[Music] It's Scottie and Ghost of Breakfast. [Music] Good morning everyone, 4.6, took a dipo studio for the next two hours. We're based at Opta State and we're on Saturday night, that's tomorrow night. It is the Derby between Fremantle, a home free-o Derby. And the West Coast Eagles will dissect that a little later, Ash and Ghost here. Of course, thanks to Sonos, experienced game-changing sound this season with Sonos. She's been missing for the last couple of weeks. Been unwell, the whole family came crashing down. She hasn't been able to go to the football club, but she's back, bigger, brighter and with her Macca's coffee in hand. Good morning. Good morning, Ghost. You miss us? I did. Did you miss me? Oh, well, I thought I thought that's genuine. First week I thought it was genuine. Second week I thought she's now going to do a habit of using it. It was an excuse and I thought, OK, so there's another one bots to dust. I've worked my way through another Friday chair. But anyway, I'm glad you came back and you saw you in the car park and you were up and about. Yeah, the first week I was definitely on mum duties and I guess wife duties, taking everyone to the hospital. But the second week, I'm just blaming Manfooler. It really hit me hard and not like the rest of the family. They all went to the hospital. I just came crashing down and Brooks just giving me the old Manfooler comment. So I'm taking it and I believe it. I'm putting it down there, people. The Manfooler is a real thing. Well, let me just say, as we know, how many times I've had COVID voice today and I think it is last count. I'll be third in time. I had COVID. I don't even think that's possible, Ghost. No, no, no. You can't get it like within three months of each other. Has COVID been around that long? No, you can just keep getting that. So anyway, I've had COVID. Don't start to dissect it with information. You are giving me grief and you've had it 13 times. Never missed a day. Never missed a day. Oh, so you're just spreading it out? Yeah, that's the idea. No wonder. Maybe that's how I got it. Don't even know how many times I've had it. I genuinely think, yes, very much. I am building my own immunity. I am. I reckon I've had it once. I reckon I've genuinely had COVID once and the rest is man flu. No, it's a cold. So you were really crooked. I don't know if Brook was in hospital for me. Yeah, it was a flu, though. It wasn't. I reckon influenza A, I'm going to use the full name here, is actually worse than COVID. I've had COVID and did not hit me like this. Yeah. And it turns in and can it turn into pandemonium? Yeah. Brook has learnt first hand. Did she get pneumonia? Yeah, she was at cold. She was in hospital for a week. So I'm not great. Great. Stay safe, everybody. So I have the real thing. So my mum's toughest take. We had my mum's 90th. Oh, no, I mentioned the age. But my beautiful mum turned 90 last week. Beautiful. We had a party on Sunday. It was fantastic. And she's just amazing. And Dad's even just as amazing as 90 for. And they're listening to the show right now. That my mum is a great believer, old school. And she's like me and I've been ingrained with my mum's. It's a cold, right? And a lot of people here, when you see people and they, "Ah, I've been off with the flu." I said, "No, you haven't been. "You've had a cold." There is a far big difference between the cold, the flu and pandemonium. There's massive difference. But the stocks down a runny nose, having a cough sore throat, it's a cold. People who just throw mayonnaise on their, just really getting more simply, don't happen. And that's where I live for my mum. So, what did you have? Influenza, eh? [LAUGHTER] That was a test we took. And it came out with two headlines. He was telling me, "I hope everyone's really enjoying "this medical lesson from 'Goss' this morning." I definitely am. Well, just the type of show we have. Everyone's texting in, "Morning Ash and 'Goss', the Eagles. "I've lost the Derby already with team selection. "A very slow and tall side in the wet. "The curtain raiser game got cancelled due to concerns "about the turf, so we're going to see a very late change "for the Eagles." It's interesting that's an interesting text from John because I was driving in and I was listening to Sam Mitchell with Kane and Key on their scene in Melbourne on Fireball Friday. And they spoke about Finn McGinnis, who was named as the sub for the game against Collingwood. But there was all the chat leading into the week that he was going to be the tag of for Nick Daco. So it was sort of sowing the seed of doubt on Collingwood. And Sam Mitchell said, "No, we made him the sub. "We've never really played those games. "We've been glad that everyone thought about it as a game "but it wasn't." But he said, "Yes, sub must be someone with flexibility." And we've seen several times this year, clubs who have named a tall ruckman. I think West Coast named Jack Williams is their sub once. It's just a bizarre thing because you can only play one spot. He's a ruck, ruck forward. Can't play half back, can't play midfield runner. You know what I mean? So it's an interesting one. And sort of John's got a valid point there. I think the sub, the sub is a very important role. And now he's saying Super sub Michael Soney Walters, who started last week, kicked four goals, is now out, probably for several more weeks with a hamstring injury at a very wrong time as a veteran in the twilight of your career is your team's about to embark on a finals campaign. Seen some massive changes at selection around and ahead of the derby. Have you have sub been, you don't have sub been women AFO? No. Because you only have 16 on the ground. Yeah, we've got shorter numbers, which you think then would probably would need an extra, a sub in, but... Because you're playing a full-size ground. It's not what you're playing on. Well, yeah, short of time, though. Yeah. Which I do enjoy. Smaller footy. Smaller footy. Do you like, do you try? Well, clearly, you're trying with a smaller footy. But have you seen the size difference? Oh, yeah, it's a big difference. Is it really? Yeah, very big difference. Do you think that's right? What are you... Can I just say this, and I'm talking about man, this woman? Why can't you kick a bigger footy? What's wrong with you? Oh, no, I think this theory was when it started. It'll fade to me. I actually feel like I've got more men here. You've got big mates. You've got big mates. You've got big mates. Let's have a look here. Oh, close. No, it's got me. It's a little bit. No, I think back in the day, the theory was a smaller ball. It could travel further. But the problem now with the smaller ball is if it's windy, it gets thrown around. It actually can't penetrate the wind. I would love to kick a regular footy around. I think it would be... I think it was. I would also like to go to full numbers as well. There's lots of... I feel like, yeah, we could definitely start moving into how the men start playing out. I think the first few years we needed that. But it's definitely the progress that AFLW has had the last few years. We can actually start changing now. What about the last kick between the arks, boundary, the lasso and... I love that room. Okay, so it's not thrown in between the arks, is that right? Yeah, I just more like that it's like you can pick it up and quickly go. You don't have to wait. I reckon that could even change with the men. But that's just me. I'm fully wrong. Again, I don't really know my footy, but I just like how quick you can change the game. You know, waiting for the umpire to run and get the ball. You can literally flick it back in, hit someone's foot, and it's a lasso. Or you're picking it up and you're going. And I don't want to be disrespectful to the boundary umpires that AFLW. Doesn't go in as far? Correct. Yeah. And often, again, it could be the ball. Being lighter. 100%. We're dissecting beautifully here right now. So there it is, a bigger ball. The last two we like. You'd like to have the full A-dane complement of A-dane. What is that about? Was that just to create more space or something? Is that the idea there? Or do you have the teleport? Yeah. So I think the theory behind it was to create more space. And I think AFLW, when it started, they were like, and I'm just comparing it to netball. Net set go. The young kids just following the ball around and not actually using the ground. Games now change. We all have people holding positions, holding width. So yeah, I think that's probably the theory. And then the theory was, this is what confused me. We've gone for a smaller ball because we can't kick as far. But then we've got less people. So then it's further to kick. So it was more. Nothing really was kind of making sense to me. However, it's a great game. And it's working out for us. It is a fantastic game. We're looking forward to the season. We had the delightful Jess Hosking in yesterday. She was in getting acquainted with the studio. And she's looking forward to the Derby, which is played here. Yep. Big character. Hosking. The twins. She's a big fan of you, to be honest. Big fan of them. That's true, I don't know. Yeah, exactly. She's got two Jesses both. And three? She's famous. And famous for blowing, can play the recorder. The West Coast Eagles theme song out of a nose. Oh, really? She won all expenses, paid trip to the Gold Coast and Wally World and all those places by winning a Red Faces competition by blowing the recorder through a nose as a kid. Oh my goodness. That's different. Yeah. Oh, she's different. Yeah. This is her. It's out of a nose. She told you this yesterday. So, this is one of her claims. Well, it was at the WAFL footy awards. She was a guest. And they said, "Can you do anything a little bit left field?" And she goes, "Yeah." And they produced a recorder. And she played it in front of the crowd. And then she brought the house down. I've actually never been in trouble from netball. Footy, I got fined for the last game of last year's season. And it was because of Jess. I thought I was actually going to have to miss my first round of the... No, no, no. We'd like to know more. Were you in that big stash? Was it the fort? Yeah, it was a bit of a fort. Because Jess said it was Sarah's... her sister, Sarah's fault. Okay. Maybe I wasn't Jess. Maybe I was Sarah. We're going to saw either way. Oh, boy. I thought I was trying to help my teammate. Because your teammate was a former Richmond