Welcome in to Gwen and Chris, Tony Gwen Jr. Chrisello, Matt Scrabie. We're all here. The gang's all here. I am back from my short hiatus. Taking my family on a mini hot vacation. Where'd you go? Tom Springs. And I must be honest when I say this, my wife and I didn't really think that, think about summer as we made these plans. And we happened to go the first day on the hottest day in the city's history. Wow. 125. Oh my goodness. I'm talking about plastic cups melting on top of each other. But we thugged it out, man. We had ourselves a good time for four days. It's just myself, my wife and kids. Good. And so it was a nice reset. Didn't dawn on you that you found a hotel room really easily. Like there was no line to get hotel rooms. And every dinner reservation you made, well, yes, sir. We do have a table available at six o'clock and seven and eight if you'd like. Clearly it should have. Yeah, didn't register. Didn't register. Well, you know, you know, it's hot when, you know, the day season of cars just feeling good. All of a sudden, you got to like, you keep finding yourself turning it further, higher and higher. Yeah, colder and colder, right? Exactly. Yeah, that's, it's, you know, Palm Springs is crazy. I mean, to me, that's warm enough to where sometimes even the swimming pool isn't refreshing. They had a couple pools. Yeah, one of the pools was just hot. And it was like, I don't want to be in a hot pool, right? I'm trying to be in a spa right there. Yeah, it's no good. Were you in Palm Springs or were you like in Laquinto area? Because my grandparents had a house in Laquinto. I was in Palm desert. Okay. All right. Yeah. Yes, desert. You're literally in a desert. Yes. But I tried to golf one day in 120 and I. And so wait. So apparently there's a show that my wife and my daughter watch that takes place out in Palm desert. And they made me drive them over to this area so she can take, you know, do her little Instagram thing. You know, boy, what show is this? I got it. I got it. You know what? I'm a text, my daughter right now. And I'll tell you what it takes me back. That's hilarious. I can imagine you being like, where am I going? Yeah, exactly. You could imagine. I, but I was a trooper. I was like, yeah, so we're on vacation. So anything you guys want to do, I'm down. And so we drove over there and she got out, took her little pictures and then we moseied on back to the pool. To the, to the colder pool. Yeah, that's, that's a tough, that's a tough assignment. We went to Palm Springs. I mean, I've been there a gazillion times. My grandparents lived there when I was a kid. So I, I would, but we would never go obviously in the month of July. But I did do a July trip to Palm Springs during the, the COVID season. Oh, yeah. Just because there was just, we had to get away, you know, and do something. And we actually did try to golf out there one day during the COVID. And it was ridiculously stupid. Chris always calls it the COVID. Yeah. I don't, I don't even like to think back on it, but you know, I do remember we did a Palm Springs trip just to get out of out of town for a few days. But yeah, yeah, that's, that's tough. That you, you definitely survived. You get a lot of, a lot of brownie points for this one, Tony. Should have helped you. I hope so. I hope that's good for God and pretty quickly. But now nonetheless, it was a, it was a needed little break. And now get back to, to work and watching the pods who I followed, I watched every game. Tell you the first two were pretty freaking amazing. It was good, some good action there. Although they lost the second one. I actually, if I'm being honest, I turned off the first one. I was like, okay, we got this one. So did I. We got this one locked up. And then next time I looked at my phone like two hours a year, I was like trying to, I was, I was genuinely confused. I was like, like, what, how did this? And then, you know, obviously I start to get back on my MLB app, me and Trey start to read. We don't need, we watch it, the condensed version. And we see how it unfold, Manny, with his heroics at the end, get the Padres the first win of that series. And then they battled back in that second one, but it looked like they just could hang on. And the third one kind of got away from it. It looked like a couple of things, you know, Tony, I think first of all, you know, the win Friday night was just yet another thrilling win in what I think is becoming a really fun season. And we've talked about that a little bit last week. I mean, the season's just getting fun. I mean, they're winning at so many of these games. You know, one's more exciting than the next. I mean, you get the pro far walk off game, followed a couple of days later by the, you know, pro far incident and the Manny home run and the pro far grand slam game. And you think that's one of the best games you've ever seen. And then Friday night happens. And, you know, of all things, Robert Suarez finally has a hiccup game, you know, which is to be, honestly, is to be expected. Yeah, it's almost impossible to just expect a guy to, you know, retire the side in order every single time out this season. But the time he doesn't do it, pro far rescues him. I mean, pro far, I know Manny's going to be the one we all remember, but, you know, pro far tied it and have to tie it first. And, you know, he is having, I don't, I'm going to keep saying this because I believe it. I don't think he's the MVP of the National League. Don't get me wrong. And, you know, Tommy's not going anywhere. But he's done so many MVP type things, Tony. We've seen a lot of, you know, seasons where a guy just is magic and helps his team win. And pro far is doing it as much, if not more than any player in baseball this year. So, yeah, he's definitely been the best Padres player. And it's, and it's really not close when you, when you start to add up all those things you just mentioned, and you look at his overall numbers on the season. It's, he's been the Padres best player yet teams will still walk whoever's in front of them, whether it be a rise or whoever it may be to face him. And he keeps coming through in those big spots. And, you know, it looks different sometimes. Sometimes it's come through as a walk, an eight, nine pitch walk that gets things rolling or gets things started. He's been amazing, man. I don't know that there's a, I can think of a, of a more recent deserving All-Star and a starter who, who, you know, not a reserve, a guy who's going to start the All-Star game. I don't know if I can think of one who's more deserving than him in recent years. Yeah, there's a lot of good stories in the All-Star game this year. And every team probably thinks their guy is the best story. But guess what? Our guy is the best story. He just is. He's just the best story in the All-Star game this year. He's 31 years old. He's been toiling at this craft successfully and unsuccessfully for 12 years. And now it's all just happened for him. To me, that's why, that's why he is the best story. Because he's not, he, he's no longer an up-and-coming guy like a Jackson Meryl who got on, got into the All-Star game or like a Ellie Della Cruz, he's up and comers. He's a dude who, you know, was a top prospect at one time, kind of fell off of that. And, you know, was starting to, to, you know, be one of those guys that bounces around from team to team. But, you know, whether it started here or not, because I think it seems like his fortunes has started to change when he became a Padre, even though he went to Colorado for that brief hiatus. He is just, he's just, he's just so much fun to watch and so much fun to root for. Yeah. And I know it's on a lot of people's minds, so I'll bring it up and get your thoughts. But I mean, what do you think they should do here between now and the end of the season with Profar? Because it just seems like it's a match made in heaven. Padre's, Profar, Profar, Padre's, but he's got to get some sort of contract for next season. And yeah, I know that, you know, good business is, this is a tough one because the Padres have already committed so much money to so many other guys. And I know they, they want to keep Profar badly. And I'm sure he wants to come back badly, but I'm, I'm sure he wants to come back. He's, he says he loves it here. He said, this place makes him feel like home. Yeah. That being said, the finances is still the finances. There's nothing's changed since the season started. Right. And so, I mean, I think what I, what I think should happen and what is likely to happen or to do. I think, of course, they should extend them and bring him back. He just, he, he just, to me, he feels like a Padre. Not even just this year alone, just the, the previous years he's had and the success he's had in those years in a Padre uniform, he just, it feels right. I don't know what the number is, but I think the reality is they'll probably have to write this out to the end of the year and then address it at the end of the season if they can. Because, you know, based on what we've read, what we've heard, what we, what we know, an extension depending on, I mean, what kind of, what is, how much more does this, the value does this add to pro far, having this season. Let's assume he gets through the whole season and he does a full season worth of what he's doing right now. Where does that put him? Yeah. It puts him in really good company when it puts him in a high tax bracket is where it puts him. You and we just don't think we don't have a tight tax bracket spot available. You would think, but remember, remember the year he came off of when he went into free agency. It was at the time, I think a career year for him or one of his better seasons and yet he had to settle for that Rocky's deal that he got, which was a one year deal. So maybe the market that I hope that's is not the case for Jared. And I hope he gets the bag and is able to do whatever it is that he wants to do. He deserves it. But maybe the market will be of help to the Padres from that standpoint. If they, if and when that time comes at the end of the year. Yeah, it's, it'll be interesting, but it's going to, I mean, his price tag is going to go way up when Rob Manfred is walking around with the microphone and the World Series trophy and going German, I mean, if that is the case, the Padres to the first championship. If he leaves the Padres to a championship, it would be really hard to let him walk out the door at that point. That would be extremely hard. Well, we can dream about it. And he's, he's given us reason to dream. By the way, he's performed with our fans throughout the postseason with a great performance. I want to just drop the entire conversation every time it takes too long because he's drunk. He's not drunk. I know. I titled that drunk Rob Manfred. That is so funny. The other thing to speaking of dreaming of Tony and going back to Saturday night's game a little bit when they were down seven to four and then they come up in the bottom of the 10th inning and they go single double and runs in and the tying runs are on base and then, you know, works out to where Higash Yoka comes up with the bases loaded at the end. I was honestly thinking he was probably going to hit a grand slam because that's just the way the season's been going. And you know, this is the one time he fly, you know, a fly out because it's not easy to just get a walk off on command like that. But the Padres have had so many of them that it wouldn't have surprised me if he would have done something dramatic there. And, you know, unfortunately it didn't work out and now they have a little losing streak to deal with and they have a tough customer to deal with tonight because Logan Gilbert don't be fooled out there by the record. He's five and five. But in 18 starts this year, he's had 14 quality starts. That is one of the highest percentages in all baseball. So he's almost guaranteed based on that to give Seattle six, seven innings, two or three runs, which means maser and the Padres are going to have to counter. So I'll read you a note from the Mariners notes. It's just titled the Friars. It says, it just starts with has it's referring to Logan, Logan Gilbert has made two starts in both of the last two seasons against the Padres. And each of the four starts, he has gone at least five innings and allowed one or less earned runs. He said he says career high with 12 strikeouts last year on August 8th against the Padres at T mobile. Padres hitters that have faced Gilbert previously are batting 146 seven for 48 against them one home run 11 strikeouts. Now that being said, this and I only reason why I brought this up was because I plan to use it today when I'm doing TV on the TV side. Okay. This is a different offense, a different style offense than Logan has faced in the last really all four starts that he's made against the Padres. It's a different, different approach to hitting. And so I'm, I'm excited about the matchup today because I want to see because Logan Gilbert has shoved against us the past four starts. It hasn't been a fun game to watch. I would remember the one in Seattle didn't go well. That being said, I think this is a different offense and I'm interested to see what kind of how much pressure they can put on Gilbert when because when this offense is going the way we've seen it go, it's taxing. Well, it'll be the challenge at hand tonight. I think it'd be a good game. Yeah, I know everybody's already. We don't have to hype it, Tony. You don't have to hype any game between the Padres and the Mariners, the geographic rival, man. Come on, man. Oh, man. Yeah. This is, it speaks for itself. USC UCLA, you know, Red Sox, Yankees, Mariners, Padres goes right there with all the rest of them. So the hype is there. It's real. All right. Let's get to break. When we return, Zener Bogart's could be on his way back and pretty shortly. We'll explain it on the other side more going to Chris. Welcome back to 21 is the time Chris. Hello here. Tony Gwen Jr. there. He's at Petco Park tonight, Padres, Mariners. And everybody calls it the Eddie Vedder Cup, but I can't get behind that. Nothing against Eddie Vedder. I just don't get the whole Mariner, Padres rivalry. I think Chris, no, Chris, no one. All right. Thank you. You're not alone. Like the players don't understand it, right? I mean, everybody's like, Oh, you're playing the Padres. So, you know, we almost had to just, we almost just had to pretend that it was real because we were left with it. That's the only thing we got. Yeah. Right. I mean, I'll give you the fact that they share a spring training complex. But that's to me, that's it. That's as far as it goes. They're both in the Pacific time zone, but that's over the Rockies and Diamondbacks. That doesn't make them rivals. No, better rivals. Yes. Before we go too much further, shout out to Ashley out there who was on the, on the, on the chat, the YouTube YouTube chat. If you're not watching on the show and you, you'd like to go to YouTube search 97 through the fan, you can watch. But Ashley is a transplanted sports fan to go back to Detroit. Yeah, back to Detroit. Oh, she had to go back to Detroit, transplant from here to Detroit and wants to catch up and keep up. So, Ashley, thank you for, you know, joining us out in San Diego. We miss you, but we'll give you all the lion's coverage we can once we get to that point. Yeah. Will we? No. Yes. Because I like, I like her head coach. We love the kneecap cannibal around here. All right. Yes. We should, we should do, we'll do our very best. We'll get consistent Detroit coverage, but you know, every week they play, we'll talk about them at that. You know, welcome to one in Chris before we get to anything else. The lions taking on the Seahawks this week. We have it here a couple of years ago, whether the Panthers or somebody. I think if I tried to follow somebody, I did that a long time ago. On another station in a, in a galaxy far away, the Padres were having a really, really bad year. And I asked the fans if we should adopt a team and who to vote for. And they voted for the Rays. And we got their play by play guy on and we made him kind of a regular guest and we follow. And it was the year they went to the World Series against the Phillies. Oh, and everybody kind of got in on it. It was kind of interesting. Actually, kind of interesting. Fortunately, we don't need to do that because our Padres are relevant enough on their own. You know, I will say this one thing before we move on from Ashley's comment. Yeah, we don't normally talk about teams that lose double digit point leads in the NFC championship. Since you brought it up. That was a cold blooded strike. I'm glad you brought it up. You know, I was thinking about this today. It came up. I was at the barbershop and usually where these topics come up, is that the barbershop? It cracks me up that he goes to the barbershop. Can I get it? I get it. It's okay. It's a nice story. It's more about community than anything. Listen, listen, my head has to, it can't take too much of me shaving it without it inflaming with all kinds of hair bumps. So I go to a professional. Okay. Most of the time. Fair enough. So I was thinking about this, thanks, Greg. Uh-oh. Brock Pert. Yes. He's going to need to get paid here and what, another year, you think? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. What's to stop your head coach from thinking, huh, I drafted a quarterback at the last pick. Why can't I do it again? There's nothing to stop from doing that. And you know what that means? That is where you get the, you know what, Brock, this is what we're going to offer you. And this is our final offer because we can go draft another quarterback. We did it with you. We turned you into a possible MVP candidate. So we're not going to offer you. So you're selling me, Coach Shanahan. So you're selling, you're selling me, the 49ers should offer Brock Pertie like the minimum when it's his turn. I'm just saying they should be able to shave corners a little bit. They got the leverage at this point. Here's what I know about Kyle Shanahan. And Tony, you're not wrong. Kyle Shanahan did something like trade every single draft pick they had for Trey Lance and said he was the next coming of the best quarterback of all time. He did. And then he got rid of him faster than he could ever get rid of him for a six-round pick. So Kyle Shanahan will bury that knife in your back when he doesn't need you. I'm just saying everybody got to get paid at some point. And we know once the quarterback gets paid, team suffers, unless you were Tom Brady giving up boatloads of cash, the rest of the team is going to suffer. Brock Pertie's a good guy though. I think he would take veteran minimum for us. We're about to find out how good of a guy Brock Pertie is. Sure, I promise you. Sure. I digress. No, no, you didn't digress at all. We're always, we may not be always open for Lions talk, but we are always open for 49er talk. All right, Xander Bogart's the latest. Doesn't sound like it's going to be too much longer before Xander is back. Scrabby, do you have an update for us? Yeah, I got a little update. All right. Courtney Kevin, AC, the pure Xander Bogart remains on track to return for the final series before the all-star break. Really? This weekend. Yes, we'll likely face live pitching. Ironically, or maybe not, he got hurt against the Braves. That's who will be in town when he comes back this weekend. Now, he's supposed to face live pitching here at Peko Park and playing a game or two, just up the street at Lake Elsonham. So, if it all goes well, Friday will be his return day. Well, you know, we shouldn't be happy about that. Shouldn't we? I mean, I only say it that way because I know there's a bunch of grumbling fans out there. Well, here's the question on Friday. You know, playing everything that negative that's ever happened on the Padres on Xander Bogart's, including, you know, the fact that the team had to, you know, move from Qualcomm Stadium somehow was this far. Here's the question from Friday, because he's coming back. As we said, where does Donovan Slano go? Where does David Peralta go? Where does he fit in this lineup? Because you're not going to leave him on the bench. You're going to put him back in there. And Slano's hitting so well. Chris said Slano's the odd man out of everything. So he's going to go back to being a bench piece of pinch hitter. He's going to serve the role that basically Tyler Wade serves from the left right-handed side. You know, there's going to be up because the tough part is they got a boatload. All right, when I say a boatload, they got a boatload of infielders. And so, Krohn slides back to first, I assume. Arise now is your DH. You got Bogey at second. You got Kim at short. You got Manny. Now Manny's going to need some days off his feet at third. What happens then? I think Arise probably gets some, puts some play on the, on the infield. Left-handed pitching, they may give, you know, Krohn a day off here and there. But there ain't going to be a lot of space. It's going to take really a DH spot, somebody at first getting a day off or Manny getting a day off for Slano to be in the lineup. I would also, you know, think it's not impossible for at this point because he really hasn't had a light, you know, light up the night season for Hassan Kim to get a day off for two. Oh, yeah. And put Bogart to shortstop. Is that going to cause a problem since they had to move from short to second? Is he going to be, you know, is there going to be a seamless thing for him to go back to shortstop or would they put Jake at shortstop and rest? Hassan Kim? They got options that short. I mean, Jake can play it. Bogey can play it. Jackson Merrill can play it for him this time. These junior can play it. They got a boatload of options for being on it. Speaking of which, I think the live hitting is about to take place here shortly. Oh, it's Andrew. Yeah, Andrew's got the helmet on. He's got the bat on. I'm trying to figure out who's throwing. I am. Oh, somebody's getting loose down in the, he might have brought somebody. Huh. Some, some, some of the minor. So how does a live inning work, Tony? Real quick. They set the cage up the shell, but they don't have it over. They kind of have it in the background and catch any balls that may get away. Sometimes the pin, I mean, most of the pitchers hate to have that L screen there if they're going to have live pitching. So doesn't look like they're going to have it right now is going to be live pitching. You're just not running. Everything is real. No umpires. No running. That's where they should have all of us go down there and call balls and strike. But wait a second, but, but Zander's the batter for every spot in the lineup. Yes. Got it. Okay. So he gets, he gets to make three outs, basically. I don't even, they, they probably will take it in at bats. So, you know, having it bat, take a break, having it bat, take it, because you got to remember the pitchers, you know, they can't have them out there just being a human pitching machine. He actually got to take his time. They got to treat it like a, the treated like as close to as, as simulated as possible. There you go. There you go. The very latest when we come back, we'll slip a pottery lineup in for you. And we'll talk about the rival mariners, a little bit more in depth, Ryan Divish, Seattle times, stops by for a visit as Gwen and Chris rolls on. What kind of programs does this school have? Brian Divish Seattle Times will join us shortly. Break down this mariner team that at one point seemed to be running away with the American League West. That is no longer the case. The Houston Astros have, I wouldn't even say they've caught fire. There are two games above 500 and they've closed that at one point. I think it was a 10 game lead. Yeah, down to two. Mariners were 44 and 31 Tony on June 18th. So that's less than a month ago. Since then, the Mariners have gone five and 12 and that has opened the door for the Astros to get back in the running. A lot of people think the Mariners are going to really be kicking themselves when it's all said and done because they had a chance to kind of put Houston high, right? But yeah, they didn't quite do it. This is a team that last year was 88 and 74. They were 14 games over 500 not in the playoffs. The Arizona Diamondbacks were like four games over 500 and went to the World Series. Like that's not fair, but that's how it works out sometimes. So the irony though is that the Diamondbacks team did end up losing to the team that beat out the Mariners in that division in the Texas Rangers, but you're right. I think most people have seen the Mariners over the last three years realize it's a very good team, but also realizes they haven't done anything to prove that you should believe them when they get into a league because I don't know that even as they were 10 games up, anybody actually counted the Astros out. And here we are about to hit the break and the Astros are two games behind and they got a few more matchups. See, you know, this, sorry, I'm going to digress a little bit here. This is why I