(upbeat music) It's Scotty U, God's the Breakfast. (upbeat music) We're everyone, full-fast. It took your depot studio for the next two hours. We're powered by Sonos, multi-room listening, wireless home theater and a whole lot more. Experience that game-changing sound. It's season with Sonos 14 degrees. So not cold, heading for a top of 22. Bit of rain around for the next few days as I welcome the main man in this combination. Chris Clafoonis is out there. (laughing) Oh, it's gonna introduce yourself. Morning to you. Hello, buddy. How you going? Got a couple of things off my agenda. We rode off Patty Mills yesterday. That's how it's over. Patty stepped up with 27 points against Serbia. Australia won that game overnight. Never in doubt, Patty. I can't believe you rode him off like that. Yeah. And said that he's passed it. He's finished. He's the spiritual leader of the team. He finds a way. Yep, well, he did. In Serbia? In Serbia, is we in the middle for that? It's just a warm up. Has it started? No, it's not started. 11 days, isn't it? Yeah, not far away. Not far away. Let me tell you, I can't wait for it. Rudy, it's gonna be wild. It'll be wild. Yeah. What are you looking forward to the most? Oh, I had a minute sprint. (laughing) In what sport? In which sport? I'm trackin' for you. Oh, yeah. So, can you name the candidate? So he's... Yeah, he's colored Jamaicans, he's got a lot of yangs. (laughing) How fast has manied? I don't think I'm qualified. (laughing) I'm Brett Banner. Who? Who's at Rowan Browning? I don't think I'm even gonna hear it. (dinging) He was the flying mallet. So, what? We got... I don't think you've seen him. I don't think you haven't qualified, did he? Oh, he's at the Games, isn't he? Oh, I'm sure. You've got to be the Games. He might be a traveling, a traveling emergency. (laughing) So, you'll see him after the race, doing laps. (laughing) Just getting his... He's DPS on. He's getting his numbers up before next week's game. It's actually quite a good one, yeah. Thank you. Thank you. No, I will absolutely get involved in the Olympics. Oh, I promise you, I will, it's the Olympic Games. Yeah. I will not get involved in break dancing. How do you go with that? Mate, you happy with that? [LAUGHTER] Good morning, Goss. Good morning, Scotty. I feel a bit better now after that, given that you introduced me as James Broadhurst before the news. I was going to give you a bit of stick for that goss. Yeah. No, that's made up for it. Well played. No worries. So we appreciate you coming on because you do give a bit more life than Jimmy. Jimmy's quirky funny, but God is boring. [LAUGHTER] I have my passes on everyone for afternoon. I'm going to show you. Very much so. Hey, he said the shorts Friday night. I'm Andrew. I was down in Mandarin yesterday. I was actually driving out of there when Ryan Levisky was driving in yesterday, and he caught a great meeting last night. But it is the shorts on Friday night. Explain that to us. Yeah, yeah. Traditionally, I'm choosing there for Ryan Levisky, but yet on Friday night, we've got three heats for the shorts. Now, this is another double-weight bread series, but this one's for the short course of a 400 meters. So, Greg, hands over all distances, they're way bread getting their opportunity with some features. At the moment, Sunset Horn would be the favorite for the series. She's drawing box one in her heat, and she'll be very hard to heat. That's the third beat. There's some good dogs getting around. The likes of water, rip-o, crumble, Manelli. It's got a very good record. A Western boomer as well from the Chris Hiles can. So, there's certainly a start that is field of heat, and we're looking forward to that on Friday night. That's a big Friday. Sandeis doesn't get any smaller either, because you've got the heats of the distance potential. Yeah, that's a bit happening. Yeah, exactly right. Two heats of the distance potential on Saturday night. This is over the 650-2-metre start. She's actually coming to this race, but just gives an opportunity for those lower-grade at-grade gowns to step up in distance and contest the features theory. Then could serve as a nice little step up before the WA Distance Championship, which will be held at Northern in a few weeks. So, it's a good build. Interesting, we see a dog called "Mulfeta Cruz" step up to this distance. This grey gown's been tearing in a part of a 408 meters, but interesting to see how he goes at 600 and 52, and the former track record holder Carl Lasterrod will also be engaged in that series. So, there's a bit of experience in there, but a good opportunity for one of these dogs to step up in trip and get themselves some feature race prize money. Perfect man, but two of the week first, please. Sticky, what have you got first and where? We're going to know them again. Race forward, number eight, Chloe Ant. She wasn't far off crossing last week in a similar race, but I think being a five-dog field this week will be much easier for her. So, hopefully she can cross over this 700-meter trip at Northern, and if she does that, she'll go, "Yeah, 721 meters, bit of a marathon." Hopefully, she can cross, and from there, she'll be hard to be, interestingly enough, out of the five runners, four of the dogs are from the same litter. Oh. And, though, clearly, we'll be looking forward to payday on Friday. I'm going to show you that. That's right, four. Number eight, Chloe Ant. Brilliant stuff. Simling rivalry in there. Brilliant stuff. Great night out of the greyhounds every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. They're throwing Northern as well, and there's not too many days to go by when you can't get a taste of the greyhounds action here in WA. Sticky, always appreciate your time, mate, and pass on our best to Jimmy. Look forward to the intro, next week. Take care, guys. Oh, here's a bit more of the intro. Now, a little bit more of the... [SINGING] Now, they're going to run it. They're going to run it. Dylan Edwards is going to try. That is full time at the MCG. Game two