player. Is that how it worked out? Oh, okay. So, I don't even know. So, I don't know these background about my own teammates. But, yeah, she went... She, my teammate, laid this amazing tackle. And I'm sitting on the boundary. And I'm sitting on the boundary. So, obviously, not Jess, but Sarah... Well, we don't know. She was very... I thought it was Jess. Yeah, it probably was. Yeah. Came in and just dropped a knee in the head of my teammate. Oh, hang on a minute. That's definitely not Jess. And then... This is one thing you like that I love about footy and I would love to see more in it all. If you go for someone's teammate, you're allowed to then go in and like... Nah, this is good. Nah, that's good. I was... Nah, that's good. Well, it was already 2v1. I just made it even and pulled her off. I was trying to end it. It's quite funny, actually. Because you see this all in broad. You see me realizing I've made an error. And as everyone's fighting, I'm walking away from it because I've known... I'm probably in trouble here. You throw the kerosene on there and walk to her. Just got to find those. So, thank you. How much was the phone? I have no idea. I think it was $100. We're very lucky now. So, take our whole paycheck if we're getting a phone like the men. Erm... Now, thanks for... Thank you for everyone who's texting. And we love this. We've just... We've got a crazy busy show. Because we've got the Carl Reindler interview. So, Carl Reindler, we interviewed yesterday before the show. He's over in Belgium for the Formula One Grand Prix. Carl Reindler is a Western Australian who was a supercar driver. He now drives the medical car in the Formula One. So, he's at the back of the field and races around. Yeah, he's the first lap anyway. We've spoken to Carl Reindler, but we've got a little bit off track yesterday. We lost our way and poor old Carl hit the car in the room floor. But we do love the Carl Reindler interview. So, we will go to air before 7 o'clock. Jesse Dart will give us some tips. He's found a little bit of form last week, Jesse. But more Fremantle, when the worst Jesse goes. After 7 o'clock, Paul Haysaby, we asked him to come to the studio. He said, "No." So, he'll be on the phone. And Ben Allen, the inaugural doctor's captain, of course, father of Link and Ed. Ed's a Collinwood and Link who's at SCN. I wonder which son he's more proud of. Now, we've had a couple of texts coming to say. Have you heard of the... Has Ash heard the array of little bits that we had? I'm sure. Have you heard of... Don't clap just yet. Just wait for me on... If you can, Griffey. Have you heard of Bent Fabric? No. Okay, so Bent Fabric is a pianist, right? And we play a bit of... Just... There's a lot of beautiful moments in the world that don't get enough airtime. And this is Bent Fabric. Tell me if this appeals to you. It's a bit of think music. You know what I mean? It's just a little... It's almost like... We're going to get back to up to stadium shortly, but we've got a problem with our line. So, here's a bit of Bent Fabric in the meantime. I understand. It's inoffensive, isn't it? It's nice. I think it's too early. You don't like that. It's not my vibe. Okay, right. I feel cool. I feel cool. Okay. Now, if I leave it to yours, I'm okay with it. No, but I'm sharing. I shared with the group some months ago and the Ren. And I saw this on social media and a beautiful Ren. And it's real, right? This is not recorded in a studio. They haven't gone out. This is a Ren in the rainforest and a picture of the Ren and a beautiful plumage, a beautiful mouth and a bit of beady little eyes. Anyway. And it was producing this sound. Just have a listen to this. Oh, there's a lot in two weeks. Is that not the most beautiful sound? And if you actually align it to the pictures, it's pure, isn't it? This isn't two weeks. This is 12 months old. I just haven't produced you since I've been here. No, I think I prefer that. It takes me back to my carabinning days. So you like the Ren? More than you like Ben Faber? Yeah. Okay. It's more natural. Like I feel like I could be anywhere. Yeah, thank you. Thank you. But the piece de resistance. Did you know that a woodpecker can pick a piece of wood? 12,000 times a minute. Right? 12,000 times a minute. And doesn't get concussion because its brain is so small inside its skull. Have a listen to this. Is that the most incredible fact? Is that a fun fact for you for the day? That is a fun fact. Have a listen again. Have a listen. No concussion. No concussion. How do they know this? It's not concuss. Have a listen. I don't believe it to a woodpecker. I feel like it's something dropping on the table like... Because it goes slower. It's a woodpecker. It's a woodpecker. It's a woodpecker. A new street street to Beck Allen Bad News for our Opels at the Olympic Games. Sorry, I can't say Olympic Games. The Paris Games. It's gonna hamster you. It's gonna hamster you. It's gonna hamster you. I can't say Olympic Games. The Paris Games. It's gonna hamstring in the last game against Canadian. And it's out. Out of the Olympics. Breaking news sets. But the breaking news is... Her flint basket baller, Amy Atwell, is in. So she's been training and doing all the work, but she was about to head home. Yeah. She has been brought into the Olympic squad. So big win. One woman setback is another's gain. So we're fantastic there for... And you... They're not gonna win a game if they bounce the ball like that. And you were disappointed to hear that the Matilda's had a massive loss overnight. Yeah, three is it? Loss. To Germany. To Germany. Hey, look, they're journey good, but... No, can I just say it? No, Sam Kerr. No Matilda's. How many times have I said that? How? 100. 100 times, I said. As soon as she got injured, they were done. She's that... Mary Fowler's an outstanding player and they've got some great players. Do not get me wrong. It's a great... She didn't really play the World Cup. Did we win the World Cup? No, but... There you go. But the games she played we lost. Excuse me. Listen, I don't know, Sam Kerr, but... Oh, can I just forward it down to one player? No, I can. The interest levels in the Matilda's. Wains significantly when Sam Kerr is not there. And they're... And we're now seeing... I mean, if they lose to Zambia, well, they'll be... Tony Gustafson. I thought they lost to Zambia. No, they lost to Germany. Okay. They'll find Zambia next. So, if they don't be Zambia, Tony Gustafson, who's the coach, might as well pack his bags and ship out of Paris. Paris. Paris. Because it's done. Hey, lots of techs coming in. A lot of question. I like the... I'd like to question... I'd like to question, why is the woodpecker doing it in the first place? Been chicken. Good point, you make. And that's just what they do. That's why they call it a woodpecker, because they pack wood. It's a very good... Well, why does it... What a... Been chicken. Why does a woodchopper chop wood? I don't know. Well, why do you reckon they do? I don't know. They... They bring the tree down. They chop a tree down. Are they really? This is too much for the flooring you guys. I'm just waking up. Double-four-two says this is an amazing Friday. S-E-N-W-A breakfast has truly a learning program. Thank you. [bell dings] [sighs] Goss is just reading everyone's messages right now, hence the awkward silence. Well, you can tap dance if you want. [laughter] Morning, Goss and Ash. We'll three-o-tag Harley. Harley, Harley Boy! We've got a bit of Harley Boy there, and you win. Harley, Harley, Harley Boy! [laughter] I didn't realise how good that sound. Go again. Thanks very much. Harley, Harley, Harley Boy! Thank you, Tom. I am footy royal, thank you. That's enough now. All righty. So Harley Reid, I'm catching up with Harley today. Oh, I'm catching up with Harley and I are having a get together today. Is this the first time we get together? Yes. Yes. Excited. Not really. I think he's more excited than me than him. I'm just very serious. I'm the king. I'm famous. I'm famous, apparently, according to you. Have you got the answer there for why they peckwood? No. Right in front of you. On the screen. Oh, to establish territory. Find a mate, excavate a nesting hole or find insects. Oh, no. You go, you learn something every day. That's why they do it. So it's really easy learning show this morning. That's what it is. And it's what we try to be all the time. But when I'm working with Scott, it's like they say don't work with animals with children. But I'm glad you're here today. I thought this pricks over, why? Exactly. I'll go about this. Yeah. Kale talking about Scotty. And pretty sure that we were playing all this stuff. It was. We were playing the woodpeck on bent fabric three years ago. And always saw the jet when Gilly was in the chair three years ago. Back to Harley Reid. What's the one question you think I should ask Harley Reid? If I'm having him today, you know, Q&A? 13-12-55-0-48-7-7-3-6-7-3-6. What's the one question you want asked of Harley Reid? Now, we could all say, are you going to stay? And just one question. Our listening audience is always a little bit left field. So I want the left field question. Not the old dime a dozen Dorothy Dicks footy Q&A. And I'm also catching up with Adam Simpson today. I'm catching up with Simmo in a professional sense. And what's the one question you should ask Adam Simpson? 0-48-7-7-3-6-7-3-6. Questions for Simmo or Harley Reid today? 