Hey, we roll into the happy hour and it's going to be a happy hour for somebody out there for sure. We welcome you back to Gwen and Chris. The reason is, somebody's going to be really happy. Maybe it's even you listening right now. We're going to be giving it a pair of tickets away to tomorrow's Padre's Mariners game, probably within the next 10 minutes or so. So stick around for that opportunity. Padre's in Mariners tomorrow afternoon. First 40,000 fans will receive Padre throwback hats celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Get tickets at padre's.com/tickets or win a pair right here with Gwen and Chris, Cressello, Tony Gwen Jr., down at Petco, where he and Don or Sillo being some TV tonight. Jesse Agler on the radio call here following Sam Levitt's eco water. So Cal pregame show, which starts shortly. Do I dare say this, Scrabby? Oh, no. Oh, yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Padre's win tonight. They could be only six and a half games out of first place. Wow. That's close to my thought. It's a little closer than it, you know, you would think, right? Yeah. Phillies are pounding the Dodgers nine to one right now in the fifth inning. Yes, they are. Trae Turner had a grand slam. Does that does that still upset Padre fans? Every time Trae Turner does something since he was originally our property. Our property. Yes. We had we had first control of him on the monopoly board before he was shuffled along. All I know is that Trae Turner doesn't like the West Coast. I mean, and I'm saying that seriously. He didn't like it. You're a good point when he played for the Dodgers. He does he outwardly said I would want to go back to the East Coast. So junior says no, he's he's all good with it. He's all good with Trae Turner at this point. Good. Yeah. Anyway, nine one Phillies over the Dodgers in the fifth. Padre's some pregame stuff to discuss here. Xander Bogart. If you hadn't heard Kevin, AC tweet now that he'll probably be back. Not Kevin AC, but Xander Bogart's will probably back in the lineup by Friday. Padre's expecting him back for the weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. So Bogart's was out there today. Had a participated in I guess they call it a simulated inning. Yeah, Tony was explaining it. I didn't really get all of it. But I mean, let everybody try to kind of figure it out on their own. He's basically just him taking it back. That's right. He just stands there and takes a bunch of it bats. It's more so than just batting practice, I guess. Yes, they try to simulate that you're actually in a game. We as opposed to just hitting, you know, pitch after pitch after pitch. We did have a on MLB network. They had a live looking at the batting thing and they had guys running on base. Like things like that. Yeah, they did a whole they did a whole show bag. Yes. All right, so Zander is obviously close, you know, probably going to be in the lineup Friday. So Mike Schilt was asked today where Zander is a Bogart's going to play when he comes back. I would expect when Bogie's playing a play second base and when cronies in the field, I'll play first. So answer your question. Yes, but I think you'll see a variation of, you know, D H is in different alignments. There you go. Thank you, Mike Schilt. I see a lot of some of my favorite answers I've heard from Mike Schilt this year who had actually said something short and to the point and he didn't say, well, we'll see, you know, we've kind of figured out when it's Friday and, you know, we're still going over some options and looking at this and looking at that all the coach speak. And yeah, and I'm not poking at Mike Schilt. No, that's every coach in every sport. They don't say anything. It is. So at least this time he said something. Does Zander Bogart's thing? I think it's a big deal. He's coming back. Zander Bogart's, I know he had a tough season leading up to this point, but if he can get going, this team is going to be dangerous. If he could start picking it up like the rest of the team has. This is a career career. 804 OPS guy career and I know and I know everybody says, well, he had the green monster and Fenway Park. The entire 804 did not come about by hitting the ball against the wall and Fenway Park. Yeah. He can do some other things and he did some other things and he did it consistently for Boston. He hit, you know, over 300 three out of four years. He drove in a hundred twice. He had home runs in the 25 range three out of five years. I'm it's the out there to be done. You know, it's funny is as bad as everybody thought he was last year and he took a lot of. He took a lot of stuff last year. He finished 19 homers, 19 steals, 285, 790 OPS last year. He left and that's on a year that everybody thought he was terrible. Now this year, you know, yeah, as you said before you got hurt, four home runs to 19 average OPS 581. I mean, that's 200 plus points lower. If you're if he you're right, Scrabie, if he gets up to the eight eight fifty range where he's been in his career a lot. Mesa Padre is a ton better. If there's two outs in the ninth inning and it's Bryce Johnson or a guy who's played in the World Series. I'm going to take the guy who's played in the World Series. I'm going to take Jerkson profile. Well, yes, I'll take him to, but he was an option. He wasn't an option. No, Jerkson profile this year would be my guy. All right, Manny Machado was heard from pregame today. I know