Yep, the swings grounds it to the left side. Solano in the bread basket has got it. Throw to first in time. Seven no-hit innings for Dylan Cease. One and one. Now the pitch swung on, bounced up the middle right to Kim behind second base. Throw to first is in time. Eight no-hit innings for Dylan Cease. And of course, he would finish it off. Welcome into Gwen and Chris, everybody. Kind of a special Thursday get-together here on San Diego's number one sports talk station 97-3. The fan as the Padres Dylan Cease throws the second no-hitter in franchise history today, finishing off the Washington Nationals. Three nothing this afternoon. Cease rolling through a 114 pitch performance, struck out nine, walked three, and talked his way into the second no-hitter in Padres history. Mike Schiltt made it sound good after the game, made it sound like he was kind of thinking of keeping him in. But nobody felt that. I mean, Mike Schiltt basically came over and gave him a congratulatory handshake after the seventh inning and said, "Nice job." You know, and Dylan Cease had to talk him into staying in the game. What is there to talk about? I don't get that. And, you know, I don't want to go old man on my lawn thing, but I'm tired of this no-hit. Guys coming out in seven innings. Skeens a couple of weeks ago or last week came out after seven innings and 99 pitches, no-hit baseball. Let these guys go get their no-hitters, and for those of you who think Dylan Cease's career has been ruined because he had to throw 114 pitches. Keep in mind a couple of things. Number one, 113 was his previous high. Number two, this is the 12th time this year that he's thrown more than 100 pitches in a game. He'll be just fine, and the Padres are fine for now. A five-game win streak and a sweep of the Nationals. Ben Higgins tweeted this out earlier, but I was thinking it. He gets credit because he tweeted it out. The Padres' six-nothing series win over the Nationals this year has got to go down in baseball history as one of the most dramatic six-game sweeps ever. I mean, you look at the games that the Padres won in this series. The Profar walk-off bases loaded double or single because he cut off short and ran to the Nationals dug out. And then the following night with the Machado home run and the Profar Grand Slam and then the Hagash Yoka two-home run game, and it's all finished off today in DC. I think they're calling it what? Washington Dylan Cease. Yes, that's what DC stands for. That's what DC stands for. The Nats were DC's today. Yeah, I thought I'd let you give that stupid line. Thank you. Thank you. I gave the first one. I let you have the second one. Way, way, way. Stupid. Chris Ello here. That's Matt Scravey. Tony Gwen Jr. is obviously, he's on a bus right now from Washington DC to Baltimore where the Padres play tomorrow, but we did catch up with Tony. We'll get some of his thoughts after he and Jesse called a no-hitter today. We'll hear that in about 15, 20 minutes. We actually have a really good show lined up. We weren't planning on, you know, a no-hit day. RJ Anderson from MLB. CBS Sports. I'm sorry. CBS Sports. Thank you. He's an MLB writer for CBS Sports. He is the trade deadline guy. And as all of this is going on today, we are stepping ever closer to the baseball trade deadline. It's coming up on Tuesday. This is Thursday. There's only four days left. Five, right? Before the trade deadline is up. So we'll get the very latest from him and what the Padres may or may not be able to do before the trade deadline. That's coming up in the two o'clock hour. Also, a little bit later on today, we are going to catch up with the head football coach at San Diego State. You Aztec fan stick around. Sean Lewis will join us today. Right around four o'clock, the Aztecs are just a month and a week away from their season opener. So starting to get so excited for some college football around here. Sean Lewis will be on the show a little bit later on. As Sammy Levitt said, we will replay for you those who missed it. Sammy's post game interview with Dylan Sees from Washington DC. He did call into the post game show. We'll play that for you a little bit later on. And then we'll play highlights throughout and try to put this whole thing into perspective. The Padres now have exactly .006 of the no hitters in baseball history. There's been 306 thrown. The Padres now have two. At long last, Joe Musgrove has to share the mantle now with Dylan Sees. And wouldn't you know it? Guess who's been residing in Joe Musgrove's guest house since April. You know this thing? I didn't know this and I'm assuming Dylan Sees. But yeah, this is a Joe Musgrove thing. He let Adam Frazier stay at his house when Adam Frazier was traded over here. That didn't work out so well. This is where yeah, this has worked out a whole lot better said equipped Joe Musgrove after the game. The rent is going to go up after this performance. But yeah, Joe Musgrove. In fact, Joe was there in the dugout and according to some tweets that I saw from A.J. Casaville, Joe Musgrove walked over to Mike Schilt near the end of the seventh inning and said, you know, I think we should keep him in. His stuff looks pretty good out there. So, you know, Mike Schilt, I'm positive. I don't know how he spun it in the post game. But I'm positive that he was ready to take him out of that game at the end of the seventh inning. Yeah, 94 pitches at that point. And maybe because of the rain delay at the beginning of the game, Schilt thought, you know, that was enough for Dylan Sees. But this guy, the last, I don't know if it's not fair to compare Dylan Sees to Nolan Ryan yet. Nolan Ryan, think of how exciting that was today. The no hitter and everything that went into it and the pop fly that bounced out of Bogart's glove right into Merrill's glove and the play that Bogart's made at second base and bobbled the ball and was able to throw out Keebert Ruiz. Probably the only hitter in the Washington Nationals lineup he could have thrown out on that play because he's a catcher and he's really slow. Anybody else would have beat that out by the time Bogart's was able to field the ball. True. So, I mean, you know, so much has to go into it, talking Mike Schilt into staying into the game, not throwing too many pitches. So, he gets a no hitter. Think of this. Nolan Ryan did this seven times seven times in his career. He threw a no hitter. So, yeah, it's a little early to compare. But the only thing I the only mild comparison I would make is that Dylan Sees, when he goes out to the mound, it is at least in the back of my mind. I don't know if it's in the back of everybody out there's mind that today is a day he could throw a no hitter. This guy almost had one a couple of years ago, eight and two thirds at Minnesota and are against Minnesota when he was with the White Sox. Sorry, I finally got the cameras up if you want to watch. Oh, good. Thank you. I've been looking really good today. I appreciate you finally getting that up there. You keep looking at me like, are you listening? And I'm like trying to listen. Yeah, I'm over there talking to you and you're looking in another direction. But here's the thing with Dylan Sees. I feel like he almost has a chance to throw a no hitter every time out. And here's why I say that. Go back to April 22nd at Colorado at Colorado even seven innings one hit. How about May 8th at Chicago Wrigley Field seven innings one hit. How about June 26th at home against this Washington Nationals team seven innings one hit and then July 13th Atlanta six innings one hit and his last out in Cleveland in Cleveland seven innings one hit. This is the sixth time already this year that this guy has pitched six or seven innings or more and allowed one or no hits. So he's been buzzing all around it all season long. Now, not only did he have the no hitter bid that a rise broke up. Yeah, that's really fun. In the White Sox and that is kind of ironic certainly. Very ironic. Yeah. In fact, I honestly believe the only way the Nationals were going to get a hit today is if they could have worked a late deal to acquire a rise in the seventh or eighth inning and bring him up to bat because none of those national guys were going to get a hit off him today. You know, they could have batted all day long. But this is the sixth time that he's allowed one or no hits in the start this year. So it really shouldn't be all that shocking and what's more? Go ahead. No, go ahead. I was going to say what's more shocking to me is that there have been these outings where he's just not consistent at all where it stretches about. He's like maybe two starts in a row where he's not consistent. But for the most part, he has been this guy all year. Well, no, he hasn't. And I'm not trying to disagree with you. But along with the six starts that he's allowed one hit or less. He's allowed five runs in a game and six innings, five runs in a game and four innings, seven runs in a game and three and two thirds innings, six runs in a game and three and two thirds innings. He's had some starts where you look at it and you're like, how did that happen? Because you honestly feel like he's, you know, no hit or waiting to happen every time out. And today, finally got it. So it's awesome. It's exciting. I mentioned this to Tony and you'll hear my visit with Tony in here a little bit. But as I said, it's a 306th no hitter in Major League history. So they've happened before. Yes. Right? Yeah. But for some reason, they're just exciting every time, especially for the team that you especially when it's the team you're rooting for. It's so rare. It is. Let's pause real quick for station identification. K W F M and K W F N H D one San Diego. This is Joe Musgrove, a desert himself, one to four to three. And that's all for the Giants. Padres play San Diego's number one sports station. He's seven three. The fan and on the sports station. Dylan sees pictures of no hitter today as the Padres shut out the Washington Nationals three nothing sees faced one batter over the minimum. Along with his no hit effort, he walked Lane Thomas twice early in the ball game. Once he was thrown out, stealing once he was erased on a double play. There was a third walk later in the game to CJ Abrams. He was turned out he was the only left on base all day. He got the second base on a ground ball. But neither winker nor yet Pez could bring him in. So they had two at bats with a runner and second base. This was, you know, very dominating. I got to give Musgrove the nod. If you want to tell me who's no hitter was better. There's no such thing. They're both amazing. They're all their own no hitters, but Musgrove didn't allow a walk in his no hitter. It was one hit batter was the only thing they kept in from a perfect game. So he faced one over the minimum as well. Musgrove did in his no hitter. Musgrove through 112 pitches sees through 114. Musgrove, I think, struck out 10 see struck out nine. Very similar in that regard. But yeah, it's awesome. And you know, I've said this all season long and I don't know how to quantify it other than to say look at the results. But there's a little magic to this season. Of course there has been Profar has provided most of it. I hate to tell you, Profar has been in the middle of a lot of the magic. Uh, gosh, Yokas had the magic run that he had. Meryl's had the magic run that he's had. And today it was, uh, Cece's turn to be the magician and pick up the second no hitter in club history. His stretch of three starts just before the all star break at home against Atlanta. And then after the all star breaking Cleveland and then today in those three games, and this is ridiculous. He's pitched 22 innings. He's allowed two hits. Obviously no runs. He's walked seven. He struck out 30 in those three games. The Braves, the guardians, excuse me, and the nationals are a combined two for 65 against Dylan Cece. How does the guy ever give up a run? It's really, it is amazing that he has run because when he's really good, you can tell he's untouchable. Well, he is. I mean, look, the guy has a season ERA of 3.50. Yep. Not like it's 1.50. Yeah. Like, I mean, they've scored off him throughout the season. But he didn't look like you could ever score off him today the way he pitched and, uh, give Jackson Merrill a ton of credit. How many times do guys back up plays basically for no reason at all? They don't need to be there. Yeah. They don't need to be there. These are major league players. They make good throws. They catch the ball. You don't normally have to back up. But guess what? Yes, you do. And Jackson Merrill raced in from center field and Bogart's went out on that pop-up by Yepes. He turned, I think he turned the wrong way, which was it got him into a little trouble. Yeah, he did the, uh, oh, yeah. And then he had to scramble and that ball pops out of his glove and it would have fallen to the turf. There's no way Bogart's would have been able to re get, recapture it. And Merrill's right there to grab and, you know, then the play Bogart's made later on in the game against Ruiz. So it was a memorable day for the Padres. Most importantly, you know, it's five straight wins on this road trip. And let me tell you something. When this road trip started, if I had told you, guaranteed you that they'd go five and four, you would have said, yes, you said, I'll take it. Yeah. Well, guess what? They can lose all three games in Baltimore and still go five and four. So let's get a little greedy now. Hey, the Orioles have struggled in Miami. They've struggled since the break. Yeah. They did win today. They blew a lead, they blew a lead, but they won an extra inning. So the Orioles did win today. Um, but you know, this is, I think this is a season that's going to wind up in the put in the playoffs. I just have, I've had that feeling all year. Um, it's hard to have that feeling when they're in one of their slumps and you know, one of those is probably right around the corner again listening. Yeah, I know you're not, but you've said that every time, maybe you should listen, because every time I say it, you say, I'm not listening and then they lose four in a row anyway. I'm six days away from being officially able to check the standings again. So, well, uh, you know, you're going to like what you see right now. Padres are right in the mix now, the Mets, the Cardinals, everybody's right there was Michael Kings. Did it go into the seventh on Sunday? Because that would mean we've had no hit watches in two games in the last like five days. I think Michael King made it to the through six innings through six. I think he made it through six. Um, the Sam Levitt brought this up on the, uh, on the post game show. But in their five game win streak, the Padres have given up four runs and 14 hits. That's five games. That's phenomenal. That's less than three hits a game on average and to think that on that Friday after a week ago, ridiculous. You don't do that. I was like, Oh, here we go again. They got swamped by the Guardian seven. Nothing in the first game after the all-star break. Of course they gave it. They six of those runs were in the eighth inning, but they beat the Guardians two to one for nothing, 12, three, three nothing over the nationals. You know, and Waldron, you didn't talk about this game last night, but he gives up a quick three and then he locks in. I mean, his knuckleball wasn't knuckling in the first inning. Lane Thomas ripped a double winker, drove him in and then yep, has homered three knuckle balls. Every one of those was a knuckleball that just didn't really do a lot of knuckling, but you know what, Waldron fought right back and, uh, he's pretty good at that. Cause I've, there's been a couple of other times this year where he's gotten in trouble early in a game and you think maybe he's headed for an early exit, but then he locks it down and he goes six. Well, Padres are locking things down right now. I mean, that's four runs allowed during a five game win streak. Three of the games have been shutouts and, um, you know, it's all good for the San Diego Padres as they head to Baltimore. And, um, you know, when the Padres get to the postseason, and as I said, I think they're going to be there by hook or by crook, they're going to be there, uh, they're going to have to send a little playoff share money to the nationals because, I mean, this dominance of them this year has been memorable. Let me ask you this, Chris, you were talking about on Tuesday before the game about how you want to see a player get plunked. There were no fireworks in this series at all, but they did end up going on to whenever game against them this season. Does that, is that the ultimate? Like we got you. I would say so. Yeah. Yeah, I would say so. Were you unhappy that they didn't try to take a plump or wasn't really thinking about it, you know, on Tuesday before the game, you practically wanted to get everyone in the row. I thought about it through Keebert Ruiz's first at bat on Tuesday. And then I was like, all right, they're not doing anything. And, you know, just keep playing great baseball. Um, yeah, and the Padres are doing that. All right. So three, nothing was the final today. Cease gets the second no hitter in Padres history. We are underway. Uh, here's the plan. Uh, Tony Gwen Jr, our visit with him after the no hit call is coming up next, the bottom of the hour, RJ Anderson to talk baseball and the trade deadline four o'clock. We'll get, we'll have some other features in along the way. We'll do a Chris versus the fans. Scrabby will tell me a time for that, because it's normally at four o'clock. Yes. Today we've got Sean Lewis from San Diego State, their football coach coming on at four o'clock. So, uh, but we're going to be here. Scrabby and I till five 30. Original is supposed to be here till five. Yes. So we're extending. We are. And then Scrabby's going to extend even beyond that till six 30 six 30 six 30. All right. So that's what we've got coming up for you. Gwen and Chris underway. Happy Padres. No hitter day. Dylan Cease does it on 97 three the fan. I mean, right now I just feel happy. I mean, I don't know how to describe it. It really is almost, uh, it's almost too good to be true. Um, and just, I'm, I don't know how to feel right now. Feel good. Enjoy. Enjoy the ride to Baltimore. Dylan Cease with the second no hitter in Padres history. If you haven't checked in where you've been to 21 is the time, Chris Ello. Tony Gwen, Jr. In Washington, D.C. where Dylan Cease threw that no hitter today. Padres are now a busing to Baltimore where they'll start a series tomorrow against the Orioles. Matt Scrabby is alongside here in the Odyssey Palace studios. The victory three nothing over the Nationals. Uh, they got the three runs in kind of a weird way. Extremely weird way. Right. Uh, top of the first inning, uh, Patrick Corbin started for the Nationals. Walk two gave up a hit in there. Basis were loaded two outs and Hassan Kim came up and then it started pouring. Well, it actually started pouring maybe a little before that he walked. I think it was Bogart's before Kim came up. And you could tell he couldn't get a grip on the ball. And then he threw the first pitch to Kim and that was a ball and he looked turned around and like, what's going on here? And then it was mad because they, they started the game. They were, I think he was mad because they didn't stop it. And he was trying to throw pitches in the rain. And then when they did stop it, I think he was mad that they thought they didn't let him finish the inning. So he was mad, I think, on both sides. But after an hour and 16 minute delay, Hassan Kim came up. Matt Scrabby tweeted out that all three runners should have to stand on their bases during the rain delay. No, I said, you're such a weird guy. I said, in my weird brain, I just imagine them having to stay in place. No, they couldn't leave the bases or they could get tagged out. Yeah. That's the rules of the game, Chris. Rules of the game. You, you, yeah, you have to stay on base even during a rain to know. I really didn't get it because I was walking lucky on my phone. It said, hey, game started. And so I'm like, all right, I'll check it when I get back. And then I get back and it's in a rain delay. Yeah, it started bases loaded to us. So after an hour and 16 minutes, Corbin went back out, Kim came up and the count was one and oh, and give Kim a lot of credit because he fouled off some tough pitches there with a three, two count. And then, you know, with the runners going, and now is the key to the whole play was that Croninworth was at first base, got a got a running start on the three, two pitch. Kim really hit the ball off the end of the bat. He didn't hit it hard. But James Wood, the rookie, you know, that the Padres so stupidly gave up to the nationals, a dove for a ball. He had no chance of getting to. And by diving, he let the ball get past him. Croninworth was going to be fine stopping a third base. But as soon as he saw wood dive and missed the ball, that allowed Jake to come all the way around and it turned into a three run double for Hassan Kim. But it's a, to me, it's a misplay by, you know, James Wood trying to make something happen when it wasn't there. But those were the only three runs in the game. Padres really didn't do much the rest of the way didn't need to as Dylan sees walk three struck out nine in his 114 pitch gem today. Most important of all with the victory, the Padres slide back into a wild card position. They came into the game percentage points behind the Cardinals for the third and final wild card spot. They now own that spot, a half game ahead of St. Louis in the National League. And the other part is, I mean, look, they're tied with the Mets. The Padres are, they're now only a game and a half behind the Braves. The Braves have really come back to the pack. So which we expected it is all wide open right now in the National League. And the, the, the National League West, I think is going to get very interesting here in the last two months because you have the Giants now with a couple good starts from Blake Snell. Then you got Robbie Ray last night doing his no hit thing through, I think six or seven five innings. Oh, five innings. He was impressive as Dylan sees, not as impressive, but it was his first start of the season. And that is impressive. So Robbie Ray was helping the Giants win that one last night in LA. Clayton Kershaw, by the way, is back on the mound for the Dodgers today and they're leading the Giants three to two in the top of the fifth inning. But yeah, after the game, we caught up with Tony before he got on the bus to go to Baltimore, wanted to get my partner's thoughts on today's history making performance. And of course, we couldn't let the day go by without getting some thoughts from my partner, Tony Gwen Jr. about the no hitter thrown by Dylan sees today. And first thing I thought of Tony was, you got to be there this time. You and Jesse had to call the last no hitter sitting in an empty press box at Petco Park. Yeah, that was certainly a little bit different setting this time. Not looking at it through a TV screen, being there alive and in person. And that was pretty special. I mean, Dylan had it going today as he has the last couple of starts. I had a little better luck. I mean, I think the first couple of last two starts, they got hit pretty early. So it kind of threw cold water on the whole idea of a no hitter, but that was not the case today. Some luck terrific play by Jackson, a stay with it played by Bogey and the rest as they say is history. You know, Tony, you've been around the game, you know, as long as anyone, and this is the 306th no hitter in baseball history. But I don't know what it is. It's always exciting. Even if it happens like in a Toronto Detroit game, people get excited about tuning in and watching a no hitter. When it happens for the team, you follow. It's extra special. And you know, I just I don't know what it is. And no hitter gets everybody going. Yeah, I mean, it's it's it's a pretty exciting 24 hours, right? I mean, we'll get to celebrate this. The weird thing about baseball is that there's another game in the bar and you're forced to kind of turn the page. These guys will have to do the same thing, especially going into a place like Baltimore where, you know, those guys were on the verge of getting swept. I don't know if that game ended up going their way or not today. So you know, they're going to have their hands full, but for this 24 hour period, all that's going to be talked about is Dylan season is Padre franchise and rightfully so. I mean, he was he was really brilliant today. And it wasn't brilliant in the way that he normally is where he's, you know, can double digit guys. I know he had nine, but this was a much more efficient day of work for Dylan C. Were you surprised they left him in after the seventh inning? No, I wasn't. I mean, he had he had he had 80 think 86 pitches at the time. And, you know, it was he was efficient enough to where and he's one of the guys that goes longer, you know, 113, I think is his max. When you get into that area, I think coach is still comfortable. And he was the right guy at the right time. Tony is in the DC with the Padres on their way to Baltimore, but checking in with us after the Dylan sees no hitter today. And Tony, just