a tell, he was moving right, and you didn't want to make it worse. That was a big concern for me as when it's an Achilles problem. It's one of the biggest, one of the most major problems you can have, and you just didn't want it to get any worse. Because he's such a vital player for Celtic and on and off the pitch. You know, and I think you can see that with his presence. And I just think, as the game's went on, you get better and better. And didn't they show you Celtic's performances were much better. When he was involved in that, it's when you're best players are available. And that's all you pray for, and that's all I'm sure the minds will be praying for at this moment in time. They got all their players in, and then they keep the ones they've already got their top players available, because that's how you won trophies, and that's how you won championships. Yeah, he shouldn't have come back. Exactly. He's a proper player. Alex Penone asking you, Barry, who would be Rangers captain for you in this coming season? If James Tavernier goes. I'm not a favourite of it, but I would give Jack, Jack Butler. He's a real presence in the dressing room. You can tell we command respect. It was excellent last year. I know he made a mistake in the Cup final, but listen, overall, I would give it to Jack Butler. If Lauren Shanklin signs, and I know it's a big F, would you make him captain? He's captain of hearts, as you know. Just giving the fact he's an out-fuel player, or... No, I would probably still stick. No, probably I would still stick with Jack Butler. Peter? Listen, I don't look around the Rangers group and think, well, he's a character. You know, as I said, Jack Butler was outstanding for them last year. And I don't like the goalkeeper being the captain, because I think I know Kasper was a captain of Leicester when they won the League and whatever. But I just think trying to get that information, you know, onto the pitch, and the characters it's round about. You know, I know it doesn't matter, but position. I always like a central midfielder, because he can talk to the forwards. He can talk to the backline. He's that sort of manager's eyes and ears on the pitch. And you trust him enough that I'm sure Barry, when he was captain, would see certain things and pull certain players. And without looking to the manager, I've got too many players look off to the manager. Now, you know, you don't need to do that if you know you're rolling, you know, your team makes roll. And I always think that it's better if it's somebody who's in the hub of it, you know, making sure that he can organise that. That's all I can say. In an ideal situation, it would always be a central midfielder and a centre-half on me. Yeah, I agree. But if James does leave, because it's the still question, it's over whether it's going to happen or no, we don't know, he's obviously going to be captain. But if that was the case that you did leave the club, I would give it to Jack. It wouldn't be my deal scenario as a goalkeeper I mentioned. But I just think he does. He commands it and he's very talkative. Yeah, big season for the two keepers. Isn't that Peter? When you look at it, you know, two big characters. Hope people look at it. Absolutely. Yeah, but looking forward to it. It's a funny story, Paul. You're talking about Birmingham. If you remember Big Ali, he was looking for a goalkeeper when Joe went back and Jack was injured as a kid. And Joe went back, obviously. And then Foster came in. It was talking about bringing in Kasper and the goalkeeper coach Dave Watson wasn't 100% behind at the time, because as a youngster, I always remember it was always talking to me. So, I'm not 100% sure if I can. Yeah, that was real time you could sense. And that's fine. And Dave went on to work with England and whatever, you know, it's called the question. That's what I'm saying, David. That's what I'm saying, but it shows you how opinions, you know, you can be wrong at right. But one thing I like about him is the fact that he's got this unbelievable size. He's like his father, but he makes himself big in the goals, you know. But you're told that goalkeepers, you're looking at Jack Butler. Yeah, all these guys could all need enough playing together at that particular time. No, they're sort of the same character. So there's a lot of good young goalkeepers at that particular time. So, I've got another one up now. So, this is going to be interesting to see if Jack's going to lead those group of players. If he has from goals. Countdowns on to the new season. Prediction time for this weekend. Go Radio Football Show, Paul, Kenny, Barry Ferguson and Peter Grant. This time tomorrow night, John Hartson will be here, along with Shelley. Care, the former Scotland boss. So, Jimmy's been on. He's made a good point and look, it's an effort to button her maybe. But can a captain be the person that goes out and speaks to the referee? Because we know the new rules, Barry, it's going