is run and done. Pack your bag, get your ticket. Make sure you bring your toothbrush, because we're headed to Suncorp. Big game tonight. It is Game 3 of the State of Origin series. They're off to Suncorp, and it's the Queensland morons taking on the NSW, please. James Sullivan here to talk rugby league. James, come on in. Gosh, Scotty, how are we, boys? It's Game 3. Have we got any further? Yes! [LAUGHTER] Mate, I love that he saw, because I tell you what, there's two states, especially, that are absolutely consumed in this, and it's going to be an absolute ball-terrisole, because it's going in as equal money. Well, it is, and that's been a big thing, hasn't it? Then when you look at it and game, well, responsibly, as Gosh tells us every week, yeah, New South Wales was $2, 10, when the obviously betting opened for Game 3, and it's been that continual drift, that drift. We all know what happened in Game 1, and obviously we descend off, and, you know, it's the funny thing about it. We did say New South Wales were in one most of those stats from Game 1, but not the game, of course, and then Game 2. Game 2, wow, that first half. Queensland blown off the map, but can New South Wales replicate it? That's a big thing, because we know what the record says up at Suncorp, boys, so, yeah, now bring it on. Hey, did I see that New South Wales were actually calling to return the drive down Caxton Street? Yeah, Caxton Street, for people who don't know, is just where it all begins. All the pregame is there, and it is on for young and old, one sides, while 3/4 of us, we're own, there's a couple of safe pubs for some blue supporters to go to, but when the team bus came, comes through there, it's bordering on riot-type material when the New South Wales bus goes through. Are they calling to do that again? They were. Yeah, Michael Maguire made an inquiry to see can we get the bus going back, because as you say, years ago, the boys had walked out of the Caxton, and they liked wasting their coins, and they used to throw things at the bus. Yeah. You know, throw the beers, and Maguire just, you know, I really think Maguire knew Scotty that the police had said, "Come on, it's 2024." We're not going to be that stupid, but it didn't happen, but we'll just let it all happen inside that stadium tonight, and the big thing is, it's a tough gig. You got a sun call, it's hard to win. See, do you reckon that was basically not a, you know in the result, but do you reckon that's like a message saying, "Hey, we're not scared, we're not scared of anything that you've got to throw at us, and we'll take it all on?" Absolutely. Absolutely, yeah, whatever you want to throw. I think that mantle about sun cook, you know, years ago, James was worried about going there, and if you look at the N.A. relative moment, James enjoyed playing there. And that's what Michael Maguire has done. He's got this bunch of blokes together and said, "Let's just get up there." And the unusual thing, Scotty and Goss, it's all been quite out of coins, and it's eerily quiet. He's bunkered down, Billy Slater. And even over here, we haven't heard much about origin the last three days. From the players, what I'm saying, from the, not the players, but from the respective sides. So, yeah, let's hope the cauldron lights up tonight. Maybe you can give me, tell me, so I'm watching tonight, and you tell me, what does Queensland have to do really well to win, and what does New South Wales have to do to really well to win? Yeah, well the big thing, we'll start on Queensland, and there's one thing through this series, we're on down the short side, Scotty. And that is, that's a great question you asked me, Mike, because that's one thing you can watch and really, really work. Now, Stephen Creighton's been caught twice this year, in game one by Ben Hunt down that short side, and game two by Tabio Alfredel. And the one big thing with his coins and back one, they have some speed. And watch down that left edge. That's where I think they'll take. Tommy Deaton, the hammer and homes, Pongar. That's the big thing. Caitlin Pongar's back in this Queensland side. Where Billy Slater uses it is so important, because you talk about pliers that can play origin, Pongar plays well in every game. New South Wales, the big thing they've done well in the first two games is, or in particular, game two, Dudley Cherry Evans' kicking game has killed New South Wales in the park. But the back three, Edward's low maxing top were outstanding, bringing them back. And in that back row, Mike Creighton, lawyer Martin and Cameron Murray in games two were unbelievable. So, that's the big one for me. Queensland had to stop Cam Murray. He did some things. Here's one for you, Scotty. He's the number 30. You watch his ability to get between defenders, which creates extra bodies in the defense. So, the quick play, the ball bang. They're the things you can watch. Opens up some holes on the outside. I really like it. I really like it. Listen to you, go. Some of us enjoy the game, go on. I enjoy the game. It's not hearing it coming out of your lips. I'm listening to Joe Salasallen. All of a sudden, the outside game is being opened up. Mate, I'm a student of the game. I understand it. Just be better than you. It's okay, mate. You've got your strengths and I've got mine. Do you want to ask a question about the game? No, no interest. You've got no interest. You've got no interest. Scotty will say who wins. Yeah. That's all the listeners want to know. Who wins? Yeah, who they backing in. You're going to put something together for us as well. Solve for a risk to make it just a little bit more entertaining. Well, I always do, don't I, my friend? That's a big thing. I'm going to stick with the same three blokes. We've got a bit of money out of game, too. But I'm going to know New South Wales 1 to 12. You get $3.05 at our friends at Lab Brothers. Oh. So, mate, to try any time, I'm going to go and what we've done in games 1 and 2. First try and any time. So, Stephen Crichton is $15 and $2.80. Jeremiah, then