like the heavy-handed scheduling of your division versus what we have now. The Padres don't play the Dodgers again at home. All season, their next time they play the Dodgers will be in September at LA. Like that's crazy to me. Yeah, you're seven, eight games out. You don't have a chance for one of the series in the middle of the summer to, you know, make up a bunch of ground. Yeah, or vice versa. The others can put you away, but yes, there's not enough inter-division games anymore because of this schedule agreed, but there are still plenty of games against the Mariners. So we got that, which is a perfect segue into our guests. Ryan Davis, Seattle Times joins us here on Gwen and Chris. Ryan, how's your day? How you enjoying San Diego? Oh, loving it. You know, back home in Seattle, it's 95 and they don't handle heat there. Well, they don't handle the well and they don't handle excessive heat. A lot of places don't have air conditioning up there. So, you know, I'm enjoying my Marriott lifestyle and this nice 80 degree weather here in San Diego. Like, I don't know why anybody would want me. Yeah, listen, the Marriott lifestyle can be nice, especially when you got some AC that can control everything. I just, I just experienced that a little bit myself. Ryan, I want to ask you a little bit about this ball club about, I'd say a little bit about a month ago, this team looked like it could run and hide in the American League West. That has not been the case. This team has struggled a little bit. The lead they had that was once 10 dwindled down to two. What, what has happened in that span of time with this Mariners ball club? Yeah, they got a hit in the face by a big slap of reality. They realize that if you average free runs a game, no matter how good your starting rotation is, it's not just sustainable to keep winning baseball games at the big league level. I mean, they're starting rotation has been outstanding all year. So, I think they're first or second in quality starts, you know, they go out, they get you six almost every day. But, you know, when you struggle to score four runs in a game and it's an ordeal to score four runs, and even in modern baseball, we're batting averages down and strikeouts are up and everybody's relying on the whole run. You got to find a way to get four. And I mean, for the Mariners, it's difficult to do it at times. Ryan, I want to talk about, well, let's talk about Logan Gilbert first. He's pitching tonight, and he's had really good success against the Padres. You talked about quality starts. I think he's got 14 out of 18. So, it's almost every time out, yet he's only got five wins, which speaks to what you're saying about this offense. Does the offense simply, well, I asked about Logan Gilbert. So, let's stay there. How good is this guy and how good should he be if he was getting support? Yeah, I mean, like you look at it, there's, you know, in all those quality starts, I think there's four or five no decisions and like three losses, where he gave two of the losses, he gave up two runs and they lost. Yeah, it's, he's been outstanding. So, he, he was a guy that they drafted in the first round and you look at him and while I will, you know, as a former college catcher, I will say that no pitcher is athletic ever. He really doesn't look athletic in any way. Anyway, he puts seven, kind of walks on his toes, you know, I mean, but he's got the longest arms I've ever seen. He's got the biggest hands I've ever seen, like a baseball looks like a golf ball in his hands and he's kind of what the modern pitcher is and like, you know, he's got the water ball, the med ball, the weighted bags, all that stuff that he does in between starts and warming up like Paul Schemes. You know, he's gone to a pitching guru since he was 14 years old or 13 years old, like how to build all the stuff. And he's also a guy that like continues to like monitor all the data. So, he understands spin rates, pitch shaping, all the tunneling aspects. And what he does is he'll just continue to add his repertoire. When he first came up, he threw a 14 basketball 70% of the time, he had a slider curveball and changed it. We no longer have to change it. He's got a splitter. He's got a two-seamer, four-seamer. He's got a cutter, slider, curveball, you know, he's got everything because he continues bad because like, as he said, you got to keep adding, you got to keep adding to try and combat these hitters. So, you know, that's, he's kind of a ball, then that's what made him good. That's kind of like lifted him into the all-star statuses. He continues to add pitches and refinance repertoire. So, like, he's not getting beat up by left-handed pitchers or he's not getting beat up for homers. You know, he found ways to adjust to what hitters are doing to him. First of all, Ryan, you and I subscribe to the same thought in terms of pitchers and never being athletes. They will tell you, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey." They will tell you differently, all of them will. But I want to pin you down on on on Logan a little bit because he is getting better. It seems like I've seen him in the past. I've seen all starts against the Padres. He's been dominating in all. But it seems like this year he has taken another step forward. He's an all-star this year. Is that in part because he keeps adding to his repertoire? Is it that simple? Yeah, I mean, like it's, you know, the splitter especially because he didn't have a change-up. So, you know, you get that splitter, which is like kind of the new pitch coming back. I think all the Mariners are doing it. So, he has the splitter and it changed to the eye level because it's on multiple planes. Yeah, it's got, I think it's an '84. So, you're talking about the good V-load difference. And, you know, it has a lot of movement. And you got to have that against lefties. I mean, it seems to just load up with lefties against them. He didn't have a way to combat it. You know, change kind of the plane on the slider a little bit. All the stuff that continue to evolve. And what it really does is he doesn't have patterns. You know, he's not predictable. You can go anywhere, anyway. And he's shown a willingness to throw any of them. Again, you know, like, he said starts this year where he's thrown his fastball 25% of the time. You know, two years ago, it was 75% of the time. Yeah, that's a big change in the mentality. You know, these guys go up, you know, pumping heaters by guys at the AA level and thinking that's what it takes. But that's what's going to make you good. And when you get there and you realize, oh, this doesn't happen. I mean, look at Chris paddock. You guys remember that? Yeah, they catch up to the fastball. Good hitters will find a way to hit that fastball. So how do you combat it? And that's what he's done. Ryan Davis Seattle times is with us. Ryan, I want to ask about Julio Rodriguez. That's kind of where I was headed last question before I pulled myself back to where I wanted to be. 16 games, one home run, one RBI. That's unbelievable for a guy of his stature. It's got only 30 RBIs this season. He's only hitting 247. His on base is under 300. I'm telling you things you already know, his OPS is a paltry 632. This is Julio Rodriguez. Now he gets a quad injury Saturday gets a plate appearance Sunday. What's the latest with him and what's been wrong with him? Well, I expect him to play. I don't know if he'll start today, but I expect him to play in the series. The quad injury wasn't too serious, but they thought anyways, it was more precautionary. And I think it's smart. He didn't try and push it and hurt himself. As far as the bat, I don't know if it is what, you know, it's been a lot of things. It's been approached. It's been swing changes that he made in the offseason that didn't manifest into success. And, you know, and it's all kind of just multiplied. So like he, this offseason, he changed up the load in his swing a little bit. He's less legs is real, but it was really static looking. And like, you know, like the idea of going back to get forward, as as you guys know, this guy has a statue would like to say you need to get in a good athletic position and get a good pitch to hit who he was doing, neither. He was he's the best athlete on the team. And he looked at least athletic in the box. And so they've been trying to get back to maybe what he was doing before, but you know, it just hasn't synced up. And then part of the problem with that, too, is that they attacked him. Like he attacked all right handed power hitters, pound them inside with fastballs and sinkers, and then go soft away, soft away, soft away until they chase. And he would face because he's a guy that put up numbers. You know, it's first two years. And when you aren't putting up numbers and you don't understand why, you just keep swinging and swinging more and you're playing right into their hands. So he's kind of gotten better with his approach at times. Sometimes the moment gets a little big for him. You know, he's 23 still, but he'll still get a little swing happy. They brought in his in the Mariners, basically called his personal hitting coach that he works with in the off season. A guy down at Tampa flew him in for this last homestead was nine days they were out there every day because the hitting coach was like, well, we need something. You know, something's got to something's got to get better. So they brought him in and it looked better. You get a homer head of double and then he got hurt. But he's really just been kind of late with his timing late on the fastball. And then when you're late on the fastball, you're just not hitting good fastballs. You're missing him, put you in a bad position for breaking pitches. So if he plays, that's something you want to watch is just kind of see where his timing's like. If he, you know, they're what they're trying to just impart on him is that it's okay to get started early. Get started early and get your foot down and get in a position to hit the ball because before it was like everything was trying to go at the same time and he was all over the place. We'll see if it happens. But I know this much if he doesn't get going, he doesn't kind of, you know, he's not going to get his normal numbers. But if he doesn't start being more productive, he won't go anywhere because we're a bad offensive team as it is. And when he's not going there, they're a horrible offensive team. It's every player's crypto night trying to get more after, I mean, two really good seasons, tried to win the swing change. And it seems like it hasn't caught around. I got to ask, first of all, I've been pretty impressed, but you break down a lot of these dudes, man. I got to ask, I mean, this offense has never been like a juggernaut by any stretch, but they had pockets where they could put up runs. I mean, you start going through the numbers. It seems like everybody is having a down year offensively. I mean, what has been the conversation around the offense as a whole? I know you mentioned they haven't been able to score runs, but they, they were pretty content with this group coming in. Why have they performed so poorly offensively? I mean, like, they strike out at just an alarming rate. 32% I think the time. And, you know, and really a lot of the strikeouts aren't even about the swings on strike three. They're missing a lot of fastballs in the zone early, you know, filing them off, not doing damage. But you know, they went out and they had some payroll issues, you know, similar to the Padres, you got to maneuver some stuff. So they made some trades, moved some money around. They go out and add Mitch Garver on a free agent's time, and then they trade for Mitch Hanniger to come back. And he's had success in Seattle. They trade for Jorge Polanco, his former All-Stars, always kind of put up numbers if he's healthy. None of those guys has been any good. I mean, like, you look at the Mariners offense, they only have one player with an OPS over 750. It's Luke Rayleigh. The rest of them are all below. Ty France has struggled, got hurt, struggled, Julio struggled. JP Crawford, after a year where he hit 270, had about a 390-400 on base percentage. Struggling, you know, they've had the collective struggles of this team have been just unreal. You know, they've already fired Brent Brown, who they hired to be kind of their offensive coordinator, hitting coach. I mean, like, everybody wants the other hitting coaches fired. But I think it's just, it's just kind of a mask on them. Guys are struggled at the same time, and everybody's trying to figure it out. And a lot of them have just tried to hit their way out of it. I think sometimes when you, in MLB, when you want to get more hits, you need to swing less. And they haven't really proven they can do that yet. And so until they do, I mean, like everybody's talking about the trade deadline, and they need to add back, you can go out and Luis Robert. But if these other guys don't hit, it'll just be what Luis Robert hit, and then nobody else. Because like, really, right now, you look at it. I, you know, Cal Raleigh has been really good late in games. They know it's humorous, but, you know, 210 batting average and strike it out at 35%. So they don't, they just don't have any sort of consistency in terms of results. Like it's a struggle for them to put two hits or three hits in and inning together. Sorry to hear that. And hopefully it won't pick up until you guys leave town. But Ryan, it's just Seattle Times, great stuff. I got another minute left, Ryan. If you can sneak in the trade that took place a couple of years ago around these parts that sent Austin Nola here and Munoz and France and others there has never really been looked upon to happily hear. How about in Seattle? I know you said Ty was struggling a bit and he's our Aztec guy. Munoz with the closer 14 saves. I'm assuming they still feel that was a success. Oh, yeah. I mean, because like everybody kind of knew that Austin, there was a shelf life and how successful he could be because he got beat up so much. He was older. And I think Munoz has just been outstanding. You know, they locked him up to a long-term deal. And really, if you look at it, how do you not strain his back a little bit in that game and Oakland covering home? He would probably be an all-star and he still could be. I mean, but, you know, he's just dominant when he gets in there. He's got the slider out of the two-seamer at 99 miles an hour and just a good guy. So, you know, even if they just get under his Munoz out of that deal, they'll keep him. It'll be pretty happy out of that trade. You know, if Ty France is gone and then you've got to remember too, there was that other trade for a player to be named later named Matt Brash who's had TJ this year, but you know, Taylor Williams from Matt Brash and you get, you know, Brash at Tommy John this year, but last year, you know, he had a he was striking all batters at a 40% rate and he'll be back in a year and back on 100 and with a nasty slider. So they did okay in those deals. I mean, they've had some other trades that haven't been good, but those ones have worked out okay. Yeah, losing Munoz hurt my soul, for sure. You saw that one comment when that one was to happen. Ryan, man, great work, man. I appreciate you coming on Spins of Time. I'm sure I'll connect with you here today at the field, but I appreciate you coming on today. No problem. Take it easy guys. Good stuff, Ryan. Ryan Davis, Seattle Times, fantastic work there on Gwen and Chris. I learned a lot in that segment, Tony. Usually I have to ask you stuff, but this time, you know, he covered for us. That was good. He covered everything. He did good work. So it's not just Padres fans that want to fire hitting coaches. No, he hit the nail and then everybody wants their hitting coach. Yeah, sure. Maybe with the exception of like the Braves and Dodgers or something like that. Let's get to break three o'clock hour on the way more Gwen and Chris. To Gwen and Chris, Chris Ello, Tony Gwen Jr. down at Petco Park, Matt Scrabie, alongside in the Odyssey Palace studios. We're here to about 530. And Sammy Levitt takes over with the Padre Pregame show just after 630 tonight. Adam Major, we didn't get to it, but I wanted to ask Tony makes another start for the Padres. We didn't get into it with Tony. He'll be back a little bit later, but what did you want to get in with the you Darvish situation or the major situation? It seemed. Do you think he's getting better with each parents? I think that he is getting more comfortable with each appearance. I just don't know. It seems like they're trying to force something to me. I know, but they must. Can we at least hopefully give the Padres enough of the benefit of the doubt that they know more than all of the armchair quarterbacks out there, including myself, who thinks some guy from double A who has a good ERA is a better option because I really believe that if the Padres and their scouts and the people that are paid to do this stuff, really felt they had a better option. That option would be here. So we have to trust that they're doing what they feel is best. I know one in two with a 7.5 to ERA doesn't sound too sweet, but it must be that there's no better option right now. I just have to believe that. I know everybody on Twitter thinks they're smarter and knows who they should bring up and who the guy should be. This guy has an F-War and a Zing rating and knows what else on double A, but I have to believe my team thinks this is the best option right now. I'm with you. I'm so subscribed to that theory. That's what we've got. He's pitching tonight. I think the longer it goes without a major, the more it becomes very apparent that the Padres are going to have to make a trade for a starting picture because we don't know if at all Darvish is coming back and Musgrove is August if then. So you're going to have to make a make a trade. That's it. On the other side tonight, all you've got is an all-star Logan Gilbert for the Mariners who, as we just talked with Ryan Divish, has basically been one of the best pictures in baseball despite a five and five record. So this guy puts up a lot of zeroes and normally does so against the Padres. So here's the lineup that will face him tonight for your San Diego Padres when we shall rise, we'll lead off at first base. I'm going to say too that a rise has done a better job than I thought he'd do at first base. Has he had his moments? Yeah, he had a game I think with two errors a couple of weeks ago. He's, you know, he never claimed to be a defensive specialist. I didn't think he was. But I think overall he's done better than I expected him to do there. I don't know if anybody agrees with me or not. I know. Jerkson Profar is in left field. He's done better than all of us have expected. Is that fair to say? My countdown on Friday was top five things I got wrong about the Padres and Jerkson Profar was number one. Well, everybody's number one would be Jerkson Profar for sure. Jake, I mean, think about it. Jerkson Profar was an afterthought. He was. They didn't begin the off season by going, hey, let's target Jerkson Profar. They basically got him because nobody else felt like picking him up. Exactly. So we'll take it. Even the Padres can hardly be credited, you know, for being geniuses on this. They basically took him because no one else wanted him and he really wanted to be a Padres. Man, has that been unbelievable? Jake Croninworth is it second base tonight. Manny's playing third. I always bring that up because I just, I think you get, you know, for your price of a ticket, you want Manny a third. Yeah. Because I mean, with all the love to Solano, he's never going to be Manny over there. And you might see something from Manny anytime you go to a game that you may have never seen before a third baseman do. That's how exciting it is for me to see him out there. Last time I went to a game, I can't remember which one it was, but he made one of those plays where he runs into like the fence basically. And then as he's falling, he throws it back to first and it's just like right to the chest of the first baseman. Are you kidding me? Standing in the front row of the box seats. Yeah. And he doesn't even like throw. He's just like, here you go. Boom. And it's like a, it's a seed to first base. It's unreal that he can do that. Solano is the DH tonight. Jackson Merrill Hassan Kim, David Peralta continuing to get the playing time in right field and Kylie Gashyoka. I mean, you got to go with a gashyoka more than Campshano until further notice. And that's what Mike Schult is doing. So there's your Padre lineup. I do want to give you a couple of baseball notes because they're, they're interesting baseball notes on this Tuesday afternoon. This is not a shocker. Okay. The Dodgers have placed guess who on the 15 day injured list with back tightness. Did you look? Oh, yeah. I always thought. So, you know, yeah, but Tyler Glass now gets hurt every year. And Tyler Glass now is also pitched pretty much more innings already this year than he normally does in a season. And you know, he's on the all star team. He's not going to pitch in the all star game now. He's eight and five. He's leading the league with 143 strikeouts. But, you know, is he going to make it through this season? And we'll have to see what was the, what was the designation back tightness back tightness? And here's the thing. Dave Roberts said that Glass now's back flared up while he was playing catch over the weekend. How badly can it flare up? No, this is, this is all this is bothers you. This is a Fugazi. It's a Fugazi, you said, because he is going to get a bunch of time to rest in the middle of the season to be ready to go for the second half. And he doesn't have to do the all star thing. He doesn't have to. Oh, so you're just thinking they're doing this for the hell of it. Yeah, I mean, maybe I don't know if he'll go to the all star game or if he, you know, I'm sure people care about going, but he was named an all star. He'll go down on his record as an all star. But this is totally a phantom. I know I think the chat is calling it interesting, interesting. All right, hadn't thought of that. Since that reds pitcher hunter green will be named as the injury replacement on the NL all star team, your favorite guy. Don't hate him. I just I just freaked out. Oh, sorry. That'll have to wait for somebody else to get hurt. They don't want to six, Padre. Not yet. Anyway, not yet. Anyway, a couple of other baseball notes. Boston Red Sox, third baseman Rafael Dever's shoulder injury. He's already been scratched from the all star game. Look, the Red Sox, we saw them a couple of weeks ago in Sepadre. They're just trying to hang in there. They're seven and a half games out of first place. They're in the third wild card spot. So they're just on the outside looking in, but they're going to need Dever's in the second half of the season if they're going to make it to the American League playoff. So this is not good news for Boston. And then good news for a team that doesn't need good news. The Philadelphia Phillies have activated both Bryce Harper and our friend, Carl Schwer, from Carl's back. Carl is back. Yeah. Okay. Schwer, Bryce Harper, both back from the injury list. David Dahl, our old pal here, has been designated again for assignment. Okay. And Cody Clemens, who I believe is Roger's son, keeps bouncing back and forth to triple A. Yeah, I think that's his son. Could be wrong. Might be another Cody Clemens out there, but I doubt it. Anyhow, so those are some of the baseball news and notes for you. We're going to do one more. Yeah, I got one more. Because this is more important than all of the rest of them put together. Jose Ramirez has become the sixth member of the eight man home run Derby field. Cleveland Indians slugger. I'm a bigger fan of all of these guys because they decided to. The other five guys that are in Peter Lanzo, Alec Baume, Gunnar Henderson, Marcelo Zuna, Bobby Witt, Jr. There are two more spots open for the home run Derby, which is coming up a week from yesterday, next Monday, next Tuesday is the All-Star game. Oh, yes, I was thinking next Monday will be the home run Derby contest. We're gonna have to do the daily game, but the next segment. Yes, we will buy that. I have a Jordi on the chat said, Scrabie, would you still feel the same way if the Padres put Joe Musgrove on the IEL right before the All-Star break? Oh, I see what you're saying about your your assertion is that glass now is not hurt. Glass now is just going to rest for a month. Yeah, so that he can have enough arm strength and build up to pitch in August and September, you're calling this whole injury a Fugazi. Yes, Fugazi are a phantom myel injury. If this was Joe Musgrove, he actually has real injuries happening. Like his shoulder is a well documented injury that he's had. So like back tightness from playing catch over the weekend. My back is tight as Chris says all the time getting out of bed. Like if all it took us for back tightness for you and me not to come to work, there would be no show. This dude plays catch