Cooper Connolly. A little setback this morning I had. David Schwartz and Tim Kelly will all join us alongside the power rankings. Not alongside after the round of the power rankings, as they take top billing. Good morning. Morning buddy, how are you going? Yeah. I feel fresh. This morning I had a nice bricky. What was your bricky? I had a sausage muffin with bacon and the hash brown and then your hash brown because you left it there too long. I don't do hash browns. What is wrong with them? I like them but I just didn't feel like it. Because I'm not a big breakfast four o'clock in here. I might need them but when you put that in front of me it's gone. Thanks to Maccass. Yes, I had the... Good bricky. Thanks. Yeah. I love them. You take your teeth out with them? The maple syrup. See, I can drink it. The whip butter? The whip butter? I can drink it. The wooden fork? Yeah. Bit of a texture problem there with the wooden fork but it's the right thing to do for the moment. Who are they going to give us? You're right. I can't give it some plastic money, right? I think the answer is you're not supposed to eat that as well, Scotty. It's there. It's there. It's there. It's gone. It's a really flat white, extra hot, extra shot and you had a... I've got a shot. Yeah. Nice work. So thanks to Maccass. Good on you Maccass. You've been on board for a long time and we love you. We love their golden arches. You know what? On the back of last week, where let's go to the team approach this show but in particular you just dominated breaking news, dominated. It was huge across the country. I think it's brilliant that we backed it up with a superb analysis and prediction of what Charlie Cameron was going to get at the tribunal, I think. I think we just followed it up a treat, you and I. Both said that, "Hmm, no, I don't think you're doing this. I don't think you get to think." What happened there? Are you perplexed? Yeah, I'm surprised. It's the outcome. The outcome is the issue and I think there are circumstances where the outcome should not be the issue. The fact is he got concussion. The fact is that Liam Duggan has now proven he's susceptible because I don't think it was the world's heaviest knock to the ground, head to ground that we've seen. I also know that the ground is exceptionally hard. So I think three weeks is way too much. In fact, I believe in my opinion that the umpire took too long to blow the whistle and that could have ceased as a standing tackle. Because it was really evident on the weekend, more than any other weekend, I think, that the whistle was getting blown quick, wasn't it? They were on to it. Across other games. Across other games. They were on to it. They were on to it quick and the way they went. This is what we said yesterday, as you talk about, with Fish Whiting, when we went around the country. This was with Fish when we went around the country with AFL.com.au when we head up to Queensland. I don't think there was any twisting or driving in the tackle. It looks unlucky for me and I'm coming across as a homer there. No, I think you're right. I think you're right. We think it's just part and parcel of the game. Just sometimes your head hits the ground. They'll look at that the second bit of halfway through the tackle where he gets control of it. I think they'll look at that. But I agree. Football incident. Nailed it. Absolutely gnarred. We are on here. We missed it by a mile. If you've got a week, I would have gone, I can sort of see where they've come to that conclusion. But three? Three? He got the same as what Davies got for his hit on Jones in the port, in the Gold Coast port. Which is ridiculous. Which is a guy who's head over the footy and charges in and hits him with his hit, which has got damage to the head, damage to the neck. Spine. It's much, much worse. Jonathan Brown last night on AFL 360 on the couch was brutal towards the suspension of Toby Bedford and basically the tackling. Have a listen to this. You came off the long run. Jonathan Brown. No, I'm Adam Kingsley. Toby Bedford is a critically important player for him. He's become doing a fantastic tenure. I'm telling mate, don't pursue and don't tackle him. That's situation. I'd rather have you playing for us instead of missing for the next three week. Concussion Crusaders. Be careful. Be careful what you wish for. Be careful what you wish for. And if you start to liken them to the community sport standards or a community sport, getting rid of king hits, getting rid of abusing umpire, respectful of those, these are not situations that are going to be good for community sport. If that was paid down a court with me, our man lives, there'd be rights. I'd feel for the umpires. I'm trying to leave the game if they started paying. That is free kicks or pies we're getting suspended. So we are hitting down the wrong path. We've done an amazing job. Don't get me wrong. And I want players to be safe, but I want our game to still to be our great game. And if we continue on this path, I'm concerned. So that's Jonathan Brown. I'll keep going through these. Chris Scott Jelong coached his regards to stance on tackling and the Bedford suspension as well. My view is pretty similar on both of them. I think the momentum was going one way and it was very difficult for the tackle to make any other decision. The path that I push back on that I hear quite a bit, particularly from the tribunal, is that in that situation, they want the player to release an arm in motion. That's hard to do without putting yourself at risk. I'm not sure we need to get to the stage where the duty of care extends to you putting yourself in harm's way. That's even if you can make that assessment, you know, split second, even less. So that's Chris Scott. So all the coaches and all the experts are having an opinion. It's been pretty strong on Melbourne radio this morning. Justin Longwheel, free Mantle coach. Clearly they're stepping down on two hands tied up in the tackle and the player not being able to protect himself when they go to ground and I think we reached a pretty consistent point on that, the middle of last year. I think at the start of this year, there's probably been some inconsistencies with that but it seems to have found its water level again and it's something that I'm all for, really protecting the head and the players are just going to have to deal with the outcome of the tackle, I guess. No one is not for protecting the head. We understand... Oh for it. But now I think it's gone way too far in the AFL is basically saying that's now the number one thing in football. The head because of financial compensation. We've been loyed into game, into... Brad Shepard's situation right now, I'm not saying Shepard's any different to a lot of other players, we're going to come forward and try and seek some compensation for concussion and being forced, but going back on to play the game. Liam Duggan's now had two bouts of concussion, we've seen already retirees, Carmichael has retired already out of Collingwood. So this is an issue, 131255 0487736736, if you'd like to text us as well. But I want to take us back to March 2024, let's back the pedal, let's go back the truck up. So Toby Bedford's been given three for his tackle on Tim Taranto. Yes. Do we take responsibility? Do you? You're interested to know whether you've had a conversation with him or your forward line coach. Now you've based your game on pressure, acts, you've based your game on tackle count, but you've been a bit flat on the old tackle count so far. On that. On that. No tackles. No tackles last week, three and round one, you are below your career average, you need to lift young men because that is genuinely your one would, that's where you need to step up. Yeah, no, it's fair enough, I'm now, but you actually actually have spoken to them and they said that you did the same thing because it's not a hardy way from the start. I love it. Toby. I love it. And you know what? The following week, I think you know, five or six tackles, seven tackles, he went pretty strong and he responded. Do we take some responsibility? Well, listen, normally, you know, when the things were good like all the youth praking, it was our little show that did it. It was we, we, we, that was all you. That was all you. You take responsibility for that, but I do take responsibility for what's been making news in Melbourne at the moment, like today's show with Tim, with a cane and Sam in for Gary and Tim, who were in Holle's and yet again. What were they talking about? They were talking about the small crowds, yeah, yeah, at the MCG. No, I think the small crowds debate was pretty much the final straw for you on X. That's when you said that's it. No. No, I had a Gary Torry for not sure. Yeah. They came for you and said, it's winter, stupid, because that's the first time we've played in winter. Yeah. And they took them by surprise and they like it and they came for you from everywhere. So 19,000 went to a Richmond game at the MCG after 90,000 went and saw the Dusty 300, and I get all that, you know, that was an occasion. Brilliant. I get all that, brilliant. And I'm not expecting 90,000 every week, but 19. And don't know about who they played GWS because that's the national, national competition. You've still got 100,000 members. 