Hey, what's happenin' to San Diego? Welcome in a very happy Monday to Gwen and Chris kicking off another week here. On San Diego's number one sports talk station, this is 97.3 The Fan. Chrisello, Tony Gwen Jr. and Matt Scravey, all three of us together in the Odyssey Palace studios right here in San Diego, California, where the Padres have returned home after maybe the greatest road trip in franchise history. I don't know statistically if it was the greatest road trip in franchise history. They probably gone 7 and 2 before Tony, 8 and 1 maybe but considering the teams they beat and getting off to the start, they did the second half of the season. It is a wonderful time to be a Padre and a Padre fan. They have the day off today. They will take on the Dodgers starting a two-game series against the Blue Crew tomorrow at Petco Park. I'm not sure where it was at statistically, but it felt like the longest road trip. The longest. Yeah, but I was saying one of the greatest. I mean, to win seven in a row beat the best team in the American League two out of three twice because Cleveland was the best team in the American League and Baltimore was the best team in the American League to be both of them. And the only thing yesterday's loss was keep it from being really off the charts. I thought that yeah, it was off the charts. I thought Jerkson Pro far there in the ninth inning, Tony. He doubles up against the fence, drives in all three runs and Rod Manford just comes out and hands him the MVP trophy right there. You know, he didn't do it. He says, hey, Jerkson, congratulations, Jerkson. Your season has been magical. It's been magical anyway, even without him doubling off the fence. I mean, he won the game for us on Friday night. This guy just, I don't know what more he can do. But this a road trip. It's got to be the greatest of all time. Tony, you go seven and two, but it also included a no hitter on the trip. It included, you know, exciting comeback win after exciting comeback win and considering the teams they did it against just fantastic. I don't know if anybody expected, you know, quite this to kick off the second half of the season. Zander Bogart's has hardly made it out since he's come back and yesterday did make three outs, but he also hit one out and they almost came back from six nothing down and Jake Rundewar said after the game. I mean, this is, he was like down in the dumps after the game, like really disappointed, but not for long, but just long enough to realize they're playing so well right now that a six nothing deficit in Baltimore was something they almost feel like they should have, you know, overcome. And that gives you an idea right now where they're at confidence is high. For sure. I think we got to go back to see, you know, when Joe threw his no, no, I believe, I know the Padres swept the Rangers in a series have to see what they did on the rest of that road trip, but I'm on it. Yeah, the confidence is high right now. I don't think there's really any other way to look at it. This team had unbelievable starting pitching. Unbelievable. They're in the course of this road trip. There are only two games in which they didn't have a starter go five or more. And, and, you know, I just think this team is coming together and they're not even they're not even healthy yet. Still not. They are largely doing this. Obviously pro far is having that type of year. The addition of a rise, which Manny starting to swing the bat, but outside of that, it's largely been guys that have had to fill in and in some, some way, shape or form, right? Kyle guys, Yoka initially got to, you know, play more because, uh, Capissano's thumb, right? And then he just hasn't relinquished it since, uh, Donovan Solano, I mean, doesn't play for three games. And then they put him in the lineup. And it's like, doesn't miss a beat. You know, David, David Peralta, another one. He's contributed on, uh, on a number of occasions and on this road trip. And that is the type of, you know, play that you've gotten from, um, from everybody, from literally everybody, literally everybody. I mean, you know, the pitching staff, are you kidding me? You talked about the starting pitching ERA on this road trip was 1.44 going into that game yesterday. Now finally, Vasquez gave a little ground in that third inning and six runs were charged to him. So that skewed the ERA quite a bit, but you get a one four four ERA over eight games on the road against elite teams. I mean, the nationals aren't elite, but the other two were, the other two were certainly elite teams. You get a one four four and you do it while your number one and number two pictures on paper are both on the disabled list or on the inactive list. Yeah. So how deep is this staff? I mean, you've got, you've got three guys right now that are pitching as well as anybody in baseball in seas, king and Waldron. And that on paper is your three, four, five guys. It's amazing. And I think you brought this up earlier at one point. Um, it's amazing that the, and this is, this is why I personally think it's pointless to try to predict how things are going to happen. Just when you think you know, you're wrong, you're dead wrong. I mean, we came into the season, worried about left field, worried about the starting rotation as a whole, right? Um, then did we have a closure at the beginning of the season? We weren't sure. We weren't sure. We weren't sure. You're right. You're right. We weren't sure. We weren't sure about it at all. And now, you know, I would say the two three strongest places on the team have been in left field and have been in that starting rotation minus the two guys that you just finished saying. Yeah. Um, just finished talking about in Joe and you and then, you know, this team is just, I don't know that they, I said going into the break that I thought they had borderline overachieved given the circumstances of who's been out and where they were, wins loss wise. And now, you know, they come out to start the second half and they hit the ground running. And that was the thing I think we were, we were hoping for. It was all right. They came, it kind of went into the break on fumes there. They looked like they were running out of gas there. They get the break. And I mean, I mean, the first day wasn't great. Obviously, that one and that final score ended up looking a lot crazier than whoever remember, it was a one nothing game going into the eighth. Uh, but to go seven and two against the quality of teams, you know, that's, that's a good road trip. And now much like it was the time the Padres had the, the previous time where they had the good road trip, they came home and they added to it. They got to do the same thing here. I mean, obviously you got the Dodgers rolling in the town for two games. You're going to have, you know, tough match up there. And then you got the Rockies who last time they came to town. Oh, really? Last time. Matter of fact, I think last time I started came to town. We were feeling pretty good about, uh, the Padres and what they had done. I believe one of the hosts on this, uh, on this radio station, I can't, I don't want to name his name. Chris, I believe he said that the Rockies wouldn't score a run in that series. I believe that same host had the open made out of that. I have a short memory. So I don't remember. You don't remember who that was? Yeah, I think it was Elston or something like that. Can't quite remember. I have a short memory, but again, you got to come home now and keep to it. Yeah, you do. You do. And it's the first two games against the Dodgers are going to be. You know, I don't want to say playoff feel because it's not. It's still, you know, July. But the pitching matchups are really good. I mean, you've got glass now and Waldron tomorrow night. And then you've got cease, you know, going up against Kershaw on Wednesday. Those are two really marquee matchups and you don't even need marquee matchups to make the Dodgers series extra special. You don't. But you've got them anyway. You got the Dodgers, you know, at the edge of your sites now, they're six and a half behind. I don't really think you need to worry about that. Just keep on doing what you're doing. When your games, you're going to be in the postseason if you do. And you know, but the on the other side of all of that, still six teams in the wildcard within two games of each other. I was going to say the only bad part of the only thing they haven't really separated to a point where they can just relax. The only bad part about this road trip was that everybody else kept winning to the Diamondbacks kept winning. Giants found a way to win some games in there. The card. I mean, there's a bunch of teams that are, as you said, they're not going away. And I think that is the evidence behind that is the temperature of this trade deadline. And we're going to get into that a little bit. Yes, we will. I don't know how much you guys have talked about it. But you know, the Padres went out and they make an acquisition. Jason Adams come, Adams come to the Padres and the price tag is what I think everybody caught everybody's eye. And it's not a surprise to me going back to what we just finished. Giving that so many teams are in it. That was the live reaction for me when I saw that happened. The peanut gallery is really shocked by this. It was shocking. I mean, the reality is because all these teams are in it. Yes. They're all making the same phone call. Right. Padres weren't the only ones that wanted Jason Adam. No, clearly. No. So in order to get them, they had to give up a little bit more. Yeah, we'll get into the trade deadline for sure, Tony, because a lot of moves are being made today. Justin Turner is just gone and the Dodgers have made their first splash into the trade. I'll leave you with this and we'll save the rest of the topic for a different segment. If the price tag was that for Jason Adam, and notice there hasn't been a starting pitcher traded to this point. Right. Just one. Eric Fettie went in a seven player deal. Three teams up on the Cardinals. So we'll tell you about that in a little bit. I'm saying if we're talking about a tier above Fettie. Yeah, I know. The price tag is too high. Probably astronomical right now. Astronomical, because there's everybody's in on it and you're right. The trade deadline, I think, has been largely quiet. You know, we've had a few big names moved. We'll discuss that for sure. And we're going to be all over the trade deadline anyway. If anything happens today, first of all, you'll get it here. We'll let you know. I mean, if anything comes down between now and six o'clock, Matt Snyder, CBS Sports is going to be on the show today. We know how well connected he is. So if he's hearing anything, he'll pass along to us in about a half an hour, but just a little programming note tomorrow on the actual trade deadline day, Tony will be down at the ballpark, but he'll be on the show. Myself and Scrabie will be here, but also Kyle Glaser, the former insider for baseball America who's still very well connected, obviously. He's going to be in studio with us tomorrow and anything he's hearing and anything that happens, he'll be here to help us break that down tomorrow. So you're not going to miss anything on the trade deadline, but back to the Padres for a second. Talked about this log jam. Braves right now are the wild card leader. Padres are only one game behind them. The Mets are one and a half. The Diamondbacks are two. The Cardinals are two and a half and the Pirates are three and a half. That is six teams where the whole order can change and one series. So you've got six teams, the Giants after winning four in a row over the Rockies doing what you're supposed to do to the Rockies when they come to your park are on the just the outside of that three and a half back of a wild card spot. So it's it's yeah, you've got to keep winning, but at the same time, I don't think you can put any extra pressure on yourself. Go out, do what you do, you know, and keep getting this kind of pitching, this kind of hitting. Those are the two things that seem to go together when you're winning ballgames like this. I mean, I mean, for now, the Padres should only worry about what they get worried about because they're they've played really well that when you watch the team, like they have an identity. I mean, when you watch this team, you know, when they're at their best, we're going to talk about five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 pitch at bats up and down the line up, your starter is going to be taxed. And they're going to stay up the middle of the field and that's served them best. They haven't worried about standings. And in some ways, you know, being so far out early kind of forces you kind of just to focus on what you have in front of you when you're, you know, eight, nine, 10 games out early. And they should just stay the course. They're playing a good baseball right now. Now, you know, can they continue to get one four four starting pitching ERA style? I mean, can, can they continue that base? I don't think anybody can continue that. But it really is something outstanding to see. And you talk about the position they're in is this, they have now won road series this year in Cleveland, Baltimore, Dodgers, Arizona, Atlanta, Kansas City. Those are all playoff type teams. And the potters have gone into each of those places and won a series. That has got to, you know, at some point show up in the standings as you move forward. But in order to make it all work, as you said, you've got to come home and take care of business. And to that end, the Dodgers and Rockies. And we'll talk about those two series, but probably not until tomorrow. I, I'm just, you know, I got one really good. I had a little trip this weekend up to Northern California. I got one really funny quip on Facebook from somebody. I put some pictures of Lori and I up at, it was in Carmel, California, at Pebble Beach, at a picture of Pebble Beach in the background. The guy wrote, Padres have won seven in a row, Chris, stay there. I agree. You were on your way home yesterday. And guess what happened? They lost. I know I came home yesterday and they lost. So it is incredible. The power you all think that we have. And I appreciate that you think we have that kind of power. If you don't, if you, if it really worries you, everybody can pull some money together, ship me back out for another week somewhere. I'll be more than happy to go there. But anyway, in the meantime, we're looking forward to hanging out with you for the next four hours. We will talk about this Jason Adam deal. When we come back, we'll give you the latest on the baseball trades that have been made today. Like I said, the Dodgers have finally done something. Our old friend Tommy Fam is on the move. Not here. We'll talk about where he's going, some other late-breaking trade developments coming up when we return. Gwen and Chris, happy to be with you, happy to be back in town on a Monday 97-3, the fan. Sometimes I really do understand where the Chris is coming from in terms of the technology and iPads. Currently, you know, I'm trying to get to my Google Doc. Not happening. Yeah, it's not happening. I can't remember a password for an account that I don't even use anymore. That's how long I got. So now I'm like stuck not knowing what's actually on the rundown, but I'm gonna figure it out at some point. My least favorite thing is the fact that the Odyssey Palace makes me change my password every 90 days. It takes me 89 days to learn it. So and then on the 90th, I have to change this is how stubborn I am. I, you know, all of our computers and devices now, whenever that happens, yeah, we'll give you a randomized password that your computer. I have resisted for it's been probably going on. Apple's been doing this probably for about three, four years, at least I can. I've been resisting doing the computer password until now. Like I, and it was, you know, you have one too many change your passwords, like in a matter of a week's time. You're like, you know what, I can't keep, and you can't use the password that you were using the time before. That's right. That's another issue. You know, I started running out an idea. So, you know, now I'm at the point where I let the computer come up with the crazy password. Really? Yeah. And then you type in X? No, no, no, no, no, no, number five, the asterisk for underscore, yeah, something that is completely impossible to decipher. The beauty behind the ideas, I don't have to remember the computer already has it. Oh, I see. And it just, you know, okay, you know, a trick to remember a password, if you ever want to create a random one is you use letters and you basically write a sentence and then use the first letter from each word in the sentence to do your little thing. So, for example, I love you would be one L Y, you know, it's not enough. It's got to be eight characters. Well, I know that a symbol in a number needs to be involved in there too, buddy. So lie. So lie. I was just trying to help. All right. Just getting to some deadline talking already movement happening. We were talking about the price tags that seem like they're pretty high. I mean, I'm, I haven't talked to anybody, but just like at a glance. Jason Adam for the three that were given up and I, you know, I've, I've learned that last go hadn't been throwing a ball. Well, his command is kind of read that too. But it just, I just know my initial reaction was, yeah, that seems like a lot. Yeah. Homer Bush's name was a guy that, you know, we were thinking about for the future. Let's go also the catcher. Not so much. But, you know, it's three guys. Look, the thing is, is will any of those three make the major leagues and ever contribute to the Tampa Bay Rays? Who knows? One thing I do know is that Jason Adam will be contributing to this now. I was about to say we, we do know the percentages of these trades say a high percentage of these trades say that the Padres will get the best of this because they got the guy. They got a guy. That's ready now. And he's been, he's a, he's a lights out type reliever too. I, you know, you can't have too many guys. I mean, Suarez has got the ninth inning. Estrad has been locking down the eighth, but give me Jason Adam to lock down the eighth also. And then give me somebody else for the seventh who I don't use in the eighth. I think what you learned. You've got to have a great bullpen. I mean, you're looking at the Phillies. I know we're, I know we're just trying to get into the playoffs right now, but eventually you're going to have to run up against the Phillies probably. They just added Estebes to a bullpen that already has a couple of all stars and Matt Strom and Jeff Hoffman. Oh, and by the way, Jose Alvarado. Well, they, and now Estebes, that's four relievers that are all ninth inning guys. They, they went laterally, right? They moved Sir Anthony Dominguez to, to where we were in Baltimore, probably knowing that they had this step is yeah, he's better on deck. And so they teams are loading up their bullpen. And I, I get it because baseball and the playoffs, starting pitchers again, unless you're, you know, really on a Dylan C's type of a heater, they're not going to let you go more than five or six innings in postseason. Not only are you facing the batting order once, twice, three times, but you're then spacing that same team two or three days later. And the analytics say, the pitchers aren't as effective. So get to the bullpen. You've got to have more than two. You've got to have more than three. You might even need to have more than four coming out of that pen. It's, it's, it's a, it's a risky. The teams that have won the last two, three titles have all had good starters though. You're going to need, you're going to need some starters to get you the distance. Because if you go into the, the postseason on the bullpen, you know, tip, right, you're not going to last. That might wear out. You, you, you're going to need some starters to get you some of the way or split up the time, however it may be, but they have starters. So in Philly's case, it makes perfect