for a living. Yes, there would be there would be no show because we're out every day. Now, if they were the site shoulder strain, something like that, then I would maybe it might be real, but a back tightness from playing catches. Here's the difference between Joe Musgrove and glass now. Joe Musgrove when he's right and when he's healthy pitches 180 innings a year. So you can count on him to stay in the rotation all year long. If healthy, he can pitch that many innings. Where you might be right here, Scrabby is I look up glass now's career numbers. Glass now doesn't normally pitch that many innings. He's 27. Yeah, he's been hurt so many times. And if you look at his career high for innings, it's 120. He's already at 109 this year. What do you think they're doing, Chris? I hate to agree with you on a conspiracy theory. You know that. Where's my conspiracy? But I'm going to agree with you on this conspiracy theory. I think you've sold me on one. I got it. You've sold me on one. Love it. This is a Fugazi. A Fugazi. Dodgers are pulling a Fugazi. And they're sticking glass now on the injured list so that he can rest up. I think you're 100% right. Oh, my conspiracy music is here for everybody. I wish we could play the Dave Roberts quote now with this music behind it. Let me go find if I can find it quickly. Because you think you can actually find him saying it? Possibly. I can just pretend to be Dave Roberts. I would love that more. There's no quote in the story. Oh, my sorry. It just says that Dave Roberts said that he's back flared up while he was playing catch over the weekend. All right. Yeah, dude, just say that. Just be like, guys, guys, I have some troubling news. Oh, gas, murmur, murmur. Yes. Tyler Clash. Now, you know, our all-star right-hander. Yes, he's pitched 109 innings. He was playing catch over the weekend. I believe with his eight-year-old son. Oh, no. In the front yard. And his back flared up. What? Yeah. We're gonna have to put him on the injury list indefinitely. But what? Indefinitely. Yes. We'll let you know he's going to come back at some point. He's going to come back. It says here at some point after the all-star break, well, how do they know that? Oh, I know. His back could be injured forever. It could stay flared up. Did they already schedule their tweet for when he comes back from the all-star break? Tyler Glass now reinstated for the first game back. I, you know, I said, I hate to agree with you on this stuff, but I agree with you. I think this is what the Dodgers are doing for sure. I've got really good news before we go to the break at some point between now and the end of the program at 5.30. That's anytime in the next two hours, you out there are going to have a chance to win a pair of tickets to tomorrow's Padres Mariners rivalry game. The first 40,000 fans tomorrow will receive Padres throwback hats celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Get tickets at Padres dot com slash tickets or continue listening to this program for your chance to win a little later on. We normally will come up with a trivia question for you. It'll probably have to do with the Mariners since the Padres are playing the Mariners. So you might want to brush up on your Mariners trivia out there and because whoever gets the question correct will win the tickets, but that'll be anytime between now and 5.30. Coming up next traffic and then today's Daily Gambit. We're gonna have to do the Daily Gambit the next segment. Yes, we will do that. I have a Jordi on the chat said. Scrabie, would you still feel the same way if the Padres put Joe Musgrove on the IL right before the all-star break? Oh, I see what you're saying about your your assertion is that glass now is not hurt. Glass now is just gonna rest for a month. Yeah, so that he can have enough arm strength and build up to pitch in August and September. You're calling this whole injury a fugazi. Yes, fugazi are a phantom IL injury. Now if they were to cite shoulder strain, something like that, then I would maybe it was real, but a back tightness of playing catches. Here's the difference between Joe Musgrove and glass now. Joe Musgrove when he's right and when he's healthy pitches 180 innings a year. So you can count on him to stay in the rotation all year long. If healthy, he can pitch that many innings where you might be right here, Scrabie, is I look up glass now's career numbers. Glass now doesn't normally pitch that many innings. Yeah, he's been hurt so many times. And if you look at his career high for innings, it's 120. He's already at 109 this year. What do you think they're doing, Chris? I hate to agree with you on a conspiracy theory. You know that. Oh, where's my conspiracy theory? But I'm going to agree with you on this conspiracy theory. I think you've sold me on one. I got it. You've sold me on one. Love it. This is a fugazi. A fugazi. Dodgers are pulling a fugazi and they're sticking glass now on the injured list so that he can rest up. I think you're 100% right. My conspiracy music is here for everybody. I wish we could play the Dave Roberts quote now with this music behind it. Let me go find it. If I can find it quickly. Because you think you can actually find him saying it possibly. I can just pretend to be Dave Roberts. I would love that more. There's no quote in the story. Oh my sorry. It just says that Dave Roberts said that he's back flared up while he was playing catch over the weekend. All right. Yeah, dude. Just say that. Just be like. Guys, I have some troubling news. Oh, gas, murmur, murmur. Yes. Tyler Clash now, you know, our all-star right-hander. Yes, he's featured 109 innings. He was playing catch over the weekend. I believe with his eight-year-old son in the front yard and his back flared up. What? Yeah. We're going to have to put him on the injury list indefinitely. But what? Indefinitely. Yeah, we'll let you know. He's going to come back at some point. He's going to come back. It says here at some point after the all-star break. Well, how do they know that? I know he's back could be injured forever. It could stay flared up. Did they already schedule their tweet for when he comes back from the all-star break? Tyler Clash now reinstated for the first game back. I, you know, yeah, I said, I hate to agree with you on this stuff, but I agree with you. I think this is what the Dodgers are doing for sure. I've got really good news before we go to the break. Unfortunately, but probably in a position where it's about to lose another Chris's Fantabulous Sports Game Show or will he. Thanks for that. Maybe today's category will shoot you my friend. Let's check traffic and then find out about it. Hey, all you beautiful people out there. It's time to play one of our favorite games of the week. All right. We like to call it. Chris's Fantabulous Sports Game Show. It starts right now on nine seven three the fan and welcome into the Fantabulous Sports Game Show. Another crazy edition of our favorite our favorite game show here on Gwen and Chris. Chris Ello. I'm your host of the show. Matt Scrabie, Tony Gwen Jr. are the contestants. You can play alongside out there. See how many correct answers you can get as we get into today's contest. Tony Gwen is a three or four time defending champion. I don't think Scrabie has won since the month of I'm going to say March. It's been a while. Possibly April. April. Maybe you got one in April, but it's been a while. So we'll see if today is your day. You know, I kind of forgot about this segment until we brought it up yesterday. And I was like, yeah, I'm hanging over my head. Yeah, if I was you too. Yeah, that's the only way to cope, Tony. All right. Well, today's category is going to be a little different than others only because I don't expect too many strikes to come into play here. It could happen. It could be an incorrect guess, but I don't think based on the category, there'll be a lot of incorrect guesses. So I'm going to ask you guys to police yourselves as we go along on this one. There's no official time limit. But if we get down to the very near the end of this thing, and you can't think of somebody, I think you need to say on this round, I can't think of anybody. Okay, so when I tell you the category, I think you'll understand what I'm going. Okay, I also have dirty music if you need it. No, I don't think so. Just police yourselves. If you feel you got somebody say it, if you don't just say, hey, I'm going to have to take a strike on this one. Here's the category today. There are 35 correct answers. So it's going to be pretty quick. I want you guys to name the National League All-Star team. Oh, that's it. Name the National League All-Star team. So we will go back and forth. And I think this is really easy at the beginning, but I think it could get fun down near the end when you're trying to remember the last or so. So way we go, Scrabie, you want to go first? Or do you want Tony to go first? Remember three strikes in your out. I will go first. Go first. Name a National League All-Star. Ever deferred Scrabie? Yes, it blew up in his face. So I just go first so I know that I at least get the one name that I know. You should know more than one on this one. So Jackson Merrill. Jackson Merrill. You can open with Jackson Merrill. Of course I am, Chris. Okay. That's what we're going to do. Okay. All right, should we just consider the Padres out? No, okay. Might as well just do them and it's simpler to just do it. All right, Tony and All-Star. Sorry? Jerks and Profar. Okay, one one. Scrabie, we can, you know, Robert Suarez. Robert Suarez, all the Padres are being taken right off the bat here. All right, Tony. Louisa rise. Louisa rise. All-Star. There's been a little controversy about Louisa rise. Have you seen this Tony at all? No. I know you and I would never agree with it. Oh, it's the, it's the analytic idiots. You know, don't think that he- They're back at terrain didn't get an invite. Well, I don't even know if it's him so much as they just don't think Louisa rise as an All-Star because he doesn't hit a lot of doubles, triples, and home runs and they said Francisco Lindor was absolutely snubbed. Even though he didn't hit 200 until like a month ago. Too bad. Louisa rise is the most fun guy to watch it in baseball. I love watching this guy. Oh, Tony says. Agreed. All right, two, two. Scrabie. Fernando Tati's Jr. All right, very good. Three to two. We've got five All-Stars down, 30 to go. Tony Gwen Jr. Your turn. Christian Walker. Christian Walker. That's going to cost you a strike. He is not on the All-Star team. I read yesterday the snubs. He's one of the biggest snubs so far. I have a feeling he'll get on as an injury replacement. But as of now, so eventually I will be right just now. Yes, eventually he will be right. But not for the purposes of today's game that will cost you a strike. Christian Walker, I think he's the biggest snub in the National League, frankly. But that's my opinion. And is your tree. I agree with you. Yes, you do. All right, three, two leads. Scrabie, who you got? Just only the best pitcher that's ever pitched of all time, Paul Skins. Paul Skins. All right, Scrabie is a Paul Skins hater, by the way, Tony. I've got a Paul Skins hater on the media of Paul Skins hater. Yeah. All right, Tony, you're up trailing four to two here in the early going. How about you make Brian Reynolds? Brian Reynolds did make the All-Star team. That is correct. Very good. Brian Reynolds on there is an outfielder for the Pirates. Pirates got a couple of different guys on there and more than normal. They usually just get the minimum one. All right, Scrabie, you're up four to three and it's your turn. CJ Abrams. CJ Abrams. We're naming former Padres now, apparently. Scrabie leads five to three. Tony, your turn. Oh, it starts to get a little thick here. How about Bryce Harper? Bryce Harper is a winner. That is correct. Voted in probably will not play in the game. And because of that, I believe that is why Christian Walker will get in. But that's unfortunately not good enough for Tony at this point. Scrabie, you got a five four lead here. You've kind of got the, you got the hammer for the moment and see if you can hang on to it. Ranger Suarez. Ranger Suarez, okay. Oh, what did I say? No, no relation to Robert Suarez. I'm about to jump all over. Yes, he was ready to attack. It's going to be in attack mode. All right, six four. There's still 25 guys left. So how about Mr. Ellie De La Cruz? Ellie De La Cruz of the Reds. Very good. He is an All-Star for these. The Reds represent, I shouldn't tell you that because you might think there's another red later on. So I shouldn't say that. You think? Yeah, probably not in this case, but I probably shouldn't give you that information. All right, Scrabie, six, Tony, five, still a ways to go here. Oh, Tony. Shohei Otani did make the All-Star team. That's correct. Yeah, okay, good. Yeah, he made it. All right, Tony, you're up. Freddie Freeman. Freddie Freeman, he did make the All-Star team. That is correct. Seven to six. Scrabie continuing with a lead here. Still 20 plus answers that will be accepted. Chris Sale. Atlanta Braves pitcher. He's on there. He is a correct answer. Scrabie leads eight to six. Tony Gwen Jr. Tony's, that's could be your category today, Scrab. I don't know. We'll see. I've seen a lot of, I saw this so many times yesterday. So you're feeling like you're going to be good on it. I am forgetting some now that I'm on the star. Christian Yellich. Christian Yellich is on the All-Star team for Tony Gwen. That is correct. Yellich having a nice bounce back season. That's not the starters here. Eight to seven. 20 correct answers remaining. Scrabie, you are up. The eight, seven lead. Petalonzo who is on the All-Star team instead of Christian Walker, which I think was a bad selection. All right, that is correct though. It is nine to seven. Tony your turn. Catel Marte. Catel Marte starting second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Correct answer there. Makes a score nine to eight. We keep on rolling along. Scrabie, name a National League All-Star. I mean, Alec Bohm has to be there. Who? Alec Bohm. Alec Bohm. Yes. All right. He is a third baseman. Correct. On the All-Star team 10, eight, Scrabie maintains his advantage. Tony Gwen Jr. How about the other Philly Trey Turner? Trey Turner. Yeah, they put him on the All-Star team. That is correct. Uh, 10 to nine. So it's back and forth. We go here. Momma, mochi. That was so bad. I'm not going to interrupt you. What was it again? I gave up on it in the middle because I felt stupid. Yeah, mochi bets is on the All-Star team. Momma, mochi did not make it. I don't know. Is he going to be back? I don't think so. It's not for like two months. Yeah. It has been a month maybe. Momma, mochi. Momma, mochi. That's what it's about. 11 to nine. I think we're just going to try to get away from that one as quickly as possible. Tony Gwen Jr. How about Glass Now? Tyler Glass now correct. He is on the All-Star team. Although it's not been pitching like an All-Star lately. It's been struggling somewhat. Uh, 11 to 10. Scrabby maintains the lead. We get down to the final 14 correct answers now. Might get a little, little crazy here. Is, uh, Jazz Chisholm an All-Star? Is that your guess? Yeah. Uh, he is not an All-Star. Jazz Chisholm did not make the All-Star team that is the first strike for Scrabby. And now a chance for Tony Gwen Jr. to tie it back up here if he can get a correct answer. Oh, I saw this one on IG the other day. How about the Rocky? Mr. McMahon. Ryan McMahon is the lone Rocky. That is, I shouldn't say the lone. Sorry about that. But yes, he is on the team. Ryan McMahon made it and ties it up. So we're back where we started 11, 11 with 12 correct answer, 13. Sorry, 13 correct answers remaining and both guys have a strike. Scrabby naming an All-Star. Where it's going to get tricky for me is these relievers. Um, okay. But I'm going to go with a former Padre and Matt Strom. Matt Strom made the All-Star team. Good for him. And I will say this, not a lot of middle relievers make the All-Star team. Just in general, they don't get wins. They don't get saves. But Matt Strom has been almost unhittable this year. Good for him. He is on the All-Star team. Correct Scrabby. You retake the lead, 12, 11, Tony Gwen Jr. Again, to try and tie it back up. Let's go back to the Dodger world. Will Smith. Will Smith is on the team. Yeah. Will Smith, Mr. Yeah, he and profile are going to be sharing lockers side by side. Exactly. I don't know if they will, but Mr. Mr. Relevant and Mr. Irrelevant, depending on whose side you're on there. Um, Will Smith did have a three home run game the other dad. I don't know if he caught that. Four home runs and four at bats or three at bats. Yeah, well, whatever. Still, still not a fan. Uh, all right. We're back tied up again. It is four, eight, 10, 12, 12. So, uh, we're down to the final. We're getting 11 guys on the All-Star team. And I thought it might get a little interesting here. Again, you know, be fair, take some time. But if you don't have anybody, all right, you got to, you got to say so. I really hope I'm getting the right guy here. And your guess is William Contreras William Contreras. Correct. Yeah. The last remaining starter. It could have been Wilson Contreras. I get those guys confused all the time. Yeah. William is the guy from Milwaukee and he is on the All-Star team. That is correct. Scrabie, very good. 13, 12, 10 correct answers down, closer to the nitty gritty here, Tony. Teoska. Teoska Hernandez made it from the Dodgers. He's got a nice year. Although he strikes out a ton. Uh, we are back tied up again with nine correct answers remaining. Kind of like in this game, because I think it's going to be interesting here down the stretch. Here we go. Scrabie stand up. Real Scrabie. Yeah, this is, this is where it gets tough. 13, 13, there are nine guys left that are correct answers. What about Kyle Schwarber? Kyle Schwarber. Carl Schwarber is on the All-Star team, but Kyle is not. That is going to cost you a strike. I'm sorry. Kyle Schwarber did not make the All-Star team this year. How did that guy not make the All-Star team? Uh, I don't know what the tongue is. When the best D.H. The guy they show Hale, Tony. Are you sure they counted correctly? Oh, stupid show. Hey, taking his spot. All right. So no, now two strikes for you, Scrab. Tony, Gwen Jr. with a chance to take your first lead of the day and this contest. How about just getting Ashley West? Because those are the ones I can remember right now. We'll go. Helliot. No. What's his last? Oh, he doesn't have it yet. Ramos. I don't know. Did Jesse Agler mouth the answer to you? No, he wouldn't do that. All right. So Tony takes his first lead. Kileo to Ramos of the San Francisco Giants who didn't even start the year in the big leagues makes the All-Star team. Here's a very good story. It is 14 to 13. There are only eight correct answers remaining Scrab. You must come up with one of those eight in order to stay alive in the game because you have two strikes, my friend. Um, this is, this is going to get tough. Okay. Got to think. I'm going to give you a little extra time since you have two strikes, but do you do have to come up with an answer here in somewhat short order? Oh, oh, well, just like that. Imanaga. Imanaga. The Cubs. Yeah, he's on the All-Star team. Should you want to try his first name? Shota? Yeah. Shota. Shota. Shota. Shota. Shota. In Inmanaga. The Cubs is indeed an All-Star this year. That is correct, Scrabie. Good job. Save yourself. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight answers left. And we are tied at 14. Is that right? No, one, two, seven answers left. Anyway, Tony tied at 14. You're up. Logan Webb. Logan Webb. San Francisco Giants. Correct. He is on the All-Star team once again, having another very consistent season for the Giants. By the way, did you guys see who's starting tonight for the Giants? Just as an aside, um, Blake Snow. Blake Snow was back in the, uh, in the, in the, they're actually, I read this morning, they're trying to get him two starts before the All-Star break. Okay. We'll see how that works. In fact, there's great. Thanks. Thanks. 10, 15 to 14. Tony leads by one. Six correct answers remaining. All right. Scrabie, it is down to the, uh, the bitter end here. Yeah. We're going to talk about this guy in the big five, Marcello Zuna. Yeah. That's correct. Marcello Zuna. Yeah. He did make it as the backup DH show. Between he and even, uh, he, he and Otani, I guess, were the ones that kept Schwerber out. That keeps you alive, though, Scrabie at 15, 15 with five correct answers remaining. That's it. Just five guys will get you a correct answer at this point. Tony Gwen Jr. your turn. I'm talking slowly cause I'm trying to. Sure. No, I need you to talk slowly. So I might right here. So you can think of a bunch of them. Sorry. So he's a Philly had a bunch. We said Harper. We said Turner. We said bone. We said strum. Oh, Zach Wheeler, Zach Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies. Correct. That makes it 16 to 15 in favor of Tony. You guys have only left off four guys now. That would be a correct answer. Scrabie, you need one of those four. You have two strikes in order to stay alive. And today's fantabulous sports game show. Who is it going to be to save you from elimination? He is hard at thought. He is thinking things over. I'm thinking about relievers that have been good this year. Relievers that have been good this year. Wait, he says. Did something come to mind? No, it just went away. Wait, wait, it's back. No, I'm just kidding. A study and human behavior here. I haven't heard his name in a while, but I know he was on the All Star track. Ryan Helsley. Ryan Helsley. It's only got like 39 saves. Yes. I didn't know if he was hurt or something. No, he's on the All Star team. Scrabie's very good. You saved yourself nicely there. Helsley. That was pretty impressive, right? That was a good poll. That's fantasy baseball for you. There are only three correct answers remaining now. We're tied 16-16 and it is Tony Gwen Jr.'s turn. This guy pitched pretty well. I think Patrick's still beating though early in the season. Reynaldo Lopez. I just wrote him down. The braise. I was waiting for you to remember him, Scrabie, because he's on your fantasy baseball team. Even better. That means he's empty. Yeah. That hurt. That hurt him. Oh, that did. I saw him. I saw when he said fantasy baseball, then I saw the light go on, then I saw him write something down, and I thought, oh, he's writing down Reynaldo Lopez right now. Tony is correct. Reynaldo Lopez makes it 17-16. There are two correct answers remaining. Scrabie, you must get one of them to stay alive. I don't know if this guy's only got one. I don't have many anymore, but I'm going to think of up and comer, and I'm going to say O'Neill Cruz. O'Neill Cruz. He's hit more long home runs than anybody in baseball this year, but not enough to put him on the All-Star team. I'm sorry to say that a strike three Scrabie. You are out. Tony Gwen Jr. wins a hard five match-up in the fantabulous sports game show today. Man, you stole Reynaldo. No, I stole it. I took him right off your plate there, buddy. That was like, I was like, oh my gosh, I'm going to take the lead in this one, and then you took it. Reynaldo Lopez. I only had one more, and I might even have it. Did Jeff Hoffman get in? He did. Jeff Hoffman of the Phillies, and the last one that nobody mentioned is the Miami Marlins representative. That's why. Reliever Tanner Scott. Never would have kissed. Tanner Scott. Left-handed reliever. Oh, man. You know what? I usually lose by like one or two. Yeah, so that's the design. That's the design of the game though. Yeah, that's also the game. Yeah, so that speaks to you always trying to say Chris isn't picking good categories for you. You typically only lose by one or two. I know this was an incredibly fair category because I'm a sports producer. If I don't see the NL roster, then I'm in trouble. Yeah, and I'm not going to lie. I'm not always much better at the historic stuff than I am at the current stuff. I don't know, you sounded pretty good on the current stuff right there. I got that one. That was in my face. It's been in my face the past week. If you would have told me AL, I don't know. I thought about doing American League, but I didn't think it would be as entertaining of a game because I knew it'd be a lot tougher for both sides. A fantabulous sports game show in the books. Tony Gwen Jr. has another title. You can have a title of champion of Chris versus the fans when we come back and play some trivia. Hey, welcome back to it. San Diego. Go ahead and Chris. Hour number three here on 97 through the fan, Chris, Tony Gwen Jr. champion once again after an outstanding matchup in the fantabulous sports game show, Reynaldo Lopez winds up being the Lynch pin answer that wins it for Tony Gwen Jr. and loses it for Matt Scrabie. Just holding my head down right now. I did check your sheet between the break and you did have his name written down. I did. So you had just thought of it that instant and then wrote it down and then Tony guessed it. Yep. And that was the winning guess. Yeah, that's going to hurt a little bit. It's going to hurt a little bit. Sorry about that. 35 All-Stars. Now there's a 36 because Hunter Green has been added in replacing the injured Tyler Glass now, who according to the Scrabie Chronicles is not injured at all. The Dodgers just using a fugazi trip to the injured list to buy him some rest. And I hate to say I agree with it. It just, it makes too much sense. So God has never pitched more than 120 innings. He's already at 109. So strike up the conspiracy music. Glass now goes to the injury list just so he can rest a little bit. If this was like, I don't know, say September, are we doing this? Probably not Chris. Probably not. I don't know that you're wrong on this one, Scrabie. I don't know that you're wrong. Thank you. I mean, look, the Dodgers did offer a pretty weak excuse for why he's going on the injured list. He heard his back playing catch. Like, really? I mean, I'm not even an athlete. I don't hurt my back playing catch every week for everybody throws a ball around. Yeah. You know, you don't throw your back out playing catch. It is a really ridiculous thing to say. Fugazi. Fugazi. Fugazi. Phillies have reactivated Bryce Harper and Kyle Swarber. So those two sluggers are back for the National League's best team, or at least the one with the best record. Some other baseball news for you on this Tuesday. We gave you a couple of things. Raphael Devers, out of the All-Star game. Why? You didn't hear it the first time. He's got a shoulder problem. So the Red Sox are going to be missing him. And I think that's kind of all I have for you right now. And you know why? Because my computer screen is stuck. So I can't find it. Yeah. Okay. I was trying to find a couple of more notes, but my my computer screen completely stuck there for a moment. Oh, yeah. Your camera is bugging. It happens. Um, Phil Maiton. Remember him? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's going to the Mets. Okay. They just got him from the Tampa Bay Rays. Yeah. I don't know that that immediately turns the Mets into World Series contenders, but it does help them in the bullpen. And we mentioned this earlier, but Guardians three B. Jose Ramirez becomes the sixth to be named a contender in this year's home run Derby, the Derby, the Derby, which is on Monday in Major League Baseball. All right. Padres and Mariners coming up six 30 this evening. Logan Gilbert speaking of All-Stars. He would have been an answer had we've been looking at American League All-Stars. He'll be pitching against today. Padres, young right hander, Adam Major tonight out at the ballpark. Pregame show with Sam Levitt. Five 30 following our show. Oh my gosh, Chris, did you hear? You didn't hear this. So last Wednesday after we did our show, right? Because you were done for you. You were on to your weekend. I was. I absentmindedly took the laptop charger from here and put it in my bag. And I get a text from our guy, Nick, the new she like 20 minutes later. Hey, man, do you know where the laptop charger is? And I'm like, because you got to have that. Do not move. Do not move. What part of that? Did you not understand when you moved it? No, it wasn't showing. If this was showing, I would have not taken it. Oh, the other side was. Apparently I kicked Sam Levitt off of the, the YouTube because, because I took the charger and the computer died. And I, Sam, to his credit has never said anything to me about this. It's the listeners that have told me all about this. I feel really bad still. So you, you torpedoed his pregame show last week. Basically, yeah. Well done. And I know how serious Sam gets. Well, he also does an outstanding job. And well, he'll put that to the test this afternoon when he pregames the Padres mirror. It starts right now on 97 three the fan and welcome into the fantabulous sports game show. Another crazy addition of our favorite our favorite game show here on Gwen and Chris. Chris, hello. I'm your host of the show. Matt Scrabby, Tony Gwen Jr. are the contestants. You can play alongside out there. See how many correct answers you can get as we get into today's contest. Tony Gwen is a three or four time defending champion. I don't think Scrabby has won since the month of I'm gonna say March. It's been a while. Possibly April. April. Maybe you got one in April, but it's been a while. So we'll see if today is your day. You know, I kind of forgot about this segment until we brought it up yesterday. And I was like, yeah, I'm hanging over my head. Yeah, we always knew if I was you too. It's a little way to cope, Tony. All right. Well, today's category is gonna be a little different than others only because I don't expect too many strikes to come into play here. It could happen. There could be an incorrect guess, but I don't think based on the category, there'll be a lot of incorrect guesses. So I'm gonna ask you guys to police yourselves as we go along on this one. There's no official time limit. But if we get down to the very near the end of this thing, and you can't think of somebody, I think you need to say on this round, I can't think of anybody. Okay. So when I tell you the category, I think you'll understand what I'm going. Okay, I also have jolly music if you need it. No, I don't think so. Just police yourselves. If you feel you got somebody say it. If you don't, just say, hey, I'm gonna have to take a strike on this one. So away we go, Scrappy, you want to go first? Or do you want Tony to go first? Remember three strikes in your out? I will go first. Go first. Name a National League All-Star. Have you ever deferred Scrappy? Yes, and it blew up in his face. So I just go first so I know that I at least get the one name that I know. You should know more than one on this one. Yeah. So Jackson Merrill. Jackson Merrill. You can open with Jackson Merrill. Of course I am, Chris. Okay. You got what we're going to do. Okay. All right. Should we just consider the Padres out? No, okay. I might as well just do them and it's simpler to just do it. All right, Tony, and it's the All-Star. Sorry? Jerks and Profar. Okay, one one. Scrappy. We can, we can, you know, Robert Suarez. Robert Suarez. All the Padres are getting taken right off the bat here. All right, Tony. Louis Arise. Louis Arise. All-Star. There's been a little controversy about Louis Arise. Have you seen this Tony at all? No. I know you and I would never agree with it. Oh, it's the it's the analytic idiots. You know, don't think it's a ring didn't get it invite. Well, I don't even know if it's him so much as they just don't think Louis Arise is an All-Star because he doesn't hit a lot of doubles, triples and home runs and they said Francisco Landor was absolutely snubbed. Even though we didn't hit 200 until like a month ago. Too bad. Louis Arise is the most fun guy to watch it in baseball. I love watching this guy. Oh, Tony says. Agreed. All right. Tutu, Scrappy. Fernando, Tati's Jr. All right, very good. Three to two. We've got five All-Stars down, 30 to go. Tony Gwen Jr. I was your Christian Walker. Christian Walker, that's going to cost you a strike. He is not on the All-Star team. I read yesterday the snubs. He's one of the biggest snubs so far. I have a feeling he'll get on as an injury replacement, but as of now, so eventually I will be right just now. Yes, eventually he will be right, but not for the purposes of today's game that will cost you a strike. Christian Walker, I think he's the biggest snub in the National League, frankly, but that's my opinion. And is your three with you? Yes, you do. All right, three, two leads, Scrappy, who you got? Just only the best pitcher that's ever pitched of all time, Paul Skins. Paul Skins. All right, Scrappy is Scrappy as a Paul Skins hater, by the way, Tony. I've got a Paul Skins hater on the media of Paul Skins hater. Yeah. All right, Tony, you're up trailing four to two here in the early going. How about you make Brian Reynolds? Brian Reynolds did make the All-Star team. That is correct. Very good. Brian Reynolds on there as an outfielder for the Pirates. Pirates got a couple of different guys on there and more than normal. They usually just get the minimum one. All right, Scrappy, you're up four to three and it's your turn. CJ Abrams. CJ Abrams. We're naming former Padres now, apparently. Scrappy leads five to three. Tony, your turn. Well, it starts to get a little thick here. How about Bryce Harper? Bryce Harper is a winner. That is correct, voted in, probably will not play in the game. And because of that, I believe that is why Christian Walker will get in, but that's unfortunately not good enough for Tony at this point. Scrappy, you got a five four lead here. You've kind of got the, you got the hammer for the moment and see if you can hang on to it. Ranger Suarez. Ranger Suarez, okay. Oh, what did I say? No, no relation to Robert Suarez. About to jump all over. Yes, he was ready to attack. It's going to be in attack mode. All right, six four. There's still 25 guys left, so. How about Mr. Ellie? Della Cruz. Ellie Della Cruz of the Reds. Very good. He is an all star for these. The Reds represent. I shouldn't tell you that because you might think there's another red later on, so I shouldn't say that. You think you're probably not in this case, but I probably shouldn't give you that information. All right, Scrappy six, Tony five. Still a ways to go here. Oh, Tony. Shohei Otani did make the all-star team. That's correct. He made it. All right, Tony, you're up. Freddie Freeman. Freddie Freeman. He did make the all-star team. That is correct. Seven to six. Scrappy continuing with a lead here. Still 20 plus answers that will be accepted. Chris Sale. Atlanta Braves pitcher. He's on there. He is a correct answer. Scrappy leads eight to six. Tony Gwen Jr. Hmm. Tony's. That's could be your category today, Scrappy. I don't know. We'll see. A lot of I saw this so many times yesterday. It's your feeling like you're going to be good. I am forgetting some now that I'm on the spot. Christian Yellich. Christian Yellich is on the all-star team for Tony Gwen. That is correct. Yellich having a nice bounce back season. That's not the starters here. Eight to seven. 20 correct answers remaining. Scrappy, you are up. Eight to seven lead. Petalonzo, who is on the all-star team instead of Christian Walker, which I think was a bad selection. All right. That is correct though. It is nine to seven. Tony, your turn. Catel Marte. Catel Marte, starting second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Correct answer there. Makes a score nine to eight. We keep on rolling along. Scrappy, name a National League All-Star. I mean, Alec Bohm has to be there. Who? Alec Bohm. Alec Bohm. Yes. All right. He is a third baseman. Correct. On the all-star team, 10-8, Scrappy maintains his advantage. Tony Gwen Jr. How about the other Philly? Trey Turner. Trey Turner. Yeah, they put him on the all-star team. That is correct. 10-9. So it's back and forth. We go here. Momma, mochi. That was so bad. Momma, mochi. I'm not getting interrupted. What was it again? I gave up on it in the middle because I felt stupid. Juicy bets. Juicy bets. Yeah, mochi bets is on the all-star team. Momma, mochi did not make it. I don't know. Is he going to be back? I don't think so. I think it's not for like two months. Yeah. It has been a month maybe. Momma, mochi. Momma, mochi. That's what it's 11 and 9. I think we're just going to try to get away from that one as quickly as possible. Tony Gwen Jr. How about Glass Now? Tyler Glass Now, correct. He is on the all-star team. Although it's not been pitching like an all-star lately. It's been struggling somewhat. 11-10. Scrappy maintains the lead. We get down to the final 14 correct answers now. Might get a little crazy here. Is jazz chisen an all-star? Is that your guess? Yeah. He is not an all-star. Jazz chisen did not make the all-star team. That was the first strike for Scrappy. And now a chance for Tony Gwen Jr. to tie it back up here if he can get a correct answer. Oh, I saw this one on IG the other day. How about the Rocky? Mr. McMahon? Ryan McMahon is the lone Rocky. That is, I shouldn't say the lone. Sorry about that. But yes, he is on the team. Ryan McMahon made it and ties it up. So we're back where we started. 11-11 with 13 correct answers remaining and both guys have a strike. Scrappy naming an all-star. Where it's going to get tricky for me is these relievers. But I'm going to go with the former Padre and Matt Strom. Matt Strom made the all-star team. Good for him. And I will say this, not a lot of middle relievers make the all-star team. Just in general. They don't get wins. They don't get saves. But Matt Strom has been almost unhittable this year. Good for him. He is on the all-star team. Correct, Scrappy. You retake the lead. 12-11 Tony Gwen Jr. again to try and tie it back up. Let's go back to the Dodger world. Will Smith? Will Smith is on the team. Yeah, Will Smith. Mr. Yeah, he and Profar are going to be sharing lockers side by side. I don't know if they will. But Mr. Mr. Relevant and Mr. irrelevant, depending on whose side you're on there. Will Smith did have a three-home run game the other dad. I don't know if he caught that. Yeah, four home runs and four at bats. We're three at bats. Well, whatever. Still, still not a fan. All right, we're back tied up again. It is 4, 8, 10, 12, 12. So we're down to the final. We're getting 11 guys on the all-star team. And I thought it might get a little interesting here. Again, be fair. Take some time. But if you don't have anybody, you got to say so. I really hope I'm getting the right guy here. And your guess is William Contreras. William Contreras. Correct. The last remaining starter. It could have been Wilson Contreras. Is that what you're going to get them confused? William is the guy from Milwaukee and he is on the all-star team. That is correct. Scrabie. Very good. 13, 12, 10 correct answers. Down closer to the nitty gritty here. Tony. Teoska. Teoska Hernandez made it from the Dodgers. He's got a nice year. Although he strikes out a ton. We are back tied up again with nine correct answers remaining. Kind of like in this game because I think it's going to be interesting here. Down the stretch. Here we go Scrabie. Stand up. Real Scrabie. Yeah, this is, this is where it gets tough. 13, 13. There are nine guys left that are correct answers. What about Kyle Schwabber? Kyle Schwabber. Carl Schwabber is on the all-star team. But Kyle is not. That is going to cost you a strike. I'm sorry. Kyle Schwabber did not make the all-star team this year. How did that guy not make the all-star team? I don't know what the tongue is. What in the best D.H. The guy they show. Hey old Tony. Are you sure they counted correctly? Oh, stupid show. Hey taking his spot. All right. So no. Now two strikes for you Scrab. Tony Gwen Jr. with a chance to take your first lead of the day and this contest. How about just getting nationally west? Cause those are the ones I can remember right now. We'll go a helliot. No. What's his last? Oh, he doesn't have it yet. Ramos. I don't know. Did Jesse Agler mouth the answer to you? No, he wouldn't do that. All right. So Tony takes his first lead. Kileot Ramos of the San Francisco Giants who didn't even start the year in the big leagues makes the all-star team. Here's a very good story. It is 14 to 13. There are only eight correct answers remaining Scrab. You must come up with one of those eight in order to stay alive in the game because you have two strikes, my friend. Um, this is this is going to get tough. Shota. Yeah. Shota. Shota. Shota. Shota. Shota. Imanaga. The Cubs is indeed an all-star this year. That is correct, Scrabie. Good job. Save yourself. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight answers left. And we are tied at 14. Is that right? No. One, two, seven answers left. Anyway, Tony, tied at 14. You're up. Logan Webb. Logan Webb. San Francisco Giants. Correct. He is on the all-star team once again, having another very consistent season for the Giants. By the way, did you guys see who's starting tonight for the Giants? Just as an aside. Um, Blake Snow. Blake Snow was back in the, uh, in the, in the, they're actually, I read this morning, they're trying to get him two starts before the all-star break. Okay. We'll see how that works. That's the interesting fact there, Scrabie. Thanks, thanks. 10, 15 to 14, Tony leads by one, six correct answers remaining. All right. Scrabie, it is down to the, uh, the bitter end here. Yeah, we're going to talk about this guy in the big five, Marcello Zuna. Yeah, that's correct. Marcello Zuna. Yeah, he did make it as the backup D.H. Show between he and even, uh, he and, he and Otani, I guess, were the ones that kept Swarborough out. That keeps you alive though, Scrabie, at 15, 15, with five correct answers remaining. That's it. Just five guys will get you a correct answer at this point. Tony Gwen Jr. your turn. I'm talking slowly because I'm trying to. Sorry, he's a Philly had a bunch. We said Harper, we said Turner, we said bone, we said strum. Oh, Zach Wheeler, Zach Wheeler, Philadelphia fillies, correct. That makes it 16 to 15 in favor of Tony. You guys have only left off four guys now that would be a correct answer. Scrabie, you need one of those four. You have two strikes in order to stay alive in today's Fantagula sports game show. Who is it going to be to save you from elimination? He is hard at thought. He is thinking things over. I'm thinking about relievers that have been good this year, relievers that have been good this year. Wait, he says, did something come to mind? No, it just went away. Wait, wait, it's back. No, I'm just kidding. A study in human behavior here. I haven't heard his name in a while, but I know he was on the All Star track. Ryan Helsley. Ryan Helsley. It's only got like 39 saves. The braids. I was waiting for you to remember him, Scrabie, because he's on your fantasy baseball team. Even better. That means he's empty. Yeah, that hurt. That hurt him. Oh, that did. I saw him. I saw when he said fantasy baseball, then I saw the light go on, then I saw him write something down. And I thought, oh, he's writing down Reynaldo Lopez right now. Tony is correct. Reynaldo Lopez makes it 17-16. There are two correct answers remaining. Scrabie, you must get one of them to stay alive. I don't know if this guy's only got one. I don't have many anymore, but I'm going to think of up and comer and I'm going to say O'Neill Cruz. O'Neill Cruz. He's hit more long home runs than anybody in baseball this year, but not enough to put him on the all-star team. I'm sorry to say that is strike three, Scrabie. You are out. Tony Gwen Jr. wins a hard fight. Match up in the fantabulous sports game show today. Man, you stole Reynaldo. You didn't steal Reynaldo Lopez because I stole it. I took him right off your plate there, buddy. That was like, I was like, oh my gosh, I'm going to take the lead in this one. And then you dug it. Reynaldo Lopez. I only had one more. And I might even have it. Did Jeff Hoffman get in? He did. Jeff Hoffman of the Phillies and the last one that nobody mentioned is the Miami Marlins representative. That's why. Reliever Tanner Scott never would have kissed Tanner Scott. Left-handed reliever. Oh, man. You know what? I usually lose by like one or two. Yes. Well, that's the design. That's the design of the game though. Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah. So that speaks to you always trying to say Chris is a picking good categories for you. You typically only lose by one or two. And this was an incredibly fair category because I'm a sports producer. If I don't see the NL roster, then I'm in trouble. So yeah, and I'm not gonna lie. I'm not always I'm much better at the historic stuff than I am at the like current stuff. I don't know. You sounded pretty good on the current stuff right there. I got that one. I got that one. I was in my face. It's been in my face the past week. If you would have told me a.l. I don't know. I thought about doing American League, but I didn't think it would be as entertaining of a game because I knew it'd be a lot tougher for both sides. Fantabulous sports game show in the books. Tony Gwen Jr. has another title. You can have a title of champion of Chris versus the fans when we come back and play some trivia. And welcome back to it. San Diego going in Chris. Hour number three here on 97 through the fan Christolo Tony Gwen Jr. champion once again after an outstanding matchup in the fantabulous sports game show. Reynaldo Lopez winds up being the the Lynch pin answer that wins it for Tony Gwen Jr. and loses it for Matt Scrabby just holding my head down right now. I did check your sheet between break and you did have his name written down. I did. So you had just thought of it that instant. Yep. And then wrote it down and then Tony guessed it. Yep. And that was the winning guess. Yeah, that's going to hurt a little bit for a little bit. Sorry about that. 35 all stars. Now there's a 36 because Hunter Green has been added in replacing the injured Tyler Glass now who according to the Scrabby Chronicles is not injured at all. The Dodgers just using a fugazi trip to the injured list to buy him some rest. And I hate to say I agree with it. It just makes too much sense. So God has never pitched more than 120 innings. He's already 109. So strike up the conspiracy music. Glass now goes to the injury list just so he can rest a little bit. If this was like, I don't know, say September, are we doing this? Probably not, Chris. Probably not. I don't know that you're wrong on this one, Scrab. A ridiculous thing to say. Fugazi. Fugazi. Fugazi. Phillies have reactivated Bryce Harper and Kyle Swarber. So those two sluggers are back for the National League's best team, or at least the one with the best record. Some other baseball news for you. On this Tuesday, we gave you a couple of things, Rafael Devers, out of the All-Star game. Why? You didn't hear it the first time. He's got a shoulder problem. So the Red Sox are going to be missing him. And I think that's kind of all I have for you right now. And you know why? Because my computer screen is stuck. So I can't find it. Yeah. Okay. I was trying to find a couple of more notes, but my computer screen completely stuck there for a moment. Yeah, your camera is bugging. It happens. Phil Maiton. Remember him? Yeah, he's going to the Mets. Okay. They just got him from the Tampa Bay Rays. Yeah, I don't know that that immediately turns the Mets into World Series contenders, but it does help them in the bullpen. And we mentioned this earlier, but Guardian's 3B Jose Ramirez becomes the sixth to be named a contender in this year's home run Derby. The Derby, the Derby, which is on Monday in Major League Baseball. All right, Padres and Mariners coming up 630 this evening. Logan Gilbert, speaking of All-Stars, who would have been an answer had we've been looking at American League All-Stars. He'll be pitching against a Padres young right hander, Adam Major tonight out at the ballpark pregame show with Sam Levitt 530 following our show. Oh my gosh, Chris, did you hear you didn't hear this? So last Wednesday after we did our show, right? Because you were done for you, you were on to your weekend. I was. I absentmindedly took the laptop charger from here and put it in my bag. And I get a text from our guy, Nick Tenuchi, like 20 minutes later. Hey, man, do you know where the laptop charger is? And I'm like, because you got to have that. In order. Do not move. Do not move. What part of that did you not understand when you moved it? No, it wasn't showing. If this was showing, I would have not taken it. Oh, the other side was turned out. Apparently, I kicked Sam Levitt off of the YouTube because I took the charger and the computer died. And Sam, to his credit, has never said anything to me about this. It's the listeners that have told me all about this. I feel really bad still. So you you torpedoed his pregame show last week? Basically, yes. Well done. And I know how serious Sam gets. Well, he also does an outstanding job. And well, he'll put that to the test this afternoon when he pre games. The Padre Mariner showdown for tonight. I believe it'll be Jesse and Scan on the radio call tonight. I'm only saying that because Tony told us he'll be on TV this evening. One last thing about that story that so I had to turn around. But I was already on the freeway. It was Wednesday before 4th of July. And I was about 10 miles away. It took me. You turned around and brought it back to they had no chargers here. Wow. And it was one of the most frustrating things because it was all my fault. I could only blame myself. Yep. All right. Long as you look in the mirror. All right. With all of that, as a lead in, I remind you that before the show is over today, you're going to have a chance to win a pair of Padre tickets to tomorrow's game against the Mariners. First 40,000 fans tomorrow will receive Padre throwback hats, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Get tickets at Padres dot