tell us a little bit about your dealings with Dylan cease. I don't know how often you've spent with him, but we had him on our show. It just seems like a really quiet, reserved guy. He didn't get too excited. It didn't seem too excited in his post game interviews, but maybe it takes a calm heartbeat to finish off one of these things. I mean, I haven't spent a ton of time with him. I mean, Dylan is kind of off with the the pictures and kind of in that mode a lot of time. So I don't get to spend a lot of times with him. But I do get to watch them pitch every fifth day. And when he's got that kind of stuff, I mean, that is in the realm of possibilities every time he steps on the mountain and he has that kind of stuff. To have a no hitter in general, you need some luck. He got that luck today. Meryl being in the right place at the right time, bogey, stand with that play, Ruiz not really running the hardest out of the box. Those are the kind of luck things you need to go your way in. When you got a little luck and you're as good as Dylan sees, this type of magic can happen. And so it did for Dylan sees today becomes the first picture in the modern era to throw three consecutive starts with six or more innings and one or fewer hits allowed. First guy ever. That includes Nolan Ryan. That includes Johnny Vandermeer, whose name always comes up at times like this. Do you know why his name always comes up at times like this? The question hit me, but I was like, I'm not going down that road. You're not going to trust me. But I guess because he had these situations, Johnny Vandermeer is the only pitcher ever to throw back to back. Oh, no hitters. I did kind of sort of know that. Yeah, most people are kind of his name pops up, especially if cease can go for five innings in his next start, then you start thinking about it. But no one's ever, never one's ever had the back-to-back no hitters except for Vandermeer. He did it in 1938. I was there at both games. So that the height of athletic ability 1938. Well, one of the things about Vandermeer's one of the two no hitters, I think was the first night game ever played. It like Ebbets feel like I don't think anybody can see the ball. Like there was some extenuating circumstances to it. But yeah, Johnny Vandermeer he was the guy through back-to-back no hitters. It's the only guy to do it. Cecil get his opportunity sometime next week when the Padres come home. Yes. Now I would imagine, I'd imagine, I haven't looked, I guess I should since, you know, we are the Padres flagship. I should know this stuff. But yeah, Dodgers are coming in next week. Sees a shake. Let's see, Friday, Saturday, Saturday. Yeah, got him in Wednesday. Yep. Against Tyler Glass now. Well, that would be a fun one. Yeah. See, no, no, never mind. Go ahead. I was going to say they already did that this year, but that was Michael King in Tyler Glass now. Yeah, it'll be. Actually, the Padres don't know who's going to start tomorrow. You want to pitch in Baltimore? Oh, actually, we do know. We do know. Oh, we do. Dennis, we're going to do this to me. This is one of the things I've been passed along. Let me pull it back up. It's Adam Major. It is. It is Adam. They're giving him another shot. Here we go. Adam Major will start tomorrow for the Padres. Michael King and Randy Vasquez are scheduled to start over the weekend. That's true. That's true. Now King is going Saturday, Vasquez Sunday. The fact that Adam Major starting tomorrow night in Baltimore is not going to engender a lot of confidence out there, I must say, but I guess they think he's the best option they have. Yeah, they're not going to just throw him out there because he's there. Well, that's what we've been saying, you know, but they keep putting him out there and it's not working for him. So maybe tomorrow he can get it together. But in the meantime, the Padres celebrate Dylan Cease's No Hitter. We take a break three nothing over Washington today. When we return RJ Anderson from CBS Sports joins us. The baseball trade deadline is less than five days away. What is the latest? We'll find out next on 97 three, the fan. I just want to say that my guy Sammy Levitt and I, me and Sam, were the only two guys on planet Earth who have done a Padres post-game show on the radio following a no-hitter. That's right, Sam, you and I were the only ones. Sam Levitt tied me today in post-game no-hidders. Yeah, I was on the assignment the night of Joe Musgrove's no-hitter. In 2021, today Sam Levitt took us through a post-game show following Dylan Sees, his no-hitter today in Washington as the Padres shut down the Nationals 3-0. And when they're 5th in a row, and Dylan Sees will celebrate his no-hitter a little bit more as we go along here this afternoon. But right now, we are really excited to be joined by RJ Anderson from CBS Sports, great baseball writer, and trade deadline. That doesn't slow down because the Padres pitched a no-hitter today. It's still coming up on Tuesday. RJ, how are you today? What's new? I'm doing well. How about it, so? Well, you know, everyone's pretty excited here, obviously. Today, after the exploits of Mr. Sees and, you know, it's interesting, as it stands right now, RJ, there's still really only been two major trades in baseball this season, right? The Padres got Louisa rise and the Padres got Dylan Sees. Yeah, so yeah, I mean, it's interesting because everybody always waits till the trade deadline. AJ Preller didn't wait, and he's gotten, you know, he's got pretty good results out of those two deals so far, wouldn't you say? Yeah, and remember that there were rumors trying to get Derek O'Shea earlier in the summer as well. No, obviously that didn't happen, but it would have been his third deal. And, you know, I think there's something to being the first mover. We've seen it with the Atlanta Braves, now at the fall of time and time again, where he's always seemingly the first person to make a transaction during the offseason. And then, you know, if you're confident in your evaluation, you're confident in your negotiating ability and confident in your team, you know, sometimes it's worthwhile getting everyone out to the punch. RJ, is this, I mean, we're five days away from the trade deadline history. Does this tell us this is pretty normal that right now everybody's, everything's still a rumor, everybody's still kind of positioning? Or when would you say the trigger normally starts getting pulled? Yeah, I think this year is going to be later than normal, just because it was to hit the wild card races. I mean, last night's shot, I think there's only 18 at all of baseball that were more than five games away from a playoff box. And when you have that kind of congestion, you know, it's going to be a seller's market. And that means the sellers have every incentive to wait until we're in those final 72 hours before they really get serious about making a deal, you know, unless someone really overplays their hand and over pays. So I don't think this is going to, you know, stack up the historical average. I think it's kind of unprecedented in the year in a sense, or at least a rare year. And I think we're probably still, you know, hours away from things really getting going. Talking to RJ Anderson here of CVS sports and the trade deadline, you already mentioned Garrett Crochet. And that's who I was going to ask about because I know he's been linked to the Padres for quite some time. We've been watching how they've been handling his innings. And and I'm not sure how teams are going to use them. So my question to you is if they go after Garrett Crochet, the Padres, would you think it was more for a this year move? Or was it is it going to be for the team control that his contract has? What kind of what kind of pitcher is the team that trades for Garrett Crochet going to get? Yeah, I mean, that's a great question. And I have nothing to do with this talent level. I know there's everything to do with us health. Remember, you know, the concern about him when they moved him to the rotation this spring was the fact that, you know, he's barely coached, even as a reliever. He's just barely pitched because he's been in your timing again. So I think if you're acquiring Crochet, normally I would say, you know, it's about this year plus next few years. But in this case, I think he may have to put more on this year because you don't know what comes next. You know, I don't know how his body's going to hold up. I don't have access to his medicals. You know, that's something the teams will have, make him make by determination. But I do think that maybe his years of control turn out to be a little bit of an illusion. And, you know, that's often the case with pitchers. So I don't think that should be shocking to anyone, but he might be an extreme case with him. RJ, of course, we're all looking at the Padres and their angle here. But I just curious as we look around baseball, there's two teams that jump out at me that might be the most. I don't want to say desperate, but the most in need of making a move right now. One is the Red Sox who have a slumped here a little bit and falling behind the Royals in the wild card chase. But the other for sure seems to be the Braves, all of the injuries that they've had. Now the year they won the World Series, they traded for a whole new outfield right at the trade deadline and they end up winning in the whole championship. Is there a shot Atlanta can pull off something like this again? How desperate are the Braves at this point to save their fading playoff hopes? Yeah. I mean, those are great questions because when you look at that roster, it doesn't seem like there are even any easy answers right now between injuries and performance. And not all some of these ever players who, you know, we know are all our caliber players and just having miserable years, 100 plus games is in season. So I do think anthropology is going to make moves. I think it would make sense, frankly, for him to shop at the top of the market too, if you can, because, you know, I bought him a crochet, I bought him a chair of Sue, but we bought him the Luis Roberts Jr. You know, you could slot them into that lineup and have it make sense for the rest of this season and even having forward, especially with the uncertainty about what the future holds for Max Frieden, Charlie Morton in Atlanta. So yeah, I think the Braves have to do something. I think it would be a shame that they left this opportunity in this season, all by the way, so I do know they're doing a lot of the doing it, and doing a lot of the destroyers the rest of the way. Talking to RJ Anderson, CBS Sports here, and the Padres, I personally don't think they need to make some huge big splash with a trade. They just need to get a guy that can come in and do the job and fill a need that they have. Do you think that they are going to be a team that we're all talking about, or are they just going to kind of ride under the radar a little bit and make the trades here and there? Yeah, so I mean, with AJ Preller, you never want to bet against them. Funny way to make a splash, right? Smart answer RJ, smart answer. I'm a little hesitant to say, oh, yeah, they're going to fly underneath the radar, but I guess my concern is not whether there is a desire to go out there and make something happen at the top of the market, whether there's actually a halfway there, because their firm system is, and if we did state, a lot of their top prospects are either really young or they're having down years or a combination thereof, and I think that's going to limit his ability to go out there and get a scoop or get a crochet, or whomever you want to talk about at the very top of the market. That said, I'm sure he's going to be shopping. You know, AJ Preller, like, hey, you know, that's just one of those generally interesting count on doing something over the final 72 hours, even if it's not necessarily, you know, his biggest move from one of the biggest moves he's made at deadline. One of the names that I'm intrigued by RJ for the Padres is the left-hander Tyler Anderson, who's now with the angels and has pitched in this division with the Dodgers and the Rockies and has made two all-star teams in the last three years. Are you hearing anything on the angels' willingness to perhaps move him and what kind of situation would the Padres be getting if they could acquire somebody like him? Yeah, I think if you're the angels, you have to definitely listen on him. I mean, I know I was told, gosh, I guess it was six to eight weeks ago now that the angels were starting to listen to offers on players and, you know, that included relievers, that included Soreano, that presumably included Anderson, although I didn't hear him by name. The thing is, and you know, he has a really shiny ERA, and you're right, and he's got a draft record of being a solid big league starter, but the thing is, he's kind of having a weird season because if you look at his strikes already, you look at his walk rate, you look at some of those underlying metrics, it's not really as pretty as you would think based on the ERA. So I don't know exactly what to make of that, you know, it's still a contact manager, and again, the traffickers says he's going to continue to be a solid big league starter coach here, but I think that there's actually more risk for this profile than you would think. And I don't know that he would be atop of my target list upon Diego, just because I wonder if you can find a little bit more of a short thing, even if they don't necessarily have, you know, a ton of upside or whatever. But yeah, I have a lot of questions that I understand. I'm not quite sure how that's going to unfold for him over the rest of the year and heading forward. Talking about Roger Anderson about major league baseball trades, the trade deadline coming up next week, he works for CBS Sports. And I was going to ask you about I'm going to ask you about one player because I've seen this name pop up more and more. But now that Sandra Bogart is back, Donovan Solano doesn't really have a consistent role with the team and he's been good and he continues to be good. And it's been floated around here in town. Could they trade Donovan Solano to kind of take the pressure off of so many infielders? Do you think that's something that they could do or is Donovan Solano not really a guy you want to trade or or wouldn't get a strong offer? Yeah, I'm inclined to think that he's not someone who's going to bring back enough to justify moving him. You know, nothing against Donovan Solano. Yeah, I thought he's going on a big league roster opening day. You know, I like that in Solano for what he is. But we're talking about, you know, a right-handed hitter who's not really field defensively. And you know, you're probably not going to put him on the left side of the infield too often, at least some of these clubs. So I think that he probably has limited trade value. And I would have a hard time with seeing any ever team giving up real value for him at this point. How about Hassan Kim? What is his name? That sounds like I know you're going to I'm going to just kind of generally jump on your thing. Hassan Kim to 25 batting average, you know, some occasional power gold glove defense, but also a free agent at the end of the year. To me, it seems like there's just no way somebody's going to offer you a, you know, a decent return for somebody who's a rental hitting 225. But then again, the Orioles just lost their shortstop Mateo. So anyway, the question is, is there any chance Hassan Kim draws any interest? Oh, I think he was all interest. I think he would be surprised because, you know, the reality of it is, if you can play shortstop as well and talk about Kim Kim, you're not going to want for opportunities, right? Someone's always going to want you on their line up. And, you know, if you look at some of his partner Justin's stats, it's not as bad as that batting average looks. I don't know if it's ugly, sunflower batting average, but if you look at some of the ever, you know, part of Justin metrics, he's not as bad offensively as you would think. So I think that he's actually, I think he would be in demand if they were to make him available. But I would have a tough time actually for seeing the Padres trading him at this point. I could be wrong about that. I think if that was going to happen, it would have happened over the winter. I would agree with that. RJ Anderson, CBS Sports here with us real quick. Last question. I read this this morning, Blake Snell is pitching well now with the Giants, but his contract is not very giant friendly. And some people are trying to move him too. Is there's a chance that he would be on the move? I mean, I think not because, you know, the Giants are just not getting the full strength or of course, the full strength is the one to get. And I think they probably envision themselves, you know, being in that NL wildcard race down the end and snow. Yeah, he struggled. I wonder how much that, you know, truncated spring training hurt him. But I think they envision him being big part of that down the run. So down the road he's giving me. So I would be surprised if he moves as well. Well, I'll tell you one thing. I, you know, just browsing the CBS Sports website. And if you're into this trade deadline, get over there and look at some of these RJ Anderson articles. I could keep you on all day. RJ asking about all the things you've written about and all the information you've put out there for, you know, fans to read. So we appreciate you taking a little time out to visit with us here in San Diego and look forward to catching up to you again down the road and invite everybody to check out some RJ Anderson stuff on CBS Sports. Thanks again. Yeah, thank you for having me. You bet you sir. RJ Anderson there from CBS Sports. And today he wrote a lot about Luis Robert Jr. Oh, and the likelihood of somebody acquiring him. Guess who he has is the number one possibility. Yeah, I just knew it. It's always the Dodgers, isn't it? I just knew it. It's really funny. He writes here. People get tired of seeing the Dodgers always ranked atop these lists. We get it. But unfortunately, what can we do? They have the prospects and they have the movie though. I guess I'm sure they do. I'm sure they do. I'm sure they do too. I mean, James Altman has been a disaster this year in center field. I think he just got recalled because of injury to Chris Taylor. But they've been, they've had a hole right in the middle of their outfield and the Dodgers, you know, they're going to spend the money and get somebody. And I would think that Luis Robert probably will be a Dodger. You know, you know, we're a while their money is tied up on the bench, Chris. Yoshinobuyama Moto. Not getting much out of him. No, not getting much out of him. And then you got all the other guys and by that $325 million contract is expensive at this point. I'm certainly not here to pick on the Asian players. Well, what I'm saying is you got Yamamoto there. That has not worked out. Oh, I see. I don't believe Matsui has worked out for the kind of money that he's been given by the Padres. You know, I think, you know, Hassan Kim's been okay. You know, everybody knows he's not my all time favorite. He did drive in all three runs today. So let's give Hassan a day off. Yeah. You know, in the criticism department, but you know, there's a little more risk with those guys than I think teams are willing to, you know, talk about. I mean, because you're right. You give Yamamoto what? $325 million. And this guy, now he's been hurt. But even when he wasn't hurt, he wasn't dominating anyone. He was getting there. He was getting by, but he wasn't great. And he's a three time MVP in the Japanese leagues three years in a row. So that's their best player, clearly, like he's, you know, the show. Hey, Otani of the Japanese League. Yeah. Yeah. Otani's in another world, of course. But Yamamoto has not been able to come over here and dominate. Now, maybe that'll change. Maybe in September, he'll start mowing them down when he gets back to health. But, you know, just, you know, I don't know, I understand why you pay pitching big money, starting pitching big money. But I don't understand. I know why, but it would be really hard for me to sign a picture because they're, it seems like pitchers take, you know, get injured. They, especially high in this day, throwing pitchers in this day and age, they certainly get it. And it's always tricep tendinitis. No, it isn't. Sometimes they just blow out their arm all the other. Pull that. Yeah, one. Yes. Okay. Good point, Chris. Good point. You can put together an unbelievable team of pitchers that aren't pitching. Oh yeah. An unbelievable team. Yes, you can. I mean, Spencer Striders right at the top of that list. And he was lost, like, first couple weeks of the season, right? About a weekend. A week. Okay. I think he made one start, maybe two. Might have got two. I mean, I feel bad for those guys because they don't want to get injured. I'm not feeling bad for the people who owned him in fantasy baseball, like me. I'm not feeling bad for those people. Definitely don't feel bad for those people. I know you don't. If he was on my team, I would be commiserating with everyone. Dylan C's pitch to no hitter today, in case you were wondering, Padres shut out the Nationals three nothing. As history was made in the district of Columbia, more on that, more going in Chris ahead. Here's the one and Oh, Abram swings, lines it into right field. Johnson coming on, he's got it and the ball game is over. Dylan C says, no, hit the Washington Nationals. On a rainy Thursday in DC, the Padres will celebrate. They have mob seats on the infield, and the pod sweep the nets with a three nothing victory. C's came close time and time and time again. And today he gets it done. No question about it. Jesse Agler on the call right here on 97 three, the fan, a little Padre's history a little earlier today as Dylan C finishes off the second no hitter in franchise history, joining Joe Musgrove as the only Padres ever to pitch a no hitter. It took thank you for that Scrabie. It took the Padres 53 seasons to get their first no hitter, only took a little more than three seasons after that to get their second. The Padres were the last franchise, by the way, in major league baseball history to throw no hitter. But now they have two as Dylan C's did it today. And I'll tell you, Jesse Agler's call a couple things. One, Dave Marcus was thinking outside the box as the Padres producer on radio. Dave Marcus filmed Jesse Agler calling the last out of the game. I have an update to that. You do. I believe the phone was just sitting on the table. Well, after I saw the video, but Dave set it up, he got to go in. He got the video, but he filmed them. He didn't have to be manning the phone. He filmed it. Oh, okay. I imagine when you say he filmed it, like he's holding the phone. No, he sat it down there and set it up. And you can see Jesse Agler call the final out of that no hitter. It's tweeted out there. By the way, good for those guys. They finally get to call a no hitter in person that they got to get to be at the game. Yeah. Yeah, finally. Yeah, the first no hitter, of course, was just after COVID right at the beginning of 2021. And Tony and Jesse were calling that game from an empty booth at Petco Park. But Jesse Agler had it down. Talked about Dylan Cease knocking on the door and finally getting it done. Today, get this. This is ridiculous. Today was the 14th time in the last three years that Dylan Cease has pitched at least five innings and allowed no more than one hit. The 14th time we already talked about it earlier in the show. He's done it six times this year alone, pitch six or seven innings and allowed one hit or now zero. Yeah. The only other guy that's even close to that is our old friend Blake Snow, who's done it 10 times. Okay. That's random. Well, I'm just kidding. No, no, no, no. Those two are the guys. Yeah. But Dylan Cease, when I said that he's the most likely pitcher in baseball right now to go out and throw a no hitter in any start, he's the guy. Dylan Cease is the guy. He is this particular generation's version of a Pedro Martinez. Every time he went out, you're like, he could do it. And going all the way back to Ryan. Ryan was the main guy. Every time Nolan Ryan had to check in in the fourth inning and see if he had a no hitter. And most of the time, he did. And then he finished off seven of them. But Cease, this guy's got the kind of stuff that it's almost hard to believe he has given up as many runs as he has this year. Yeah, it's got a 3.50 ERA even after today's game. But man, as he'd been on fire lately, last three games, 22 innings, only two hits. Opponents are two for 65 against Dylan Cease in his last three starts. That is a that is a phenomenal span of pitching. A couple of other quick notes. And then we're going to open up some phone calls. So if you'd like to comment on Dylan Cease's no hitter, try to put it into historical perspective. You can do that at 833-288-0973. Scrabula actually be answering the phones. If you call in 833-288-0973. But Dylan Cease, a couple of other quick notes on this. Cease becomes only the sixth pitcher in the expansion era because they didn't keep track of