I is $19 and $3.30. Angus Crichton's $21 and $3.70. Now, link them all up. This is where we have the most fun, isn't it? You link them up in the same game multi. You ready? You ready? Yeah, yeah. I'm sitting down. I'm sitting down. I'm going to buy back. Nah. So, that's nice. Link them all up and have some fun. And man of the match I've mentioned in $23, let's go Cam Murray. Yeah, okay. We're keeping an eye on all of those things on our socials ahead of state of origin. So, it starts at what, five past six at our time, I think, kickoff? It does indeed. Yeah. So, are you saying you're going to make New South Wales, so? Yeah, I am. Yep. Yep. Yeah, 1 to 12. Queensland Golden Point. Queensland Golden Point Dali Terrians. Yeah, I am making it more because Gossard Davis is on at the moment, too. Right? He's absolutely on. I'll tell you what. What's that, hey, dollars? I think they draw something like, imagine that, Michael. Goss, you could be a god tomorrow morning. No, I'm a god today. It doesn't matter. (LAUGHTER) I can't imagine. Oh my God, I'll tell you what, there'll be no one going to work in Brisbane tomorrow if that's the case. Ah, good on you, Jimmy. Hey, mate, can't wait. I know you're incredibly excited about it. We do love it. We love state of origin. I only joke it. We're putting events and games for you to decide it doesn't get any better than that. We look forward to watching it tonight, and we always appreciate you talking. Rub my leg! Absolutely, boys. Chat tomorrow and stay safe. (MUSIC PLAYS) Oh, it's a tough one. I mean, I was right there as a player, and I obviously didn't know the outcome of what happened to Duggan, but I thought it was the perfect tackle. And, you know, I was telling him he was a bit rattled by it. I was saying at the time that it was a perfect tackle so it's a very harsh penalty but I mean what do you do? It's hard to as a player these days like personally like I go into tackles now worried about what the outcome is going to be. So you're very hesitant in what you're doing and I feel like that's going to impact everyone across the competition because guys are going to potentially hold back a little bit and I don't know if that's what we want. Oh well I personally don't think you can do much different because you know you're coming forward to put some pressure on and you know he gets the ball and unfortunately he gets concussed in the tackle but as a player we run out there every week knowing well and truly that you can get hurt. Brisbane's Josh Dunkely talking about the three weeks suspension for Charlie Cameron, here's Toby Green on his reaction to his team mate Toby Bedford's three week band. Oh when I first saw it on the day, I remember I was standing next to Nathan Broad and having a discussion about it we saw the replayings, I thought well if Tim's, if Tim's concussed then they might give it a week and then you probably challenge it and Broady was sort of accepting of that and said that probably he goes on, he goes on, I think he'll be alright for that one so that was what we thought initially on the day and then once he got three weeks it just doesn't seem right, doesn't seem right to me. He's just making it a legitimate play on the attack on the on Tim who has the ball is, I just don't think he has any other option. Toby Green's reaction to the Toby Bedford suspension, so they're upheld last night, that also Valax Davies at the Gold Coast, Scotty what is this talking, all things footy thanks to Sonos multi room listening wireless home theatre and more Scotty what's your welcome first and foremost and what's your reaction to those suspensions being handed out at the tribunal last night. It's mind blowing really, it's time for the AFL coaches and players to the end of this year there needs to be a summit where ultimately those groups are coming together to open some communication around how the laws are being set, how they're being implemented by umpires which is almost impossible but most importantly there is now confusion amongst coaches and players on how they actually can, in some way stick to these laws that have been said it is impossible for players. You know they are doing the I think the players have done an amazing job this year on making some adjustments to holding players in tackles and not slinging them to the ground I think they've done an excellent job of doing that but this has now got to a point where it's so frustrating for players and coaches and something needs to be done. And I was listening to Kane Corns on the drive in this morning and he just said to have a prosecutor saying oh well you should release one arm that clearly hasn't played the game and that's the issue we've got people who are arguing on behalf of the AFL for these sanctions to be upheld lawyers lawyers who don't understand the workings of a game in the heat of battle it just doesn't make sense that we can have these conversations. No you just bought on I mean I think when things go wrong between the AFL the game and the players it's where bureaucrats get involved in administration gets involved and they have no feel for what actually happens so if you look over the last 10 or 20 years the amount of communication that's been able to occur between players coaches and umpires becomes has become less and less and less now I understand initially it's making sure that umpires are protected and they should be you know it's such an important role in the game. But where there's lack of communication and lack of consultation there ends up being issues and we've now got issues where the game. It's not umpireable for one of a better word it's certainly not possible for players to deliver on what the AFL edict is so it's it's time to come together with some common sense. Sitting underneath all of this guys as we know is the concerns and the litigation concerns around concussion which needs to still be paramount. But ultimately we've got a game now that can't be played by the players they cannot do a better job than what they're doing right now. Well