The Ox is here for Sonos, multi-room listening, wireless home theatre and more. G'day Ox. - G'day, gosh, Scotty, are we being positive again today, or can we go wack? - Yo, the knuckle. - Oh, good. - Neshed, we'll be out of a comfort zone last week. (laughing) - I first thought before we hit you with the serious stuff. Jeremy McGovern, he's got some ribs and a lung, maybe he's stayed in Melbourne overnight with his. - Week, week, Scotty, week, week. - When he's got a split split, he's hit himself. Trying to be as tough as the trucker, is he? (laughing) Not good. Not good. - I made on a serious note, Goss has run with him, believes that Adam Simpson will be told today that he's no longer required. Now, you've played for Melbourne, so you would have been in this position a couple of times. I've been seeing the coaches come and go. Where you see West Coast out in the way they're playing at the moment, is this the right call to be made right now? - Well, Scotty, I remember vividly when John Naughty got the bullets. And, oh, what was it, it was about 90, for more than 90, more than 92, she was 92. And one gets where I was, Scotty, when I found out that John Naughty was gone. - In the car? - I was on little ball of spare at Mount Buller, skiing. (laughing) - It came across things on all these points, Zach. So, it's never a good time when you're a player. Because at any one time at any footy club, you'll know this. There are 10 players that love the coach that are in, you know, just, they're in these good books. There's 20 players that couldn't give a raps who are just good players and they know they're safe. And then there'd be 10 nervous players knowing that if he goes, I'm in trouble because he's probably protected me and the former's have been up to scratch. So, there'd be a lot of nervous West Coast Eagles players at the moment. Yeah, look, he's had a long time, hasn't he? I think he's had enough. Their form is flaking your best. They're good. And I think they show it against Melbourne when they get going, they're actually okay. But something's not clicking there. So, unfortunately, the semi's had a really good run out of it. But sometimes, you know, everyone gets a sack eventually unless you pull roost. Everyone gets the sack. So, you just gotta accept it. There's only two types of coaches, ones that have been sacked and ones that will be at some stage. But the thing is, you know, I said that when you look at teams like Port Adelaide, when Kenny Inkley's under pressure, they sort of respond. When Luke Beveridge has been under pressure, the Bulldogs have responded. But they, the whole talk last week was how West Coast are gonna respond. They're gonna respond against Melbourne after their performance against Hawthorne. And then they go out there and have seven kicked on them in the first. That's not a response. - No, it wasn't. It was poor though, they got obliterated. Yeah, they showed a little bit in the second, third and fourth quarters. But the damage was done and it was over. I just hope, Gus, now Gus, when you make big calls, you gotta wear the brunt of it for the next seven days. And I can promise you now, I wore the brunt of it last week after Dustin Martin. So, I hope you're ready to go with it. I hope you're ready to just get what comes your way. All I've done is state what I know and the I know that there is a board meeting today and it's not an extraordinary board meeting. It is the planned board meeting that Adam Simpson's tenure is on the agenda. And if the board decide today that he is not the coach next year, then that decision will be made today. And therefore, one would imagine Adam Simpson will go effective immediately. That is my information. - Yeah. So that's all you do. You just go with what you've been told and away you go. And the truth will set us free. - Yeah, why don't you wait last week after your Dusty, who means, and it wasn't 98, 99. - You've got back to Beckonash, huh? - You've got back to Beckonash, huh? - You've got back to Beckonash, huh? - You've got back to Beckonash. - We love having you on, mate, you're the best. - The trucker, Dusty, you've heard. - Yeah, well, I didn't get death threats, but I certainly got some strong feedback. I thought I was actually a good bloke and I thought that people like me. It's not true, don't they? No, they don't like me. - Beckon, Beckon, Beckon, men's, other boys. - Oh, goodness, me, I'd have a good outlook in the mirror, but no, I'm okay, I'm okay. Well, no one's denied it other than that of me. So, and the coach has to deny it. So, although I'll stick with it for now and we'll see how we go. I'm still 100%, so, we'll be right. - Absolutely, mate, stick with the watching. Hey, we disappointed to see Carlton's run coming to an end there with their loss to the AWS. - Oh, I was calling it first year. And I said to my fellow callers, Joe and John, at quarter time, I said, there'll be nothing sweeter than any GWs get back into this, David. 