sense, right? They got Wheeler, they got Nola, they got Suarez, they got, they got dudes, right? So, you know, it's going to be very interesting to see how it goes. Obviously the Padres would seem to need some starting pitching. They got a, they got a trade for somebody. Look, we heard some good news about Musgrove. He's apparently going to throw a couple of innings in, in Phoenix tomorrow, Peoria, tomorrow, in kind of a, you know, inter squad type of situation. And then hopefully he can make a couple of rehab things and be ready, you know, a little earlier in August than originally thought. But I don't know that you can, even if you were assured that Musgrove was coming back in 10 more days, you still need one. That's only five. You're going to need a sixth. You're just going to need it. And we don't know about Darvish. Some reports, John Haman said that the Padres might get him back. So we'll, you know, hopefully that, you know, turns out to be the case, but I'm almost sure age is going to have to trade for somebody. But the price tag is ridiculous. I mean, you look at the Cardinals, they got Eric Fettie today. Now this is Eric Fettie. He's seven, former, former national, former number five guy for the nationals. He's seven and four and has a three point one ERA with the white Sox. This is his best year by far. He's ever had. He was in South Korea the year before this. And he draws a deal. The Cardinals have to make an eight player three team trade with the Dodgers. I haven't seen this yet. And with the white Sox. I know Edmonds to bring Fettie in there. Edmonds going to the Dodgers. I got it. Dodgers get Tommy Edmond, Michael Copic. Michael Copic. Reliever. Yeah. Cardinals get Eric Fettie Tommy fam. White Sox. Tommy goes back to Saint Louis. White Sox get three infield prospects from the Dodgers. Miguel Vargas, Alexander Albertus and Haral Perez. They gave up. Miguel Vargas. Who else they give up? Alexander Albert. Two guys I haven't heard of and Haral Perez. Yeah. And the Cardinals end up giving up a 17 year old, the right-hander Oliver Gonzalez. Bunch of cash, etc. How does this come about? How do you think a three team trade comes about? How I think we're not coming to an agreement. So I can't even figure out my computer website password. I don't know. You're going to and likely going to need a team like the white Sox would be involved. Yes, because they're willing to just because they're the ones that have the pieces that multiple teams want. So now they get to pick, okay, we'll take these guys from you, we'll take these guys from you, take this cash from you, and they can kind of, you know, because they're not in the business of winning ballgames right now. They're in the business of winning or excuse me, of acquiring talent at this point. Yes, that's what they're doing. And so, you know, that's what it takes to get a deal like that done. Chances are both Cardinals, Dodgers were probably, my guess is probably individually talking to the white Sox. Yeah, about clearly different guys that they were targeting. And they just couldn't come to it. So then they had to add. So now you bring in a third team in and, you know, it works out. Three team trades don't happen as much than Major League Baseball, right? I would say NBA happens far more often. But it does happen as we can see there. I don't think that the acquisition of Tommy Edmond, who, by the way, has been injured all year and has just had a rehab assignment right now. And Michael Copec, who did throw an immaculate inning about a month ago for the white Sox, but hasn't really gotten anybody else out. I don't think these are the two guys that the Dodgers were planning on turning around whatever fortunes they feel need to be turned around. So it'll be interesting to see, you know, 24 more hours. What happens here? What do you, what do you say? I'm sorry. Why I thought the Dodgers would be looking for something bigger is what I mean. I don't think they're done. Or I don't think they want to be done. I think the Dodgers want something a lot bigger than Tommy Edmond and Michael Copec. I think they're in on what I've read. They're in on Kikuchi, who the Padres are reportedly in on as well. Yeah. You know, I think is crochet. Is he just here? Did he talk himself out of being traded? He very, first of all, you're not going to just be not going bully a team like the Dodgers and say, Hey, we want an extension. I'm not going to pitch in the postseason. Like what? Who says this? That was an interesting play. And I think there are other things that it seemed like the Dodgers typically stay away from. They don't like to have bring on guys who've had like injuries that they're concerned about. And so crochet kind of fits into that checks that box too. So he may have talked himself out of being traded out of the worst team in baseball. Yeah, we'll see. There's we got time. Somebody usually is willing to meet the price. Uh, we do know based on what's moved so far that the price seems to be pretty, it's pretty steep right now. So fantasy owners everywhere ready for Garrett crochet to do something. Matt Scneider, set to join us from CBS Sports in the wake of a couple of other moves that were made today. Let me run them by you real quick. Justin Turner went from Toronto to the Mariners. Pirates sent young pitcher Quinn Preister to the Boston Red Sox. Since Andy Red's got her old guy, Ty France, after the Mariners designated him for assignment, and the Kansas City Royals have acquired starter Michael O'Renson from Texas. We have acquired a visit with Matt Scneider from CBS Sports. How are you today, Matt? What's going on? Anything? I'm very good. I mean, a lot of talk. The three-way trade that sent Fettie to the Cardinals was something, but it seems like everybody's waiting to see if the White Sox are going to deal crochet, if they're going to deal with Luis Robert, if the Tigers are going to deal to reach Google, we know that the Tigers scratched Jack Flaherty from his start tonight, but that could just be hey, in case he's traded, you know, you don't want to risk an injury right when you're about to trade someone. So it doesn't necessarily mean that he's gone, but it's a signal that they're trying to deal him. You know, other than the Rays, we haven't really started to move the big names yet. It seems like the Rays are still going to trade Yondi Diaz as well. A lot to be sorted out here, Matt, because there are so many teams still smack dab in the thick of it. And what's your read? The Padres end up moving three of their top 12 prospects. They get Jason Adam. And it seemed by just at first glance, Chris and I were talking about this, it seemed like a steep price tag. What was your read on it? It might be. Yeah, but you know, it's I think we can all see it's pretty evident. This is a win now team and we're not as worried about the future here. And, you know, the miners right now are not in that good shape. If you talk to any level of evaluators and they would say like a top 50 prospect right now is about as good as the top 200 prospect 10, 15 years ago. Like the miners, it's just not as good. So it might sound a little steeper than it actually is. And we know from years and years and years of doing this, sometimes one of the guys you trade away becomes a stud. I mean, I think San Diego would be familiar with the James Shields trade that brought for me who taught to junior, but a lot of other times, none of these players paying out. So it's a it's hit or miss here. And I think as long as you're close, you should go for it. And the examples would be like, it's not just the Diamondbacks last year with 84 wins. It's the 2022 Phillies, the 2021 Braves, the 2014 Royals. There were so many teams that looked like they were just mediocre at this point in the season and ended up either making the World Series or winning the World Series. So I think when you're close enough, you've got to go for it. First, more often than not, you're right. The team that gets the already, the big leaguer usually wins out in these deals. But I asked that question, not necessarily about the Padres and whether they there was a good deal for them. I was really asking in the context of, man, if if that's what it costs for a high and reliever, what is the price tag going to be for some of these starters that it seems like all the teams are coveting at this point? Yeah, sorry, I didn't get your question correct, man. I'm sorry about that. Yeah, it seems like it's going to be pretty steep. But as we get closer and closer to the deadline, teams are going to have to make a decision here. And if you're the Tigers and Jack Flaherty, not in your long term plan, then if you're the White Sox and Garrett Crochet is probably going to be gone and free agency before you can contend again. I think he's strike while the iron's hot and it's a seller's market. So yeah, it'll be steeper to get the starters, but there becomes a point in time where everybody walks away. And it's one of the main buyers who's looking for starting pitching is the Orioles and they're notoriously holding on to prospects. So there will be a point where the asking price gets too high and the teams just stay fine. We'll go with what we have. So I think once we get closer to the deadline, it might shake things loose a little bit there. Matt Snyder, CBS Sports, always gracious enough to join us, especially the day before the trade deadline when a lot of people are making a lot of phone calls. And we really do appreciate the time, Matt. What is the next 24 hours like in the life of a general manager? How close can you go to kind of telling us what the likes of AJ Preller and the rest of these guys are doing for the next 24 hours? Are they, are they honestly just sitting there making call after call after call? Are they, are they sweating it out? Are agents calling trying to make things happen? Like how nuts is this right here? I think there's a lot of delegation that goes on. And yeah, sometimes I do think obviously once it gets close to the finish line, Preller wouldn't need to be on the horn with whatever general manager or club president they're dealing with. Let's just say it's Chris get to the white sock. But before you get closer to the finish line, I think there's a lot of exchanging names and tossing out the ideas which come from people ranked below the the main boss there. So I still think it's incredibly hectic. You just have to delegate because you can't keep up with everything, every conversation that needs to be had. And, you know, especially seeing something like, for example, the Cubs trading for Esauk Paredes. Something like that can't come about if the, if Jed Hoyer is just sitting around and saying, you know what, we're not really going to sell that much because we're, you know, we're in limbo here between a buyer and a seller. So maybe we'll just be quiet. Unless you're having tons of conversations, you don't even stumble on the idea of, Hey, they'd give us Paredes if we included Morrell. You know, you don't stumble on that idea if you're content to to St. Pat. So they have to be having tons of conversations. You know, Matt, one of the teams that's interesting that seems like they're kind of it also in that, I don't know that that kind of midpoint, whether to buy or sell is the Toronto Blue Jays. They have moved Turner today. It sounds like Kukuchi is a guy that teams are calling on. Do you think they end up moving Vlad Jr. or Bish it in this deadline? Or do you think that's an off season deal? I think it could be argued that they should. But every bit of reporting we've done and every indication we have is that they think they have enough of a foundation in place that they can contend next year. And they're still hoping to extend both Bishette and Vlad. So they're going to hold on to them. And they're basically only going to move guys who were up at the end of the year in our rentals, like Kukuchi and like Justin Turner. So that being the case, there's probably not that much more for them to move. So it's a lot of their guys are locked up. Like they've got what four more years on Barrios. Gossman has three more years. Chris Bassett has two more years. And Vlad and Bishette aren't up until after next season. So I think they want to keep that core and build around it. So that means the rentals like Turner, maybe Kevin Kermier, he's a rental, stuff like that. But in Kukuchi, I think those are going to be the main ones because they're just going to try to do a better job of building around the guys that they have signed through this year, through next year. Tell us a little bit about what you know about Jason Adam for those who aren't familiar. This guy's been on the few different teams. He pitched in the World Series for Tampa Bay. A couple of years ago, we're in that playoff run. Every time I've seen him pitch, he's pretty much lights out. He's got an ERN or three. You can't have too much relief heading into it if you're going to make a postseason run. So this makes makes a lot of sense. It gives the Padres maybe two, maybe three eighth inning guys ahead of Suarez now. Yes, absolutely. He has really, really good stuff. He had a terrible season for the Cubs a few years ago and the Rays picked him up and basically just fixed him, which happens sometimes. But high strikeout rate when he's on doesn't walk many guys. He's going to be mostly forcing fastball as most relievers are. But his out pitches, he can use a change slider or a sweeper. It would slide or sweeper. It's pretty similar, but you know, it's a different shape to it. But he is relying on a change, which I guess you don't see as much in relievers these days or whether they're usually like fastball slider or something like that. It's like a throwback to Trevor Hoffman with the fastball change. But yeah, he used a change about a fourth of the time. Matt, lastly for me, you know, Blake Snell, he took a long time to find a home. He eventually did with the Giants. They're another one of these teams that are kind of in that no man's land. You're starting to hear reports on teams calling in on Blake Snell. Do you think that's kind of a pie in this guy idea? Or do you think that's actually something that could happen? I think there's a chance he goes now. It's interesting. Three and a half games out. It doesn't far hands ID is the type of guy who gives up when they're only three and a half games out. That's like a raised move, right? They just gave up. It doesn't feel like they will, but you know, it's always possible to see a package that they like and they continue to get healthier in the rotation anyway. They just got Robbie Ray back. Alex Cobble will be back. They could probably fill a rotation without Snell. If they look at it like, hey, we can get something back for Snell. Maybe they'll want something closer to Big League ready to help the offense. Maybe they would move on from that because he just has the player option for next year. But a lot of most people think he's just going to hit free agency again and try to sign with the team earlier and get a longer term deal. So if they viewed him as a rental and they thought they could get something back, it might make sense to move him and kind of do it in a way that helps them this year as well as for the future. I wouldn't mind seeing him go back to San Diego. That'd be pretty fun. There's a bunch of people out here that would mind seeing him back in the five or year four. Since he came back from the IL, he's looking like last year again. The last four starts 0.75 ERA. Yeah, Blake and Tony were good buddies. So I definitely want to get Blake back. That 30 million dollar player option is probably the thing that's scared. That's why we probably can't have Tony because you're not willing to give up any of your salary to help in the guy. Yeah, that's the thing. I think most people think he's definitely going to not exercise it, but it is a risk. I'm worried about salary for next year that he could always say, hey, I'm just going to exercise it and stay here. So there are teams who would be scared off by that. For top of my head, the Orioles, I think would be scared off by that. Matt, it's always great having you with us. I just want to the Padres just finished a 7-2 road trip that included taking series from Cleveland and Baltimore. That to me establishes you as something. Now, I know they're right in the middle of this wild card. There's six teams within three and a half games is what they've done though kind of convinced anybody around baseball that this is a team that if they make the right move and they get into the postseason that you better be worried. Yeah, me. I think they definitely could be. My power rankings intro today, I wrote both the Diamondbacks and Padres. The way things are moving for them, the way things are coming together, I think they're both going to be dangerous in the postseason, assuming they make it, which is it is a big leap because there's so many teams right there and you don't know who's going to get hot at the right time. But if they get in, and I assume it'll be a wild card, it's six and a half, seven and a half, out behind the Dodgers as a stretch, they'll start getting a little healthier. But yeah, I think they definitely could be dangerous, but then again, you could lose in the wild card round. It's such a short series. So many flukey things happen these days, but I do think the level of talent that they've had, the injuries they've already dealt with, assuming they can get everybody right, you need to be firing out cylinders when you get there. So you need luck in addition to being good, but they definitely have the firepower that if they make it, they could get hot. Yes. And I joked with Tony that a pro far would have cleared the bases with a double in the ninth inning and completed that comeback. They might have had to give him the MVP award right there. I know it's a joke, but where do you put pro far in the MVP list right about now in the national league? We're, we put him way too high because we've seen him here all year, but we're kind of open, right? Like it's so tawny and then everybody else. Okay. I think Bryce Harper's got to be up there. Kristen Yellich would be up there, but now he has that back injury and it's worrisome. They said he might have that surgery. Mookie was up there, but he's been hurt for a while. He's been out for a while. So it seems like it's Otani and then everybody else. Francisco Lindor, if the meds keep playing like this and he keeps playing like he's playing, he's going to be up there. I think Capella Marte deserves a lot more credit than he's getting and holding up the Diamondbacks, especially with Corbin Carroll being so bad, Capella Marte has been amazing. So pro far is probably in that tier with guys like Marte and Lindor, where you could see them continuing to make it push, but it just feels like everybody's playing for a second right now. Yeah, Matt, it's still been a great story out here for sure all year long. And Matt, we thank you so much for the time. Have fun the next 24 hours. We'll talk to you soon. Oh, I will. All right. Have a good one. All right. There he goes. Matt Snyder, CBS Sports, the latest on the trade deadline and the Padres and pro far. If the guy finished second in the MVP balloting, that would be like unbelievable considering the career that he's, you know, had it would be in his 12th year. I wonder with a second place finish. Do you think you could find odds on what that was at the beginning of the season? Oh, my goodness. Oh, I'm sure you can. You could have put like a very small amount on and you could have bought a house even in San Diego on that on those odds. All right. It's been fun to watch like you said. Oh, man has it. All right. We'll take a break. More's winning Chris coming up, including a daily gambit and hour number two. One hour in. No one has choked anyone out. I know it's been a while since we've all been in the same room. But all is good here so far. Three o'clock on the Dow 20 when junior Chris Ello. A Matt Scravey Padres with a much deserved off day, I must say after going seven and two, seven and two. Man, they have a lot of off days right now. We