dropping names here. Annie Hyelbrin had a nice talk with Manny and asked him about some of the all star selections and things of that nature and Manny. I believe she tweeted it out, but he said that, you know, he thinks they need to be some tweaks to some of this stuff. Well, this clip specifically is going to start with him being asked about because they have five all stars. What is the plan? I know this is different than what she was talking about, but he had said that, you know, he'd like to see some differences in the way they. Select, what was it, rookies of the year, gold, no gold gloves, silver sluggers, all stars as well because he said all stars. It's a political contest and Christian Walker should have been an all star this year. Christian Walker guide, host. There's no question. He's not even an alternate. No, he's having a way better year than Peter Lanzo just straight up. He should be in over Peter Lanzo. Yeah, and he's not. So that sounds, you know, politically, I don't want to use politically. I'll just stay, you know, it sounds a little fishy. It's political within baseball. Right. It sounds a little fishy because Peter Lanzo plays in New York. Yeah, in the home run Derby and Christian Walker plays in Phoenix where nobody sees him play, but Christian Walker is having a better year. He just is. Yeah, and that is that is sort of political. It does seem that way. All right, Manny on the playoff expectations, though, of the Padres because they have so many all stars. You see, unlike the word expectations, you know, I think, you know, that's something people always like to put out their expectations. I mean, I think we expect to go out there and win every single day. I mean, that's just this is what we play the game for. I mean, I don't think anyone wants to be a loser, you know, so we got to go out there and play our game. And I think, you know, whenever you have guys playing well, things go well for you. But at the end of the day, it's about what this team could do day in day out every single night. And, you know, this whole team has been doing it every all day, every single day for the whole year. So we got to continue doing that. And I think that's an expectation we have in here as a group is to do that, you know, you know, expectation. Look at you. You say it. Now I got to say it. You know, that's why I don't like the word because now you're putting it in my mouth. I didn't say the word. You're putting it in my mouth. So you see, that's why I don't like words. That's why you guys always put us in these situations. And then we get caught and then now I'm all over social media because, you know, you put something in my mouth, which I didn't say. Now I just keep repeating expectations. So, no, I mean, we just got to go out there and compete, continue to compete. That is hilarious. That was Manny. My chateau at his finest right there. That's why I call him Manny, my chateau when he does funny stuff like that. That was pretty good. I got to say, I'm all over social media because I did think that while he was talking, he's like, I hate that word. And then he started using the word. He said it four or five times. He finally realized it himself. That that was good. That was a funny thing. I didn't hear that end part. I only listened to like the first 30 seconds of money. That was good by Manny. Xander Bogart's also spoke today after his simulated game and taking some batting cuts and whatnot. And of course, he was asked about how it went. Close to 20, maybe 15, 15, 20. I pass. What else do you think needs to be done for? I'd probably say a couple more games, you know, in games. That's great. You know, I mean, it's obviously a little different than games, you know. Playing anywhere in the minors, I mean, I don't think it makes a big difference. Just being in a game itself is just different. Do you think you'll play before the all-star break? Yeah. I think you're mean, I mean. I think so, yeah. So we'll see. I mean, I guess day by day and see how these next couple days go. But for sure, nothing this year is this, I'll send this for sure. Xander, Kevin A.C., UT, we heard him. We heard him in that clip, a little guest of parents on the program by Kevin, also our friend, Annie Hyman. Yeah. But yeah, Kevin's saying that he's likely to be back by the weekend. How? For the Arizona, the Atlanta series. Okay. So my first thought was, why? Why what? Why not just give him the rest of the time off and have it come back after the break? Because if he slugs the whole weekend and we went all three, it's going to be big. It's going to be huge, I tell you. I think I, yeah, I don't, I don't hate what you're thinking. You've waited this long. It's another three days. But as far as what he's thinking, he wants to get back in there. Oh, yeah. And they're playing the Braves with their pushovers this weekend. I want to get back in there. Yeah. All right. Here we go. Right now, eight, three, three, two, eight, eight, eight, oh nine, seven, three. That's the number. Don't start dialing yet because Scrabie's just going to hang right up. Oh, they walked anyway. Yeah. Uh, here's my question for you to try and answer. And if you answer it correctly, you win two tickets to tomorrow's Padres Mariners game. First 40,000 fans will receive the Padres throwback hats. Here's the question. In 2001, the Seattle Mariners set a modern Major League baseball record. You know what they did that year, Scrab? No, they