the stuff prior to 1961. But in the last 60 some odd years, only five other guys have pitched a no hitter after previously losing a no hitter with two outs in the ninth inning. Oh, wow. Because Cease did that a couple of years ago. He had a no hitter with one out to go when he was with the White Sox against the Minnesota Twins. And of all people, Luis Arise broke it up with a single. He said it in the interview that he was he was pretty hurt on over that one. So it would really hurt if it happened. He said it would have been really heartbreaking. He had he lost another one with two outs in the ninth inning. The only other five guys who did it through a no hitter after losing a no hitter with two outs in the ninth inning. Roy Halliday, Dave Steeb, Tom Seaver, Jim Maloney, and Larry Durker. Oh man, Larry Durker was on fire. Durker was a 20 game winner back in the day for the Astros. So don't be making fun of guys just because you don't know who they are. I'm not making fun of them. I was just. Yeah, you are kind of. I said he was on fire. You're not even kind to are. You just are. You flat out. I need to be so upset. Whoever I say that. By the way, when Dylan Sease came within one out of a no hitter two years ago and Luis Arise broke it up. He finished that game. Okay. Until today, that was his only other career complete game. That surprises me because that guy goes deep into games a lot. Guys just don't complete games. I mean, as an aside, you know, Blake Snell is never ever ever recorded and out in the eighth inning ever. He's a two time site young award winner. Never has gone into the eighth inning. Got it out. That is wow. That's pitching in this day and age. Ladies and gentlemen, we're going to shake our fists at the clouds. Yeah, you know, I've done it enough. It hasn't changed anything. I do get annoyed though when pitchers come out and it's like, wait, wait, wait, wait. You've only thrown five eighties. You got like 72 pitches and now we're going to a bullpen game for the rest. All right. Stick around. Sammy Levitt's post game interview with Dylan Sease will play it for you in about 10 minutes. But we're going to take some phone calls right now. 833-288-0973. Get some of your thoughts on today's historical performance. And we have to start with another guy named Chris in Escondido. A 97.3 the fan. Chris, thanks for calling in. How are you? Thanks for taking my call. All I have to say, well, I got a couple of things to say. But first off, we're all the AJ Priller fans out there. I got one thing to say for all the AJ Priller, hey, if I should rephrase. Yeah. I have one thing to say. I was nervous for a second. I'm going to pause right here. Let me go back a little bit since 1969. I have watched pathetic being out to prophetic team for decades. And AJ, all I can say is this guy's put a team together for the last whatever he's been there. Eight, ten years, I know I get, we haven't won a World Series yet. Let me tell you something. I am so proud to be a Padre fan. And every team he's put out there has been somebody we can root for and cheer for that's evidenced by the sold out, you know, crowds every night after night after night. Yeah, we haven't won a World Series. But you know what? There was 40 years of no hope at all. And every year we go into it. There's hope now. And the other day, I'm going to say last month, I was in New York for a month. And the friend I was staying with didn't have, and they were up state New York. They didn't have any cable TV. So I listened to a lot of East Coast, the New York, and Boston Sports Talk Radio. And they were, it was when the Padres were playing the Mets, and then the Red Sox. And those guys were talking about AJ. They were very high on all of the acquisitions you made, essentially. And they were very adamant Mets broadcasters and the guys. And if the Padres are ever done with AJ, they would take him as a heartbeat to run their organizations. Because he's given this organization that was hapless for years and years, some hope every year. And he's, some of the trades haven't worked out. But it's not his fault that guys would come over here for whatever reason and forget how to hit or has been the player they were before. But I just hope that the Padres, regardless of what happens this year, that he's back again next year. Because I love going in every season with an aspiration instead of just hoping we don't finish in last place. Thanks again, guys. And have a great day. That was AJ Preller's uncle Chris on the phone. No, it wasn't. It was just Chris. Big AJ Preller fan. You know what? Nobody's really an AJ Preller fan for whatever reason. And I don't get it. I don't get it. We talked about this the other day. 2019. Going all the way back to 2008, a 12 year stretch. Padres had one winning team. And the only winning team they had was the Tony Gwen 2010 team that shocked everybody and led the division all year only to be caught at the very end by the Giants. That team won 90 games. Every other team had a losing record until finally AJ Preller got it figured out. 2020 went to the playoffs. 2021 were in command of a playoff spot all year until it tanked at the end. But they played relevant baseball that entire season. 2022 and LCS last year. Everything was relevant. They just didn't make it and the same this year. The Padres in their history. Just a reminder to all of you in their history have never had five consecutive seasons of relevant baseball. All right. Ever. And I'm not saying that we need to scream that from the mountaintop because Chris is right. They haven't won at all. They haven't got to where they want to go. But five seasons of relevant baseball as a fan. I don't know that you have the the legitimate right to ask for more than that. You're in contention. The games matter. The crowds are there. There's excitement. People are into it. The results at the end. It's the way baseball works. You have 162 games boiled down to one weekend. That can be kind of a crapshoot. Yeah. But the fact that the Padres are having their fifth consecutive relevant season, you've got to give AJ a little credit for doing that. The people who hate him are always going to hate him. There's nothing I can say to change their mind. That is true. But I think, you know, he's figured it out. I mean, you know, it took a while. I think the people that hate him are going to be the same people that hate the next person and then hate that person and then hate the next person on that. You know, AJ, at least I'll say this. Like, yeah, he's had some clunkers. He's had some pretty weird moves. But name a general manager who hasn't. But what I'll say is that he doesn't let he doesn't it doesn't doesn't scare him to make trades. Doesn't deter him. Even after the trades that didn't work out for him. Look, I'm willing to sit here and criticize every one of these moves that haven't worked. And I do criticize them. But I think you have to ultimately judge by the the entire collection of the work and to be to be relevant five years in a row in a medium market is successful. I was thinking about how the all-star game featured a ton of former Padres that were on other teams. And people think of I don't know if people think of that as like a bad thing. But I don't really think of it as a bad thing because it's telling me that AJ Preller does have an idea of what good talent is. There were a bunch of a bunch of former Padres in the all-star game. Guess what? There are a bunch of current Padres that were in the all-star game too. We had five. Boom. Not bad. Boom. Let's go to Dave and Lakeside. Dave, thanks for calling Gwen and Chris. This is Dave. Number five in Lakeside. I want to scrape. He knows who that is. I just want to say, Chris, piggyback on you, this is one of the funnest seasons. I mean, I don't even have any taste of last year's season at all in my mouth. And this is just a sweet piece of candy that doesn't go away. It's just so fun to watch. You know, Uncle AJ's uncle is saying, this is fun. It's fun to listen to the game. Fun going to the game. I mean, I got this year, but it's actually fun to read, write my energy for baseball in this city. And it's been a long time. Yeah, what season? Yeah, go ahead. I just want to piggyback on you and see those, like you were saying, those five years. It's been fun. I mean, yeah, there's some bumps and some valleys and stuff like that. But know what? They're playing hard. There are certain players that are not playing hard, but then they say they play hard. And I'm not going to say any names, but, you know, who they are and stuff like that. But it's fun. It's enjoyable. And for being a mid economy or whatever you want to call it, we're not a Boston. We're not a New York. We're not a Dodgers or anything like that. We got what we got on the field and they're playing with what they got. And it's putting in their playing hard. They're enjoying themselves. They're having fun. I mean, I'll be, you know, a couple of days ago, you guys were asking the exciting time in baseball or the season when we signed pro for that was my favorite moment of the year so far. So I see Scrabies again. I mean, hang up. So, oh, it wasn't. Oh, you're watching too. He was just making a new day. He was just, I think he was just saluting you, Dave. I was actually just resting my shoulder. Nice. Thank you, Dave. Thank you, Dave. You know, you have to put it in a little perspective. 54 and 50, 55 and 50 now after the win today. You know, again, it's not not incredible, but you're playing all relevant games from here through the final two months of the season. That to me is what you can ask for as a fan. Give me a chance. Give me a fighting chance. Yeah. That's all you want. No, you want more, but you have to realize that getting it all, you know, the Rangers went their entire, their entire franchise history without one. Then all of a sudden it just jumped up and they got it just like that. I can't remember where I heard the crazy things can happen. There's like some crazy stat about teams winning the World Series back to back that had never won it before. So like the Rangers had never won it. So if they say the Padres win the World Series today or this year, it would be some sort of historical feat. You don't care about that one. Well, I would. Yeah. If you knew the actual feat, but since I don't know the feat, yeah, Katie, Oceanside. Welcome in. Hi, Katie. Hi, you guys. How are you doing today? Pretty good today. We're pretty fired up. I know you're doing well, Katie. Oh, I am fired up. So like for both of these no hitters, I have made an absolute complete fool of myself in a public place. Joe's was on my son's birthday. So we were at Dave and Busters and I'm like walking through Dave and Busters screaming my head off jumping up and down and barrething my son. And then today I had to kill some time at the Safari part. So I was out front watching a nervous wreck and then it happened and I'm jumping up and down. I'm screaming my head off and I'm like, oh, Lord, the tourists must think the locals here are crazy because this woman is doing all kinds of things out front of the safari part. Good for you, Katie. But it really what it really feels like to me more and more because it's been such an exciting start to the second half is it feels like 98 a little bit. You just you never know who's going to contribute next. It seems like a different guy every day. It's so good to see Bogart's contributing again, but it's it's not the superstars every single day, right? If we started the season, you told me that like matty nuts and like piggy and you know, Jackson Merrill is going to be rookie of the year. I mean, I don't know how many of us would have believed that, right? True, I wouldn't have. Yeah, it's been crazy. I think, you know, you compare to 98 and there's a long way to go to 98. I mean, after all, thanks, Katie. 98. They won the 98 games. That's still the franchise record. I don't think this club's going to get anywhere near that. They're going to have to go on an incredible tear. They don't need to get there. They don't need to get there. They'd have to finish 34 games over 500 to get there. But in a lot of that seems superstar driven in 98. Kevin Brown, Ken Kameniti, couple of years removed from his MVP, you know, Finley, Tony, Greg Vaughn, superstars this year, he got shioka, Merrill, Profar, Waldron. I think it's been different. They may not be household names, but they already was their Padres there to us. I'm going to try to sneak a couple more in here. And no, I'm not because a scrape, you'll get mad if I go too late, but stay online. If you want to get your phone call in, we'll take some more. Also here, Sammy Love, it's post game interview with Dylan Cease shortly after his no hitter. And I've got really excellent news about tomorrow's show. Give it to you after we check traffic coming up on tomorrow's show. Big doings, big doings tomorrow. Dang it. I was going to be cool and do the trumpets do do do do. Well, my mic was off. I did them anyway. Kristin's doing them just didn't do them in a timely fashion. If you haven't seen the eyes, Chris gives me when I make comments like that, you have to go to the YouTube search, 97 through the fan and watch because he gives me these eyes, like, what are you talking about? Where are you coming up with this? Tomorrow on the program, it'll be a one hour show because the potters are playing Baltimore. And that's an early start. But in that hour tomorrow, Dylan Cease will join us. So he'll have a night to sleep on his no hitter. You think he's going to sleep? Yeah, probably sleep sound like probably excited. And it wasn't early game. It's not like he's got all this adrenaline at midnight or something. Yeah, they're probably having a pretty good party on the bus ride to Baltimore. That would be fun. And then he'll get into a to a good old Baltimore there on the the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. And grab a bite to eat and probably see sleep quite sound like, you know, we always talk about this happening. It's going to work in a Padres favor. The Padres are going to be in Baltimore before the Orioles are in Baltimore. So Padres played in Miami today. Yeah, so they should be getting home soon. Yeah. Anyway, I want to get Mike in Mission Valley. He's been hanging on phone call there. Mike, jump in for a moment here on 97 through the fan. What's up? Mike? Hello? Mike. Sorry, Mike. Okay. Mike's screaming. That's it. Mike, you're out. Three three mics in your hour. Three, two, one. Good night now. All right. But we're going to have Dylan sees on tomorrow. Yes. So I love it a little time to think about it. But right after the game, he had no time to think about it. He was still excited when he joined Sam Levitt on our post game showed earlier today. Here's how that sounded. Now let's get to our NFL guest, Bresse Blesky joins us. That's Bresse Blesky for some reason. It was Bresse Blesky for some reason. How did that come up? I don't know. Here we go. This is actually it. We're joined by Dylan sees Dylan. Congratulations on a tremendous start. A tremendous day. Take me through what your emotions are right now. How you feeling? Oh, thank you. I mean, right now I just feel happy. I mean, I don't know how to describe it really is. It's almost it's almost too good to be true. And just I'm I don't know how to feel right now. Dylan, at what point today did you realize that you were maybe in the midst of something special? I feel like after the fifth, it kind of starts getting serious. And then after the seventh, it's like, you know, I mean, you are you're very close. So I try not to think about it too much. I mean, it's inevitable. It's inevitable. It's going to cross your mind. But I was just trying to focus more on pitch sequencing and where I wanted to get the ball. Dylan, did you feel that intensity heightened as you got into the eighth inning? Your pitch count after seven was at 94. It was at 103 pitches after eight. Did you feel things getting a little bit more tense? Were you concerned about the pitch count at all? Yeah. I mean, it was a little concerning. I, you know, after that seventh, I think I was at 94.95. And I kind of just hadn't mapped that in my mind. Like if I finish the eighth with like 105 and actually buy me, you know, and innings worth of pitches. So that was kind of what was on my mind. And then other than that, like I said, it was just how am I going to sequence and how am I going to execute? Dylan, a couple of years ago with the White Sox, you came one out away. And in fact, it was your now teammate, Luis Arise, who broke it up when you think back to that day and you think about what you did today. I mean, how sweet is this considering you have come so close in the past? Yeah. I mean, if it happened twice, it would have been hard for it. I can tell you that. But man, I mean, anytime you can do something that's, you know, like that, it's almost, it almost feels too good to be true. You know, it so much has to go right. Look at those multiple defensive plays today that that went our way. And I just, I couldn't be more thrilled. Yeah, you mentioned the defense. There was the catch and center by Merrill on the deflection off Bogart Smith. Xander made a great play later in the game. There was a double play from Solano to Kim that was not easy whatsoever. What did you think about the way your defense helped you through this no hitter? Man, I mean, they were rock solid. You know, I mean, I wouldn't have thrown it without them. But, you know, Merrill being behind Bogey right there and making that play. And Bogey making that kind of double clutch, sliding play on Ruiz. I mean, it's just so much has to go right. And I'm sure when I look back at this, it's going to be even more amazing. Dylan that moment in at the bottom half of the ninth inning, two out, you're facing the Nationals lead off man, CJ Abrams, line drive to right, Johnson catches it, you leap up in the air, your teammates swarm, you celebrate with you, take me through your emotions, your feelings what was that moment like to finally do it? Man, I don't even know. I don't really know how I felt. I was just so happy. And, you know, I just kind of let out a scream. I think it was like a primal scream. And then everyone is around me. So I think that was the most fun part is, you know, everyone, everyone kind of not dog filing, but, you know, I'm forming a circle and just being so happy. And, you know, I was just screaming, yes, I think I screamed, yes, like 50 times. And, man, that's something I'll be able to relive in my mind for the rest of my life. Well, Dylan screaming, yes, for good reason. What a performance here today. You've been so, so good as of late. And you were quite literally unhittable in this one here today. Dylan, again, congratulations on your first career, no hitter. And we'll see you back here in San Diego. Thanks so much for calling and appreciate it. Yeah. Thank you. All right. That is, yes, that is Dylan C's calling us from Nationals Park. Okay, the interview is over. You can turn it down now. What were you saying beyond the controls? Why were you so angry? I thought you would cut it off after the interview was over. No, I thought it was funny that he said, talked to you later and Sam started laughing. That's what I thought was funny. So I left it in there on purpose. That was Dylan C's just a little bit after his no hitter earlier today. We have a quick time out here. We are going to do against my best, my best thoughts here. We're going to do a little Christmas versus the fans. When we come back, a little trivia, we normally do it at four o'clock, but we're expecting to be joined by Sean Lewis, the head coach, football coach of San Diego State at four o'clock. So if you want to play some trivia, 833-288-0973, Dylan, chance for you, perhaps, to earn a trip to Las Vegas, but you got to play. It's coming up next. Here's the one and two, and Yepa pops it up off the handle of that shallow center, Bogart's awkwardly going back, reaching for a basket catch, couldn't make the play, but Meryl grabbed it out of the air one away. Seems like every no hitter that's ever been pitched, and there's been 306 of them now, in Major League Baseball, has featured a memorable play, something like that along the way. Dylan sees getting the benefit of a great hustle play by Jackson Meryl doing what he's supposed to do, frankly. I mean, racing in on a, on a pop up to short center field, Xander Bogart's went out, as Jesse Agler described, kind of awkwardly went out for that ball very awkwardly, and it popped out of his glove, should have fallen in, would have been a hit, except for Jackson Meryl was right there to snatch it out of the air, and that was in the fifth inning, about an hour and a half later, maybe an hour later, Dylan Cease would have the second no hitter in Padre franchise history, as the Padre shut out the Nationals, 3-0 today. Chris Ello, Matt Scrabie alongside in the Odyssey Palace studios, Tony Gwen Jr. joined us earlier from Washington DC before the team headed out on the bus to Baltimore. Dylan Cease will be on our program tomorrow. Make sure you're tuned in for that between two and three o'clock. Another reason to tune in to tomorrow's show, I'm off tomorrow. So for those of you who just, yeah, exactly, you just absolutely can't stand me. Tomorrow's a hell of a day to tune in. If Emily Scrabie's really excited about it, I won't be in tomorrow, but Dylan Cease, I'm bummed for you. No, you're not bummed, you're just, you're, you're going to Bogart, the interview with Dylan Cease, all to yourself, that's all. No, no, no, I'm really hoping Tony Gwen Jr. joins me for that interview. Tony will join you. Yes, otherwise, you might get really nervous if it's just you. Are you kidding me? I did Stephen Colek. I interviewed Stephen Colek July 5th after, when you guys were here, and I was very nervous to interview Stephen Colek. Yeah, well, then you'd be off to Dylan Cease. He seems like a guy who's not, he doesn't make me nervous. And Stephen Colek does? No, some, no, I'm not. Yeah, you're right. That's a weird way to put it in. But his personality kind of puts you at ease. Dylan Cease is a very easy going guy. It was great too. I'm not seeing him. Just do me a favor when Dylan's on tomorrow, say Chris isn't here, but he wanted to ask, was shaving the beard off and only going with the mustache, the key to your recent surge. Oh, I'll think about it. Because I get into consideration. I kitted with him earlier in the season about that he has baseball's best mustache. Now, Paul Skeens has come along and might be giving him a run for his money. Good. Okay. I don't think it is, but if you ask people out there, you know, the name of mustache and baseball, they're all going to go Paul Skeens. Don't forget about Dylan Cease. He had it first. It's a fake mustache on Paul Skeens. Uh, Padres with the win today, go to five and one on this road trip. They're 29 and 22 away this year. That is the best road record in the National League. Remember, that's like, I take that back. Oh, I was only looking at the wild card teams. Let me double check before. No, it is the best road record in the National League. The Dodgers are 28 and 22. The Padres are 29 and 22. So they do have the best road record in the National League. I was correct. Good. Come quite a, uh, speaking of the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw made his season debut today for the L A D as Ted Leitner used to famously call them the L A C's. The C standing for cry babies. I love Ted when he was on a roll. No, no, no, no holds barred on that one. Ted Leitner was the best doing the local news and in other games tonight, the L A C's lost to San Francisco six to six to two. The C stands for cry babies. The cry babies are in action today against the Giants. Kershaw went four innings, allowed two earned runs in his season debut. I think he struck out six Dodgers and Giants are still playing four four. They're in the eighth inning at Chavez ravine home of the cry babies. I said, just get a kick out of that one. Ted did it every time. All right. We got a couple of lines open. If you want to play Christopher's, the fans eight, three, three, two, eight, eight, eight, nine, seven, three. You know what happens when we play Christopher's, the fans, somebody qualifies to win a trip to Las Vegas. That's right. Two nights at the Rio Las Vegas dinner for two and a day bed at the Rio pool. The Rio Las Vegas is back. New ownership, newly remodeled rooms for sparkling new pools and a brand new food hall already for you now and for your next Vegas escape beyond the expected beyond the strip, beyond your wildest dreams. Rio Las Vegas, the rhythm of Vegas book now at rio Las Vegas. Dot com. Let's play some Chris versus the fans. After some traffic. Yes. If you had one shot, one opportunity to take down the human all manack himself. How do you do? Now is your time. Listen to me, this guy, dangerous. Now is your opportunity to win a prize. Well, I hope you know what Jen for Chris versus the fans starts now on 97 three, the fan. All right. It's been a couple days since we played this. So let's go over the rules. Once again, you have to make it through three questions. Each question is going to get more difficult as you go along. If you get the question right, you move on. If you get it wrong and Chris gets right, you're eliminated. But if Chris gets the wrong and you move on to the next question, or you win, if you're a first time player. Thank you. Charles Busy. What are you doing? Something else over here. Great. I'm paying absolutely no attention to anything you're saying. If you are first time player, then let us know before you get into the first question. You'll get that question for free today and be ready to go keep the radio down. I'm going to say. All right. Your voice. Okay. I mean, every time I every time I clear my throat, you think it's a, you know, a federal disaster. So I want to make sure that you're okay over here. Let me do an impression of Chris. When he when he something happens in the break, everyone's like basically every day where he starts going. I think I'm okay, everybody. You know you do that. Maybe twice a day. That actually happens today. Okay. Let's get to our first contestant today. And the first person to call in was Danny. So we're going to go with Danny. Hello, Danny. Hello, hello. Are you ready to play? Yes. And I'm a first time. All right. That was a good play us. Good to have you, Danny. Good luck. You hope we have a lot of people who seem to win their first time. They do. Yeah, because you get through the hardest question. The first one. The first one. Yeah. Uh, which what picture has the most losses in the modern era? He said what picture in the modern era? Patrick Corbin. He's close. Don't kid yourself. And he added another one to the ledger today, Patrick Corbin. Oh, man, poor guy. Yeah, Sayo. Stay there, Danny. I think it's sayo. Okay. What are you talking about in the modern era? What would it when it when it saw young pitch in like 1900? What's the modern era? I believe stat head or baseball reference. Oh, like the sixties. Oh, the sixties moving forward. Let me make sure of that. That's not. Well, sure. Yeah. Once again, you've come up with another kind of bogus question. No, I got this from baseball reference. I don't care where you got it from. I even started keeping links, Chris, because I want to prove this to be real. All right. So you don't want. So saw young doesn't count. Then how about Nolan Ryan? Does that count? You've already gotten it wrong, but that is the correct answer. All right. Well, fine. Why don't you ask a totally different question? Because I don't think that question was the saw young is the all time lost leader. That's it. He just is. That's it. Yeah. So I'm going to give Danny. Why does Danny have to suffer for this? I'm not. I'm giving him another chance. Otherwise, he would have been eliminated if you would have asked the question correctly. Okay, I did ask the question correctly. Hold on. I'm still trying to figure out what the modern era is before we move on because that's how the modern era is not from the sixties. Okay. Okay. Let me okay. Whatever. Sorry, Danny. I tried to get you on to question number three, but we're going to have to go back, I guess, and ask question number two again. You still there, dude? Okay. He's good. Here we go. Who won All-Star Game MVP? This year? Correct. Yes. Good play. Well, good point. Good a year. Good point. Good. Oh my god. I'm blanking. Couldn't need an answer. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I didn't hear what he said. He said, oh my gosh. Well, it wasn't Patrick Corbin. Jared Duran was the guy's name. Say it again. Jared Duran. Jared Duran from Boston. Okay. Sorry, Danny. His name's Jared. Good. Sorry, Danny. Glad to hear that stuff. Danny, good to talk to you. You'll get another crack at it. Scrappy, you're crazy with your questions. Why am I crazy with my questions? Because Cy Young is the lost leader. He's also the win leader. I'm sorry. It was expansion era is what it's called. Then call it that. Okay. If you say the expansion era, then I know it's from 1961 on. If you say who's the all-time lost leader, then it's not from 1961 on. So you have to make note of that. I think I just died. Yeah, what happened? I mean, you get a question wrong and you're nevermind. We're moving on. We're moving on. I'm not going to entertain this. I'm not going to entertain it. Good. Moving on. Here we go to our next contestant, Ray. Hello, Ray. Hello. First time player. First time player. Another one. Wow, that was pretty good. Wow. All right. Here we go, Ray. Question number two. I'm going to give you three players and you're going to tell me what team they played for together. Adrian Beltre, Raul Abanyes, Jamie Moyer. What team did they play for together? I don't need a year, just the team. Ray. Stay there. Mariner. Okay. Don't stay there. Sorry about that, Ray. Sorry, Ray. He's got me in a mood now. I'm in a competitive mood. Goodness. You are so weird. Josh, you're up next. Hello, Josh. Hello. Are you ready to play? Let's do it. All right. Here we go. How many minutes is an NBA quarter? Josh. 12. 12. Okay. All right. Let's go to our next question. Which MLB team has scored the most runs this year so far? So far. Gillies. The Phillies. Just double checking before we get into trouble. Stay there. Yankees, even though they've been slumping. The Yankees, you say? I am. You say the Yankees. Will that? Is it correct? The Dodgers just took over. Unfortunately, they've scored 516 runs this year to the Yankees, 513 runs this year. Really? Yes. You're actually going up to the second them. Yes. Up to the second. Good for you. Just because I don't want any funny business. Good for you, Rod. You move on. Josh, Josh. Here we go, Josh. Question number three. Four Padres hitters have had six hits in a single game. All you need to do is name two of them. Again. Four. Sorry. Sorry. You said Mark. All right. Okay. Another one. Luis. Arise. Luis. Arise. Stay there, Josh. I'll say Tony Gwen. Okay. Senior. Okay. And Gene Richards. They might two guesses. Sorry, Josh. Sorry, Josh. I didn't know if you know this one. Gene Richards is definitely not the one I thought you would get. Adrian Gonzalez. Yeah. Had six hits. Tony Gwen had six hits. Joe LaFever. Joe LaFever. Oh. Oh, pronounced LaFever. L.E.B.V.R.E. Yeah. Joe LaFever. He had six hits and Gene Richards. I remember Gene Richards from Wayback Machine. From the Way, Way, Way. Sorry about that. Josh. All right. Like I said, I'm a little ultra competitive. I don't know what Scrabies made me testy. And I have to get a winner before, because we have the Aztecs head coach Sean Lewis coming up. Let's go to EC running real quick. Hello, EC running. Hey, how's it going? I was actually calling in to comment on what we were talking about earlier. I just want to say thank you to Peter. Sorry to the real quick. Okay. Very good. Easy. Nice job. Yes. Well said. Do you want to play? Of course. Yeah. All right. Thanks, man. Here we go. This is not a sports question. What bird lives in Antarctica but cannot fly? Penguin. Penguin is correct. Sydney Crosby. Sydney Crosby. Yes. That is the correct answer. All right. Second question. Who was the first person to step foot on the moon? I'm strong. Nice job. Gave him two non sports questions and he was up to the task. Yes. Many people think there has been no one that has stepped on the net. All right, conspiracy. Here we go. Easy money. Question number three. Since the year 2000, what former Philly player has stolen the most bases across baseball? Oh, he's playing the game. Chris, you know. I don't but I'm going to guess Rollins. Jimmy. Wow. That was pretty incredible. I have to say. Wow. Sorry. Easy money. All right. We're either going to have to revisit this or play again. Yeah, we're going to have to play another day because we do have the Aztecs head coach Sean Lewis coming up at the top of the hour. So we'll just we played that one for entertainment purposes and apparently we're going to be fighting here in the break. Probably going to throw down. So keep the cameras rolling. Don't miss anything. Aztecs football coach Sean Lewis will join us at the top of this hour excited to talk some sports with them. If you're just tuning in today, you hardly missed anything. Oh, yeah. Dylan C's pitch to no hitter. More to come on going in Chris. Hey, welcome back to going in Chris. 401 is the time. We love Spiro's Mediterranean cuisine around here. This hour brought to you by Spiro's. Authentic Mediterranean cuisine, authentic Greek. Cornado, La Jolla, Petco Park for dining takeout options, visit spiro's cuisine.com. Chris here, Matt Scrabie there, Tony Gwen Jr. on a happy bus ride from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore. After the pottery is not only beat the Washington Nationals today, three nothing, but Dylan C's no hit the nationals. Second no hitter in Padre team history. Took Joe Musgrove, 53 seasons to get the first took Dylan C's a little more than three seasons to get the second. It's good stuff. It's definitely good stuff. I just think that Dylan C's we've been talking about for years because Chris Paddick came close to a no hitter. To Nelson Lamatt came really close to a no hitter. Who was the, was it Jordan Wiles, who had like a eight, he was in the eighth with a no hitter at Petco and it ended up getting broken up. But Padre's had a lot of them early in their history as well. Dylan C's just seems like long time long time Padre fans remember the names Clay Kirby, Steve Arlen. These are guys that took no hitters into the ninth did not get it. 53 years later, finally Musgrove delivered the pottery's with the last team in Major League Baseball to have a no hitter. Now they have two of the 306 that have been thrown in the history of the sport. Dylan C struck out nine walk three today faced only one batter over the minimum. Hassan Kim drove in all three runs with a bases loaded double following a one hour and 16 minute rain delay in the top of the first inning. There was even some thought that maybe Dylan C's might not even be able to start the game. I mean the rain delay can totally mess up your warm up schedule and all of that but I don't think there was a whole lot of discussion about that. He went out to the mound and dominated. All right we are we're excited here because joining us from the Montezuma Mesa, Sean Lewis is the Aztecs head football coach getting ready to start his first season on May 25th. Dylan C's pitched against the New York Yankees at Petco Park. Why am I bringing this up? Because on that day Sean Lewis threw out the first pitch at Petco Park. Coach, do you remember Coach? What's up guys? Yeah I remember that night. And I don't know if you saw what Dylan C's did today with the no hitter but uh everybody's no no right. Yeah I just wanted a positive issue if I'm not mistaken. There you are not mistaken coach. You're on you're on top of it and I know you're very busy. You get a lot going on. Hey great to have you on the show. We appreciate it and give us a little update. I can't believe it's like just a tad more than a month before you get to play your first game and I imagine you're about ready to run through a wall right now. Yeah guys it's exciting. I mean obviously there's been a ton of work that's been done by the staff and more importantly the kids you know ever since we got rolling in January here but the guys will finish up our eight week summer conditioning phase tomorrow morning with with one last run with Coach Sobel and then we'll have an extended weekend for a little bit of R&R to get refreshed and get their minds right and we'll report to camp you know next week and then shoot a week from the day we'll get we'll get rocking and rolling and maximize you know the month of August that we have to get right and to become a team and to be able to go out and execute and defend our home turf on August 31st at Snapdragon against a really good Texas A&M Commerce team. Coach let me ask you now that you've had this job for a while and you look back at the first I don't know six months or so since you've been hired what about the job has been kind of what you expected and what about the job has maybe surprised you a little bit over the first six months something maybe you weren't expecting as much. Yeah I mean the the number one thing that jumped the mind is the tremendous support of the administration and president de la tora and obviously how important athletics are to the fabric of our university I knew that was going to be the case but to have their support to have their encouragement and to have their backing with all the things that we feel like we need to do to consistently bring championships you know here home to the Mesa again that has been outstanding you know the thing that you know probably maybe was a bit of a surprise you know I was probably pretty naive to think that hey come into San Diego you know not a small college town maybe able to you know blend in a little bit more and kind of get lost on you know a little bit of downtime that that I have or that my staff has and it's just been amazing everywhere that we go you know with the support of the community man you're not blending in at all and the staff ain't blending in our players aren't blending in everyone is is dying to have a winner and to pack snap dragon and to have an exciting brand of football in all three phases so you know that was probably just a little bit more naive to say on my part uh thing that you know hey in the big city you know the escape a little bit but man that that is a welcome surprise and you know greatly greatly embrace that talking to the Aztecs football head coach Sean Lewis here on 97 through the fan and I got two questions for you one very serious question or they're not serious questions but one's kind of a joke question how much sleep do you get because you have incredible energy and I need to learn your secret if you're not getting that much sleep uh I'm at my best when I can get about six six and a half hours of sleep okay typically I'm pretty regimented and by about 10 30 10 45 I'm down and then the alarm's going off about 434 45 to go um you know but again we were just talking about it as a staff actually yesterday you know just finding the ways that are unique to yourself to keep your energy up because we are in the energy transfer business right and we got to be full so we can pour into these kids you know so just hey whether that's daily readings uh I enjoy doing that and enjoy working out like those are things that keep my battery up keep me you know energized and charged and it's pretty easy when you got a great group of young men that you get to pour into and out to be a fabulous spot like San Diego State to do it well thank you for entertaining that question coach Lewis my actual question is going to be this one the as Chris said the season's almost here what are the most intriguing storylines for Aztecs fans to keep an eye on during preseason camp yeah I mean the two biggest things are you know how we continue to grow and improve and come together along both of our fronts the the offensive line of the defensive line I'm a big believer that the game is one there as much as the game has evolved and and all the changes and trends that are going on there's still a physicality that needs to be established along both the offensive line and the defensive line so you know excited for the new pieces that we've added excited for the guys who you know where we're held out during spring practice because of injuries and things like that to have everyone up and available to really fortify and to build the physicality of our team along both lines um it's going to be a great storyline to to pay close attention to and then the other piece is you know it doesn't matter what level of ball it is you need a quarterback and um you know we got a very deep quarterback room and the competition in there um it's going to be fierce and looking forward to see who comes out of that quarterback competition you know as our starter and it's going to be our guy as we go forward. Sean Lewis is with us and just a quick aside coach you mentioned you got up at 4.30 every day you have to get up at 4.30 every day if you're going to be a surf pro like you're heading towards you saw your clip of your surfing but you know it's great to see you you know just jump into the San Diego uh into this community and I think you know the people have welcomed you because you have welcomed San Diego and uh yeah I think everybody really is excited to buy your presence in this team uh you look around the conference you're you're obviously new coach there's eight new coaches total in this conference in the in the mountain west I know you're still looking on opening day but as you look down the road a little bit is it a little difficult to get a read on exactly what we're up against this year or are you just going to focus on your club for now? Yeah I mean it's probably a little bit of coach speak but I'm always going to be more obsessed and about my club and that's always going to be top of mine um but to your point yeah I mean it's a little bit of chasing ghosts in the unknown within the conference not only with the eight new coaches within the league but then also you know all the roster turnover that has taken place because of the new coaches and the transfer portal and the different pieces that have come and gone so yeah I think it's always critically important to you know again obsessed about you know your team and you know the impact that you can have within your own building and then regardless of who happens to be the the next great faceless opponent that's going to line up across from us you do your due diligence and you give them the the respect of us preparing for them throughout the course of the week but you know our plan to win is about the things that we can control and those are the people and what we do and how we do it within our building. We're talking to Aztecs football head coach Sean Lewis here on 97-3 the fan and last one for me coach thank you so much for the time we had three of your players in studio a few weeks ago to kind of observe our radio show and just learn what it's all about learn kind of what the media ins and outs are and I think it's awesome that they did that and they have interest outside of football. Do you encourage guys to do things like that and look ahead to life after or outside football? Absolutely and I think that's one of the tremendous advantages of our great city right is where we have all these tremendous opportunities whether it's coming into the studio with you guys and and being able to learn that craft or one of the other numerous companies or relationships that we have within the community so that guys can always kind of be thinking about life after ball right I mean whether that is when they're done here on the Mesa playing their last nap or it's after a great NFL career I mean at the end of the day you're going to look up and there's a whole you know another chapter that needs to be written and I want our guys you know to be elite in all things that they do and obviously to do a great job you know on the field but I don't want them to be defined just as football players right playing football is it's something that they do but I want them to be well rounded young men and you know just get out in the community as much as possible grow with shadow ships internships those opportunities they're second to none that again I feel very fortunate that we're able to provide because of support within our community it's second to none I can tell you right right off the hand coach Dale Sean Staley your new safety from Kansas City if you need somebody to call out your defensive signals he's got a pretty good voice because he did he did a good job in studio news very inquisitive and you know very much fun to hang around they asked a ton of questions they were great they were really great it was a lot of fun having them in here last thing coaching again thanks so much to the time because you are so busy for sure but the fans want to know this I mean you're four and eight last year etc this happened that but the Aztecs had won the 10 game the nine games had been to Bulls what can you put any cap on how much of a turnaround you can have in one season what is your attitude and what is your what is your your whole theory is you kind of talk to the people around San Diego and how much you'd like to get done here early yeah I mean the biggest thing for us is to maximize each and every single day you know we have a mantra that we've installed and you know established in day one called be the alpha and we define that as improving and competing today right to stack all these plus one days and that's really what it's about right to be in the present to to improve and become a better version of yourself day in and day out compete against yourself compete against your brothers in the building so that iron sharpened iron as we go forward and I think it'd be unfair to the kids right now to say hey we're we're a bold team we're a six win team we're a seven win team you know when I don't know by you know the end of camp and where we're going to be a month from now you know what that looks like you know I don't want to put a feeling on this on this crew I think we got a tremendous you know group of young men that are exceptional in all areas of their life I feel very fortunate with the staff we've been able to bring here and excited to do the work day in and day out and you know when we look up at the end of this thing I think we're gonna like where we're at well we were we're really happy to have you coach and speaking for the rest of the Aztecs for life that are listening to the show that's me Aztecs for life and really excited to have you personally look forward to going out and seeing your club play and and hopefully catching up with you during the season thanks for giving us an update we really appreciate the time yeah guys thanks for the opportunity go Aztecs you betcha there you go it's john Lewis a guy that scrapie said six and a half hour sleep seems to do him quite well okay I thought it was gonna be a fun question and it turned into he's he's rock solid he's got everything mapped out this guy he does he does because I'm 45 I'm up with 430 I originally thought like when I asked the question because college football coaches are probably up all night looking at film they go to sleep for a couple hours here and there but that that is interesting to me that he's he has to put himself in that space where he gets to sleep between those hours he is uh he's he sounds like a he sounds like a from central casting a great football coach he does that's just what he sounds like I mean there's no other yeah there's no other way to describe it he said what do you know about coach Lewis I mean I've talked him a couple of times he sounds like he's you know just a legit gonna be successful no other two ways about it football coach you know I think it's here for a long time I think it's fair that the fans you know we root for 12 and 0 but we understand that we're coming off 4 and 8 and even though you got the transfer portal and things can change you got a new quarterback you got a new system you got new players new coaches new everything and you know may take a little time but I don't see how he's not gonna do well like he just seems like automatic to me I'm buying what he's selling and I have always bought what he's sold it's not like he stood up there the opening press conference and I was kind of like you had a home run he had a home run in his opening press conference and you believe him and you could see it you could see the belief he has in everything that he's telling everyone he's embraced the city and the city's already embraced him so it's a great star for coach Lewis but ultimately law come down to what happens starting August 31st 5 o'clock snap dragon stadium snappy texas a&m commerce not the Aggies but September 7th see we're allowed to look ahead he's not yeah yeah second game is pretty intriguing Oregon State that is a good one on September the 7th they got crash last year now dragon state and they lost to them I'm sure yeah they'll they also go to Cal they go to central Michigan god I wish I could get in on that trip to Mount Pleasant Michigan you you really want to go nope but that's that's the inner out of conference schedule you also got one against Washington state and Washington state and Oregon state I honestly can't figure out what conference they're really in they are they say they're in the pack exactly there's not 12 teams though there's a pack to the pack to but yeah they asked text will host both of those schools this year all I know is that I just want the Aztecs to beat Washington state so badly why why particularly them Washington state fans seem to get in my dms a lot they do some reason I don't know there are Washington state fans I guess I do not know that I'm thinking particularly of two people that went to Washington state right now who could cause you havoc they time to time they make sure that I know that Washington state is a is a college that playsports for sure it's a university I'm I'm looking forward to the ACC match up with Cal are you is it in it is it in the Atlantic coast no it's going to be on the west coast I am so tired of Cal and stand for being in the ACC and they haven't even started being there yet check traffic more going and Chris on the way I welcome back at 