39 points there, 36 points up. It was an amazing game. And I think that's what he's at the moment. He can swing so quickly. The 66 will just, you know, enable sides to get a run on. And momentum has probably never been bigger in the game as I've felt. So, I'm really liking the footy at the moment. Loving how sides can get a big run on and score quickly. But, yeah, for Calvin to go down. It wasn't, it wasn't my saddle. It's not a kind of drive home. Just in a really good mood. Scotty, you know, just driving down the freeway and just wandering life and thinking, this is beautiful. - All righty, do you see any resemblance to your own style, to that of Josh Tracy at the Fremantle Football Club? - Not really. We all got like, I really like Josh. I think when you gotta play the presence of the footy competes like he does, they're rare because he keeps coming up and over it. And Scotty, you would have watched him pretty more closer than I had been. - Yeah, I mean. - He keeps running position right. He gets the running positions right and he hits the contest. And that's what you want from the big fellas. And then the goals will come and, you know, we have a plan that we get the full contest recorded, you know, full good marking contest score. That's 16 for the game. If you get to that, you're gonna be a little fellas into it and then you're gonna grab a couple. So, now his improvement, his curve is beautiful. It's, it's exactly what I think Fremantle needed. They were kind of looking, you know, how they're gonna have a britjection and then when you get someone like that standing up and performing, you go, yeah, that's a bonus. So, he's good and he's gonna get better. And I think that's exciting for Fremantle supporters. - I think Goss is right. There are some comparisons too. I've compared his work rate to Nick Rewals, but his love of the contest and the physicality of it as well is very similar to you. But one of the most important things and what you mentioned there is he gets his starting position right, but his relationship with his midfielders too. They're all on the same page now. So, he doesn't actually need to move until the ball's kicked because they know where he's going to be. And he has that relationship now, which is just outstanding. - Isn't it amazing too, when you start finding a bit of form, how the ball just seems to be attracted to you? You know, we're seeing it with Waterman. We're seeing it with, you know, when forward start hitting their straps, everybody looks up and they just see that player. And then they work it out of training pretty quickly and then that continues on into the game. And, you know, he's got the confidence of his teammates. And I think that's the key to actually getting more footy coming your way. I don't know what the numbers would say, but I would say that they're going to him a third of the time when they're going into it. - Last two weeks Sydney have lost. Carlton lost. Free manager are in form. Essendon are up and down. Geelonger up and down. Porter up and down. Brisbane are coming. GWS look like they're coming. And then you go Collingwood, Melbourne, Bulldog, Gold Coast, who are up and down. It is so hard. If you had to find four teams to get to preliminary final week on what you've seen so far with seven rounds to go, give me the four teams. Yeah, I definitely Sydney. They're okay. So they're fine. You know, they've lost three games of a total of eight points. So they're going to be okay. Carlton, 100% will be there. They've got the firepower and they've got the midfield. And as long as we're doing stays fit, they're okay. So let's lock those two in as absolute givens. I'm going to say if Peter breaks my heart, if they beat Melbourne, if they beat Melbourne Friday night, I said they're not, they're going to be in the top four. So it's a huge game for them. It's a huge game for the Dees as well. So we can either close the gap or the gap board. And so I think to get some more get Melbourne, so they don't know why, but I've just got this feeling that they're a mungal side. They just seem, oh, I hate them. Anyway, they are getting excellent. And let's take Brisbane. I think Brisbane's run home. He's going to ensure that they're going to win enough games to just certainly be