The Wednesday edition, Gwen and Chris Chrisello, Tony Gwen Jr. down at Petco Park, where the excitement never ends. Padre's Dodgers game two of this two game series tonight. Matt Scrabies alongside here in the Odyssey Palace. As we get together and talk a little sports with you on San Diego's number one sports talk station, 97-3, the fan. Great to have you with us out there today. Let's get right to it. I mean, Tony, last night, once again, and it's a trade deadline, and everything going on around this ball club and the acquisition and the excitement of Tanner Scott being acquired. And Jason Adam was in uniform for the first time, and Padre's are set in sale for a run-to-the-play-offs. Everybody's excited, everybody's going crazy, and then wham. The Dodgers get five in the top of the first inning. But I got to be honest with you, I never once thought the Padre's were out of this game. And it's been this way almost all season long. They don't always come back and win the game. Sunday and Baltimore, they came up a run short, but this team keeps on fighting. They keep finding magical ways to get it done. Yeah, Chris, I mean, this team is at this point in the year, this is who they are. And they've shown that throughout the course of the year in different ways. As you mentioned, they don't always win them, but they play every out. And yes, last night was no different. Last night was an embodiment of really this ball club, right? I mean, everything from Waldron kind of centering himself after the five in the first. You know, to late in that game, you get, or one of your better hitters giving himself up, laying down a butt. You got Croninworth getting pinch hit for for Donovan Solano. No issues standing on the top steps. Lionel getting the job done. I mean, and I mean, Manny is starting to be Manny and I'll continue to say this. And I know Manny gets a lot of flack, but this team goes as he goes. When he is going well, wins come along with it. And right now, he's going well and wins are coming along with it. He was pretty good last night, Manny. I mean, come on. Okay. The guy bombs the homerun, which kind of just sent the signal right off the bat that the problem is not going to go away quietly, right? Makes it five one. Then when it looks like they're going to run out of time, all right, he homers again. And all of a sudden now you get three shots at it with the time run coming to the plate and Blake trying and kind of wondering whether his stuff is really playing. And Jackson Merrill touches him up and ties the game. And the other thing Manny did last night was make two of his better defensive plays of the year. Yes, he did. And, you know, I just look, he's, he's, he's incredible. I am so, I'm so mad at myself. And I've said this a few times now this year, I'm so mad at myself and everybody else out there ought to be mad at themselves for doubting him as often as it seems like people do. The season is still got two months to go and guess where he's headed, everybody? Thirty home runs, 90 RBIs, 270 batting average, gold glove defense as advertised. As sure as you will have an email the next day, I don't care what email man, he was going to have 30 and close to a hundred. That's just you can go ahead and book it. That's exactly where he's headed right now. I mean, as we go that, we can go really up and down that lineup. Louisa rise, by the way, playing with a jacked up thumb that's giving him issues, balling. He led, he, he, he was a part of that message, you know, that the Padres weren't going away. You keep going down the line. Jerry's a pro far. I mean, we don't, we don't need to keep going about this dude. He's having that type of years, Andrew Bogart, who, you know, didn't have his better game yesterday. That's good. Jake has had his moments at your house. Although numbers are down, he's leading his team in walks. He's finding other ways to help this ball team, ball team, ball team. Yeah. Or ball club. Ball club is what I was looking for. Jackson Merrill. I mean, the kid is just, he's just, he's got ice, ice water in his veins, man. He just doesn't, doesn't, doesn't rattle cow gosh yoga. I mean, we, the Padres have all up and down this lineup, up and down the lineup, up and down the bench have been phenomenal. And then yesterday, I thought the other thing that was, was on display was that bullpen. And you only, you didn't even get, you know, a couple of the arms that we're anticipating, right? Um, we didn't get to see the, the, one of the, the, the new, the new shiny toys, but everybody else came in match, who he's starting to look like he's, he going, he going to be in some high lever spots, colic through the ball well, despite the two walks, found his way out of that. Moria Hone. And this is something that I've been, it's been latched you all year. There were times in the past when Adrian were getting trouble and it would just unravel. He gets into trouble now. And you can see it when, when Ruben comes out to talk to you, you can see the confidence in his, in his face. He pitches well. The last B pitch as well, Estrada Suarez and he was able to go to those guys because you know what? He's got reinforcements because they were, that was a tie ball game in down when he went to Estrada in Suarez. Yeah. So that is just, it was a lot on display yesterday, a good victory for him. Mind you, this is a depleted Dodger team, but nonetheless it was a good victory for Padres. Well, it's, uh, the excitement just continues to, to be there this year, Tony. I, I keep talking about a magical season that maybe now it's starting to be an overused phrase a little bit, but first of all, you get 47,000 and change the all time, largest crowd ever to see a Padra game in Petco Park. So you, you start with that on a night like that with everybody just amped up and then you win the game in the fashion that you win it. When you talked about the home runs in the ninth inning, obviously you can't do it without them, but the 10th inning was a master class. Yes, it was. We couldn't do that. We couldn't have that inning if we tried a billion times last year. Right. Last year they would have never executed any of that stuff, but this year, you know, you, first of all, Suarez pitches a lights out top of the tent, two strikeouts and a flyball. So they don't even come close to getting their ghost runner in. And that opens a door for the Padres to start with the runner at second base. Agashio could draws a walk. And now in this situation, you've got Luis a rise, a two time batting champion, maybe going to be a third. And Mike Schilt has to decide does he want to have him bunt or does he want to try and win the game here with a rise to get a base hit lefty on lefty. He chooses bunt. Now he chose bunt because he knew that Dave Roberts would then intentionally walk jerks and pro far to load the bases. But Mike Schilt also knew that he had an ace up his sleeve and he was going to bring Donovan Solano into pinch it against the lefty and I think that's shock Dave Roberts and he was awesome with Dave Roberts didn't know it. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. It was really well done. And then of course you can do everything right. Your players still have to deliver and Solano delivers the big hit. You're so right about Croninworth. There's not a lot of number three hitters in all of baseball that would be taken out of a game for a pinch hitter with the game on the line and seem okay with it. Yeah. And I know he wasn't okay with it because he's a competitor. He's a gamer, but he did what he needed to do. And now as you said, get right up on the top step and cheer on Solano. 100%. That was exactly what he did. And of course Donovan comes through as he pretty much seems to us all the time. And I just, you know, this, this team is, there's a long, there's still a long way to go. Yesterday was game 109. Yeah. They won today's game 110, we got 52 to go. So that being said, there, that's a lot of ball games, 52 ball games is a lot. Yeah. To give me about 45 more like that one. And we're going to, I don't know if I want 44, but I might not be able to take it back. I mean, this is, you know, you talk about the comparison to last year. Last year they got a walkoff victory in the first home stand of the year against Arizona. And then they won until basically the season was over in late September. Now they have seven walkoff wins this year at home. They've only won 27 games at home. So one out of every four games has carried with it, that kind of thrill. And you know, for the fan base, for the organization, for the players, for the teams, this season is hopefully, you know, really turning into something special Tony. We did see Jason Adam last night in terms of he was in uniform. I was going to say, no, I don't have him on my scores. No, I know you don't. I, I'm assuming he would have pitched the 11th inning, but I don't know for sure. It had gone that far, but you brought this up and it's an important note to make. Jason Adam and now with Tanner Scott, you know, becoming, you know, here shortly. That was the key in a lot of ways last night because it allowed shilt to use Moira home in the seventh, Estrada in the eighth, and Suarez in the ninth because he wouldn't have normally done that when he was losing. And who knows? Even up a couple of more runs game would have been over, but he was able to go to a shut down threesome even in a game they do is behind and chase the victory. And the reason he can do that is because now he has so many more weapons to choose from. Yeah, it was more to home. Gillespie. Oh, that's the last pitch, right? Right. Right. Suarez. And that, yes, speaks of what you're talking about. He knew he knew he had reinforcements and, you know, for that group to go out and they still had to throw up zeros. The doctors did not score after the first inning. And so it doesn't just include those last three guys. It also you have, listen, Matsui and Cola have been on the wrong end of some of these where they come in in that situation and in the lead expands. They did their job and they did it well last night. And you know, I just think that this ball club as it pertains to the pitching part is set up really well. There are still questions with the starting rotation. I think Waldron has proved that you're going to be able to get some innings out of him. Clearly Dylan has clearly King has. They're going to be mindful of those of those situations moving forward. But those guys are going to have to continue to pitch to as well as they had. And one last point I'll make I take you back to game one of this of that road trip. The Padres are down one nothing going into the ninth or going into the eighth, right? They give up Cola cast to come in. They get give up what five, six runs in that inning. Yeah, it ends up looking a lot worse. The reason why he couldn't go to Suarez even though it was fresh off the break, he didn't have those reinforcements. That's right. And as it turned out, it was good he didn't use them on that day because those guys would end up getting a lot of work on that road trip. And so it just goes to show you how much the dynamics change now that they have reinforcements and how much different. And I'm not saying that he's going to chase a win like that every night or he's going to chase it in the fashion that he chased it every night by him. I mean Mike Schill, but it gives him the option to be able to do it because ultimately you're trying to balance right getting there and also being ready when you get there. And I think that's where hopefully Vasquez continues to improve Martine Perez when he gets here, helps in terms of getting those innings because that's ultimately what you're trying to do. You're trying to get to the finish line and then be ready for the finish line. I think yesterday's, you know, the way they approached yesterday was indicative of that. Well, there's another game tonight and you almost can't imagine it being any more exciting, you know, than what we had last night and what we've had recently. But Dylan sees his pitching tonight. His first start since the no hitter don't want to be the guy to jinx it before it ever gets started. But every time somebody comes off a no hitter, they have a chance to throw another one. That's not happened in baseball except for one time previously and that was 1938. Yeah. So Dylan sees, he'll be looking to make a little history beyond that. The Padres, if they went tonight, Tony, they will clench the season series over the Dodgers. For the first time since you were there in 2010, it's been 13 long