19 is North Melbourne versus Gold Coast at Marvel on a long weekend. Or in Tassie. Yeah, correct. So I said three weeks ago, there was concern about the lack of crowds. Now all of a sudden, guess what's in Melbourne? It is all over the newspapers, all over the airwaves, all over TV about the dwindling attendances. And that's all I said. Okay. There. How are you going? Are you going to stay strong? No. You're going to stay strong. You're going to stay off it. You were airborne. This was your topic of three weeks ago. Hey. But you're not going to be away. No, no piling in. Stay strong. Stay strong. And I am. That's true. I am Gostridamus. I can predict these things a long way ahead of anybody else. And yes, let's you know that, hey, all of a sudden, the great unwashed, the battlers and nuffies, the keyboard warriors who attacked me and forced me into retirement on X have basically now come out and gone the other way and got, oh yeah, the crowds are small eye. Yeah. No one's talking about this. The crowds are small. Why don't you block me? I'm now siding with me. All right. Now I'm going to set you a task before I'm this day. Yes. You're going to tell me what is going to be in the news in four weeks, in three weeks time. Okay. Three weeks time, you're going to tell me what a hot issue is that we will talk about first and then everyone else will jump on about a week and a half later. Chris is your note for it. He wants to talk about tackles and the head. G'day, Chris. Morning, guys. There you go. You're going strong, Chris. How are you, mate? What's your thoughts? Yeah. You're good. Hey, listen. That Charlie Cameron tackle, mate, I didn't see anything in it when it first happened. It wasn't swinging. It wasn't dangerous. The only thing I can see what they've pinned him on is the force he used, because Charlie used his head as well. Now halfway down the tackle, he buried his head into Duggan's chin and kept driving down with his shoulder and his head, which didn't really allow Duggan to hold his head off the ground. If Charlie Cameron had a tucked his head to the side of Duggan's, then that would have given him the opportunity to at least put his head forward and keep it off the ground. I'm not saying he would have been able to do that, but that's the only thing I can see that they friggin' got him on. So Chris, do you, Chris, before Chris walks up while we're on the tackle and he's just starting with, and Scotty saw all the similar opinion to you, the second motion where he sort of really ramps it up, I think that comes about also with Duggan trying to push through the tackle and it was too blokesy in a game of footy. Don't you think he's trying to fight the tackles that Charlie has to continue the fight? Correct. And also, again, which is what I said, and I think Scotty and I both agree on this, the umpire didn't blow the whistle soon enough. The whistle should have been blown prior to that second motion, because he wasn't going anywhere, the ball was between both of them, his arms were pinned, he wasn't going to dispose of it, and there was insufficient time to get rid of the footy. For me, I think it's umpire error. Well, that's exactly what I was going to say before, and Scotty mentioned that as a game, it was almost like football, as soon as they got touched and blew. But that one did take a long run by the whistle and I think that also had a lot to do with it. Good only Chris, very good, nice call by you. You're in the running for no prize because we don't have one, but 13, 12, 55, don't get that right. Yeah, the prize was Mackers Brecky this morning, but it's gone. It's a bad beef jerky stuff, you do the ads for the jerky code, don't you? Yeah. Any chance? Do you think so? You can get a box of that stuff? I think so. Come on, produce a fire in the jerky. I tell you. You're good at it, you might as well find it. Come on. I'll tell you who I'm happy doing ads for. Wilson's brewing company out there to Rivey. I look after them. I am Morning Gosh for Darmus, when will Freeow win the flag? Tom? Well, that won't be my newsbreaker. OK. That's going to happen within the next three weeks. They're going to win a flag in three weeks? No, they're not going to win the flag in three weeks. No, the news that you're going to break, that you're going to... And you'll need to have it by what time? Oh, before, on this day. I've got a bit of asker there and then. What, seven minutes? Yeah, well you'll have it, won't you? Or will you have it before the end of the game? You need more time? No, no, I'll go with it. You've got something percolating right now, I can see. Exciting. Yeah, yeah. I see something in your little brain tickle over there. Little brain. Sorry about that. I see something in your huge noggin. No, we need it. Hey, there's some faith, no mirrors in your ass. Pot, kiddo. Alrighty. Plenty of text coming in. Hey, guys. Kevin might appeal and get off with a good character. Yes. Might make a valid point. If he needs to get suspended, it means everyone will get suspended. Yeah, wait, if the garden goes gone. Good call. Yeah, alrighty. Cool. We're going to... It's 18 past six, 7.5 heading for... Which he wasn't a beautiful day yesterday. Cracker. Stunning down. Are we out of 22 again today? Yeah. Special. 22 today. 22 tomorrow, we're going to get some showers and then it's going to do it. It's all right. It's over the right. Matt, from Beethoven's, I think the players just need to show greater duty of care. The danger of king hit is the back of the head hitting the ground. The AFL cannot allow tackles where players are pinning both arms and driving the back of the head play into the ground mat in Beethoven's. But he wasn't driving the head. He fell to ground. He fell to footballers, you know, when you get tackled, 98% of tackling players are finished on the ground. Yeah. So, for real stat? We just... We've grown up pinning the arms. Absolutely. So, they can't dispose of it. And we've grown up with chicken wing tackle is bad and... And now they're allowing the chicken wing tackle. And so, you've got to release an arm, so you've got to pin one even harder. Exactly right. The chicken wing should be outlawed. Yeah. That, for me, is... They have got themselves in such a pickle now the AFL with the wrong changes and the interpretations. Don't blame the umpires. I do say the umpire on this occasion, we could have avoided the Charlie Cameron if the whistle had been blown prior. Split second, yeah. Standing up, standing up. Yeah. And then, all of a sudden, the pressure goes off. There's no resistance. The reason why Charlie Cameron continued with his push through tackle is because there was resistance from Lee and Duggan. Lee and Duggan's only doing what a natural footballer would do. You're trying to break your tackle. Correct. Exactly right. 1325 55 0 4 8 7 7 3 6 7 3 6, it is the hot topic. The three weeks for Bedford, or can you get that off of Toronto, three weeks for Charlie Cameron. But how often does someone who gets three weeks get off? Does it just get reduced? I mean, if they reduce Charlie Cameron's to one. Why though? Based on what? Well, because... It wasn't careless. No, I know, I know, I know. But based on precedent set, and I know there are some dangerous ones, and I know there are some ones that we sit there and go, "How did they get off?" It's like his first one. That's just not a dangerous tackle, Charlie Cameron. Just not. The outcome was bad, isn't it? And that should not be an element to it. And whether... I know. But if I... And I don't agree with that. I don't agree with... Yeah. Oh, you could have hurt someone really bad. Correct. I hate that. Yeah, me too. But at the end of the day, it's what we've got to get used to. Sure. Because that's the way they're going with it. So if he got one, I would have gone, "Oh geez, I think he's a little unlucky there, but I can sort of see it in that second motion." The three is ridiculous, but they don't get off three, do they? No, it's going to be a tough call, but that's... They go from three to zero. They quickly have appealed, that Toby Bedford as well. "Hey, this is not going to be the story that you were seeking, but what I do want to make mention this morning is I think Dean Cox has a role to play in the next 24 to 48 hours, a significant part of the footy landscape going forward." What's your need to do? "I think Dean Cox must come out and make a comment about his coaching future now. Because I... And now, whether privately, you know, it's a deal between... And West Coast aren't going to say for one minute right now that he's our man yet, but there is little doubt he is their man priority one. There is no contrary to whatever you want to hear on radio stations, including this one, there is no written contract between Sydney and Dean Cox, John Longmire and Dean Cox. There is none. Is there a verbal? There's an expectation. There's no verbal. There's an expectation that they want Dean Cox to stay. If John Longmire doesn't coach on past 2025 or coaches on for three more years, they still want Dean Cox to be the next coach. Now, that's the way the owner goes back on to Dean Cox to decide whether he wants to stay as the two I see and knock back any of our opportunities, i.e. the West Coast. For me, if Dean Cox right now is hell-bent on standing firm in his position as an senior assistant at Sydney and loves Sydney so much, the town, the city, the families happy, the footy club he wants to coach, he should come out right now and just say, "I'm out. I'm not interested. Thank you. I'd love my old football club. I would love to be a senior coach one day, but my