there. And you talk about firepower, and you talk about going through the midfield. You know, lucky me, I was probably going to win another Brown-O. Does that hurt three men of supporters still? Or are we content with losing lucky in the picks that we got for him? Well, no, but he was out. He was trying to get back. I don't remember. Yeah. So he was desperate to come home. But he sort of got exposed. Ryan Daniels from Channel 7 exposed him for the story. And he had to go back, Cap and Andrew Brisbane. We have this conversation about Devon Robinson. Devon Robinson, who was out the door last year, went back to the club the day after the club champion, got talked out into staying in Brisbane, now can't get a game. And look at West Coast. Yeah, it is, you know, it's fighting doors. And, you know, you've got to pick your moments and you've got to find your form. And, you know, sometimes another play comes along. And that's why, that's why the very good players, is no surprise that the stars of the competition are flying now. Right, round 15 to round 90, it's really hard. It's hard on the body. We're seeing, you know, crypts is flying. We're seeing lucky meal fly. Clayton Oliver is actually starting to find some form again. All the really good players that have done a ton of pre-seasons, they just get better and better as he goes on, where the younger players, they drop off a bit. You know, Harley, it's been a big long year for him. You know, his form's not nearly what it was. But, first year player, we can obviously give him, you know, we can cut him with a few bit of slack. So, this is where the good players keep going. When it's really hard and the season's been long and lack of recovery and six-day breaks and the buyers are finished now, this is where you will see all the really good players that have done a ton of work, they get the rewards. I was thinking he's going to challenge his, well, I think they called it a high fend off. I saw a swinging under the face, but more, more, something differently. Any chance, do you give him any chance at all of getting off? None, none, none. So, they'll just lose 10 grand. And, but, you know, if he's my player, I'd be fine for him, too, because, you know, every accolade he's got and we know what he's, who knows, and he's not a dirty player. He just got it wrong. So, that's okay. You're a couple of week and you move on. So, he's not the first player that's been a brand like Faber to get reported this week. So, you'll deal with it, though. There's no way, there is no way in hell that he gets off that. There is no way whatsoever. No matter how good his lawyer is, you can have tennis to noodle. He's not getting off that one week. - He's a really good bloke, though. - Oh, you know, the good bloke factor now. Yeah, so, well, maybe he might get off on the good bloke factor. And he's a good looking rooster, and he's looking up boy, the city swans. And if he goes in without his shirt on which he does regularly, he might be a champ. - I just don't think it was intentional. I don't think it was intentional. - It doesn't matter. - Well, that's what he's been charged with. - But it wasn't written for that, boss. - He's been charged with intention. - But it wasn't written for that. - But it was an accidents happen on the football field. And for me... - Yeah, but accidents happen on the road, too. 'Cause, but if you run from over and kill them, you're going to be charged with manslaughter. That's the rule. Sometimes, that's happened. You got to wear the consequences. - He has done that fend off style. 10 times again. - You can possibly be. - Okay, so if you don't listen to him again, he breaks 10 notes as he's unacceptable. - No, but that's what I'm saying. He does it 10 times, he breaks one nose. And all of a sudden, it's an intentional act. - No, you can't do that, Goss. - Oh, so one, so it's only a one-gate, Goss. One-gate. Please, come on. Come on. If you break someone's nose, if you fend off and it's an accident, you don't know he's there, it's still your responsibility. It's behind the play, it's to give them a chance. - It wasn't behind the play. He was the next man on the... He was the next man in the league. - No, the ball, yeah, but the ball wasn't in the vicinity. - Well, that's not behind the play. It's coming his way. - It's right. - No, but it's still, it's considered behind the play because it's not where the ball is. And they changed the rule specifically for that reason. If you fend off and you cause injury, you're gonna be accountable. A lot of people don't mean to bump and hit them in the head, but they do. And they couple of weeks. - That's what Jesse Hogan punch a guy on head. - Yeah, that was different, yeah. - Anyway. - Can we talk about Jesse? Can I just talk about... - Yeah, go ahead. - It's an amazing, it's an amazing redemption story 'cause his lifestyle of Melbourne was no good. His lifestyle of Fremantle was no good. And he's now the pennies dropped and all credit to him because I think most of us in the footy world it was thought that we'd lost a really good talent and he'd underperformed, but what he's delivering, what under Jesse and what under the crew that have got him going. 