I scoffed at this I reckon it was brought up last year and again this year we had a text about it the other day about the AFL will eventually take out the hanger because if you need goes up into the back of someone's head and you knock them out it's a problem now I'm an alarmist. But if your concerns about our game Scotty. Look I think the game is in a really it's been an interesting stage for a while and there's two mitigating factors that are changing the shape of that game. One is tactically what's been allowed to happen over 10 to 20 years now with so many players in one portion of the ground. It's changed what the game looks like it's changed the types of players that we've got playing and it's actually aesthetically the game. I always go back to you know Peter material 92 grand final bouncing down the wind kicking you know three or four goals. That doesn't occur anymore because the tactically the game has changed so that's one side of it. And then the other thing that is now changing the whole fabric of the game is we are jumping at shadows around the litigation concerns around concussion and injury to players on all four players being 100% safe or as safe as they can be in a contact sport. But there is always going to be an inherent risk of playing a contact sport but we are I feel like we're now jumping at shadows and really changing too much of the game is changing. If I was a player now or if you're a player now you would be putting your hands in the air not knowing what to do. Do I tackle I can't bump the bumps you know that's gone I can't tackle now I can't tackle someone to the ground. So the game is just changing before our eyes and I think I think the frustration as a supporter and someone who's been around the game for 40 or 50 years is these these decisions are made on the run and they're very reactive. Isn't it time that we sat down and planned out like any good business would plan what do we want the game to look like and how do we as custodians of the game protected for the next 10, 20, 30 years. It needs to be much longer term decision making and it's very reactionary knee jerk reaction to whatever happens on one weekend it's short term thinking and it's not good enough. You think there'll ever be a time it'll ever get to a stage where we go a little old school and you know there were times where you say you enter at your own risk. Do you think there'll be a time where players are asked and they'll have a form to sign and say we will do everything possible to keep you safe and to make sure that our best medical practices are in place at all occasions but you do play this game at your own risk. What do you think they'll have to be a detrimental effect on players coming through and parents allowing players to play footy. That's a really big question but isn't there a risk in any context sport. There is always a risk so whether that now needs to be you know we're going to get to the point where we're signing waivers may be. But you know unless because the option I mean I don't know how you take the the combative contact nature out of Australian football and still remains Australian football. So I'm all for duty of care right the players are amazing and it takes a lot of courage to get out on a you know on a field where you've got you know 40 bodies running around in tight confined spaces. However there's always going to be contact you're never going to mitigate completely against some of those challenges that are going to occur. So I can see it Scotty I can see a time when in a players contract you've actually got to accept you know it's signing a waiver. You know ultimately before I have to go and compete knowing that there is risk in this type of game. Scotty Waters is our guest we're talking all things footy on this Wednesday with something we haven't spoken about the Scotty Cummings and yourself Scotty. If something was raised on the national broadcast yesterday here in Perth that the WA football commission has asked coaches of junior teams which are being unpied by 13 14 and 15 year olds not to shake hands post game. Because coaches are using that as a forum to shake a young man's hand and make detrimental and abusive remarks to them and we're losing umpires in the game because they're using that as a way of getting close to an umpire. So you won't have to show the hand and say you are useless to your immediate and now the football commission has got to a stage where it's reached boiling point where umpires are now going. We don't want to hear it and we actually fear actually someone coming up to us at the end of the game. Thoughts on that and is it a sad indictment on the game that we're it might not just be a WA but. Yeah the future umpires of our game right there right now what do you make of that Scotty. Well I was I see it every weekend I've had my my three boys 19 17 15 so I've spent a lot of time with them in recent years as they go through their junior football ranks and I. Again on the weekend on Sunday I'm watching a game of under 15 and I heard one opposition. Support a yell out I'll give you 20 bucks if you're knocking out. Right now that sort of thing unfortunately occurs if it's not every week it's every second week something like that comes up in a game so. What I what I suggested this before there are so many players you know you look at AFL players you go through the system. They understand the importance of teamwork comradery building community and they're lost to the game right. Just to just imagine if the and if the AFL could actually shape community football much more than what they currently do they give it lip service they don't support it anywhere near strongly enough as they should. They're always focused on just the elite level product but by putting a bit more focus on the community football they could change the narrative and change the conversations that occur particularly around parents coaches and umpires. So my suggestion has always been imagine if there was a well a Scotty Cummins right so you know going to you're