years, baby. So, you know, yeah, I mean, yeah, you owned them that year, but for 13 straight years, they've owned the Padres, at least in the regular season. So, you know, to me, there's, there's a lot to be had tonight. It's going to be another amazing atmosphere out at the ballpark. And we're looking forward to Padre Base, Paul Sam live it as the pregame show at 440 this afternoon. All right, we're underway. Chris Elo, Tony Gwen Jr., down at Petco Park. We've got a Padre pen pals for you, a little PPP coming up. We've got a big five coming up. We'll do a little Chris versus the fans. We'll get it all done before we go to pregame show, Padres baseball later on. Great to have you with us. Gwen and Chris, San Diego's number one sports talk station, 97 three, the fan. Hi, Chris Elo, Tony Gwen Jr. down at Petco Park, Padres and Dodgers an hour earlier tonight than normal. In case you weren't aware of that, game will start at 5.40 this evening. So everybody get off work an hour early, maybe get off an hour and a half early. Tell them you're going to the ball game. Tell them you've got things to do. They'll be back at 8.30 tomorrow morning, but you know, you got a game to get to. You're going to go see the ball team. Tell the ball team as Tony calls them. Yeah. Tell the boss you got some Padres action to take in tonight and they should understand. Yes, you'll get to that that file tomorrow. Yeah, exactly. The file can wait. The file can wait. Sam Levitt's pregame show gets underway at 4.40 this afternoon. Now with the earlier start, we don't, you and I don't get as much of Tony on the show because he's already down getting ready for the ball game, getting his pregame stuff together and interviewing players and Mike shilt down in the dugout. So we will hear from Tony a little bit on the, on the big five, but we're not going to have a whole lot of Tony today. Scrappy and I'll take you through a Padre pen pals coming up in about 20 minutes. I'm sure there's a ton of questions in the wake of the trade deadline. Some acquisitions. Yep. We'll have a daily gambit for you. We will have Chris versus the fans and it's all coming up between now and 4.40. So stick around for some fun with the last night, last night at a rare opportunity, a rare opportunity and it is rare. Here's how this works normally, Scrappy. From a national radio show, like the ones that we have here on CBS Sports Network, or maybe elsewhere, but other national sports radio shows, I actually don't think, I might go ahead. Sorry. There's others. But anyway, CBS Sports, you know, is what airs on our station when we're one of our shows isn't on the air. So CBS Sports, whoever it is national show, they like to talk to the local, the local people, you know, get the local angle on things. That's the best way to do it. It's a good way to do it. So when they call this station to have somebody come on and probably talk about the Padres, here's normally what happens. They go, is Tony Gwen Jr. available? Yep. And if Tony isn't available, they go, all right, thanks. We'll try again later. Like they don't bother to say, well, what about the other guy? You know, what about this Chris Elo guy? Elo. Does he want to come on? They never even ask. Well, they probably, right? They never ask. I don't do rude. I don't. It's rude. I don't do any national interviews. And it's not because I'm against doing them. They just don't ask. They ask for Tony. If he's not available, that's it. Last night, I want to thank the fine folks at the Bart Winkler show. I like Bart Winkler. You do. He follows. He's been on the Scravey show. And he follows you when the Scravey Chronicles are on. Yes. If there's no Padre based ball, you can hear Bart Winkler and his show called yesterday. And I'm sure they asked for Tony. And Adam Klug said, sorry, he's not available. He's doing a game. And they said, well, what about that Chris Elo guy? So they put me on. And it was a lot of fun. I had a good time last night. They actually called me Chris Elo, which is always half the battle to get my name pronounced right. So I was pleased by that. But he asked one of the things he was missing. What were the national questions? Well, the national question is, come trade deadline. What's it like at your radio station? Because AJ Preller's always involved. And I said, well, both Tony and I and my producer Matt Scravey, we just tie ourselves down because we want to make sure that AJ doesn't trade us somewhere. Oh, he would throw me in. I know that. He only gets you get you a player to be named later. I'm surprised you're not on your way to Miami today after everything that went down yesterday. But yeah, AJ, of course, is going to make a bunch of trades. And he looked that he just wanted to know what the what the field was here in town. You know, after we acquired Tanner Scott and I told him the truth. I think it's based on our input that we got on this show yesterday from phone callers. It was all very positive. He was very excited about this. Everybody's like, let's go. You know, the time is now. Yeah, let's do it. Now we traded, you know, we spent a lot, but we got a lot. And now we have a shot, you know, to go all the way and people are excited by that. But that wasn't the only angle. The other angle was from people who said, what are we doing? We've now traded 12 of our top 15 prospects this season. We have no miner's league system left at all. And we didn't get the kind of starting picture we wanted to get. We got one. Martine Perez. Maybe he comes in and catches a little lightning in the bottle, but I'm going to be consciously hopefully. Yeah. But his statistics, statistics do not indicate that he's going to come in and be great. But you know, it's going to be better than Rich Hill, right? I hope so. I don't like the fact that he's coming from the same franchise that Rich Hill came from. But no, they didn't get what they really set out to get. They had to pivot and you know, they've strengthened this bullpen, but in doing so, they've now traded away pretty much the farm to make a run out of this year. So there's people who think both ways and that was kind of what I touched on. But the biggest thing to me yesterday was reading a little deeper into Tanner Scott. And as I said on the round table today, there's an old business saying, Scrabby. And you know, me, I'm a big business guy. Oh, yes. You're an MBA. Yeah. But there is an old business saying that goes something like this. We don't care what it costs. We just care what it'll make. Okay. The point to that is if you spend a lot, it's okay as long as you make a ton on the other side. And I think that's AJ Preller's thinking here. He spent a lot, but the reward could be a trip to the World Series that could be a trip to somewhere we, you know, many of us believe we'll never get to, which is a championship for heaven's sake. So if that is the outcome, the pottery is in the World Series. Every one of us out there would agree that they didn't, they didn't spend too much. They're, you know, if you end up getting that, then you didn't spend too much. And here's what they got in Tanner Scott. And I mentioned this yesterday, Scrabby. They got the guy who leads baseball in ERA over the last two years combined. So not just a, not just a flash in the pan, but for two years, over a hundred innings, he is the ERA leader in all of baseball. He gives up a 096 batting average this year, 096 teams aren't even hitting a hundred off the sky. And he hasn't given up a run since June 17th. That's good. The guy's pretty good. Yes he is. Well, we really got ourselves something here. He is in San Diego. He talked to the media a little earlier. Let's hear a little bit about what he had to say as he arrives here on the scene. And first up from Tanner Scott, his initial reaction to the trade. Tanner, welcome to San Diego. How's it feel to be a pottery? Oh, it feels great. It feels great. I mean, especially coming with that guy over there, it's, it's an awesome feeling. And then I got to see Louis arrived. So that's, that's a great sight. Does that help coming over to new ball cut, but having some familiar faces in the clubhouse right away. Oh, definitely. I mean, you faced a lot of them now, your teammates. So it's, it's kind of, kind of cool. No surprise I would imagine for you that you got traded. I mean, there were a lot of rumors going over on the far left side of things, but still they, they'd catch you off guard in any way and what were your thoughts when you found out it was a pottery that you're going to be able to. Oh, I mean, I was, I was super excited when I found out the Padres traded for me. And, uh, yeah, I knew I was going to kind of get to be traded. It was talks for a while and I mean, I'm really excited to be here and get out there. It's fun to find yourself in a playoff situation once again. Oh, yeah. Definitely. The playoffs sounds a lot nicer. Like, if you give me a thought to the strength of this bullpen when you, when you look at the group of arms that you guys have collected over here now, I don't know what it's going to be like to be a part of it. I mean, there's a lot of great arms and, and, uh, yeah, it's going to be fun. It's going to be fun to see everyone throw and get out there and piggy challenge brains and go about it. Yeah. Louis mentioned that you were one of his best friends on the moment, what's it like to be back with him and how long until he FaceTime do you guys do what I'm trading with down? Oh, yeah. He tried calling me. I was like, Louis, not right now. And then I texted him this morning and I mean, he's a, he's a great guy and he's a, he's a really happy guy to be around. So it was great to see him and I gave him a big hug when I got to see him. All right, special guest appearance there by Bob Scanlon, rapid fire. Bob Scanlon just ripping the questions off there for Tanner Scott, but, uh, yeah, the lefty comes here and, uh, I would imagine since he's here. Put me in coach. Yeah. Right. You ought to be available to pitch tonight. And, you know, that's what we talked about in the open. Last night you used more to home. You used a strata, you used Suarez, you used almost everyone else. You use colic. You lose foresight. You lose, uh, Logan Gillespie, I'm sorry, Gillespie, you lose, you used, uh, uh, Matt Sui. So you know, you might be able to bring one or two of those guys back tonight, but you're certainly not short handed going into the game tonight because you got Jason Adam and Tanner Scott that did not pitch last night. I mean, this is how this bullpen is now, you know, configured. I keep seeing, um, well, first off, I want to say something about what you said about AJ Preller trading away people and everything. He did say in his press conference yesterday that Billy Bean told him you are going to trade possible MVPs. You are going to trade possible, you know, NL contenders. And it's okay as long as you get the return and everything, but, um, there's going to be some roster moves that they have to make and, and I'm not sure who they're going to send down, but I don't really care at the moment. Yeah. Well, as soon as we know, we'll let, let you in on that, uh, they do have to figure out a few things, but, uh, you know, look, it's pretty exciting and it was really exciting when you piggyback the acquisition of Jason Adam on top of the acquisition of Tanner Scott. And then you add to it a thrilling two home run ninth inning that sets up a six, five win and extra innings over your hated rival. I'm with you. I felt like it was pretty awesome. I stuck with that game because I felt like they were going to come back and did I see Manny and Jackson Merrill hitting solo shots in the ninth? Maybe not, but now I will going forward because this is the team that the Padres are. I mean, they've finally got to the point where they're playing really good baseball and they're winning consistently eight and two since the all star break and tonight Dylan sees, goes for a baseball immortality. I mean, I'm asking for a second straight, no hitter, but hey, you know, wouldn't put it past him the way he's been pitching. Keep in mind, he's only given up two hits total in his last three starts, two hits total if he struck up 30 in his last three starts teams against him in the last three starts are two for 67. It's unreal. That is unreal. So who knows what he can do tonight and just for fun to add to the intrigue tonight, you've got the Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw pitching for the Dodgers. I mean, there, there's no place I'd rather be tonight than out at the ballpark, which