were won a hundred and sixteen games. That's crazy. And they lost forty six the whole season. That's a fun year. Not bad. They would eventually though lose in the Alcs to the dreaded New York Yankees. Here's the question. Who according to baseball reference was the best player on that year's Seattle Mariners team? How are you determining that? He had the best war of all the players on that team. Your favorite stat. This guy had the greatest war on the 2001 116 win Mariners, which player had the greatest war and therefore was determined as the best player for that team that year. Dial in at 833-288-0973. If you get through and we go to you, come up with the answer. And if you're right, you're going to the Padres game. First though, a check of traffic. This season Instacart has your back to school. All right, welcome back to the program, 523 is the time we got about 10 minutes or so to go. Congratulations out there. Well deserved by Andrew, who was the first caller to get through and we held his feet to the fire. We rolled a dice right and yeah, right to choose it at random, but he was the first one that we got through and we held his feet to the fire. We said, did you look this up? He goes, no, I just kind of was one of these one of two guys and he went with his guests and he was right. Brett Boone was according to the baseball reference war, the best player on that great Seattle Mariner team. That's it. Congratulations to Andrew. Well done. Brett Boone, who's been on this station many times on different shows, has a great baseball podcast that we talk about from time to time. I don't know that Scrabie has got him on our show yet. You know what? I was just thinking about that earlier. Am I asking for something that is just undoable? No, but in the past, like honestly, this is 100% honest. In the past when I'm like, hey, you know what? We should have Brett Boone on and then I check and then someone else is having him on the show. I need to make it a point. Has that been the, that's been the situation? Yeah, I need to make it a point to get him on. Understandable, but yeah, maybe we can get him on, celebrate the fact that he was the best guy on that team. According to baseball reference, it's, it's not really that shocking. When you look at that 2001 Mariner team and you see that Brett Boone, who played second base had 37 homers and a hundred and forty one RBI. That's insane. And hit three thirty one had a nine fifty OPS. How good was that? Each row had an eight thirty eight OPS. Brett Boone was a hundred points better than him, which is saying something. Yeah. Each row was the second best war that year. Mike Cameron. Oh. Future Padre was the third best war. John O'Rud was on that team. I guessed in my mind before I looked all this up that Randy Johnson was the best player on that team. He was on the Diamondbacks that year because they won the World Series. So I was completely off. The best picture on that Seattle squad that year, Freddie Garcia, 18 and six, Jamie Moyer. Oh, he played for like ever. The Ageless one was twenty and six that year. Did they get booted first round? Second round. Second round. The Yankees. And then the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees on Luis Gonzalez's walk off hit. There you go. So that's how it ended for the 01 Mariners. But anyway, Andrew, good job. Thanks to everybody. I know everybody called in, wanted to win those tickets. Andrew got the first shot and he made the most of it. So very well done. You know, we talked about the All-Star team earlier in our fantabulous sports game show. Right. Scrape. Yes. You and Tony did a great job. The 35 NL All-Stars. You guys named 33 of them. Unfortunately for you, Tony got 17. You got 16. Yeah. So he got the victory. But did everybody know or does everybody kind of aware of the fact that there are not only five Padres in the All-Star game this year, but, and I got to count this up one last time, I unofficially, and I know somebody's going to argue with me on this, but I unofficially have seven former Padres in the All-Star game this year. And that includes Trey Turner. So that could be, you know, you could question that. I don't count that. You don't count it. Okay. So if you count him, then you probably got to count a couple of other Padre prospects. But CJ Abrams, right, is in the All-Star game this year, Matt Strom, it's a former Padre. He is in the All-Star game this year, Juan Soto, of course, as a former Padre last I checked. Yes, yes, yes. Seth Lugo. Oh, yeah. Give him credit. He's really had a really good year. Yes. Too bad. You know, we just couldn't afford to keep him. How about Kirby Yates battling back from nowhere to get to the All-Star game? Where is old Kirby Bin? I don't know, but I'm happy for him. I am too. I mean, I was such a fan of Kirby Yates when he was here and remember, he was named the best reliever in baseball in 2019, not just the All-Stars and everything for the Padres that year, but remember that at the end of the year, they give out the best player at each position award? Yep. He got that award on the day that we ran into him at the winner meeting. He literally just received the award and walked with it in his arms up to us. All right. So that was 2019, all right, 2020, nobody really played. And he only pitched four innings. 