focus is purely on staying in Sydney for this year and the years to come and end all the speculation for him, for Sydney, for Sydney fans, for the Eagles, for Eagles fans." There's five elements and I think Dean holds the whip in. I agree with that point. If he wants to stay and he doesn't want to be the coach of the West Coast Eagles, I think you should say that. I don't know if he does want to be the coach of the West Coast Eagles. Silence is definitely. He should say, "I want to go." I think that's the obvious one. The more he's silent, I don't just lend itself to speculation and... Is it a distraction to Sydney? I don't think it's a distraction to Sydney that your assistant coach is looking to be a senior. No, I don't, but... Oh, that's why I don't think he'll actually come outside that, but I'm with you on the fact. I can't wait seven weeks for Dean Cox and then finals, mate. I just can't. I'm with you if he has no interest in West Coast job and he's going to stay in Sydney, I believe he should rule himself out right now. Agree. He might have actually even done that with the Eagles, who knows. But I agree with that bit, but if he does want the job, I don't think it's as important to say anything. I agree. If he wants the job, let it play out. No, no. No. So I think that's silence. I think he needs to say, "I've got a job to do right now." As a senior assistant, we're in a premiership race and I've got a job to do, but absolutely going forward, I would like to go through the process at West Coast. Sure. There will be no process to go through. If Dean Cox is approached to coach the West Coast Eagles, the process is done. Well, that's... Yeah, that's ballsy. I'd rather see them interview and, you know, no, bucks has been thrown up and I know they should make a phone call to Chris Scott's management and they make a phone call to prove and senior coaches. And then decide whether they want to go down that path of approving senior coach because they're in a hole. There's no doubt about that. And they've got to find someone with, I believe, a track record of developing players and rebuilding a list. Or do they go down the path of, "We need to find the next grade, McCray." And is that Dean Cox? It might be. Or is it Ash Anson? It might be. So they've got to... Whatever. They pull. It's a tough one. Dean Cox, one way or the other, needs to make a statement. Okay. There needs to be some comment. Happy where I am right now, but yes, I'll look at the Eagles' job if they're prepared to wait. Then it's over to West Coast to decide whether they want to wait because they're going to move. Because that's hard work, too, because... It's 11 or 12 weeks. Expects it need to be going very deep, if not all the way through September, late September. Correct. And then it takes away their whip hands, they have at the moment, of being the first ones looking for in the market. Correct. Then do they go, "We get to Coxie on October the 1st and say, "Yep, you're going to be a coach after everyone else has already locked away their pieces." And you want to make calls? Ah, man, you wouldn't be a CEO for quits. Alrighty. Good luck, Poggie. And I agree with Kane Corns last night, he did make very brief mention that he believes that if Dean Cox is a no, and that Sydney don't tie up John Longwire, the next call you make is John Longwire. Wow. If Sydney don't lock in John Longwire, because they don't want to lose Dean Cox, Longwire goes, "Okay, so you're not going to give me a three-contract extension. West Coast go, we'll give you five or six years." I'd be really, really confident. Really confident that John Longwire won't coach after coaching Sydney. 13-12-55-0-4-8-7-7-3-6-7-3-6, that was big. That was a long chat. There was plenty to do. I do apologize to everyone who's been waiting for on this day and the news. Oh, no, I'm already going to be okay. Yeah. # Can you say that my affection? # Well, it comes and goes, I need direction to affection. # No, no, no, no, no, help me out. # Yeah, you know you've got to help me out. A bit of killer's action, little please, 3-5-9. I'm just going to just read out the text, the temperate bed-shed text. OK, I'm going to read this out verbatim. Oh. How are the friggin? Yeah, I didn't even think of that bit. That's swear word, Paul is. That's with F. Huchie, let's on this day go to here on S-E-N-W-I has me stumped. It's not 8-8-2 or 6-I-X. Surely with his big check, spelled wrong, he got from Wildcats. He can get a new Prudducer, Prudducker. So wrong. And just let Scotty Ramble, the 20 minutes, is better than listening to when John Farnham last had a hit or the Beatles' birthday. Lift sausage. Thank you, 3-5-9. That's what I'm waiting for. Yeah, but look, the bottom line is... All I'm happy about is my rambling for 20 minutes is better than on this day. I've been signing for 8-8. OK, well, over to you. Firewise, got to eat there. On these days, Tuesday the 16th of July. Let's do a sport. John Farnham had another one here with this. APPLAUSE Sports update time, thanks to Kubota. Take on any job with Kubota's range of tractors, Mars and utility vehicles. And 3-5-9. Good morning. Good morning. The AFL is investigating St Kieldy Youngster Lance Collard over a ledge time, if I be close. Have you been done it? You've been done it. What have you been waiting for? And he's been suspended, yeah. Wow. You're right, so part of me, rather than being investigated, he has been suspended for 14 weeks. It might have been him who kicked it in. He might be 3-5-9. He might be 3-5-9. Check me into class. Whatever you should, whoever's next. What was the last one, 8 weeks? Yeah. Who got 6? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Yeah, got a chunk then. Who got 3? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Who got 5? Yeah, got a chunk then. Who got 3? third player to be accused of homophobia. Four players can get two years. Four players can get little sink in soon. Oh, you'd hope so. Basketball news, the boomers nearly pulled off a shock comeback win against the United States in their Olympic warm-up in Abu Dhabi, having traveled by 24 points midway through the third. They cut the deficit to six, but just couldn't get over the line. The Americans were a bit confused because they actually, when they had to play, they said, "Where is Abu Dhabi?" Jockleye. Is that somewhere in New California? They're scoring with 20 points. Josh Giddy was very good with 17. Dyson Daniels as well with 14. Jack McVay got nine. Imagine Jack McVay, who's getting six minutes in Adelaide three years ago. He's now a two-time champion championship player, playing for the boomers. He's lined up against Lebron James. He's scoring nine points. One of the great stories of Australian basketball. It's a good one not to win though. You don't want to beat him now. You don't want to shock him into action. Beat him in the gold middle guy. He's pulled that's what you do, ain't clever. Took the foot off the gas. Didn't want to give him all the secrets. Start the few outs. Hey, smart Scotty. Very smart. We won't be getting the middle. Oh, there it is. Is that the headline you were looking for? Scotty, the gastrodama's crystal ball. How dare you? Say sorry now. Not even a medal. What a medal. A medal? Why Australian medal? Have you seen our team? Yeah. Yeah. Josh Giddy. Yeah, good play. Yeah. Doesn't annuals, jock that out? Let's just clandow. We will not medal at the Games. Really? Yep. And I know my hopes. I want Mr. Wildcat. Are we still going to be Mr. Wildcat? I am WA. Yeah, mark that one, please. Griff, thank you. Another one to add to the ever-growing ruts to that whole button bar. This is the crow. We didn't make a new button, but we're all together. And WA All-Rounder Cooper Connolly is on the show call up for Australia's tour of the UK in September. He'll be joining us after on This Day Your Beauty. Birthdays, events, and some of the great moments in history. It's on this day. And interesting enough, literally on the next text, literally one minute later, three, five, nine, says Collinwood's slide helps through Mantle, who have Collinwood's top pick now picks seven. He just follows up with a just a plain norm hit. Random unit? Yeah, we like it, though. Keeps it on our toes. All righty, over you, Scotty. That does help, but it does help. Have you used Scotty? No, I'm asking you right now. It's before it's on this day time, isn't it? Yep. Goss, what is going to be the talking point in three weeks' time that we will discuss and then in four weeks' time, it'll get some traction in Melbourne. What's it going to be? When you're ready? Hi. I've got two. All right, we'll just throw enough darts. So I'm going to just hop into one. I only get one go at it. My, my, my, my, my, my. I'm only joking that Dean Cox is out of the running. Yeah, I don't think that comes as any great surprise. That's going to hit that he's out of the running. So he's got, I just want to reaffirm. He has no contracting place that he's taken over. But I suspect that Dean Cox, the silence is deafening enough to suggest that Dean Cox is not coming out. Sixteenth day of July on this day for Baron a day because the little things are everything. But he's got no legs, he's in a second six in the armour. Oh! Connolly's got the crowd in raptures, they came from it. We can forget that moment, Cooper Connolly, in Big Bash 12 final, with he and the lunch-carrying, bus-taking accountant, Nick Hobson. Yeah, catches the bus to