com slash tickets. That's later right now. It's Chris versus the fans. If you had one shot, one opportunity to take down the human all manack himself. How do you do? Now is your time. Listen to me. This guy is dangerous. Now is your opportunity to win a prize. Well, I hope you know what Jen for Chris versus the fans starts now on 97 three, the fan. All right. Yes, I don't know where my well, you said the rhythm and that's my brain. That's your rhythm. That's your rhythm. All right. You have to make it through three questions. Each question is going to get more difficult. If you get the question right, you move on. If you get it wrong and Chris gets it right, you're eliminated. But if Chris gets it wrong, then you move on to the next question or you win. If you're a first time player, let us know before the first question. You will get that one for free. Let's go to our first contestant. We'll be Bill in San Diego. Bill. Hello. Hey, Bill. Hey, how you guys doing? Pretty good. Sure. Pretty good. Here we go. We're going to get into it. Question number one. In 2014 at the age of 26, which Dodger became the youngest pitcher to win his third career Sayon award. Kershaw. Kershaw is very good. Kershaw. Yes. Three sayons. Does he have a fourth? I don't know if he does, actually. I'll look it up. Okay. Move on with the game. Here we go. Question number two, Bill. There are only two Padres players who have had a season with the Padres with an OPS over 1000. Name both. In the history of the team. In the history of the team, only two guys have done it in an entire season. Oh, good. Uh, I'll go Cam and Eddie and Bonn. Interesting guess might be right. Who is this? Oh, Bonn. I thought you said Bonn's like he doesn't play for the Padres. Go ahead, Bonn. All right. Stay there, Bill. Stay there. Okay. OPS over a thousand. Yes, first. The only two Padres who have ever done it. I thought Greg Bonn was a really good guess and I thought Cam and Eddie was a really good guess. So I got to go with, um, you know, one of those two and I'm going to just for the hell of a go with Tony is another and I'll say Tony Gwynne and Ken Kameniti. Oh, I'm sorry, Bill. I'm so sorry. When did Tony make it? Was it the 391 year? I would have to go. I'll look it up. Okay. You don't want to go on. First, I've got three Cy Youngs. I looked that up. So he doesn't have a fourth and I'll look Tony up real quick while you move on to the next contestant. We're going to go to Luke in San Diego. Tony's. Tony's. Sorry, Luke. Tony. Yes. Tony's OPS over a thousand was a 94. The Erie hit 394. Okay. Okay. Luke. How are you? Luke got to know that radio, please. Turn the radio down, Luke. Oh, you're way behind. Luke's going to hear in a second me calling him on. Turn the radio down. It's the first job of a sports radio caller, but I should add that to our rules. Keep your radio down. Maybe you should mention that next time. Here we go to our next contestant. Yeah, Luke. I mean, Luke just lost out. He's going to be like, oh, that's me. No, you're not there anymore. Emilio. Hey, Emilio. Emilio's here. All right. Emilio. Emilio way to go. Here we go. Question number one. Yes. Former college basketball player. Zach Edie played for Purdue, but was drafted by which NBA team. Tricky could be tricky. What was the name? Zach Edie. Zach Edie. He's like a college player of the year. It's like 90. Oh, yeah. Oh, damn. I always get the basketball questions. I'm gonna go with the 70 pictures. The 76ers. Emilio is not a basketball guy. Sorry, Emilio. Sorry about that, Emilio made his debut last night for the Memphis Grizzlies and had a double double. Sorry about that, Emilio in the summer. I'm gonna remember. That's two best Emilio. Yes. If you hit your recall, Emilio, don't go basketball on him. Oh, Emilio hung up on himself. Emilio, if you're still listening, just tell us next time. I promised I would never, I wouldn't give you a basketball. We wouldn't do it on purpose, Emilio. It's always the look of the draw. It is. I really did. Did you say something about his tip in last night? No, but it tied the game like in the final seconds. There was 0.8 seconds left. And then Anna Blousing. There was a free throw. There was a couple free throws. Oh, the team ended up losing. But Zach Edie just goes out of nowhere with his long arms and just tips it back in. Save the day. He was heroic there for a moment. Yeah, they say that his debut was very strong. You know, it's funny as I was kind of originally rooting against Zach Edie to do well in the pros. Now I'm really rooting for him to do well in the pros because I kind of want some sort of semblance of an inside game. I don't like what the Celtics have done to basketball. Somehow this got back to the selfie. I don't like, you know, chucking up 83 pointers a game and that winning you a championship. But it did. So that may not have to like it. Let's try Luke again. Hey, you're going to take another shot. Luke, are you there? Oh boy, Luke, get to radio down and you're good to go. Yes. Can you hear us? Yep. All right. Good to go. All right. Here we go. Luke, is there anything you need to tell me? Uh, you know, it might not be the best at basketball, but I'll give it a shot. Oh, okay. No, no, no, I was going to say something else, but here we go. Also, also, it is my first time. There we go. First time. That's what's, that's what Scrabby was hinting at. So you are a first time player. You go right to category two. Yes. Or less level two. What no longer standing MLB stadium has hosted the most all star games in major league history. grounds. I don't like it. Well, we'll grab longer stand. Oh, you like it because you play in the play. Then I'll be in the show. I'm thinking. Oh, geez. No longer standing. No longer standing. That's a good one. It's a good one. Scrabby. Stay there, Luke, because I think you got a good chance to move on. I don't know why it keeps popping into my head, but I only remember one all star game there. Tiger Stadium. Tiger Stadium. Yeah. Wow. What is it? Old Yankee Stadium. Old Yankee. That was kind of a tricky one. Kind of a tricky one, but I do like hint of no longer standing. That was good. I actually thought of no Yankee Stadium. Old Yankee. And I didn't dismiss it. I will give Brandon on the chat credit because he typed that before he had time to look that up. So good job. All right. Here we go. Luke. Question number three. You get this right. Chris gets it wrong. You're qualified for Las Vegas. The last all star game to have a lead off home run happened in 2015. Who was the batter? Oh, man. 2015 lead off. Lead off. I remember this. He's a tiger. So I'm thinking back in 2015. Maybe he was there. Austin Jackson's completely random name. That is a random name. Also kind of weird that you said Tiger Stadium. He's a Tigers fan. It was a what was it was a lead off home run? Well, that's also a game of lead off. I honestly remember the guy like walking up and hitting a home run. But I just can't think of who it is. Yeah. 2000. I don't know. Julio Rodriguez wasn't even playing yet. Please make a decent game. Mike Trout. Oh, wow. I'm so sorry out there. I was already getting the form for you to win. It's so unlucky, Luke. That is very lucky. You are the unluckiest guy ever. That is very unlucky. I just honestly threw a name out there. I had no clue. Yeah, Mike Trout. Oh, he did. Wow. Sorry about that. That's too bad, Luke. All right. We got a good tiebreaker tiebreaker. Those are the breaks of the game. Who do we just breaks in the game? I just denied the guy a trip to Las Vegas with a ridiculous pull out of nowhere. Who should our random athlete be? Oh, Ben Ogilvy. Wow. I'm talking. You said round him. Yeah, no, you didn't. Oh, G-I-L-V-I-E. Okay, I got it. I got it. Forman Milwaukee Brewer Slugger, Detroit Tiger, and Boston Red Sox, right? But he was a most famous as a member of Bambi's bombers. There were nicknames that were on a different level. Great names back then. The 82 Brewers had a lot of home runs. Their manager was George Bamburger, so they referred to them as Bambi's bombers. They also called them Harvey's Wallbangers. I remember you saying they were like last week. When they were managed by Harvey Keene. So they had two good nicknames back in those days. Ben Ogilvy was part of that. All right. Mr. Ogilvy getting a mention today. Yes. Let's go to Jason and Marietta. Jason, have you ever played the tiebreaker before? No, first time player. Oh, all right. Well, save that for next time. Now, you're still in the game here, but the next time you call in, yeah, I'll tell you the regular part of the game, you'll still be a first-time player. Yeah, so the rules are this. I'm going to ask Chris a question. He's going to have to give me a number. It's going to be a stat. You guess whether Chris's answer is higher or lower than the actual number? No. Gosh, I messed that up again. I'll give an answer. You guess whether the real answer is higher or lower. Sorry about that. All right. You'll see how it works. Here we go. Create the question. How many? I'm just going to go right for it. How many home runs did Ben Ogilvy hit? In his career. Sixteen year career, he had 226 home runs. That's not correct. I said 226 home runs for Ben Ogilvy. Okay. The question is that's not correct. Uh, Jason. Jason, yes. Jason. Is the actual answer higher or lower than 226 for Ben Ogilvy's home runs? I'm going to say lower. He's going to say lower. He's going to say lower. He's right. He got it. How many have been hit? You were saying there, Jason. You were so close. He had 235. Oh, wait. So the answer is higher. He got it wrong. Wait, what did you say? I said 226. Oh my gosh. I'm sorry about that, Jason. I just, I just see this confused me. I was looking at the clock and seeing how late we are. I was getting crazy. No, give it to Jason. All right. You gave him the prize. Scrappy is the screw up of the day. But Jason wins the prize and a crazy edition of Chris versus the fans. We got to check traffic, though, right now. I'm going to make a false statement. Scrappy, you tell me whether the actual answer to this is higher or lower. Oh my gosh. Are we going to do this all day? We're going to try. The time is 4.24 p.m. Is it actually higher or lower? Oh, I think it's a higher Chris. Neither higher nor lower. It's later than 4.24. Chris is having fun with this. 4.27. This is having fun with this. Yeah, I know. Well, I tell you what, thank you for Jason. Was he ecstatic that you gave him the prize? Yeah, he was pretty excited. Good luck to him. I hope he wins the trip to Las Vegas. Sorry to the rest of you, but we didn't have a whole lot of time left anyway. Does everybody know what's happening a week from today? Of course you don't. Scrappy, you want to take a guess at this? A week from today is Tuesday, the All-Star game. Ah, correct. But I'm looking for something better than that. The training camp. I have no idea. Yes. Rookies report to training camp next Tuesday, July 16th. Wow. Yeah. When is training camp starting? We're close. We're close. Football. Get me in there. Two weeks for the veterans report on show time. Stop it. Didn't you tell me that he is off now doing WWE stuff? He's also doing his play by play, but he is he is so perfect for WWE because he makes everything more exciting than it actually is. I don't know his breathless announcing style will work perfectly for WWE. I didn't know that Pat McAfee is an announcer for Monday Night Raw, like they're thinking that Joe is Monday Night Raw. Oh, that's a wrestling franchise. And then so, well, it's WWE, but they have like two different shows as they have raw and they have Smackdown and they're thinking that Joe's has to towards going to do Smackdown. Whatever. I honestly can't keep up with all of it. I, you know, I think we're not we're supposed to talk about sports on this show. Okay. That's my argument against talking about WWE stuff is sports though. Sure it is. It's sports entertainment because those guys are some of the most in gals or some of the most athletic people on the planet, Chris, try to do some of the stuff that they do and you can't. I don't want to do some of the stuff that they do. I just looked up all the training camp dates. Do you think the Houston Texans are a little perturbed that the veterans are have to be there the same days the rookies? I wonder why that is everywhere else. The rocket's come and changed. Yeah. By the way, did you hear about the the hurricane in Houston? There's a hurricane. Is it barrel? Yes. Is that something like that? Yeah. It's it's happening. I mean, it's caused some deaths. Yeah, no, it's bad related. I mean, it's been a very bad hurricane. Tour some of the tiles off the roof at the Houston Texans stadium, energy stadium, which is hosted the Super Bowl in the past. Yeah, that's crazy. So that's a strong storm, really. That's us. You know, another another good reason to live in San Diego, where I don't see too many hurricanes charging through town often. Well, we did have a hurricane watch last year and I remember that. We had it so I'm so mad because nothing happened. And we were on hurricane watch and I mean, Lori practically had us lying under a mattress in the bathtub. We were so worried about it. Wait, you did not. We didn't do it. But I said she practically had us doing that real quick because we were supposed to be so scared of this hurricane that turned into like the sky spitting on us for two hours. Brandon has a great reason as to why the veterans have to come in the same day as the rookies. The Texans are in the Hall of Fame game. They're playing the playing on August 1st. Very good. Brandon, you're Brandon, you're on it. You're scoring today, man. All right, good job, Brandon. Break time coming up. Short segment there. Little longer one now. When we return, it's the big five. Mind her, stay tuned an hour from right now. It's the eco water. So Cal Padres pregame show with Sam Levitt. It's after this program on 97 three, the fan also coming up between now and then chance for you to win two tickets to tomorrow's game between the Padres and Mariners. Make sure you stay tuned for your opportunity coming up in the next 60 minutes, probably a little, you know, sooner than that. So don't go anywhere and take a shot. You might get to go to the game tomorrow. We're going to do some big five now. It's that time of the show when we check on the latest in sports. Only the most important topics and questions are brought to light. Stop what you're doing and listen. These news stories will astound and amaze you. The one, the only. Oh my god, who the hell cares. The big five starts now on 97 three, the fan. All right. Nice to have Tony back for the big five and we're going to start with something slightly controversial today and I don't, you know, number five. I don't mean to be sensationalist about this, but I did see a lot of conversation. It's actually all about the home run Derby and the selection of Marcelo Zuna. Now we know the past, but I will explain, Ozuna has been arrested twice before for domestic violence related defenses. He was reinstated to Major League Baseball after charges were dropped and he completed a pretrial diversion program for police. I know where you think I'm going guys. And yes, there are many tentacles that go in the Trevor Bauer direction, but many think Major League Baseball could have avoided any of this conversation just by asking someone else. Tony, should Major League Baseball have asked someone else to participate? I mean, to me, this doesn't make any sense, right? I mean, he's already an all star. So it's okay to be an all star. We just don't want you to be in the home run Derby. Like, I don't know. It's a good point. What is the, what are you trying to accomplish by not having him there? Because guess what? Come all star game. They're going to have the starting lineups and they're going to actually run out to the starting line or be out on the line in which his name will be mentioned. So I think this is, I'll say that I understand it. But what I gather is that they're putting him on a, they're basically like saying, Hey, look at this great guy. This is what I see. That's not, that's, that's not what they're doing though. They're, they're picking contestants for a home run Derby. Clearly, they, not everybody wants to do it as we know. And so they probably ask guys that said they wanted to do it or were willing to participate. I don't think Major League Baseball is trying to say, Hey, this guy is an awesome guy. He's out hitting home runs. I just think they need somebody or they wanted to take people who will want it to participate. Chris, Major League Baseball asked someone else to participate. Well, first of all, I'm just thinking of one name in particular, but Josh Hamilton had plenty of do demons, different demons, but demons nonetheless and was celebrated as a home run Derby participant several years ago champion, etc. All time record performance. Here's the simple difference between Marcelo Zuna and Trevor Bauer. Marcelo Zuna is deemed by baseball to have done whatever it is necessary for them to welcome him back to the game. He has done whatever he's needed to legally to be a free man and have taken care of whatever responsibilities he had there. And baseball deems him to be, you know, eligible to play baseball does not deem Trevor Bauer to be eligible to play. And, you know, so as long as that's the case, Marcelo Zuna should be eligible to take part in a contest like this. And Trevor Bauer should continue to stay where he does. And I don't really have a problem with Trevor Bauer staying where he does. I'm a little tired of every single time somebody, you know, I don't know. Scratches somebody behind the ears. You know, it's like, Oh, we got to let Trevor Bauer back in the game, I guess. You know, no, we don't have to let him back in the game. And, you know, baseball's, I don't know, are we missing him that badly? To be fair, Major League Baseball hasn't deemed him not worthy of playing Major League Baseball teams and owners who have to rewrite it. Have said it to this point, no thank you. So, you know, take that for what you look. Take that for data. That's right. I think that's the number one question in my DMS the past week or two is, should the Padres bring in Trevor Bauer? We've already talked and here's your number one answer. Okay. Number four, we're going to move on Chris. I brought this up on the scraping show last night and wanted to get your guys opinion. Apparently Joe Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and I think alike. He recently said if the NFL goes to an 18 game regular season, he would like to see the NFL Institute two by weeks with one of those occurring at week 13 for every single team. Then during that by week, there would be the Pro Bowl festivities and it will feel more like the NBA all star weekend and all that. So Chris, do you think this is a good idea if they go to 18 regular season games? I think if Joe Burrow didn't already have enough money, he ought to consider running for player commissioner. I think it makes perfect sense. First of all, the two by weeks, I believe has been done before in the NFL. Yeah, even when they had the 16 game schedule, when they added some teams, I believe there was at least one maybe two years where they played 16 games over 18 weeks. So there's absolutely no reason why you can't have two by weeks with an 18 game schedule. And I think his idea is very good too. I mean, the best idea of all, honestly, would be to get rid of the stupid Pro Bowl and all the activities. But you know, enough people seem to like it. I think you're speaking for me there, not against me. I did enjoy watching those guys go out. But I will say this, I like when somebody has a well thought out idea and presents it, not just off the cuff, you know, not just here's what we got to do and not really think it through. It sounds like Joe Burrow thought it through. And I think he's, I think he's right. So that's why Joe Burrow and I are like Tony, do you think this is a good idea? Oh, I don't know if it's a good idea or that, but I think it's well thought out. I think, you know, if you really want to have a Pro Bowl, and I don't know that you could really have like an actual football game Pro Bowl. It just doesn't make any sense. But if you're going to do it, I think you could stretch it out an extra week, give it two weeks for if you're going to have the 18 game season, you're going to put the Pro Bowl in the middle and celebrate the best players of the first half. I think you should give it two weeks. What's the difference? Right? We are, it's not like nobody. So you're saying instead of two separate occasions, it would be one big bi week? No, I'm saying you keep the bi week, the two bi weeks, right? So I guess it'd be end up being three bi weeks. Oh, okay. Yeah. So but you just combine those two bi weeks together. And you know, now you got a little more downtime for these guys, not to say that they can't like get back into like some type of camp or whatever it is during that second week. But I think if you really want to have the Pro Bowl, you're going to have to give them more time. Yeah. But the only reason that I don't agree with that plan is I can't imagine two Sundays in a row without Scott Hanson. What have Scott Hanson? I mean, we do a bunch of Sundays come the off season. I mean, I'm just sure we can add a couple Sundays together so we can stretch out the NFL. Yeah. And I don't really have a problem with the NFL season stretching out as long as it can. You know, right now it's only about 28 weeks total. I mean, let's go. It's a national. Let's go 40 weeks. I mean, it's the greatest thing in the world. I want to have the time back to president's day weekend, which would be in the February like 20th. Have the Super Bowl on Easter. I could share less. Sure. Baseball baseball season is started. Spread it out, baby. I hate it. Sure. Just stop eating yourself NFL. That's what's happening here. Speaking of the Christmas, Chris is giving me the eyes and that was a way to move on. Dak Prescott has undoubtedly heard the noise regarding the status of his right foot has decided to provide an update less than three weeks before the start of training camp. He was pictured wearing a boot on his foot. And so he said, honestly, I'm getting older. It was the same ankle that I snapped and had a mastery surgery on four years ago. So yeah, a couple hard days of training, you get a little sore, then you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and make sure things don't get worse. Literally, it is absolutely nothing. People are reaching trying to make things that they aren't. I'm getting older, have to take care of my body, I have to be smart, and if I can take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I'm going to do it. Sorry, that caused such a whirlwind end quote Tony. We sometimes say, or at least I sometimes say, if there's smoke, there is fire. So if there is a boot, is there an injury? No, not necessarily. I mean, you just walk around with boots on to try to help his so he doesn't hurt himself. Do they have some type of camp? Are they throwing the football around? I think they were doing something, right? Yeah, they had like those OTAs and stuff, but he was talking about fishing trips. He's wearing a boot. Well, when they send you home from the field and you got like an ankle injury, they usually send you home in a boot, right? So now he's just fishing with the boot. I don't know. This doesn't seem like much of anything other than him wearing a boot during the offseason. And people with Dallas overreacting to every single thing that happened. This is this is kind of par for the course over. It's especially in Dallas. And like, you know, for Dallas fans' sakes, I understand the overreaction. I mean, nothing goes right for you so I can see how you'd be a pessimist to everything that, you know, comes your way. So, you know, I think you just chalked us up to Dallas fans being Dallas fans. All right, Chris, what do you think? If there is a boot, is there an injury? I don't think so. I think he's just being careful. And frankly, if he's my quarterback, I want him to be careful. So, you know, made hate to see him get hurt, doing something he enjoys in the offseason. Right. I mean, if you're going to be in bubble wrap, they should be in bubble wrap. I mean, these quarterbacks should walk around just at home in bubble wrap. You know, I mean, who's the guy that sliced his finger, cutting, cutting burger, cutting open something, a burger, right? I don't know. I mean, it's happened, right? So I, yeah, the overreaction is absurd. I think to a tango by low, put on one pound, or at least it was reported that he put on one pound. And literally, that was pretty much him being run out of Miami being a lot of people's minds. Hey, you know, the great thing about the NFL is that we care about it. The worst thing about the NFL is that we care too much about the wrong things. You know, guys, about six months, I'm just going to start wearing my sling for my shoulder. If you're going to feel more comfortable, God love it. As