to be different this year. Yeah, if it is, this is all I've put in terms of having you. But if it is Jack Butler and as a goalkeeper, it would need to obviously be an outfield player who gets that responsibility. And I'm looking round about, there's a lot of young ones and fun players, but then I'm looking at the new sign-in. Rob and proper. Yeah, he's been a captain. He's obviously very influential in a dressing room, so I'd imagine it could be a guy like him, or I'm trying to think, if Tom Lons may be played. Because he never played a lot, because he obviously injured. But he was a captain at Derby. So, I've been interested to see if that's the case of these scenarios happening. And it is Jack Butler as a captain, who has the player that's going to be designated to go and speak to the referee. But the one that pops out is the new sign-in. Peter, who's going to be the captain? John, sure. Oh, maybe John. Yeah. Who's going to be the captain, winning the title this coming season, then? It's that time of the year where we look at it, Celtic three in a row. Are they going to make it four? What do you feel? Going with the way things sit at this moment, I mean, you could only see, yes, Paul, it is absolutely going to do that. But listen, I told you you've kept the Champions for six weeks, and then you've got to go and pull a jacket back on and go again. And that's what they've got to go and do. And only way you do that is performing. And people would say last year wasn't vintage. They found a way, which is sometimes important, because they were under the caution a little bit from Rangers and not playing particularly well herself. But you've got to have all your players available, your top players, Paul, you've got to have that. People are talking about matter really going, they were talking about how tight they're going. So, there's everything changing. You never know Rangers, maybe it's something. And that's the beauty, football, it changes right up to the 30th of August, I think this year. So, it's the 30th of August. And then during that period, you've got to hope that you've won your games. You keep all your players, you want to keep as much as you possibly can. But more importantly, keep the ones you've kept fully fit, you know. But if I was putting my eye on it just now, you'd have to say something. Barry, you said on Monday and on the paper, you're not going to push the panic button just now in Rangers shouldn't. But it's been a really tough close season. We've talked about it Monday and again last night and tonight. What would you say then for the title for this coming year? Well, I'd say I'd say our favourites. I would. But I'm not going to say that the window's still got another 30 days to go. I still, honest, I believe there's a lot of outgoings and income and going to be happening over the next four weeks. And then I'll kind of have a look at it. But, listen, I've got to say, sitting here is an extraneous captain. Look, you've got to get into the season believing that you can wrestle the title. Because if you don't think like that, well, pack your bags and off you go. I mean, I would take that. I've heard that in the dressing room. I would crack up. I have got to believe it. Yeah, things I know all plain sailing at this moment in time. But you still have to have the mindset that bang, I'm going to hate to win this. Because if you've got any other thoughts, see you later. Because you've both played elsewhere, where sometimes people go, "Oh, I draw today. That's a good, decent result." Well, I don't know how good that is. I was interested that, obviously, at Blackburn and Birmingham, when you do a game, you get kind of plodied. And I kind of couldn't get that. No, I mean, when I was coming off, I'm tanking myself. I used to get absolutely docked. But I enjoyed that, say, cos that was putting pressure on yourself. It's just a bit winning, winning, winning, winning. No matter what age you are, it's a bit winning. I just give back to, I've got told you this story before. When of the first games, we'd stoke away and stoke when they're 20% up at 30%. So, we're doing well now, and the baddies is a clam. You can't address them. The players are talking a bit, "Where are we going tonight?" And all that sort of stuff. And I started kicking all the baggage and all that, and effing and blinding at them and saying, "What are you doing?" "No one will be about fourth or fifth. "Was it that particular time?" "Now, could you see them?" "Well, look at me as if I were coming to another planet." And no, went out to address them. And I'm stoking there, stoking like a big baby, you know, and might walk up to them and say, "That's why you're here." 