work, I like what a champion. Can I just speak before we speak to Cooper? I don't want to hold him for too long because he's an Australian legend now. When we talk about you breaking news and being ahead of the curve, did you do a story in your previous employment at Channel 10 about Cooper Connolly? And that he will play for Australia one day, did you? Yeah, so how old was he at that time? I reckon he was four to nine. So what happened was Rod Corriata, who I reckon Cooper would know the Corriata family. Rod Corriata might be a mate of Cooper's old men. So Rod Corriata is our head cameraman. He came to us and drove us mad for months. "You've got to do a story on this kid, he's incredibly, well, he's fantastic. He's going to cap the Australia one day, he's a monster." And we went out to do the story on him and now... 14. And now, only a few years later, he's now playing for Australia. He's been named in the Australian T20 team for a couple of games over there in the UK. I know, we are the news-breaking station. "Hey, Coops, congratulations, mate, you absolutely buzzed up, well done." Thank you so much, thanks for having me. "I have lived up to your reputation, Rod Corriata said you were going to be a star, and you've been disappointing to now, but all of a sudden..." (LAUGHTER) I didn't think it was God. "You all thought it was a wasted story to be honest with you?" "In the minute 30, we'll never get back again, Cooper. Do you remember those days, way back then?" Yeah, I don't remember those days, Rod used to come down, watch my footy and cricket, and then used to speak to you at cricket, and see how it's going, and make sure I put him well and try to keep pushing through, so he was always nice to back up. Do you remember the interview with Gosh? How was it with me? What am I mean? "Oh, you sent him in there." "Oh, I thought he's not going to make it, so I thought I'm not going to do a story of luck." "Yeah, I'm not leaving the studio to talk to a 14-year-old." "What does it do to a 14-year-old? Does it give you a bit of a big head, that, wouldn't you, do you on the news at 14?" "It's TV." "To no support, I had no idea what was happening. I was just talking to a camera and seeing what happens." "Where were you when you got the call or the message that you had been picked to in the Australian T20 squad?" "Must have been a great time, and did you sort of sit back and go, 'Wow, did that just happen?'" "I'm actually funny enough, I missed the first phone call, because I was out for dinner at the pub." "But quickly, quickly got back onto it, and about 10 minutes later, I called him back, and now I got the news that I was going to travel to Scotland in England." "And yeah, I was pretty stoked, couldn't sit still for a period of time. I was buzzing around, pretty shocked, and yeah, it was the moment I'll never forget." "Who makes the call, Kevin? Is it George Bailey? Is it Mitch Marsh? Is it Skipper? Does he give you a buzz and say, 'Hey, mate, you're coming with me? Get your passport sorted.'" "I'm the Tony Donor main game, he had the buzz and I thought it was, yeah, just to catch up, but yeah, happened to be a different phone call, which is quite nice." "So he went back to your table and had 47,000 middies to celebrate, which is brilliant. I mean, obviously you were spy. You've obviously played, you know, a national underage cricket and the like, and you've been a star, and you've done your stuff for the scorchers, and white ball cricket, and also shield cricket." "This is a boy who would dream, is it not to play for Australia in any form of cricket, but we now know how important the white ball games are, so this must be something that you wanted to achieve a long time ago." "Yeah, I'm something I've always wanted to do, play for Australia in any form, obviously the manual is still a biggie green, but I think, yeah, as a boy, you always dream of playing for Australia, and hopefully I get that opportunity to lead out a childhood dream, but yeah, I'm just so thanks for the opportunity that I do to me." "Well mate, you know, off-season, so what happens now? I mean, this tournament's in September, you're going to the Scotland and the UK, so you're playing in Edinburgh, and then you've got a few across the UK, including one at Lords. This is in September, so is it now snap out of off-season? Have you been doing a little bit across your break as well?" "Yeah, we're back starting now and pre-season, so I'm starting to get everything going again, batting and bowing and all that kind of stuff, but just trying to take over and get some competitive work in as well as some technical stuff, so I'm moving in the right direction." "Plenty of Western Australians have been named in it, of course, in this, you know, it is the start of the World Cup cycle, Cam Green, Tim David, Aaron Hardy, Josh English, Marcus Stauner, so names you're familiar with, of course, so, you know, again, rubbing shoulders with some other players, I know you've probably played against most of them, but who are you looking forward to being on tour with that doesn't play for them?" "I'm actually really looking forward to being around Trevor's head, sort of nicely regressive left-hand, I hope that I can learn a bit. I feel he's done really well over the last two, three years, so I'm pretty excited to learn a few and see what he has." "You just signed a contract extension with the Scorchers, so can you give our listeners an insight into whether you or your manager or whoever that may be had been fielding calls from other franchises?" "Ah, no, no, we were fine, we were locked in here, so no other interest." "No, just knocked that on the head straight away, Cam." "Yes, a headlight, Cam." "He's seven other clubs were keen on us." "Yeah, yeah, was he like, was he this dismissive when he was 14?" "Yeah, they're talking about the versatility, mate, and obviously what you've done in the middle order for the Scorchers has been really, really good, but a little bit of left-arm spin as well. Are you going, are you working as an all-rounder, or is it, you've got a preference?" "No, I'm definitely working as an all-rounder, trying to get as much as I can in my game, makes me more, yeah, more versatile as he said, so yeah, try to get that ball, you know, as much as possible." "Now, interesting enough, obviously, you love your footy as well, who do you back from the AFL, Coach?" "I'm a Hollywood supporter." "Okay, bad luck about that." "Well, you'll not be friendshiped him, but they're not done, they will be back in action and he will be slightly distracted." "Because Grand Final Eve is your first game over there in Scotland, so you can sell those tickets that you've bought to the MCG on Grand Final Day." "Yeah, I hope the pretty sort of puzzle comes from 13, so here we go." "They ain't date, it's not over yet." "It is over, fly's a miracle worker." "Fantastic, so in simple terms, you're up and about, you can't wait, and September can't come quick enough to get over there with the Australian team." "Again, it's a boyhood dream for you to play at this level, of course, and you talked about Test Cricket, Barry Green, that's the next one, is it?" "Yeah, definitely, I think obviously it's a dream to go play for Australia in any format, but I still want to put the baggy green on, that would be sort of most of your childhood dream lived out, so that would be sort of the next goal." "We're pumped for you." "Yeah, fresh from making 90 and your shield debu as well, earlier in the good on your Cooper, really appreciate your time, continue this rise, mate, you've certainly created a lot of interest in cricket here in WA so far, and now on an Australian scale, good on your mate, well done, congratulations." "Thanks, I think so." "Here is Cooper Connolly joining us, the next big thing." "He's your cult figure all over you." "Yeah, he does." "He's your cult hero." "He certainly does." "Some subscribers are shot call up, many believe it was only a matter of time." "After seven o'clock, the Ox David Schwartz and Tim Kelly from the West Coast Eagles and Power Rankings." "After seven, keep those Texan calls coming, 22 degrees as you heard they're heading for a top today, 7.3 Kerry, Tim Kelly's still to come and also the Power Rankings, so mixed half hour and Mark Duffield." "After eight o'clock." "You're crap low." "I know." "Very good." "Paley George McElgick's going over to see Ben Cox, next week, the Uncle." "Wow." "Keep the calls and Texan coming, Darryl says the AFL and MRP have been great going in retro, bringing back the beef, half the beef, the jumper punch, the head punch, the elbow, the sling or the chicken wing, the WWE will be proud of. The incorrect disposals that make NRL, all I need to see is pressure point and will be in the box set." "You've been going card full." "Nice work, Darryl. Let's talk to the Ox David Schwartz AFL Nation and I can see him sitting in the box, sitting in the box with Melbourne." "When Melbourne, we're disconnecting Essendon, the team that he loves to hate and the team that he loves." "Yeah, what a weekend he's had, can't lose." "Colin would lose." "Colin would lose, Essendon lose, Melbourne win." "No win." "Yeah, good morning Ox, how's your week been?" "I feel like you're after now, just sitting back with the dressing gown on, surrounded by lovelies and just enjoying what a beautiful Monday Tuesday delivers me." "Sometimes you're getting lucky Scotty, and on this occasion it was my day." "No, that's