employed by the AFL. And every junior footy ground has an AFL an X AFL player that is there to bring coaches together bring the parents together the start of every day and actually talks to them about. Guys we're here today for the kids you know this is not about whether they win or lose it 13 or 14 or 15 years of age this is about creating a great environment where they're safe supported and can actually start to live their dreams not yours as a parent. There's as a young kid. Now if we had some people over the york of a Scotty Cummings or a Peter material or whoever X AFL players coaches and players and parents would listen. Right but we don't we've got uneducated coaches sitting in some of those roles and in many ways we've got some uneducated parents that sit around the kids just want to play and have a great time. We could do a much better job of changing what community football should be and sadly. Now if I look at the last 8 to 10 years I've lost a lot of junior free games. I think it's getting worse and I think it is an issue. And it's one that could be addressed if the AFL. I was going to say got their head out of there. But I was. They need to focus a little bit more on how they can support local level football. They've got so much money goes. They don't spend it in the right places. Good point. Scotty what is it? We're talking footy. So this time last week the Eagles made a change in regards to their coach Adam Simpson. It was a bit clunky the day but after that it was very well handled. He was very very much loved departing the scene. It gave plenty back. He's still very much a West Coast man. He's very proud of his time. His family loved his time there but it was time to move on. Thoughts on the process now for West Coast if I know you're on the East Coast. And obviously that's where most of the chances are going to come from. But you also had a connection with Jared Scofield who is in the hot seat for the next six weeks at least after coaching on the weekend. What are your thoughts about the possible replacement? Well firstly I think it was always a difficult circumstance. But I thought they handled it pretty well. I thought the send off on the ground was really well handled. I'm glad he didn't coach on the day. I think he made the right call around that. So you know outside of I guess that initial press conference where it's never going to be perfect. I thought it was all done pretty well. It's interesting now isn't I know I think there's calls even even for new gossip. Then Cox should come out and declare his hand. And I completely understand that. I don't think that's going to happen until he or Sydney have really lined up what they're doing internally. And if I was Sydney and if I was also Dean Cox it wouldn't be a top list of my priorities. So I don't think we're going to hear a lot unless they come out and he just hoses down and shuts down the West Coast Eagles opportunity. He's a standout right if you look at the experience and that he had that experience and he's been so bored I think adds to what he can then bring back to Western Australia. You mentioned Jared I think Jared I was impressed last week when he came in and he's made some he's got to make some calls I think so some of the decisions that he made around play he's better off making some some tough decisions and you know see seeing what happens. See where the green shoots may appear in the next five or six weeks. There's some really strong Eastern states contenders for the role. G&C or a teaser who's someone who's done a lot of work behind the scenes. And I know he wouldn't be a big name in Western Australia but I like him. So it'll be interesting but everything everything sits behind Ben Cox at the moment. I think we all know that if you were then Cox he could sit he could use this to actually increase the amount of money that he's getting paid at Sydney where he's highly valued. He could sit there for another four or five years under no pressure being a tool I see under no pressure and maybe he sits back and waits another two or three years to see where the Eagles list is going because there's still a lot of work to be done on that Eagles list is two or three years so you've got to be very careful I think when you enter a list as a coach. So it's going to be a fascinating one to watch what his decision is. Oh change the topic you're a part of interstate teams from the beginning right so West Coast and Fremantle why can't Gold Coast travel and how and it didn't take West Coast that long and it didn't take Fremantle that long to learn how to do it and to start winning on the road. What's going on with a team that you're probably geographically closest to in the Gold Coast and they get on a plane they turn into great amos. Well I think often it's around the expectations that are being set internally and one thing that we know within who's obviously been a successful coach he's now turning up the heat on what the expectations are so often players they're in a different environment it's not an AFL environment so they start winning those games at home Scotty and that's almost enough to sort of keep pressure away because their expectations were so low but the expectations are rising that list has got some serious talent on it now it's got a premiership coach sitting there so I do feel like the pressure rightfully so is now starting to come back on to the player group to win away because they've got the talent so I think for Gold Coast they haven't had a great list for a period of time I think that's set very low expectations but that's changing you know over this if you look over this 12 month period just expectations are certainly rising now because the talent what's coming through their academies is really strong from a talent point of view so it is the next challenge for them to win away. They did good enough but it's changing the mindset of just what's acceptable winning at home and losing away is now no longer good enough for that group. Agree, secure to host West Coast at Marvel on