you will be and I'm going to be absolutely. In fact, I'm leaving right now. So you got the rest of the show. Take care. All right. Here's some talk. Coming up next. Gwen and Chris, we got the PPP Padres pen pals PPP. Okay. And what? Was that too? No, it's just funny. It's just funny. Too harsh. That's coming up. On the scores because the, you know, the wild card race is fluid and all of the teams that the Padres are jockeying for with position are in action or have been in action already today. So we'll duck in some of that for you as we continue here and roll on. So welcome back when Chris has been called us on the round table this morning, Ella and Gwen. I grilling. Thanks a lot, Higgins and Woods. Appreciate that. That's really funny. You know, it's only been the name of our show since day one. Hey, we did start like Chris and Gwen and then it was like, we can't name it that. We couldn't do Chris and Gwen because I was Chris when yeah. Gwen and Chris. Hello, Tony Gwen Jr. down at the ballpark and Matt Scrabie alongside. By the way, I don't know what we're going to do for the next. How long is this that you're gone four days, Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday, wow, four shows without Scrabie while the cats away, the mice will play. I, where are you going? What are you doing here? I'm going to Dubuque Iowa for a, yeah, who wouldn't want to go there? I know for a family reunion, I, out of the three kids, I am the one chosen that I have to go this time to represent the family because I'm the only one without kids. So what, wait, it's a family reunion. Why isn't everybody going? Well, because it's the worst family reunion I've ever heard of. Oh, well, no, it's, it's not the worst family. Well, I mean, not everybody can just pick up and leave and go to Dubuque, Iowa in July, Chris or. No, or should you be able to? Well, this has been in the books for a while because last summer I was going to go to a family reunion, but I didn't end up going because of a lot of crazy stuff. But I'm excited. And then I get to go to Riggly on Monday to see the Cubs play the twins. So I'm really excited. That would be exciting. Never been. Yeah, that would be fun. How far is Dubuque? It's like three hours of Chicago so tomorrow, Chris, you're going to love this. Yeah. So tomorrow we fly and we get there at like 3 p.m. and my parents are from Chicago. So they've made a reservation at Giordano's, which is like the pizza plate. Oh, Chris, one of them went into a new place. That's one of them. Giordano's. It's on the mile. Oh, I know Giordano's. I know it. Well, they have, they have a sweet vinaigrette dressing. Okay. For their salad. Okay. It is so good that I got back from Chicago a few years ago and ordered a case of it to be sent to me in San Diego. Geez, you loved it. That was sweet vinaigrette. So good. All right. I'm not. It's like the house dressing on their, on their salad. So I don't think you even have to order it special. They just put it on the salad. It's unbelievable. Okay. I'm going to do that. Unlike any dressing you've ever enjoyed. Hey, Jocelyn says that that's the reason she likes me so much is because she was born in the exotic, exotic Waterloo, Iowa. She wasn't from Waterloo. Waterloo. Yeah. That's quite a rivalry. Waterloo versus Dubuque. Hey, Dubuque has the hams, Chris. Dubuque hams. The what? Dubuque hams. You've never heard of it yet. You could buy hams or Dubuque hams. They're really special. Yeah. Dubuque is actually a bigger city than you think it is. All right. Well, I'm sure it's big. I'm just, you know, I'm worried about, first of all, I'm worried about you on the plane flight after what happened to Terrell Davis a month or so ago and your ability to lose your cool. Oh, I don't want you to get arrested when you arrive in Dubuque. No. Don't do anything silly. Chris, when I'm in the wild, I pretty much keep to myself when I'm in the wild. When I'm in here, I am a crazy when you're in here and then you act like you're wild. Yes. But in the wild, I kind of just sit in the corner and hope no one looks at me. Okay. Good. Well, make sure you do that on the plane tomorrow. Anything to happen to you, I will, but you got Adam. So yeah, Tony and I'll be here tomorrow. Adam Clue will be filling in for Scrabie. I think Frank will be in for you a couple of times. So we will somehow manage the Atlanta Braves today beat Milwaukee six to two. The St. Louis Cardinals beat Texas today, 10 to one. The New York Mets lost today to the Minnesota. That's great. Eight to three. Arizona is leading Washington five one there in the sixth inning Pittsburgh plays later on at Houston. So as of this exact instant, Atlanta is the wild card leader. Padres are a game behind them. Mets and Arizona are a game and a half St. Louis, two and a half Pittsburgh three. That's how close it is though. Six teams separated by only three games in the standings. Three of the six will make the playoffs. And is it ridiculous? To think, I think I know you're going with the Padres could actually still make a run at the Dodgers. I was going to say we have a Padres pen pal question on that one. All right. Well, we'll get to that. And the other Padre pen pal questions right about now. It's time to ask the experts, Padres fans, I was hoping maybe you can bring a little invite into it. Tweet us Facebook us send a carrier pigeon for Chris he thinks they're cute. Padres pen pals begins hurt the poloka big time. One last thing about my vacation, Chris, I am actually because someone asked in the chat. I'm going to the field of dreams field. It's only 20 minutes from where we're staying. So I'm going to go see it. Never seen it before. It's a whirlwind of activity. I know. Well, there's not much to do. You know what we're doing on Sunday, Chris? Nope. We're taking a what are those little steamboat steamboat on the Mississippi for the heck of air. Are you going to spend any time with your family or you're just going to do stuff? That's on Saturday. All right. Well, have a wonderful time. Thank you. Thank you. On your family reunion vacation, the sourd 97 through the fans brought to you by Express employment professionals. That's express prose.com. All right. So, you know, I thought I was going to get more negative reaction, but I got a lot of positive reaction and I will say this too. I have not yet found an analyst on one of the major networks that say the Padres did a bad job. Everybody is saying the Padres didn't absolutely do a bad job. Kyle Glaser, who I, you know, have a lot of faith in. And I think it's very smart about this stuff and he was on the show with us as you know yesterday. Yeah. I mean, he was really the one that kind of got my antenna up by saying, man, the Dodgers didn't pay as much as the Padres paid in order to get flarity. And that was the one comment that he made that kind of concerned me. That's all I'm saying. I know I understand that. I understand. The Dodgers didn't want who the Padres were offering. Maybe the Padres didn't really want Jack Flaherty that big. You don't know. We don't really know behind the scenes everything that was going on. We have a big five question about why the Yankees went out on Jack Flaherty. So I might give a little insight as to why the Padres went out on Jack Flaherty. But okay, we'll get to that in time. Let's get to the first one and they were at the game last night. So here it is. I was at the game last night and I couldn't believe how electric the atmosphere was. It was a Tuesday night and everybody was locked in even after the tough start to the game. Maybe I'm just feeling really good after last night, but I think this Dodgers team is not as good as everyone thinks. I also think the division may be within reach if some things go our way. So Chris, do you think it's crazy for me to think the Padres have a chance to win the N.O. West? First things first. The Dodger team that you saw last night is not that great. They're not. Right? They don't have flarity yet. Nope. They don't have Yamamoto. They don't have a closer. They have Kershaw working his way back. It's only making his second start tonight. Tyler Glass now who, you know, pitched pretty well last night, but he's really the only sure thing they have in their rotation. The Dodger bullpen is a disaster. Not only did they blow the save last night, but they've been blowing saves left and right here, Dave Roberts doesn't know who to go to to close out a game. Phillips, the, the guy who's supposed to be the, yeah, Evan Phillips, supposed to be the closer. He's been just terrible. Daniel Hudson, the former pottery has been hit and miss. They went with trying in last night. He didn't get it done. Vessia didn't get it done last night. Dodger bullpen is in shambles and then their everyday lineup. Gavin Lux is batting third. That's because Freddie Freeman is off taking care of some personal issues and Mookie Betz is still not back. Yeah, Evan has been around with his son, right? Yeah, I think so. Edmund hasn't arrived yet. Maybe he's here for tonight, but I don't know if he's healthy yet. So Max Muncie still on the 60 day IL and the Dodgers are nowhere close to being what the Dodgers might be. So the team, the Padres are, you know, playing right now. I think the Padres are honestly better than this team. Now, can they catch him? Health is going to be the big thing if the Dodgers get everybody back. Five games is probably too much to make up, but if they don't get everybody back, I don't think it's ludicrous to think the Padres could, you know, close the gap in this division. I mean, you look at the wild card race. The Braves have been seven, eight, nine, ten games ahead of the Padres all year. Yeah. I mean, with so many injuries piling up, the Braves fell apart now. The Padres are right there with the Braves. So no, I don't think it's ludicrous right now, and I don't think that's a home or way of thinking. I don't think so either. You're right. It's the injuries and the, the, uh, I almost call them the Cowboys for some reason, but the Dodgers, uh, the America's team, yeah, I guess so, but the Dodgers, like, I had a friend text me who's a massive Dodgers fan. They text me last night saying, Padres won this trade deadline because they blocked us from getting any of the good relievers. And so now our relievers are just garbage and we all know pitching wins championships, right? Chris. So pitching also wins the visions and the Padres, if they keep playing the way they're playing, I think this could come down to the end. Well, we'll, we'll hope so. I mean, if clarity pitches like he can, Yamamoto comes back, Kershaw gets healthy. Then all of a sudden the Dodgers, you know, first four really formidable, but yeah, they need help. The Dodgers right now, they're, they're a shell of themselves. They are. All right. I, uh, this one is going to start like this. I appreciated the entire station's trade deadline coverage yesterday. It was pretty happy with everything that happened. I like the back end of the bullpen now. Uh, it's the bull dot, dot, dot, on paper. I do think Tanner Scott being a rental is concerning. Do you think the Padres went into this knowing he would be departing after the year or do you think they plan on bringing him back or is there no plan and they need things to play out? I'll go first. I have no idea, but I think that they have to have a plan that they know what they're doing when they're getting into this or not, for mortgaging a future to bring in a guy, they have no idea what they're going to do with them. We'll see how he does. He may be a guy who goes back to free agency, but if he helps them win in the playoffs, then who cares? So I think that they have a plan, but they need things to play out. Chris, he won't be the first rental in the history of baseball that goes back into free agency. Um, I think it's going to come down to this as long as Robert Suarez is the closer and indications from Mike Schiltar that he will continue to be the closer that I'm almost sure Tanner Scott won't want to come back here. If he's a gamer, he's going to want to go close somewhere. Uh, you know what? I missed the part on the audio, by the way. I should, we should bring this back, but Tanner Scott at the end says, I don't care about saves. Yeah. I want to hear about wins. He's got the right attitude. I love it. For this team right now. Yes. But if he's a gamer and a competitor, he's going to want to be a closer again. Of course. And he wants that money. For being a closer. That's right. So I think he will be a free agent. I think he is a rental. People are saying, uh, why