2021, he was hurt the whole year. 2022, he pitched seven innings for the Braves and then last year, at least he was with the team all year, but he only had five saves, wasn't really the closure. So it's been one, two, three, five years since Kirby Yates has been great. And now he's back on an All-Star team with Texas. So good for him. And then the other guy, the sixth or the seventh, depending on how you want to count it up, is Josh Naylor. And I think Josh Naylor is the one that a lot of people feel like, you know, the one that got away. You know, Soto was a means to an end. We had to do this, kind of go into this whole story again, but they had to cut the payroll. They were able to get quite a bit in return. Seth Lugo. I don't think anybody could have predicted him to be this good this year, not, not like a two year. Kirby's been gone for a long time. Josh Naylor was a guy that it hurt to trade him at the time, but he didn't really have a spot here. And so he's gone on and made something of it. Matt Strom was always kind of, you know, in and out of the rotation and the bullpen, et cetera. And then CJ Abrams, who was basically traded because we had another shortstop named Fernando Tatisse, Jr. if you're wondering. So those are the guys that were Padres that are in the All-Star game this year. And then as you said, Trey Turner, but there's probably a few others that were Padres prospects. I'm looking down the list. You know, I didn't research this for like three hours. Oh, okay. So I shouldn't ask the question. That's on the chat of how many of these guys are the mandatory selections for the team. What do you mean? Like you every team gets one player. Oh, how many of those guys were the mandatory selection? I don't know. Like was Kirby Yates the mandatory selection for Texas? I'd have to look to see if Texas had any more All-Stars. I'll go check it out and I don't really feel like, you know, I'll go check it out, Chris. Don't you? You're going to check it out. Yeah, I'm just going to do that. And in this, you know, in warp speed time. I'm looking. I'm going to find it. But Kirby Yates, maybe he's, no, Marcus Semine was on the All-Star team too. So Kirby was not an automatic, Naylor was not either. Naylor earned it. Without question, Lugo's earned it, Juan Soto's earned it. I would say Matt Strom earned it. And I would say that CJ Abrams earned it. Yeah. I think they all did. Yeah, I would say so. Yeah. Maybe CJ, and he's the only national chosen. All people are upset that Jake Irvin didn't get a spot. Are they? Do you know Jake Irvin is a pitcher? I know that because of the upset people. They're mad. No, I mean, you can't select every single pitcher. You also can't select everybody who deserves to make the All-Star team. And among those who made them, you know, could deserve to make the All-Star team is our guy, Matt Waldron. But look, we should be pretty happy. We got five. It's, you know, everybody thinks they have three or four other guys who should make the All-Star team. That is true. And it doesn't matter how many guys make it. There's always a bunch of guys that just missed the cut and they're the slu- they're the snubs. Yeah. The biggest snub is still Christian Walker. So if anybody should feel bad at Tim and you know what else, if anybody should feel bad, how about this? Walker's been a star player for, you know, I'd say what, seven, eight years in big leagues? Been a pretty good player. Yeah. Pretty good for sure. Yeah. How many All-Star teams he's made? Zero. Exactly. Hasn't made any. This could have been his first time. Maybe it still will be eventually. Could be. It's a guy who hit 36 and 33 the last two years and has already got 22 bombs this year. Yeah. That was pretty crazy. From the 97-3 the fan traffic center. Here's Kelly Dannick. Got a few things to watch out for. South on side of the 805 or 8 before the 8th there is a collision involving a couple vehicles. It's in the center divide. The south on side of the 5 before Garnet looks like there's a stall vehicle in middle lanes. Now we're getting reports of some police activity on the corner of a bridge heading over to the island. Just past mid-stand. I'm Kelly Dannick with Gwyn and Chris and Diego's number one sports station, 97-3 the fan. Sorry to everybody on the YouTube chat. I clicked off the camera like one minute before the end of the show. Oh now I'm Chris L.O. and Matt Scrabie's point to the graphic. Yeah, you're gonna have to hold down the fort for the final minute of the show. Man, you guys gotta look at me. Good luck on that. Enjoy the game everybody tonight. We still got a little bit to go. I know. Padres. How much longer is like a long game? The music is gonna start in like 17 seconds. Oh. That is a little bit to go. Yeah. It is a little bit to go. All right. Tomorrow. Oh, never mind. Go ahead. Have you ever watched an MLB big inning before? Five games going on at once. It's like Red Zone? Yeah, it's not though. No, it's definitely not. And they only have it on in certain times, but I do enjoy it a little bit. At least baseball's trying. Yeah. They'll never do a Red Zone. Red Zone is unto itself. Well football is the only sport that could pull it off. The greatest invention may be in the history of modern television. Chris is not joking everyone. I really do. You name me something better than Red Zone and we'll discuss it. In the meantime, Ecowater, SoCal pregame, Sam Levitt, Next, Padre's Mariners, we're back tomorrow to talk about it at two o'clock for Tony Gwen Jr. and Mr. Scrabie. Chris Elo, night night.