right, I wasn't expecting to hear his name on our show tonight, I'd be perfectly honest with you." "Hey, what was your heart, let's start with your days. Were they back in business, or were Essendon poor and just didn't really adapt to the wet weather at all?" "I don't think it was Melbourne so much, I thought Essendon played a really, really silly game of 40, they weren't brave. They got a tip top two spot on the line and they tried to play too cute." "I thought they played safe and they came back to bite them, they did what Hawthorne did to Melbourne and I was thinking about around four where they tried to play the chip game and it just doesn't, you can't do that against Melbourne." "The way to beat Melbourne is, just go and get the Fremantle tape from Alle Springs and that'll show you how to beat them. You make them accountable and you take them on through the corridor and you run and run and run and rest and refuse to do that." "I think they lost that game, Melbourne are going to do what they're going to do and it was enough to beat them so calling it in the box Scotty, I was very, very chuffed, very, very chuffed." "It's very hard to be on by, very hard to be on by. It's going to take you to Friday night." "Where are the pies that matter? We had just had Cooper Connolly on who's been selected in the Australian T-20 team. He's a pies man. Where are they at? Is it fixable? They're problems at the moment or is it look like curtains for them this far out?" "I reckon the key injuries that they've had have curtailed any real charge they're going to make and the hunger's not there. They're not the same hungry side that they were last year. So I think Murphy early was a huge loss. "My check not playing. Allied in and out. Cox gone. They've got no flexibility through the midfield. The goys missed the chunk of the season. They've just had no continuity. So I think they've been really good. They've lost some really close games. They've been in it up to their eyelids against my side. So they're not horrible and they're still having a go. "You can never criticise Collin Wood for not giving 100% effort. It's just those little 1% of the moment in their hunger. It's probably not there." "We see so much now Ox in today's footy. If there is one defender missing, the other one generally gets exposed because in your talk about Barris and McGovern you talk about Lever and May and across the board when there's two key defenders, they rely on each other so much. When one's gone, the other one gets exposed a little bit. "Is this what we're seeing, the loss of Nathan Murphy early to concussion and retirement, has that been the key factor in exposing Darcy Moore?" "I think they're so rare. To find good defenders, we saw it was this way with Hawthorne. He didn't play. They got belted. And I know they'll damage along and all that sort of stuff. They're key defenders for a reason. They get the job done. They always take a good player. "And when you have good symmetry between a couple of them, it's even more powerful. I agree, Scotty. I think you're having your key back when standing up. "Now we've got Collin. When we're doing got injured a couple of weeks ago, we've got that corky. They're game flipped on a dime. So it happens fast and we say that one player doesn't make a result, but I think we're seeing it more and more than ever. "Actually, it does make a result. It does make a huge difference." David Schwartz, our fellow nation Melbourne champion for Sonos, multi-room listening wireless home theatre, and a whole lot more. Our talk over here is the replacement for Adam Simpson. There's another six weeks to go, Jared Skoford took the reins. We saw some changes on the ground and a bit of style I took on Brisbane. What sort of coach, in your opinion, now, that the deck is cleared to replace Adam Simpson? There's been silence out of Sydney. I'm calling on Dean Cox to make a public statement one way or the other, whether he wants to stay long term as an assistant and replace John Lommer in five years' time, whatever that may be, or put his hand up for the Eagles' job. What's your thoughts on that and what's your thoughts on who the Eagles need, Ox? Well, I think a quality person like Dean Cox would be ideal. And if I'm Dean Cox, I want to get out of that Sydney box, because all he does is get screamed up by John Lommer. He's a whipping boy. I'd be out of there straight away. I've got to remember John Lommer was a play manager many, many moons ago. He's actually my first play manager that I had. And so he knows the system. I think it'd be disrespectful for Dean Cox to come out publicly straight away and give his intentions. There's no doubt his management behind the scenes is speaking to the right people. And whilst they've got a finals campaign on the line, I reckon Dean Cox has too much class to say, "Yeah, I'm putting my hand up until this job is done with Sydney, but behind the scenes, I wouldn't be surprised if he's already signaled that his intentions would be that if the job is available, he will be putting his hand up." Def in the left ear, Cox, he cannot hear a thing in his left ear. I'm of complete different viewpoint on that. I'm Jack on polar opposites. I'm 180 from that. I think because of the speculation that can only be confusing for Sydney, confusing for West Coast. And I know you're going to say what's happening behind the scenes, but footy's not behind the scenes. Footy is a very public game. And I think everyone at West Coast be that members and supporters and Sydney members and supporters. I think because his name is such at the pointy end of both clubs at the moment, some form of guidance is required right now because if the word is right, Cox, that he's staying and he doesn't want to. And he got no contract with John Longwire or Sydney to coach in 2026 and beyond. But if he is hell bent on happy in Sydney, why doesn't he just come out and say, "I'm not going to go back to WA. I'm happy here, whether it be second in charge or whether it be future coach, whatever that may be. Don't you think that would be better for all parties?" No, because I reckon that if he was staying at Sydney, that would have already been announced. So I reckon he's got to play his cards close to his chest and he's got to do it behind scenes because he's the sort of person. He's got on a, he's got an honorable bow. He's not going to, he's not going to grapple over Sydney whilst they've got their best chance at, you know, playing in the grand final and possibly winning one. Until the time is right. And he'd be speaking with horse and, you know, the Sydney hierarchy in exactly that. And I just don't need anything to, you know, ruffle feathers and, you know, the last thing you want is a boat walking into the change rooms, knowing that he's going to be going somewhere else because it affects the trust, wordiness within the group. And I reckon it's only bad, it's only bad things can happen. I reckon if they play behind the scenes, they just say, look, we're going to make the decision after Sydney's campaign is over. So be patient and we will make that decision at the time, but we're not being disrespectful to a club that he's been involved with for, I don't know, over a decade. And you find a lot of the time, too, if the assistant coach says, I'm going to go and coach here or I'm going there, they get rid of him straight away. And that's what I'm saying. But I think that's what I'm saying. That's exactly the reason. That's why he has to say something. No, no, no, that's the wrong reason, because if you get rid of him, you lose a huge, you lose a huge chess piece in being able to, hopefully, win a grand final for a side that you've been involved with. Sydney are going to blow up a finals campaign for Dean Cox for the sake of telling a few supporters four weeks earlier than what they need to. Are you telling me that Dean Cox is, if Dean Cox is not in the coaches box for the next six games, whether it be four games and then the finals campaign, that's going to derail Sydney. Do you think that work's not been done? No, I reckon I could derail Sydney because then he plays a line to Dean Cox. There'll be players that have his trust that he's working with on a daily basis that he has worked with for the last 10 years. Let's just pick a play, Chad Warner. Chad Warner's forms going well. He's got his comfort on him, Dean Cox. Dean Cox is no longer there. Chad Warner's, you know, his world's not turned upside down, but certainly it has changed significantly. And he's a big figure within that club. He's not just a, you know, I did a talk up there two years ago. Dean Cox is right in the middle of everything that's happening. So I just wouldn't upset the Apple card. I don't think Sydney would. They're too professional. They're too smart. They'll deal with it and a statement will be made in a week. I can almost read it now. Dean Cox is a contracted person here at the Sydney Swans, and we won't be talking until the end of our campaign. And do you think he'll coach the West Coast Eagles next year? Yes, I do. Yeah, so he goes out on a flag and then comes back. I can see both of those. And West Coast makes a lot of time, but do they? Well, they're going to have to. But no, I think what Ox is saying... No, Ox, no. What he's saying is that the deal will be done. If Cox is the coach of the West Coast Eagles, it'll be understood between parties, between management, between the Eagles, but between