didn't we trade Robert Suarez? I'm like, why? He's been outstanding. I don't want to trade away all the good players. I don't get that. I don't get that way. Thank you. All right. Donovan Solano is an absolute stud and I'm so happy he's on the team. I just am worried he's going to get down on not being a regular player anymore. How many times is he going to save the day? How do you reward a player, Chris, who has been good when you don't have room for him on a daily basis? Do what they're doing. Pick your spots, start them against left handed pitching. Give a rise a day off. If Cronan worth a day off, get Bogart's a day off. Maybe not against the left, but against a tough right hander. You can get Solano in there two or three times in a 10 game span. And if you're wondering just how down in the dump Solano is, what did you do last night when you called upon him? He walked it off. He seemed like he was in all right spirits. Yeah. His attitude is terrific. It is terrific. And the one thing you got to remind Solano is that the Padres gave him another lease on life. I mean, he was pretty much out of baseball. He was out of baseball. Right. The twins last year, you know, kind of cut him loose. He didn't have a place to go. Padres said, well, we'll bring you into a minor league contract early this season. Now they got him in the middle of a pennant race. Yeah. I think a guy like that's probably pretty excited to be where he's at. And he's a veteran, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Well, they're rewarding him today because he's in the lineup. So there you go. And then they should do that after a walk off hit. Give the guy a little bit of a reward. I do feel bad for him a little bit though, because he's playing so well and it's not going to go that way every single time. And he did a great. He did a great job last night. I think he'll continue doing a great job, but they need to make. Make Mr. Solano happy Chris. Not at the, not at the cost of there making anybody else on I know I know any guy that's not in the lineup tonight is Jake. And I don't mind Jake having a night where he's not in the lineup, but a breather. You know, it's like normally him to be in there. So all right. Last one. This has no real question, but this was the mean one that I got. AJ Prowler has ruined this team. And for some reason, people are going along with it. And I don't understand how this is not more alarming for the quote unquote Padres fans. I don't want to hear all the complaints when this team is struggling with death. You are doing a disservice to listeners posing as experts and really you have to be Padres positive and Scrabie. Stop acting like you're a victim. I don't even know what that means. Was there a question in the future there? No, no question. I didn't hear a few questions. You know, a lot of the people that were angry yesterday, somebody that's a hater is what that was. Yes. You know, a lot of people that were angry yesterday, some of them are coming around. Actually one person on their chat, Joe, he was angry yesterday, but now he's come around a little bit. All right. Well, just, you know, just to give that person just a little light here. If the Padres don't make the playoffs this year and find themselves with a pretty bare farm system, you're going to have every right as a fan to say AJ didn't get it done. You know, badly you can say he messed up. He's trying it. He's gambling. He's rolling the dice that comes up snake eyes. So be it. That's what happens when you gamble. But yeah, I'm sure there's others who think that the franchise is doomed forever more. But I will remind you this. Every time they purge the farm system to make a bunch of trades, a year or two later, the farm system is stacked again. Yep. He's done that. We're just coming up. All right. Welcome back into Gwen and Chris, our number two of a quick two and a half hour get together today. Is that right? Two and a half hours total. Oh, yes. Yeah. One hour down, 90 minutes to go. Then Sam Levitt's pregame show at four 40. Don't forget tonight's game starts an hour earlier than normal, a five 40 start out at Petco Park for game two of the Dodgers, Padre series, Dodgers final appearance in San Diego this season in the regular season wouldn't hurt my feelings if we don't see them again in the playoffs either. But we will see them tonight and they'll see Dylan Cease for the first time. Oh, is that right? Yeah. Dylan Cease. I don't believe it's pitched against the Dodgers yet this year. So either, yeah, so, you know, they're going to be getting a look at the guys pitching about as well as anybody ever has over a three game stretch and that's not stretching it. It's not stretching it. Clayton Kershaw, Hall of Famer will pitch for the Dodgers. So should be a lot of fun out at the ballpark, Dodger lineup, Botani, Will Smith again, Gavin Lux in the three spot. I'll tell you one thing about Gavin Lux. If he comes up in a key spot late in the game, just bring a lefty and he cannot hit a lefty. He was lost in two at bats last night against lefties. Te Oskar Hernandez, Jason Hayward, Andy Pahis, Cavin Bizio, oh, I don't even remember this guy. I know. Into the Dodgers and then he conks one off the foul. So annoying. I hate that. I hate that. Kiki Hernandez, Nick Ahmed, another recent acquisition by the Dodgers are like pieced together with tape and glue right now. They just have a band aid over the top of them right now. Louisa rise, Jerkson pro far, Bogart's Machado Solano is going to play first base tonight. Merrill Kim, Campusano gets a start and Bryce Johnson with the lefty on the mound. I mean, that's the other thing about the potters that we had didn't mention when you said, can they catch the Dodgers? We talked about the Dodgers getting healthy. How much better the potter is going to be of Bryce Johnson's not in right field and Fernando Tatte's junior is that going to make you a little better right there? Yes. Don't you think? Yes. Joe Musgrove could also make you a little bit better. So the Padres have some guys that they're trying to get healthy as well. Coming up on a daily gambit for you scoreboard update Arizona five Washington one. They're in the top of the eighth. Nobody else in the wild card picture has already played today. Well, no, the pirates haven't. They play later on at Houston, but the Cardinals and Braves won today. The Mets lost. So you can give a little ground, at least on the Mets tonight in the wild card race. All of a sudden, the Mets are playing incredible baseball. Yeah. And they've all been good. In fact, all six teams that are in the wild card, you know, mix all six of them one last night, every one of them. So you know, everybody's, everybody's trying to get to the same place. And you know, I understand that there's 50 somewhat games remaining, but you know, these games really kind of matter right now. They really do. I'll tell you, you know, we're looking at the Dodgers tonight's grade and then the Rockies come in on Friday. The interesting thing for Friday is going to be who's going to start at pitcher for the Padres. They don't have anybody scheduled. Will they throw Martine Perez out there? Will they go with an opener? I don't really know what other choices they have. Johnny burrito, they could call him up, I guess, but right now they're going to need a pitcher for Friday. That's the, that's the one question. And then when the Rockies are done, patterns go on the road next Tuesday, guess who's their first opponent next Tuesday, and guess who that means they're facing. Skiing your guy. If Paul takes both skis deep, the conversation is over, it's over. It's over. It's a man. The rear truss is a head to head match up. If he homeers off him, give him the trophy before he gets to home plate, please. And then have drunk Rob Bamford there does congratulate him. Congratulations Jackson Jackson. That would. Okay. That's must, that's must see TV night for sure. Padres will get skis. They'll go to Miami as well on that road trip. So, but that's still ahead. I have a request from Nick on the chat that you're not allowed to talk about the Rockies the rest of the week. Yeah, I'm not going to say anything bad about the Rockies. The only thing I, because I jinxed it last time, I will, I have to point this out though. They lost to the angels on the road last night. They are 14 and 41 on the road. You're doing it. You're doing it. I'm just pointing out their record on the road is worse than the overall record of the 62 Mets. Whoa. That's how bad they are on the road. I'm just saying you've got to punish them, but that's for the weekend. People are saying turn his mic off. I know. Don't let him say it. All right, let's get to some daily gambit stuff, some winners and losers around sports. Do you like money? I think about money. Do you like money without doing anything? Uh, duh, winning. Do you want to make money while watching sports? I think Washington is immortal luck. Washington, woo hoo. If you answer yes, this is your segment. Just don't blame us when you lose. Nothing is ever your fault. It's your game. Take it. Gwen and Chris go through the top bets of the day in the daily gambit on 97.3 The Fan. Daily gambit are daily sports betting segment here on Gwen and Chris. Please, everybody gamble responsibly. Uh, Chris, we have the Paris, uh, TV experience on here in studio. I got to say badminton is incredibly funny to watch because these two guys are giant. And the badminton core is very small. It looks like a couple of six 11 guys playing each other in badminton and isn't Snoop Dogg doing the commentary? I don't know if he's going to do every one of them, but I know he did the other day, for sure. I've watched very little of the Olympics this time around. Really? Um, it comes down to the same old thing. I'm in here every day and I know the results. And you know me, I don't like to watch events that I know the results of, like, like when you get home tonight, they're going to put the U S men's game on against South Sudan, the basketball game and what was the result prime time. If you don't want to know the score, cover your ears, but yeah, it's over us 103 South Sudan, 86 are closer than I wanted to be a little closer, but not as close as the last time they played. True. The U S players were in double figures led by Bam out of bio, there we go, 18.7 rebounds. But yeah, they put all these events on, but I already know like I knew the U S women won the gymnastics last night. So I watched a little Simone Biles just because she's Simone Biles, but it didn't have the same interest. I knew they were going to win. So that's my problem. It's very interesting. Our, our, um, our different opinions on this because I like to know who wins, but I want to see how you want to see how it happened. Yeah. Yeah. I don't. Anyway, I'm there for the results. Hey, I'm 2028. Chris, everything will be live because it's in LA. I'm looking forward to that and I will watch much more of that Olympic games. All right. Let's get to the gambit. I went foreign to the other night. You went two and four. I think you won the Paul Skeens bets too, which were Paul Skeens did not pitch more than six innings. And he did not have more than six and a half strikeouts. Yeah, that was the difference in our way during the other night. Let's get to what we've got coming up here on the ledger for tonight. And I've got four for the Dodger Padre game tonight. I mean, that's the focus. First Padres are favored by one and a half runs over the Dodgers really. That has everything to do with the fact of Dylan Sees is pitching for the Padres. Are you willing to bet on the Padres to sweep this two game series and do so by more than one run? I think the Padres are going to win, but I think it's by one run. So I have to go down. That's a crazy prediction. No, it's not. They're going to win by one run. They are. I mean, it's going to be too close of a game. It always is. It's not going to be close. Sees is not going to give up anything and all they're going to need to do is score two. I say the Padres here. These Dodgers over under seven runs, not expect a lot seven. That's hardly anything with like, yeah, okay. I'll still say under with these pitchers, it's going to be a four to one game. If that I think Kershaw gives up two bombs. Whoo. So I'm going to say over, all right, who's going to hit the bombs? Out of it, Solano, oh, all right, and man, he's on a heater. So there you go. And he's on a heater. Dylan sees tonight. This is an interesting wager over under. Does he allow three and a half hits? Now keep in