long as you can push the buttons. I can't push the button. All right. Number two. Now, Novak Djokovic easily beat 15 seated. Correct me if I'm wrong, Chris Holger. Runa. Okay. He says, okay. Yeah, six, three, six, four, six, two, and just over two hours Monday night to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals, then make sure to get the message across to those fans. He thought we're against them. Runa's supporters at various tournaments often will say his name is rude, which, you know, can be misconstrued as boo. And I got to tell you, dude, I was about to like talk trash to you after your comment about the shoulder sling and you being able to push buttons. Yeah. And this is a good example, ladies and gentlemen, why, you know, don't say the first thing that comes to your mind. What did I do? I had only looked at like our two 15 spot and, you know, some of the spots from earlier today that weren't filled out. And then I kind of gradually scrolled down before I opened my mouth and saw all of this type of button pushing you have been doing towards the bottom of it. And, you know, I'm glad I caught myself because you would have had you would have had the right to scream on me right there. Oh, you were saying you were going to bring up that I didn't fill in anything. Yes. He restrained himself. He's talking about the talking about the quality move of restraint. I see. Okay. I like it. But what about two o'clock it says, better cup begins. That was my big note. Yeah, that was a big note. We went over that already. The problem with today, if we're going to go in this direction for a second, the problem with today is Chris and I just talked about everything from over the weekend yesterday and they haven't played another game. Yeah. Today's the beginning of the week. The week for me. Yeah. So this is all fresh for you. For us, we've beat this into the ground a little bit. All right. So Novak Djokovic, they said it was boo. That happened yesterday. He actually had a message to his fans in his post match interview. And here is what he said. And I had to cut it down because it was very long. And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case, me, have a good night. Good night. Good night. Very good night. Yeah. I'm hoping that they were just commenting on Runa and that they weren't disrespecting you. They were. They were. They were. I don't accept it. No, no, no. I know they were, I know they were cheering for Runa, but that's an excuse to also boo. Listen, I've been on the tour for more than 20 years. So trust me, I know all the tricks. I know how it works. It's fine. It's fine. It's okay. I focus on the respectful people. They have respect that pay the ticket to come and watch tonight and love tennis and appreciate the players and the effort that the players put in here. I played in much more hostile environment. Trust me, you guys, you guys can't touch me. So there's what he said. Very good. Novak. He is considered a sports villain. I think that was pretty hilarious and great. Chris, do you consider Novak Jocovitch a sports villain? No, I just consider him a little polarizing. You know, I didn't agree with all of the stances he's taken. But you know what, he believes in certain things and that's his right to believe in certain things. And it's also the fans right to root against him. You know, I mean, I don't think that I don't think tennis fans have to go into the stadium and root for both players all the time. I think by and large, people respect Jocovitch and his amazing play. You know, he felt like he was being booed a little bit. He's probably right. He might have been being booed a little bit and he got the last laugh in on them. I think that was pretty, I think that was pretty creative by him. Tony, do you consider Novak Jocovitch a sports villain? No, he's just an ass. You don't like him? I don't know. I mean, first of all, we've all, I mean, at this point, I'm 42 years old. I'll be 42 years old. I'll be 42 years old. I'll be 42 and I'll be in October. And I'm old enough to know that, you know, fans, if you have a name that is kind of in the boo, doesn't mean that fans are actually booing you. And if I don't know the gentleman that he played and Chris, you would know more than me. I just feel like, why are you, if it doesn't really bother you and they can't really touch you, you use, I don't know what, five minutes of your post game interview to address it, for some reason that it didn't bother you at all. And you know, you've been in much more hostile environments, yet you took the time to have this conversation after things. So clearly, it did bother you. And I think he's a little soft because it bothered him quite frankly, like you're a professional athlete, you should be able to handle, you know, especially, let me rephrase, when you're great, like him, you're going to walk into places where people want you to lose. Can we go through the list of greats that have had to go through that? I mean, every guy in basketball, every guy in baseball, you know, when Manny goes as a plated, any other pose in the spot, he gets, he gets booed. It's a, actually, it's a sign of respect, isn't it? They don't boo. I haven't heard that before. They don't boo like regular dudes out there. That's right. I just take issue with him saying that he wasn't bothered by it, but clearly was bothered by it. I just want to say he's not a villain, though. Okay. I just want to say that when I say something and hit the mark, Tony often says, I should have said what Chris said. On this one, I want to jump in and say, I should have said what Tony said, because I think he hit it right on the mark. You're right. It's the psychology of if it doesn't bother you, then why are you taking the time to address? Yeah, he should be too good for all this stuff. That's my point. Like, he's literally one of the greatest to ever play tennis. And yet, he, this isn't the first time he's taken issue, by the way, with fans and using his post-game interviews to address it. I think this is like the second or third time that I can remember, and it's just like, I don't know, I can't remember. Give me a break. Give me just any, better. Can't remember. Well, he seemed like he was below. There are some things that he was beautiful. I'm saying any great that the sides from the Roger Federer's or the Tony Gwen's, mostly all of them all get booed and, you know, have to deal with it at some point. That's true. And I don't think I remember anybody like addressing the boos in their post-game comments. Like, you know, it's just, you know, I'm out here. Like, I can't think of LeBron or Michael or Wayne Gretzky or anybody addressing boos after their game. I don't know. That would be like, because the Padres get booed, or got booed earlier in the year, that would be like, one of the Padres grabbing the mic and being like, stop booing us. Like, what are you doing? Right. What were we talking about the next day? We'd be like, why would you ever grab the mic and say that? That is true. I didn't think about it like that. I'm just like, I don't know. He seemed a little sensitive in the scenario. Maybe he's working on a stand-up comedian career, because that was pretty funny. But that was the other thing. And maybe it gets lost in translation, right? Because the boo part was actually funny, and like, it, it didn't seem to fit with the kind of disrespect comment that he gave just before that. Yeah, then he went down the dark path. Right. You know, it seemed like it was, I couldn't tell in early in it if he was like, joking upset. You did have some sort of smile while he was saying. But then at the end, he seemed like he was a little bit upset. His next opponent is a guy by the name of Alex D. Menar. So I don't believe there'll be any confusion this time. If they're booing him, they're gonna definitely be booing him. So he'll know. Number one. All right. So this was my daily gripe last night, and I want to get your guys' thoughts. You put yourself in this situation. You're in a store where you need to go to a cash year before you leave to pay like a convenience store, a grocery store, whatever. You get to said cashier and the cashier doesn't look up to you or at you and acknowledge you are ready to pay. So you're just kind of standing there awkwardly. Tony, how long would you wait before you say something to a cashier that's not recognizing you? That's a good question. Because I have been in this situation before and I waited. I felt like forever. And I never said anything. And eventually said cashier looked up. I mean, when you think about this, it's gonna sound short. But it's actually a long time. I'd say like 45 seconds. Oh, no. That's an eternity. That's an eternity. Wow. Four or five seconds. You meant four or five seconds. Not forty five. Yeah. I was gonna say 30, but I thought that was too small to be sure. It's probably more like 30 seconds. Like I would wait like a little smirk on my face for a little bit like. Would you go? Can't you just throw the money on the counter and make a little noise? No, I won't. I'm gonna put your stuff on the counter. Like, I might, I might make, you know, the courtesy fake cough. Yeah. Excuse me. Or, you know, like, you know, if you got the stuff, like, I was a cashier doing when you put up to them on the phone, on their phone. I mean, that's a part of it. Because, you know, there's other cashiers that are like reading the newspaper or something. Can I just tell you that today when we were golfing at Mission Bay, there was a young lady in the fairway and the whole ahead of us on her phone. Are you checking yardages? No, she was talking to somebody on her phone. Well, her playing partners were already up on the green. She was standing in the fairway talking on the phone, then put the phone away and hit her shot. Chris, we'll devote 30 minutes to that tomorrow. We could devote an hour to that. I'm talking about the cashier. Tony says forty five seconds, was I think his apparently rising is thirty. Okay, thirty. Chris? Four to five. I don't have time. Five. Don't have time for the stuff. What would you do when you'd be like, hey, I'm already tired of waiting behind the slow guy who can't fish out his money or is driving trouble remembering his code that he punches into the computer. So I'm already frustrated and angry. You're not doing that. Like you walk up. You're the first guy up there. This is why they're not paying attention because no one was in line before you. Yeah, I'm not waiting around. As a guy who worked at a bank, there's something that drives me insane about people that come up to the window without me calling them because you know what? You seem like that guy. Oh my gosh, I have thousands of dollars in cash sitting right in front of me that I'm trying to sort. You can't come over because it's a scary. Always have thousands of dollars in cash. You just want to have the power to be like, Nope, not yet. Yes, you know what? You know what I'm waiting for you next. You know what I hate more about the bank guy that sits behind there and counts his money while I'm standing there. The thing I hate more is the bank guy who looks up at me and then closes his window before I can walk up doing that. Yeah, no wonder I couldn't stand any bank people and I don't go to the bank anymore. You know what? I would help people who were in front of the line and they looked at me and they didn't come forward and I would help them one last time. You're giving all bank tellers a bad name right now. I think bank tellers are kind of in my corner. If you're a bank teller you are. If you're a bank teller and you are like me because I know there's lots of people out there. What kind of person looks up at a customer who's been standing there for 45 minutes, looks at them and then politely closes their little window right on you. Maybe it's so the guy that like is like fish eyeing you while he's pretending to look down and do something busy to make sure you're not walking to his line before he calls you over so he could be like, Excuse me, could you please wait till I call you in? No, yeah, you're right, you're right. Yeah, it's like, you're power hungry, Scrabby, you're power. No, when I go on lunch, I click the thing and I roll the window out and I look over and I said, someone will be right with you. And there you do. I walk away. Jerk. I'm glad you got this guy on his phone at the convenience store. Yeah, you deserved it. I just threw my items on the counting. I'm just kidding. All right, so for the big five when we get back, we'll get you set for this game between the Mariners and the Padres tonight here on 97 through the fans. Hey, we roll into the happy hour and it's going to be a happy hour for somebody out there for sure. We welcome you back to winning Chris. The reason is something's going to be really happy. Maybe it's even you listening right now. We're going to be giving it parrot tickets away to tomorrow's Padres Mariners game probably within the next 10 minutes or so. So stick around for that opportunity. Potters and Mariners tomorrow afternoon. First 40,000 fans have received Padre throwback hats celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Get tickets at Padres.com/tickets or win a pair right here with going in Chris, Chris Ello, Tonygun Jr. down at Petco where he and Donorsillo being some TV tonight. Jesse Agler on the radio call here following Sam Levitt's Ecowater SoCal pregame show, which starts shortly. Do I dare say this, Scrappy? Oh, no. Oh, yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Padres win tonight. They could be only six and a half games out of first place. Wow. That's close to my thought. It's a little closer than it. You know, you would think, right? Yeah. Filies are pounding the Dodgers nine to one right now in the fifth inning. Yes, they are. Trade Turner had a grand slam. Does that does that still upset Padre fans every time Trade Turner does something since he was originally our property or property? Yes. I don't know. We had we had first control of him on the Monopoly board before he was shuffled along. All I know is that Trade Turner doesn't like the West Coast. I mean, and I'm saying that seriously. He didn't like it. That's a good point when he played for the Dodgers. He does he outwardly said I would want to go back to the East Coast. So junior says no, he's he's all good with it. He's all good with Trade Turner at this point. Good. Yeah. Anyway, nine one fillies over the Dodgers in the fifth. Padres, some pregame stuff to discuss here. Zander Bogart. If you hadn't heard Kevin A.C. tweet now that he'll probably be back, not Kevin A.C., but Zander Bogart's will probably be back in the lineup by Friday. Padres expecting him back for the weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. So Bogart's was out there today. Had a participated in, I guess they call it a simulated inning. Yeah, Tony was explaining it. I didn't really get all of it, but I mean, just let everybody try to kind of figure it out on their own. He's basically just him taking it back. That's right. He just stands here and takes a bunch of it bats. It's more so than just batting practice. I guess. Yes, they try to simulate that you're actually in a game as opposed to just hitting, you know, pitch after pitch after pitch. We did have a on MLB network. They had a live looking at the batting thing and they had guys running on base, like things like that. They did a hole. They did a whole, they did a whole sure bang. Yes. All right. So Zander is obviously close. You know, probably going to be in the lineup Friday. So Mike Schult was asked today where Zander is a Bogart's going to play when he comes back. I would expect when Bogie's playing, he'll play second base and when Crony's in the field, he'll play first. So the answer question, yes, but I think you'll see a variation of, you know, DH is in different alignments. There you go. Thank you, Mike Schult. I see a lot of some of my favorite answers I've heard from Mike Schult this year who had actually said something short and to the point and he didn't say, well, we'll see, you know, we'll kind of figure it out when it's Friday and, you know, we're still going over some options and looking at this and looking at that all the coach speak. And I'm, yeah, and I'm not poking at Mike Schult. That's every coach in every sport. They don't say anything. It is. So at least this time he said something. The Zander Bogart's thing. I, I think it's a big deal. He's coming back. Zander Bogart's, I know he had a tough season leading up to this point, but if he can get going, this team is going to be dangerous. If he could start picking it up like the rest of the team has. This is a career. Career. 804 OPS guy. Career. And he's still, and I know, and I know everybody says, well, he had the green monster in Fenway Park. The entire 804 did not come about by hitting the ball against the wall in Fenway Park. Yeah. He can do some other things. And he did some other things. And he did it consistently for Boston. He hit, you know, over 300 three out of four years, he drove in 100 twice. He had home runs in the 25 range three out of five years. I'm, it's the out there to be done. You know, it's funny is as bad as everybody thought he was last year. Yeah. And he took a lot of, he took a lot of stuff last year. He did. He finished 19 homers, 19 steals, 285, 790 OPS last year. And that's on a year that everybody thought he was terrible. Now this year, you know, yeah, as you said, before you got hurt, four home runs to 19 average OPS 581. I mean, that's 200 plus points lower. If you're, if he, you're right, Scrabie, if he gets up to the eight, 850 range where he's been in his career a lot, makes the Padres a ton better. If there's two outs in the ninth inning, and it's Bryce Johnson or a guy who's played in the world series, I'm going to take the guy who's played in the world series. I'm going to take Jerrickson pro far. Well, yes, I'll take him to, but he was an option. He was an option. No, Jerrickson pro far this year would be my guy. All right, Manny Machado was heard from pregame today. I know dropping names here. Annie Heilbren had a nice talk with Manny and asked him about some of the all star selections and things of that nature. And Manny, I believe she tweeted it out, but he said that, you know, he thinks they need to be some tweaks to some of this stuff. Well, this clip specifically is going to start with him being asked about because they have five all stars. What is the play? No, I know this is different than what she was talking about. But he had said that, you know, he'd like to see some differences in the way they select. What was it, rookies of the year? No, gold gloves, silver sluggers, all stars as well, because he said all stars. It's a political contest in Christian Walker should have been an all star this year. Christian Walker God hosed. There's no question. He's not even an alternate. No, he's having a way better year than Peter Lanzo just straight up. He should be in over Peter Lanzo. Yeah, and he's not. So that sounds, you know, politically. I don't want to use politically. I'll just stay, you know, it sounds a little fishy. It's political within baseball. Right. It sounds a little fishy because Peter Lanzo plays in New York. Yeah, he's in the home run Derby and Christian Walker plays in Phoenix where nobody sees him play. But Christian Walker is having a better year. He just is. Yeah. And that is that is sort of political. It does seem that way. All right, Manny on the playoff expectations, though, of the Padres because they have so many all stars. You see, I don't like the word expectations. You know, I think, you know, that's that's something people always like to put out their expectations. I mean, I think we expect to to go out there and win every single day. I mean, that's just this is what we play the game for. I mean, I don't think anyone wants to be a loser, you know, so we got to go out there and play our game. And I think, you know, whenever you have guys playing well, things things go well for you. But at the end of the day, it's it's about what this team could do day in day out every single night. And, you know, this whole team has been doing it every all day, every single day for the for the whole year. So, we got to continue doing that. And I think that's an expectation we we have in here as a group is to do that, you know, you know, expectation that you you say it. Now I gotta say it. You know, that's why I don't like the word because now you're putting it in my mouth. I didn't say the word, you're putting it in my mouth. So you see, that's why I don't like words. That's why you guys always put us in these situations. And then we get caught. And then now I'm all over social media because, you know, you put something in my mouth, which I didn't say. Now I just keep repeating expectations. So no, I mean, we just got to go out there and compete, continue to compete. That boy, Manny, that is hilarious. That was Manny, my chotto at his finest right there. That's why I call him Manny, my chotto when he does funny stuff like that. That was pretty good. I got to say, I'm all over social media, because I did think that while he was talking, he's like, I hate that word. And then he started using the words. He said it four or five times. He finally realized it himself. That that was good. That was a funny thing. I didn't hear that end part. I only listened to like the first 30 seconds of money. That was good by Manny. Xander Bogart's also spoke today after his simulated game and taking some batting cuts and what not. And of course, he was asked about how it went. Of course, it's 20, maybe 15, 15, 20 pounds. What do you think needs to be done before? I'd probably say a couple more games, you know, in games. That's great. You know, I mean, it's obviously a little different than games, you know, playing anywhere in the minors. I mean, it's, I don't think like, it makes a big difference. Just being in a game itself is just, just different. Do you think you're playing before the all-star break? Yeah. I think so. Yeah. So we'll see. I mean, I guess day by day and see how these next couple days go. But for sure, nothing this year is this, this is for sure. Xander, Kevin Aci, UT, we heard him. We heard him in that clip. Little guest of parents on the program by Kevin. Also our friend, Annie Hyman. But yeah, Kevin's saying that he's likely to be back by the weekend for the years of the Atlanta series. Okay. So my first thought was, why? Why what? Why not just give him the rest of the time off and have to go back after the break? Because if he slugs the whole weekend and we went all three, it's going to be big. It's going to be huge. I tell you. I think, yeah, I don't, I don't hate what you're thinking. You've waited this long. It's another three days. But as far as what he's thinking, he wants to get back in there. Oh, yeah. And they're playing. I'd break it back in their pushovers this weekend. I want to get back in there. Yeah. All right. Here we go. Right now. 833-2880973. That's the number. Don't start dialing yet because Scrabie's just going to hang right up. Oh, they're walked anyway. Yeah. Here's my question for you to try and answer. And if you answer correctly, you win two tickets to tomorrow's Padres Mariners game. First 40,000 fans will receive the Padres throwback hats. Here's the question. In 2001, the Seattle Mariners set a modern Major League Baseball record. You know what they did that year, Scrab? No. They were won a hundred and 16 games. That's crazy. And they lost 46 the whole season. That's a fun year. Not bad. They would eventually though lose in the AlCS to the dreaded New York Yankees. Here's the question. Who, according to baseball reference, was the best player on that year Seattle Mariners team? How are you determining that? He had the best war of all the players on that team. Your favorite stat? This guy had the greatest war on the 2001 116 win Mariners, which player had the greatest war? And therefore was determined as the best player for that team that year. Dial in at 833-288-0973. If you get through and we go to you, come up with the answer. And if you're right, you're going to the Padres game. First, though, a check of traffic. Hey, welcome back to the program. 