Sydney, they just won't do it until after the final if they make it. The silence is different. It's rare that a coach gets sacked without a contingency plan up this week. So they would have had phone calls into Dean Cox probably eight weeks ago. There you go. There you go. What have you made of the players' suspensions? Obviously, Toby Bedford, Charlie Cameron. Well, we got us an eye yesterday. He said, "I don't think Charlie Cameron gets anything. I think he'll be OK with this one, but he's got three. We couldn't have been further from the truth." No, they've got to fix it. They've just got to fix it. Yeah, any tackle can be deemed as dangerous. Now, are we going to change the charter of the whole AFL about tackling? No, we're not. Because the charter isn't able to be changed. So what they've got to do is they've got to sort of that, they've got to work out. And it's not Michael Christian's fault. This is the AFL Commission and the Holorike of the AFL getting the wording right and getting the interpretation right. So that tackling is a huge part of the game. And we see, I don't have any tackles per game. I would say it's 50 tackles again. It's 100 tackles a game. At the moment, people don't know. If that bit to one is a three-week suspension, we're going to have less players playing over the next month than we've ever seen before. And they're not dangerous tackles. They're tackles that are bringing players to ground. The only way they can change it so the players don't get hurt is you cannot tackle players to the ground. You've got to tackle them standing up. And then what will happen is every player that's bringing tackle will drop their knees and go to the ground and it'll be freaky. And we're going to have 12... And the game will be stuffed. And the game will be stuffed. And the game will be stuffed. Yeah, 12 asterisks is on the ground limit or not. Yeah, well, the top 10 won't have a chance at winning and the blokes will be winning. Scotty has a little ferret sitting out on the wing to refuse to tackle. He's a system, couldn't agree more than boss, couldn't agree more. Alrighty, Ox, let's get our teeth into the round because you know you love to tip early. Yeah, who you got this week, you know? Yeah, what game you got? I got two, I think I got Friday night, which is the Adelaide game and I've got... I've got a good one, actually, I've got G.W. Essent Gold Coast, I'm looking forward to that one. You're going to watch Essent and run around again on Friday. Oh, I can't wait for that. Imagine the crowd's got up and beat the bomb race. Oh, oh, oh. Alrighty, well, there's... where's your tip? Essent and take on Adelaide, Marvel Stadium Friday night. Essent and buy 10 goals. (LAUGHTER) Oh, we end off to a stinger. (LAUGHTER) Yeah, no, that'll be unexpected, that'll realise what they did wrong and they'll adjust. Adelaide, Adelaide don't have the cattle to go with Essent so I'll tell the bombers. G.W. Essent, the Gold Coast on the road, they've been terrible. Yeah, they have been and I think G.W. Essent and I don't think the time you bet for decision will change the result. I'll say G.W. Essent should get their chocolates, you know, hate them. They've got the white shorts on, Scotty, I know you were very good with the white shorts on but... Didn't like them. G.W. Essent, the Gold Coast, the Gold Coast, the hopeless with the white shorts on. No, it's slimming it all very bad, the white shorts. Secilda, Marvel, lock this in, West Coast will beat Secilda and the market is completely upside down, outside as West Coast, alarmingly so. Four bucks for it. Unbelievable for West Coast. The market is so wrong, Secilda are stinking. Now, Tim, I know you're a Saints man. This year's reverse psychology 101. Come on, surely, surely, surely. I'm not a St. Kilda fan. I just don't think they're listed any good, but I just can't see the West Coast second game. They're up last week, but I can't see themselves getting up and beating St. Kilda. I'm going to tip the Saints, they should win. It might be 54 versus 47, but I'm going to take St. Kilda. They don't score. And when they try to score, like they did against Sydney, they win. So if they want to go into a shootout with West Coast, they will lose. West Coast will want St. Kilda to take this game on. Otherwise, if St. Kilda want to make it six goals to five, West Coast will kick 12 and win. But if they want to make it 15 goals all, St. Kilda have got a chance, but that's not the way St. Kilda play. That's why I think West Coast will see. Are you talking like West Coast of the Harlem Globetrotters? Sometimes if they score 12 goals every week. The last game I saw them play, they took the game on with a bit more abandon freedom. Second week, post-coach second is always a downer. It's always a flat man. Playings and Kilda. I'm with Ox. I'm going. I'll be going. St. Kilda, mate. It's terrible. What are the worst team to watch in football? I won't watch the game, but I'm telling you right now I'll have to catch some highlights, but I'll be tipping St. Kilda too. We've got Hawks in the pies of the MCG. Oh, God. This is going to be a good game. I'm going to tip Collingwood. I'm still yet to be 100% convinced with Hawthorne. We saw it again. It's still long against the bigger bodies and the more mature teams. They still seem to struggle. This is the last chance we're going with. They don't win, and that's why I can fly. We'll have them chewing through bricks. Might seem may not take out a few and the pies get the chocolate from that one. Geelong are hosting the Bulldogs in Geelong. They've won their last three. The cats, they're back. They're back. How do you tip the doggies? Well, I'm going to go to this game. I'm sitting up in the President's lunch. So looking forward to a little bit of royalty at the Caterine. Well, when you're a local Scotty, when you live down in Geelong, do you get invited to special things like this? Well, I wasn't invited. I had a spare ticket, so I'm just kind of... Oh, God. I'm kind of just slid in there. So... Well, no, no. I'm not going to catch. No, I don't want to say. It's just a friend of a friend. And now they'll win. They'll win. The doggies can't put two games together. And they're very, very difficult to beat down at the Caterine. So I'll take the cats with... And I'm live in Patrick Dangerfield's 40. It's the best 40 I've seen in play for probably two years. Port Adelaide, host Richmond. Yeah, they win. Fort Paul win. Richmond are done and dusted. But telling you now, Port Adelaide could be the biggest pretenders in the game. They should have... They were horrible last week. Horrible against Gold Coast. The Hall fans didn't have a touch in the first quarter. Super disappointing for the three best midfielders in the game. Or the best three midfielders in the game. They've just got to get more out of them. And with Butters, Rosie and Hall fans, they should be able to do the job on Richmond. All right, let's turn our fixtures to the Sunday. Brisbane and Sydney in Brisbane. Sydney will beat them. Brisbane, Brisbane are OK. But travelling back from the west, it's one of my big question marks. I think it's too much of an ask. Sydney will be very fresh after playing North Melbourne. He's the longest flight in footy. Fremantle are taking on Melbourne here at Optus Stadium. Fremantle... Yeah, Fremantle win that one. Melbourne travelling over and you hit a number on the full Fremantle. I did a number on Melbourne last time. I'm going to tip Fremantle. But hopefully my demons can lift and maybe surprise another one. But are they favourites Fremantle? Yeah, it would be, wouldn't they? Yeah, they're very sure price favourites. Yeah, the last one, mate, is your beloved Blues. Your beloved Blues, they've had a reset. I believe they've had a players meeting and a reset. They'll just do what they need to do against Northwanda. They have to. They just have to. It would be a wonderful day for all Australians and all the people of the world. If North Melbourne happened to get a win. That would be... Can you imagine, Scotty? Can you imagine? Oh, that's good. Oh, I could just see Corey McKernan. You know, he played for both clubs proudly. I could just see him wearing his North Melbourne scarf and just celebrating. And it would be... I'll be driving it up and down. I'll go straight for two days if that happens. It would be beautiful. Good on you, Ox. Always love our chats, mate. Breakfast power by Kubota. Take on any job with Kubota's range of tractor's mowers and utility vehicles. We love our chats. We'll do it again next week. Thanks, boys. Here he is. Ox, a couple of texts on the temporary bed shed. I hope you're better at selling houses and negotiating for a coach. As contract Cox needs to hold out and get something on paper from Sydney. He's already got something on paper from Sydney, Ben. He's under contract till the end of next year. What I'm saying is, and I disagree with Ox, and I sort of thought Scott had flipped. He was with me originally. Now he's gone over to the Oxcamp. So I just sort of think that the end of the day is... Very convincing. The end of the day is that Dean Cox, if Sydney... Cos there's an extra element. Because if Sydney is saying to Dean Cox, "Hey, do you want to stay for another four years? Cos we're about to sign John Longwire." Cox, you could be sitting on his backside as an assistant coach in Sydney for four more years. Sydney might not be where Sydney is right now. They're telling