0-48-7-7-3-6-7-3-6. Paul Haysby after seven. Carl Rohrenlert, Jesse Dark, get your pens ready. He's in a bit of form again, which is good to see. And after 7-30 Ben Allen, of course, who was the captain in the inaugural Derby all those years ago. The inaugural Derby. You met Peter Bell the other day, didn't you? I did. How's Pete going? Well, he was lifting weights, so... Was he really good? His head goes long, got long hair, I noticed. I only know him with long hair, so that's not a thing. Is that right? No, no, very short. He was short hair, short legs. But now he's gone short legs, long hair. No, well, he's a tank. He was in the gym and then next minute, he had 38 FLW plays around him, and I think we scared him off. He's a popular man down at the football club. I know that he's the last one of them. Yeah, the last program. Absolutely do love him. Alright, let's get a break away and come back. It's 23 past six. I hope you enjoyed that. It was a very different start to our show. But Ash Brazels here, we love when Ash is in the studio, but we just need to do a reaffirm and a bit of an education for her this morning, of course. Are you back training? I am back training. You were cooked for two weeks. Yes. And the braces off the finger. Yeah, actually that two weeks has really helped my finger. So we're back. Good stuff. Good to have you back in 11.5 degrees heading for a top of 18 degrees. Ash and Goss on Friday's footy free for all. Birthdays, events, and some of the great moments in history. It's on this day. That it is. Thanks to Baron today because the little things are everything. Happy birthday, celebrating your birthday today. It's the 26th day of July. The birthday, the 81st birthday of Sir Mick Jagger. [MUSIC PLAYING] I'm so celebrating a birthday today. You'll hear this song a little later in our show. But he's 68 hunters and collectors, lead man, Mark Seymour. [MUSIC PLAYING] And 52 today. Will we see him coach again? He's part of the SCN team. Happy birthday, Nathan Buckley. And lane. Emra Schudo, one vote. [CHEERING] And Buckley, one vote. [CHEERING] Sydney, ain't good. [CHEERING] Ah, yes. A part of that triple-way, Brownlow Medalist year. Of course, Nathan Buckley, three-way tie. 52 today. Baron today. Expect nothing more. Baron today. Don't miss out on the little moments because the little things are everything. Get your pens ready. Jesse Dart's tips. We're going to be talking Carl Reinder from the F1 medical team. He's a West Aussie who's involved. We chat with him yesterday. And after seven o'clock, Paul Hayes will be. This is Ashen Goss. It's 12 degrees heading for a top of 18. Yeah? No, not the Dart. Not the Dart. Oh, it's like it's the Dart. [CHEERING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [CHEERING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Ah, yes. Time to get our tips with that great man, Jesse Dart. The more free I win, the worse he tips. Jesse, good morning. Thanks, Goss. That's a new one. Mate, come on. Lift. Are you a little bit closer last week? We need something good. Paul Hayes will be almost falling off the wagon. After the last three weeks. But let's get our teeth into this Belmont program tomorrow. There's racing in Broome today. How could that be? Nine races. Let's rattle them off. Let's share first of your three tips. I think we're sure in Sunny Broome, we said a weary Belmont. Race five for me. Goss to start off tomorrow. With Falcon Trader, we'll see Fury riding for Brett Post. One very nice thing in a 72-plus company last start. Managers to get a pretty nice weight swing just by going up in grade here. A lot of his rivals go with him up further. Again, he's won two or three from the mile. He's got a great record on soft trucks. Lots of ticks. And from barrier one, he'll be able to stalk Savage one who should set a genuine tempo. And I think he looks like a really nice chance to get the job done here. Race five, number five. Falcon Trader around that $6 mark, OK? Next. Race seven, the H.G. Bolton spring, the feature race of the day. I was with Man Crush first up in the mobile. I'm not ready to jump off just yet. I do think 1,200 meters, second up, I'm happy to go again here. He was just run off his legs by Paulie. And that is what Paulie does. He makes good horses uncomfortable with the pace he goes out of 1,000 meters. Gets the 1,200 meters now. Biggest field to contend with. But a few of the main fantasies here are fresh. And I'm just prepared to take on the likes of Red 53. And also boots like Bruce, who's been very well supported, stepping up into listed grade. I think Man Crush may be just slightly forgotten on the basis that he couldn't beat Paulie last up. All righty. So we're going race seven, number three, Man Crush. Dame in Martin, Red 53, the nail horse is named after him. And Dame in Martin is in the ownership group. And Dame in Martin has been nominated for an award for best new radio talent. Quite amazing considering he's been on air for three years. Obviously, they've just realized he's arrived. All righty, where do we go again? Guy Lander and Biggest, and we're going with another top three hope in the next race race. And I'm eight with Berg's the word, Chris Parnum Rides, the Dan and Ben Pierce. Wow. If you could bottle a horse in terms of toughest encourage, you'd sell him by the leisure at a local convenience well, God. He is just so dogged in the way he goes about his racing. He goes to the front. He rolls along. He's much like the, he's like the Paulie of four, 200 meters. He makes everyone behind him uncomfortable. And he's just always there at the end. 61 kilos is going to test him slightly, but top three chance in this field for me. He looks like he's very well played. Nice work by you, Jesse. Race five, number five. Race seven, number three. Race eight, number one. So write the numbers down 55, 73, 81. They're all each way chances. And you're margin for the Derby. I'll say doctors by 31, just with the weather. I'm not sure it's going to be as simple as some people are saying. Nice work by you. Go on your Jesse Dart. We're about to get a break away and come back. Just want to rattle off a couple of texts if we can. Dukes, I hope he's loving Friday morning with you. A fill from Ethan, a question for Simmo. How come the Eagles' nest of coaches didn't have the balls to try darling at center half back? Would Harley Reid ever try to nominate for a ruck contest? This is Darryl and try to win a stat. It's the only stat that he hasn't got this year as a ruck knock. And Jason says the woodpecker doesn't get concussed because it can extend its tongue in front of its brain to cushion it. Have a great Friday. Our audience, we do love them. Is Simmo moving back to victorious? Is Phil of Como? Harley, what's your favourite ice cream and Simmo? What's Harley's favourite ice cream and nice work? Very funny. And does tomato sauce Harley go in the fridge or the pantry? There's the old normal questions there. 13, 12, 5, 5, 0, 4, 8, 7, 7, 3, 6, 7, 3, 6. Yesterday, Scotty and I spoke to Carl Reindler. He's a West Aussie who's on the F1 circuit as the medical car driver. You'll hear that chat next and after 7 o'clock, Paul Hayserby. It's Ash and Goss Friday breakfast. Oscar Piaestri now has two more corners to go to do something that he dreamed of as a young child growing up in Melbourne. And in his second season in Formula One has finally come to pass. It is Oscar Piaestri, Grand Prix winner winner in Hungary. And for the first time, takes the check and flag and will stand on the top step of a Grand Prix podium. What a special day that was, of course, in Hungary. It's time to drill down. Thanks to Toolkit Depo, the ultimate range of trade. We're drilling down into the Formula One's, of course. And we're going to do so with the name synonymous to WA synonymous to supercar racing. And we found out we didn't even know this. That he's a part of the F1's circus. In one of the greatest gigs of all time, on a imagine. Just a whole year to kill for it. It's a pretty good game. We've got him online. He just touched down in Belgium. We appreciate his time. We're talking to Karl Rheinler, who is a part of the F1 crew. We'll find out exactly what he does. Hey, Karl, appreciate your time and welcome to SCNWA breakfast. And I'm happy to be on the show, guys. Nice to have a chat again. It's been a long time. Hey, mate. When you're sitting in the car, in the safety car, a safety car driver, we'll get to know about that job in a moment. And Ozzy. And Ozzy. And you now reside in Melbourne. And this boy is from Melbourne. And he's Australian. And it's rare that Australians dominate the F1 circuit. Was there a little bit of fist pumping going on in the driver's seat? Mate, you know, it's really hard to keep a lid on it when there's that much excitement. I mean, another Ozzy race winner is ridiculously exciting. I sit in that car and, obviously, hoping for, you know, we always say, a quiet day, a boring day in our car is a successful day. But to have Oscar sitting on the top step of the podium, I mean, it was unbelievable. I was fortunate enough to be at Qatar last year when he won his first sprint race. But the sprint race is not quite the same as the feature race. To win the feature race on Sunday was just out of this world. And I made an effort to get down to the podium and listen to the Australian anthem play. It's been a long time. In fact, it was 2021, I believe, when Daniel Riccardo won the Monza race that we last heard the Australian anthem at a Formula One race. So I'm over the moon. And I'll tell you what, Oscar is an absolute gun and superstar. And it's going to be the first of many. In fact, I put money on it that he's going to win a world championship one day. We didn't like him when he first came in. No, no, because he sort of was poo poo all over Daniel Riccardo. Who is this upstart? Let's tell you what, now we're jumping on. Dan, Dan, Dan is a good mate of all of ours as we're all West Aussies. But Oscar is a superstar as well. Yeah, well, and the best thing about it too is, and I think in the past, it's one of the, it's not a problem, but one of the things became maimed. A bit monotonous is that it was always Max Verstappen before. That's always Lewis Hamilton. You know, as long as you make it, we just win, win, win, win all the time. This is a seventh different win every other 13 races so far this season. It's making it an extraordinarily exciting season. Yeah, I'll tell you what a season it's been. I didn't realize it was seven race winners out of 13 races so far. I mean, that's probably the most exciting season we've had. And as you probably saw, Max Verstappen was hugely under pressure over the weekend and frustrated. I've never seen such emotion from that guy who's usually cool, calm and collected. So it's shaping up to be a cracker of a season. It certainly is. We're speaking with Carl Reiner. Carl, let's just confirm your role. We're doing this thanks to Toolkit Depot. Seen a better price. We'll beat it with our price boost promise. We're drilling down with Carl Reiner. What exactly your role on the F1 circuit? The F1 circuit. So I am on the medical and safety team. So a couple of years ago, this is my third season in Formula One. I drive the medical car. So when you see all the cars, the Formula One cars lined up on the grid in the two by two formation. You've got the five lights, the red lights that go on and they head off in race. I'm the car at the back of the grid. So I've got the doctors