523 is the time. We got about 10 minutes or so to go. Congratulations out there. Well deserved by Andrew, who was the first caller to get through. And we held his feet to the fire. We said, did you roll the dice first? We rolled the dice, right? And yeah, right. To choose it at random. But he was the first one that we got through. And we held his feet to the fire. We said, did you look this up? He goes, no, I just kind of was one of these one or two guys. And he went with his guess and he was right. Brett Boone. Yeah. Was, according to the baseball reference war, the best player on that great Seattle Mariner team. That's a huge. Congratulations to Andrew. Well done. Brett Boone, who's been on this station many times on different shows, has a great baseball podcast that we talk about from time to time. I don't know that Scrabie has got him on our show yet. You know what? I was just thinking about that earlier. Am I asking for something that is just undoable? No, but in the past, like honestly, this is 100% honest. In the past when I'm like, hey, you know what? We should have Brett Boone on. And then I check and then someone else is having him on the show. I need to make it a point to get out. Has that been the, that's been the situation. Yeah, I need to make it a point to get him on. Understandable. But yeah, maybe we can get him on. Celebrate the fact that he was the best guy on that team. According to baseball reverence, it's, it's not really that shocking. When you look at that 2001 Mariner team and you see that Brett Boone who played second base had 37 homers and a 141 RBI. That's insane. And hit 331 had a 950 OPS. How good was that? Each row had an 838 OPS. Brett Boone was 100 points better than him, which is saying something. Yeah, each row was the second best war that year. Mike Cameron. Oh, future Padre was the third best war. John old rude was on that team. I guessed in my mind before I looked all this up that Randy Johnson was the best player on that team. He was on the Diamondbacks that year because they won the World Series. So I was completely off. The best picture on that Seattle squad that year. Freddie Garcia, 18 and six Jamie Moyer. Oh, he played for like every the ageless one was 20 and six that year. Do they get booted first round second round second round Yankees and then the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees on Luis Gonzalez's walk off hit. There you go. So that's how it ended for the 01 Mariners. But anyway, Andrew, good job. Thanks to everybody. I know everybody called in wanted to win those tickets. Andrew got the first shot and he made the most of it. So very well done. You know, we talked about the all star team earlier in our fantabulous sports game show, right? Scrape? Yes. You and Tony did a great job. The 35 NL all stars. You guys named 33 of them. Unfortunately for you, Tony got 17. You got 16. So he got the victory. But did everybody know or does everybody kind of aware of the fact that there are not only five Padres in the all star game this year, but and I got to count this up one last time. I unofficially, and I know somebody's going to argue with me on this, but I unofficially have seven former Padres in the all star game this year. And that includes trade Turner. So that could be, you know, you could question that. I don't count that. But you don't count it. Okay. Well, because if you count him, then you probably got to count a couple of other Padres prospects. But CJ Abrams, right, is in the all star game this year. Matt's wrong. It's a former Padres. He is in the all star game this year. Juan Soto, of course, as a former Padres last I checked. Yes, yes, yes. Seth Lugo. Oh, yeah. Give him credit. He's really had a really good year. Yes. Too bad. You know, we just couldn't afford to keep him. How about Kirby Yates battling back from nowhere to get to the all star game? Where is old Kirby been? I don't know, but I'm happy for him. I am too. I mean, I was such a fan of Kirby Yates when he was here. And remember, he was named the best reliever in baseball in 2019. Yeah, not just the all stars and everything for the Padres that year, but remember that at the end of the year, they give out the best player at each position award. Yep. And Kirby got that award on the day that we ran into him at the winter meetings. He's literally just received the award and walked with it in his arms up to us. All right. So that was 2019. All right. 2020. Nobody really played. And he only pitched four innings. 2021. He was hurt the whole year. 2022. He pitched seven innings for the Braves for the Braves. And then last year, at least he was with the team all year, but he only had five saves wasn't really the closer. So it's been one, two, three, five years since Kirby Yates has been great. And now he's back on an all star team with Texas. So good for him. And then the other guy, the sixth or the seventh, depending on how you want to count it up, is Josh Naylor. And I think Josh Naylor is the one that a lot of people feel like, you know, one that got away with the one that got away. You know, Soto was a means to an end. We had to do this kind of go into this whole story again, but they had to cut the payroll. They were able to get quite a bit in return. Seth Lugo. I don't think anybody could have predicted him to be this good this year. Not not like a two year. Kirby's been gone for a long time. Josh Naylor was a guy that it hurt to trade him at the time, but he didn't really have a spot here. And so he's gone on and and made something of it. A Matt Strom was always kind of, you know, in and out of the rotation and the bullpen, etc. And then CJ Abrams, who was basically traded because we had another shortstop named Fernando. Tatisse Jr. if you're wondering. So those are the guys that were Padres that are in the All-Star game this year. And then, as you said, Trade Turner, but there's probably a few others that were Padres prospects. I'm looking down the list. It's, you know, I didn't research this for like three hours. Oh, okay. So I shouldn't ask the question that's on the chat of how many of these guys are the mandatory selections for the team. What do you mean? Like you every team gets one player. How many of those guys were the mandatory selection? I don't know. Like was Kirby Yates the mandatory selection for Texas? I'd have to look to see if Texas had any more All-Stars. I'll go check it out. And I don't really feel like, you know, I'll go check it out, Chris. Don't you worry. You're going to check it out. Yeah, I'm just going to do that in this, you know, in warp speed time. I'm looking. I'm going to find it. But Kirby Yates, maybe he's no Marcus Semine was on the All-Star team too. So Kirby was not an automatic. Naylor was not either. Naylor earned it. Without question, Lugo's earned it, Juan Soto's earned it. I would say Matt Strom earned it. And I would say that CJ Abrams earned it. Yeah. I think they all did. Yeah, I would say so. Yeah. Maybe CJ, and he's the only national chosen. Oh, people are upset that Jake Irvin didn't get a spot. Are they? Do you know Jake Irvin is a pitcher? I know that because of the upset people. No, I mean, you can't select every single pitcher. You also can't select everybody deserves to make the All-Star team. And among those who made them, you know, could deserve to make the All-Star team is our guy Matt Waldron. But look, we should be pretty happy. We got five. It's, you know, everybody thinks they have three or four other guys who should make the All-Star team. That is true. And it doesn't matter how many guys make it. There's always a bunch of guys that just missed the cut and they're the slu- they're the snubs. Yeah. The biggest snub is still Christian Walker. So if anybody should feel bad at Tim and you know what else, if anybody should feel bad, how about this? Christian Walker has been a star player for, you know, I'd say what, seven, eight years in big leagues, been a pretty good player. Yeah, pretty good for sure. You have any All-Star teams he's made? Zero. Exactly. Hasn't made any. This could have been his first time. Maybe it still will be eventually. Could be. So a guy hit 36 and 33 the last two years and has already got 22 bombs this year. Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Check traffic. Got a few things to watch out for. South on side of the 805 or 8 before the 8th. There is a collision involving a couple vehicles in the center divide. Now, south on side of the five before Garnet looks like there's a stall vehicle in middle lanes. Now we're getting reports of some police activity on the corner of a bridge heading over to the island. Just past mid-stand. I'm Kelly down with Gwen and Chris and Diego's number one sports station, 973 the fan. Sorry to everybody on the YouTube chat. I clicked off the camera like one minute before the end of the show. Oh, now I'm Chris, hello, and Matt Scrabie. You're everything. Yeah, you're gonna have to hold down the fort for the final minute of the show. Man, you guys got a look at me. Good luck on that. Enjoy the game everybody tonight. We still got a little bit to go. I know, Padres. How much longer is like a long? The music is going to start in like 17 seconds. Oh, that is a little bit to go. Yeah, it is a little bit to go. All right. Tomorrow. Watch. Oh, go ahead. Have you ever watched an MLB big inning before where there's like five games going on at one zone? Yeah, it's not though. No, it's definitely not. And they only have it on a certain times, but I do enjoy it a little bit. At least baseball is trying. Yeah, they'll never, they'll never do a red zone. Red zone is unto itself. Well, football is the only sports I could pull. The greatest invention may be in the history of modern television. Chris is not joking everyone. I really do. You name me something better than red zone and we'll discuss it. In the meantime, Hiko Water, SoCal pregame, Sam Levitt next, Padres Mariners. It's that time of the show when we check on the latest in sports. Only the most important topics and questions are brought to light. Stop what you're doing and listen. These news stories will astound and amaze you. The one, the only. Oh my god, who the hell Kish? The Big Five starts now on 97th grade of fan. All right, nice to have Tony back for the Big Five. And we're going to start with something slightly controversial today. And I don't, you know, number five. I don't mean to be sensationalist about this, but I did see a lot of conversation. It's actually all about the homerun derby and the selection of Marcelo Zuna. Now we know the past, but I will explain. Zuna has been arrested twice before for domestic violence related defenses. He was reinstated major league baseball after charges were dropped and he completed a pretrial diversion program for police. I know where you think I'm going guys. And yes, there are many tentacles that go in the Trevor Bauer direction, but many think major league baseball could have avoided any of this conversation just by asking someone else. Tony should major league baseball has that have asked someone else to participate. I mean, to me, this doesn't make any sense, right? I mean, he's already an all star. So it's okay to be an all star. We just don't want you to be in the homerun derby. Like, I don't know what's the, what is the, what are you trying to accomplish by not having him there? Because guess what? Come all star game. They're going to have the starting lineups and they're going to actually run out to the starting line or be out on the line in which his name will be mentioned. So I think this is uh, I'll say that I understand it, but what I gather is that they're putting him on a, they're basically like saying, Hey, look at this great guy. This is what I see. That's not, that's, that's not what they're doing though. They're, they're picking contestants for a homerun derby. Clearly they, not everybody wants to do it as we know. And so they probably asked guys that said they wanted to do it or were willing to participate. I don't think major league baseball is trying to say, Hey, this guy is an awesome guy. He's out hitting homeruns. I just think they need somebody or they wanted to take people who will, wanted to participate. Chris, major league baseball vast is someone else to participate. Well, first of all, I'm just thinking of one name in particular, but Josh Hamilton had plenty of demons, uh, different demons, but demons nonetheless and uh, was uh, celebrated as a homerun derby participant several years ago, champion, et cetera, all time record performance. Uh, here's the simple difference between Marcelo Zuna and Trevor Bauer. Marcelo Zuna is deemed by baseball to have done whatever it is necessary for them to welcome him back to the game. He has done whatever he's needed to legally to be a free man and have taken care of whatever responsibilities he had there. And baseball deems him to be, uh, you know, eligible to play baseball does not deem Trevor Bauer to be eligible to play. And you know, so as long as that's the case, Marcelo Zuna should be eligible to take part in a contest like this and Trevor Bauer should continue to stay where he does. And I don't really have a problem with Trevor Bauer staying where he does. I'm a little tired of every single time somebody, you know, I don't know, scratches somebody behind the ears. You know, it's like, Oh, we got to let Trevor Bauer back in the game, my guess. You know, no, we don't have to let him back in the game. And, uh, you know, baseball's, I don't know, are we missing him that badly? To be fair, Major League Baseball has, hasn't deemed him not worthy of playing Major League Baseball teams and owners who have to rewrite it. Yeah. Have said it to this point, no, thank you. So, you know, take that for what you look. Take that for data. That's right. I think that's the number one question in my DMS the past week or two is should the Padres bring in Trevor Bauer. We've already talked and here's your number one answer. Okay. We're going to move on, Chris. We're going to move forward. I brought this up on the scraping show last night and wanted to get your guys opinion. Apparently Joe, uh, bangles quarterback Joe Burrow and I think alike. He recently said if the NFL goes to an 18 game regular season, he would like to see the NFL Institute two by weeks with one of those occurring at week 13 for every single team. Then during that by week, there would be the Pro Bowl festivities and it will feel more like the NBA all star weekend and, uh, all of that. So Chris, do you think this is a good idea if they go to 18 regular season games? I think if, uh, Joe Burrow didn't already have enough money, uh, he ought to consider running for player commissioner. I think it makes perfect sense. Uh, first of all, the two by weeks, I believe has been done before in the NFL. Yeah. Even when they had the 16 game schedule, when they added some teams, uh, I believe there was at least one, maybe two years where they played 16 games over 18 weeks. So there's absolutely no reason why you can't have two by weeks with an 18 game schedule. And I think his idea is very good to. I mean, the best idea of all, honestly, would be to get rid of the stupid Pro Bowl and all the activities, but you know, enough people seem to like it. Yeah, exactly. Um, you know, so, uh, I think you're speaking for me there, not against me, but I did enjoy watching those guys. But I will say this, I like, I like when somebody has a well thought out idea and presents it, not just off the cuff, you know, not just, here's what we got to do and not really think it through. It sounds like Joe Baro thought it through. And I think he's, uh, I think he's right. So that's why Joe Baro and I are like Tony, do you think this is a good idea? Oh, I don't know if it's a good idea or that, but I think it's well thought out. Um, I think, you know, if you really want to have a Pro Bowl, and I don't know that you could really have like an actual football game Pro Bowl. Yeah, it just doesn't make any sense. Um, but if you're going to do it, I think you could stretch it out an extra week, give it two weeks for, if you're going to have the 18 game season, you're going to put the Pro Bowl in the middle and celebrate the best players of the first half, I think you should give it two weeks. What's the difference, right? We are, it's not like nobody. So you're saying instead of two separate occasions, it would be one big bi-week. No, I'm saying you keep the, the bi-week, the two bi-weeks, right? So I guess it'd be into being three bi-weeks. Oh, okay. Yeah. So, but you just combine those two bi-weeks together. And, and you know, now you've got a little more downtime for these guys, not to say that they can't like get back into like some type of camp or whatever it is during that second week, but I think if you really want to have the Pro Bowl, you're going to have to give them more time. Yeah, but the only reason that I don't agree with that plan is I can't imagine two Sundays in a row without Scott Hanson. That'd be tough. What if Scott Hanson? I mean, we do a bunch of Sundays come the off season. I mean, I'm just saying we can add a couple Sundays together so we can stretch out the NFL season. Yeah, and I don't really have a problem with the NFL season stretching out as long as it can. You know, right now, it's only about 28 weeks total. I mean, let's go. That's the National Fire. Let's go 40 weeks. I mean, it's the greatest thing in the world. I want to have the time to be back to President's Day Weekend, which would be in the February like 20th. Have the Super Bowl on Easter. I could care less or the baseball season has started. Spread it out, baby. I hate it. Just stop eating yourself NFL. That's what's happening here. Speaking of the Christmas, Chris has given me the eyes and he's got a lot of way to move on. Dak Prescott has undoubtedly heard the noise regarding the status of his right foot has decided to provide an update less than three weeks before the start of training camp. He was pictured wearing a boot on his foot. And so he said, honestly, I'm getting older. It was the same ankle that I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago. So yeah, a couple hard days of training, you get a little sore. Then you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and make sure things don't get worse. Literally, it is absolutely nothing. People are reaching, trying to make things that they aren't. I'm getting older, have to take care of my body. I have to be smart. And if I can take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I'm going to do it. Sorry, that caused such a whirlwind. End quote, Tony, we sometimes say, or at least I sometimes say if there's smoke, there is fire. So if there is a boot, is there an injury? No, that necessarily. I mean, you just walk around with boots on to try to help his. So does it hurt himself? Do they have some type of camp? Are they throwing the football around? I think they were doing something, right? Yeah, they have like those OTAs and stuff. But he was talking about fishing trips. He's wearing a boot. Well, when they send you home from the field and you got like an ankle injury, they usually send you home in a boot, right? So now he's just fishing with the boot. I don't know. This doesn't seem like much of anything other than him wearing a boot during the offseason. And people with Dallas overreacting to every single thing. This is this is kind of par for the course over. It's especially a dash. And like, you know, for Dallas fan sakes, I understand the overreaction. I mean, nothing goes right for you. So I can see how you'd be a pessimist to everything that, you know, comes your way. So, you know, I think you just shocked us up to Dallas fans being Dallas fans. All right, Chris, what do you think? If there is a boot, is there an injury? I don't think so. I think he's just being careful. And frankly, if he's my quarterback, I want him to be careful. So, you know, made hate to see him get hurt, doing something he enjoys in the off season. Right. I mean, everyone is in bubble wrap. They should be in bubble wrap. They're in the top. I mean, these quarterbacks should walk around just at home in bubble wrap. You know, I mean, who was the guy that sliced his finger cutting, cutting, cutting open something a burger, right? I don't know. I mean, it's happened, right? So I get the overreaction is absurd. I think to a Tonka by low, put on one pound, or at least it was reported that he put on one pound. And literally, that was pretty much him being run out of Miami, being a lot of people's minds. Hey, you know, the great thing about the NFL is that we care about it. The worst thing about the NFL is that we care too much about the wrong things. You know, guys, about six months, I'm just going to start wearing my sling for my shoulder. What? If you're going to feel more comfortable, God love it. As long as you can push the buttons. I can't push the buttons, Chris. Now, Novak Djokovic easily beat 15 seated. Correct me if I'm wrong, Chris Holger. Runa. Okay. He says, okay. Yeah, six, three, six, four, six, two, and just over two hours Monday night to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals, then make sure to get the message across to those fans he thought were against them. Runa's supporters at various tournaments often will say his name is rude, which can be misconstrued as boo. I got to tell you, dude, I was about to talk trash to you after your comment about the shoulder sling and you being able to push buttons. This is a good example, ladies and gentlemen, why? Don't say the first thing that comes to your mind. What did I say? I had only looked at our 215 spot and some of the spots from earlier today that weren't filled out. And then I kind of gradually scrolled down before I opened my mouth and saw all of this type, the button pushing you have been doing towards the bottom of it. And you know, I'm glad I caught myself because you would have had, you would have had the right to to scream on me right there. Oh, you were saying you were going to bring up that I didn't fill in anything. Yes, he restrained himself. He's talking about the, he's talking about the quality move of restraint. I see. Okay, I like it. But what about two o'clock? It says better cup begins. That was my big note. Yeah, that was a big note. We went over that already. The problem with today, if we're going to go in this direction for a second, the problem with today is Chris and I just talked about everything from over the weekend yesterday and they haven't played another game. Um, yeah. Today's the beginning of the week, beginning of the week for me. Yeah, so this is all fresh for you. For us, we've beat this into the ground a little bit. Um, all right. So Novak Djokovic, they said it was boo. That happened yesterday. He actually had a message to his fans in his post match interview. And here is what he said. And I had to cut it down because it was very well. And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case me, have a good night. Good night. Good night. Very good night. Yeah. I'm hoping that they were just commenting on Runa and that they weren't disrespecting you. They were. They were. They were. I don't accept it. No, no, no. I know they were, I know they were cheering for Runa, but that's an excuse to also boo. Listen, I've been, I've been on the tour for more than 20 years. So trust me, I know all the tricks. I know how it works. It's fine. It's fine. It's okay. I focus on the respectful people. They have respect that pay the ticket to come and watch tonight. And love tennis. And love tennis and appreciate the players and the effort that the players put in here. I played in much more hostile environment. Trust me, you guys, you guys can't touch me. So there's what he said. Very good, Novak. He is considered a sports villain. I think that was pretty hilarious and great. Chris, do you consider Novak Djokovic a sports villain? No, I just consider him a little polarizing. I didn't agree with all of the stances he's taken, but you know what? He believes in certain things and that's his right to believe in certain things. And it's also the fans right to root against him. I mean, I don't think that, I don't think tennis fans have to go into the stadium and root for both players all the time. I think by and large, people respect Djokovic in his amazing play. You know, he felt like he was being booed a little bit. He's probably right. He might have been being booed a little bit, and he got the last laugh in on them. I think that was pretty, I think that was pretty creative by him. That's right. That was good. Tony, do you consider Novak Djokovic a sports villain? No, he's just an ass. You don't like him? I'm not a fan of it at all. I mean, first of all, we've all, I mean, at this point, I'm 42 years old. I'll be 42 years old, which was the point. Yeah, I'll be 42 and I'll be in October. And, you know, you've been in much more hostile environments, yet you took the time to have this conversation after things. So clearly, it did bother you. And I think he's a little soft because it bothered quite frankly, like you're a professional athlete, you should be able to handle, you know, especially, let me rephrase, when you're a great like him, you're going to walk into places where people want you to lose. Can we go through the list of greats that have had to go through that? I mean, every guy in basketball, every guy in baseball, you know, when Manny goes to the plate at any other pose in the spot, he gets, he gets booed. It's a, actually, it's a sign of respect, isn't it? They don't boo. I haven't heard that before. They don't boo like regular dudes out there. I just take issue with him saying that he wasn't bothered by it, but clearly was bothered by it. I just want to say he's not a villain, though. Okay. I just want to say that when I say something and hit the mark, Tony often says, I should have said what Chris said. On