'Cause that's what's expected it. Self to football club, it's doing all the time. But let me let you understand, as Barry says, a draw away from home in England is like winning. He said, "I know the place you came from. "That's just not unacceptable." He said, "That's why we're trying to bring that to the group." And you're thinking, "Okay, I was 34, 35 at the time, "don't get me wrong." So, that was the way I should, and Barry's right. Any draw away from home in England, for any team is known as a good point. It's all about winning. A draw is no good enough. A defeat is, well, it's an absolute disaster. And that's the way, as I said, Paul, of I'm sitting in there and you're looking about and thinking, "Oh, we need strength." But listen, I'm thinking about one thing, and it's time to cancel. Well, Barry, I'm assuming you look at the group, the new. I mean, I'm no asking Paul's question, but you look at the Rangers, group the new. Can you see that group? No, it needs to be strength. That's what we're trying to look for in your galvanise, and somebody's saying, "Hey, come on, we're playing hearts at 10 castle. "This is like a cocktail." Yeah, honestly, thanks for the game. I've got the players like that. See, the game I have to tell with 10 castle and Saturday, I think it's one of these ones. Listen, guys, we just need to get in a bit. I don't think it's going to be a brilliant football game because I know hearts are at home. 10 castle, brilliant stadium. The picture will be like a bowling green. Rangers need to scrap for this. They'd be licking your lips if I was hearts. If I was hearts, I'd be licking my lips in. Rangers don't know what other players are, and they'll know that this one, they don't know who's playing here, they don't know who's playing here. We've got to go for it. You know, I think Rangers don't go for it. I think Rangers don't go for it. The Rangers have got to be the ex-opposite. We've got to go and show what you've got. I'm just a bit of character. If I'm sitting in a nasty that first fixture, I'm like, "Oh, my favourite." Honestly, going there, right in top of you, you can feel them breathe on, yeah. It's a brilliant place to play. You should be excited going into that at half-12. That's the brewery next to you. You can always smell that. You can, can you? Oh, so, hearts rangers then. What an opener to the season, 12.30 on Saturday. What do you reckon, buddy? Paul, it has to be a win. It's got to be a win. No other result, a draw or a defeat, so unthinkable. Rangers need to go and find a way whether that's playing nice football, which I don't think will be scrap, fighting, biting, whatever it takes. You come away for 10 castle with three points in the bag. I don't care how you play, Peter, what do you think? Two-one hearts, do you? Yeah? Yeah. I was about to say to Barry in the Shankland score, and who fought? I mean, we're only three days away, so... Listen to that, I said that. So, there's every possibility because his heart's best player. And you keep him quiet, you don't give him an inch, you've got a chance of winning again. Peter thinks two-one hearts. And if it was the case then, you think it probably would be Shankland. I'm going to go horrible one now, Rangers. I just think two-one, because I just think in the areas of the picture managers brought a new centre back today, so it's telling you that he's probably, as you're going to play it, of course, you would think he's been up to speedway game time in '20, at this moment in time anyway, so you'd think they'd come in. But when you're going to hearts, you have to be ready. That can surprise you, you know, which they're expectationing about. That's why I think hearts have got a chance to sneak in to someone. You know what you're corrupt against, you know what they are going to... You didn't... I was trying to get that across, because you've got enough players there, that's the point I'm making. I'd be saying it in the dressing room, I'd be saying it in the warm-up, and it would be absolutely sick, I mean, shut up. No, this is the big one. That's the point I'm making. Who's Barry Ferguson in there? I don't think they've got enough of that, and that's why I think it'll be an upset. They start this one. I'm not saying that's going to be all an end-all, they're good, just when you're other players and maybe slightly all be different. But I just think, because there's such a turnaround in the room, I don't think this is the game that Ranger would be wanting to leave in the hand in now. But different time casts will fight, scratch, bite. You have to be able to do that first before you have any chance you win in the game. Could there be more signings for Rangers before Saturday? Well, there could be, do you think there will be, Barry? Yeah, there's high possibility, Paul. No doubt about that. I think the Champions League did lines tomorrow. I believe for signing, so that there could be... I'd like to see, hopefully, maybe another one. But that's depending on guys getting out of the door, Paul. Any chance of shankling? Listen, I would go for it right now. It could be... You do it now, but it could be before Saturday. We spoke about it yesterday, it's a no-brainer for me. Well, if that's the case, then it'll change, wouldn't