My dad works in B2B marketing. He came by my school for career day and said he was a big row as man. Then he told everyone how much he loved calculating his return on ad spend. Not sure what he's doing. He might be doing a premiership cup tour of Port Perry. Dan Mendel is here in studio LUMO and we are stoked to be joined by SCNWA's Tim Gossage. And Scott Cummings, good morning to you, boys. It's what? It was about 3 a.m. In Perth at the moment. You've got a committed to SCNSA. Thank you. Absolutely. Good morning, fellas. Great to be with you. I'm here with the man who, well, disappointingly, he's not proud of it. But the man who broke the story first before anyone else yesterday in Tim Gossage is the first to know that it was a bad day for Adam Simpson over here, unfortunately, for Simma. Yeah, it didn't come as a great surprise to most people, but a good old fashioned journalist. And just teach these young bucks a thing or two. It's going to be a long morning here, boys. I'll tell you right now. He was right. He was right. It is going to be a long morning and for Adam Simpson, boys, is he going to coach this week that was part of the press conference that has been spoken about. When do you think a decision will be made around that? It's very awkward. It was a very awkward performance from Don as the CEO to put that on Adam Simpson without any discussion, according off guard. There's a part of me that wants him to do it. I think he deserves to do it. It would take him to equal second with McBoldhouse in most games coached at West Coast behind John Worsfeld. I think that would be nice. But I think he deserves a fitting sendoff from the fans. What happens from here? Over in South Australia, all we are hearing is that there's potentially former West Coast players like Dean Cox, Ash Hanson, that could step in. But also, there's this feeling that Don Pike, he went to West Coast with the idea that maybe he was supposed to jump in the seat last year. From your perspective, what's the noise you're hearing, guys? We ran with that on Tuesday, Goss and I, and said, "Well, the best candidate they have is actually in the big chair at the moment, and geez, we've got poo-pooed for that everywhere on socials." But look, that is the word if Trevor Nizbert stayed last year, and stayed on a CEO that Pike would be coaching this year, obviously, sliding doors moment. But a lot of talk about the Eagles' favorite sons, and I'd normally question that sort of thing. Do you want someone who's just had an Eagles voice, normally you wouldn't, but these guys, we're talking Dean Cox, we're talking Ash Hanson, those sort of guys that have moved away from the football club. Jamie Graham's another one that have gone and got IP from other clubs now. Now, Cox, he's obviously been involved with Sydney for a long time, and we're now good there going at the moment. Jamie Graham's doing really good stuff at Freo and Ash Hanson, who's been at the Bulldogs in Carlton. They've been away from the club, so it's not just coming back in with that one mentality of the West Coast Eagles football club. That doesn't bother me right now, and Cox, he's probably the one on top of the list. Obviously, with his relationship with Pike, he's seen him firsthand at Sydney, but we're also led to believe, too, that there is a handshake agreement that Cox will take over from John Lomay as soon as he's had enough, whether that's a year, two years, or three years, we don't know. So it's a decision for Cox if he's the main man, whether he wants to come back and take on what's going to be a really, really tough and brutal rebuild, or does he want to pick up a team that is going pretty good? And the biggest issue for Dean Cox and Sydney, and therefore, West Coast, is if Dean Cox is the man and West Coast move quickly on getting him, he won't be a part of Sydney's campaign. See you later. So that is a massive out, because he can't stay. West Coast can't wait till after the grand fall for Dean Cox to be in the chair. I get the feeling that Dean Cox will wait till after the grand final, though, if he thinks he's the number one man. I think he'll miss the gig. He'll miss the gig, then. West Coast made a quicker placement than that. Oh, great. It's a great set up at Sydney if he is to take over, and I had him for a year there, and he is a very good coach. But boys, we've got to ask, because we've got Josh Carr over here at Port Adelaide. Surely, and these guys have been away from the club, so their IP will be great if they came in as a senior coach, but surely they have to look a little bit more externally outside of just players that play for West Coast. Ben Cousins is on the selection panel, and he doesn't like Josh Carr, and there's a lot of bad luck there, and Josh doesn't like West Coast at all. Look, I agree. I agree. I think they will. And they will. Their net has to go wide. Josh is an unsettled being, though, isn't he? He comes and goes. He comes and goes as a player. He's come and gone as a coach. He stays one minute and he gets locked up for COVID for three times in four months. That can happen as a player, though. It's just you have to go. Oh, of course you do. You go where you're sat. It's not a hold of that against you. So look, I agree. I agree. Josh Carr certainly name his name. He mentioned. I think the field is pretty narrow. I don't think Chris Scott has to be called, has to be called, because they've got to find out where he sits with Gelong's future. He has lived in WA. Of course he was at Fremen or for a couple of years. That's the other argument. With the position that West Coast are in right now, where their list is, do they need an untried coach? Do they try and get the Craig McCrae, or the Bevoe when he got to the doggies, was fresh and brand spanking, or do they need someone like Chris Scott who's been there, done that, has got the hard head and will make really brutal calls. So it's whatever rain they pull, absolutely, but pre-tasmonia company and has to be the right one. So just before we let you go, boys, how much of a say will Harley Reid have on this? Because you talk about the list. He's the most important player there for the future of the Eagles. He needs to get along with the coach. So does he actually have a voice in this, you think? I'd call me a dinosaur, but hopefully none, because at the end of the day, he's a player and you do as the coach tells you to do. But we know they're a different breed now. They're a different breed and they have empowerment and they all have buy-in and that sort of thing. So listen, I'd expect if the Eagles are going on the right way that Harley Reid would have no saying whatsoever. He put a post on Instagram last night couldn't take this bloke enough for what he has done in the short time of my career, one of the greatest to ever do it and has to put up with so much crap and a love heart. So that was really nice from Harley Reid. And there was a bit of talk about yesterday when Adam Simpson walked into his press conference that he made a comment towards Bailey Williams and Harley Reid walking in. A lot of people interpreted it as though he said, "Oh, you've had your say." So everyone thought, "Oh, but he actually said to Harley Reid, 'You have to shave because he's got a bad restucker going on over the moment.' So I can guarantee you that there's a lot of love between the two. Bottom line, it's I think Harley Reid's important to the system, but I don't think Harley Reid will have a single word to say about who coaches a football club, no tail wagging the dog here. Yeah, I tend to agree with that. Last one from me, boys, is for the new coach coming in, the coaches that are applying for the job, how long is the rebuild realistically for them to actually explain that, hey, we're still a couple of years away before we really kind of pulled back up the ladder. Well, you got to sack 15 blocks first. That's the start. Yum. That's the problem. Their list is horrid. It's not a good list. And there's a lot of blokes who've made a lot of noises about getting games or not getting games. They're now going to walk the walk, you've got to talk the talk, all that. You've got to be that. For the next seven weeks, there's a few blokes planned for their careers. And Adam Simpson said this last week, last Friday, there'll be 10 blokes here that will be delisted. So they're probably making a lot of noise behind the scenes. I think it's been conservative. You probably can't get rid of 15, but I think there's 15 on the list that we'll be looking over the shoulder right now. This rebuild has to restart. Has to restart now. I think it's a four or five year rebuild. We've loved your time, boys. Thank you so much. You can head back to bed now before jumping on the radio from Essie and WA-T. Gossage Scott Cummings. And well done on breaking that story as well, Goss. We love you over here in Essie and you know we love you too, Scotty. So thanks for your time.