need them. They are living the dream to Padres. They're off today. They're off Thursday. I was tired. I'm tired of next Monday too. Next Monday too. I'm tired of looking, of writing in my scorecard game one oh six and every other team has played less game. So you know what? Time to catch up everybody. Time to catch up. Yeah. Piders are off today. They're off Thursday. They're off next Monday. That's a lot of work for us. Padres have. Come on. I don't know that I've wrote a scar scorecard down this year that the body hasn't played. I think they've played more games in their opponent all season. It's going to change because there's a bunch of off days coming up and in August. So yeah, we got a daily gambit ready for you guys. We also have Chris gets and you might be asking who is Chris gets? Well, he is the GM currently trying to finesse a crochet deal and you didn't seem pretty happy. He didn't, he was, I shouldn't say it. He seemed very diplomatic, but he didn't seem like he was enjoying the process. We'll play that for you in the next segment. Well, crochet was the guy that came out basically and said, you can trade for me, but I'm not pitching in the playoffs for you unless you give me a contract extension. Yeah. Like really? I believe he's represented by Josh haters agency. Are you sure? Are you just, was it trying to put one and one together there? Uh, let me make sure. But I'm pretty sure. Yeah, make sure. I'm pretty sure. Did you get a dig in a Josh hater on that? He did. He did. He did. It was more about, it was more a dig at the agency. Josh ain't doing that. But pitching in Houston, Scraeby over here throwing. Is Josh CAA? Cause I'm throwing a makers. I don't know what his agency is. Oh, let me see. I mean, for myself personally, that's the last kind of guy I want. Tony, I mean, I want to guide the credit card trade. Yeah, CAA, both represented by the same company, which means that this is a strategy of CAA now. All right. All right. All right. I don't know if it's a strategy or not, but in our next segment, you'll get a chance to hear how Chris gets feels about the strategy. And if it's a strategy that he would like, that he would have done, nonetheless, uh, you know, guys, it is getting closer to football. Have you guys watched this receiver? You know, that the quarterback Netflix? Yeah. I watched the first episode of receivers and haven't yet gotten to number two. I got through number two on the, on that good God awful long flight. And it's good. It's really good. It's going to make me have to go back and watch the quarterback ones that I never got a chance. Oh, that one is so good. I know that you guys were like, we loved the, the, they made you look at a bunch of guys. You think Kirk Cousins is a pretty good guy. If you watch the quarterback one, you're all like, I kind of like Kirk Cousins now, although his, his brain exercises are a little much. He goes out there. He's got a deep limb for sure. Oh, I definitely, uh, enjoyed the first couple episodes. Now I have to know, and this is a, maybe a job for you, Tony, as pro far, if he did the gritty the other day, because he was watching receiver and just, I did notice the gritty. He's, he's, he's whipped it out twice now. Twice the same game. In the last, in the same game. Um, it's interesting that you asked me that, because as I was watching the first couple episodes, about four hours into this flight, uh, and yell, tapped me on my shoulder. He saw me watching it on my iPad and he was like, hey, this is good. I've been, I've been watching it too. So there might be something to that. Maybe he, you know, maybe pro has been inspired by one, uh, Justin Jett Jefferson. By the way, I'm huge fan Justin Jefferson now. Me too. Huge fan of him now. Me too. Chris only saw the first episode. So he, he got the 49ers and he got, uh, is it, it's not the. Huge fan of, uh, kiddle. I got to see kiddle. I got to see the kiddle and I got to see the third guy in that kiddle's, kiddle's support system. Oh, I'm in rock. I'm in rock, man. Let me tell you, man. His dad is a maniac. His honor is not on all the toughest guy in football. Yes. I think he's got to be a play with it. With you play with a piece of muscle torn off your bone, the whole stuff. I'm sorry. You got it. Not only that, but when they, when they played the clip early, when he was a little boy and his dad was like, oh, yeah. Yeah. He looked like, I don't know. He looked like a cycle. He was like, he was like, he was like, he was like staring at his dad. Like, I'm ready for the next thing that you go throw at it. I hate to tell you, though, man. I mean, child services are ducked in on that video. If I'm in Ross, ain't Brown hadn't become an NFL player. Like, blink once if you're in trouble. I don't know. His dad is intense. Like, he is intense. It was crazy. One of the funniest parts about, about that. And I don't know if there's been a couple different, uh, things on, on, um, I was, how you say this first name? I'm in Ross, Saint Brown. Um, there've been a few different, like kind of in-depth looks. And you know, he grew up in the suburbs and I was watching his dad talk about it. He was like, so we used to every week, we used to go down to Compton and I would put my kids in, you know, in, in that environment and playing pop, pop water football. And he said, eventually other family started to notice he was doing it from where he was living in his suburbs. And it asked, Hey, can you mind taking our, like, no, you got to take your old kids. He's just a straightforward cat. I mean, obviously he was a, uh, a Mr. Olympian. So, I mean, he kind of knows what he's doing a little bit. Yeah. He, but he, isn't he the one who said that Kevin Durant needs to work out with him because he can, his flimsy calves? I think it was during the lion's hard knocks. It might have been. I don't know. That's probably where I saw it. Because he was, he was, uh, in the episode, the first episode, he was, he was getting on, uh, on his son's girlfriend for, for helping with his, his three pump celebration. Yes, which was, which was a very scandalous at the time. The referee said, if you'd have gave one more pump, I would have gave him. I thought that was hilarious. All right. But the second episode is good, Chris. So I'm going to watch it. I'm going to watch it. I'm going to watch it. I'm going to watch Jettison and Devontay. Devontay. He's a, he's a, he's a beast. He's a beast. I already liked most of those guys that they're highlighting, but I even got a little love for debo now. I'm not. It wasn't, I know you're sour on him now. It's great. But, you know, humanizing, actually humanizing things is the best thing for me because I can now like him as a human. Yeah. All right, Chris, you got a daily game before us. I do. Let's get through it. Do you like money? Do you like money without doing anything? Do you want to make money while watching sports? I think Washington is immortal luck. Washington! If you answer yes, this is your segment. Just don't blame us when you lose. Nothing is ever in your fault. When and Chris go through the top bets of the day in the daily gamut on 97.3. The fan. So glad I was on good behavior. Yeah, I need to. All of a sudden, like, why is there no music? Oh, wait. Where everybody's hearing me saying joke of itches old with his knee brace. Yeah. Anyway, daily gamut daily sports betting segment here on Gwen and Chris. Now, I'm just going to update one thing, which would be the nationally winner odds. Dodgers are still at the top because Dodgers Braves Braves Phillies Braves got to be coming down the list. But Brewers and then Padres are the fifth team in the national league. There's a line out there. Hard rock apparently is offering a plus 22.50 line for them to win the pennant, which yeah, I think it's a decent bet right there. How much you have to bet for 22.50 hundred. Yeah, I think that's a decent decent try at something and you can cheer for it too. I mean, it's awesome. Chris bet hundred dollars for me and let's see how it goes. I'll bet you're a hundred dollars. I don't have a hundred dollars. That's why I was asking you. All right. That's really it. I mean, all right. Yeah, there's not a lot happening. We got some Olympic stuff. We can can put some wagers on. But I do think it's crazy that the NFL preseason is only three days away now. Just a little heads up Thursday is the Hall of Fame game, easier Texans and the Bears. So that these cats are actually having like high level talks about 18 playing an extra game. I'm gonna turn it down. I've said this before. We've given up on player safety. Yes, I know the player safety doesn't matter to me. I have no relatives playing in the NFL. Doesn't matter to the NFL either. It doesn't matter to the NFL. I'm right in line. We have fully just given up. I tune in Sunday to watch collisions all day long and I enjoy it. And son, I appreciate these guys are willing to do it for my benefit. Yeah. Anyway, we'll get to the preseason stuff when we get to it. But let's start with the Phillies and the Yankees tonight. Oh, good series. That kind of a good matchup here. The National League's top team against the American League's top wild card team right now. Yankees are still trailing the Orioles in the ALE's. Phillies are favored by a run and a half in the series opener. Scravey, why don't you start? How did I know that was coming to me? I don't know. Jean Carlos Stanton has been activated by the Yankees. So he's back. All right. That's not changed the odds at all. Nope. I'm gonna say, where is this game? This isn't Philadelphia with Zach Wheeler on the mound. Oh, I'm going Phillies. Luis Gil for the Yankees. Luis Gil's been pretty good. He's been good. I'm gonna go with the Phillies though at home. Then you're gonna give a run and a half. I'll take a flyer on the ice cold Yankees. Stay within a run. Maybe win the game. Tony. Yankees get a run and a half in case that matters to you. I'm gonna go fields. You're still gonna go with the Phillies. Okay. The best pitcher in the history of baseball is on the mound tonight. Paul Skins. Paul Skins. All right. We'll be pitching for the Pirates. I love Chris and his sarcasm. Well, he's saying it for me. I'm just saying it for you. He's literally trying to be crazy with this every time. He's in Houston tonight taking on the Astros and his over under is six and a half strikeouts. Scraver, you still hate not skiing? Oh, yeah. It's not a Paul says this every time, but he hates skates. It's a media coverage hatred. He hates. You know, he lost the other day. I didn't hear anything about that. Like, come on. If you're gonna cover him when he wins, I didn't hear any. I heard a ton about that. It was his first loss. It's a big deal. Oh, it's funny. Because I did hear that he lost, but I also heard to go along with it. You want to hear it? I left that out. I left that out. It was his first time pitching into the ninth. See, I like Paul Skins, the baseball player. Hate the media coverage. I don't know what you want them to do. They have to do it. Do you hate Caitlin Clark too? No, I like your current Clark. All right. Well, then why do you hate the coverage of Paul Skins? He's the next young big thing in baseball. Yes. Why shouldn't they be covering the hell out of it? Because they should be. Because he's never mind. I'm not going down the street. No, no, no, no, no, no, you lose mine when you've been beaten. It's a losing battle. So I'm never going to lose arguments. It's a losing argument. You've lost. You've lost this argument. And you just, you and my wife, you and my wife both have the same response. That's why I've never won an argument with my wife. Because when I'm on the precipice of victory, she just goes, never mind. But why don't you believe that I gave it over? Why don't you not win? Why won't you win this one? Why don't you believe me that I like Paul Skins, the pitcher, but I don't like the media coverage because you're because I don't know why you don't like the media coverage. Your face. Caitlin Clark, when you get ready to talk about Paul Skins, your face like, it's because of the media. The media. The meeting is just doing what the media does. I don't want to know what he's being. Because there's, I made this whole thing on the screen show last week about how Jackson Merrill is the rookie of the year. And there's no doubt about it up until this point, Tony, because he plays every single day. Paul Skins has played what? Well, again, under that way of thinking that no pitcher should ever win a rookie of the year, no pitcher, because no pitcher can win that if they do all they make all their starts. He came up late. He's not going to play the entire season. So he should be penalized for not, for a team purposely keeping him down. I don't think he should be penalized, but it should be top of mind that he did not play a full season. And so his numbers are screwed by that. I don't disagree with you. Thank you. Finally, it doesn't mean I think Paul Skins should, you know, not be where he's at though. He's doing stuff that's pretty phenomenal. Now the, now you got the channel on, on the, you got the shadow, you didn't get to chat on you. He has not made all of his starts because he didn't start the season. He's been ever, he made every start that he's had a chance to make. Not, not only has he made them, he's dominated them. If they're going to say he's made every start this year, you have to say he's made every start since he debuted later in the year with that changer. So if they said he's made every start since he debuted and whatever time, he's still the lead candidate for rookie year. Would that make it better? Yes. Oh, because they're actually saying what is the story, the facts of everything. Okay, it's great. He's not going to make 32 starts this year. I'm going to put one hand tonight is whether it's going to get six and a half strike out. Geez. We really care about the rest of the crap. And I, yes, pretty sure he's going to go over. Yes. Met do that by the third inning. Tony, you're going over six and a half strikeouts. Scrave, if you don't go over, you're just a hater. Oh, if skiing strikeouts don't go over. Six and a half. Is he going to pitch six and a third innings or more? Six and a third. Who's he facing? He's at Houston, he's done against a team that usually wears pitchers down a little bit. Tony, you're first on this one. Six and a third innings over or under for for skis. Actually, if he gets the six and a third, he'll be over. He'll be over. Oh, I think he gets the six and a third. You think, yes, he's going to get that first out in the seventh thing. Yeah, but then he's coming out. Then he's coming out after he wins you the bet. All right, Scravey, I'm going to go over as well over the guy does pitch deep in the games. I think I think the Astros will give him a tough time. He'll come out after six. I'll say under tonight just for fun. A little Olympic. I got to see what sport this is men's basketball. Tomorrow morning, Spain favored by four over Janis and Greece in the Olympic basketball tournament Scravey. Spain minus four. Janis had like 30 something points. He was a one man wrecking crew, but they lost the first game. I didn't see all the rest of the results. I'm going to go with Spain. Can he give the details? Happy that. I mean, the one good thing about this whole change we're going to hear. It's coming back. We will get to hear that. That's a that's a good part of me. Yeah, that's that song. I'm going to go with I'll go Spain too. I just Janis can't do it by himself. Tony. Yeah, the Greek freak is. He's up against it. He's really good, but he's he can't do it by himself. He's up against it. France is favored by 17 over Japan. I don't know anybody on how France has everybody in the draft. Oh, it's got a wedding and they got the the alien. When do you want to be? I'll take France then Tony France. Anybody from take the points? We take France. Nobody's going to take the points. Yes. And then U.S. soccer men's against Guinea. I know. That's what it says. Guinea. Is it new Guinea, old Guinea, regular Guinea? I think it's just Guinea now. Guinea, Guinea. Tony's up first. You're as funny as if someone's going to message us saying, I can't believe I know what Guinea is. I can't believe you didn't know what Guinea was. How do you not know and what the capital is? You know, when they were getting their independence, you know, people like to be outraged. This was a thing to do. I definitely love to go to my DMs after a show and see that I have about seven, which means people are outraged about something. The United States against Guinea, you got to give a half goal if you want the Americans, Tony. Give me the U.S. A. U.S. A. Scrabby. I'm gonna go. U.S. A. Oh, I thought you. I love almost went with Guinea. But if I don't know where Guinea is, I can't choose Guinea. I just want you to take USA. But last week, Tony, I brought up an unpopular, what I thought was going to be a very unpopular, an unpopular notion that I was going to actually root against the U.S. men's basketball team and be unpatriotic. And the chat was 50/50. Some actually supported me and agreed with me. They weren't running for those guys. May I ask why they weren't rooting for? I don't know. Did they all say Scrabby? You were... Oh, no. We came to the agreement that this team is unlikable. They're unlikable. Tony? I do think they're unlikable. They're unlikable. Go ahead, Tony. Go ahead, Tony. Go ahead, Tony. Go ahead, Tony. Go ahead and root for the other kinds of... I said I am... You guys are wack. No, no. Hold on. I said I will root for Team USA, but Chris said he wouldn't. I said I'm not. I said I'm not. And we... If you choose not to watch them, fine. Treason! He's gonna be hanged in the square. All right, we've got more coming up with Tony Gwen Jr. and Benedict Arnold. After traffic. Wait, am I Benedict Arnold? No, I... Oh, okay. That's right. That's right. Yes. When Chris resumes. You get to hear so much music sometimes. It's because I'm trying to unscramble my earbuds, get them straightened out, and back into my ears. Welcome back 325 is the time Chris Sallow, Tony Gwenger. You and I you know what we might have to chip in and you and I for a Christmas this year. What now? Getting some new some new wireless. No you don't want to be a wire regardless. We're going to get to know you can get how does your thing. I don't know I take it off like this. Everybody's watching I put it down like that and it's nice and open and but then by the time I throw it over here a couple times and we got to move it for all the crackers they need so I got to write notes during the break. I got to you know work on the show. You don't write notes during the break. You think I just have all of this at the top of my head? Yeah. Come up with brilliant stuff. Yeah segment after segment on my own. Yes. Really good stuff. One thing that I don't think was brilliant was Garrett Crochet announcing or having his agent announced that if you traded for him he wouldn't pitch in the playoffs unless you gave him a new contract. The one thing I'm sure he didn't think about when he said this or his agent did was how much more difficulty made life for his own general manager of the White Sox who's trying to get rid of the guy trying to basically do him a favor trade him away from the worst team in baseball. Maybe one of the worst teams in the last 50 years there they're going to push up against history possibly. You know I mean they're as bad as you can be and it just got worse too by the way because they just traded away Eric Fettie and Tommy Famm got out of there today. Tom both go to the Cardinals if you're wondering. But Crochet says this and now his general manager has to try to make it sound like that didn't bother him as much as it probably did. So let's hear what Chris gets. Yes. Had to say. The communication had been very strong between Garrett and I and you know his agency and you know I was a little surprised and taken back by how they went about it and you know considering that I had a conversation with his agent the other night before. I didn't you know that's not exactly the tactic that I wouldn't take