in the car with all the first intervention equipment. And we basically chased them for the first lap of the race. The highest likelihood of an incident or an accident is the first lap statistically. So we're there when it goes pear-shaped, so to speak. And it did a few times over the weekend in Hungary. We were deployed, I think, five times, a couple of times in qualifying. We saw Checo have a big accident. And obviously, Yuki? No doubt. Yes. That was a big hit that he copped. And I tell you what, he was hugely frustrated, very emotional when we picked him up in the car. Because these guys are all racing for their respective careers at the moment. Absolutely. So how quick are you going? How fast are you driving behind them? Well, it's really hard to compare. Yeah, we're in the Aston Martin DBX 707. It's got 700 odd horsepower. It's an absolute beast of a road car. But it is a road car. It's not a Formula One. So we're effectively setting our own purple sectors when we're out there. So we're hustling that thing around as hard and fast as it will allow. And I guess it sounds like a cliché, but every second does count when it comes to critical incidents like that. And we want to make sure that we are the first on the scene. And we get the doctors tending to the drivers in the event that they need any sort of special attention. So we don't mess around. Yeah. How fast are you going? As far as speed, every circuit is different. Spa this weekend is going to be quite pace. You think Baku, which is my next one after this in September, we're probably hitting in the medical card 270 to 75 K an hour. Yeah. Yeah. And real quickly. Yeah. Not messing around. That's for sure. You never drove that fast in the supercars, didn't you, Carl? Hey. Probably not. Probably not. That's an exception. But outside of Bathurst, no. It's the top speeds. Pretty amazing in that thing. It's something that people wouldn't always think about. But how much pressure is on you? I mean, you can't mess a turn or you can't come off the track. Otherwise, it's... It's embarrassing. And the drivers will be filthy on your do if they get stopped without them making a mistake. Exactly right. No, you're right. There's a huge amount of pressure on us in the medical and safety team. Burnt Mailander is the safety car driver. He's the pace car when they need to attend to an incident or do a vehicle recovery. But yeah, we can't afford to make a mistake. We are treated like the drivers. Our performance is quantified. Our lap times are measured. We get practice on the track. So I'm on track tomorrow in about 10 hours time. From now, it's past my bedtime. But I'm happy to be chatting with you blokes. And so I've got an hour on track, probably on a very wet spa. There's every chance it's going to rain here tomorrow. And the idea behind that is to shake down the car. Make sure it's doing everything we need it to, it's performing well. And make sure I'm confident with the track, where it goes. You know, the quickest way to get to the medical centre. Yeah, all those sorts of details. Oh, that's a good piece. Is your next like target, the safety car? Oh, you go from medical car to say, oh, I'm coming for you, pal. I want the safety car. Between us. Between us. Don't tell Burnt. He's got a big target on his back. He's been there. He's done 25 seasons straight now. I think it's time for him to park up. Yeah. Go ahead. Hand on his license. Surely he'll go into something. Exactly. It's on main road to WA and check his license out. No, I put a lot of pressure on him. But he doesn't fold that guy. His floorless behind the wheel. He's one of the best drivers on the planet. And he'll be there, I think, until he karks, that I think at this stage. Don't know if he does. If he does, you'll be the first person there. You'll be the first one there there. Can someone look after him? I just need to drive his car. Exactly. Is it too soon? Yeah, exactly right. Carl Rydley is our guest F1 safety car driver and a part of the Formula One circuit. So at this stage, you're sort of doing about half to sort of 60% of the races. Why is that? Is that you share the duties with someone else who's keen for the job or is it just time? What is it? Absolutely spot on. It's a combination of the things you just mentioned. We want to make sure that there is a backup driver. So I share the role with a Portuguese guy called Bruno. He's based in Portugal and we split the season roughly 50/50. So I have 13 out of 24, a little over half. And likewise, I'm balancing work here in Australia or back in Australia as well. So just to do 24 races of the year, I wouldn't see my kids or family at all. So it's fun. I love it. I feel hugely grateful and lucky to have this gig. But at the same time, I've got to balance other commitments in life. So yeah, I'll do it for a while I can and enjoy it and make the most of it. I enjoy every second that I'm here exploring these fantastic circuits being part of the Formula One circus. We're going to ask you a bit about the races to come and your thoughts of Daniel Riccardo going forward. But just in summary, is it just like when you're travelling with the group? Is it just so exciting? Are you removed from the circus, so to speak? Is it Hollywood? Are you looked after and five-star hotels and treated like us? What we see is glamour, glitz and glamour from the grid to the podium, to the hooves in the pits and the whole lot. Just give us an overview in regards to what it is like to be on the circuit. Yeah, look, it's a really good question and it's probably a combination of the two. We do get looked after and part of that is because we do have to perform on track and we stay in nice places and we eat well. But at the same time, the days are long and pretty relentless. Again, it's a first world problem. I know I'm complaining about the Fridays when we serve as F2 and F3 as well as F1. So on a Friday, we could be sitting in the car for north of seven hours, which gets pretty uncomfortable and tedious. But again, I'm sitting in a very nice Aston Martin or AMG. It is the definition of a first world problem, but it's pretty harrowing at times as well. There's been a couple of more critical or serious accidents that I've tended to that really open your eyes up and get you thinking about things. Yet I've been in a few accidents myself over my time, my career and motorsport. Yes, notably the big one in Perth back in 2011, the big fireball. For me, I find it incredibly rewarding. I feel like I'm giving back to the sport. It's kind of mixing the world that I came from and doing something that it just feels meaningful. So I love what I do. I feel so lucky. If anyone hasn't seen it, it goes right to Carl Ryan Lowe. Barbara Gallo won a row, and wow. Seriously, well, stuck on the grid and then get plowed into it just a couple hundred Ks an hour. Lucky to be talking to you today, I was just unbelievable. Honestly, jokes aside, it was a pretty serious accident. The beauty about our sport is that it's constantly evolving and the sport is safer as a result of that accident. So, yeah, other sports, you know, take it for what it is and just kind of press on. But our sport always looks at how can we improve the safety side of things. And I love that part of it. Well, we mentioned Henry Cardo. Have you seen his season so far, Carl? And obviously, all the talk about Red Bull and Sergio Perez. Does he keep his seat after this weekend or not, or then, you know, after Belgium? Have you found Danny Ric? Look, I grew up with Dan and know him really well and you have the odd conversation with him. We crossed paths, obviously, in the paddock. And I'll tell you what, the pressure that that guy's under at the moment. But him and Checo, everyone in that whole Red Bull stable is under, I feel like, more pressure than any other driver program. And he's racing for his career. I think he's performed really well lately. I mean, Hungary was a frustrating weekend for him because of the strategy that the team gave him. And he really expressed his frustration afterwards. But I think he's performing well and I think he can hold his head high. I think he knows that he's, you know, in the, call it, the twilight of his career. But at the same time, does he deserve to be there? Absolutely, he deserves to be there. I'm curious to see how it all unfolds over the mid-season break. You've got, obviously, Liam Lost, another gun Kiwi coming through. I had a really good chat to him a couple of days ago. Actually, it was the Sunday before the race in Hungary. And he's quietly optimistic about his chances as well. But you've got Yuki in the mix. I mean, who knows what helmet Marco is going to do as the director of that program. I really hope that Daniel ends up with a good gig. We picked up Checo from his big accident on Saturday afternoon and the look of dejection on his face. I mean, he was beyond gutted. I really feel for the guy because he's giving it his absolute all at the moment. And it's just not good enough, unfortunately. Three-week break after Belgium, where you are right now. We're looking forward to it and you get back to spend some time with your family, as you mentioned, over there in Melbourne and all Perth. Appreciate your time. It's an exciting time. It's great to chat to you. Last one, really short. Daniel Riccardo, will he, as mentioned to Scottie, will he or won't he be driving in F1 next year? I reckon he will be. And there's every chance we'll have a third Aussie on the grid with Jack Dylan as well, who is a superstar as well. He's done well in F2. Could you imagine having three Aussies on the grid? I mean, imagine three Aussies and a Kiwi. I mean, that's the ultimate. But to answer your question, I'm confident that Dan will have a seat on the grid in 2025. I can't wait for the start of this, because for the first time ever, I'm going to have my eyes off the starting, off the pole, off any carnage. I'll be watching some little dude in an accident, Martin, trying to chase him down on the first turn. The pressure's on now. I'll make sure I get a good reaction time off the lights. Thank you very much. A real camera time, please. Could you wear an S-E-N-W-A hat? For us, you know, a bit of Tony Bullen more coming back from the ocean a lot of years ago? You send one over and I'll make sure I wear it. All right, thanks for letting us drill down. Thanks to Toolkit Depot. I can't lose from here, surely. The car, the pole wack, three-marital, have won