Paul might not be as good right now. And then West Coast have a surge, and he's not a part of that. He wants to be a part of that. So he's got to make a decision. It depends on which camp you're in at the moment. Like if you're Dean Cox, you don't have to actually sign a thing. But if you are the West Coast Eagles, you want him to say something. If you're Sydney, I'm not sure they want him to say something. I think there'll be complete communication going on. But I'm sort of with Ox. He's a big piece of their coaches box. He's a real leveler for John Longwire as well. And if John Longwire and Sydney go to Dean Cox, you'd be Dean Cox, Dean. Oh, hey, yeah. Dean, we know West Coast are India. We know you want to be a senior coach. We've got a job to do to try and win the premiership this year with you as a senior assistant. But are you chips in, or like every other bloke who's looking for a senior job going forward, your mind clearly is not going to be on the job. Are you going to focus on what we need to do? I am 100% chips in until this campaign is over. And it is all that will take my time and attention. And I will deal with that after this campaign is done. We're spoken to Don, Don wants an answer now, Dean. Oh, I'm sorry, but Don will just have to wait. But he's not prepared to wait until then, Dean. Well, then, OK, then you've still got me to see out my contract. There you go. There's your answer. We're after. Breaking news, if we hand thank you very much, this is big. What about the rise of Jack McVay? Jack McVay has agreed to a two-way deal with the Houston Rockets in the NBA. Wow. According to ESPN, over knowledge has thrown that one up as well. So Jack McVay, for those who don't know, was playing six minutes a game in Adelaide, went to Tassie, championship player, superstar, game winner, got picked in the Boomers squad, then gets picked in the Boomers team for the Olympics, then goes and scores nine points against the USA overnight, playing against LeBron James and the like. And he's now one step away from an NBA career with the Houston Rockets. With the Houston Rockets. Wow. Good idea. Yeah, fantastic. Not great for Australian basketball because he's a real match winner. Oh, he's tough to defend the island again. Yeah. Let's get a break away and come back. Thanks to Ox for his time. Tim Kelly and the power rankings after 7.30. Yes. 2 degrees. 7.3 currently. Power rankings just around the corner. And so is Mark Duffield because he's in after either clock. He heard power rankings. Now quickly did he come into the studio? You know, I haven't heard any of the other dribble you've like, have gone on a bit, but I'm coming into the power rankings. Wow. You had Locky Neil on your in-list last week and I think there's a bullet somewhere in there and it's not aimed at Don's head. It's aimed at Locky Neil's direction. He's gone. Morning to you, Mark Duffield after high clock. Good morning. We've had a pretty strong conversation at 6. Dean Cox. Yeah. Thought process. Well, it happens every year and they get it sorted every year. I think your point is valid in that what are we going to pretend that this is not happening if no one says anything. I mean, everyone knows that Dean Cox will be one of the people they're speaking to. What I also would say though is that I think West Coast needs to run a process and make sure Dean Cox is the right bloke. Otherwise... Well, hasn't Don quite done that? Yeah, Rhonda sent a text in the door saying West Coast needs to do the due diligence and that might, may take time, don't throw all our chips in for coffee. I'm going to throw a name up there that hasn't even been mentioned that I'm told he's very highly rated and he's a former West Coast player. No one's talked about him yet and his name is Scott Selwood and one of the reasons why Craig McCrae sits on the boundary line is because he knows there are people like Scott Selwood up in the box. He's very highly rated. No one's spoken about him. He's a former West Coast person. There's also guys like Syracuse, our G and Syracuse are in these guys. But champion Scott Selwood? Yeah. So, run the process. Find out. Make sure that Dean Cox is the right bloke. If you're asking to find the next Craig McCrae, there's a bloke sitting in the box, pulling a lot of strings in Craig McCrae's box. Yeah. He's very highly rated. I'm told. Oh, nice one. It's really, really interesting. But look, as long as he speaks, Goss will be happy, right? As long as he declares whether he wants the job or not. No, you see, that's just foolish, Scott. You know, that's not what I'm implying. I am simply implying that if he's going to sit in Sydney and Sydney say to him, "What's your plan going forward?" He goes, "I ain't going anywhere," then come out and say, "I think there is enough silence out there to suggest that he's not hell-bent on staying in Sydney, but everyone keeps telling me he is." We'll say something, end it. That's just it. I think if he says he wants to stay in Sydney and he's not interested in any of his jobs, then he needs to tell him, make that comment. That's where I'm going from. That's where I'm going from. But if he wants to come home, he doesn't need to say anything. Can we get the pairing? He's very up. No, I just want to ask you about the Charlie camera thing. Yes. You were there. We saw it. We saw it. I should have blown the whistle earlier. That's just my opinion. My view on these things is a little bit different to everyone else. I think we can't have people getting head injuries. We just can't. It's the biggest financial threat to the game. That's the reality. But I think if you take a bloke to ground, you run the risk. Now, if he doesn't get hurt, give him a warning. Give him a fine. Let him off. If the bike gets hurt, you've got to get weak. It's as simple as that. But isn't Liam Duggan contributing factor to going to ground? Oh, hard to know. But Charlie throws his weight on top of him as he takes him to ground. A little second, mate. Liam Duggan's a strong man with the ball. So he's bracing for content. But if you watch the whistle's playing. You know what? The smart clubs are already adapting. Did you watch Jelong Collingwood? Do you watch how many Jelong players were holding players up? They've already decided, don't take him to ground. Tackle him, don't take him to ground. Look, guys, we've had this about bumping. We've had this about sliding in. The game changes because of the need to, because they're bigger. They're stronger. They're running quicker. The injuries occur in different ways. So the AFL says we can't have this happening anymore. So we've got to do this. And the smart clubs adapt. They don't complain they adapt. And the smart clubs are already adapting. When it takes before, just before about, will they start ruling out? High marks. The specky. They hang out. Will they take that out? Because the danger of a knee going to the back of the head. What do you got coming out for at the eight? Gonna talk to Joe Brydie, of course. The free man or footy man? Oh, they're gone. We're off. Yeah, there we go. There's one game in Tezio. We've stuffed it up again. I beat Mel with my six belts. Hey, I love the Oxford staff. I love the Oxford staff. But I love how it's really hard for Melbin to travel over here. But free man or coming back from Tezmo? No, that's all right. Yeah, he's safe. There's too much paint. No, he's on business classes. Our clubs obviously must have a TARDIS. And they just sort of like zap themselves in place to play. So everyone else has to get on play. Tim Kelly's going to join us shortly. Good on your duff. Duff's in after eight o'clock. Well, business class seats that 23 blokes. Share. Tracy, 10. Locky, Neil, nine. Charlie Kurno, eight. Zatch Merritt, seven. Errol Gooden, six. Wow. Patrick Cripps, five. Chad, one or four. Isaac, Haney, three. Didn't play. Marcus DeBonton. Belly and Nick Dacos is on the nose. All righty. Your watch list is so wrong and Rosie. Go. I'm adding Toby Green to the watch list. Okay. And he's not on the list because it's one performance and it was exceptionally good. But if they're coming, GWS, and he has the power to be, or the ability to be seriously a big contributor towards the end of the season, which is what this list is all about. Number nine. Number 10 stays at Josh Tracy. Number nine is Zatch Merritt. He's just drifting because I'm not sure where Eson is going to sit towards the end of this season. Number eight stays Charlie Kurno, three, seven. Yes, I know. But you know he's going to have a huge son. He wins it. He can win that game off his own boot on the weekend. Number seven is Locky Neel. He's come down a couple of spots. Errol Gordon stays at six. Crip stays at five. Warner stays at four. He stays at three. Belly stays at two. Nick Dacos holding on by a thread to number one because again, I'm not sure we're calling what he's going to sit towards the end of the year. Love the power ranking. As you can see him on socials and let us know what your thing 04877367316 Kelly is next. [MUSIC] Looking forward to our chat with Tim Kelly from the West Coast Eagles. His last quarter was as good as it gets I thought on the weekends. Kelly, you agree? Yeah, yeah. He's in my votes. Yeah. And I had the headphones and TK certainly got one of them. 29 disposals, kick the goal as well. Part of what was a very vibey performance will be that they didn't get the win. Tim, appreciate your time. Good morning. Good