Saturday I just think West Coast win this game I just think they've got to complain 75% of what they played against Brisbane and we know what's secure we're going to do sharp make it a shootout for West Coast don't worry about if you want to get behind the ball and make it an eight goals to seven game take the game on and we mentioned it to Tim Kelly yesterday lose 25 goals to 22 don't matter. No drama. No drama just take the game on win seven or six. What's your thoughts about wasting killer replying at the moment Scotty and what they're doing to footy because they're very very unwatchable. And look probably had been for a long period of time but keep 12 goals and you win it's that simple so you know against St Kilda they will they will try and slow you down they'll sit numbers behind the ball they'll put numbers around the stoppage you know it's very predictable what Ross Lyon has been doing and continues to do. It's an outdated way to win games of football so you know if I'm Jared Scofield I am being very aggressive around our offence and literally setting a team to target you know you keep you keep 10 to 12 goals you'll almost have enough to win and that's not that's not unachievable with it with the talent that they've got and some of their players are starting to I think sudden to show some really good signs Liam Ryan I think offensively has been it's been great to see him sort of start to get back and take a little bit more leadership you know within games as well so pretty simple open the map kick 12 goals and you'll beat them because they don't they're not going to score any more than that they never focus on it they never have. Appreciate it always good to chat with you Scotty you can from carbon up it just says it's not on the AFL it's on the adults do we need to have adults teaching adults how to behave wow let's rely on others to guide us on how to behave we must all be bloody dumb the idiots get so much air time with the media it just encourages them it's a way of the world give idiots air time so that's it normal to be an idiot can from carbon up. That's social media nutshell exactly right good on you appreciate it thanks Scotty always good to chat. Always good Scotty what is talking about yeah tell you me he's very intelligent let's get a break away and come back the highlight is in prime time and I talk of on this day is next before the 730 news Mitch clearly with all the news from the AFL after 730 and doffsy and after 8 o'clock. I need actually I need on this day today because I've still got stars Bengal banner belting through me ahead I need a change up. I will lie on this day I see clearly birthdays events and some of the great moments in history it's on this day. Thanks to Baron today because a little things are everything and thanks to the gentleman Baron today who did ask for it to be moved into prime time and we've just followed so because they're great supporters of the network it's the 17th day of July it's my daughter's birthday happy birthday and on this day Donald Sutherland was born he died in June but he was 89 years of age. I'm drinking wine and eating cheese and catching some rays you know. What's happening? Well the tank's broken and they're trying to fix it. Now why the hell are they helping them? Oh man I only ride them I don't want to make some work. It was in Kelly's Heroes. There you go Spencer Davis was born on this day in 1939. It's interesting though. So it says on the sheet Spencer Davis he was the guitarist for the Spencer Davis group. It's just his band no matter what he does it's the band's named after him. We're going to talk a little bit about the CEO's conference that's going on in Perth at the moment. Up there at Crown I'm sure they're enjoying themselves and living very frugally. You're not saying that Turak Lodge this year? How about at Crown and Freo is paying for all of it? I'm going to get them all on saw. So yeah there's a bit going on isn't there? So it looks like ball tracking is a good chance to be introduced to the AFLW season. And if that goes well then that would translate to the 2025 AFL season. A few other significant things as far as the local clubs are concerned is that it looks like they will get access to NGA players from pick one as opposed to from pick 40. And the reason being and they want that done immediately because the reason being that they are worried about the dilution of indigenous talent in the AFL and they want to put a stop to that. Is that fact that it's just fair? Yeah, that would help. Land collard. It's collard. We've got Malachi Champion coming through from Sueby's Stroke West Coast. So yeah it sort of makes it central. Also the five years for rookies? Yeah so this is an interesting one. So the view they've taken is that because many rookies are a bit of a throw at the stumps, you know like look at a kid with great traits and see if he can bring him through and it takes time particularly with the taller ones and they said let the clubs keep them for five years and give them incentive to stay with them and try and develop the talent and get them all the way through. Which makes sense. Absolutely. So the CEO's conference is in Perth. What else you got? Well we'll be talking to John Hammond about a few legal matters. Big council meeting at East Fremantle last night and it's an ongoing cluster, something or rather. It looks like it's bound for mediation I would say between the council and the club with the state government acting as mediator. At this stage unless there's something that bobbed up and the club left the meeting not entirely clear as to what the council's final position was but they thought it was probably bound for mediation with the government mediating. Is this based on the fact that there is no fence around it and they cannot have gate taking so they put a fence around the place? Is everything solved? It's a range of things. It's the licence. It's how the money gets shared and basically what it comes down to is there a viable economic model for the East Fremantle Football