a classic. Paul Hazellby, with the winning goal. Three-marital win, the best ever done. The best ever doobie. We had this discussion a few times, and Mark Duffield's favourite as well. Paul Hazellby joins me. I don't think we're going to get to that stage tomorrow night, Paul Hazell. Paul Hazellby, good to have you on the show. Good morning. Hey, good day, Ash, Tim. Great to be with you. My favourite derby as well. What a good ending to that one. But who knows? Go back fast forward to what happened in round six. The West Coast Eagles were pretty good. I know a lot has changed, but you just never know. And this is a pretty experienced West Coast side that they've done. We're talking footy with Hayes. Thanks to Sonos Experience game-changing sound this season with Sonos Hayes. As you know, earlier in the week, I threw up the Ken Hinckley when I was threw up on Sunday and then re-backed over it again on Monday that Ken Hinckley had certainly come into commission at the West Coast Eagles as a contender that they want to speak to. Ken Hinckley spoke about it at his press conference yesterday. Five games in our season, hopefully in more to play. And it's really clear about one thing is that I'm coaching Port Adelaide and I love coaching Port Adelaide. I know a contractor continued to coach Port Adelaide. What do you think of that, Hayes? Well, I don't know what you did to Josh Carr. He had a fair crack at your work when he was interviewed as well. But yeah, no, I don't doubt your story. There's no doubt that West Coast would have some interest in Ken Hinckley, but that's the right way to answer it. I think that's all it is. Interest from their part. Is he going to entertain it? I just can't see a situation where he can entertain it. You know, the amount of investment he's put into that football club and they're right in the mix from final this year that unless West Coast puts everything on hold until the end of Port Adelaide's campaign, I just can't see that he will take those sort of meetings and go through the process, which they need to go through. I think they need a process. As I said, unless they just want to give him the job and then they probably have to tell everybody else. And it just makes it difficult, I think. So I can't see it happening, but it doesn't say that there's no interest. Yeah. But you talk about going through the process haze, but every coach is in the system at the moment. Every coach is in the senior coach. So, I mean, basically, West Coast Eagles can't interview anybody until the season's over for the respective clubs, which is what I said about Dean Cox, which I said, this is why the Dean Cox situation was awkward, because if Dean was going to commit and they were going to go after Dean Cox, he was going to have to step away from Sydney because you can't be coaching a team and not doing your job at West Coast when West Coast don't have time to be sitting back with player exit meetings, recruiting ideas, coaching staff appointments because every single coach at West Coast is out of contract. So they're in a really awkward situation, doesn't matter who they get. Yeah, it's different though with assisting coaches. They get the blessing from their clubs to go and take those meetings. So that's just a quick flight in to Western Australia. It might be held inside their own state where they have those meetings with the people that are put in place to select the next coach. So I think it's a little bit different, but I just can't see somebody with high integrity, like Ken Hinkley, leaving his club to go and have that sort of meeting. Yeah, well, Ma'am, is that no one has spoken to Ken Hinkley directly? And I quote, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, yet. Adrian Hinkmont's name seems to be gaining a bit of traction, too. I know Will Schofield on his podcast was very keen on it. I heard David King this morning very keen to get him. And of course, Sam Mitchell, who has a connection with Hinkmont. Of course, they coaching together at Hawthorne, but also they were at West Coast together. What's your thoughts on Adrian Hinkmont's chances of possibly putting his hat in the ring? And is it too soon to be going back to a club that you walked out on two years ago? Well, look, Jamie Graham walked out, too, and he's one of the candidates as well. And sometimes it's a smart business to get out of the right time and have that foresight to see where a club's going to go. And I reckon Jamie probably saw that. He said, West Coast might slide and might get to another club for him and offered him that position. And he's in a better spot now for that role. I don't know much about him individually, except that he's been around for a long time, played the game. It helps that you're at a club that's on the rise in Hawthorne, albeit they're not in the finals just yet. But I think it's going to be one of those processes where it's going to come down to how they perform. In those meetings to determine who the winner is going to be, I think there's no favourite. It could go to anyone. And it's just going to be who blows the board away when they have those meetings. Is there a timeline where a coach will get announced? Or is it, what do you think, Goss, with that? Well, again, it goes back to the discussion about West Coast cards sit on their hands. And because they can't wait until the October to be announcing a coach, in my opinion, unless their coach is coaching the Grand Final, which it's not going to be the case. But, hey, is your thoughts on this? Because, as I said, they've got to make decisions on their list, on their coaching staff, the direction of the football club. There's a lot to happen at a football club, and they've got to use September when they're out of commission, which are going to be in five weeks time, they've got to move quickly to shore up their future. Do they go after Tim English, Liam Baker, Chad Warner, D-list, Jack Darling. What are they going to do? There's a lot to happen, isn't there? I mean, I know they sometimes say, hey, that coaches don't make all those decisions. But I think you're through a coach coming into the West Coast, do you want to have a fair say on it? Well, you've got 25% say, normally there's four people that have put together, but you've probably got 60% influence in what happens in those meetings, is who you want at your football club. So I would hope that it would be in position by the start of finals, so they can have all those meetings, and that's when some of the teams start to drop out, and that's where you might meet with the Tim English, because there's no doubt that Tim English, he won't go to the West Coast, unless he knows who the coach is. And he has a good rapport, and they have a good first meeting, before he makes a life-changing decision to commit to six years at the West Coast Eagles. Then there's the decisions to be made on the whole list, and look, I think you can have other people that can help with that, including Don Pike. But I want to throw this one back to you, Tim. If Don Pike wasn't the CEO right now, and he's still at Sydney, would he be the number one candidate for the West Coast? 100%, 100%. We said this from day one. If Trevor Nisbet was still at the West Coast Eagles as the CEO, Don Pike would be coaching. Can you see a situation where the board actually make the call and say, mate, we think you should be in the process, and then in the search then turns two, and you see how it is. They're an obvious new CEO. Let me just say, again, we said exactly this straight away, that Don Pike, and that's why the question was asked by Mark Duffield in the press conference that Adam Simpson left, we raised that on the morning of that press conference and said the question would have to be asked if there's no better candidate available, or believing that they could handle the next group to transition a more seasoned coach after some tough years, which we know could be. They do a lot worse than go for Don Pike. If he still has that coaching connection in his mind that he thinks he could do it, 100% agree, and I'm sure there would be someone who could do the CEO's job. I'm absolutely 100% positive. So I still don't think it's out of the question. So I totally agree with you. Hey, I want to talk to you about some of the players that got dropped by the West Coast Eagles. With it in, Jermaine Jones, Patrick Shelley, and Chesa. If you were to, again, I don't want to be disrespectful to any of those players because I'm a Jermaine Jones fan. I think he brings energy. I know sometimes he skill sets out and he's lack of accountability, but I still think he brings in energy. Patrick Shelley, you know, he's in and out of the side. Chesa just hasn't lived up to the hope. And Alex Witherdon has been a bit of a whipping boy for the team. Should they all be concerned right now being dropped a month out when your team's going as bad as they are that they're not in the team? No, 100%. And a lot of those players don't have contracts. So, you know, they'll be a fool to not realise that their career is on the line. Right now, look, Jermaine Jones, you're right in what you're saying, but he's been frustrating, I think, and given where he's out in his career, he should be performing more consistently. They didn't have any tackles inside there for 50 on the weekend, and he played a part in that. Well, I think Witherdon's been OK this year, and he's probably one that I would go forward with for another season. Not one that you'd pick every single week next year, but you just have somebody like that with experience that can come into the team if you did get an injury to your preferred 23. Chesa, agree with that one. I think Edward was pretty lucky for what I saw last week. He's been the ball over, and he's one that's been given a lot of opportunity this year, but I'm just not seeing that progression and growth. I know you can't get rid of all of them, but I found that one a little intriguing, and maybe Petra Shelley would have been better serviced on the team. But I like the method of skill fit in relation to nobody's safe. Everybody's on edge, and even bringing Jack Darling back in. To drop a player and bring him back, he's not the worst. Sharpens everybody up, sharpens that player up, and everybody's on notice. Tom Barris plays his 150th. If you're a West Coast Eagles fan, I suggest you go to... I don't know about the timing of this, but there's a video piece of Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barris that they've put together to music and a couple of grabs from Jeremy McGovern about playing with Tom Barris. I don't know whether this is a public appeal by the Football Club, but it certainly does, considering all the speculation that Tom is being sought after by Hawthorne and also the Western Bulldogs. I suggest that West Coast Eagles fans go and have a look, and it's actually quite an emotional piece of how connected the two gentlemen are in McGovern and Barris. What is your thoughts on going forward with Tom Barris? A three-year deal. He has been quoted very strongly as saying he's not going anywhere, unless they pull the rug underneath him. Or do you think the West Coast Eagles would entertain a thought of trying to do some type of deal to get themselves a bigger draft pull and a pick pull and try and get some sort of capital to go after some other players for the future? I just think a material conversation has to happen. There's been a lot of talk around this for a long time. This is probably three years now in the making, there's been rumours. And you've been in this game for a long time. The rumours don't come from nowhere. Like right now, Caleb Sarong's a great player, but there's no contract talk from other clubs around Caleb Sarong because it's easily dismissed from player, but also management. When you say no, he's not available, he's definitely staying at that club. But it doesn't seem that that's getting through to a lot of the other clubs. They believe he's gettable. And we're seeing something similar with Dan Houston at the Port Adelaide Football Club. And when they smoke, there's fire. And I feel it could be a win for both. Particularly given that he is contracted for so long, if you were to let him go, he would only be for a top ten pick. Maybe even better than that, where they can get another pick down the track and position himself really well in the draft. Then you go to the draft, you take the best defender potentially in the draft. It's going to take a bit of time. But even for Tom Barrasaside, he's one of those guys that I think would love the opportunity to come. Look, not just play at another club, but explore and live in another city. That sort of guy that I think would have liked to get to Sydney or maybe Melbourne for the cultural reasons of those particular states. For him to then get a five-year guaranteed contract and a chance right now to be the difference in one of those sides. And you look at Hawthorne, he goes into that side right now. There are Contender. He goes into the Bulldogs right now. There are Contender as well. So I think we just need to have a mature conversation. They will have that. And I think it could be a win for both clubs and players. Yeah, it's interesting too, because I saw Tom Barras do a podcast with Dylan Buckley and he spoke about the loss of his dad and his loss of his cam McCarthy. He was one of his besties and getting to know them and his young family. I have a sneaking suspicion in the back of my mind that Melbourne would be a bit of a getaway. For Tom, I think Tom would appreciate going to a football state. There's something in me that says Thomas had to deal with a lot more. I'm not talking about footy stuff, just life stuff in more recent times than I think it might have weighed him down. That might be an upstumps move for the family. Might be a good thing, but he's so connected to the hit with Gov and his kids and his family in Western Australia. He's a corporate twixt in between. Kane and Kingie are saying on SCN this morning that Don Pike should coach the Eagles and not Ken Hinckley. So that's further to what you've already discussed. And again, going back to what we said on the day that Simo got the lemonade. Just the last one on this Derby. Michael Walters, the timing of his injury. Played a full game last week. It looked like he was up and about four goals. Again, a play at the back end of his career again in such a vital time for the football club, again being a veteran. The injury comes in a bad time for some people, and this really could be a difficult time for Michael Walters going forward. Yeah, he does, but the timing of the four goals was the thing that's going to probably give him every chance to get back in the side. How do you not kick those four goals and play well on the weekend? I look back to his form. And there was probably five or six weeks where he's just a little bit down. And then he had the hamstring, so a mystery. He came back sub twice, and then he got the opportunity. He got the opportunity really to come on because Matthew Johnson got injured. So he came in, started and kicked the four. So I think the confidence he gets from that, I think the confidence that the coaching staff get to say, okay, there's still a bit more left in Michael Walters. We know he's a big game performer. Hard to measure female against Melbourne because they've just dominated them. Dominated them so much in recent times with that win on the weekend and the one that we saw in our Springs. They definitely play well against them, but it helps. And now Tom Emmett gets a chance to come into the side. So it's fascinating to see that they've gone with another forward instead of replacing Matthew Johnson with a Brody type or an Erasmus type who's back available from his concussion. They've gone with Tom Emmett who needs to stand up because he was preferred at the start of the year and has had a pretty different disappointing season. All right, we're going to get our tips in a moment. And Ash is going to drive us through the tipping and the like that. Before we do that, let's just back over 8th of July. So what's that, 18 days ago? We had this to sound Scotty on Goss the day that Adam Simpson was told what we said that he wasn't going to have the job. And this is our discussion in regards to Don Pike. I'm telling you now. Well, Pike, he's got a fairly decent coaching record. This is quietly. [LAUGHTER] Do it, do it, do it, see your coach. You'd have to have a pretty good two IC. He doesn't have to be the CEO. He doesn't need to sleep. He doesn't need the money either. He doesn't have to be the CEO. So, all right, question without notice. Is Don Pike a candidate to coach West Coast? It's not unrealistic, Scotty. It is unless Don Pike comes out and says, I'm not going to put my hand up. If Don Pike doesn't slide into that position as CEO replacing Trevor News, but I am going to tell you now his name would be talked about at the top of the list. So that's what we said back then. And then Duff went to the press conference and asked Don Pike that. And I am not 100% convinced Don Pike answered the question fully. Are you there, Hose? Yeah, I'm here. I thought you were waiting to play some audio for Don Pike. No, don't do that. He didn't answer the question. He certainly didn't answer the question. He just went, he sort of pushed it aside. But anyway, look, there's a lot to play out. There's a lot to play out. All right, let's get our teeth into the tips. And at the moment, I'm still holding sway. In fact, I might have just gone one further ahead of you last week. We don't have our tips panel up on our screen at the moment. But let's go through the mash. Big week of footy this week, first up Friday. We have Carlton Port Adelaide Marble Stadium. Last time, Port actually played Carlton. They got a smashing. Is there a redemption round this round in? Yeah, they got hold of them late. There's no doubt about that. Patrick Crips is unbelievable in that game. And they had Cottrell, who did a pretty good job on Zack Pudders. They got a couple of injury concerns. The Carlton Football Club. As I say, every time I come on, with the Friday night game, there's always an upset, which was last week, that way. I would like to let Tim pick. We're going to rotate this round for one. But I'm going to go the upset. And I'm tipping purely here to beat Tim Gossack in the tipping. So I'm going to go the upset in this one and go with Port Adelaide. Yeah, I am. I am absolutely all over Port Adelaide for this. I 100% agree. I think... What are you laughing at? I'm being serious. I have tipped Port Adelaide. You're just going to stick with what I was talking about. No, I'm happy to get a mix and match with you. So I am also tipping Port Adelaide. You have tipped Port Adelaide. No, can I change my tip then? I would like to go back to Carlton. No, are you? Okay. Which one do you want to go for? Who do you want to tip? I'll go Port Adelaide. Yeah, Port Adelaide for me. Port Adelaide for me. Carlton for Hammer. As well, I'm on 106, Haze is on 103, Scotty's on 93, and I don't think we've got his tips we should have, but we don't. And Hammer's on 91. All right, let's go to the second one. I'm not sure he's going to go an upset for this game, Haze. But North Melbourne, Geelong Cats on Saturday. What are we thinking? Is it Tazzy? Hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey. There's a lot of side as you think. Let me tell you right here. Well, Geelong did have a loss last week, a big loss. And they are slow, and North Melbourne are not slow. So, Stephen said... How are you going, North Melbourne? Very much pointing towards North Melbourne. Very much pointing towards North Melbourne. But I'm not brave enough to tip North Melbourne. Yeah, I don't think I am. But I believe in what you're saying, that I think through the midfield, that's where they're vulnerable, and they've had to make some change with Tom Stewart spending a bit more time in there. But he's building into the midfield of North Melbourne, but I think Geelong, too much on the line, they should just get there. Yep, Geelong for me. North Melbourne for Hammer and Geelong for Scotty. Saturday, 2.35, we have Gold Coast Suns, the Brisbane Lions. The Brisbane Lions are on the rise. Big win against the Spartans last week. Yeah, they are. Tomah Goldie, though. Doesn't matter, it's still Queensland. Yeah, it is Queensland. So they will handle the conditions better. I think that's been the Achilles heel for a few teams that are going up to take on the Gold Coast. But they haven't been beaten yet. The Gold Coast Suns are at home, so I'm going to stick with them, I think. One more yell from Brisbane to being out for a long time. So Gold Coast for me. They will dismay to use a word that I think should be in the Oxford Dictionary. Brisbane will spifflicate the Gold Coast Suns. They are that far better than the Gold Coast Suns. It's