424 for some scraping alongside today in the Odyssey Palace studios Tony Gwynn Jr. joined us earlier in the wake of Dylan Sees and his no-hitter today in Washington DC which Scrabby likes to point out should now be called Washington Dylan Sees I'm actually not the first one who came what was your other joke about that oh then that's where it de ceased that one is funny you like that one that one's good but I'm not the first one who did the Dylan Sees Dylan Sees with a no-hitter today struck out nine walk three faced only one batter over the minimum 114 pitches got it done had to talk Mike Shilt into getting the opportunity after seven innings and 94 pitches Shilt was ready to remove Sees Joe Musgrove among others helped talk Shilt out of it Joe Musgrove turned to Mike Shilt said it's got pretty good stuff Mike Shilt quipped later well if Joe said so it must have been true I you know Mike Shilt really is kind of trying to get off scott free here I don't I'm not sure what he's what's going on I don't know either but I don't I'm not gonna be critical but I just the notion that you were gonna take him out of the game so tired of that he was so dominant like what makes you think why would you even think about taking him out of the game if he was 114 pitches through seven innings then you take him out then I get it but at 94 you're going over to shake his hand and he's like wait a minute I'm at 94 I got this I don't even know how many pitching pitches the eighth inning was but it wasn't many it was nine it was nine okay so I so we got to 103 and then he threw 11 pitches in the ninth inning 114 is one more than his career high of 113 I don't think his arms gonna break or fall off it's managers it's not well it's not shilt only it's just baseball so wimpy the way they treat these pitchers they wonder why half of them are injured because you're so scared that they're gonna get injured we complain about them taking the pitchers out too early but then we complain about the pitchers when they're injured yes but they but that's not because they leave them in too long for years and years and years guys through 300 pitches 300 innings 250 innings struck out 300 batters pitch complete games 25 to 30 a year why were they able to do that then and they can't do it now because they throw harder now and they put too much stress on their arms I believe that I believe some time listen to me this guy is dangerous now is your opportunity to win a prize well i hope you know what you're in for chris versus the fans starts now on 97 three the fan all right it's been a couple days since we played this so let's go over the rules once again you have to make it through three questions each question is going to get more difficult as you go along if you get the question right you move on if you get it wrong and chris gets right you're eliminated but if chris gets it wrong and you move on to the next question or you win if you're a first time play uh thank you char is busy uh what are you doing something else over here great i'm so happy i'm paying absolutely no attention to anything you're saying if you're a first-time player then let us know before you get into the first question you'll get that question for free today and be ready to go keep the radio down i'm gonna say all right sure voice okay i i mean every time i every time i clear my throat you think it's a uh you know a federal disaster so i want to make sure that you're okay over here let me do an impression of chris when he when he something happens in the break everyone's like basically every day where he starts going i think i'm okay everybody you know you do that um maybe twice a day that actually happens today okay let's get to our first contestant today and the first person to call in was danny so we're gonna go with danny hello danny hello hello are you ready to play yes and i'm a first time all right that was a good play us so good to have you danny good luck to you hope uh we have a lot of people who seem to win their first time they do yeah because you get through the hardest question the first one yeah there we go uh which what picture has the most losses in the modern era yeah he said what picture that's the most losses in the modern era Patrick Corbin he's close don't kid yourself yeah he's hilarious and he added another one to the uh ledger today Patrick Corbin oh man poor guy yeah sai yung stay there danny i think it's sai yung in the okay what were you talking the modern era what would it when it when it saw young pitch in like 1900 oh what's the modern era uh i believe stat head or baseball reference was it like the sixties oh the sixties moving forward let me make sure of that that's not the way i'm sure yeah once again you've come up with another kind of bogus question here no i got this from baseball reference i don't care where you got it from i even started keeping links chris because i want to prove this to be real all right so you don't want so sai yung doesn't count then how about nolan ryan does that count you've already gotten it wrong but that is the correct answer all right well fine uh why don't you ask a totally different question because i don't think that question was sai yung is the all-time loss leader that's it he just is that's it yeah so i'm going to give danny why does danny have to suffer for this i'm not i'm giving him another chance otherwise you would have been eliminated if you would have asked the question correctly okay i did ask the question correctly hold on i'm still trying to figure out what the modern areas before we move on because that's how the modern era is not from the sixties okay okay let me okay whatever sorry danny i tried to get you on to question number three but we're going to have to go back i guess and ask a question number two again you're still there dude okay he's good here we go who won all-star game mvp this year they correct yes good play well good point good point good point oh my god i'm blanking um couldn't need an answer oh my gosh oh my god i didn't hear what he said he said oh my gosh well it wasn't patrick cordman uh jared Duran was the guy's name say it again jared Duran jared Duran from boston okay sorry danny his name's jaron good sorry danny good to talk to you you'll get another crack at it scravey you're crazy with your questions why am i crazy with my questions because siyung is the lost leader he's also the win leader i'm sorry it was expansion era is what it's called then call with that i okay you say the expansion era then i know it's from nineteen sixty one on if you say who's the all-time lost leader then i it's not from nineteen sixty one on so you have to make note of that i think i just died yeah what happened you get a question wrong if you're never mind we're moving on we're moving on i'm not going to entertain this i'm not going to entertain it good moving on here we go to our next contestant ray hello ray hello all right your plan player first employer another one wow that was pretty good wow all right here we go ray question number two i'm going to give you three players and you're going to tell me what team they played for together adrien belltray raul abonias jamey moir what team did they play for together i don't need a year just the team right there right there stay there mariners okay don't stay there sorry about that ray sorry ray he's got me in a mood now i'm in a competitive mood goodness you are so weird josh you're up next hello josh hello are you ready to play let's do it all right here we go how many minutes is an mba quarter josh 12 12 okay all right let's go to our next good question which mlb team has scored the most runs this year so far so far dillies the fillies just double checking before we get into trouble stay there hmm i'm gonna go yankies even though they've been slumping the yankies you say i am you say the yankies well that is it correct the Dodgers just took over unfortunately they've scored 516 runs this year to the Yankees 513 runs this year really yes you're actually going up to the second them yes up to the second good for you just because i don't want any funny business good for you rod you move on josh josh here we go josh question number three four podrace hitters have had six hits in a single game all you need to do is name two of them again four mark Loretta sorry sorry say again you said mark Loretta okay another one and louisa rise louisa rise stay there josh i'll say um tony gwen okay senior okay and jean richards me my two guesses right sorry josh sorry josh i didn't know if you know this one jean richards is definitely not the one i thought you would get a drink of solace yeah had six hits tony gwen had six hits jolefever jolefae oh oh pronounce lefae and we have bv re yep jolefae he had six hits and jean richards all remember jean richards from way back machine from the way way way sorry about that josh all right like i said i'm a little ultra competitive i don't know what scrabies test made me testy and i have to get a winner before because we have the Aztecs head coach chanluis coming up let's go to ec runny real quick hello ec runny hey how's it going i was actually calling in to comment on what we were talking about earlier i just want to say thank you to peter side of the real quick okay very good easy nice well cracked cindy crossby cindy crossby yes that is the correct answer all right second question four who is the first person to step foot on the moon arms wrong a nice job gave him two non-sports questions and he was up to the task yes many people think there has been no one that has stepped on all right conspiracy here we go easy money question number three since the year 2000 what former philly player has stolen the most bases across baseball oh he's playing the game christian you know i don't but i'm gonna guess Rawlins jimmy wow that was pretty incredible i have to say wow sorry easy money all right um we're either gonna have to revisit this or play again yeah we'll revisit yeah we're gonna have to play another day because we do have the Aztecs head coach john Lewis coming up at the top of the hour so we'll just uh we played that one for entertainment purposes and apparently we're gonna be fighting here in the break probably gonna throw down so keep the camera rolling don't miss anything Aztecs football coach john Lewis will join us at the top of this hour excited to talk some sports with him if you're just tuning in today you hardly missed anything oh yeah Dylan sees pitch to no hitter more to come on going in christ hey welcome back to going in christ 401 is the time we love spiro's Mediterranean cuisine around here this hour brought to you by spiro's authentic Mediterranean cuisine authentic greek coronado lohoya petco park for dining takeout options visit spiro's cuisine dot com uh chris here matt scravey there toniguan jr on a happy bus ride from washington dc to baltimore after the pottery is not only beat the washing nationals today three nothing but dylan cease no hit the nationals second no hitter in padre team history took joe muskrow 53 seasons to get the first took dylan cease a little more than three seasons to get the second it's good stuff it's definitely good stuff uh i just think that dylan cease we've been talking about for years because chris patik came close to no hitter dennell salamat came really close to no hitter who was the uh it was at jordan wiles who had like uh eight he was in the eighth with a no hitter petco and it ended up getting broken up but padre's had a lot of them early in their history as well dylan cease just seems like long time long time padre fans remember the names clay curby steve arlen these are guys that took no hitters into the ninth did not get it 53 years later finally muskrow have delivered the padre's were the last team in major league baseball to have a no hitter now they have two of the 306 that have been thrown in the history of the sport dylan cease struck out nine walk three today faced only one batter over the minimum pasan kim drove in all three runs with a bases loaded double following a one hour and 16 minute rain delay in the top of the first inning there was even some thought that maybe dylan cease might not even be able to start the game i mean the rain delay can totally mess up your warm-up schedule and all of that but i don't think there was a whole lot of discussion about that he went out to the mound and dominated all right uh we are uh we're excited here because uh joining us from the monazuma mesa shawn lewis is the Aztecs head football coach getting ready to start his first season uh on may 25th dylan cease pitched against the new york yankies at petko park why am i bringing this up because on that day shawn lewis throughout the first pitch at petko park coach do you do you remember coach what's up guys yeah i remember that night and i don't know if you saw what dylan cease did today with the no-hitter but uh everybody's no-no right yeah everyone in uh pocket history if i'm not mistaken there you are not mistaken coach you're all you're on you're on top of it and i know you're very busy you get a lot going on hey great to have you on the show we appreciate it and uh give us a little update i can't believe it's like just a tad more than a month before you get to play your first game and i imagine you're about ready to run through a wall right now yeah guys it's it's exciting i mean obviously there's been a ton of work that's been done by the staff and more importantly the kids you know ever since we we got rolling in in january here but the guys will finish up uh our eight-week summer conditioning phase tomorrow morning with with one last run with coach soble and then uh we'll have an extended weekend for a little bit of r&r to uh to get refreshed and get their minds right and we'll report to camp you know next week and then shoot a week from today we'll get we'll get rocking and rolling and maximize you know the month of august that we have uh to get right and to become a team and to be able to go out and execute and and defend our home turf on august 31st that's napdragon against a really good tech-of-saying and commerce team coach uh let me ask you now that you've had this job for a while and you look back at the first i don't know six months or so since you've been hired what about the job has been kind of what you expected and what about the job has maybe surprised you a little bit over the first six months something maybe you weren't expecting as much yeah i mean the the number one thing that that jumped to mind is the tremendous support of the administration and president daylatora and obviously how important athletics are to the fabric of our university i knew that was going to be the case but to have their support to have their encouragement and to have their backing with all the things that we feel like we need to do to consistently bring championships you know here home to the mace uh again that has been outstanding um you know the the thing that you know probably maybe uh was a bit of a surprise you know i i was probably pretty naive to think that hey come into san diego you know not a small college town maybe able to you know blend in a little bit more and kind of get lost on you know a little bit of downtime that that i have or that my staff has and it's just been amazing everywhere that we go you know with the support of the community man you're not blending in at all and the staff ain't blending in our players i'm blending in everyone is is dying to have a winner and to pack snap dragon and to have an exciting brand of football in all three phases so you know that was probably just a little bit more naive to take on my part uh thing that you know hey in the big city be able to escape a little bit but man that that is a welcome surprise and you know greatly greatly embrace that talking to the Aztecs football head coach sean lewis here on 97 through the fan and i got two questions for you one very serious question or they're not serious questions but one's kind of a joke question how much sleep do you get because you have incredible energy and i need to learn your secret if you're not getting that much sleep uh i'm at my best when i can get about six six and a half hours of sleep so typically i'm pretty regimented and by about 10 30 10 45 i'm down and then the alarm's going off about four 34 45 to go um you know but again we were just talking about it as a staff actually yesterday you know just find it a way they're unique to yourself to keep your energy up because we are in the energy transfer business right and we got to be full so we can pour into these kids you know so just hey whether that's daily reading so i enjoy doing that and enjoy working out like those are things that keep my battery up keep me you know energized and charged and it's pretty easy when you've got a great group of young men that you get to pour into and i see a fabulous spot like San Diego state to do it well thank you for entertaining that question coach Lewis my actual question is going to be this one the as chris said the season's almost here what are the most intriguing storylines for Aztecs fans to keep an eye on during preseason camp yeah i mean the two biggest things are you know how we continue to grow and improve and come together along both of our fronts the the offensive line and the defensive line i'm a big believer that the game is one there as much as the game has evolved and and all the changes and trends that are going on there's still a physicality that needs to be established along both the offensive line and the defensive line so you know excited for the new pieces that we've added excited for the guys who you know we're we're held out during spring practice because of injuries and things like that to have everyone up and available to really fortify and to build the physicality of our team along both lines um is going to be a great storyline to to pay close attention to and then the other piece is you know it doesn't matter what level of ball it is you need a quarterback and um you know we got a very deep quarterback room and the competition in there um is going to be fierce and looking forward to see who comes out of that quarterback competition you know as our starter and it's going to be our guys we go forward. Sean Lewis is with us and uh just a quick aside coach you mentioned you got up at 4 30 every day you have to get up at 4 30 every day if you're going to be a surf pro like you're heading towards you saw your saw your clip of your surfing but you know it's great to see you you know just jump into the San Diego uh into this community and i think you know the people have welcomed you because you have welcomed San Diego and uh yeah i think everybody really is excited to buy your presence in this team uh you look around the conference you're you're obviously new coach there's eight new coaches total in this conference in the in the mountain west i know you're still looking on opening day but as you look down the road a little bit is it a little difficult to get a read on exactly what we're up against this year or are you just going to focus on your club for now yeah i mean it's probably a little bit of coach speak but i'm always going to be more obsessed and about my club and that's always going to be top of mind but to your point yeah i mean it's a little bit of chasing ghosts in the unknown within the conference not only with the eight new coaches within the league but then also you know all the roster turnover that has taken place because of the new coaches and the transfer portal and the different pieces that have come and gone so yeah i think it's always critically important to you know again obsessed about you know your team and you know the impact that you can have within your own building and then regardless of who happens to be the the next great faithless opponent that's going to line up across from us you do your due diligence and you give them the the respect of obviously preparing for them throughout the course of the week but you know our plan to win is about the things that we can control and those are the people and what we do and how we do it within our building we're talking to Aztec's football head coach Sean Lewis here on 97-3 the fan and last one for me coach thank you so much for the time we had three of your players in studio a few weeks ago to kind of observe our radio show and just learn what it's all about learn kind of what the media ins and outs are and i think it's awesome that they did that and they have interest outside of football uh do you encourage guys to do things like that and look ahead to life after or outside football absolutely and i think that's one of the tremendous advantages of our great city right is where we have all these tremendous opportunities whether it's coming into the studio with you guys and and being able to learn that craft or one of the other numerous companies or relationships that we have within the community so that guys can always kind of be thinking about life after ball right i mean whether that is when they're done here on the mesa playing their last nap or it's after a great NFL career i mean at the end of the day you're going to look up and there's a whole you know another chapter that needs to be written and i want our guys you know to be elite in all things that they do and obviously to do a great job you know on the field but i want them to be defined just as football players right playing football is it's something that they do but i want them to be well rounded young men and uh you know just get out in the community as much as possible grow with shadow ships internships those opportunities they're second to none that again i feel very fortunate that we're able to provide because of support within our community it's second to none i can tell you uh right off the hand uh coach dale sean uh staly your new safety from kansas city uh if you need somebody to call out your defensive signals he's got a pretty good voice because he did he did a good job in studio and he was very inquisitive and uh you know very much fun to hang around they asked a ton of questions they were great they were really great it was a lot of fun having them in here last thing coaching again thanks so much to the time because you are so busy for sure but the fans want to know this i mean your four and eight last year etc this happened that but the the Aztecs had won the ten game the nine games have been to bowls what can you put any cap on how much of a turnaround you can have in one season what is your attitude and what is your what is your your whole theory is you kind of talk to the people around san diego and how much you'd like to get done here early yeah i mean the biggest thing for us is to maximize each and every single day you know we we have a a mantra that that we've installed and you know established since day one called be the alpha and we define that as improving and competing today right to stack all these plus one days and that's really what it's about right to be in the present to to improve and become a better version of yourself day in and day out compete against yourself compete against your brothers in the building so that iron sharpened iron as we go forward and i think it'd be unfair to the kids right now to say hey we're we're a bold team we're a six win team we're seven win team you know when i don't know by you know the end of camp and where we're going to be a month from now you know what that looks like you know i don't want to put a feeling on this on this crew i think we got a tremendous you know group of young men that are exceptional in all areas of their life i feel very fortunate with the staff we've been able to bring here and excited to do the work day in and day out and uh you know when we look up at the end of this thing i think we're going to like where we're at well we were we're really happy to have you coach and uh speaking for the rest of the Aztecs for life that are listening to the show uh that's me Aztec for life and uh really excited to have you personally look forward to going out and seeing your club play and uh and hopefully catching up with you during the season thanks for giving us an update we really appreciate the time yeah guys thanks for the opportunity go Aztec you betcha there you go it's john lewis a guy that uh a scrapie said uh six and a half hour sleep seems to do him quite well okay i thought it was going to be a fun question and it turned into you he's he's rock solid he's got everything mapped out this guy he does he does because i had a 10 45 i'm up with four 30 i originally thought like when i asked the question because college football coaches are probably up all night looking at film they go to sleep for a couple hours here and there but that that is interesting to me that he's he has to put himself in that space where he gets to sleep between those hours he is uh he's he sounds like a he sounds like a from central casting a great football coach he does that's just what he sounds like i mean there's no other yeah there's no other way to describe it he said what do you know about coach lewis i mean i've talked to him a couple of times he sounds like he's you know just a legit gonna be successful no other two ways about it football coach you know i think it's fair for a long time i