it? Yeah, we're not good. I know. Because it's going to change. You know, that's the difference. That's why I think when Rangers are not off getting picked, they're sent her back. So, at this moment in time, that causes a problem. You know, defence of an organisation. Mobile against Ross County. We'll talk about these games more tomorrow night, but... What do you reckon, Peter? I've went for 1-1. You've got for 1-1 on that one, yeah? Because, 'Mother will Barry win good'... No, I think it wasn't happy. Yeah. I'm glad you're not on each. OK. And then, on Sunday, three games on Sunday, have passed one at Tannadise, Darby's back. We love that. Peter, we spoke about it Monday night. Who do you fancy? I've went for Dundee to win 3-1. - Away from home? - Yeah, 200 yards away. Because Simon body's involved. Of course. What a signing he could be. Traffic signing for them, I just think. They got up and running, you've been desperate. I know he's played for Dundee and I did. You've been desperate, he's a Dundee boy, Dundee supporter, and I think it's a traffic signing. - Barry? - Yeah, I'm going for Dundee in this one. St. Murray against Hibbs. I'm going to go to St. Mann, right? Yeah. I'm going to go to St. Mann. I'm going for St. Mann as well. I've won now, even though I've got the European game. I've went for St. Mann one now. And then Celtic against Comannock as we've been hearing. Brendan Rogers speaking exclusively with Skye. We're talking about the game with Kelly. Exactly the same, I think. Derek's team is always well organised and competitive. So we'll expect exactly the same. For us, again, it's very much about ourselves dealing with how we want to work and how we want to play. And obviously it's a home game for us, so we want to start well and start the season. They're really good performance. What do you reckon, Barry? - What's going to happen? - Yeah, I agree with you, Cesar. I think Comannock, obviously, the game tonight. I think they're sorry tomorrow. I think they'll go, they'll try and make it tough, but I think opening day, you know what it's like, unveiling the flag, players will be in the high. I think Celtic will be too strong. I'm going to go 3-1, Celtic. And a way trip in Europe is always tough, isn't it, as well? Peter, what do you reckon? Are you there? - Yes, I am. - Yes, I am. I've got 2-0 Celtic. I just think, Derek will say, "I'm not here to enjoy the party." You know, he'll try and make it as a possible account for Celtic. And they have done, but performance have done a part for the last one, down at Cali, but Celtic were brilliant and blew them away. And I just think, in these games, you know, Celtic have been outstanding through precision, but I've seen all that before, but I've went 2-0 Celtic. Adam Ida, will you be in? Do you think, before the end of the window, what do you reckon? - Yes. - You do think, yeah. I just think the way the talk was about Norwich, I just think, not more coming from Celtic than it's about. I just think the way things are going on in Norwich at this moment in time. And I think it'd be good for them as well. And it'd be a good business, fantastic business for Celtic, a good business for Norwich as well, because if the kid doesn't want to be there, it's always difficult. It seems a while, Oasis and Johnson Aberdeen will talk about that in the coming days. Barry, how much are you looking forward to this season? It's not minimising what's going on, but, you know, you've come back with a bounce looking forward to it. Yeah, listen, it's no bad ideal pre-season, but I've been involved in enough pre-season. They realise that it doesn't always go according to a plan. They're still a fair bit of work to be done at Rangers, but, listen, I'm looking forward to it, and your mindset has always got to be at the start of the season, as you have to wrestle that trophy back off Celtic. Whatever way you do it, just do it. - Pizza, how much you're looking forward to it. - Oh, yeah. It's going to be tough, cos I still expect Celtic to make a few decent signings. Well, if the play as well as they've done throughout pre-season, Paul, they've been outstanding. You know, so, if they continue that, I'll be delighted and we'll look forward, and everybody will enjoy watching them. That's how good they've been, you know, and hopefully they can keep on to their best players. I know that's not always possible, but I'd like them to keep matting out, even though you're getting signings in, but I know that's not always possible, but I'm sure the boys will bring in. If they can bring and make the group stronger as Barry'll always tell you, it's the most important thing. Listen, thanks for tuning in, everyone. You get the downloads as well. In huge numbers, people enjoying the show. Peter, thanks so much. - It's a pleasure, Paul. To you too, Barry, we'll see you in a few days. News is next, see you tomorrow night at five. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go. Let's go!