him. You know you can be a forward player quite honestly. You know just because the dialogue has been so honest and and real and careful and mindful of his career because you know I've known him since we got him so I was I was a little surprised by it. I was. I think most people, most fans and even players you know without knowing everything would it make sense. I think we understand you know why a stance would be taken like that. Now how you go about expressing that is what was you know get hurtful quite honestly considering I felt like we we could have handled it a little bit differently and still I think everyone accomplished what they want to do accomplished. So you know but I you know Garrett's a you know very talented arm and he's just getting his his starting career going and you know he's he's looking out for I get the feeling that of Chris sorry I put the wrong window. I get the feeling Chris gets what it kept talking there he eventually would have just finally said what he was really thinking. He was he was working his way around. He was working his way toward at the very beginning he was a little disappointed then he was you know kind of disappointed. Then he was you know he understood it but he was disappointed. Then he said he got hurt by it. Then he got hurt and he was disappointed. Yeah I think if he would have just let him go for another five minutes there he probably would have eventually said what we're all thinking which is how dare this bleeper you know say what he said and make it impossible for me to trade him. But that's just the way it is that's the business that we're all in I guess. You guys look out for number one. We go find out if this was the right move or not. I mean because this at I don't know I don't know I I hate as an at when I was still playing I hate it like losing I didn't want to be in a like a terribly bad as it gets right there they got what 28 wins on the year. They are 54 games under 500. They've lost 14 games in a row twice again saw that and they're in the midst of it right now 14 in a row at this guy's pitching two innings a game three innings. Don't get me started Chris. Well I don't want to get you started I'm trying to explain. I don't know why anybody I don't even know why anybody would still want to acquire. Has he been pitching three innings of the game like all season? No the last three or four starts though there's just in the mood or what I don't know what his problem is. Yeah I'll tell you hold on I'm gonna go to my fantasy app and tell you how much he hasn't done in the last little bit. Okay last start with three innings to start before four the start before that two the start before that four and then he was pretty normal before that. Yeah I mean I don't know I don't know why you'd want to take a risk. His name sounds really good. He struck out a lot of batters but I don't need divas on the roster. I was gonna ask him. Don't even let me say that we had one last year and it didn't work out too well. I say that out loud. Sorry I didn't need to. I was just thinking. Well I was the one who insinuated they have the same agency so they're on the same plan. But is inside the world baseball is this being a diva? Do you think players think he's a diva Tony? I don't know it's the players are you know they think it they see it differently than I think the generation that I came. So I'm not sure how they feel about it. I just you know it just doesn't seem like a smart move. I mean you want an extension right he's trying what he's trying to do is avoid the things that everybody else who's had injuries like him have had to avoid which is you got to prove that you can stay healthy. He just he wants to loot before he proves that he can stay healthy. Yeah he wants the loot right. He wants the loot now. He has he came up in 20 pitch six innings. That was the truncated uh post season. I think they lost to Oakland in the first round. Oh right. They did. He might have got hurt in that series. Comes back to next year out of the bullpen 54 innings uh 54 games two eight two great year right. I don't know what his injury status was missed all of 22 due to injury. So clearly he got injured in there somewhere and then 23 also only pitched 12 and two thirds of anything. So I'm assuming when he did come back it was towards the end of the year. Yeah um and then this year has been with the team the whole year. And so this is the first year he's starting. He's having tremendous success and he says I kind of want to uh get an extension if I'm going to be traded and if you want me pitching a post season that definitely has to happen. That just makes it doesn't make any sense to me. Oh it makes a lot of sense to me if I'm if I'm uh you know spoiled rotten and totally in love with myself it makes a ton of sense. I mean it makes it also may speak to the fact that he is concerned about the injuries. Like I may not be able to stay up. So let me strike why the irons are now before before I have to show that I can stay healthy. I wonder honestly if this is going to be start becoming like uh maybe uh thing because Josh Hader did it and it worked out for him. He got his money in the end. But here's the thing. Here's the difference though. Josh Hader had a long. Josh Hader was already the best track record. Right. Like good point. Wrong track. Very good point. And so he could play this game. He could be like you know what matter of fact he was playing the game because he had already been. He was a victim of the game. Of the game. Yeah. And so he he had a different completely different platform than crochet. Crochet ain't even a free agent until what we got he got like another year I believe of of of um control control. Yeah. So it's to me it might even be two years quite frank. I think it's two years. You got another two years. So I don't see the play. Now I could end up completely wrong tomorrow. He could get dealt. He could get his extension. The reality is though he could get dealt not get his extension and then have to really toe that line. Do you really are we are you gonna stand by? You gonna stand on the fact that you said you were not gonna pitch in the postseason because I can't imagine that being the greatest look for you. If you do get traded and you hold tight to that I'm not pitching in the postseason completely healthy. Now that that'll piss some dudes off. Yeah. For sure. You're telling me this guy's gonna get traded to the Dodgers say he's gonna walk into the NBA now. Sorry. Sorry show Hey. Sorry Freddie Freeman. Sorry Mookie bets. I'm not doing it. Call it. So there could be a team that that calls his bluff. Now do you have the do you have the piles of prospects that you're gonna have to give up and be okay with giving them up to call his bluff? I don't know. Maybe not. It's a lot. It's a lot working there. I'm looking at Garrett Crochet being a white sock for the foreseeable future. We'll find out in the next 24 hours. Don't forget tomorrow's trade deadline coverage includes the baseball America former baseball America writer Kyle Glaser in studio with us. Tell break it all down. We'll break away for a brief moment here. Gwen and Chris F.A. Q. This is fast becoming a very popular segment on the program. It's where Scrabby asks us embarrassing questions and we're in force to answer them for you. Stick around. Now we got a rollover crash on eastbound 905 near the 805. So to the right shoulder, but emergency crews have got that right lane blocked. So just watch out for the light to be there, take it extra carefully. I'm Kelly Dannick with really Chris and Diego's number one sports station, 97.3 the fan. All right. So I'm working on the open. I just got the voicing back. So we will have an open for the future. But Chris, I feel like you said that the last time we played this. No, I don't think I did. I'm pretty sure you've said it the last three times. This is the third time we played it. So you said it every time working on the old. The first one to be your new nickname. The first one is we try it out. I don't want to open. I don't want to use the second one. The second one is okay. Are we going to do this going forward? So then so the third one is this time is where I need to start making the opening because we made it to the third one. So by the fourth time, we'll be ready to go. Yeah. That makes sense. By the way, Tony, also in the works are a new top of the hour re-entroing the show open. I do have that right right now for about a year. I've been hearing that for a good year. Hold on. Chris was the one who said you didn't care if they ever changed. So I'm just saying we heard this before. I believe it when I see it. Chris greenlit my name in the open. So now all my stupid things that I say are going to be in the open. Oh, he greenlit you. Yeah. I asked him. I said he better check with you. I didn't want to head and said I don't need to check. Anyway, so I have a list of questions. It's kind of like an icebreaker type game. But these are just about us. And then the fourth category is for all of us. So Chris is going to roll the dice or the die. And whatever comes up is what we're going to ask. So Chris, go ahead. Whatever comes up on the die is who has to answer the question. And this is number I've rolled twice. You got five, six fell off the table and two. Two is a Tony question. Tony Gwen Jr. on the spot. All right. Let's see. Oh, I like this one. If the baseball thing didn't work out, did you have a backup career plan? I did that. I would love to. I would love to say that I'd play basketball or something like that. But that probably wasn't in the cards. You know, I'm here's the honest answer. The reality of it is, at least in my view, is when you're pursuing something of the levels that I'm pursuing, I think you got to be all in. You can't have like, you know, one of the eggs I won't put it over here just in case. I don't think you give yourself your best shot at that. I agree with that. I do. Not what I expected for you to answer. But thank you for being honest. Chris rolled again, please. That was it. That was it. He didn't seem too uncomfortable. Well, not all the questions are too. I've rolled two more twos. Does he have to keep answering? Go ahead. Two in a row. Okay. Well, it means it wants Tony. They want Tony. Okay. Let's see. Okay, Tony. What do your kids do that drive you insane as a collective? They think they know anything. And it's like mind-boggling to me. Like, and now I kind of understand what my parents felt about me. Like, there's like, how could you possibly think at 13? You know more than me. I've literally been here for 20 plus years longer than you. What there's not even a thought that goes like, maybe this has happened to him before. Or maybe he's hitting, you know what, then I, after I'm irritated and like, irritated and pissed off, I go upstairs and I think to myself, yeah, you probably said the same thing to your parents, didn't you? Yep, I probably did too. It doesn't make it any less frustrating. No, it does not. I don't have any kids, but the kids I deal with, I like to just let them find out for themselves that they were wrong. I think that's a great joy out of that. It's one of my favorite things now. One of your favorite strategies when they come back to me, Chris. They're tail between their legs. And without me having to, like, ridicule or come down on on and say anything. The times that they come back and are like, and you know, at this age, they still aren't going to come out and straight up say that you are right. They're not going to say you are right. They're going to say it in their own way, but there's no more, like, for feeling that is fun. Oh, God, it's so satisfying. It doesn't happen enough, though. I feel like it needs to have to. It's probably going to start happening more. It's going to happen more, for sure. The older they get, the more complex problems get. Exactly. Exactly. And the more you realize, I don't know everything. What's the way to die? I finally got out of one. Okay, one is a Chris question. Let's see. Okay, Chris, did you ever think you were going to be a pro baseball player? Like in the majors? Yep. I don't know. I don't think so. You didn't have dreams of being a pro-fate baseball player heading into college. You didn't ask him about dreams. You said, did you ever think that he was going to be a pro? Realistically, well, realistically, I never really felt like I had a chance. I mean, I guess my senior year in high school when I was the all conference guy, and maybe I thought it was pretty good. But when I got to San Diego State and realized I was about the 11th guy and an 11 man team, I really didn't think there was a whole lot of chance. I liked to pitch though. So I kept pitching to see what would happen. I knew that I got a lot of guys out, but I could read the writing on the wall. The writing on the wall said, you don't have the necessary skills to make it to another level. So you had a that's, I didn't throw hard enough. And I just, I didn't. So I wasn't going to, it was going to happen. I was going to have to be perfect and like throw a perfect game every time out for somebody to go, this guy, give this guy a shot. Hey, that trait that Chris has, I think is missing in a lot of. You mean the one that you realistic with yourself? This thing that came up that was like, yeah, I don't, I don't got what that guy has. Yeah. And I don't think I'm ever going to be able to do that. Yeah. I think that's a missing element. I do a lot of people. It frustrated me because I got it. I got as many guys out as that guy did, but it wasn't going to get me anywhere. So I think, you know, because you know, that's the same feeling I got with basketball and like, like my senior year, it's just like, yeah, man, as athletic as I am, guys are just better than there are dudes that were better. There are. I realized when I was on the practice squad of Costa Canyon football team, I got again, I got crushed on a play. I was like, I'm never going to be a pro football player. Just devastating. All right, Chris, roll again. What's your number? Three. That's what came up. Look at that. Oh, so you guys get to choose a go, go to the list. Oh, you guys get to choose a question. Oh, I got one. Okay. I got one. Yeah. Oh, wait. What's your worst breakup story? There's a couple, but I would say worst breakup is where I was the meanest. I was living in Cincinnati. I was dating a girl. Cincinnati, you do that to you, yeah, heavy mean. I decided one day that I don't want to live here anymore, and I'm driving home. Like home to where? California. Cincinnati? Yes. So I told the girl I was dating, hey, I'm moving home and just left. And I still to this day, feel very bad about it. You gave her no time to even discuss with you. You just walked out the door. Were you guys sharing an apartment? No, no, nothing like that. But we were dating for like, good six, seven months. She deserved something from me and it's like an explanation or at least a discussion. And I didn't even let her in. So I feel really bad to this day. I didn't even, I did it in person. But it was on my birthday at a sushi restaurant when I told her that I was moving home and then she started crying. And then you walked out of the sushi restaurant and got into your car and drove away. I want to hear just how mean you were diabolical. Yeah, I got out of or when we left the sushi restaurant, she wanted to go home to her house, obviously. So I went back to where I was living. And then the next day I left. You just drove to San Diego and are the Bay Area. Wherever you are. I'm saying this right now. The worst I feel about it. I honestly want to reach out and say sorry. You guys were dating seven months when you did this. Yeah. Yeah. It was messed up. And you know what? I deserve all the karma I can get from that one. I think that you are. You're still getting it. I think you're still getting it. By the way, there's some young lady standing outside the window with an axe. Another one was I broke up with someone because her the mac and cheese wasn't good enough. So I stopped it. She said she had great mac and cheese. You're playing. I'm not kidding. We were all for like two months. I was like 25. And so she said she had the best mac and cheese in the world. I was looking for a way out. I was looking for a way out. You should start with that. So the most ridiculous breakup was over mac and cheese. Anyway, Chris, go ahead and roll the day. I'm scared to roll another three. And yes, Joseph, I did pay for dinner that night. Another two of the time I waited today, Tony. All right. Most most memorable bench-clearing incident. I was a player, Tony. I think this is still on YouTube, too. I was in Albuquerque. I was an Albuquerque isotope at the time. I was with the Dodgers. It was in Triple A. And we had some wild dudes on our team. We're playing the Cardinals. And a kid by the name of Justin Sellers. Or no, somebody before him. It might have been D. Gordon. Somebody in a bomb enjoyed it. Sellers comes up. They throw up at his head. They end up hitting the next guy. He charges from first base. It's like a full-on melee. I got, I can't remember who I had. There were some big leaguers in there, a former big leaguer. I had one of them in my eye, kind of like in my headlock. Not in the headlock. I was playing peacemaker. I've been enough of those at this point where it's a dangerous thing. So I think I had a couple guys. There was a teammate of mine getting choked out. Kind of had to feign at the guy to let go. So he let go. And then that caused another melee. I had D. Gordon. And gosh, it was a left-handed pitcher through really hard for the Cardinals. I can't remember his name. But they, they're going back and forth. It was like, it was like a serious, like had to have you have it on a swivel type of thing. I'm trying to look for it. Um, you and D. Gordon were a good team. Yeah. Isotopes and the redbirds. Oh, that's it. It says, I, okay, I'm gonna look for this later. Can I answer that even though I wasn't asked? Sure. I was sitting in the third base dugout at Charlie Smith Field before it was Tony Gwen Stadium. I know this one you're talking about. No, you don't. I think I do. I don't think you know this one, because I was sitting over there yelling at some guy who got thrown out trying to set just single into a double. And I was ripping the guy when he was at bat and I was ripping his decision-making on the base school. What? Were you at school? Yeah. Oh, I was gonna make sure you're not some dude on the bench. I was in the dugout on the bench on the team, but I was just, I was ragging on the guy endlessly. And he got up from his being out at second base and ran straight out me in the dugout. Did you start up wrong? No, I mean, it was like Point Loma Nazarene in like a pickup game or something. I heard a crazy one with my uncle Chris was involved. This was like a full-on like melee. It might have been against Long Beach State or one of those times, one of those teams that got like serious fifth cuffs. I try to remember who told me the story about it. But I think about it over the break. There's been a few there at Charlie Smith Field. As exciting as Brawls may look, they're kind of scary. Yeah, because there's a bunch of angry people that don't know exactly why they're out there. And you know, anything can happen when you got that kind of thing going on. Yeah, the one brawl that I was in, I got a pizza throwing out my face. Pizza, huh? Yeah, they threw pizza at me and it got on my face and it hurt. So it's hot. You are the meanest person on Earth. Oh, don't that poor woman? Oh, you are. I do really feel that. There's really no coming back from that. Why did I just have to say that? I should have said something else. I should have lied. No, you shouldn't have. You should have told the truth so we can continue to point out the flaw in that way you went about it. Yeah. More going to Chris on the way. Chris is fans. Hey, welcome back to it. San Diego, we head into the four o'clock hour. Chris Hello, Tony Ben Jr, Matt Scrabie, together in our Odyssey Palace studios, 97 three, the fan day off for the San Diego Padres who come back home