'Cause I think he needs a fair bit of importance. - That's maximum coaching votes on the weekend for Jesse Hogan too. Are they back in business and what you saw? I know it's one game. They've been poor for a large part of it, GWS, but are they back in town like Brisbane or back in town? - Yeah, they are because they've got the little fellas that are actually starting to get their hands on the footy. When Bedford and Daniels and the like are starting, and Jones, oh, he's a good little player once. You know, those little fellas, and once they get their handball going, I still think their handball game is as good as anyone in the competition. So it'd be dangerous. Well, you're gonna have to beat GWS now. They're not gonna roll over like they did, you know, four weeks ago. - All righty, now we're being a Tuesday morning. You've got to do your tips very early 'cause this is a weekend. - I'm good at this. - I know you've got to go full last week. - You've got four, that was good. Hamish payer was down on Monday. - I get to do him on a Friday and go four, mate. (laughing) - I tipped after the round and got an oiling. Righty, oh. Colling with Gee Long, MCG Friday night. - Geelong, Geelong, I think we talk about the stronger bodies. I think Collingwood's hunger is not there. So the cats for me. - Yeah, they go on the positive, isn't it, nice. Hawthorne, Fremantle in Tassie. - Yeah, this will be, I think the game of the round. Gee, I haven't been a believer in Hawthorne. I'm not a believer. I watched them pretty closely on said data. I would be supporting it. I think they'll bounce back and they'll be a Fremantle. - And Joe put a little bit of it in the run. So Hawthorne for mine. I can't believe I'm saying it. - Sydney are hosting North Melbourne at the SCG. This will be a bloodbath. This could be Sydney by long way. They're going to be very, very angry. Very, very angry, Goss. - The unreliable Bulldogs take on the Blues. Marvel. - Yeah, give me the Blues. Oh, I can't trust, I can't trust the Wilson Bulldogs. Northern will be out. Who's the other one? They lost another player as well. Cody Waipman, you see back? - Oh, I don't know yet. I don't know. - Oh, come on. You got your finger on the pulse. I'll say the Blues. Say the Blues. Adelaide's secured a 15th versus 4-8. - Yeah, Adelaide wins this. They'll win. They're actually good against Brisbane. And they've seen the match-up really well against Brisbane. No, what's his name's out before weeks? I don't know which is not a good thing. - Rankin. - I say Rankin. - Rankin. - There you go. - I'm standing in the road in Woudongo. I've got leaking rooms everywhere. I'm not a trade. I've got, I don't see that happening everywhere. (laughing) So I've got Rankin out. I'll say the Adelaide Crowns. - Yeah, alrighty. Melbourne Essington. (laughing) - Oh, this is the, these, they're back. They are back in a big way. They are back in a big way. And also, I'm going to tell you this. I'm going to tell you this. If they win this game, they'll make the top four. - Right, they're Rockwinds, yeah, what's his name? (laughing) - True, they're Rockwinds. - Go on, amazing. Go on mate. - He's gone. - He's gone. - What do you mean, Max? He's only got a little twisted ankle. (laughing) - Yeah, he's gone. Two or three weeks. Two or three. Two or three. Two or three. - You're joking. - Put a mattress on it and cover it up. - Alright, alright, alright. If them win easily. (laughing) - Gold Coast Port Adelaide. - Gold Coast, up there, unbeatable. - Richmond Giants MCG. - Uh, Giants, Giants will win that, but they'll be closer than what people think. - West Coast Brisbane, Perth. - Keep in mind if they let go of the coast today, you know what happens, you know what happens the week after. - I'm going to say West Coast. - I'm going to say West Coast in the upset of the month. - Yeah, get back on the roof. See you later. Thanks for joining us. - I love you too. I really do love you. - We do too. - We do too. AFL Nation Melbourne Champion Davidsworth. Gotta love him tradesmen, not.