mind in his last three games, he's allowed one, one and zero. So to bet over, he's got to give up four hits tonight. But then again, four hits isn't really that many, just is for him. So three and a half. What are you doing here? Well, he told us last week, yeah, you had him on Friday. Yes. And he told us that we didn't bring up like, are you going to do it two times in a row? But he did. He did seem like a guy who wants to continue the no hits. Sure. Because he said at the seventh inning is when I started trying not to give up a hit, right? I'm going to say he goes under going to say under it would be really, you know, something remarkable if he can take it into the sixth or seventh inning tonight. The smart wager here is to say over. Yeah. I mean, like four guys get jammed and bloop a hit into the outfield or somebody hits a ground ball over the mound that, you know, Hassan Kim can't quite field and that goes for an infield hit. It's only four hits. Yeah. But I'm going to go loops here and there. I'm going to go over. I'm going to go over Kershaw three and a half strikeouts. Oh, now what has happened here to Kershaw is the fact that he's coming off the injured list. How many innings did he go last time? He went four and struck out six in his first outing. You know, Padres don't strike out as much as we think. No, they don't. I'm going to go, I'm going to go, I'm going to actually going to go under for Kershaw here. I don't think he's going to pitch more than five innings. I think he'll strike out three, say under. I'm going to go over. He strikes out four strikes out four. Okay. Have we agreed on one yet? No, I agree on a single one yet on we go to the Olympic Games tomorrow. The US women's basketball team takes on Belgium. I know you've done a nice scouting report on the Belgians. I was going to say, what do they call with the Belgians? I think if anybody knows any different, let me know, but I think it's the Belgians. I'm not going to say anything about geography because I get crushed every day. You know, the country of Belgium is the part of one of my all time favorite movie titles. And I don't know what this movie was about. It came out. I believe in the seventies and it was called if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium. That was the name of the movie. That's crazy. I know. I don't know anything about it. I'll have to look it up. USA is favored by 23 over the Belgians on the women's side. Scrappy. Now, are Belgian waffles from Belgium because I think they're spelled differently, right? I got to believe Belgian waffles are from Belgium, but then I don't think French fries are from France. No, I don't think so. I think they're actually from Belgium. French fries? Hang on. I'm looking at a French fries history. I'm looking at a French fries history. Where were they invented? Mm-mm. I'm hungry again. Ah, I love French fries. Me too. I could eat them like three times a day. I'm trying to see. Yes, it was Brussels or Brussels for the for the waffle for the waffles. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know about the French fryer. Yeah. I'm not really coming up with it. So just move on. Okay. They are popular in Belgium. French fries with USA. I'm going to go with USA too. That was more conversation about Belgium than I've had in 35 years right there. Now, one of the things I love when I go to Europe mayonnaise on your French fries. You know what? It tastes good here too. I know. You just don't do it because everybody gives you a weird look. Yeah. Like, Hey, look at you. What are you doing? Eating mayonnaise by the handful. Going on calories and SD fat loss would not allow that no USA Belgium over under 165 points. I say over us starting to get into the groove Asia Wilson. Brittany Griner Brianna Stewart. Very good. Scrave. You're knowing your women's basketball about Sabrina. Is she on the team? I Nescu. Yeah. Yeah, she is. I'm gonna go over as well. And then one more women's basketball game couldn't tell you a thing about either of these two squads. But Germany, a one point favorite over Japan. Who do you like here? Interesting. Why? Did you see the picture yesterday of Wenby running by the Japanese player who was like five six? No. It's great. Wenby's like seven six. This dude's five six. It looks like an optical illusion because it's so insane. Maybe in Japan, Germany minus one, I kind of think Germany's pretty good at basketball. I'm gonna go Germany. Gonna go Germany here. All right, I'll take Japan. Land of the rising sun, baby. There you go. Land of the rising sun. Someone said that your movie is about a tour of us that has an adventure. Makes sense. What does it wake up? It's Belgium. No, if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium. It still doesn't make sense to me, but okay. I like the title. According to this on Wikipedia, and that always needs to be, says something about they were invented in Spain, French fries, origin, papas fritas, et cetera. They may have been invented in Spain, the first European country where the potato appeared. Also, there was anyway. I'm looking at the little Wikipedia, and it says that it came from France. French fries. Yeah. Well, that would make sense since they're called French fries. It says one enduring origin story holds that French fries were invented by street vendors on the point enough bridge in Perry in 1789. But here's one more thing on this, and then we're gonna definitely move on. The Belgians and the French have an ongoing dispute about where fries were invented. So yeah, Belgium is in on it. I understand it. That's a really good thing to say that you invented. I mean, it is called French fries. Do you think that's what they're angry about? The branding is off? Would you order Belgian fries? Would you order Belgian fries? Maybe you wouldn't. French fries has a better ring to it. I think I would. All right. The show is, you know, swirling out of control, which we're getting hungry, and we need to check some traffic. So stick around, Morgan and Chris, Tony's back with us at the bottom of the hour for a Big Five. From the 97.3, the Fennin' Traffic Center. Here's Kelly Dannock. A couple of bombs in the North County, North down side of the Fivert Ford Lucadia Stalkar in the center of Fide. And we're getting reports of a collision in North down side of the 15, just past El Norte Parkway. It's blocking the slow lane, and Kelly Dannock is going to Chris San Diego's number one support station. 97.3, the fat. After all this talk about Belgian fries, getting hungry, but you know what? SD fat loss. I know how to suppress that desire now thanks to SD fat loss, man. They've changed the whole way I go about thinking about eating. That's why I lost 37 pounds. That's why I've kept the weight off for over a year. You know, the diet works, you'll lose the weight, but you're also going to learn about why you're losing the weight and how to keep it off, but you got to call them. Tanner's an absolute dog. He is one of my all time favorite players. Once again, the work ethic is 10 out of 10. He's the first guy in the weight room. He's the guy that prepares the most in the bullpen. He wants the high leverage situation. He wants to save or he'll go in the seventh inning and get it out there and go back to the eighth and ninth. He does not want a day off. He pitches every single day. He gets pissed off when he has a day off. He is an incredible pick up and we got some good players to return obviously, but really happy for the Padres and what they're able to do if that's open. Tanner Scott, the words of his former manager, Skip Schumacher, who was on Ben and Woods this morning, so if that is something that interests you, you can always listen to it at your leisure. Don't listen to it now because that would hurt my feelings. Don't listen to it now. Don't listen to it now. That would hurt my feelings. Don't listen to it either. Listen to it later. Scrabion. I don't know why I just walked myself into that weird spot. I don't know what you're doing. Scrabion. I'm hanging out here. Tony is going to rejoin us for the big five in about five minutes, but yeah, Skip Schumacher with some high praise for Tanner Scott during that interview earlier today with, well, I'm going to start calling him Higgins and Woods since he called me L.O. and Gwen. That's really funny. Yeah. I forgive you. He's got a lot going on. He's a pissy guy. Yeah. You know that he's not only now the sports guy on Channel 10, is it? Yeah, ABC Channel 10, but every now and again, he is the news anchor. Really? Yeah. I did not know that. He's become a news anchor in a kind of a fill-in capacity. Wow. That you can see Ben, you know, giving, I don't know, tax loss stuff. Or whatever he's got to read. So, tax loss. Yeah. Ben is, he's multi-talented this guy. You know, I knew because I used to work for a news radio station and a lot of those people were in TV. So I know what kind of grind that is. I don't know how Ben does it, honestly. Doing night TV morning radio, it's incredible. I used to, I used to spend some time with Ben over Channel 10 and kind of watch and learn and see what he did and the man puts in an amazing amount of work all day and all night, you know, because he's doing the sports at what, 536, 37, then he has to wait till 1130 to do one more. Yeah. And then get in here at 4 in the morning. I mean, I would love to be considered for MVP of this radio station, but you know, it's tough to overcome the greatness. Well, we all know that goes to Mr. Higgins. We all know that goes to me. You're the MVP of the station. Maybe of the show. Of the show. I'm not going to say I'm the best Steve. We can collapse entirely then without your presence the next four days. The show will collapse. Yes. I hope not. We mentioned the United States with a win in the Olympics today in men's basketball. There's a guy in the Olympics and again, I'm sorry, but maybe, you know, ruin the results for a few people here. I think they know what they're getting into. Okay. Um, do you know who lay own? Yes. Marshawn is. Yes. He's the talk of the swimming towel. Wow. This guy is on fire in the pool. He's 22 years old. How could he be found fire in the pool? Because he's blazing up and down the, you know, the, he's, he's moving so fast. The water doesn't put the waters on fire. Wow. That is fast. 22 years old. He did something today that not even Michael Phelps ever did. He won the 200 meter butterfly, which is going like this. I'm kind of giving a little of that, you know, for the butterfly, the butterfly is my least favorite. Well, it's really hard to do. It is. It hurts the shoulders. Yes. Uh, he won that and then two hours later, he took down the 200 meter breaststroke. That's my favorite stroke. That's your favorite. I'm good. That's the easiest one to do. No, I'm good at holding my breath. So well, the thing about the breaststroke is it's, yeah, it's kind of a lazy man. You know what I learned back when I was learning how to swim. It was you push out the ice cream, you pull in the ice cream, you push out the ice cream, you pull in the ice cream. That's what you learned, huh? Yeah. I remember that to this day. I'm glad you do. Uh, Leon, Marshawn set world records in both of those events, uh, or two Olympic records. I, I beg your pardon, uh, he earlier won the four by 100 or 200 medley relay or individual medley. I mean, this guy. That's all four of the strokes. That's everything. So this guy is like the Michael Phelps of now. And it's funny to me that the Olympic record and swimming, I don't know if it's funny, but it gets lower every Olympics, right? Like Michael Phelps is the greatest athlete. He was voted the greatest athlete of the 21st century. Remember in the poll that we did, uh, that ESPN did just a couple of weeks ago. Yeah. That's the best athlete of the century. Well, already almost all of his records are gone, you know, cause he, he retired three years ago, four or five years ago, whatever. They just keep breaking the record at some point. They can't get any faster. Can you? Thank you. It's like TV. How can they get more high death? Yeah. They can't go much there at some point. The record is going to have to be unbreakable because, you know, this guy won his event today. The $200, $200, 200 meter breaststroke in two minutes, five point eight, five seconds. I mean, all right, but nobody can ever go one minute fight. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's got it somewhere's got to be the record that can't be taught. How do you shave off three seconds? I don't know, but just be a machine. I mean, as great as Michael Phelps is was, et cetera, 20 some odd medals. I don't know how many records he still holds. I'm not a swimming guy. So if if you're out there and you're a big swimming guy and you say, oh, Chris, you still got eight records, whatever good for you for knowing that. But my point is, is these records fall quickly, they do in the Olympics. Katie Ledecky's breaking record, Katie Ledecky won another one today. Oh, she won the 50. It was the 1500. Yeah. That is a long, long race. There's a lot of laps. That is so many laps. It's a lot of laps. Because what the pool is. It's almost a mile. It's almost a mile. 50 meters though. One way. Mm hmm. That's crazy. Yeah. Katie Ledecky won her eighth gold medal today. So that is the fifth gold medal of these games, by the way, for the United States of America. Love it. Break time. Yeah. And a big five with Tony Gwen Jr. in tow next. Welcome back to this fine program. Chris, Tony Gwen Jr, Matt Scrabie, Gwen and Chris, 97 three, the fan, Padres Dodgers, game two of the two game series, Padres win tonight. They win the clinch, the season series over the Dodgers for the first time since 2010. Dylan sees pictures of no hitter tonight. He becomes only the second pitcher in baseball history to throw back to back no hitters. We can dream, especially when a guy's only allowed two hits total in the last three games. The Dodgers may have their work cut out for them this evening, Mr. Scrabie. I think so. I do too. I think it could happen. I mean, that's kind of good. I think you could do it. Like weird year that the Padres have had. It's been that kind of craziness. Baseball coverage at 97 three, the fan brought to by T mobile switch to T mobile. If you don't like cell service, by the way, like you don't want to have be bothered, go to big sir. We had no cell phone service in big sir. That's surprising. Isn't that weird? That is very strange. Lori Yellow, lovely, uh, swore that when we got back to San Diego, she would call our cell provider and read them the riot act about the fact that we didn't have cell service. And did she? I don't know if she's done that yet, but far as I know, Verizon is still in business. So I don't think she's taken them down totally yet. She wasn't happy with this though, but you know what, and all the people were with nobody had cell service. Don't you have Wi-Fi? I, yes, there was Wi-Fi, but there was no cell phone service. It's a weird, it's kind of nice. I didn't mind it. When I go up to my sister's cabin and read, we have no cell service. It's amazing. Yeah. Didn't mind it too much. All right, let's check traffic and then big five time. I think I will. I think I will do that. Good, good, good. All right, we got no time to waste. So we need to get into this because of the trade deadline yesterday, number five. You know, we have the aftermath of the trade deadline and there's more insight coming out on what happened and Jack Flaherty, you know, was moved by the Tigers to the Dodgers. But there are reports the Yankees were scared off by some injury concerns for Flaherty. The hesitation on the part of the Yankees appeared to stem from a lower back issue that kept Flaherty from making a scheduled start in early July. It also led in receiving two injections over a three week span. So Chris, you're up first. Could this be the reason the Padres didn't push harder to acquire him? It certainly could be the reason. It makes sense if they had injury concerns, then, you know, AJ Preller said that the Padres really weren't close on Flaherty, but he didn't say why they weren't close, it's hard for me to believe that the Padres couldn't have put together a package similar to or better than what the Dodgers ended up putting together for Flaherty. So yeah, this actually maybe explains a lot. You know, I mean, we can only hope, right? I mean, nothing against Jack Flaherty personally, but, man, let's hope he misses three or four starts down the stretch and that trade doesn't work out as good as it looks like it's going to. What do you think, Tony? Could this be the reason Padres didn't push harder to acquire Jack Flaherty? Well, it's a maybe, you know, it's a possibility for sure. We don't know. I think, ultimately, the price tags are too high, regardless, and considering that Jack is a starting pitcher, that's a rental, you know, I think that was a little bit different story. So the Padres pivoted it and went the way they went. All right. Number four, Titans defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons addressed the media today to apologize for a verbal altercation with a local radio host a day before. He said, quote, that's not who I am or what I want to be seen as. At the end of the day, I take full accountability of my actions on the field and I promise that won't ever happen again, end quote. On Tuesday, Simmons approached Buck Reasing, the radio host, after practice while he was live on the air, about a post that he made on social media. Here is a little bit of that. Well, Jeff, you want to sit down? We can talk whenever you want to talk. Jeff, we'll deal with that later. Roger McCreary sitting down with us here on 104-5, Jeff, I mean, we're on the air right now. I'm right here, Jeff. We can talk anytime you want to. Unbelievable. We got to make that happen. Well, we'll deal with that later on. Well, there you go, testing, and, you know, I got to say this about the guy, 104-5. He has the radio voice going on here. Jeff, I'm right here, talking to you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, I don't even think Tony and I should be allowed to be on the airwaves after hearing that voice. What a-- My goodness. The Titans' public relations, too. Yes, we were other-- They knew where they were. They knew where they were. They knew where they were. He loved the Titans on 104-5. I got to say the guy looked a little scared. He was. He was. He was. Did he look a little scared? He was a little taken aback by-- He's some big guys. These are big guys coming at you. So Sid, the Titans'-- What did he say? He-- We know. What do we know? Do we know what it looks like? I do not know, but I have assumed it's just critical of how Jeffrey Simmons is playing. Probably, yeah. The Titans' public relations team made arrangements for Simmons to speak to the host before practice today. Quote, Simmons said, "He has an understanding of where I'm coming from, and I have an understanding where he comes from. He has a job, and I have a job." Yeah? Tony, did Jeffrey Simmons need to apologize? Yeah, yeah. I think not necessarily for having an issue with what was said, but his approach in how to do so, right? He dropped a cat on him on the way. I don't know if you guys caught that. No, I did. Yes. Yes. He dropped one of those on him as he was walking away. Probably not. Yeah, but that sounded like it was. Was it at camp? Yes. Yes. So that means there's probably kids and fans around there. Nah, that's a good point. You know, I think there's a better way to handle that. That's not all that unusual. You know, guys have issues with beat reporters, and you know, typically they're able to hash it out as long as both people, as long as the media members around. That is not how you want it to go. Sometimes it gets that way, but it's best to be doing that not when he's live on air or cameras around so that, you know, there's time to kind of come to some type of understanding as it sounds like they ended up getting there afterwards after all of the hubbub. So I would say, yes, he probably deserves it. He probably needed to apologize for his actions and how he handled it. Chris, I would say that he probably should have had to apologize, but I really wish that he didn't have to apologize. Like, and there's part of my world that says us radio guys, I'm lumping me in there now, should be accountable for what we say. And if we say or post something that is, you know, something ticks somebody off, they certainly had to have every right to come back at us and, and I don't know about threaten us, but certainly expected us. I don't think he's threatened. I don't think he's threatened. I don't think he's threatened. I don't think he's threatened either, but expect an explanation. You know, this guy's saying, I'm sitting right here. Well, you were sitting right there, but, you know, he wanted to, he wanted to find out, you know, where that post was coming from. And, you know, I wish we didn't have to apologize, but it's certainly the right thing to do. Yeah. You know, I, I had a quick run in with Vincent Jackson once of the chargers. I wrote something on a website that didn't, didn't, did not show him in a good light. He wondered why I even needed to do that in the first place, but he went about it a totally different way. He went to the public relations people with the chargers, asked to set up a meeting with me. And, you know, we were able to hash it out. And after that, you know, Vincent and I got along fine. So there is a better way to do it than what Jeffrey did, but I kind of like what he did given the, put a little scare into the guy. There's a piece of me that likes it too, but it's just, it's not the right thing. Exactly. Now the guy did say Buck is his name. He did say that Jeffrey should be able to say something to him, but obviously it wasn't the right time for it, but I will say this guy is a, I don't know about this dude, because then he posted the video afterwards. He's like, in the caption with something like, well, Jeffrey's not going to like that. I posted this video. Oh, so he's still poking a bear. So I think that was before they talked. Oh, okay. See, I just, I think for the most part, guys, as long as you show up there, they can, and they feel like they can approach you about it, it usually is handled in a professional way. Yeah. Yeah. What you do say on social media does count because it's online doesn't mean it doesn't count. That's the funny part about my man, but he's like, I'm sitting here like, well, I know you were sitting there when you fired off the post to me, like, I still feeling the same way I'm feeling after reading it and everybody else reads after quick Google, I guess Jeffrey Simmons has had problems with the media dating back to earlier this summer. So, well, all right. Here we go. Watch your step, Tennessee media. Well, well, CBS Sports RJ Anderson wrote about the trade deadline today and specifically wrote about the three reasons the trade deadline was a snoozer. Police said crochet tanked his value, Mason Miller was hurt, and too many teams are in the middle and couldn't acquire players to really put them over the top. Chris, do you think this trade deadline was a snooze fest? I disagree with RJ, who was a, uh, here's our show this week. He was a guest on our show last week. Oh, yes. Yes. He's a gatherer. Yeah. Tony's got it down. I can't even do it, but I look at, no, I disagree. I think this is exactly what baseball wants and baseball needs, which is to have. I believe I counted it 17 different teams made significant moves in the last two days, and that's great. That's a whole lot better than four teams making moves and 26 teams tanking the rest of the season the way it used to be. So maybe you didn't get the colossal names moved in this trade deadline, but there were extenuating circumstances, for instance, Miller's injury and crocheted stupidness. So, um, no, I thought it was a good trade deadline this year. I had no problem with it. I enjoyed it. Tony, was this trade deadline a snooze fest? I didn't think so. I thought this was a great trade deadline. Um, yes, it was, it was, it was absent of some big names being thrown around. A lot of them, a lot of big names are hurt. I don't know, remember there's a ton of pitchers that are just done, you know, that we lost early. Um, so I don't know that I, I would agree, I don't agree at all. I think it was a good, a good trade deadline. Um, the only thing that could have made it better with bigger names, but that's just, that's not, this wasn't that kind of year. You don't have a big name free agent class getting ready to roll through like we've had of seemed like over the past three or four years. All right, you guys are probably not going to like this question, but it, I really am interested in the psychology behind this Yankees third baseman jazz to some junior went from being a good player with the Marlins to an absolute superstar with the Yankees since joining the Yankees. He played three games. He's hit four home runs and he collected eight stakes. He said he loves the big stage and this is where he was meant to play, but