Club to play football at East Fremantle Oval and right now they don't think there is under the current where the discussion sits currently so they need a shift otherwise they've got to look at other options. Let's bring into the equation the major naming partner of the ground who pays good money new choice homes, pays damn good money to be the naming rights partner, getting no bang for their buck at all. It's a lot of money to go out of a waffle system. You cannot survive without it. What's the point of having a name for an oval that doesn't have, it's not an oval? It's true sense. So a bit to play out there and we'll keep an eye on that once a year so that continues to work a long time. It's like any 24 hours on, any wiser, any thoughts on West Coast and their position at the moment and their coaching position? Look, I tell what I would say and this is about Dean Cox. We're hearing all the speculation. He's going to stay in Sydney. He's going to do this. I mean, I'll believe that when I hear that out of Dean Cox's mouth but if Dean Cox doesn't want to come and coach West Coast, the conclusion I would draw is that Dean Cox doesn't want to be a senior coach badly enough. It takes a lot to be a senior coach. I'm just assuming that Dean Cox privately is just biting his time, waiting this out and eventually will declare his hand and that he will want to coach West Coast. I mean, there are a lot worse clubs to coach than West Coast regardless of the state of their list. So I'm expecting him to be a candidate. Yeah. As Scotty Waters also said, if it's not this time, it might be in five years' time. He might wait for the West Coast Eagles list to settle and if he's still around and John Longwise, three more years in Sydney and he's there, three more years in Sydney and mad that John may pop up. In five years' time, there'll be four more gun-assisting coaches who all have radical ideas as to where the game's going to go. One of them will be the next Alistair Clarkson or the next Damian Hardwick or the next Mick Moltaus before him or Ron Barasi or Norm Smith before them. When there's a job available to you as a senior coach, if you think you're ready to coach you go and coach because even if the list here needs work, you're very well resourced. You're a champion of the club. You're going to get probably a year's extra grace because of that. I would have thought there's a lot worse places for Dean Cox to be than John. Yeah. Great. I'm like a poo poo developer saying there has to be some sort of vibe coming through to all parties from Cox to Sydney and West Coast. I still believe that. I said there has to be some movement and if he's not in the mix, say he's not in the mix. If he doesn't want to come, he doesn't want to come. I just think everyone would be a lot happier to get some sort of direction. The fact that that's not being said probably means he's in the mix. Yeah, that's what I suggest. If he was not in the mix, then he probably would say it. Duffs after eight o'clock. One of the best in the business is Mitch Cleary from the Seven Network. He's the chief footy reporter. Do you remember when Tom Brown used to be on television? Hey, do you forget quick? I know. Just remember, I just know that this place is the best in the business. No, no, he's a gun. Absolute gun. We made him. He started here. I reckon he'd know this. I reckon he'd know this. We were just talking Baywatch just before. The big heavy issues that probably mentions all over. But Kimbo's put it in. She got it. The best one in Baywatch was Eric Guraleniac. But her best role was jumping out of the birthday cake in front of Stevenson Galen under siege. I'm not familiar with that one. Kimbo? When you spread that text, you win. But I'll look it up again today. Mitch Cleary, are you a movie buff? Mitch, good morning. Good morning, guys. Not really. I saw Twisters over the weekend. I thought that was pretty cool. But Baywatch was a bit before my time, actually. I don't remember watching all too much of that. Do yourself a favour, mate. Google cinematography was amazing. Hey, any chance we're going to get a day today from the footy clubs? For those who went to the Tribunal last night and failed, appealing? Any chance? I think there's a good chance. I know that Brisbane and the Giants this morning are considering that. They've got them for 11 o'clock in Melbourne time. So just over an hour to the server, whether they do that, we saw last week, the eyes are hitting your peel. But I think these clubs are giving it a good consideration this morning. There's a bit of concern across the league as to what players can and can't do these days. It's never been more grey. And I think these clubs are giving it a good red hot crack with their lawyers this morning before deciding whether they want to put $10,000 on the table and take it further. No, I'm manifestly excessive penalties, I believe. Refresh evidence. They've got to have fresh evidence. That's what it's going to ask. So that's the thing. What can they bring to the table, Mitch, which they haven't used already. And do you think there's some clubs withhold a little bit of evidence or an argument, so in case they do have to appeal it? I'm not the greatest legal buff, but having sat in a few appeal board hearings before, typically what happens is that they have to just argue the legality around it and the failure of law. So they can't really bring too much fresh evidence to the table. It's more, they have to argue that the tribunal acting on Tuesday night being last night made an error of law or there was a manifestly excessive outcome, as you alluded to, Scotty. So there's a couple of different ways they can go down. But in terms of fresh evidence, they can't really bring too much more to the table. So everything they used last night, they've basically got to regurgitate and basically claim that there's been an error of law as opposed to anything fresh that they've sort of waded through vision-wise. Is there a common sense law? Yeah. Yeah. So are they going more? Yeah. And