[Music] Probably won't be hearing that song on Saturday night. I don't know about that mate, I've got them rumbling and we're trying to build this rivalry up and we normally will have our listeners looking after each other but Lisa's jumped in, gossed a flop mantle, will not spiflicate the ears, the eels can and will win the derby, any team is gettable on the day. This is what's going to happen. Adam Seward, do you know Sellers, if I ask you, so Adam Seward joining us, Premium Shipstar, if I asked you Sellers playing 16 derbies, what's his win loss? 15 won. 16. What are we talking about? Yeah, it wasn't great. What are we talking about Sellers? It brings bad luck. Well, it sort of goes fixed with adding love at the moment down at West Coast. John, tell me your good morning, man. Thanks for joining us. Tell us your fight up here. We're trying to, well, to be honest, we're really trying to manufacture some interest in this one but we're trying to fire up the town and get everyone up and a bear for this derby. How do we go about doing that? Yeah, well, good luck with it. I think really for the eagles, boys, there's a few careers that need to be played for and, you know, uncertainly with coach and that might be moving forward. So I would think if one of those players have been on the periphery or get in the back end of my career that I'm definitely going out and giving it my best because I want to make sure I've got a spot next to you. Very much so. So there's a bit of, sadly, a bit of self-preservation for a few players and maybe the result is inconsequential. So in regards to, and we're going to ask you more about the derby and getting up for a derby. We've spoken to Bellas, Hayden Bellantone, and gave a free amount of perspective of that. But look, I don't want to use the opportunity to have you on in an interview to sort of get some behind-the-scenes chat. But Mark Duffield has thrown Scott Sellwood up as a name that many people are talking about, maybe putting his hat in the ring and for the major part that he's played at Collingwood in their premiership win of last year and taking no responsibility for their crash and burn this year. Have you spoken to Scooter? Is there any sort of, does he harbor an ambition to be a senior coach any time soon? I enjoy these coaching costs. I mean, he had a really good apprenticeship over there with Collingwood. He headed over about four or five years ago as a development coach, then went into the hubs and took on line coaching duties and moved through. I think stoppage work, he did the midsealed last year as a premiership winning team and now he's in the forward line. So the fact that, yeah, they're not winning games at the moment, he might blame someone else to say, "Well, the ball's not getting in the forward line, so that might look good for him." But look, yeah, I heard his name was getting thrown around last year. I think he's got an ambition to keep progressing and maybe taking on one of those roles one day. It's a nice fit for a club that you might have played for before, but I do know there's a lot of great candidates that will probably put their hand up to this role. If he wants to work through the process and he thinks he's ready, then, yeah, it's definitely worth going through and gaining that experience as well. Does it surprise you any that Ash Hanson, his premiership team mate of yours and Jamie Graham, who you know very well as well, are at the top of the tree. If they go down the new coach line, that's for the club to decide. We've been discussing that over the last few days of whether they need a development coach or they need Ken Henkley, Chris Scott, John Longmire. If a job became available for the next three or four years to set it all up because it's going to be a long burn and a slow burn for the West Coast Eagles to get back up and running. What's your view on what sort of coach they need from an outsider looking back? Yeah, well, Jamie Graham and Ash Hanson are tremendous leaders and coaches and I'm not surprised at all that they should be. One of the first few people that I think West Coast should be speaking to that got the most out of their careers. They both had very different journeys. I think the club needs someone who has a development focus. It's going to be a young list for a number of years and there's going to have to be some turnover off the list with the old guys moving on and you guys coming through. You can go either way. You can bring in an experience who have done it before. Sometimes that works, but most times, unless you've got the right list and the right type of coaching group around you, there's only so much you can do. I think, yeah, those guys, Nash and Jamie, great leaders have been development coaches. They've been in the system for over 10, 12 years now. They've coached their own Waffle or VFL team, being part of success in apprenticeship teams as well. I think the club's in good shape, although Dean and maybe was Josh Carve that said they won't be going for the role. There's certain reasons behind that, but I think it would be a great opportunity for a young coach, but one that the club needs to back him in and give him at least five years to turn things around. Yeah, like you're thinking, I also, what I love what you said before about this weekend's game is that when I said it on Monday, there's people playing for their