think it's fair that the fans you know we root for 12 and 0 but we understand that we're coming off four and eight and even though you got to transfer portal and things can change you got a new quarterback you got a new system you got new players new coaches new everything and uh you know may take a little time but i don't see how he's not gonna do well like he just seems like automatic to me i i'm buying what he's selling and i have always bought what he's sold it's not like he stood up there the opening press conference and i was kind of like he had a home run he had a home run in his opening press conference and he believed him and you could see it you could see the belief he has in everything that he's telling everyone he's embraced the city and uh the city's already embraced him so uh it's a great star for coach lewis but ultimately we'll all come down to what happens starting august 31st five o'clock snap dragon stadium snappy texas a&m commerce not the agies but september 7th see we're allowed to look ahead he's not yeah yeah second game is pretty intriguing Oregon state that is a good one on september the seventh they got cressel at the end of the dragon state and they lost to them i'm sure yeah uh they also go to cal they go to central michigan god i wish i could get in on that trip to mount pleasant michigan you you really want to go nope uh but that's uh that's the inner out of conference schedule you also got one against washington state and washington state and Oregon state i honestly can't figure out what conference they're really in they are they say they're in the pack well exactly there's not 12 teams though there's the pack two the pack two but uh yeah they asked texel host both of those schools this year all i know is that i i just want the Aztecs to beat washington state so badly why why particularly them washington state fans seem to get in my dms a lot for some reason i don't know there are washington state fans i guess i do not know that i'm thinking particularly of two people that went to washington state right now who could cause you havoc they time to time they they make sure that i know that washington state is a is a college that playsports for sure it's a university i i'm i'm looking forward to the acc match up with cal are you is it in it is it in the Atlantic coast no it's going to be on the west coast i am so tired of cal and stan for being in the acc and they haven't even started being there yet check traffic more going and chris on the way i welcome back at four twenty four chris on scravey alongside today in the odyssey palace studios tony green jr joined us earlier in the wake of dylan seese and has no hitter today in uh washington dc which is scravey likes to point out should now be called washington dylan seese i'm actually not um the first one who came up what was your other joke about that oh then that's where de ceased that one is funny you like that one that one's good but i'm not the first one who did the dylan seese uh dylan seese with a uh no hitter today struck out nine walk three faced only one batter over the minimum 114 pitches got it done had to talk mike shilt into getting the opportunity after seven innings and 94 pitches shilt was ready to remove seese joe must grove among others help talk shilt out of it joe must grove turned to mike shilt said it's got pretty good stuff mike shilt quipped later well if joe said so it must have been true i i you know mike shilt really is kind of trying to get off scott free here i don't i i'm not sure what he's what's going on here i don't know either but i i don't i'm not gonna be critical but i just the notion that you were gonna take him out of the game so tired of that he was so dominant like what makes you think why would you even think about taking him out of the game if it was 114 pitches through seven innings then you take him out then i get it but at 94 you're going over to shake his hand and he's like wait a minute i'm at 94 i got this i don't even know how many pitching pitches the eighth inning was but it wasn't many it was nine it was nine okay so i helped so he got to 103 and then he threw 11 pitches in the ninth inning 114 is one more than his career high of 113 i don't think his arms gonna break or fall off it's managers it's not well it's not shilt only it's just baseball so wimpy the way they treat these pitchers the wonder why half of them are injured because you're so scared that they're gonna get injured we complain about them taking the pitchers out too early but then we complain about the pitchers when they're injured yes but they but that's not because they leave them in too long for years and years and years guy through 300 pitches 300 innings 250 innings struck out 300 batters pitch complete games 25 to 30 a year why were they able to do that then and they can't do it now because they throw harder now and they put too much stress on their arms i believe that i believe some of it some of it uh tweeted don or silo today my fifth no hitter oh man it never gets old man he's got to call five of them now that's royalty right there calling five dylan cease joe must grove and three while he was the voice of the red socks john lester clay buckholtz and hadeo nomo wow it goes way back hadeo nomo pitched a no hitter for the dodgers at course field oh yeah yeah yeah it's the only one he also pitched one for the red socks hadeo nomo threw two no hitters in his career the reason i mentioned don or silos tweet is because there was this from uncle teddy today tweeted ted lightener true i broadcast over 5,000 padre games wow zero no hitters by the boys anyone on to congratulate cease and franchise no number two etc but that is true i mean that's got to be infuriating to a certain extent but he sat there for many many bad years five thousand games no no no's for teddy ball game uh padre's get one today the second in franchise history all right we got a big five coming up there some other things going on in the world of sports five o'clock hour you kind of had something because we're going to stick around for a little extra time what was in the five o'clock hour anything i thought you had something no we decided to move it we moved whatever you had the five o'clock no we moved it to three four oh we did we can uh whoa we can talk about this off the air it's what we can do i don't know i kind of like letting people in behind the scenes to see how ridiculously bad we are at putting our show together sometimes i will say this we will take phone calls and you think so and uh we're going to hear from tony again because we heard from tony early in the show and we got to hear from tony after a no hitter so before that yes yes we do know that and then during this break i will talk scrappy out of what everything he just told you stick around more going and chris on the way i get mad that somebody driving along going wait a minute what was that i knew jones muskrotichino hitter what are you talking about dylan cease what yeah he puts you know hit her today welcome back good and chris at 436 on a thursday afternoon it was a rainy thursday in uh washington dc an hour and 16 minute rain delay in the top of the first inning was immediately followed by hosson kims bases clearing double that turned about to be the only three runs of the game padre's win it three nothing cease faces just one batter over the minimum strikes out nine walks three throws 114 pitches in the second no hitter in franchise history gwin and chris at 437 big five coming up in just a second before we get to that couple of quick baseball trade deadline notes and it'll be quick scrappy can see you already squirming over there not chicago white sock starter gare crochet says he wants a contract extension oh my god why'd you do that because this this little this whole thing has just bothered me this gare crochet story oh why don't you do that sound because i've finished the story well he says he wants a contract extension so if you're going to trade for him you're going to have to deal with a contract extension potentially as well yes that's going to make it much more difficult to trade for him yes he's also not pitching as many innings anymore all right i'm just updating people on the trade deadline and you're playing i'm over it sounds that are not necessarily wonderful you know what i like guys who say this get me off of the white socks and put me on a winning team i'll figure out the contract later yeah well guys don't say that uh one guy that's probably not going to be traded for ahead of tuesday's deadline now oak lanae's all-star reliever mason miller that's because he landed on the 15 day injured list fracture of his non pitching left pinky finger he broke it while preparing to exercise in the training room placed his hand on the training table in an awkward position are these guys made out of paper what is what do you mean he broke his peaky and he broke his hand broke his finger wow san francisco chronicle reports the miller was frustrated about something and pounded his hand on a table that makes a little more sense i hate to say it's a fun more sense god come on people your livelihood is in your hand pounding your hands on the table these guys make no sense although breaking your pinky would be pretty painful got to say yeah sorry not a smart move i guess it's a smart move if you want to stay with the a's because they're not going to be able to trade you now here's traffic and then today's big five it's that time of the show when we check on the latest in sports only the most important topics and questions are brought to light stop what you're doing and listen these news i'm gonna amaze you the one the only oh my god who the hell cash the big five starts now on ninety seven three the fan this hour in ninety seven three the fan is brought to you by the farmers dog fresh human grade dog food from a healthier weight to more energy when you switch your dog's food to the farmers dog the effects can feel magical what sorcery is this it's not at all chris it's just real food made for the health of dogs get 50% off your first box at the farmers dog dot com slash radio all right today if you get hungry late at night you can always have a snack you can have a snack according to Ben Higgins is reading of that commercial he eats it too sounds and he says he says they love it and i do too which will be said i don't think he meant it like that but we've kind of every time i hear it though i think of the same thing every time all right we're gonna talk pro far we're gonna talk college football and we are going to talk about Aaron Rogers and then finish up with something the raiders did that i think maybe is the dumbest thing they could have done but we're gonna start with jerks and pro far and he continues to deliver for the Padres and he keeps doing it in huge spots not only that he is doing it from both sides of the plate he doesn't have overwhelmingly eye-popping numbers for an mvp but he is delivering for the Padres and clutch moments and has done so all season long i'm not saying he is in the running for the mvp i'm saying this it's an extreme long shot but is he chris on the list of national league mvp candidates right now yeah he's on the list i mean he's gonna be getting some votes remember the top 10 people turn in a ballot with 10 names on it for mvp i don't think you can turn in the top 10 ballot in the national league to this point in the season there's not 10 guys and not include jerks and pro far oh yeah and i'm not just saying that from a padre perspective i'm saying that from a impact perspective we talked about this earlier there's been a little magic to this padre season now today that magic was spun by dylan seese is no hitter but go back to all of the magic moments of this season practically it's been pro far every time almost every time you're right he's really having a great year he was the wasn't he not the top vote getter in the outfielder did he get past in that i'm not category i know he started yeah i didn't remember where he finished but yeah i i you can't name 10 guys before you get to him on the mvp race so yes i agree with he's not a not going to win over otonnie skeins skeins some of these other you know hall of famers but uh pro far deserves you know quite a bit of good mention this year and he's going to get it um i agree with everything you said my definition of an nvp is if you take that person off of the team is the team going to be in a similar spot if you take otonnie off the dodgers they're not going to be in a similar spot but otonnie he's already got the numbers jerks and pro far if you take him off this team the pajamas are not going to be in the similar spot and jerks and pro far i think means more to this team than others due to their teams because throughout the year when they weren't hitting jerks and pro far was and he he's won quite a number of games for the pajamas this year i think you should be on the list for seven of the uh you know a phenomenal year would we call it a renaissance i just hope he never wakes up i hope he keeps it going he's got two months to go and let's just you know every time he turns around he seems to come through i mean yesterday was another one you know they're down three nothing early before they're done in the second inning he's got him back ahead four to three yep it's been there all year all right number four with college football starting very soon fans have been doing their thing and talking trash about rival teams well one post i saw today was about Ohio state sorry burritus fan if you're out there and their quote-unquote charm and soft schedule in 2024 if you i went and did this if you take all of their opponent win lost records of last year it comes out to 83 and 71 so a 54% winning percentage total across all the teams but with the expanded playoff in some conferences getting automatic spots do top teams need to play tough schedules anymore i'm up first the big 10 that's what i was looking for an sec already have guaranteed spots it's not about strength of schedule it seems like now so if you finish the top of your conference it doesn't matter who you play throughout the year because you'll get that automatic spot i think that this is uh it definitely is going to water down schedules a little bit and i think it's going to make costable worse so one thing there's a lot wrong with college football and one of them is the fact that the big 10 in the sec have so many so much power so many games that are huge in conference that the month of september is a waste of our time as fans ohio states a perfect example they're playing acron western michigan and marshall yeah does anybody care about any of those games acron was two and ten last year well i it doesn't even matter these are just total mismatches right these aren't even games so um you know the month of september is going to suffer and uh you're probably right i mean as long as ohio state finishes first second or third in the big ten they'll probably get into the playoff even though when you look at their schedule looks like three hard games this year at oragon in october at pen state in november and home to michigan to finish up otherwise the other nine or ten noio state games you can phone them in the northwestern games at rigley i will be checking out is there enough room in rigley for a football field i guess they did it that one time uh the chicago bearers used to play at rigley field so there is enough room there should be enough room this is like three feet between the end zone and the um wall yeah i've seen some highlights of gale shares running right into the brick wall after scoring a touchdown because it's right it was right there it's concerning number three now chris you have uh you grew up with the rose bull right i did the they are seeking actually to get out of the college football playoff semi-final rotation starting in 2026 according to cbs sports if bull officials are successful the granddaddy of them all will permanently move it to its traditional january first date some say the rose parade is really the event uh out of either if you choose the game or the rose parade the rose parade is where they want to keep that going in the same spot that was a really bad way of explaining that chris does the rose bull game still hold weight for you no i mean well a little but i mean the you know as soon as they took it away from the pack 10 versus the big 10 and they pack 12 versus the big 10 and that's been now 15 years or so as soon as they let teams like tcu and teams like um who else got in there some crazy teams for a couple of years i i just you know i kind of the rose bull just became any other game so but if they want to play it on january first and not be part of the rotation i think they're kind of you know cutting off their arm to nose despite their face yeah because if i'll do respect to my friends who work at the holiday bowl and that includes my wife bowl games outside of the playoff are just not going to be interesting anymore or as interesting you might be able to create a fun matchup here or there but it's all going to be about those 11 playoff games i i don't know why even the rose bull the rose bowl is going to be a game between nebraska and stanford but neither of them are in the playoff is it really going to matter so i think they got to be careful here yeah they do because rose bull is not going to carry enough weight on its own for me to tune in yeah it's like you got to be you got to understand the popularity of yourself basically like am i going to be able to survive if i don't have the college football playoff and the answer is no i i just everybody's focused on these games uh so i'm going to anger some people right now and say that i think the rose parade should be canceled forever the rose parade yeah i'm over it i i know people love parades i don't understand parades i've never been a parade person i'm going to ask you a question okay if you have to go to one thing and you can't say no okay you're going to go to the rose parade or go to the mason's yearly fireworks display oh downtown or something that you see 10 times a year i'm going to the fireworks yeah i don't really care about parades i really don't it's it's i probably should care about my go to the parade my go to the parade over the fireworks have you ever been in a parade maybe that's my problem i've never been in a parade why would you be well because you know literally what have you done what have you done uh to deserve being in a parade i see that good question that's a good question i haven't come up with an answer for that one very good number two all right so erin roger's finally spoke about why he missed the mandatory mini camp earlier in the summer and he said he missed it because he was going to egypt christ he explained i originally scheduled actually let me or he said i originally scheduled it based on the previous year's schedule believe by the ninth or tenth once i saw the schedule i started to move things around and it just didn't happen so he went on this vacation anyway here he is talking to the media yeah you know what i originally scheduled it based on the previous year's schedule which had us out i believe by the ninth or tenth so once i saw the schedule i was trying to move some things around i just didn't uh didn't happen yeah oh i've been i've been a fan for three decades ever since i was in a uh gifted and talented education class i don't know those are paid for or not but uh i was in it we studied uh mythology from egypt and greece and those are like my top two on the bucket list so um you know back in uh i've i've heard enough i've heard kidding me with this you have a question surrounding this i i do i do it's not really about uh erin roger's but it's more about the jets um okay i'll just ask question and move on because i don't need to say anything about erin roger's how many games do the jets win this year chris or i guess i'm up first i think they win seven they're seven and ten that's what they were last year i know and they didn't have erin roger's i feel like erin roger's is not going to be the same guy this year and he's probably going to prove me wrong because he is erin roger's and he can't play incredible football late in his life but i feel like last year missing that year and he's just a year older his body's gonna who knows i don't think they're going to be as good as they would have been last year chris i just think the whole thing is ridiculous that the guy had to go to egypt when you had mandatory camp and then tried to explain it away as if there was nothing mandatory about it even though every other player was there yeah i hate that every other player was i totally hate it yeah but really do it's like um that's what they signed on for well who are we talking about the other day signing on for something that you you're telling in the jet smell like you're telling me the jets are getting what they deserve yeah because they brought him in they moved heaven and earth to try to get him on the team he unfortunately got hurt in the first time i just am not a fan of people that are all about themselves and not the team they play for that really bothers me did he drop that he was in a special gifted class of course he did i love egypt too but erin roger's is so polarized and the guy hosted jeopardy for heaven's sake and he was pretty good at it i know you you did like him god all right i can't like this guy i hope the jets win they're gonna oh yeah got a winning game they got at least win nine they got to go over 500 nine oh yeah nine okay number one all right i just saw this on social media a little bit earlier but i retweeted it on 90 or on at matt scravey the raiders have apparently they they ordered to permit the frog puppet that you could put on your hand and they added some hair to it uh a fro and they're saying it's the patrick mohomes kermit the frog yeah they put a red jersey on it and helmet red helmet yeah yeah yeah they talk like him you know everybody talks like patrick mohomes yes and they're filming in and they're running around training camp pretending patrick mohomes is a stupid puppet okay on the scale of one to a hundred how stupid is this what's what is very stupid a hundred yes this is a 200 i i don't get it i don't get it either i'm glad the raiser raiders are having a good time this is a guy that continually beat your bleep in conference division play twice a year he's intended he's done it for like six straight years and he's going to do it two more times this year and just in case he's having a bad day he's going to be able to picture you running around with his dumb puppet and he's going to get fired up and beat you again he uh what am i missing scrappy i you're not missing anything i mean i couldn't coach in the nfl right now because i would tell my guys and you know what this is stupid and they'd look at me like i'm an idiot for even bringing it up something that antonio pierce just without really knowing anything about him he just doesn't seem like he would he would want his team doing this he was an nfl player he knows what motivation you can give someone and patreon football is the one sport where if you try harder you can do better yeah you know i think baseball if you try harder you don't always do better no you're right and basketball hockey the season's too long you have to pace yourself football you know patreon's going to be fired up he doesn't need a puppet to get him fired up but why even give him the chance yes agree i think the raiders are stupid for doing ten and two against the raiders and metric homes is and the chiefs have won eight straight afc west title but let me also say this even without the current the frog thing the raiders are generally stupid so it's a good point that's kind of just their dna that's a good point thank you scrappy coming up the happy hour it's actually a happy hour and a half we're extending things to six thirty today going and chris rolls on on the day that dylan cease pitches the second no-hitter in padre's history welcome back to going and chris on dylan cease's big day and no-hitter by the padre's right-hander today in washington dc the second in franchise history welcome back chris hello tony guin jr in washington dc he uh and jesse agler called the no-hitter earlier today right here on your home from padre baseball tony and the padre's on their way to baltimore but we did catch up with tony after the game to get some of his thoughts on cease's performance we will give you some of that interview in just a little bit here as we get underway now it is our final half hour together but then scrappy's going to take over with the scrappy chronicles from five thirty to six thirty today don't forget on the program tomorrow two o'clock sometime in the two o'clock hour anyway dylan cease will be a guest on the show tomorrow here's the thing that cease we've talked about his three-game stretch that he's on right now and in these three games 22 innings pitched he's allowed two hits struck out 30 no runs i mean it's really remarkable and david shonfield of espn put together a list today of some of the greatest three-game stretch performances in baseball history and i'm not going to read all of these because there's a lot of numbers but it's just the names that are on the list of