after an unbelievable road trip, talked about it in length earlier, seven and two, a seven game wind streak in there, three shut out to no hitter by Dylan sees more magic from jerks and pro far and on and on it went. Now we'll see what the Padres can do back at Petco Park where they haven't played as well as they have on the road and they'll get the Dodgers for two. And then after another day off on Thursday, they'll host the Colorado Rockies whose only road playoff series win this year was the one they got here in San Diego way back in May, the sweet, the sweet Rockies have not won another series on the road this year. So five home games coming up, really good pitching match ups to start the series with glass now facing Waldron tomorrow and no hitter Dylan cease against Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday. Actually a really good matchup. Tony, I'm sure you'll hear the name Johnny Vandermeer come up Wednesday night. You know why? Even I know why even Scravey knows why you'll hear the name Johnny Vandermeer come up. I bet you're your partner Jesse Atlas. Jesse will bring mention it. Mm hmm. I feel like I know this and I just definitely know it like blanking on. You're just in a fog. Johnny Vandermeer is the only person ever in baseball history to throw two. Oh, yes. No, here's in a row. Yes. Yes. So that's what Dylan cease will be attempting to do on Wednesday night. Let's not let's not set expectations too high for him. Oh boy. No. I okay, you guys don't need to stop the show when I raise my hand. Why are you raising it then? Because there has been a trade that went through that may help the Padres. Oh wow. That's right. Wait, where's your where's your breaking? This is a breaking news type. Oh, you don't have the sound. You don't even have it? I mean, we don't we don't use it. This is breaking. I think we use it quite often. I think Lane Thomas was expected to be on the move at some point was was not enough. Oh, okay. But he's going to the Cleveland Guardians. That's a good move for finalizing a deal to acquire him from the Washington Nationals left handed pitching prospect Alex Clemy and two other prospects going to Washington. I like telling a little player. I tell you what, man, I getting to watch him the last two years play against the Padres. It's pretty good. He's a pretty good player, man. Pretty good. He's got great speed. Great speed. He's almost 30 stone. Yeah, man. I like him. I like his game with a little power. Nice pickup for Cleveland. But what you're saying is that it's good news for the Padres because he's not going elsewhere. I read the National League team. Yeah, I read that the Dodgers were trying or we're in on him. I read some of the other teams and the Mets maybe. Jesse Wieker is now in that too. They got their field. They got they got a Dodgers got Copic and who was the other deal? Got to go to Tommy Edmond. So they're good. They're thinking Tommy Edmond may play center field. He is going for the Dodgers. We'll see. He's got to get healthy first. He hasn't been in the big leagues yet this year. The young man, young man, outman hasn't his struggle mightily this year. He's had a tough year. Tough year. Jason. Why? Was it Andy Pahas who was there before? Pahas was there. So, you know, he's, you know, not helping the situation as much as they thought. They got they got a bunch of problems. They, they're pulled. They're half but four fifths of the rotation is hurt. Yeah, it is. Honestly. You got Kershaw's coming back. Yo come on. He pitched last week. Yama Moto's out. Glass knows back. He returned last week. You got what's the other dude? May. He's still out. Oh, yeah. You're wearing out. Viewers out. Grateral. Grateral rotation. But he's out. So, yeah. But they still have a still have a six and a half game lead on the Padres. Also true. As the two game series gets underway tomorrow night. Uh, okay. Well, along with that news, Lane Thomas going to Cleveland. A couple of other trade moves today. Justin Turner went from Toronto to Seattle. These guys were just talking about a Tommy fam and Eric Fetty go from the White Sox to the Cardinals. Tommy fam or Tommy Edman goes from the Cardinals to the Dodgers. Michael Copec goes from the White Sox to the Dodgers and the Dodgers give away some prospects and the White Sox really don't wind up with anything after that trade, honestly. Pittsburgh Pirates deal young right-handed starter Quinn Prester, former number one pick. Number one first round pick goes to the Red Sox. Our friend Ty France is now a Cincinnati Red. So he may, uh, good for Ty. Hopefully get, you know, this opportunity will work out for him. I mean, I thought it was working out pretty well in Seattle. But man, one slump and they gave up on him. Uh, the only other move today, Michael Lorenzen, Kansas City Royals get the former no hit thrower starting pitcher from Texas. That's it from today. Padres, of course, only may deal. You know what they've made. Jason Adam came from Tampa Bay for three prospects, three pretty good prospects going back to the Tampa Bay Rays. Nothing else from the Friars, at least as of now. Trade deadline. Now 22 hours away tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. All right, we're going to just have a two man game today in Christopher's the fans. Oh, yeah. Well, at the moment, yeah, there's lines open. For those of you say, I've always wanted to play Christopher at the fans. I can never get through. There's never a line open. There's like four lines open, right? You know what I found, Chris? What you found? Those people are liars. Who are they they say they want to play the game. But every time we do this, they don't call it. There are a lot of people that say they want to play and then say they can take the lights, the lights come on and they're like, and then there's people who know when the game is played, but they keep telling me they forgot. All right, let's get to our first contestant, Jason. Hello, Jason. How are you doing, Jason? Is your other phone ringing? Do you okay? You need to take that call? No, we're good. Yeah, thank you. Okay, you're welcome. Here we go, Jason. Question number one. If you win an Olympic event, what kind of medal do you get? Really? He must have had no time. No, this was Jason. What? Scared me for a second. Yes, the gold medal is correct. Here we go. Question number two. All right, which? Let's see. Actually, I'm going to do one of those player ones. I'm going to give you three players, and you're going to tell me what team they all played for together. It's football. Brett Favre, Percy Harvin, Jared Allen. Brett Favre, what do you say? I think he got it. I think he got it. What do you think? You got it right? Vikings. Oh, I thought you said. Oh, wow. Dang. Good job. Jason, I misunderstood you. All right, here we go. Question number three. We have the finest host in game show. Because I didn't hear what the guy said. That's part of your dad. Alex Trebek never went, huh? What did he say? We don't actually know that though. They edit that show. So there you go. You don't get that luxury, buddy. No, this is live. No editing for you. Here we go, Jason. Question number three. The Padres record for stolen bases in a game is five. Three players have done this, named two of those players. Two. What about you? Ricky Henderson. Okay. And what was the final one? Ozzy Smith. Ozzy Smith. Stay there though. Chris. Yes. Hi, how are you? Project record for stolen bases in a game is five. Three players have done this named the two named two of those players. That's tough. That's tough. I remember one of them a little while ago, but like within the last 10 years, but I can't remember who it was. I'll say Tony Gwyn and Alan Wiggins. You have got to be kidding me. You got to be kidding me. You got it. Yes. I'm sorry. Who was the third? Damien Jackson. Oh, did. Yes. I kind of remember that's the one I kind of remember. Tony Gwyn did. I wasn't going to guess my dad. No, Alan Wiggins did it first. Yeah, I was going to guess Alan for sure, but I didn't. I wasn't going to have my dad. Never dad with five. Five in a game. It's September 20th, 1986. Sorry about that. Yeah. Two. Who was it? Jason. Jason. Thanks for calling Jason. All right, here. Let's go to our next contestant. We're going to go to Andy. Hello, Andy. What's up, guys? How you doing? Hi, Andy. Good to play. You're ready to play. All right. Here we go. He's ready. He's ready. This is a science question. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is between the moon and what else? The sky. Good job. He was very, I was very, that was there's a lot there. I would have answered it the same way. You're pretty safe. I don't really know what else it could have been. I don't know. I don't know. The Milky Way or something. Question number two. What former Marlin outfielder was acquired by the Yankees? Oh, wait. Sorry. Sorry. That's a question. Number one step. All right. Name the baseball movie. These three actors were in. Brad Pitt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright. Name the movie. Those actors are in together. Baseball movie. Brad Pitt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright. I mean, the only Brad Pitt me that I know is my alma mater at Mount Carmel. The money ball. Oh, I was like, you did something. Good job. Nice job. It was money ball. Philip Seymour Hoffman was the manager and Robin Wright was maybe Brad Pitt's wife ex-wife. Don't remember what Robin Wright did, but I do know that Philip Seymour Hoffman as great of an actor as that guy was terrible casting. He does not. He was not believable. Really good actor too. He had the body type. No chance to be hard now. Here we go, Andy. Question number three. You get this right or Chris gets it wrong. You're qualified for Las Vegas. The Padres record for RBI's in a game is eight. Two well-known players did this name both. Two, just two. Eight is the record. Vaughn and Manny. Stay there, Andy. Stay there. All right. I'm going to take a wild stab at this. I really don't know. I remember the Snickers game. So I'm going to go at Ken Kamenini. And I remember the 24 run game in Washington. I'm going to go with Jake. Jake Croninworth. Yeah, those are my two guesses. Nice job, Andy. You are the winner. So stay right there. I'm going to come get you in the break. You did get Ken Kamenini. What was the Snickers game? He was sick, wasn't feeling well, went out and had his Snickers. That's a couple on the MVP award right after that. So basically he started their whole campaign. A hundred percent. Oh, man, he gets no credit for it. All right. The other one, Nate Colbert, in 1978 or 92. No, too much earlier. And it was in the second game of a double header that day. Well, that was the day that Nate Colbert had five home runs and a double header. Well, there you go. That's why he's on the list. I didn't know he had eight RBI's in one of those two games though. Very good. All right, Andy, congratulations. You take down Chris first, the fans today. We'll take a quick time out here. Morgan and Chris is on the way still ahead on the program. A big five is in your future. Also, we have to update you on today's doings. We haven't even mentioned it yet. The Paris Olympic Games. No, we haven't even touched on it yet. Day four. I've really gotten to know rugby pretty good. You think you all right, coming up in the next segment, Tony Gwen explains the rules of rugby. I can't give you the rules. You still can't give us a couple of rules. But I can watch it and tell you what's happening and who's doing well. All right. You know what I was watching earlier? That was great. Fencing. And you know what I'm doing? Fencing is good. It was great. The you were complaining about the referee. Apparently, washes replays. And then sometimes it happens at the same time. So he just he's supposed to make the determination. Sometimes he goes, I don't know. You guys just do it again. If you can't make a determination on who hit first, I don't know. Just do it again. Yeah, it's really crazy. I was like, that's a great cop out for a referee. All right. Well, we'll chuck some traffic before we get into all of it. All right. I want to get you guys' opinion on this. This came up yesterday as we were preparing for the game. Dave Marcus had a had an article of two kids that jumped over the, you know, ran onto the field during a during a big league ball game in Detroit. Okay. There's video today of the set kids. And when I say kids, I don't know the exact ages, but they look like maybe one's preteen preteen, like 12. Yeah. Wow. They're looking at one's maybe a little older. Okay. They took them off in handcuffs. Okay. There are some people upset that the kids were being taken away in handcuffs. Hmm. Okay. What is your opinion on this? I mean, the kids that I get, I'll say they they taken away in handcuffs. I saw the video. Sorry. I was checking something. I think I think it's spot on. You think it's spot on? I think it's spot on because it's kind of like, by the way, the parents were sitting right there. They were sitting in the stands. There you go. Jumped off. If someone would have maybe arrested me as a kid for like fake arrested me, I may have thought of twice about somebody. Yeah. By the way, they were let off in handcuffs. I don't know that they like, I don't think they're actually arrested. But you think it's spot on Chris? What do you think? I would carry the kids off, but I would go up and handcuff the parents. What? I'm kidding. I was going to say, this is, this is the most shocking thing ever. Sorry. I'm exactly doing a great job though. If their kids are running out onto the field, I must throw that in there. I, I often, so I'm going to throw that in there. When these situations happen, usually the, my first thought is, what would my mom have done if I jumped onto the field here in a game? The worst thing that would have happened to you was being humbling in handcuffs by the police. That would have been the best thing that happened. So, as a matter of fact, you might have told the guy in the jail to leave me in there. I told Jesse and Dave both the same thing. I was like, I think that might have been the best part of the day if I did jump on the field. Not to mention, you know, how embarrassing my dad would have probably been if he was in right field. I decided to just run on the field for a joy, joy run during the middle of the game. Wouldn't have been good. Yeah. No, I, I didn't have a problem with a problem with it. And here's why. It's not that I necessarily like the fact that, you know, a possible preteen and a young teen are being hauled off at cuffs. However, if you don't, especially in today's climate, if you, if you just kind of like escorted them off the field, what's to stop the next preteen and 30 year old? Because at that point, that's fun to deal because at that point, there is no real ramifications. You just were ushered off the field. That's the worst thing that can happen to you. It's a scary world right now. We've got stories doing not of six year olds shooting schools up getting their hands on guns. I don't know. And I'm not saying these kids had a gun. What I'm saying is 12, 11 year olds, you don't know what anybody's capable of, you know, you know, unfortunately doing right now. I think you almost have to do something like this, Tony, to try and dissuade others from doing it. I mean, we remember, remember, but also to teach these kids that, you know, we're not just going to let you get away with it because you're 12. Exactly. Because you have to be responsible. We did have a dude literally run onto the field backflip in front of an officer before he was eventually tased and arrested, but and then was proud of it. The next one, but that is, but that is you can't think that that those kids didn't see that. Yeah, they definitely saw that now. Maybe they're not as athletic enough to do a backflip on that on the field after they run on, but I don't know. I saw this. I thought it was interesting because, you know, you don't usually see kids being hauled off. It is a weird video to watch. And there was some, there was some, you know, people who had a problem with it. Well, you know, kids being can tell. I get it, but those kids, those kids. Yeah. Someone, a Dan on the chat said, my dad arrested me when I was six for stealing, put me in a squad card, took me to jail. See this, a bunch of Dan's pretty much on the screen. So too, like that's how that's how our generation was. I've said before, I was putting jail overnight for not paying parking tickets and got pulled over for, you know, running a red light or something months later. And it was called a bench warrant back then. I don't know what all the results are anyway. Benchwords is serious. The police guy basically said, do you have like $1,200 and or you're going to have to go to jail till you get it? And I had to spend the night in jail and that wasn't great. I was maybe 20. And that was enough to get me to think twice about ever stealing a piece of bubblegum again or anything. I didn't enjoy that evening. I got a quick story of it. Not saying everybody should be put in jail, but it has just a fact. Just how different the climate is in general. I remember there was an incident that happened. Young man put his, this is how I was in high school. I think it was a junior in high school. Young man put his hands on, on a cousin of mine. And so think about how stupid it is now. But we got in the car, we rolled to this kid's house. And you know, there was some back and forth. We ended up outside, right? And there's a change that happens in a police pull up, right? And he sees what's kind of going on. He gets out of his car and he goes, all right, this is how we're going to handle this. I got boxing gloves in the back trunk. If you guys want to really do deal with this, we can get the boxing clubs out. You guys can fight. Of course, you know, our side was willing to do it. Other side wasn't. And then it was just it was done. But the fact that the police officer pulled up and was like, listen, we got boxing gloves and bags. This is how you guys can handle it. That would never happen now. It wouldn't know. There's no way. There's no way. I remember one time, a police officer, we were okay. So we did break into the gym. I didn't personally break into the gym. I love the way you started this story before you kind of left that before after you or ever broke up with that poorly. This was before I was 17. Also, you were on a line of just destruction at this point. I was 17 at this point or eight, 17. And one of the other kids was the bad kid. And he was the one who broke into the YMC gym in Encinitas. What were you guys going to do? Play basketball? Well, that's what we did. So someone saw that the basketball court was alive and it's not supposed to be. So the police show up, they come in, we're all having a great time. And they're like everybody against the wall. And they were serious. And they patted us down. This memory just unlocked in my head. They patted us down. They had us cuffed and put us outside with our hands behind our back. And that did teach me lessons. There's enough. I was like, I'm never hanging out with this kid again. He's getting in trouble. I've hung out with him twice and now I'm in cuffs. It's crazy, but it worked. It worked. Those those lessons are useful because they teach you. They do. They really do. Why you don't want to do this again. They hopefully teach you. Yeah, that's true. They don't always. Yeah. Sometimes it, you know, we we don't learn from our mistakes. Yeah, we make bigger ones down the road, but on that too. Most of us are smart enough not to smart enough to get the get the point. Yeah. All right. That's a pretty good one, Tony, though. I didn't realize that 12 year old kids were running on the field. I didn't either. That's a prize, though, at this point, not a surprise at all. Adam on the chat said they that parent tried to attack a referee after a basketball game in 1997. That's pretty bad. There was a parent who tried to attack a referee after a basketball game. And Chris can probably attest to this. That's a whole that's that's also evolved