not funny. Hammer's gone, the Suns. We've got a split. Great. Haze has gone, the Suns. Scotty and I have gone for the Brisbane Lions. You can't tip against the Lions. They are the red-hot team of the competition at the moment. Yeah, we've got St Kilda, Essendon at Marvel Stadium. We'll Essendon bounce back. Yeah, they should. They were the two rucks last week. They don't really work. Gold stings out. We need a bit more out of there. Pull back in Ben Macare, who's been disappointing in recent times. But I wasn't believing in this team that it wasn't like years gone by. I'm still not convinced, but I'll give them one more chance against this day. Yeah, Essendon for me. No doubt. I think so. St Kilda got a free hit last week against West Coast. So we're going all three have gone. Essendon, Goss, that's me. Myself, Scotty and Haze, and Hammers just... I don't know what Hammers trying to make up Lost Ground. He's on 91. He's gone for the Saints. In 5.30 on the Saturday, we have Melbourne, the sitting tenth. The Giants, sitting fifth. Ken Melbourne, get back in the eight. Oh, not the Melbourne that takes on Fremantle. Of course, I've seen them, they're very average. They had improved things. The Giants are rolling new extension for their coach. Sam Taylor back in the past. I think they're going to make a run like they did last year towards the top four. So the Giants for me to maybe end it for Melbourne. That chance is getting slim. Yeah, I agree. Melbourne out of their misery now. Yeah, the Giants for me, I think they will travel OK. We've all gone for the Giants, GWS, GWS, GWS. We need a margin for the next game. Oh, margin. Also, I want to talk about the free and West Coast game. WA, people out there. Do the Dockers talk about the last time that they played Eagles? Or has it just not forgotten about that game? And here we are, sitting fourth on the ladder. No, I think they look at it absolutely because they would look at the clearance numbers. And also a contested possession. Mainly 132 to 108. It was in that game. So that's a smashing. Now 59 turn-out is to 44. So the Eagles were able to maintain a lot of pressure on the ball. A bit has changed. And I remember after the game, and I hate saying this, but it was a mulligan for free. They were just off that entire game. And it probably doesn't represent what they brought every single week. The match-ups are always big in dirties. But I think Fremantle voted a few different layers to their game. That doesn't just rely on contest anymore. They've moved the ball really well for the back-up last week. And a lot of that was handle game, too. So their kicking game has always been good order. But now their speed through the corridor from the back-up and handle was elite on the weekend. And they rated pretty highly. So I think West Coast was a good one. I think West Coast was a good one. I saw a start, Hazy, that the freer, the 11 wins. Their average Hamball Meters game was 240 Meters. And then the six losses they've had, they've only done 16 Meters. So they've obviously been working pretty hard on that Hamball game, for sure. Yeah, and if you look at what happened with West Coast last week, they didn't put a tackle on in their back-50s. So their Hamball out of the back-54 free over the easy this week unless West Coast can improve that. But it seems they can stop them from doing it and put a lot of numbers around the ball on pressure. And execute that for four quarters. We'll challenge them. I'm not sure West Coast at this point have the calorie to do that. So I will go Fremantle by 32. Yeah, Fremantle by 32. Hamout Fremantle by 111. Scotty Fremantle by 42. And I am West Fremantle by 74. I think it'll be pretty lopsided. I've got not a great deal of hope for West Coast Eagles. And it is a dock as Derby get along and support. Sunday's fixtures. Yep, Sunday morning. We have Collingwood versus Richmond. Can Richmond stop their losing streak? They're a chance. They're absolutely a chance. They've been playing some pretty good footy day in that game for a long time on the weekend. Richmond against Port Adelaide. But they couldn't get near Collingwood. Geezer, they're big to do it if they lost. I don't think it will be. I think Collingwood will be good enough just to keep their slim chances of loss. Yeah, we've all gone for Collingwood. Yep, we've got Swans the Bulldogs at the SCG. Can Sydney do it without Pappley? This is a real danger game. This is a real danger game for Sydney. Brave to tip against Sydney, though still. But the dogs are coming. They're barking loud. I'm going to go Sydney, but with not a lot of confidence. Well, they need to win this game. They know the Bulldogs really. If they want to make finals for you, they're still not inside the A. And it feels like we're talking about them so good. But they've got to get there. That's the frustration that they've got. Rory Lobb has been amazing. They lose it. There's a couple of defenders as well. Sydney at home, very difficult to put it on. I'll back them to bounce back. We've all gone for Sydney apart from Hammer, who's gone for the dogs in the last game of the round? Adelaide Hawthorne. I'm enjoying Hawthorne's game lately, but it is in Adelaide. Yeah, they've been in good form too, Adelaide, since the buy. Hawthorne, they went there early in the year. They had that game against Port Adelaide, where they lost it in the last 45 seconds. I think they had two goals tipped against them. So, the venue holds no fears for them. I'm a big believer of the story. It's like a Leicester win in the Premier League all those years ago. Imagine if Hawthorne went on and won this championship. It would be one of the all-time great championship wins whatever had the privilege to witness. So, for that to happen, they need to win, and I think they will. Yeah, Adelaide, you said Adelaide, but hard to tip against them when they're in Adelaide. And they're up and about at times, but yeah, Hawthorne for me. The lips go quickly like this. The Port Adelaide Carlton game, Hammers the only one that's gone for Carlton. Hammers the only one that's gone for North Melbourne against the Cats. We're split on the Suns and the Lions. We're three of us have gone for Essendon and Beets and Kilda. Hammers gone for the Saints. You can see what he's trying to do. We've all gone for GWS, and we've all gone for Freo. We've all gone for the Pirates. We've all gone for the Hawks. And all of us, except Hammer, has gone for the Sydney Swans. He's gone for the Dogs. Hey, it's appreciate your time. Tomorrow night AFL Nation looking forward to it. Are you on here this afternoon between 3 and 5? Absolutely, I mean, Martin was up for a big act. Yes. Can you get the Martin? That's what I just said, quite bizarre, really. But anyway, I did say we weren't sure what time you're on here. Now, starting the chickens are coming home to roost. Can I ask you a question? Make sure you ask him a question. Red 53 resumes a Billmont tomorrow. Just remind yourself. No worries, I'll let him know. Tell the listeners that no doubt he'll put in Matos Molten. Exactly right, as 29 passed as 7. The poor has me with me tomorrow night for AFL Nation. We appreciate him. A co-host of the Run Home. Let's get a break away for some news. Ben Allen joins us after. Sports update time. Get discounted prescriptions and save money at Chemist Ware. Has Chris Plafunas is in? Good morning. And don't forget, take part in the endless Derby. It is the Western Derby this weekend. You'll be guilty. Guess the total net margin between Eagles and Freo. And you can win two GA tickets to the 48 Optus Stadium. Head to Ikenwin.com.au. That is thanks to the Bank of Queensland, the human kind of Bank. And today we'll see the joint press conference between interim coach Jared Schofield and Justin Momure. That's today at 1220 PM. So, listen out for that. Very interesting. Speaking of coaches and coaching appointments, Sam Mitchell was on SCM Breakfast Firewall Friday this morning. He was asked about Adrian Hickmott and David Hale. This is what he had to say. I mean, we challenged that with all our coaches about their future plans and their aspirations and where they'd like to be. I mean, it's really an interesting position as a head coach because there's a part of me that would absolutely love Hick to get an opportunity to be a head coach because I think he would be fantastic at it. And they're the part of me that would be heartbroken because I'd lose him from my own staff. So, you know, I think if I was, if I was West Coast, I'd be certainly picking up the phone to both David Hale and Adrian Hickmott to be honest. I think they're both, they're both potential head coaches that would very, very much be missed from us if they were to get that job, but would be successful in their roles. It's interesting. Don Pie hasn't been at West Coast. Well, I don't think since it was, while Adrian Hickmott was there. So, there was a bit of an overlap there. But yeah, the jungle drums are beating and we'll scope here who knows that coaching staff was very strong on Sam Mitchell's role in the 2018 flag is similar to that of Adrian Hickmott. We'll watch this with interest, of course. It's going to be very interesting. A lot of different names are going to be thrown up over the next few weeks, aren't they? So, I'm sure some more names will be popping up here and there. West Coast fever head coach Dan Ryan says they're ready to take on the Melbourne Vixens on Saturday. They have a chance to make it into the grand final to take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Ash, thoughts, fever, can they do it? Will they make it? Oh, I think it's theirs to lose. When you've got a Janille Fowler, for those who don't know who Janille Fowler is, she is of the LeBron James of Netball. Last week scoring 67 from 67 and they only scored 72 points. So, she's a beast, really hard to beat. They've got four diamonds though with the Vixens. But the fever have three Jamaicans, one English player and one diamond. So, it is an international game and can't wait to watch it. Well, if they lose, we'll be off them for it now. So, and the final is in squares. Adelaide. Again, Adelaide. Have they had a remarkable transformation? Adelaide went from wooden spinners to premiers last year. Why so? I hate saying this first. It's just the Jamaicans. They're just too good. They've got two at the back and their defence end is unbelievable. We have... They goal keeper, Shamira Stirling