this one, I want to jump in and say I should have said what Tony said because I think he hit it right on the mark. You're right. It's the psychology of if it doesn't bother you, then why are you taking the time to address it? Yeah, he should be too good for all this stuff. That's my point. Like he's literally one of the greatest to ever play tennis. And yet he, this isn't the first time he's taken issue, by the way, with fans and using his post-game interviews to address it. I think this is like the second or third time that I can remember. And it's just like, I don't know, I can't remember. Give me a great. I can't remember. Well, he seemed like he was below. I'm saying any great that the the sides from the Roger Feders or the Tony Gwen's, mostly all of them all get booed and, you know, have to deal with it at some point. It's true. And I don't think I remember anybody like addressing the boos in their post-game comments. Like, you know, it's just, you know, I'm out here. Like, I can't think of LeBron or Michael or Wayne Gretzky or anybody addressing boos after their game. I don't know. That would be like, because the Padres got booed earlier in the year, that would be like one of the Padres grabbing the mic and being like, stop booing us. Like, what are you doing? Right. What were we talking about the next day? We'd be like, why would you ever grab the mic and say that? That is true. I didn't think about it like that. I'm just like, I don't know. He seemed a little sensitive in this scenario. Maybe he's working on a stand-up comedian career, because that was pretty funny. But that was the other thing. And maybe it gets lost in translation, right? Because the boo part was actually funny. And like it, it didn't seem to fit with the kind of disrespect comment that he gave just before that. Yeah, then he went down the dark path. Right. It seemed like it was, I couldn't tell in early in it, if he was like, joking upset. Some sort of smile while he was saying it. But then at the end, he seemed like he was a little bit upset. His next opponent is a guy by the name of Alex Demonar. So I don't believe there'll be any confusion this time. If they're booing him, they're going to definitely be booing him. So he'll know. Number one. All right. So this was my daily gripe last night. And I want to get your guys's thoughts. You put yourself in this situation. You're in a store where you need to go to a cash share before you leave to pay like a convenience store or grocery store, whatever. You get to said cash share and the cash share doesn't look up to you or at you and acknowledge you are ready to pay. So you're just kind of standing there awkwardly. Tony, how long would you wait before you say something to a cash share that's not recognizing you? That's a good question. Because I have been in this situation before and I waited. I felt like forever. And I never said anything. And eventually said cash here looked up. I mean, when you think about this is going to sound short, but it's actually a long time. I'd say like 45 seconds. Oh, no, that's an eternity. That's an eternity. Wow. Four or five seconds. You meant four or five seconds. Yeah. I was going to say 30, but I thought that was too small to show 45, probably more like 30 seconds. Like I would wait. Like with like a little smirk on my face for a little bit like, would you go? I might just throw the money on the counter and make a little noise. No, I won't. I mean, put your stuff on the counter. Like, I might, I might make you know, the courtesy fake cough. Yeah. Excuse me. Or, you know, like, you know, if you got the stuff, like, what was the cash you're doing when you put up to them on the phone? Oh, part of it, because, you know, there's other cashiers that are like reading the newspaper or something. Can I just tell you that today, when we were golfing at Mission Bay, there was a young lady in the fairway and the hole ahead of us on her phone. Are you checking yardages? No, she was talking to somebody on her phone. Well, her, her, her playing partners were already up on the green. She was standing in the fairway talking on the phone, then put the phone away and hit her shot. Chris will devote 30 minutes to that tomorrow. We could devote an hour. I'm talking about the cashier. Tony says 45 seconds was, I think, is it probably rising in the 30? Okay, 30 Chris. Four to five. I don't have time. Don't have time for this stuff. What would you do when you'd be like, Hey, I'm already tired of waiting behind the slow guy who can't fish out his money or is having trouble remembering his code that he punches into the computer. So I'm already frustrated. You're not doing that. Like, you walk up near the first guy up there. This is why they're not paying attention because no one was in line for you. Yeah, I'm not waiting around. As a guy who worked at a bank, there's something that drives me insane about people that come up to the window without me calling them because you know what? You seem like that guy. I have thousands of dollars in cash sitting right in front of me that I'm trying to soar. You can't come over because it's a scary. You always have thousands of dollars in cash. You just want to have the power to be like, Nope, not yet. Yes. You know what? You know what? I'm ready for you next. You know what? You know what? I hate more about the bank guy that sits behind there and counts his money while I'm standing there. The thing I hate more is the bank guy who looks up at me and then closes his window before I can walk up doing that. Yes. No wonder I couldn't stand any bank people and I don't go to the bank anymore. Hey, you know what? I would help people who were in front of the line and they looked at me and they didn't come forward and I would help them one last time. You're giving all bank tellers a bad name right now. I think bank tellers are kind of in my corner. If you're a bank teller, you are. If you're a bank teller and you are like me because I know there's lots of people out there. What kind of person looks up at a customer who's been standing there for 45 minutes, looks at them and then politely closes their little window right on you. Maybe it's so the guy that like is like fish eyeing you while he's pretending to look down and do something busy to make sure you're not walking to his line before he calls you over so he could be like, excuse me. Could you please wait till I call you in? No, yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right. Yeah. It's like you're power hungry, Scrabby. You're power. No, when I go on lunch I click the thing and I roll the window out and I look over it said someone will be right with you. Sure you do. I walk away. What a jerk. We're going to be giving it para tickets away to tomorrow's Padres Mariners game probably within the next 10 minutes or so. So stick around for that opportunity. Padres and Mariners tomorrow afternoon. First 40,000 fans will receive Padre throwback hats celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Get tickets at Padres.com slash tickets or win a pair right here with Gwynne and Chris Cressello, Tony Gwen Jr. down at Petco where he and Don or Sillow being some TV tonight. Jesse Agler on the radio call here following Sam Levitt's eco water. So Cal pregame show, which starts shortly. Do I dare say this? Scrappy? Oh, no. Oh, yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Padres win tonight. They could be only six and a half games out of first place. Wow, that's close to my thought. It's a little closer than it. You know, you would think, right? Yeah, Phillies are pounding the Dodgers nine to one right now in the fifth inning. Yes, they are. Trae Turner had a grand slam. Does that does that still upset Padre fans every time Trae Turner does something since he was originally our property. Our property. Yes. I don't know. We had first control of him on the Monopoly board before he was shuffled along. All I know is that Trae Turner doesn't like the West Coast. I mean, and I'm saying that seriously, he didn't like you. You're that's a good point when he played for the Dodgers. He did he outwardly said I would want to go back to the East Coast. So Junior says no, he's he's all good with it. He's all good with Trae Turner at this point. Good. Yeah. Anyway, nine one Phillies over the Dodgers in the fifth. Padre's some pregame stuff to discuss here. Xander Bogart's, if you hadn't heard Kevin A.C. tweet now that he'll probably be back, not Kevin A.C., but Xander Bogart's will probably be back in the lineup by Friday. Padre's expecting him back for the weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. So Bogart's was out there today, had a participated in, I guess they call it a simulated inning. Yeah, Tony was explaining it. I didn't really get all of it, but I mean, just let everybody try to kind of figure it out on their own. He's basically just him taking it back. That's right. He just stands here and takes a bunch of it bats. It's more so than just batting practice, I guess. Yes, they try to simulate that you're actually in a game. We as opposed to just hitting, you know, pitch after pitch after pitch. We did have a on MLB network. They had a live looking at the batting thing and they had guys running on base like things like that. Really? They did a whole, they did a whole, a whole shabang. Yes. All right. So Xander's obviously close. You know, probably going to be in the lineup Friday. So Mike Schilt was asked today, where Xander's Bogart's going to play when he comes back. I would expect when Bogie's playing, he'll play second base and when Crony's in the field, he'll play first. So the answer question, yes, but I think you'll see a variation of, you know, DH is in different alignments. There you go. Thank you, Mike Schilt. I see a lot of some of my favorite answers. I've heard from Mike Schilt this year, who had actually said something shortened to the point and he didn't say, well, we'll see, you know, we'll kind of figure it out when it's Friday and, you know, we're still going over some options and looking at this and looking at that. All the coach speak. And I'm, yeah, and I'm not poking at Mike Schilt. That's every coach in every sport. They don't say anything. It is. So at least this time he said something. The Xander Bogart's thing, I think it's a big deal. He's coming back. Xander Bogart's, I know he had a tough season leading up to this point, but if he can get going, this team is going to be dangerous. If he could start picking it up like the rest of the team has. This is a career career. 804 OPS guy career. And he's still. And I know, and I know everybody says, well, he had the green monster in Fenway Park. The entire 804 did not come about by hitting the ball against the wall in Fenway Park. Yeah, he can do some other things. And he did some other things. And he did it consistently for Boston. He hit, you know, over 300, three out of four years, he drove in 100 twice. He had home runs in the 25 range, three out of five years. I'm it's the out there to be done. You know, it's funny as as bad as everybody thought he was last year. If you're a peep, you're right, Scrabie. If he gets up to the eight, 850 range where he's been in his career a lot, makes the Padres a ton better. If there's two outs in the ninth inning, and it's Bryce Johnson or a guy who's played in the World Series, I'm going to take the guy who's played in the World Series. I'm going to take Jerkson Pro far. Well, yes, I'll take him too. But he was an option. He wasn't an option. No, Jerkson Pro far this year would be my guy. All right, Manny Machado was heard from pregame today. I know dropping names here. Annie Heilberg had a nice talk with Manny and asked him about some of the all star selections and things of that nature. And Manny, I believe she tweeted it out, but he said that, you know, he thinks they need to be some tweaks to some of this stuff. Well, this clip specifically is going to start with him being asked about because they have five all stars. What is the plan? No, this is different than what she was talking about. But he had said that, you know, he'd like to see some differences in the way they select. What was it rookies of the year? No, gold gloves, silver sluggers, all stars as well, because he said all stars. It's a political contest and Christian Walker should have been an all star this year. Christian Walker guide hosed. There's no question. He's not even an alternate. No, he's having a way better year than Peter Lanzo just straight up. He should be in over Peter Lanzo. Yeah. And he's not. So that sounds, you know, politically, I don't want to use politically. I'll just stay, you know, it sounds a little fishy. It's political within baseball. Right. It sounds a little fishy because Peter Lanzo plays in New York. Yeah. In the home run Derby and Christian Walker plays in Phoenix where nobody sees him play, but Christian Walker's having a better year. He just is. Yeah. And that is that is sort of political. It does seem that way. All right, Manny on the playoff expectations though of the Padres because they have so many all stars. You see, I don't like the word expectations. You know, I think, uh, you know, that's that's something people always like to put out their expectations. I mean, I think we expect to go out there and win every single day. I mean, that's just, this is what we play the game for. I mean, I don't think anybody wants to be a loser, you know, so we got to go out there and play our game. And I think, you know, whenever you have guys playing well, things go well for you. But at the end of the day, it's about what this team could do day in, day out every single night. And, you know, this whole team has been doing it every all day, every single day for the whole year. So we got to continue doing that. And I think that's an expectation we have in here as a group is to do that, you know, you know, expectation. Look at you. You say it. Now I got to say it. You know, that's why I don't like the word because now you're putting it in my mouth. I didn't say the word. You're putting it in my mouth. So you see, that's why I don't like words. That's why you guys always put us in these situations. And then we get caught and then now I'm all over social media because, you know, you put something in my mouth, which I didn't say. Now I just keep repeating expectations. So, um, no, I mean, we just got to go out there and compete, continue to compete. That is, uh, hilarious. That was Manny, my chotto at his finest right there. That's why I called him Manny, my chotto when he does funny stuff like that. That was pretty good. I got to say, I'm all over social media, because I did think that while he was talking, he's like, I hate that word. And then he started using the words for five times. He finally realized it himself. That that was good. That was a funny thing. I didn't hear that end part. I only listened to like the first 30 seconds of money. That was good by Manny. Uh, as Andrew Bogart's also spoke today, uh, after his simulated game, uh, and taking some batting cuts and whatnot. And of course he was asked about how it went. Uh, close to 20, maybe 15, 15, 20 pounds. What do you think needs to be done before? I probably say a couple more games, you know, end games. Uh, that's great. You know, I mean, it's obviously a little different than games, you know, playing anywhere in the minors. I mean, it's, I don't think it makes a big difference. Just being in a game itself is just, it's just different. Do you think you'll play before the All-Star break? Yeah. Uh, I think so. Yeah. So, we'll see. I mean, I guess they by game and see how these next couple days go, but for sure, nothing, this is, this is for sure. Xander, uh, Kevin, AC, uh, UT, we heard him. We heard him in that clip. Little guest appearance on the program by Kevin. Also our friend, Annie Hyman. But, uh, yeah, Kevin saying that, uh, he's likely to be back by the weekend. How are the errors of the Atlanta series? Okay. So my first thought was why? Why what? Why not just give him the rest of the time off? Oh, because if he, because if he slugs the whole weekend and we went all three, it's going to be big, it's going to be huge. I tell you, yeah, I think, yeah, I don't, I don't hate what you're thinking. You've waited this long. It's another three days. But as far as what he's thinking, he wants to get back in there. Oh, yeah. And they're playing it back in there. Pushovers this weekend. I want to get back in there. Yeah. All right. Here we go. Right now. 833-288-0973. That's the number. Don't start dialing yet because Scrabie's just going to hang right up. Oh, they're walked anyway. Yeah. Uh, here's my question for you to try and answer. And if you answer it correctly, you win two tickets to tomorrow's Padres Mariners game. First 40,000 fans will receive the Padres throwback hats. Here's the question. In 2001, the Seattle Mariners set a modern Major League Baseball record. You know what they did that, your Scrab? No, they were won a hundred and sixteen games. That's crazy. And they lost 46 the whole season. That's a fun year. Not bad. They would eventually though lose in the ALCS to the dreaded New York Yankees. Here's the question. Who, according to baseball reference, was the best player on that year's Seattle Mariners team. How are you determining that? He had the best war of all the players on that team. Your favorite stat. This guy had the greatest war on the 2001 116 win Mariners, which player had the greatest war. And therefore was determined as the best player for that team that year. Dial in at 833-288-0973. If you get through and we go to you, come up with the answer. And if you're right, you're going to the Padres game. First though, a check of traffic. All right. Welcome back to the program. 523 is the time. We got about 10 minutes or so to go. Congratulations out there. Well deserved by Andrew, who was the first caller to get through. And we held his feet to the fire. We said, did you look this up first? We rolled a dice right, and yeah, right, to choose it at random. But he was the first one that we got through. And we held his feet to the fire. We said, did you look this up? He goes, no, I just kind of was one of these one of two guys. And he went with his guests and he was right. Brett Boone. Yeah. Was according to the baseball reference war, the best player on that great Seattle Mariner team. That's it. Congratulations to Andrew. Well done. Brett Boone, who's been on the station many times on different shows, has a great baseball podcast that we talk about from time to time. I don't know that Scrabie has got him on our show yet. You know what? I was just thinking about that earlier. Am I trying? Am I asking for something that is just undoable? No, but in the past, like, honestly, this is 100% honest. In the past when I'm like, hey, you know what? We should have Brett Boone on. And then I check and then someone else is having him on the show. I need to make it a point. Has that been the that's been the situation? Yeah, I need to make it a point to get him on understandable. But yeah, maybe we can get him on. Celebrate the fact that he was the best guy on that team. According to baseball reference, it's it's not really that shocking when you look at that 2001 Mariner team and you see that Brett Boone who played second base had 37 homers and 141 RBI. So I was completely off the best picture on that Seattle squad that year. Freddie Garcia, 18 and six Jamie Moyer. Oh, he played for like ever. The ageless one was 20 and six that year. I don't count that, but you don't count it. Okay. Well, because if you count him, then you probably got to count a couple of other Padre prospects. But CJ Abrams, right is in the all star game this year. Matt Strong, it's a former Padre. He is in the all star game this year. Juan Soto, of course, as a former Padre last I checked. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Seth Lugo. Oh, yeah. Give him credit. He's really had a really good year. Yes. Too bad. You know, we just couldn't afford to keep him. How about Kirby Yates battling back from nowhere to get to the all star game? Where is old Kirby bin? I don't know, but I'm happy for him. I am too. I mean, I was such a fan of Kirby Yates when he was here. And remember, he was named the best reliever in baseball in 2019. Not just the all stars and everything for the Padres that year, but remember that at the end of the year, they give out the best player at each position award. Yep. And Kirby got that award on the day that we ran into him at the winter meeting. He literally just received the award and walked with it in his arms up to us. All right. So that was 2019. All right. 2020. Nobody really played. And he only pitched four innings. 2021. He was hurt the whole year. 2022. He pitched seven innings for the Braves for the Braves. And then last year, at least he was with the team all year, but he only had five saves. Wasn't really the closer. Not, not like a two year Kirby's been gone for a long time. Josh Naylor was a guy that it hurt to trade him at the time, but he didn't really have a spot here. And so he's gone on and made something of it. Matt Strom was always kind of, you know, in and out of the rotation and the bullpen, etc. And then CJ Abrams, who was basically traded because we had another shortstop named Fernando Tatisse Jr. if you're wondering. So those are the guys that were Padres that are in the All-Star game this year. And then as you said, Trey Turner, but there's probably a few others that were Padre prospects. I'm looking down the list. It's, you know, I didn't research this for like three hours. Oh, okay. So I shouldn't ask the question. That's on the chat of how many of these guys are the mandatory selections for the team. What do you mean? Like you every team gets one player. Oh, how many of those guys were the mandatory selection? I don't know. Like was Kirby Yates the mandatory selection for Texas? I'd have to look to see if Texas had any more All-Stars. I'll go check it out. You know, and I don't really feel like, you know, I'll go check it out, Chris. Don't you? You're going to check it out. Yeah, I'm just going to go. How are you going to do that? And in this, you know, in warp speed time, I'm looking, I'm going to find it. But Kirby Yates, maybe he's, no, Marcus Semine was on the All-Star team too. So Kirby was not a automatic. Naylor was not either. Naylor earned it. Without question, Lugo's earned it. Juan Soto's earned it. Yeah, man. And it doesn't matter how many guys make it, there's always a bunch of guys that just missed the cut and they're the slu- they're the snubs. Yeah. The biggest snub is, is still Christian Walker. So, if anybody should feel bad at him. And you know what else? If anybody should feel bad, how about this? Christian Walker's been a star player for, you know, I'd say what, seven, eight years in big leagues. Been a pretty good player. Yeah, pretty good for sure. Yeah, many All-Star teams he's made. Zero? Exactly. Hasn't made any. This could have been his first time. Maybe it still will be, eventually. Could be. So, guy hit 36 and 33 the last two years and has already got 22 bombs this year. Yeah, that was pretty crazy. Check traffic. From the 97-3, the fan traffic center. Here's Kelly Dannock. Got a few things to watch out for. South outside of the 805 or 8 before the 8th, there is a collision involving a couple vehicles. It's in the center divide. Now, South outside of the 5 before Garnet looks like there's a stall vehicle in middle lanes. Now, we're getting reports of some police activity on the corner of a bridge heading over to the island. Just past mid-stand, I'm Kelly Dannock with Gwyn and Chris San Diego's number one sports station, 97-3, the fan. Sorry to everybody on the YouTube chat. I clicked off the camera like one minute before the end of the show. Oh, now I'm Chris Elo and Matt Scrabie. You're everything. Yeah, you're going to have to hold down the fort for the final minute of the show. You guys got to look at me. Good luck on that. Enjoy the game, everybody, tonight. We still got a little bit to go. I know, Padres, how much longer is like a long move? The music is going to start in like 17 seconds. Oh, that is a little bit to go. Yeah, it is a little bit to go. All right, tomorrow, go ahead. Have you ever watched an MLB big inning before? Oh, where there's like five games going on at one zone? Yeah, it's not though. No, it's definitely not. And they only have it on in certain times. But I do enjoy it a little bit. At least baseball is trying. Yeah, they'll never they'll never do a red zone. Red zone is unto itself. Well, football is the only sport that can pull the greatest invention, maybe in the history of modern television. Chris is not joking everyone. I really do. You name me something better than red zone and we'll discuss it. In the meantime, Ecowater, SoCal pregame, Sam Levitt, next, Padres, Mariners. We're back tomorrow to talk about it at two o'clock for Tony Gwen Jr. and Mr. Scrabie, Chrisello, night night. I do it while making coffee. I do it in the car. I do it when the kids are asleep.