morning, guys. Thanks for having me. Thank you for coming on. How different? How different was the feel with Jared Scofield? It looked like the shackles were off, so to speak, from an outside of looking in. Probably no different as a player, but just give us your opinion. Yeah, look, obviously it was a different build-up considering, I guess, the week we had. Obviously the news with Tim Owen, I guess all the boys are sort of wrapping their heads around what it's going to look like moving forward. So, yeah, I wouldn't necessarily say that the shackles were off, but it was more about, you know, responding the right way, you know, and obviously digging deep for Simo and just the week we've had, obviously coming off a poor performance and, like I said, the week we had. So, yeah, look, you know, you had to say honorable losses, but that's pretty much what it was in the end. Yeah, I cried at the Brisbane, I was too good on the day, but, yeah, proud of the boys, and just the way we folded out. The last week when the news came through that Adam was going, we had Bali Williams on air, and Bali said, I asked him about the pressure on Adam Simpson and what responsibility did the players take, and he said full responsibility. Can I ask you now what responsibility, as a senior player with that playing group, do the eagles take for Adam Simpson's departure? Not saying total responsibility, but how much do you take, boys? We're going to take some of the heat here. What's your view? Absolutely. You know, I think Bali's comment on four responsibilities is pretty true. At the end of the day, we're the ones out there, you know, trying to implement, you know, the game plan and the style of play that, you know, he's, you know, putting in front of us. So ultimately in the end, as plays, and as our playing group, like we, we feel as if we let him down, for sure. Hey, Tim. Early in that game on the weekend, Jesus was ugly in the middle. One stage, he was 13-1, center clearances, but you should turn it around on the back of your hard work as well. Personnel didn't change that much. What changed, so what changed the dynamics? I think it finished 15-13, so it was an incredible run that you had, as I said, led by you. What changed them because the personnel didn't change that much? Yeah, just little details, you know, little details that, you know, I probably, you know, I can't really dive into too much, but it just basically started being a little bit close to the European and just playing smarter, so we're sort of getting beat by what we know. You know, we usually do a pretty good job at scouting the opposition, you know, and that was no different with Brisbane, obviously with, you know, the quality of players they've gotten there. So we'll just get in beat by what we knew, by what we knew. So we just had to tighten up a few things, and it looked a little bit more us. So yeah, we definitely, we definitely spoke about that half time. We'll certainly let the boys down and, you know, games will want to turn it down. So credit tell us boys to fight it back and sort of even up in that area, but, you know, I think sort of been different and had we started that way. Charlie Cameron just got given three weeks there, appealing this tackle on, of course, Liam Duggan, who went off with concussion, and now misses the trip to St. Kilda. As a player, it must be, take, take the teams out of it. Obviously, that's a tough call on Charlie Cameron, is it not? I mean, no slinging motion, just a front on tackle, falls to ground. As a player, you confused by what's going on with the decisions? Yeah, not going to lie, I definitely am. You know, and certainly feel for Duggan, we're certainly going to miss him this week. And your moral account, he seems to be fine, touch wood, but it didn't look like there was anything too malicious into it. And from my office, you know, most people's perspective looking at it, certainly mine, it sort of just looked like a bit of a bad accident. So, yeah, it's a bit of a hard one. Yeah, three weeks, I'm not too sure. It's ridiculous. Steve, to be honest with you, Goss and I said, you probably get nothing, but that's why we're the experts today, and this is why we're coming on your career, and we're playing, and that sort of jazz, we have valued opinions. Hey, man, I loved Ruben Jimmy across half-back. I thought, and it's been, you know, watching him over the last year and a half, it's been, he does get a little lost in the middle because he's a ball hunter. He goes after footy and he loses his man a little bit. He's crossed half-back, I thought he's run, and his accountability was top-notch. Yeah, look, mate, it definitely was. You know, Ruben's shown in the past, I think it's, I think when he first started playing and came into the team last year, he sort of was that defender who could also come in and meet, and then, you know, obviously with his, with his hunt and his contest work, he sort of became more of a permanent insider, sort of wind player. And, yeah, he just showed that, you know, it's a bit of a Swiss army knife. He can sort of do it all, and he's one who's, you know, every day, just getting better and better, and, you know, probably one of the, already probably up there for one of the best trainers at the club, and just the way he approaches, you know, the lifestyle of it all. And, yeah, he had a big impact for us on the weekend, and, you know, hopefully he can continue to grow in that area as well. Tim Kelly, I guess you take on St Kilda at Marvel on Saturday, mate. This is, you are absolute living certainies. You take goals, you win the game against him. Take the game on. Don't get caught up with this Ross Lyon sort of lockdown stuff, TK. We need to just go at it hard, take him on, make it a shoot out. Did you coach Scoey at Subaru at all? No, coach Scoey, so he coached after me. He coached after me. Yeah. So, I'm just saying, the Goss' opinion is probably cherished by Scoey, so maybe take some of these ideas with him. Take the game on, Tim. Yeah, mate, look, I'm hearing you. We certainly, you know, I think that's what the fans want to see. And, you know, although it might look like it at times, we certainly are trying to play that way as well. So, yeah, I think you need to get a few things right. I think it starts in the contest, play the game in your front half and then you've got all the energy in the world for taking it on. You know, at times, I think, you know, if we don't get those two things right, you know, you're really trying to start playing the game, start the game from your back half. And when you've been defending all day, sometimes you just don't have the energy for it. So, I'm hearing you. But I think it starts in the contest. We get that right, play the game in our front half. And then, yeah, we, you know, all options are on. If you lose 25 goals to 22, I think the Eagles fans don't care. No, no, no. But if you lose eight goals to seven, we care. Yeah, I'm hearing you, mate. It changes their whole show on Monday. So, if you could not be too selfish, it's all about it. If you look at the board and it's an armrest, or can you just go, "Gee, what did Gosson Scotty say?" Yeah, take it on, boys, take it on. There you go. Throw the marbles again. Take it on. Exactly. With the run that you threw up on Sunday, I mean, you were running, covering the ground as well. I think I've seen you cover the ground for some time. You must be feeling good about your own rig, too. Thanks, mate. Yeah. Yeah, look, I've had a, I've had a bit of a tough run this year. So, sort of, hasn't really, hasn't really gone my way from a body perspective. And, yeah, since about round three, I think I've been dealing with a little bit of, a bit of cartilage damage and bone stress in my knee. So, I've been able to front top each week, but from preparation point of view, hasn't really been ideal. So, for a while there, up until I did a hit flexor strain, it was pretty much minimal preparation during the week. Yeah, let my knee settle because of the swell up a fair bit, and then sort of roll out on game day and have a crack. So, I've been okay, but I've been a little bit below my best. So, the last couple of weeks, I've actually felt like I'm starting to get on top of this. And, more importantly, from preparation point of view, hadn't in the game feeling really good. So, hopefully that can continue. Last one, I've only got 30 seconds left. Liam Ryan, the rug salesman, doing some great stuff there. Wow, I'm not sure it's great stuff. No, I'm sure it's great stuff. It's perfect. That's Liam Ryan right there. You can also buy my rugs. Yeah, I've all loved me rugs, as you know. Have you given him any advice in regards to his commercial acumen? No, I haven't given him any advice. He looks like a natural. No, he's a good teammate right there. He's a beauty. Yeah, he's a natural. He does it. He's not white. And that's what we love him. That's what we love him. We do. Yeah, now he's a little buddy. He's broke. He's carpeted. And he's pink as well. So, yeah, no, he won't be hard. I think I'll be getting that boss from here, mate. Nice work. Hey, TK. All the best against the Saints. Thanks for joining us today. Been fun chat. No worries. Thanks guys. It's a great form and good to hear that he's in peak fitness. Let's get a breakaway and come back. News is next at Mark Duffy. Well played by you. Good on you, buddy. Well done, boys. Tim Kelly, you hear that? And much more in the podcast. [MUSIC]