I don't really understand the psychology of this. So Tony, bear with me on the question. Okay. Does this mean some grace? Does this mean the player doesn't give 100% in the smaller market? No, that's not what it means. Um, I like it. He didn't give me much grace. I, well, I, you asked me a question. Okay. All right. All right. Um, I, I liken it to the difference in playing in a big league stadium and then the difference in going down a triple A and playing in front of the same crowd. That's virtually, that's virtually what happens going from the Miami Marlins to going to the New York Yankees. And I can't, I can't speak to how and why it affects people, but the jazz is just the first person to mind you, it's only been two games. So let's, you know, he might, he still has to go through the rest of the season before we can officially say, yeah, well, he enjoyed being in the, in the bright lights, but I will say this in his one playoff appearance, he got off and like he was playing well. Um, he has shown up to New York and given them a boatload of energy all of a sudden. I've had, I've played with tea. I've had teammates that were like that when the lights were at their brightest, they played at their best. I don't know that I've had anybody ever played with somebody who came from and plays like the Miami Marlins where they're probably, I know it'll tell us they're averaging five digits, but I feel like they're probably in the four more likely and then going to New York. And not only that, he was in Philly. Like, you guys have seen what that place is like playing in that yard. It is, it is a lot of fun as a player playing in that environment and some guys really thrive in it. And at least through the first two games, that's been jazz three, three, is it three now? Today is three. Yeah. He hit his four home runs in the last two games. Two games. Yeah. Today is three. All right. Uh, Chris, do you, do you think that means the player gives less than a hundred percent in the smaller market? You know, I, in jazz chism's case, I want to jump in there and agree with you. But this is really not a well thought out question. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, no, it's okay with the question, but it's not. No, it's a no. It's a no. Uh, the thing is, I mean, we almost should have seen this coming. Yeah. He's going from playing in games in front of no people that mean nothing right into a situation where the game is the biggest deal in the, in, in, you know, going on in baseball. It's on MLB network, Yankees, Phillies, possible World Series preview. I mean, that's, that's going to juice anybody up, you know, it goes from a, it goes, this is no disrespect to the Miami Mariners, but he goes from being in that lineup to being in a lineup with Aaron judge, Juan Soto. I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a big deal. It's a big difference. Yeah. He's hitting, he's hitting fifth in that lineup, by the way. Yeah. He went from hitting, having to hit lead off for the Marlins to hitting fifth. I mean, if he has a home run for the Marlins, it's like a tree falling in the forest. I mean, nobody may even notice it. So it's like a tree falling in the forest. You know, this is really a big deal. And, but, but the other part of the question is that we probably need to pump the brakes on this. I mean, he's got four home runs and three games, two back to back games. He hit two home runs. But like Tony said, I mean, he could go, you know, 10 for 90 in his next 20 games. And then everybody's going to say, Oh, he couldn't handle the big lights in New York. So it's a little early to make a determination. Yes. I was going to say something derogatory about one statement, but I'm not going to. Yeah. I'm just saying the answer was poorly thought out. No. The flight attendant involved in an incident that led to Torel Davis's removal from a United Airlines plane in handcuffs is no longer employed in the NFL Hall of Famers. No fly band has been lifted. The airline told CNN on Tuesday he actually had a band that had to be lifted. Yes. United statement came after Davis took to social media yesterday to share an email that e-mailed a letter notifying him of his placement on the airlines. No fly list following the July 13th encounter. United said the letter was sent to Davis the day after the incident and that the action has been rescinded and the change was communicated to Davis's team the following day. My question is, it's an email. It wasn't actually mailed. So it didn't take a long time to get there. Chris, should the flight attendant have been fired in this case? Yeah. Well, I don't think this is an easy one. I think. Yeah. I mean, the flight. I mean, I was honestly on a flight over the weekend and I'm not Torel Davis, but I'll tell you one thing. I kept my hands in my lap. I was nervous. I was sitting on the aisle and I'm like, you know, I don't want to brush the arm of some flight attendant walking by. I mean, this is kind of an eye opening, you know, incident. I mean, because when you're on an airline flight nowadays, I really feel like a lot of us think this way already and now it's almost been proven to us. You don't really get a say, you know. They just make up their mind that you're a trouble person or you need to be arrested or you need to be grounded or you need to be kicked off that flight. You don't really get a, there's no court of opinion here. This is a, this is a, not a democracy on an airplane. So, you know, I think what happened to Torel Davis, you know, serves as kind of a warning to the rest of us. I saw another clip of some other lady getting thrown off a plane for yelling at a passenger. And again, you know, even if you had the right, it seems like that lady who yelled at the Trump supporter. Yeah. That lady was crazy. She was crazy. But at my point, you don't get a chance to explain yourself. They basically say you're getting off this flight, no questions asked. Torel Davis was getting arrested, no questions asked, even though he did absolutely nothing wrong. Tony. Yes. Anything to fire this guy? Absolutely. Absolutely. First of all, the fact, I mean, I can't imagine a guy who is put together as Torel Davis tapping somebody on the elbow or shoulder and her turning around and saying, "Don't hit me." Like that would, I'm sorry. And from my experience, that was scared of hell out of me. And so, you know, they was said that he kind of like walked off at a fast pace. Like, let me sit down, because I don't, and then to flight land and then the FBI is there to arrest you, like, in front of your wife and child? Like, yes. The plane. She should be fired, like, for sure, like, come on. Don't hit me. Yes. Christian. My skin crawl talking about it. Yeah, it scares. It honestly makes me a little nervous because I fly all the time and I bump into people. Unfortunately. I'm clumsy that way. All right. We're going to get you a straight jacket for flights so that you can't do anything. You can't do anything. Thank you. I appreciate that. All right. Up next, Chris, first of the fans. Give us a call 833-288-0973, your chance to take on Chris in trivia next on 973 The Fan. Hello. Hello. It's Jerry Seinfeld, news to say. Toodaloo. Toodaloo? All right, we're out of here. No, we're not. We have a lot to go. 40 minutes until Sam Levitt's pregame show, Padre Vaseball starting an hour earlier tonight, a 540 get together at Petco Park. It'll be the Padres against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Game two of a two game series, Padre's one last night, as you know, 6-5, 10 inning comeback victory from 5. Nothing down. 7th walk-off win of this season, seven of their 27 home wins have been in walk-off fashion. Tonight, hopefully it doesn't need to be that dramatic. Dylan Cease will look to continue one of the strongest pitching runs in modern baseball history. Man has allowed two hits in his last three starts, including a no-hitter the last two win has allowed two hits in his last three starts, including a no-hitter the last time out. Cease will face the Dodgers future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, which should be a very intriguing matchup tonight out at the ball yard for the ball team. Yes. Yes. As Tony Gwen Jr. called to Padres earlier today, Jesse and Tony will have the call of the game tonight, beginning at 540, Scrabie is on vacation in 40 minutes, 37 minutes. He's out of here. Let's do it. For about four days, we will have a full four hour show without him tomorrow. Tony will be in studio with me and you and everybody else tomorrow as the Padres enjoy a day off before the Colorado Rockies come calling over the weekend. Speaking of bad teams, Chicago White Sox fall again today. I mean, this really isn't surprising at this point. I mean, who's left on the roster? Gary Crochet. I can imagine Gary Crochet is really a very tone deaf, by the way, so tone deaf. I mean, he came out and said, Oh, I don't think my stance that I wouldn't pitch in the post season had anything to do with me not being traded for whatever makes you sleep at night. Yeah, whatever works for you. I mean, because it's it had everything to do with nobody trading for him. Yeah. Everybody was like, huh? Yeah. He stays with the White Sox. They lose their 17th straight game today, Drew Thorpe. Remember that name? I do. He was the losing pitcher today or yesterday, today. Yeah. Well, I mean, look, the White Sox don't have much left. They've we talked about the potters have 27 home wins this season. The White Sox have 27 wins period. That's crazy. And they've lost 17 in a row, which gets you to start shuffling through the record books. All time longest major league baseball losing streak in modern times the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, they got the record 23 in a row, Orioles lost 21 in a row in 1988. Oh, by the way, those were the first 21 games of the season. Imagine going through that. Wow. The Louisville Redbirds or something lost 26 in a row, but that was back in the 1800s. So White Sox have a shot at that, you know, keep it up. I say, if you're going to be bad, you might as well be historically bad. Yeah. Why not? Yeah, you could always say I played for the worst team in major league history. I did. Yeah. Why not? Something to hang your hat on. I don't believe I've done a good job answering questions lately who we didn't play in today. People have been winning on my mishaps lately. So okay. It's a good time to play. I seem to be in a slump. Let's find the next mishap for you. Let's go to one. Nothing makes you happier than for me to miss questions. I know. Hello, one. What's up, boys? Are you ready to play? Let's do it. All right. Thank you, one question, number one. By the way, the Angels once split a double header with the White Sox back in the day. The Los Angeles Herald examiners headline because an outfield in a one beneath as won the first game with a homer and lost the second game with an error. Oh, wow. Headline was Angels win one lose one. One reason I don't I just did that for one out there. Did you like that one? I love it. That's the second time I've done it to you. I don't remember that one. That's funny. That's funny. That's funny. All right. Here we go with our bad jokes. Yeah. Yeah. Question number one. I think I already played the book. Or question number one. Yeah. Never mind. What city is Blake Snell from? Oh, that's not a gimme. Yes, it is. You think? Yeah. See? Everybody knows that. We'll see. One. Oh, I know from Washington. Just name a big city in Washington. Oh, Seattle. You're going to go with Seattle. You are correct. You got it. There you go. It would have been kind of a shame if it was Walla Walla or something. I wouldn't. Yeah. Walla. Walla. Here we go. Question number two. All right, it's on May 8th, 2012. Josh Hamilton hit four home runs in a game for what team? Who? Boy, what a game. Say it again. Let's go up. Stay there one. Stay there. I've been in a slump. I think you know. I think I know this one. You know. Tejas Rangers. Sorry. Good talking to you, Juan. Thank you. I promise not to use the Juan Benica's joke on you next time. I guarantee you do. I might. I guarantee you. My mind works like that. Yes. It was the Rangers. Correct. I mean, I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. It's a fair question. I don't know. Big Poppy. Big Poppy. Big Poppy. Interesting guess. I don't know that I would have gone there. Straight there, Joseph. That's a really tough question. They've got some great players. The Boston Red Sox. I'm torn. Obviously Theodore Williams is in the running for this. Obviously. Theodore Williams. Obviously Manny Ramirez. Would be in the running for this. So tough. I think Jimmy Fox is in the running for this. The catcher? I think Carl Jostremsky is in the running for this. I think I'm going to go with Carl Jostremsky. I think he played more and longer than the rest of those guys. Oh, Joseph. I'm sorry, Joseph. I finagled it out. Thank you for playing, Joseph. Thank you for playing. That's a good question right there. Thank you. Red Sox have had some smashers over the years. By the way, the fantasy group is mad now that I said I'm going to win a second championship. They should be. They're texting that I'm not going to. Just, you know, even though I don't get in the text chat very often, please understand all you fantasy players in our league. I root for each of you each week that you play Scrabby. Just so you know. I'm always rooting for you. All right, here we go to our next contestant. Let's go to Ryan. Hello, Ryan. Hey, I know. Are you ready to play? Yes, sir. Okay, here we go. Question number one. Major League Baseball reporter Matt Snyder works for what company? Yes, man. He's on all the time. CBS Sports. Sorry, Ryan. Sorry about that, Ryan. Okay. Moving along. Moving along. Yeah. All right, let's go to Brad and Oceanside. Hello, Bradley. Hey, dope Padres, baby. You got it, Brad. Padres, baby. You got it. All right. Question number one. Let's see. What state is the field of dreams field in? Ohio. Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Cooperstown is in Ohio. No, it's not. According to me. Yeah, Youngstown. That would be Iowa. Would be your answer. That's where Scrabby's going tomorrow or Saturday. All right. In the interest of time, we have to go to tiebreaker. Wilbur Wood. Bless you. Wilbur Wood. Geez. Wilbur Wood. That was his name. Picture Chicago White Sox back in the 70s. Wilbur Wood led the league in victories twice. I thought he was a babe character. Back-to-back years. Wilbur Wood. You know what babe is? The movie babe? Yeah. I do. Yeah, about the pig. My goodness. I saw that, Bob. Good luck with your sneezing. I know. Wilbur Wood, three time All-Star. So he's our guy today. All right. So we're going to go with Wilbur Wood. Wilbur. And we are going to go with our next contestant for the tiebreaker. I wonder if Wilbur Wood's the only Wilbur ever to be in baseball. No, can't be. You don't think so? Can't be. Wilbur? Wilbur. I don't know what that's from. I don't know what stuck in my head. Let's go to another Brad. Brad and Santee. What's up, Brad? Okay, Brad. Hey, what's up, guys? How much buddy tiebreaker time? Hold on, Brad, one second. Emmicky has a very good point. Ello has seen Babe, but not the Sandlot. That's shameful. That's true. I have a wife. Tell whoever wrote that. I mean, Laurie with my wife. I love the Sandlot. She didn't drag me to the Sandlot. She dragged me to Babe. So there you go. Why were you? You guys shouldn't have been going to Babe anyway. That was like a five year old movie. It was up for Best Picture. Babe? Yes, it was. The Talking Pig? Nominated for Best Picture, I'm almost sure. All right. I didn't know that. All right, sorry about that, Brad. That's not the question. Tiebreaker is this. I'm going to ask Chris to give me or I'm going to ask Chris for a number. He's going to tell me whether I always messed this up. Yes, you do. I'm going to ask Chris to give me a number. You're going to guess whether or not the actual number is higher or lower than what Chris said, okay? Best Picture was Braveheart, Apollo 13, Sense and Sensibility. Oh, yes. Il Postino and Babe. How about that? Nominated for Best Picture. Apollo 13, what was the other one? Braveheart 1. My goodness. Babe made it in. That's pretty good. I got to say. All right, here we go, Brad. I'm going to ask Chris this question. Chris, how many innings did he pitch? Wilbur. 17 years. Yeah, he pitched a lot, man. Wilbur Wood once started, I believe. Figure this out for yourself now. 49 games in one season. That's almost one third of his team's games. He was the starting pitcher. Wilbur Wood was a knuckle baller. He could throw almost every day. Okay. So, to that end, I'm trying to figure out how many innings he pitched. Yeah, that's the goal. That's the deal here. All right, Wilbur, 17 years, he had to average 200 innings a year. Average. Let's say 3,000 innings. 3,000 innings. Brad, is the actual answer higher or lower than 3,000 innings? Let's go with lower. Lower. You were correct. Nice job. Brad, you looked out because Wilbur Wood was a reliever for a while. Yes. That took his innings down. His career high was 376 and two-thirds. 376. Can you imagine that? Nobody even gets within half of that in this day and age. No, he pitched 2,684 innings. 2,684. All right, very good. Nice job, Brad. Wilbur was Charlotte's Web. From Charlotte's Web. I don't know that Wilbur Wood was named after that, but that's neither here nor there. All right, we got to take some traffic here. One final segment of Gwen and Chris will update you on some Padre roster moves when we return. Hi, Chris, hello, Matt Scrabie in the Odyssey Palace Studios. Tony Gwen Jr., getting ready to call tonight's game at Petco Park with Jesse Agler and Sam Levitt with the Eco-Water SoCal pregame show. Jam-packed says Sammy. It's coming up in about 15 minutes. It gets ready for tonight's ball game between the San Diego Padres and the LA Cs. Your friend Ted Lightner used to say Cs, standing for crybabies. I love that. That is pretty funny. I got to say. A couple of moves made by the Padres today. Official moves. You're pretty aware of the fact that the Padres have traded for Tanner Scott, Brian Hoeing, and Martine Perez. All three now have actually joined the roster. And in order for that to happen, Padres had to make a couple of moves. Austin Davis was designated for assignment, left-handed reliever. Logan Gillespie, our guest a couple of weeks ago. Sorry about that, Logan. Sent back down to the minor leagues. Hey, he said the way he stays, you know, ready to go back to the major leagues. He doesn't unpack. So, that's right. He's already packed and ready to go. Stephen Colek goes to the injured list. Sounds fine these days. You think that's a fugazee? I don't know. He pitched last night. I didn't see him looking to hurt. I know. It does sound like a little bit of, hey, we need to rest you a little bit. We need a roster spot. Do you mind straining an elbow for the next 10 days? Yeah, it's not like, I mean, all teams do this. They all do that. All right. So those are the moves I made by the Padres. We got a few minutes left. I want to get into a couple of things. And I might want a little music for this, Scrabie. Because I'm talking about the National Football League. Oh my gosh. And I love talking about the National Football League, especially when we are on the eve of the season unofficially beginning. Can we really count that game tomorrow night? I can count it tomorrow night. It'll be the Hall of Fame game. And guess what? Everybody's going to watch for Caleb Williams and he's not going to play. Oh, nobody's going to play. But you know what? They're going to put the uniforms on. They're going to run out there. They're going to knock into each other for 10 minutes. And then I'll turn it off. Remember when Josh Jacobs played the entire game last year? And Josh McDaniel tried to explain it to people. Everybody's like, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Hey, it was the dumbest thing ever. Tomorrow, yeah. Texans and Bears play the Hall of Fame game. So it's the unofficial beginning of the NFL season. And we have some fun controversies going on that I want to get into with you for a minute here, Scrabie. All right. First up, we take you to the training camp of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ooh. You can watch this. Melee. I need to see this. On Twitter, online, wherever you go for your videos, I need to see this. Here's what apparently happened in Pittsburgh today. According to reports, I don't know that either player has explained themselves yet. Oh, wow. This is a pretty good one. Oh, yeah. It's a good one. Oh, wow. Yeah. According to reports, quarterback Justin Fields battling for a spot with Russell Wilson. Well, actually Wilson's kind of the starter or been named the starter. Evidently, Justin Fields completed a touchdown pass in practice and turned to Russell Wilson and quipped. Yeah. I'm the most expensive backup in the league. I should be making subs at Subway. For whatever reason, according to the reports, Russell Wilson didn't like that. Now, I don't know. You know, we might be overblowing this because it's just a report and I want to, you know, so we're being a little jumping ahead of the gun here, but you know, it's fun to do. I'm looking at. There's a couple of players that just said like that they were defending their quarterback basically. He's like, nobody's going to hit our quarterback cheap shot and get away with it. So they're talking about Russell Wilson, right? Well, Russell Wilson, according to the report, slapped with an open hand. Justin Fields. And that's set off this melee. And I mean, it's a melee. It is. And I don't care how old you are or what part of life you're in. You should never slap anyone across the face. Well, I guess, I don't know how hard it was. Again, we don't know that he did it for sure. He may deny it. Maybe they'll be the other video that comes out. But according to the reports, Justin Fields, maybe he was being kind of a jerk about the whole thing saying, yeah, I'm the most expensive backup in the league. Russell Wilson didn't like it. Slapped him. The, I will say that. Things are off and rolling in Pittsburgh. I'm going to tell you something. Mike Tomlin is going to have to do again one of his greatest coaching jobs with this team. Somehow he got them into the playoffs last year without even having a quarterback. Now he's got two guys that are already to each other's throats. I think Russell Wilson is probably like, how did I find myself here? I was just on top of the world two years ago. Now I'm competing for a spot. Wow, as he fallen, he really has. And you know what the Steelers did for Justin Fields that the Bears never did? Cared. They cared about their quarterback. They backed him up in this nailing. They did. That's, I mean, that's how the whole thing started. So, keep an eye out for that story. Here's the other one. Apparently, the last two days at Florham Park, New Jersey, where the New York jet tropolitans practice quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson have engaged in two, not one, but two animated discussions on the sideline. Both of those have blown up on social media. Of course, Aaron Rodgers insisted today that his relationship with Wilson is fine. And the heated moments between them aren't what they seem. I would expect Aaron Rodgers to say this. However, Aaron Rodgers downplays everything. And you know what? Not everything is really capable of being downplayed like the fact that he didn't show up for mandatory camp. He downplayed that too. Yeah. Didn't make it all right. He was like, "Oh, everything was fine." Sure. No big deal. I had a trip planned. I couldn't change the dates. What's the big deal? Well, it was a big deal to a lot of people, maybe even to Garrett Wilson, who wouldn't have minded without working out with his new quarterback. The one thing I don't get about the Egypt trip, you had literally so much time to go to Egypt, but you chose when the practices were probably going to be around. We're good. All right. Aaron Rodgers also has been ripping on his teammates during these practices for their poor play. I would be angry. I don't blame the Jets players for being angry at a guy who didn't even come to training camp. Like, we're here to start ripping everybody. We're here working and you're in Egypt. I don't think it's going to work out for Rodgers. Maybe I just kind of hope it doesn't, but we'll have to see. All right. Thank you, Scrappy. Very good. Enjoy your little mini vacation, which starts tomorrow. Thank you. Adam Clue will sit in for you. Tony Gwen Jr. will be with me for four full hours on a Padre day off tomorrow. Stay tuned. Sam Levitt's Padre pregame show. Ecowater. SoCal pregame show coming up next. Champak. Champak show. Then another jam-packed game between the Dodgers and the Padres. Enjoy that. And we'll see everybody tomorrow on 97.3, The Fan. Now we had to speak and understand a new language can be an invaluable tool when traveling, meeting new friends, or just even a master new skill.