it's an interesting one. I've read it somewhere online. Maybe you've been, you guys, discussing it earlier this morning, whether, you know, I think a lot of people in footy would look at that and think three weeks is excessive. Could you say that, yes, it was a football accident, yes, the players can cast and that's one or two. Like right now, under the matrix, in a way, the AFL dropped these rules. It's basically three or nothing. Like there's no middle ground. So I wonder whether that's in time we could see something coming in that world where, you know, there is room, a bit of wiggle room, you know, there's no exact movement on that yet. But it's just one of those ones that can see that because the clubs are scratching their heads as to how these have come out and spat out the way they have. Mr Cleary Channel 740 Reporter is online. Dean Cox comes to West Coast. So the pieces of the puzzle go like this. Pike, Cox, Chad Warner. To be honest, and I've been thinking about this a lot, guys. If you have Chad Warner and you're weighing up the eagles or the doctors in the next 12 months, you'd have to put that into consideration when you're drawing up your whiteboard. And I heard Jeremy Cameron talking about this recently about the pros and cons that he dropped when he decided to leave the Giants. You'd have to have that in the pros column given the connection he's had with both and both coaching for some time at the Swans, you know, clearly the offers will be there from both clubs and there needs to be some sort of way to get an advantage over the others. So, yeah, if it's 50/50, maybe that could pivot 51/49 Eagles way if they are out a little with Dean Cox. Now, the Swans are confident that Cox stays. But I guess the question is, how long can you stay without any formal succession plan written in place? Who's to say that John Longline doesn't want to coach you on the four or five years? And, you know, the way footy works, Dean Cox could be out of favor. Like, you know, it's a brilliant coach from all reports. But these come and go. Like, there's only so many senior coaching roles. And, yeah, I know how long you can weigh around and just expect people for your way if there's no formality to it. Hey, on the back of Adam Simpson, and we've all talked about, you know, Adam Simpson will be bringing anything to football. Has it been, have you at the call face of journalism over there, maybe footy journalism, been sounding out whether there is a future for Adam Simpson at another club next year? I think it's a little early for clubs to be making those hard approaches. But I was doing the numbers last week. I reckon there's 12 of the other 17 clubs that have a connection to Adam Simpson. Whether that be through their CEO, their footy boss, their current AFL coach or assistant coaches. The one that I continue to look at is the North Melbourne. And he spoke on talking pretty last week about his love for North Melbourne. Could Clark go bringing in for a bit of experience? And I know he's incredibly close to Luke Beveridge. So they're just two that I'm keeping an eye on. But in terms of hard and fast approaches to, you know, nothing of note that I've come across yet. He's very close with Peter Bell. And I know he coached you just along your previously as well. So, you know, he wouldn't rule that out, would you? I would. I wouldn't. Just ask Gossmitch. Just ask Gossmitch. No, he won't be at free. He won't be at free. But will Brody might not be at free? Oh, either. What's your view on his? We're staggered by this, aren't we? We are staggered. We understand now he's not getting a gun, but the midfield is strong. The midfield is strong. Which is, again, then you can extend that to Warner who goes when Warner, if Warner comes to free manner. Is that the piece that they need? I'm not sure. So there's a bit more of that. But is there anything on Will Brody? And Gossmitch was alluding to? The hard thing right now is these big-bodied mids that aren't as explosive as a Chad Warner, they're ones that sort of are more a clearance focus. They've sort of just, they're not just even there. After them like it was four or five years ago, they sort of sit in this, you know, like George Stewart, for example, at Carlton, similar player, like he's more of a center-bounce player. He can't play a lot of other roles on the ground. They just fall out of favor because clubs are so desperate for this explosive first midfielder, like a Chad Warner in their side, they think they can only get away with one or two maxes of these, you know, inside bulls. So I haven't heard of any strong market for Will Brody. I'm sure he's managing doing the work to try and find somewhere. I'm going to shock me if you've been in your home, but I haven't heard of any yet. Now, Mitch, you are the best in the business. You are across everything and you do it the right way as well, which is why everyone loves you. You're not a jump out of bin sort of bloke. Is there a story or a play? I'm not asking you what it is, but is there a club or a play or something like that that you're building a story on right now that you've heard something about? I don't want details. I asked Goss the other day, is there, you know, what's going to be the news in three weeks time because he's just on fire at the moment? Have you got something brewing that might bounce in the next few days? Maybe not next few days, but next few weeks. There's always, at this time of the year, the players we haven't spoken about in trade sense, Scotty. So the players that contracted, you know, we only found out about locking Neil late in the past, the year he went from Freo to Brisbane. You know, Jason on French has bobbed up late. I reckon there's one or two players that are contracted, just doing some work on the things that you're doing in your home. Yes, Goss. That was a year. He's got something. He's always got something when he's walking the dog, he's not just walking the dog, he's thinking he's the concert turning. Hey Mitch, always appreciate your time. We thank you.