people that have put together these kinds of three-game stretches sandy co-fax back in the sixties three consecutive three-hit shutouts with 26 strikeouts bob gibson in his 1968 record setting 1.12 season had three straight shutouts etc nolan ryan is on this list he had three straight shutouts once one of them was a 12 inning shutout try that today what yeah 12 innings for nolan ryan i mean when did the manager approach him to come out of that game like the 11th they never did i know i guess not he struck out 31 during that stretch of three straight shutouts Dwight gooden when his rookie season pitched a one hitter then came back with two straight 16 strikeout games that was a pretty good three-game stretch randy johnson roger clemmons is on this list Pedro martinez max Scherzer the last guy on this list is kershaw who in a three-game stretch in 2015 25 innings eight hits no runs dylan seizes three-game stretch compares favorably to all of these though all of yeah all the guys 22 innings two hits the only thing that keeps cease from being better is only 22 innings the rest of these guys are all over three games 27 innings because they pitch complete games you know we don't get complete games anymore but dylan seizes three-game stretch is historical in the game of baseball i mean it's just uh all the people you know i goes to mind all of you mentioned are not like they're all hall of famers exactly every single one of these guys except Dwight gooden and he's not not a hall of famer because of what he did i mean on the field in 84 mid-80s young guy Dwight gooden was a hall of fame pitcher he just didn't keep it going because the drugs won but the rest of these guys are all hall of fame come on that tells me that the the feat that he just did is is a legit feat it's legit we've seen something remarkable not not the no hitter it's been 306 of those but there's very few stretches like we've seen here from dylan sees right now in the last three games the braves guardians and nationals combined went two for 65 that's an astronomical astronomical number of at bats for two hits yeah he has a 0.41 whip over the last three games and that two for 65 batting average works out to 0.31 teams are hit no 31 against you that's pretty good my goodness i would be nervous if i was in the field you know in the ninth inning that would be that'd be tough you'd be nervous about oh oh making the play making the play just making sure i didn't give up the no hitter i will say this uh there was two really good plays in the game by the way one was in the fifth inning and a pop up to short center field boogards ran out over the shoulder tried to catch it it popped right out of his glove it was headed to the turf for a would have been called a hit because it was a bloop and there was jackson maryll to snatch it out of the air and catch it you know i mean you see that play about once every ten years that's true a pop up that officially is scored four to eight that's what that was and jackson maryll did that in your score book he had a look on his face like whoo got away with that one yeah they did and the other big play was boogards and the eighth inning who slid to his left to plug the hole between first and second got up drop the ball somehow recaptured it like in a panic and threw the first base in time to get the slow-footed keeper grooves lucky they had him lucky he was running yeah anybody else running would have beat that play absolutely so you need some luck to get a no-hitter dylan sees had a little of that today but he had a lot of uh just overpowering pitching there was one other thing that was pointed out today about dylan ceases no-hitter according to all the stat cast analytics that which are beyond my you know realm only three balls were even hit hard today two or ground balls the only ball hit out of the infield today that was hit remotely hard was the last out of the game cj abrams lining the right field that was the only ball all day that was even remotely squared up on the bat and hit you know rather well and that tells you exactly how good he was that's how good he was he only struck out nine but he had complete command of this game 114 pitches for the second no-hitter in pardry's history tony's thoughts about it coming up in about five or six minutes uh by the way next start for dylan sees man who's not who's gonna not want to be there on wednesday now i mean first of all the dodgers are coming in wednesday so that's worth it already yes but uh it'll be tighter glass now on wednesday against dylan cease huh a good as that sound that sounds amazing next wednesday i'm just looking at my calendar and see if i can go at about five forty next wednesday evening five forty yeah it's an earlier start hour early next wednesday all right don't miss it because cease glass now cease will be going to try to tie johnnie van der mirrors mark the impossible mark of two straight no-hitters that would be that would be awesome how about when you talk about unbreakable records johnnie van der mirror to break his record you'd have to throw three straight no-hitters that's pretty unbreakable that's pretty unbreakable uh like you said it was back in the day and maybe the lights went out well no the the thing the story on van der mirrors it was 1938 like i said i was there i was in high school at the time right near horse to school i wrote my yeah after the game after school i took a horse and carathed down to ebbets field but no it was like one of the two games in that no of that no hit stretch for van der mirror was the first night game ever played at ebbets field and a lot of people yeah i don't know who was there it's now eighty some years ago eighty six years ago but they said that nobody could see anything the lights were just you know breaking in so van der mirror you know took advantage of that certainly to get as i mean i can you know just like ten years ago it took 30 minutes for the lights to warm up at petco and all the other stadiums so i can imagine the lights in 1938 yeah probably weren't too good so someone just cranking it the entire time here's the pitch oh wait the cranks stopped in left field a foul ball sounded like a strike not sure all right anything else happening we did the big five you got all of that stuff football oh yes we can say that Adam major is going to start for the Padres tomorrow we should mention that yes the Padres did say that Adam and i know i tell you i don't want to wreck anybody's good mood it's not fair the kids doing everything he possibly can he's trying but so far it hasn't gone well he's going to face the uh league leading Baltimore Orioles tomorrow as the Padres have to finally use their number five starter trade deadline is Tuesday rj Anderson was on with us earlier from cbs sports and the one thing that sticks out for me on that interview is he we pulled cold water on my Tyler Anderson idea he did kind of not even kind of he said you're smoking his basically Tyler Anderson smoking mirrors he says the guy's not good look deeper into the analytics i'm like i don't look at that stuff the guy's been on two all-star teams in three years i feel he's good yeah yeah so you tell me he's not good okay but i don't know i think Tyler Anderson's pretty good and he's been pretty good and i i would you know be able to get him for a whole lot less than some of these other names you want me to go get what i try the would i'd rather have the smoking mirrors Tyler Anderson or rich hill smoking mirrors Tyler rich hill remember that is he still in the running for to go nowhere no no no i don't even think he's playing this year dick mountain dick mountain yes it's the greatest thing for him that's about yeah all right i'm not going to pick on rich hill right now i'm not picking on rich hill either yeah yeah you've been picking on people all day long i know the raiders have been picking on people all day long for picking on patrick my homes they were one of the ones um all right um the olympics start tomorrow is it you know that yeah tomorrow we get friday thursday yeah opening ceremonies or tomorrow okay lebron will be carrying the torch along with cocoa goth i didn't know that you had to have a nowadays i guess you have a man and a woman torch carrier or flag carrier or whatever it makes sense to me they have a lot of female athletes a lot of male athletes wait for the olympics to kick into gear i heard i was reading this morning that's some of the players on the lakers summer league team are a little a little angry at how brawny has been treated because what thing he's been getting preferential treatment yes they think that he he doesn't have to do interviews he doesn't have like the the PR staff kind of hovers around him so that people don't bother him um i don't say i don't think there's no way that wasn't gonna happen i don't think that's a brawny thing i i think it all to me goes back to the fact that i think lebron really really really really wanted to play on the same team with the sun and it really you think it makes me it makes me feel like how do you think that growing him into the fire how do you not know that okay i know that but it makes me think that lebron maybe wasn't thinking about brawny's best intentions because he's the one getting all the bad press everybody's talking about how bad brawny james is and how lucky he is that he got drafted by his dad i'd say that's true i don't think uh i don't think of his name wasn't james i don't think he would have been drafted i don't think there's any question he wouldn't have been drafted jalen brown was sitting courtside chris your guy not an nba player said jalen brown he didn't say that if you do you'll see i i do i do take issue with uh some of these people on social media who put up the plays and then they kind of break down plays and this dude was going in on brawny for not like cutting towards the basket it's like give him a little bit of a chance the dude is the first game of summer league and you're already ripping him apart summer league doesn't even matter i saw a tweet from our guy dylan iranandis today yeah why did say it said i'm trying to call it up right now but i'm not really great at doing that dylan iran i got my twitter open right here yeah it said something to the effect of if the lakers if it's just something to the effect of if lebron james can get us so here it is if lebron james can influence lakers the drafters son show here tani should be able to convince the dodgers to reinforce their roster there you go i mean i think so dylan iranandis is basically saying what we're all saying and that is of course dylan iranand is at the l_a_ times columnist yes but of course the lakers only drafted brawny because of lebron that's the way it went exactly okay we're ready here from tony after the break i got to hear some traffic first though thank you yeah april nine twenty twenty one that was the first no-hitter and pardry's history mark it down now july twenty fifth twenty twenty four the second no-hitter and pardry's history dylan cease-pitched it today in washington dc chrysello mr scrabie alongside we're going to hear what tony guin jr thought about today's no-hitter and calling the game with just the agler we'll hear that in just a moment i wanted to bring up something that i know you're going to like is that right yep of all the things that i've said today i feel most confident that you are going to like this note better than any other that i've given and i've given some big time notes today you like all kinds of no-hit you know factoids that you can't live without but here's the one you are going to like the most gravy okay july twenty fifth today's date this was the third no-hitter recorded on that date in baseball history the last one was by a guy also with san diego ties call hamels huh for the fillies pitched a no-hitter against the cubs thousand two thousand fifteen here's the part you're going to like the only other no-hitter ever thrown on july twenty fifth was thrown by providence gray right-hander old hoss brad horn i knew it i knew it was old old hoes in 1883 he no-hit the cleveland blues i knew you'd love that one uh if for everybody who doesn't know like six years ago we had a guy named thomas yes thomas andrew's our guy and he was giving us weird baseball facts odd thomas and he's giving us odd baseball facts and he said old hoes and he was hundred percent sure that he was saying instead of old hoss brad born he called him old hoes that was his then i get i still get people tagging me in like post about old hoes yep well there is old hoes shows up in the notes today he and call hamels the only others besides cease to ever pitch no-hitter's on july the twenty fifth tony gwen jr was there he got to see it he got to call it with jesse gagler and before they climbed on the bus to go to baltimore we caught up with him to get our partner's thoughts and of course we couldn't let the day go by without getting some thoughts from my partner tony gwen jr about the no-hitter thrown by dylan sees today and first thing i thought of tony was you got to be there this time you and you and jesse had to call the last no-hitter sitting in an empty press box at petko park yeah that was uh certainly a little bit different setting this time that uh looking at it through a tv stream uh being there alive and in person and that was pretty special i mean dylan had it going today as he has the last couple of starts i had a little better luck i mean i think the first couple last two starts they got hits pretty early so it kind of threw cold water on the whole idea of a no-hitter but that was not the case today some luck terrific play by jack sinner a stay with it play by bogey and uh the rest as they say is history you know tony uh you've been around the game you know as long as anyone and this is the 306th no-hitter in baseball history but i don't know what it is it's always exciting even if it happens like in a taranto detroit game people get excited about tuning in and watching a no-hitter when it happens for the team you follow it's it's extra special and you know i just i don't know what it is a no-hitter gets everybody going yeah i mean it's uh it's it's it's a pretty exciting 24 hours right i mean we'll get to celebrate this uh the weird thing about baseball is that there's another game in the bar and you're forced to kind of turn the page these guys will have to do the same thing especially going into a place like Baltimore where you know those guys who are on the verge of getting swept i don't know if that game ended up going their way or not today so if you know they're gonna have their hands full but for this 24-hour period all that's going to be talked about is Dillon season is Padre franchise and rightfully so i mean he was he was really brilliant today and it wasn't brilliant in the way that he normally is where he's you know can double digit guys i know he had nine but this was a much more efficient day of work for Dillon season were you surprised they left him in after the seventh inning no i wasn't i mean he had he had he had he had eighty i think eighty six pitches at the time um and you know it was he was efficient enough to where and he's one of the guys that goes longer you know 113 i think is his max when you get into that area i think uh coach is still comfortable and he was the right guy at the right time tony is in the dc with the padres uh on their way to Baltimore but checking in with us after the Dillon sees no hitter today and uh tony just tell us a little bit about your dealings with Dillon sees uh i don't know how often you've spent with him but we had him on our show it just seems like a really quiet reserved guy he didn't get too excited it didn't seem too excited in his post-game interviews but maybe it takes a calm heartbeat to finish off one of these things i mean i i haven't spent a ton of time with him i mean Dillon is kind of off with the the pitchers and and kind of in that mode a lot of time so i don't get to spend a lot of times with him um but i do get to watch him pitch every fifth day and when he's got that kind of stuff i mean that is uh in the realm of possibilities every time he saves steps on the mountain he and he has that kind of stuff um to have a no hitter in general you need some luck he got that luck today meryl being in the right place at the right time bogey stand with that play ruise not really running the hardest out of the box those are the kind of luck things you need to go your way in when you got a little luck and you're as good as Dillon sees uh this type of magic can happen it happened today for uh the Padres the second no hitter in franchise history hope you enjoyed a little extended Gwen and Chris today and you're probably wondering what do you mean extended you normally go to six o'clock well we were supposed to start early we didn't because of the rain delay but the whole no hitter we were anyway scrappy is going to keep it going though for you with the chronicles for another hour that's right i don't know what other you know factoids and notes you can come up with but i imagine you'll have your own spin on this whole thing you know i don't know either because we just talked about all of it but we just talked about it for four hours straight pretty much yeah i do have uh i want to talk about something that i don't give jerks and pro for enough credit for and i want to talk about something that jackson meryl does that i think is a good sign for the future all right well backing up zander bo guards was a good sign for today i'll tell you that but yes it was all right uh tomorrow i'm off so you can all celebrate that but dill and cease will be on with scrappy with tony tomorrow at two o'clock so don't miss that have a great weekend for me for tony and i'll talk to you all monday padre's three nats nothing no hitter number two i do it while have a snack according to Ben Higgins is reading of that commercial he eats it too sounds a little sound like he says he says they love it and I do too I don't think he meant it like that but we've kind of every time I hear it though I think of the same thing every time all right we're gonna talk pro far we're gonna talk college football and we are going to talk about Aaron Rodgers and then finish up with something the Raiders did that I think maybe is the dumbest thing they could have done but we're gonna start with jerks and pro far and he continues to deliver for the Padres and he keeps doing it in huge spots not only that he is doing it from both sides of the plate he doesn't have overwhelmingly eye-popping numbers for an MVP but he is delivering for the Padres and clutch moments and has done so all season long I'm not saying he's in in the running for the MVP I'm saying this it's an extreme long shot but is he Chris on the list of National League MVP candidates right now yeah he's on the list I mean he's gonna be getting some votes remember the top 10 people turn in a ballot with 10 names on it for MVP I don't think you can turn in the top 10 ballot in the national league to this point in the season there's not 10 guys and not include jerks and pro far oh yeah and I'm not just saying that from a Padre perspective I'm saying that from a impact perspective we talked about this earlier there's been a little magic to this Padre season now today that magic was spun by Dylan Sees is no hitter but go back to all of the magic moments of this season practically it's been pro far every time yeah almost every time you're right he's really having a great year he was that wasn't he not the top vote getter in the outfield or did he get past in that I'm not category I know he started yeah I didn't remember where he finished but yeah I you can't name 10 guys before you get to him on the MVP race so yes I agree with these not a not gonna win over Otani schemes schemes some of these other you know Hall of Famers but pro far deserves you know quite a bit of good mention this year and he's gonna get it um I agree with everything you said my definition of an MVP is if you take that person off of the team is the team going to be in a similar spot if you take Otani off the Dodgers they're not going to be in a similar spot but Otani he's already got the numbers jerks and pro far if you take him off this team the Padres are not going to be in a similar spot and jerks and pro far I think means more to this team than others due to their teams because throughout the year when they weren't hitting jerks and pro far was and he he's won quite a number of games for the Padres this year I think he should be on the list for seven a you know a phenomenal year would we call it renaissance I just hope he never wakes up I hope he keeps it going he's got two months to go and let's just you know every time he turns around he seems to come through I mean yesterday was another one you know they're down three nothing early before they're done in the second inning he's got him back ahead four to three yep it's been there all year all right number four with college football starting very soon fans have been doing their thing and talking trash about rival teams well one post I saw today was about Ohio State sorry burritos fan if you're out there and their quote unquote charm and soft schedule in 2024 if you I went and did this if you take all of their opponent win lost records of last year it comes out to 83 and 71 so a 54% winning percentage total across all the teams but with the expanded playoff and some conferences getting automatic spots do top teams need to play tough schedules anymore I'm up first the big 10 that's what I was looking for an SEC already have guaranteed spots it's not about strength of schedule it seems like now so if you finish the top of your conference it doesn't matter who you play throughout the year because you'll get that automatic spot I think that this is uh it definitely is going to water down schedules a little bit and I think it's going to make costable worse so one thing there's a lot wrong with college football and one of them is the fact that the big 10 in the SEC have so many so much power so many games that are huge in conference that the month of September is a waste of our time as fans Ohio State's a perfect example they're playing Akron western Michigan and Marshall yeah does anybody care about any of those games Akron was two and ten last year well I it doesn't even matter these are just total mismatches right these aren't even games so um you know the month of September is gonna suffer and you're probably right I mean as long as Ohio State finishes first second or third in the big 10 they'll probably get into the playoff even though when you look at their schedule looks like three hard games this year at Oregon in October at Penn State in November and home to Michigan to finish up otherwise the other nine or ten Ohio State games you can phone them in the Northwestern games at Riggly I will be checking out is there enough room and Riggly for a football field I guess they did it that one time the Chicago Bears used to play at Riggly Field so there is enough room there should be enough room this is like three feet between the end zone and the wall yeah I've seen some highlights of gale shares running right into the brick wall after scoring a touchdown because it's right it was right there it's concerning yeah number three now Chris do you have uh you grew up with the Rose Bowl right I did the they are seeking actually to get out of the college football playoff semi-final rotation starting in 2026 according to CVS sports if bowl officials are successful the granddaddy of them all will permanently move it to its traditional January 1st date some say the rose parade is really the event out of either if you choose the game or the rose parade the rose parade is where they want to keep that going in the same spot that was a really bad way of explaining that Chris does the rose bowl game still hold weight for you no I mean well a little but I mean you know as soon as they took it away from the pack 10 versus the big 10 and they can pack 12 versus the big 10 and that's been now 15 years or so soon as they let teams like tcu and teams like um who else got in there some crazy teams for a couple of years I just you know I kind of the rose bowl just became any other game so but if they want to play it on January 1st and not be part of the rotation I think they're kind of you know cutting off their arm to nose despite their face yeah because I'll do respect to my friends who work at the holiday bowl and that includes my wife bowl games outside of the playoff are just not going to be interesting anymore or as interesting you might be able to create a fun matchup here or there but it's all going to be about those 11 playoff games I don't know why even the rose bowl the rose bowl is going to be a game between Nebraska and Stanford but neither of them are in the playoff is it really going to matter so I think they got to be careful here yeah they do because the rose bowl is not going to carry enough weight on its own for me to tune in yeah it's like you got to be you got to understand the popularity of yourself basically like am I going to be able to survive if I don't have the college football playoff and the answer is no I just everybody's focused on these games so I'm gonna anger some people right now