careers here. They're playing for their livelihoods right now. How did they respond from last week where they were they were shocking? We've all played in games where we walked off the park sales and gone, "She's where we were crap. She's where we were ordinary then. We've got a lift." What do they need to do this week from the final soaring against St Quilentine, bounced down on Saturday night to not dish up something like that again in a doobie? Well, it's pretty hard. I think it's the basics, really. I know, seriously, when any team in the ASL brings effort, then the score line shouldn't be any bigger than probably four goals, really. I think with West Coast, the difference with the asset is too big. When they bring it and they do all that, they've got one touch. They take territory in the game. When they need to, they stick their marks, they kick their goals. When they need to kick them, they're not a bad side. They can beat many teams in the competition. But when they don't, their goals are the place. Last week was an example of that. I think they had a little bit of a go early, but then once the wheels fell off, it was just too too great. I guess the guys who have been in the system for a long time, you don't want to be putting in too many performances like that because the tap on the shoulder comes pretty quickly. The young blokes, you can't put too many of those performances in a row because there's doubt whether you've got what it takes to consistently perform at the top level. So what do you think right now sellers as a player, and we talked about, you know, tongue in cheek, you know, you record in a derby, you're played in 16 derby. Forget about the win-loss record. But again, we're trying to find out the motivation, we're trying to find out the passion of both these football clubs and the supporter bases. Did you always find it for a derby? Did you find something inside you or inside a football club in the lead up to a derby that this was a game that you really got up for despite the fact that both teams won a different plane at the moment? They were good fun back in the day. And don't worry, there's six and ten record. I'm a bit like Scott Sowood too, mate. I claim the one, but the six we won was very good and then the other ones were some mouth to fold. We used to come up. It was the car boys and it was, you know, there's Jeff Farmer up forward just doing his stuff. I reckon Ballantine stuck his nose in there for a few years when Jeff was on his way out. Hadn't came in and we used to go in and, you know, John as a coach, he'd always be very measured and it's just another four points and don't all this outside and don't worry about it. And don't get sucked in the Josh car. Don't do not to get sucked into him. And everyone's like, yep, got it. Josh got it. They got it. Wish got it. And then 15 seconds in, Josh car smacked someone in the gut before the bounce has just happened and then all of a sudden we're all trying to kill him and run around and yeah, that was the main, that was the main focus for the game. So look, that was good fun. It was healthy, healthy respect. The dock is, you know, might, I guess, the key part of my career, they were a very good team, had a lot of experienced players. You had Mick Farland, Pavlich, really strong midfield, sandalances in the rock. So yeah, they were a hard team to beat. They had, I think they got us for about eight or nine times in a row. Like we were on a run and then they had a massive run of wings and it's never good when you lose to the cross town or I've always much as people. It's probably a bit more measured these days. But, you know, you got to go and get a coffee somewhere and you've got to see someone in a shop and then they'll give you their feedback. Don't worry about that. And functions with the opposition as well. Functionalists, Fremen, you've got to walk into that function with them as well on that sort of scrap. Do you give the Eagles any hope at all sellers, any hope at all? I'm trying to find an argument. I'm making them stuff up. You give them a chance? Yes. Scotty, I think, again, if they bring their best or like their capacity to play at 80-90 together collectively, Fremen are going to have to play well to beat them. That's, you know, across the board, I think Fremen have obviously got the form. They've got some good experience and a nice balance going on at the moment. But, you know, we've got to midfielders of Reed and Kelly and, you know, like you say, if they play good footy, then the forwards are going to have more more than their fair share. And, you know, any forward line that has an element of water and running around, there's their key targets. There's a chance. It's a smoky chance. I wouldn't put my house on it. I put a few dollars on it, just in case I do get up. I've tried hard there, thank you. Yeah, gamble responsibly. And I've seen your house and I wouldn't be risking that either. It's a monstrosity and peppermint grove where you appreciate it. Appreciate your time. And, again, thanks for taking time out to chat to us and coming off the tennis quarter after 6-2-6-1, drubbing. Appreciate it. Sell us. Thanks for joining us. Good on you. Breakfast, power by Kubota, take on any job with Kubota's range of tractors, Mowers and utility vehicles. Great to get the perspective of two absolute Derby stars. God out for it, loved it.