since 1997. I don't even care about Santana was the high school. I don't even care about coaches anymore. It's the parents. It's the parents for sure. It's the crowd. I want to get out of the game alive. And it's not the coaches anymore. I think the coaches almost stick up. They do. They really stick up for us now. I a lot of them. I remember the first meeting I had with, you know, they kind of bring the parents in when the team is level. And that that was one of the first thing that really like got to me like I've listened to the ad talk about how they're running out of referees because A it's not the highest paying job and B it's not worth the kind of beat down you get. And they basically said if it keeps up at the rate is going we're not going to have enough referees. We may not. The thing that worries me the most is that our number one way to deal with unruly parents is to stop the game and have them removed from the gymnasium. Sounds like an easy enough plan. If you got real police officers there. Number one. Number two. Who's to keep people in this day and age from coming back two hours later when the game's over to wait for you. It goes through my mind. I'm pretty unlikely to throw anybody out of a gym because I really don't want to see them later. You think it worries me. The ramifications down the line. Yeah worries me. Can you imagine Kristen is little referee and a little little little. I'm sure if you look at me. I'm a big guy. I'm a big Jersey. It's an XXL. It is always little. What do you say about my leg up this little tee guy? He's got black. He's got black pads on you know. He walks around the corner in that parents waiting for the old school shoeshine. Yes. Yes. The black. Yes. Oh yeah. Joseph on the chat says who is least likely to learn from his mistakes. Scravey Tony or Chris. I think it's me. That's an easy one. But I'm a lot better than I used to be. You are. You are. I'm the guy who used to touch the hot stove over and over just to make sure it was still hot. Trevor here of an umpire went by the Bob Moss. He went by the nickname of Hubba Jabba. Of course I know Hubba Jabba. Hubba Jabba. Show up at the game. It's time to play. Hubba Jabba. He used to do work. He used to come in like when we had an inter squad games. He would umpire games a lot of time. Hubba Jabba. That was good people. He was a good guy. Yeah. Nobody get mad at Hubba Jabba. But they tend to get mad at umpires and referees these days for show. All right. Let's get to break when we come back. The big five is on deck. Morgan and Chris. All right. Welcome back to going to Chris 438. Hope you're enjoying the program today. We don't get too many of four hour get-togethers where we're all in studio during baseball season. So we're making the most of it today. Big five is coming up here in the five o'clock hour. You'll get the latest on the trade deadline. From Matt Snyder, CBS Sports joined us a little earlier. There's been one move in the last hour or so Lane Thomas. Pretty good outfielder for the Washington Nationals no longer a pretty good outfielder for the Washington Nationals. Now he is with the Cleveland Guardians. Dodgers did acquire reliever Michael Kopek today from the White Sox. They also got themselves Tommy Edmond from the Cardinals. That was all part of a three team seven player swap. Tommy fam our old friend goes back to St. Louis. Do we still play the Cardinals this year or are we done with that? We got it for four in August here. No in hot. I was hoping they'd be coming to town. I know the fans probably missed Tommy fan. Won't get a chance to see him here, buddy. They love him. I don't know why they love him so much. Who was the other one I was thinking of that the Padre fans just won't oh well, Hosmer. They'll never let that one go either here. No, they're still the pot until the Padre stopped paying Eric Cosmer. It's when that expires. I always wonder about it. Why does that bother the fans not coming out of there? Because Chris, guess what? They can't sign any other players because they're paying Eric Cosmer. Okay, that's the risk you take when you sign in free agency. Yeah, but I don't thought you'd be retired at this point. Has anybody buy into the theory that without Eric Cosmer, there's never Manny Machado. And without Manny Machado, there's never the rest of these guys that have followed. We've tried anybody buy that or is no good. I don't think Manny even looks this way. If someone before him has a great there you go. So next time you hate Hosmer, don't forget to think of that. All right, let's check traffic. Speaking of traffic. The Bay Area. Driving yesterday from Santa Cruz to San Jose. He wasn't feeling that, huh? An hour and 45 minutes ago, 25 to 30 miles on a Sunday afternoon. Sounds like my way home from work. Not happy at all. Yesterday up there. And then I went by your football stadium. Yeah. Oh, he sent me a picture and he told me a zoom in on something which scares me because I don't know what he's trying to get me to look at, but have a picture of me with the thumbs down in front of Levi's stadium yesterday. Oh, he does have thumbs down. Yeah, I didn't even realize that my wife wanted to see the stadium. It's very close to the San Jose airport. So we went by. He said venturing into enemy territory, the home of the real evil empire. I will take this. That's where I was yesterday. I took it to one day. That's where I was. All right, let's do traffic and then the big five. It's that time of the show when we check on the latest in sports. Only the most important topics and questions are brought to light. Stop what you're doing and listen. These news stories will astound and amaze you. The one. The only. Oh my god. Who the hell cares. The big five starts now on 97 three, the fan. All right. The big five. I'm looking to see you. Oh, there's my read baseball coverage on 97 three. The fans presented by T mobile switch to T mobile and you can get tons of benefits and still save on every plan versus AT&T and Verizon use their savings calculator to find out how AT mobile.com slash switch. So we have a lot to cover. Chris, we still have not actually got your thoughts on to a Tango Valoa. So we're going to have to put that show him the money. Can't believe they spent all that money. I mean, what are they going to do now? We'll get to that in a little bit. It's not part of the big five, but we need to get your thoughts on it. Let's get started with Manny Machado. Something I found interesting about him over the weekend and the Padres trip to Baltimore where the booze Manny heard from Orioles fans. We all know Manny started his career with the Orioles and spent seven seasons with the Orioles before leaving Baltimore. And Manny brushed it off saying the Orioles are good now and fans just don't want to see him wreak havoc, which he did. So Chris, why would Orioles fans boo Manny? Because Manny's good. It's the only answer. But he's like, well, he's he's he's stunk. They wouldn't care. No, I get it, but he but that's why you ask trying to think someone being trade away from here. Who would would we boo them coming back? Like like a, like a, like a, no, everybody. No, not everybody. I'm trying to. Most fan bases boo star athletes once they go play else, but his history with Orioles, even though they don't trade themselves. Yeah, I mean, I just think that Chris is right. I mean, they typically boo. Unless you've had a long like career there. It's really the only way you're exempt from being boo. Example, Nolan Aronado. Or if you won there. Okay. Nolan Aronado went from the Rockies to the Cardinals. He didn't get booed that I remember by the Rockies fans. He wanted out of his team. That's the example I was thinking like someone like that. I think I got pretty, I think I got booed. I'm pretty straight. Got booed. Because he's he wanted to trade it. He wanted to be traded after he re-upped the big deal. That's true. That example was again, that would be trade. Manny, they, the Baltimore Orioles knew they were rebuilding and Manny, they weren't going to re-sign Manny. So they traded him. And so maybe people feel like Manny, I think people just like to boo anyway, especially when you're good. It's just, it's just easier. I did like the fact that our guy, Steven Woods, quote tweeted somebody who tweeted out before the series started, something along the lines of Manny Machado's coming back to town. We'll get a chance to see how much better, what's the shortstop's name? Gunner, Gunner, Gunner Henderson is. And then Gunner just went out and had like seven errors. Gunner Henderson, I mean, honestly, what happened to this guy? He did not look right. Not good at all. Oh, here's a great, but in your specification, he did win a title. Did Zander Bograt get booed when they went back to Boston? No, he also wasn't playing at the time. Hey, but he came out. They literally had like a jumbo tron. Like, oh, and they all gave him like a sandwich. Yeah. So so that's the kind of thing I thought Manny would have. If you win at a place and you've had or you've had a long career in like last couple of years, you went somewhere else, you generally will be shown a lot of love. But if you're on the way up, a budding superstar and you leave, yeah, for sure, you're going to get booed the next place. Okay, sure. The tweet, Woodsy tweeted was from Dan Clark, which Dan Clark is a internet troll. Backfired on him. His trolling. Well, he's the guy who said that he would get a tattoo. I don't remember the exact thing, but if the, if the Padres beat the Dodgers in 2022 in the playoffs, then he would get a Manny Machado tattoo and they did and he hasn't done it yet. Of course not. All right. The Green Man Packers have made Jordan love a very rich man, and he is now tied with two others for the number one highest paid spot in the league, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love are all making $55 million this season. And many are asking, how did Jordan Love get this deal? Tony, do you think Jordan Love deserves this contract? No, but I think we've discussed this in the NFL. It's not about the deserving part. It's about the timing part. And remember, they moved on from Aaron Rodgers for him. So clearly Green Bay feels pretty highly about him. And the timing was right. Whoever signed the last deal, there was no, he was the next man up. His number has to exceed that. What's to his new number? Because that surprised me. No, I think it came out right after to his deal. What do you see? It was pretty much the same time. Yeah, it was almost the same time. Jordan loves better than to, I, he just doesn't understand, doesn't like it. No, I get it. I mean, to was making $53.1 million. It's so much money, but this is what they give. Yeah, there you go. This is what they all get now. I guarantee you, even though those deals were reported around the same time, there was word that Love reached some point or opposite and Love had to get on top. One, two. Sorry, Chris, go ahead. That's fine. Look, Patrick Mahomes is putting all of this into somewhat proper perspective. The problem is, there's very few people that think the way that Patrick Mahomes says. No, they don't. And this is why he's going to keep winning Super Bowls and they're not. This is what I like him too. But his comment was, when they asked him, what do you, you know, don't you deserve more money than these guys, he said, I'm not underpaid. No, I love the way he asks. I love the way he answered it. He didn't say that he wasn't deserving of more money. He just said, I'm not underpaid. I don't have anything to worry about. Shut up and play ball. You don't have anything to worry about. You're all making an absurd amount of money. And when it's your turn, you'll get paid. And you didn't ask me about two of them, but I'll answer it anyway. This is proof that you'll get paid, because what is to a dump to deserve that? I think it's zero part of the times. Well, like you said, this is the going rate for a quarterback now. Right. This is the going rate. So that's what he's done to deserve it. That's it. All right, back to many, which I'll go real quick on Dominic was at the game on Saturday, saying that he was there an hour before the game taking pictures and signing autographs for a lot of Orioles fans and Padres fans back. Everybody wants to know what Brock Purdy is going to get. And I've heard $65 million a year. Brock Purdy, if they don't signed Brandon, I you can't get nowhere near that. Brandon, I think it's going to play. I didn't say he wasn't going to play. They don't sign him. And he has to depart. And he won't be throwing to the same offense anymore. A couple of weeks ago, I missed this, but there was a cryptic Instagram post by one of the players on the 49ers that said he thinks it's all he thinks he's the only one who did anything. And you just assume they're talking about three. It has to be has to be. Oh, you're funny. We're talking about Brock Purdy. We don't need to, because he's. No, I said, what if he's talking about Brock Purdy? He's not. How do you know? Because Brock Purdy is a sweetheart of. Oh, he is one of the nicest people in the world. They're all sweetheart. He tries to go in and start negotiating for them. Brock Purdy would fire his agent. Oh, the moral ground. 20 sounds good. Let's just call it even. Yeah, we're good. I'm not underpaid. 20 is good. One of the trades made over the weekend was the Marlin sending jazz, to some junior to New York and the Yankees are possibly eyeing a position change for him. Jazz says he's open to playing third base for the Yankees, adding that he, quote, could go and play anywhere and help my team win. Garrett Crochet should take a little note out of his book. Glaiver Torres, on the other hand, did not sound as receptive to moving to the hot quarter. He said he's a second baseman. He doesn't want to do it with a looming surplus of outfielders on the roster. It looks like jazz is going to play third base for the Yankees. Chris, do you think he becomes a everyday third baseman? So jazz chism? Yes. I'll say no, just for fun. Okay. I don't really, I don't know how good of an infielder he really is. I don't know how great he was at second base before he moved to the outfield. Sure. And so I say in New York, if he, you know, kicks three or four balls, they'll have him back in the outfield before long. Tony? It's a good question. They will he be the everyday third base, but I don't know. I think it depends on how well he takes to the position. He's never played it before. But I have this sneaky suspicion that jazz is made for this day like this. So you think she's, I think this will bring the best out of him. I mean, just watching him yesterday and seem like, you know, I'll run today. Did he hope? Yeah. I'll tell you, I think he's kind of made, he almost needs the structure of a, of a New York Yankee team. You know, it's a free fraud. It seems like in, in Miami, especially considering the managers not coming back. It don't look like like, I imagine it's tough in that environment right now. And I think this is, this might be good for me. It just seemed like he was really excited to be a Yankee. And that's not the case for everybody. He doesn't have a beard. So he doesn't have anything to worry about. No, he's he looks like he can't grow any facial. It's good for him. Number two, guardian caps. Do you guys know about these things that the NFL players? Yes. They're going to, they can use them in the game. Well, they work during practice. And that means that they're going to work during games. The NFL reverse course this year, and it's prior rule that players can't wear them beyond the practice field. But one player who's actually thinking about wearing a guardian cap is Seahawks quarterback, Gino Smith. He said, well, I've been thinking about wearing mine. I'm still debating on if I should wear my guardian cap. I don't know yet. But obviously I hit a lot of people with my head. So I have to be careful out there. What? I know that shouldn't be hitting lobby. Would you know your quarterback? You're the most protected player on the field, even though they look a little funny. And even with the covering that simulates the look of a helmet shell, they can make the game safer for all players. Tony, how long until this is standard? It's a great that's a good. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm not sure. It's it's a. I mean, the answer is clear that it's a safer deal. But in the same way it took baseball players a while before they started wearing that S cap coming down their face. Oh, yeah, the job like nobody wanted to wear that. Yeah, that's true. Because it was it looked terrible. Let's be honest. In the same way, the bulky hat looked terrible. That looks so terrible. That guy's just said, no, I'm not going to wear it. I don't care if it's a picture concussion. Yeah, they just said no. So I think it'll I think of I don't know if I think eventually players will keep getting softer and softer on this until the majority of them wear it. If I'm a running back this, I'm definitely wearing this bad boy like running backs, linebackers anytime any of those positions that you're having full on car crashes every play. Apparently, Gino Smith, Gino wants one too. Chris, what do you think? How long until this is standard? I'm going to go in the opposite direction. I'm going to say that no helmets or leather helmets. No, I don't think it catches on. I don't think there's no logo on those things. I don't think these guys know they do. They do. The Chargers debuted one over the weekend where it looked like their helmet. So it's like going over the helmet and had the same sort of scenes with the logo. They do. Yeah. Okay. That might get me to come along with it. But I think guys have to look cool. They tell you something about it, man. I'm telling you. There's still something about that. Football is a pretty macho game no matter how many times you get hit. So I'll go the other way and say they don't catch on, but Tony's probably closer to right. All right. That's it. You made it through. I really don't need a number one. Yeah. I don't really have one to be honest. Nice job. But I do have some news on the other side. It looks like you see Kikuchi may be dealt here shortly. I'll tell you why and where. I don't like it. I don't like where you're going. No, you like it. Your tone is not good. No, you like it. You like it. You like it. Hey, Mikey. Do you like it? You'll try everything. All right. That's next to 97. Into the happy hour. We go. Tony Gwen Jr. Chris Sello, Matt Scravey, Matthew Scravey. Get to your news. Oh, my news. Okay. Do I need the breaking news sounder as well this time again. This is breaking news from 97.3. MLB Network, John Heyman, Jim Bowden, all reporting. That's left handed pitcher, UC Kikuchi is reportedly heading to the Houston Astros. Dang. And the reason I said it would be a good thing is because he's done the nationally. Yeah, but the bad part is the Padres didn't get him. And he was apparently the Padres were in on Kikuchi, at least from some of the reports. So starting pitch. Do we know what the price tag was? Not yet. Not saying anything like that. But there's another Jake Bloss is going to be a part of the trade. He's going to I'm not sure who Jake Bloss is, but that's they didn't they didn't really tweet that clear. Anyway. All right. Do you want to? Did you get to do your number one? Okay. So here's my number one. Yeah. Go ahead. You want to get the music popping again? Sure. And what was my man's name again? I'm about to look. Oh, Jake Bloss. B-L-O-S-S. Okay. So one of the nicest things happens the other day. And that would be at instantaneous ranch golf course. I apparently had a golf or a gift card. I didn't know I had a gift card. And so someone who was working at instantaneous ranch, I guess, was cleaning up around the clubhouse and everything. And they came across this gift card with my name on it. And this person also is a friend of woodsy and Fred a crag. So that he got my number. He texted me, said, Hey, I got this gift card if you want it. And I said, Oh, it's awesome. I want to come say hi and I want to come get it. And so I did that