and say that I think the rose parade should be canceled forever the rose parade yeah I'm over it I know people love parades I don't understand parades I've never been a parade person I'm gonna ask you a question okay if you have to go to one thing you can't say no okay you're gonna go to the rose parade or go to the mason's yearly fireworks display oh downtown or something that you see 10 times a year I'm going to the fireworks yeah I don't really care about parades I really don't it's it's I probably should care about my go to the parade my go to the parade over the fireworks have you ever been in a parade maybe that's my problem one I've never been in a parade why would you be well because you know literally what have you done what have you done I deserve being in a parade I see the good question that's a good question I haven't come up with an answer for that one very good all right so Aaron Rodgers finally spoke about why he missed the mandatory mini camp earlier in the summer and he said he missed it because he was going to Egypt Chris he explained I originally scheduled actually let me or he said I originally scheduled it based on the previous year schedule believed by the ninth or tenth once I saw the schedule I started to move things around and it just didn't happen so he went on this vacation anyway here he is talking to the media yeah you know what I originally scheduled it based on the previous year schedule which had us out I believe by the ninth or tenth so once I saw the schedule I was trying to move some things around I just didn't didn't happen yeah oh I've been I've been a fan for three decades ever since I was in a gifted and talented education class I don't know those are paid for or not but I was in it we studied mythology from Egypt and Greece and those are like my top two on the bucket list so you know back in I've heard enough I'm kidding me with this you have a question surrounding this I do I do it's not really about Aaron Rodgers but it's more about the Jets um okay I'll just ask the question to move on because I don't want you to say anything about Aaron Rodgers how many games did the Jets win this year Chris or I guess I'm at first I think they went seven they're seven and ten that's what they were last year I know and they didn't have Aaron Rodgers I feel like Aaron Rodgers is not going to be the same guy this year and he's probably going to prove me wrong because he is Aaron Rodgers and he can't play incredible football late in his life but I feel like last year missing that year and he's just a year older his body is going to who knows I don't think they're going to be as good as they would have been last year Chris I just think the whole thing is ridiculous that the guy had to go to Egypt when he had mandatory camp and then tried to explain it away as if there was nothing mandatory about it even though every other player was there yeah I hate that every other player was I totally hate it yeah but really do it's like um that's what they signed on for well who are we talking about the other day signing on for something that you you're telling you the chance now like you're telling me the Jets are getting what they deserve yeah because they brought him in they moved heaven and earth to try to get him on the team he unfortunately got hurt in the first day I just am not a fan of people that are all about themselves and not the team they play for that really bothers me did he drop that he was in a special gifted class of course he did I love Egypt too but Aaron Rodgers is so polarized and the guy hosted jeopardy for heaven's sake and he was pretty good at it I know you you did like him god all right I can't like this guy I hope the Jets win they're gonna oh yeah got a winning game they got at least win nine they got a go over 500 nine oh yeah nine okay number one all right I just saw this on social media a little bit earlier but I retweeted it on 90 or on at Matt's gravy the raiders have apparently they they ordered to permit the frog puppet that you can put on your hand and they added some um hair to it uh a fro and they're saying it's the Patrick Mahomes Kermit the frog yeah they put a red jersey on and a helmet red helmet yeah yeah they talk like him you know everybody talks like Patrick Mahomes yes and they're filming in and they're running around training camp pretending Patrick Mahomes is a stupid puppet okay on the scale of one to a hundred how stupid is this what's what is very stupid a hundred yes this is a 200 I don't get it I don't get it either I'm glad the razor raiders are having a good time this is a guy that continually beat your bleep in conference division play twice a year he's intended he's done it for like six straight years and he's gonna do it two more times this year and just in case he's having a bad day he's gonna be able to picture you running around with his dumb puppet and he's gonna get fired up and beat you again he uh what am I missing Scrabie you're not missing anything I mean I couldn't coach in the NFL right now because I would tell my guys hey you know what this is stupid and they'd look at me like I'm an idiot for even bringing it up something that Antonio Pierce just without really knowing anything about him he just doesn't seem like he would he would want his team doing this he was an NFL player he knows what motivation you can get someone and the football is the one sport where if you try harder you can do better yeah you know I think baseball if you try harder you don't always do better no you're right and basketball and hockey the season is too long you have to pace yourself football you know Patrick mom's gonna be fired up he doesn't need a puppet to get him fired up but why even give him the chance yes agree I think the raiders are stupid for doing ten and two against the raiders and metric homes is and the chiefs have won eight straight AFC West titles but let me also say this even without the Kermit the Frog thing the raiders are generally stupid so it's a good point that's kind of just their DNA that's a good point thank you Scrabie coming up the happy hour it's actually a happy hour and a half we're extending things to 630 today when and Chris rolls on on the day that Dylan cease pitches the second no hitter in Padres history welcome back to going and Chris on Dylan ceases big day and no hitter by the Padres right-hander today in Washington DC the second in franchise history welcome back Chris Hello Tony Gwen junior in Washington DC he uh and Jesse Agler called to no hitter earlier today right here on your home for Padre baseball Tony and the Padres on their way to Baltimore but we did catch up with Tony after the game to get some of his thoughts on Cece's performance we will give you some of that interview in just a little bit here as we get underway now it is our final half hour together but then Scrabie's gonna take over with these Scrabie Chronicles from 5.30 to 6.30 today don't forget on the program tomorrow two o'clock sometime in the two o'clock hour anyway Dylan Cece will be a guest on the show tomorrow here's the thing that's Cece we've talked about is three games stretch that he's on right now and in these three games 22 innings pitched he's allowed two hits struck out 30 no runs I mean it's really remarkable and David Schoenfeld of ESPN put together a list today of some of the greatest three game stretch performances in baseball history and I'm not going to read all of these because there's a lot of numbers but it's just the names that are on the list of people that have put together these kinds of three game stretches sandy co-fax back in the 60s three consecutive three hit shutouts with 26 strikeouts Bob Gibson in his 1968 record setting 1.12 season had three straight shutouts etc Nolan Ryan is on this list he had three straight shutouts once one of them was a 12 inning shutout try that today what yeah 12 innings for Nolan Ryan I mean when did the manager approach him to come out of that game like the 11th they never did I know I guess not he struck out 31 during that stretch of three straight shutouts Dwight Gooden when his rookie season pitched a one hitter then came back with two straight 16 strikeout games that was a pretty good three game stretch Randy Johnson Roger Clemens is on this list Pedro Martinez Max Scherzer the last guy on this list is Kershaw who in a three game stretch in 2015 25 innings eight hits no runs Dylan Sees's three game stretch compares favorably to all of these though all of yeah all the guys 22 innings two hits the only thing that keeps Sees from being better is only 22 innings the rest of these guys are all over three games 27 innings because they pitch complete games you know we don't get complete games anymore but Dylan Sees's three game stretch is historical in the game of baseball I mean it's just uh all the people you mentioned the mind all the people you mentioned are not like they're all Hall of Famer exactly every single one of these guys except Dwight Gooden and he's not not a Hall of Famer because of what he did I mean on the field in 84 mid-80s young guy Dwight Gooden was a Hall of Fame pitcher he just didn't keep it going because the drugs won but the rest of these guys are all Hall of Fame come on that tells me that the the feet that he just did is is a legit feet it's legit we've seen something remarkable not not the no hitter it's been 306 of those but there's very few stretches like we've seen here from Dylan Sees right now in the last three games the Braves guardians and nationals combined went two for 65 that's an astronomical astronomical number of at bats for two hits yeah he has a 0.41 whip over the last three games and that two for 65 batting average works out to 0.31 teams are hitting 0.31 against you that's pretty good my goodness I would be nervous if I was in the field you know in the ninth inning that'd be that'd be tough you'd be nervous about no oh making the play making the play just making sure I didn't give up the no hitter I will say this there was two really good plays in the game by the way one was in the fifth inning and a pop up to short center field Bogart's ran out over the shoulder tried to catch it it popped right out of his glove it was headed to the turf for a would have been called a hit because it was a blue and there was Jackson Merrill to snatch it out of the air and catch it you don't I mean you see that play about once every 10 years that's true a pop up that officially is scored four to eight that's what that was and Jackson Merrill put that in his score book he had a look on his face like whoo got away with that one yeah they did and the other big play was Bogart's in the eighth inning who slid to his left to plug the hole between first and second got up drop the ball somehow recaptured it like in a panic and threw the first base in time to get the slow-footed keeper Ruiz lucky they had him lucky he was running yeah anybody else running would have beat that play absolutely so you need some luck to get a no hitter Dylan sees had a little of that today but he had a lot of uh just overpowering pitching there was one other thing that was pointed out today about Dylan ceases no hitter according to all the stat cast analytics that which are beyond my you know realm only three balls were even hit hard today two were ground balls the only ball hit out of the infield today that was hit remotely hard was the last out of the game CJ Abrams lining the right field that was the only ball all day that was even remotely squared up on the bat and hit you know rather well and that tells you exactly how good he was that's how good he was he only struck out nine but he had complete command of this game 114 pitches for the second no hitter in Padre's history Tony's thoughts about it coming up in about five or six minutes uh by the way next start for Dylan sees man who's not who's gonna not want to be there on Wednesday now I mean first of all the Dodgers are coming in Wednesday so that's worth it already yes but uh it'll be tighter glass now on Wednesday against Dylan sees huh how good does that sound that sounds amazing next Wednesday I'm just looking at my calendar and see if I can go at about 540 next Wednesday evening 540 that's an earlier start hour early next Wednesday all right don't miss it because sees glass now sees will be going to try to tie Johnny Vandermeer's mark the impossible mark of two straight no hitters that would be that would be awesome how about when you talk about unbreakable records Johnny Vandermeer to break his record you'd have to throw three straight no hitters that's pretty unbreakable that's pretty unbreakable uh like you said it was back in the day and maybe the lights went out well no the thing the story on Vandermeer it was 1938 like I said I was there I was in high school at the time right in your horse to school I rode my yeah after the game after school I took a horse and a carriage down to Ebbets Field but no it was like one of the two games in that no that no hit stretch for Vandermeer was the first night game ever played at Ebbets Field and a lot of people yeah I don't know who was there it's now 80 years ago 86 years ago but they said that nobody could see anything the lights were just you know breaking in so Vandermeer you know took advantage of that certainly to get his I mean I can you know just like 10 years ago it took 30 minutes for the lights to warm up at Petco and all the other stadiums so I can imagine the lights in 1938 yeah probably weren't too good so someone just cranking it the entire time here's the pitch oh wait the cranks stopped in left field a foul ball sounded like a strike not sure all right anything else happening we did the big five you got all of that stuff football oh yes we can say that Adam Major is going to start for the Padres we should mention that yes the Padres did say that Adam and I know I tell you I don't want to wreck anybody's good mood it's not fair kids doing everything he possibly can he's trying but so far it hasn't gone well he's going to face the league leading Baltimore Orioles tomorrow as the Padres have to finally use their number five starter trade deadline is Tuesday RJ Anderson was on with us earlier from CBS sports and the one thing that sticks out for me on that interview was he pulled cold water on my Tyler Anderson idea he did kind of not even kind of he said you're smoking his basically Tyler Anderson smoking mirrors he says the guy's not good look deeper into the analytics I'm like I don't look at that stuff the guy's been on two all-star teams in three years I feel he's good yeah yeah so you tell me he's not good okay but I don't know I think Tyler Anderson's pretty good and he's been pretty good and I would you know be able to get him for a whole lot less than some of these other names you want me to go get what I try the would I'd rather have the smoking mirrors Tyler Anderson or Rich Hill smoking mirrors Tyler Rich Hill remember that is he still in the running for to go no no no I don't even think he's playing this year dick mountain dick mountain yes it's the greatest thing for him that's about yeah all right I'm not going to pick on Rich Hill right now I'm not picking on Rich Hill either yeah yeah you've been picking on people all day long I know the Raiders have been picking on people all day long for picking on Patrick Mahomes they were one of the ones um all right um the Olympics start tomorrow is it you know that yeah tomorrow we get Friday Thursday yeah opening ceremonies are tomorrow okay LeBron will be carrying the torch along with Coco golf I didn't know that you had to have a nowadays I guess you have a man and a woman torch carrier or flag carrier whatever it makes sense to me they have a lot of female athletes a lot of male athletes wait for the Olympics to kick into gear I heard I was reading this morning that's some of the players on the Lakers summer league team are a little little angry at how Bronnie has been treated because he's been getting preferential treatment yes they think that he he doesn't have to do interviews he doesn't have like the the PR staff kind of hovers around him so that people don't bother him um I don't say I don't think there's no way that wasn't gonna happen I don't think that's a Bronnie thing I think I it all to me goes back to the fact that I think LeBron really really really really wanted to play on the same team with his son and it really you think it makes me it makes me feel like how do you think throwing him into the fire how do you not know that okay I know that but it makes me think that LeBron maybe wasn't thinking about Bronnie's best intentions because he's the one getting all the bad press everybody's talking about how bad Bronnie James is and how lucky he is that he got drafted by his dad I'd say that's true I don't think I don't think of his name wasn't James I don't think he would have been drafted I don't think there's any question he wouldn't have been drafted Jalen Brown was sitting courtside Chris your guy not an NBA player said Jalen Brown he did say that you do see I do have I do take issue with some of these people on social media who put up the plays and then they kind of break down plays and this dude was going in on Bronnie for not like cutting towards the basket it's like give him a little bit of a chance the dude is the first game of Summer League and you're already ripping him apart Summer League doesn't even matter I saw a tweet from our guy Dylan Hernandez today yeah why did say it said I'm trying to call it up right now but I'm not really great at doing that Dylan Hernandez I got my Twitter open right here yeah it said something to the effect of if the Lakers it it said something to the effect of if LeBron James can get his son oh here it is if LeBron James can influence Lakers to draft his son show here a time he should be able to convince the Dodgers to reinforce their roster there you go I mean I think so Dylan Hernandez is basically saying what we're all saying and that is of course Dylan Hernandez is the LA Times columnist yes but of course the Lakers only drafted Bronnie because of LeBron that's the way it went exactly okay we're ready here from Tony after the break I got to hear some traffic first though thank you April 9 2021 that was the first no hitter in Padre's history mark it down now july 25th 2024 the second no hitter in Padre's history Dylan ceased to today in Washington DC Chris Ello mr. Scrabie alongside we're gonna hear what Tony Gwen Jr thought about today is no hitter and calling the game with Jesse Agler we'll hear that in just a moment I wanted to bring up something that I know you're gonna like is that right yep of all the things that I've said today I feel most confident that you are gonna like this note better than any other that I've given and I've given some big time notes today you like all kinds of no hit you know factoids that you can't live without but here's the one you are gonna like the most Scrabie okay july 25th today's date this was the third no hitter recorded on that date in baseball history the last one was by a guy also with San Diego ties Cole Hamels for the Phillies pitched a no hitter against the Cubs thousand two thousand fifteen here's the part you're gonna like the only other no hitter ever thrown on july 25th was thrown by Providence Gray right hander old Hoss I knew it I knew it was old hoes old hoes in 1883 he no hit the Cleveland Blues I knew you'd love that one if for everybody who doesn't know like six years ago we had a guy named Thomas yes Thomas Andrews our guy and he was giving us weird baseball facts odd Thomas and he was giving us odd baseball facts and he said old hoes and he was 100% sure that he was saying instead of old Hoss Radborn he called him old hoes that was his then I get I still get people tagging me in like post about old hoes yeah well there he is old hoes shows up in the notes today he and Cole Hamels the only others besides cease to ever pitch no hitters on july the 25th Tony Gwen junior was there he got to see it he got to call it with Jesse Agler and before they climbed on the bus to go to Baltimore we caught up with him to get our partner's thoughts and of course we couldn't let the day go by without getting some thoughts from my partner Tony Gwen junior about the no hitter thrown by Dylan Seas today and first thing I thought of Tony was you got to be there this time you and you and Jesse had to call the last no hitter sitting in an empty press box at Petco park yeah that was uh certainly a little bit different setting this time not looking at it through a tv screen being there alive in a person and that was pretty special I mean Dylan had it going today as he has the last couple of starts I had a little better luck I mean I think the first couple last two starts they got hit pretty early so it kind of threw cold water on the whole idea of a no hitter but that was not the case today some luck terrific play by jack sinner a stay with it play by bogey and uh the rest as they say is history you know Tony uh you've been around the game you know as long as anyone and this is the 306th no hitter in baseball history but I don't know what it is it's always exciting even if it happens like in a Toronto Detroit game people get excited about tuning in and watching a no hitter when it happens for the team you follow it's it's extra special and you know I just I don't know what it is and no hitter gets everybody going yeah I mean it's uh it's it's it's a pretty exciting 24 hours right I mean we'll get to celebrate this uh the weird thing about baseball is that there's another game in the bar and you're forced to kind of turn the page these guys will have to do the same thing especially going into a place like Baltimore where you know those guys were on the verge of getting swept I don't know if that game ended up going their way or not today so if you know they're gonna have their hands full but for this 24-hour period all that's going to be talked about is Dillon season is Padre franchise and rightfully so I mean he was he was really brilliant today and it wasn't brilliant in the way that he normally is where he's you know can double digit guys I know he had nine but this was a much more efficient day of work for Dillon season were you surprised they left them in after the seventh inning no I wasn't I mean he had he had he had 80 think 86 pitches at the time and you know it was he was efficient enough to where and he's one of the guys that goes longer you know 113 I think is his max when you get into that area I think coach is still comfortable and he was the right guy at the right time Tony is in DC with the Padres on their way to Baltimore but checking in with us after the Dillon sees no hitter today and Tony just tell us a little bit about your dealings with Dillon sees I don't know how often you've spent with him but we had him on our show it just seems like a really quiet reserved guy he didn't get too excited it didn't seem too excited in his post-game interviews but maybe it takes a calm heartbeat to finish off one of these things I mean I haven't spent a ton of time with him I mean Dillon is kind of off with the the pitchers and and kind of in that mode a lot of time so I don't get to spend a lot of times with him but I do get to watch him pitch every fifth day and when he's got that kind of stuff I mean that is a in the realm of possibilities every time he steps on the mountain he and he has that kind of stuff to have a no hitter in general you need some luck he got that luck today Merrill being in the right place at the right time bogey stand with that play Ruiz not really running the hardest out of the box those are the kind of luck things you need to go your way in when you got a little luck and you're as good as Dillon sees this type of magic can happen it happened today for the Padres the second no hitter and franchise history hope you enjoyed a little extended Gwen and Chris today and you're probably wondering what do you mean extended you normally go to six o'clock well we were supposed to start early we didn't because of the rain delay but the whole no hitter we were anyway Scrabby is going to keep it going though for you with the chronicles for another hour that's right I don't know what other you know factoids and notes you can come up with but I imagine you'll have your own spin on this whole thing you know I don't know either because we just talked about all of it but we just talked about it for four hours straight pretty much yeah I do have uh I want to talk about something that I don't give jerks and pro for enough credit for and I want to talk about something that Jackson Merrill does that I think is a good sign for the future all right well backing up Zander Bogart's was a good sign for today I'll tell you that but yes it was all right uh tomorrow I'm off so you can all celebrate that but Dillon sees will be on with Scrabby with Tony tomorrow at two o'clock so don't miss that have a great weekend for me for Tony I'll talk to you on monday padre's three gnats nothing no hitter number two worried about letting someone else pick out the perfect April 9 2021 that was the first no-hitter in Padre's history market down now july 25th 2024 the second no-hitter in Padre's history Dylan cease-pitched it today in washington dc chrysello mr. scrabia