actually was the first player last week to ever reach 300 intercepts and she's only been playing for like five seasons in like the history of Netball. Liz Ellis didn't even do that and we've got her. Someone playing for five years doing that. Chelsea Pittman played for Adelaide. Chelsea Pittman played for a lot of teams. Adelaide being one of them. She's there now? No, she's actually in England being the head coach of one of the new sides over there. Yeah, she actually even played for England in the World Cup last year. She was all fever. I think she played for Australia and New Zealand and England. Yeah, she was at the fever, she was at five birds. She's done the rounds. She's been to multiple countries and multiple clubs. She's doing very well. Just... No one wants her. Everyone wants her. What a staff. Just tough on her. We touched on the Matilda's very early on. They went down three nil to former gold medalists. Germany in their opening group game at the Paris Games. Tony Gustafsson said a couple of days ago, I think, I've watched hundreds of hours of footage of Mary Fowler to try and utilise her best in the team. She should have watched some footage of Germany of the other players for the Matilda's. She got smacked three nil because she's just focusing on Mary. He's cooked at Tony out. It's a very tough call, you make. I want to go back to Ken Hinkley. Again, we've played this earlier. We played a very small snapshot of it. Here's the extended Ken Hinkley ash. This is Ken Hinkley we're asked about. And I'm trying to work out whether Ken Hinkley is completely out of the running and not interested at all about entertaining a thought of the West Coast Eagles. We know that if Porto make the finals, he's got another year to run on to his contract and the word you'd say probably wouldn't survive because it's just not good enough in Port Adelaide. We don't make the finals. This is what he had to say. We've got to break. Have a listen to this. This is Ken Hinkley on his press conference, he'll say about his link to West Coast. Do you hear the outside noise coming out of Perth during the week? Sure, I don't have to answer those questions. We've got a big job. We've got a big job, we've got five games in our season, hopefully in more to play. And it's really clear about one thing is that I'm coaching Port Adelaide and I love coaching Port Adelaide and I have a contract to continue to coach Port Adelaide. Is it frustrating hearing that though? No, not at all, not at all because I'm so used to it. Everyone's so used to it in the competition. It's like there has to be a story and there has to be someone that they talk around. I mean, I get it. There's a lot of other people that's been mentioned. Unfortunately I get mentioned lots of times on different things. [MUSIC] I'm not so sure. I'm not so sure he should be playing that song. I think he might have changed camps. It would be that he's got a connection to the Fremantle Football Club. But he is now somewhat of a magpie due to the exploits of his son. Ben Allen joins us, of course, and aims synonymous to WA and names synonymous to Fremantle and names synonymous to Derby. Beno, appreciate your time. Hey, Tim, how are you going? Good to have a chat. Yes. Ash Prassel is also with us. Are you excited about this Derby? Are you a bit like Scotty and me this week going, "Oh, okay. How do we try and extract some interest in this game?" I know there's plenty at stake for Fremantle in particular. What's your vibe going into a Derby like this? I think that's a point, Tim. There's something at stake for free over there. They've set their season up so well. They look like to me that they're really getting their form at the right time. At the right time of the year, which is so important, getting through July and the cold months of Melbourne and to a certain extent is really important. So I think free over going forward throttle because I think they've seen all the supporters have seen. This is a year that anything can happen. Earlier in the year, though, they came terribly unstuck in a Derby. Do you just think it was a mindset thing? When you look back at that game and they were never in it. Seven goals to nothing and it was they were chasing their tail from that point onwards and a kid called Harley Reid came on to the scene and said, "Frieo, who? What is your vibe on how much they'll learn from that?" Well, I think everyone's allowed a mulligan or two, aren't they? Throughout the year, it was a strange result. I put it halfway through the year when Justin gave in a bit of a public bake with how they were playing was really smart. I think they've gained a huge amount of confidence, particularly from that Sydney win. How long ago was that maybe a month ago? They're probably thinking, "Yeah, are we good enough? Are we good enough?" But then when you take on Sydney and Sydney win, they've been given a huge amount of confidence, I think. So, yeah, I think they're in to this, up to their eyeballs. Not just the Derby, but the season. Their risk profile was sensational. Look at the young guys that they've got in. You know, Brad and Walker Chapman and Jordan Clark, they're 21, 22 and 23. Their midfield is going as good as anyone. I think that's the crux of the team. Caleb Sarong's in brilliant form. He's stopped his work, I think, in the top handful in the hour. So, we saw it last week against Melbourne, how strong he was inside, but with Bradshaw and Hayden Young, those three. If anything happens to one of them, I think they might have a bit of an issue, but those three, I think, are stronger, and they've got such good balance amongst them. They're not the same type of players. So, that's the key of the team. I think those three midfielders. Hey, Ben Ashbrassel here. I've actually done the opposite to you. So, I've gone from Collingwood to Frigo, and you've always gone through now. Your son's playing at Collingwood. But when you are on a weekend, this is just a random question out there. We're not talking the actual derby at the moment. Do you still watch Frigo? Or are you more invested in the players' games? Of course I watch Frigo, Ash. I'll start living furthermore. Yeah, no, I'm apt to see how well they're going. I mean, you probably weren't even born when the first derby was created all those years ago, which makes Tim and I feel really old, but that's another story. So, it's very hard to throw that 30-year history away. You can also call on the family and edit at Collingwood. You know, blood-sticking, the more there's no question. But there's a soft spot for Pre-O, of course. How's it going? He had that debut game over here, and then to much the surprise of Ben, he was out of the team not long after. What's his situation at the moment? He's got okay. He missed last week with a little nickel. He didn't play in the reserves, but he'll play in this week. It's been interesting for Collingwood reserves because, obviously, the amount of injuries that the league teams have that's filtered down to the two. So, it's been a difficult year for them, but I think in terms of development, he's still cracking the right way. Alrighty. You know Don Pike well. You know him very well. And the speculation continues to grow that until Don Pike officially rules himself out of the running that he might still put his head up to be the coach of the West Coast. There he goes. Can you see it then? Can you see it? Well, he is talented. He can do everything, but, you know, once he's committed to that, see, I roll, he's committed to that. See, I was just thinking, just out of interest with his step. What number derby is it coming up? 54. 959. 59 is this? 59, yeah. Okay, 59. Have you done everyone? No, I reckon I've missed three or four maximum. Okay. Well, there won't be too many officials or media people like you that have done everyone. So, you're the man that we should be talking about about, you know, the history of the derby. Yeah, it's a lot closer than many people. It's got him waves, you know, with the domination when they, you know, it was set up club against Matt, and when that hurt initially, the numbers, and then Fremantle goes for a surge of dominating. Now we're seeing, you know, again, Fremantle with that upset last time with West Coast wing. It's a little bit bizarre, but I do think it will be, I think they will. I have used this word a lot this week, Ben. I'm going with it again. I think Fremantle will spifflicate West Coast. I don't know. I think it'll get really ugly. I think you see when you've got the other thing I didn't talk about was how well Sean Darcy and, I think, with Jackson are combining everyone was commenting on that, you know, why would you need two Ruckman and, but you get two Ruckman of different types that they are and that can work so well together. And that's a huge asset for them. You look at Melbourne last week and you can't believe that Grundy was there for a year and all of a sudden Melbourne had them at a Ruckman and they're just exposed hugely in the clean area of, you know, of stationary contests and contested balls. So, you know, Darcy and Jackson, they're a great year, aren't they? All righty, really quickly. Last question. We've only got 30 seconds. Ash, who wins the Glen Dining Allen medal? Did I say it right? Gosh, yeah, that's Ben. Well, Ben Allen is named after him. So, the Glen Dining bin hadn't been true. Glen Dining, I just said it wrong before. Who wins it? Hey, you know, you know I don't have a vote, Ash, but definitely for me, I'd say the favourites are all. Yeah, all right. Are you presenting tomorrow? I'm presenting the Doctor Time Games, Jim. Oh, of course. All right. All right. It is. I've got mail. I don't know who's voting on it, but I've got mail. It's Scott Cummings. If it is, look out for a random result. Oh. Appreciate your time. Enjoy the game tomorrow. Thank you. Good on you. There's Ben Allen. Oh, it's good to chat with him. Okay. Exactly right. It could be the first time in history that a vote has been given to Nick Daikos even though he's not talking to Derby. That's how much good he comes. Oh, I don't think Daikos. What a nice work by you today. Thanks for having me, Daikos. Good on you, Griff. Good on you, Chris. Stay with S-E-N. Don't forget the Derby tomorrow night. If you're going to the game, put your plugs in. Have a listen to it. S-E-N stadium. If you're at home, you want to hear the real commentary? S-E-N. Thanks for coming. It's Scotty and Goss for breakfast.