yesterday. Guys, I walked up to the front desk and I asked for Parker. Everybody's like, Who's Parker? I don't know. We don't know any Parker. And I'm like, Wait, is it my at the wrong golf course? No, I just called the guy the wrong name. His name was actually Foster, but it's I called him Parker. So I'm crawling out of my skin in there for calling him the wrong name. My question to you guys, Chris, how do you get out of something like that? Well, you start off by asking for my man. Good point. Good point. But I needed to identify who I was looking for. Yeah, you do. I've run into so many people now whose name is my man. It's not even funny. Thank you, Tony Gwen Jr. for helping me out. You know, it's funny is my man. How that when I was in Milwaukee, you know, as you're getting to know everybody in the organization, I used to ask Prince also, Hey, man, what's what's my man's name right? You know, you try to catch him. I said, I don't know. I just say, what's up, man? All right, what's up, bro? Princeton. No, Princeton. No. Oh, that's hilarious. I think the best way you handle it. If you can't use my man knows him. Yeah, he couldn't really just own it. You just own it. Like, Hey, man, you know what? I'm not 100% sure. I got your name right. Yeah. Well, the problem is he texted me his name. He texted you his name and said I got this for you. He was doing a nice thing for you. Spelling and everything in the text. Yeah. Yeah. And so, and I actually looked at the text before I left my car to go pick it up. So you had the answers to the test. I had the answer to the test, but I walked up and I said, can I see part or is Parker here and everybody looked at me and his name was Foster. Did anybody. Did you ask? Did you ask? Were you asking Foster if Parker was there? Yes, I was. He goes, wait, do you mean, do you mean, it's crazy? And I was like, yes, yes, did you. So did you thought? Do you think you read Parker? Yes. I don't know where I got Parker from, but I read Parker for some reason. And I, because I looked at the text to make sure I knew the name and apparently I didn't know the name and I walked up and I said, I was crawling out of my skin. I was crawling out of my skin too, but he was very nice about it. And he loves the the station. Foster. Don't be nice next time. Yes. Don't be nice. Foster. You should find a gift card back. Give him the gift card anymore. I gave you my name and you can't remember. You don't have the, wow, maybe doing different of these things today than you have in your whole career. Yeah. Yeah. You, you live up with this poor girl. You're never going to forget that, man. Then you drove all the way to California. Yeah, I know. I still, I'm feeling wild. It's feeling worse and worse as we get farther away from my admission of that. Right. Next thing I know, you're going to do this next thing I'm going to bring up. Oh, Dan just said, that's for ditching your old girlfriend screaming. See? Exactly. I ran into something this weekend, guys, that I couldn't wait to bring on to the show. Oh. And this is, this is not my wife's fault. Uh oh. But this is something that could only happen with my wife in charge. Uh oh. And, oh, she knows on this one. Okay. You guys are going to agree with me and I think pretty much everyone out there will agree with me on this one. And I don't always often say that because I usually don't think along with people. But in this category, I think I do. Uh my wife made us reservations for dinner Saturday night when we were staying in Big Sur. It is a wonderful, beautiful spot along the coastline there in south of San San Francisco. The big, the big northern tourist board is that paying crisp by the every time they can pay me for that. But they're not going to pay me for this next. Wow. So she made dinner reservations. And the four of us, another couple we had met there, all went to dinner. Wait, you met a couple that you didn't know? No, we knew. Sorry. We knew the couple friends of Lori and mine. And so is the four of us. We all go to dinner. And looking at the menu, Tony, and I'm getting a little bit, a little bit upset, but not too bad. Because the prices are a little, a little beyond what I'm comfortable with. Okay. I'm talking 50, 60 dollars per entree. And I'm just not really all about that. Your skin's moving a little bit. Yeah. Not the end of the world. And I knew my wife. Sounds like the end of the world. It is a world. Yeah. But you know, I understand it's a special occasion, special occasion, big night out. It was the other couple's 10th anniversary. We told them, Hey, it's their 10th anniversary. Oh, happy anniversary, et cetera. Well, here's the menu and it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. But guys, and everybody out there, tell me you won't, you don't want to just lose it completely when your 60 dollar meal arrives. And it is two cubes of lamb with a ton of sauce and some flowery. I almost said my goodness. Sorry. Some flour is the closest we've ever talked. I know. I know. Some flowery stuff, some sauce, one artichoke, and I'm not kidding you, Tony, two cubes of lamb for like 70 dollars. And me and the other guy are just looking at each other like, we, how do we, I mean, I didn't want to embarrass my wife. Number one. So I really, we never said anything. But when we got in the car on the way home, it was back to the hotel. It was just, you know, we let loose. Wait, wait, who did you go first? All of us did. Even my, even my wife knew. She goes, I know you're mad. Like she's like, I don't know what to tell you. I know you got to be mad. I mean, we didn't have any dinner. We didn't have dinner. We did not get dinner. Yeah. I mean, this is ridiculous. You cannot charge that kind of money and then not bring any food out. I don't care. I don't care cubes in an artichoke, man. No, not an artichoke. Artichokes is big. It wasn't, I saw, I'm sorry, an asparagon, an asparagon, like one, an asparagon. So weak, so weak. And I said, this has got to be one of my number one pet piece ever. There was a time where things like that, like didn't bother me, but as an older, I've gotten the more that's crazy. It gets under my skin. I like food anyway. Like I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, yeah, come on. Can't do that. Yeah. So we're, so we, I, I, we got back to the, uh, the, the room there in the four of us all called up the Yelp feature to see what the previous reviews were on this place that we had gone. Uh oh. Not one person wrote anywhere in their Yelp review that the portions are ridiculously small. And we were trying to understand this. How could, you know, anybody go there without that being the first report that, you know, there's no food. I get it. And we couldn't really figure it out other than the fact that some people are just maybe that pretentious and they think that that is really kind of cool. If you get no food, I, I don't know. Well, there are food out there that think it's all about presentation and yeah, well, things like that. Well, here's, here's, nobody would have heard that for 60 bucks. I don't care how I was presented. I want my portions. You want to have some food. I'm sorry. I'll pay $60 for the lamb cubes. Were the lamb cubes good, at least? I don't know. They really tasted them. He was so irritating. So irritating. It was like one, two. Now what do I do? You eat the Aspira guy. He was just, he was having woods like chew in it. It was dissolving. What if you ordered like a salad and they gave you like three leaves of lettuce? Look, all the portions were small. Were they? Yeah. They were all small. I had a sinking sneaky suspicion that by the time we got to the lamb that you knew it was going to be good. But my wife's line of, you know, I know you're mad was the best line of the night. She knew that that probably had to be a little mad because look, this is some of her money that was paying for it as well. Yeah, sure. We share our money and our family. So I don't know what everybody else does with their money, but it's one, one pool of money. So she knew that we were paying way too much for what we got. And but I didn't understand. Laurie's not the type to, to be cool with that. So it was bad, bad, bad, bad. And you know, when I brought up the 10-year anniversary, if you go to Denny's and you tell them, Hey, it's my 10-year anniversary, they'll bring you out a stale scone with a, with a, with a candle in it and go, Hey, happy anniversary. There you go or something. So I got to tell you, these guys brought nothing to these people. And I was like, really? If that was, we just paid $800 for dinner and you couldn't even spare like a half a dessert. I got to tell you, who's bad? If that were my family, it would have been me who made the reservation and boy, oh boy, how that whole thing would have turned out. Would the kids have not been? No, let's just put the kids aside. Let's just say it's Elise and I. All right. I would have been my, my wife would never make a reservation on the spot like that. It would have been me. Okay. And when those portions came out, the appetizing portions came out. It would have been game over. I would have never heard the end. Would they have heard of anything? Oh, they would have, they would have caught some, they would have caught some stray too. Would they catch a little stray? But once I got the call, they should catch a stray seriously. Somebody should look at the person and go, this is not right. I just gave you all this money. You've got to give me more than two cubes of land. Come on. Here's the rest of it. Look at that. What's going on? I think you were also in a very, very wealthy area. I was. I got that. And that's why I got the pricing. Did you go to, I got the pricing. This is my question because I've had this happen before where there's two cubes of steak or something and then I'm starving after and you just go hit it McDonald's or something. Oh, yeah. Did you get anything? We went back and the, the place we staying, we're staying had free s'mores. Oh, they gave you, there was a nice barbecue pit and they gave you all the stuff for s'mores. I had like 11 s'mores before I went to bed. Hey, I'm already in too deep with this dinner. We're going to do these free s'mores. Sorry. We are not going out to get deserted. We can't afford. I don't care if it is McDonald's. I can't afford that. We're going to get the s'mores. You, you were like George, you were like George and Claire Kittle doing the s'mores from receiver. Well, yes, you were in the same spot. George, I would George Kittle, I can't imagine he would let that fly. Probably not. Anyway, they don't look like the type they would be going to know such an epity place. I'm not a fufu guy. You know that. Every now and again, my wife tries to turn us into fufu people and it's fun to work out. It's okay. It's funny. Like experimented it every once in a while. It's okay. Just give me some fun. I should have gone to, I think it's all I say. I think it's called the French Laundry up in Napa and the long, maybe it's the laundry. It's a very famous restaurant. Okay. I think, yeah. Anyway, they have like a 20 course thing that you sit down for. So you would just keep getting these cubes coming over by the end of it. But you're also paying like a thousand bucks to sit down there. They better have all the cubes you can eat at for a thousand. Yeah, they better have all the cubes. Yeah, it's called the French Laundry in its Napa. My wife does this again, though. We are going to, you can eat Chinese buffet and picture next time. Ooh, which I don't think exists, but we're going to look for it. Let's get to break. We're going to Chris out of the other side. If I can tear the guys away from the rough raw rough water kayaking competition, it's riveting. We're going to go in and Chris, Chris, Tony going junior, Mr. Scrabby. Yeah, we haven't really touched on the Olympics much. 520 is a time. One of the things that I'm not a big fan of about the Olympics is the fact that I work here. So by the time I get home tonight, I'm pretty much know everything and every result. I've already ruined the result. Rico was going to try to here we go down my throat this evening. He did an awful job. I heard on the opening ceremonies, and I was happy to hear that. Oh, it was a disaster because Peyton Manning was a part of it. And so was Kelly Clarkson. Was they were they problematic? It just was. It just wasn't a good fit. I can't imagine Mike Toreko ever wanting to turn the microphone over to either of them. Now everybody knows that Chris is a major Mike Toreko hater. Yeah. All right, let's give you a little Olympic update. United States has three gold medals so far. Can you name the way? Can you name the events Scrabby? You said you've been watching the Olympics. Name the three events that we have of gold medals and so core metals. Yeah. You got one butterfly in it. But fly very good. Tori Husky. Yeah. For a second, right? She got 100 meter butterfly swimming gold medal. Tori did good for her. Anybody else? Skateboarding? No. We have another one in swimming. Yes. Four by 100 freestyle men. They took home gold. And this is one I would never expect the United States to win a gold medal in. I thought this was always a European gold medal. But congratulations, a league key for Oh, yeah. There are the fencing women's individual foil competition. Loved it when I was watching earlier. Did you watch that? I didn't watch that exact match. All right. So you guys are watching kayaking right now. What's the event that you will no longer watch starting a week and a half from now until four more years, kayaking kayaking. I like gymnastics. What's the last time you watch gymnastics? I've been watching table tennis over here. Table tennis. Just almost all of it, really. There's a lot of crazy sports that you just don't know about. Like, is trampolining still sport? I want to see the first break dancing. When is the breaking? Isn't it? Is it this Olympics or is it the next Olympics? No, it's this Olympics. This one, we got a team. We're good. We got a team, baby. Men's gymnastics, speaking of gymnastics. Can I can I can I give the cool little note about them? Sure. First time men's gymnastics have metal since 2008, bronze medal. I was going to actually say that but you stole it. They got the bronze medal. Japan won it. China was second US bronze. First time, as Scrabby said, in 16 years, good for them. Simone Biles, who has been starring for the American women in gymnastics, tweaked or left calf. Didn't matter. Didn't matter. She will be competing tomorrow night in the women's team finals. I've seen a couple of her routines already bordering on perfection. Yep. Here's one for you, Scrabby. Ex-Lakosta Canyon. Hi, Chase. Chase Buttinger. I was watching this. wins his Olympic beach volleyball debut today. He and his partner Miles Evans took out a France duo. Straight sets victory, said Buttinger. I really tried to use my basketball experience of playing in front of a big crowd, be composed, but it definitely was not like that. He was very nervous, he said. It's just too on with the USA outfit. It took him six years. It's not a court. Sad. Good for Chase. He's a head of add. Gets a victory in his first match. He's not close to the metal competition quite yet. When does track kick off? That's what I want to know. That's always the second week, Tony. You got to do a whole week of rigmarole before you get the track and field. The men's basketball. I was going to get to them. Another good dot to watch the build up to this. They got a bunch of the sprinters and Netflix. Oh, they do. Getting ready for the Olympics. That's pretty sweet. That's good, huh? Watch the Cup of Episodes. United States women's Olympic volleyball team with a gold medal last time around off to a bad start this time around. They lose to China in the first match. Five set victory for China over the American women in volleyball. And the other one I wanted to get to. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, the great tennis rivalry. They wound up meeting in the second round of the Olympic tournament today. Djokovic with a comfortable win 6-1-6-4. These guys are now 37 and 38 years old. And still, you know, playing at this kind of level. Djokovic, if they never play again, will win the all-time series record now. He's ahead in Nadal 31-29. That's unfortunate. Yeah, I like Nadal better. Djokovic also finished with a winning record against Roger Federer. That's also unfortunate. 27 and 23 Tony does not like. So that means the best number, right? He doesn't even recognize it. He's a villain. He just play your role bones. All right, they boo you because you're great. I wasn't boo. That was a boo name. He felt like it was boo. He felt like it was boo. What else? Women's basketball with a victory. And the opener opener was in Japan. Yep. 112 to 84. I think was the final there. Brianna Stewart and Asia Wilson dominated in this match up. They made 21 out of 31 shots combined. Most of that in the paint, Tony. I like to see some domination in the paint. Yeah. When you've got it, exploit it. Use it. By the way, I did not watch this game because Caitlyn Clark wasn't in it. Do you see what Don Staley said? I did. What she said. She said Chris, I don't give a crap. No, she said that if they had it to do over again. Oh, she put it on there. She would have liked that. They would have reconsidered. I say why say this. You're just conscious. Because she was asked about it. Tony, good answer. Yes. That's a good enough answer. If she was asked about it, she was like, no comment. You would come in here and be like, why wouldn't you? Why would you tell me? Well, good for your point. You know what I think they did. It's so much better when you're just honest about that kind of stuff. Just be honest. How easy can Kelsey Plumb 11 points off the bench. Do it, Kelsey. For the Americans today. Men's team one, it's opener. I think it was yesterday. They'll play again tomorrow against South Sudan. The team that scared them in the preliminary matchup. I got the bet. Anybody wants a bet that they blow them out this time. Well, you got to give me 29 and a half. The spread last time was 43 and a half. So they cut it down. Come down a little bit. I hope so. Yeah. 102 to 76, by the way, was the basketball score over Japan. All right. So you're kind of up to date there. On some of the Olympics stuff. I have not yet watched the Olympics because where I was this weekend, there was no television and no lamb. I got to watch. There's cubes. There's cubes. I got to watch some rugby. We got into Baltimore. Okay. Early. Early enough. And Jesse and I went to a Irish pub. And it just that was just on. And it just happened to have some rugby. And unfortunately, the United States were getting handed to them. And rugby. Yeah. I think it was Australia that was given in the business. Probably our best footballers are playing football. I tell you what, not rugby. It's a crazy game. First of all, it's a crazy game. And you got to have crazy stamina. Because remember, you're being tackled. People are chasing you. You're your offense defense. Yeah. And there's and it's really no stopping. It's just up and down. I just find that it was. It's the ultimate three yards in a cloud. Yeah. We went to the match. You weren't here. You weren't here last week. I was talking about Tony two Fridays ago when I held the flag. That was a rugby thing. And there was 33,000 people that flag was carrying you on the flag was carrying me down to the field. There was 33,000 people down to snap drag and to see rugby. So there's obviously some fans around here somewhere. They loved it. It was interesting. I enjoyed it. But you told me you still aren't quite 100% sure the rules. I don't know. I just know that they work side to side. And you got it when you pitch it, you got to be behind. You can't be in front. You can kick the ball forward, but that's the only way you can move it forward. Exactly. But what I don't get about rugby, maybe somebody can clear it up in the chat when they have a scrum and they roll the ball in the middle into the scrum. What are they doing? Had the same question. I know the ball comes out and then they start passing it around. Like they put it. What is the whole point of that? I had the same thought. Like a face off, maybe? I don't know. It's not a face off because my question is when they start to scrum. My man is at the bottom of the pal. He's got he's got the ball out. Can anybody just grab it? Can the other team grab it? Because it never seemed like the other team stole it at any point. It seems like they roll it in there and the team whose ball it was just get it. Right. So why did they even do that in the first place? That's what I have a question. Somebody help me with that. I knows when you score, you got to like touch the ball. Touchdown is actually a touchdown. You got to touch it down. The ball has to hit the ground, but try to. It is called a try. Try. But they should call it a touchdown because you have to touch down. That's great. I do love that. I mean, I do love that. That's a great point. Yeah. We have another trade. Let's get it on the other side involves the Dodgers. All right. I can wait. Maybe you're coming back with that news and then Matt Snyder after that. One of the best parts about the Olympics is that we get more Snoop Dogg. And so if you get a chance to hear his commentating on bad midnight, I really where do I find that you find it on Instagram? It is NBC. Snoop Dogg is the bad mitten guy. He's broadcasting some bad mitten. It is it is. I gotta listen. I would watch bad mitten maybe even without Snoop Dogg. Exactly. Exactly. Now you get a little Snoop Dogg commentary on it is. It is one of the kind. How many times does Snoop Dogg said shuttlecock? He hasn't said one time. Really? I didn't hear him saying that. And that is the official term for the little thing that they have. I consider that a missed opportunity to Snoop Dogg. I do too. I mean, it's right there. It rates itself for you. Seems like it. Speaking of that, I shared the picture I got in Cleveland, didn't I? Would you guys have some of the old school broadcasts? Oh, yes, yes, yes. The cobbledy. That's old cobbledy. Yes, that's right. All right. What's the Dodger trade that don't have access to the Internet that may want to know what it is? It's not breaking news or anything. Yeah, let's let's give a little bit of this first. Ahmed Rosario is back to the Dodger. Well, that's not much. Where do you come from? Tampa Bay. Who'd they trade? Hey, it just nobody ever cares. Nobody ever cares. See, that's when I that's my whole point of the whole thing. Yeah. Nobody ever cares about any of these guys, except if it's the Padres, then oh my God, we've given away the farm. Yeah, but the Dodgers can trade anybody. Nobody cares. So I just point that out to people. That's that's a great point. The Dodgers do trade. They trade away prospects almost every year. Yeah. And like some of them have to show up eventually and do something I would think maybe not. Maybe I can't think it's like the one I can think of. Keybert Ruiz is the one I can think of. We know him pretty well now. Yeah. Yeah. Not too many. The Dodgers are a good example of that prospects are just that until they're proven at the because I honestly can't remember any of the prospects that they've traded that outside of Josiah Gray. And he's injured. Is he not? He isn't right now. There's hardly much that he can do. I can't think of very many that have like turned out to be dudes. Yeah, son. Keep making those trades. Trade deadline is at what? One or three o'clock tomorrow. Three o'clock tomorrow. We'll have Tony will be with us from the stadium. Of course. Potters have a game. But we'll also have in studio with us because neither scraping or I are experts. We'll have an expert on duty though. Yes. Our guy Kyle Glaser. Yeah. Primarily baseball America. Well connected baseball guy. He actually will help us break down whatever trades happen tomorrow and whatever rumors are still left. He actually tweeted over the weekend about the Padres trade. The let's go. Yeah, say that. Important context for understanding this trade. Padres officials have been very concerned about how much less goes command. Not only hasn't come back post Tommy John, but it's getting worse. His stuff is fantastic. Command is extremely poor right now. Rays are going to try to fix them. Did he not put less goes record in there? He did in another one. He's one in nine with a 646 ERA high for high a Fort Wayne this year. Yeah, 69. He's got 52 walks and 12 hit batter. He's coming off of that as he as as as Kyle mentioned. He's coming off of Tommy John and typically guys who come off Tommy John command is like the last thing that shows up. However, there is concern that his command hasn't improved. It's it's only gotten worse. 52 walks, 12 hit batters and how many innings? 69 and a third. That's one printing practically. That's that's that's uh tradable. Man, is he like the Braves prospect? Your guy who had like 38. Why leave my guy alone? He's just learning. You know, you can laugh at that guy. Scrabby. But the minute he gets called up to the big leagues, you're going to be putting them on your roster. He is. He can make it. The funny thing is he won't even know it's him until after some research. You're probably right. This is the guy who who I was making fun of all that time. I love this guy. You probably right. Scrabby really feels like these players, by the way, are his. Like if Scrabby saw Bobby Whit Jr. in a restaurant, Scrabby would go over and just start talking to him as if he was his employee. Listen, bro. This is what we need to hear. This is how all you fantasy people need to understand. I do not contact the athlete. Well, this is how all you fantasy people. And I'm a fantasy person too. But I think I at least kind. There's a lot. Yeah. This. This is how all of you people need to realize fantasy is in his respect. Brett Rooker's response is like a plus a plus for sure. Whoever the guy was, he said, you sold me yesterday exclamation mark, one leg away from 21 K and you could only hit singles. So the guy bet on him somewhere. He didn't hit a home run and he didn't hit a home run. He was one a one leg away from 21. He had all that money, but he didn't get it. So Brent Rooker wrote back. My brother. I cannot even begin to express how much I do not care. That is really good. That is just golden. That's the answer for all of us fantasy players. Absolutely. They don't care at all. Let's check traffic and then get to our interview of the day. Matt Snyder from the 97 3 the fan traffic center. Here's Kelly Dannick double trouble for South 805 travelers got this crash right from the king free with those vehicles in the center to buy then up ahead right at the 54 connector ramp. We have reports of an accident involving a couple vehicles also going to find on the southbound 15 right around Ocean view an accident involving several vehicles, including a box truck. Everything is in the center to buy vehicle fire southbound side of the 125 before Grossmont College. It's not on fire, but it's a bit hard is smoking, but it's the right shoulder. So just watch out for the left to be there. We've also got this collision on the 7163 in the clearing stage right before the five car motorcycle of the right shoulder and Kelly Dannick. We have acquired a visit with Matt Snyder from CBS Sports. How are you today, Matt? What's going on? Anything? Very good. I mean, a lot of talk like the three way trade that sent Betty to the Cardinals with something, but it seems like everybody's waiting to see if the White Sox are going to deal crochet. If they're going to deal Luis Robert, if the Tigers are going to deal to reach Google, we know that the Tigers scratch Jack Flaherty from his start tonight, but that could just be a hey, in case he's traded, you know, you don't want to risk an injury right when you're about to trade someone. So it doesn't necessarily mean that he's gone, but it's a signal that they're trying to deal him. You know, other than the Rays, we haven't really started to move the big names yet. It seems like the Rays are still going to trade Yandy Diaz as well. A lot to be sorted out here, Matt, because there are so many teams still smack dab in the thick of it. And what's your read? The Padres end up moving three of their top 12 prospects. They get Jason Adam. And it seemed by just at first glance, Chris and I were talking about this. It seemed like a steep price tag. What was your read on it? It might be. Yeah, but you know, it's I think we can all see it's pretty evident. This is a win now team and we're not as worried about the future here. And you know, the miners right now are not in that good shape. If you talk to any level of evaluators and they would say like a top 50 prospects right now is about as good as the top 200 prospect 10, 15 years ago, like the miners, it's just not as good. So it might sound a little steeper than it actually is. And we know from years and years and years of doing this, sometimes one of the guys you trade away becomes a stud. I mean, I think San Diego would be familiar with the James Shields trade that brought for me who taught teach junior, but a lot of other times none of these players paying out. So it's it's hit or miss here. The team that gets the already the big leaguer usually wins out in these deals. But I asked that question not necessarily about the Padres and whether they there was a good deal for them. I was really asking in the context of, man, if if that's what it costs for a high-end reliever, what is the price tag going to be for some of these starters that it seems like all the teams are coveting at this point? Yeah, sorry, I didn't get your question correct, man. No, you're good. You're good. Yeah, it seems like it's going to be pretty steep. But as we get closer and closer to the deadline, teams are going to have to make a decision here. And if you're the Tigers and Jack Flaherty is not in your long-term plan, then if you're the White Sox and Garrett Crochet is probably going to be gone in free agency before you can contend again. I think he's strike while the iron's hot and it's a seller's market. So, yeah, it'll be steeper to get the starters, but there becomes a point in time where everybody walks away. And one of the main buyers who's looking for starting pitching is the Orioles, and they're notoriously holding on to prospects. So there will be a point where the asking price gets too high and the teams just stay fine. We'll go with what we have. So I think once we get closer to the deadline, it might shake things loose a little bit there. Matt Snyder, CBS Sports, always gracious enough to join us, especially the day before the trade deadline, when a lot of people are making a lot of phone calls and we really do appreciate the time, Matt. What is the next 24 hours like in the life of a general manager? How close can you go to kind of telling us what the likes of AJ Preller and the rest of these guys are doing for the next 24 hours? Are they honestly just sitting there making call after call after call? Are they sweating it out? Are agents calling trying to make things happen? How nuts is this right here? I think there's a lot of delegation that goes on. And yeah, sometimes I do think, obviously, once it gets close to the finish line, Preller would need to be on the horn with whatever general manager or club president they're dealing with, let's just say it's Chris get to the White Sox. But before you get closer to the finish line, I think there's a lot of exchanging names and tossing out the ideas which come from people ranked below the main boss there. So I still think it's incredibly hectic. You just have to delegate because you can't keep up with everything every conversation that needs to be had. And especially seeing something like, for example, the Cubs trading for Esauk Paratus, something like that can't come about if Jed Hoyer is just sitting around and saying, you know what, we're not really going to sell that much because we're in limbo here between a buyer and a seller. So maybe we'll just be quiet. Unless you're having tons of conversations, you don't even stumble on the idea of, hey, they'd give us parade as if we included Morel. You don't stumble on that idea if you're content to stay impact. So they have to be having tons of conversations. You know, Matt, one of the teams that's interesting, that seems like they're kind of, it also in that, I don't know, that that kind of midpoint, whether to buy or sell is the Toronto Blue Jays. They have moved Turner today. It sounds like Kakuchi is a guy that teams are calling on. Do you think they end up moving? Vlad Jr. or Bishit in this deadline? Or do you think that's an off-season deal? I think it could be argued that they should. But every bit of reporting we've done and every indication we have is that they think they have enough of a foundation in place that they can contend next year. And they're still hoping to extend both Bishit and Vlad. So they're going to hold on to them. And they're basically only going to move guys who were up at the end of the year in our rentals, like Kakuchi and Justin Turner. So that being the case, there's probably not that much more for them to move. So a lot of their guys are locked up. They've got four more years on Barrios. Gosseman has three more years. Chris Bassett has two more years. And Vlad and Bishit aren't up until after next season. So I think they want to keep that core and build around it. So that means the rentals, like maybe Kevin Kermier, he's a rental, stuff like that. But in Kakuchi, I think those are going to be the main ones because they're just going to try to do a better job of building around the guys that they have signed through this year, through next year. Tell us a little bit about what you know, Jason Adam, for those who aren't familiar. This guy's been on the few different teams. He pitched in the World Series for Tampa Bay a couple of years ago or in that playoff run. Every time I've seen him pitch, he's pretty much lights out. He's got ERN or three. You can't have too much relief right, getting into if you're going to make a postseason run. So this makes a lot of sense. It gives the Padres maybe two, maybe three eighth inning guys ahead of Suarez now. Yes, absolutely. He has really, really good stuff. He had a terrible season for the Cubs a few years ago. And the Rays picked him up and basically just fixed him, which happens sometimes. But high strikeout rate when he's on doesn't walk many guys. He's going to be mostly forcing fastball as most relievers are, but his out pitches, he can use a change slider or a sweeper. It would slide or sweeper. Pretty similar, but you know, it's a different shape to it. But he is relying on a change, which I guess you don't see as much in relievers these days or whether usually like fastball slider or something like that. It's like a throwback to Trevor Hoffman with the fastball change. But yeah, he he used a change about a fourth of the time. Matt, lastly, for me, you know, Blake Snell, he took a long time to to find a home. He eventually did with the Giants. They're another one of these teams that are kind of in that no man's land. You're starting to hear reports on teams calling in on Blake Snell. Do you think that's kind of a pie in the sky? I did. Or do you think that's actually something that could happen? I think there's a chance he goes now. It's interesting. Three and a half games out. It doesn't seem like Far Hands ID is the type of guy who gives up when there are only three games and a half games out. That's like a raised move, right? They just gave up. It doesn't feel like they will, but you know, it's always possible. They'll see a package that they like and they continue to get healthier in the rotation anyway. They just got Robbie Ray back, Alex Cobb will be back. They could probably fill a rotation without Snell. If they look at it like, hey, we can get something back for Snell. Maybe they'll want something closer to Big League ready to help the offense. Maybe they would move on from that because he just has the player option for next year. But most people think he's just going to hit free agency again and try to find with the team earlier and get a longer term deal. So if they viewed him as a rental and they thought they could get something back, it might make sense to move him and kind of do it in a way that helps them this year as well as for the future. I wouldn't mind seeing him go back to San Diego. That's pretty fun. There's a bunch of people out here that would mind seeing him back in the positive year for him. Since he came back from the IL, he's looking like last year again, the last four starts, 0.75 BRA. Yeah. Yeah, Blake. Blake and Tony were good buddies. So I certainly want to get Blake back. That 30 million dollar player option is probably the thing that scares. That's why we probably have Tony because you're not willing to give up into your salary to help in the guy. Yeah, that's the thing. I think most people think he's definitely going to not exercise it, but it is a risk. It is worried about salary for next year that he could always say, Hey, I'm just going to exercise it. Stay here. So there are teams who would be scared off by that. For top of my head, the Orioles, I think would be scared off by that. Matt, it's always great having you with us. I just want to the Padres has finished a seven two road trip that included taking series from Cleveland and Baltimore. That to me establishes you as something. Now, I know they're right in the middle of this wild card. There's six teams within three and a half games is what they've done, though, kind of convinced anybody around baseball that this is a team that if they make the right move and they get into the postseason that you better be worried. Yeah, me. I think they definitely. But yeah, I think they definitely could be dangerous. But then again, you could lose in the wild card round. It's such a short series. So many flooky things happen these days. But I do think the level of talent that they've had, the injuries they've already dealt with, assuming they can get everybody right, you need to be firing all cylinders when you get there. So you need luck in addition to being good. But they definitely have the fire power that if they make it, they could they could get hot. Yes. And I joked with Tony that a pro far would have cleared the bases with a double in the ninth inning and completed that comeback. They might have had to give him the MVP award right there. I know it's a joke. But where do you put pro far in the MVP list right about now in the National League? We're we put him way too high because we've seen him here all year. Yeah, I think Bryce Harper's got to be up there. Kristen Yellich would be up there. But now he has that back injury. And it's worrisome. They said he might have that surgery. Mookie was up there. But he's been hurt for a while. He's been out for a while. So it seems like it's Otani and then everybody else. Francisco Lindor, if the meds keep playing like this and he keeps playing like he's playing, he's going to be up there. I think could tell Marte deserves a lot more credit than he's getting and holding up the Diamondbacks, especially with Corbin Carroll. So bad to tell Marte he's been amazing. So pro far is probably in that here with guys like Marte and Lindor where you could see them continuing to make it push. But it just feels like everybody's playing for second right now. Yeah, it's still been a great story out here for sure all year long. And Matt, we thank you so much for the time. Have fun the next 24 hours. We'll talk to you soon. Thanks, man. All right. Have a good one. Oh, it's nice catching up with Matt Snyder. We have reached the end, ladies and gentlemen, clean four hours, some laughter, some seriousness, and some goofiness is what you usually get it to this show. Adam, just flat out meanness. I'm screaming. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Scravey showed his true colors a day really did die by I told you I've changed. Yeah, I hope so. I've changed. My man got in the car and drove from Cincinnati to Cali to get away from her. It was not that. Scravey shows up next. Have a good day.
