(upbeat music) (upbeat music) Morning everyone, four par six, talk your depot studio for the next two hours. Thanks to the team that's on us. Give us a call 131255. Text us on 0487736736. Temperate bed shed, text line? Well, come in. Or bring coffee. Morning Scotty. - Hey buddy, how you going? - Good. Grab 24 chicken McNuggets for $9.95, get more for your money, add Mackers. - Okay. (laughing) - I avoided the supermarket yesterday. I refuse to go a new one. See, if I go, I'm walking out with Pinot M&Ms, with Cheesels, with barbecue shapes, I'd just stay away. - It was a bit like that, it was a bit like that. Hey, looking forward to our show today. We worked for those who are female Dockers fans. We were, and let's just declare a hand right here, right now. We were hoping to speak to Corey Wagner, but Corey's busy and he can't do his interview with us today. He's got something else that he's prioritising. And that's fair enough. That's fair enough. - Might be important. - Part-time footballer, so he's only going to do part-time media. (laughing) - Yeah, Corey, you don't get away with that? - No, Corey, don't stitch us out, little fella. All righty, anyway, we're here for you first. We'll be here for you last. All righty. - Oh, that one. That one. I hope he's going through a banner for a hundred games, and you say, "Oh, I'm going to be a fourth good one." - Yeah, that didn't go down well with all my Fraser Geary. But we are, so I'm just going to think through who we have got. We've got James Sully Sullivan talking about your leg. We always love Sully coming on. After seven o'clock, we've got something a little bit different. It's not blind rankings, it's as, thanks to Matabo, celebrating 100 years of German innovation. We're coming up with weird sporting names across the board. So if you've got a weird sporting name, the temporary bed-shed text line, 04877367636, or give us a call, talkie-depo open line, 131255. - I'm just going to, I'm saying sorry now to you. I know you like the show to be high-brower. A lot of the time, not all the time, but I just can't help you today. - What do you mean? - Well, I haven't gone a high-brow approach. - So whatever you're gone. - Well, he's gone blue. You haven't gone blue. - No, I stopped. - Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. - Hang on, Scott, Scott, Scott. - It's their name. - Scott, the last time we went down this, you went down this line, it ended badly. - Oh, you're sorry, sorry. - Oh, no, I haven't gone there. - Well, no, no, it's not far off. - No, no, no, no, no, no. - This is not spontaneous, you've had time to prepare. - Well, not a lot. It takes me my bedtime last night. - Oh, you've got no problem going out for mid-week dinner, so you've got time to do some homework. What'd you do last night? - Eh, I went to bed. - No mid-week dinner. - So, all right, Jared Healy's going to join us too. Jared Healy, the doctors are coming faster than most expected. - And he loves them. He's very co-hoop. I want to ask him the question, who he thinks is closer to a premiership. - Can I just keep dishing it up there? Until that one one, I am correct. - Yeah, nope. - Yeah. - Yes, yes. I'm 100% correct until they're generically the comment is. - That's so am I. - Correct, female are closer, 100%. - That's a win-win. - But you can be as close as you like, but until you get one, it means naphor. I had someone message me last night, so if you've got Jared Healy on after we put out on socials, that he was coming on the show. And someone said, "Do you want to remind Jared "for the conversation you had moons ago, "where Jared Healy declared, "after I said I wouldn't lose too much sleep "over, female losing Adam Chera." And Jared said, "Chera will be an all Australian "and a future Brownland medalist." And I can't recall that. I sort of do like to remember things. So people remember what we say on air. - Oh yeah. - Wow. - Yeah. - That's a worry. I forget when I leave the studio. - Jared, he is going to join us. - Until I get home. Do you think that went down okay? What which bit? - And we're going to drill down thanks to Toolkit Depot, the ultimate range of trade. Till we're drilling down about Jake Waterman. And we touched on it yesterday. We had a calling for Paul Pios. He contacted us after the show to say sorry. He was busy trying to do a deal for Jake to get him to Collinwood. But he... (laughing) So Paul Pios, his Jake Waterman's manager. - I'm loving you. You should look good in black and white, wouldn't you? And good would he look? - Well, he won't be going there. - Why not? - He won't be going there. He won't be going anywhere. So just Paul Pios will join us. - So we're just going to ask Pudo, which journalist did he go to first to get this started? Is that what we're suggesting? - That's normally the way we go. That's the Collin Young. - Well, ask him. - Now, the boys from Getable, have a listen to this. So this was Kyle Toomey with Riley Beveridge on Getable, because we've spoken about, Tom Barris has come out and said, "I'm a one club player unless they pull the run from under me "on the gun anyway." Have a listen to this on their podcast Getable yesterday. - He's one of the best key defenders. The Bulldogs are coming hard though. My understanding is that the deal is worth more than $3 million. Over a long period of time there, he's still got the Eagles for three more years on his contract at the moment. They're in discussions on extending that as well. Still in play, and the dogs have to be ready there if he does decide to look at his options at the end of the year. Colin would no longer in that mix. - Okay, so that's not going away, despite the fact that Tom was pretty firm to say, "I've got no intention of going." - It looked him in the eyes, and as I've said to a couple of people who have run from over east, he's either the greatest actor of all time or he's not going anywhere. So there it is, that's killed to me. - What was there three million over a long period of time? - What was there a long period of time? - I'll imagine it would be five 'cause he's got three and eight. - It's not nearly a year. - Okay? - 600 a year. - That's not very much, is it? - No. - Well, there's a lot of money in the world, but it's for footballers. - Oh, I'd take it. - Why do you, is it the back end of his age by then? He'll be 34. - Yep. - You know? And if you plant the dogs, you're gonna be busy. - Yeah. (laughs) - Possibly. - Possibly. - But mind you, don't busy them what the hour was. - Exactly right. 600 a year, he's probably not gonna pry him out, is it? Take a pay cut to move to Footscray. - Yeah. Yeah, nah. (laughs) - Yeah, nah. - They trade on Footscray, man. That's not to me, but actually wouldn't be living there, no disrespect. And I don't wanna, I don't wanna come in on a... - A long way from Pivmin Grove, Footscray. - Thursday morning, very true. I don't wanna come in on a Thursday morning and give you the I told you so. - Oh, I thought you were just gonna leave it at that. I don't wanna come in a Thursday morning. - There's a bit of I told you so in this. - Told me so? - So a part of Twitter, and me being dashed from killer to post, was when I posted last year that Devin Robinson was indicating that he was coming back to WA. - Yeah, that flipped quickly. He did a backflip in the meeting with the club. - And people said, "Oh, you're only saying that "because you got it wrong that he was never leaving." Well, I can take it to the bank. Take it, take it to the bank he was leaving. - I don't think that's just what people said. Is it some real nasty stuff to you? - That's okay. 'Cause now I don't read it, so I don't care. - Yeah. Oh, you've changed, man. What? - Nine, nine, nine. - Nine, nine. Well done. 'Cause you've got the overs. A lot of people went with Twitter. - Yeah, Cam, Cam Luke went to Twitter. - Oh, on its hand track. It was, don't worry, I'll let him know yesterday. - It's eight days. Say sorry. - Yeah. So, so, so Devin Robinson, after the club champion at Brisbane, walked in and absolutely taken to the bank, the Devin Robinson's intention of going in was to say I'm leaving. Now, I can tell you the club officials at the club champion the night before had certainly got the indication that he was leaving and they expected that to be the topic of conversation. - Correct. - He was talked out of it. - Someone got to him. - And he stayed. - So why do you bring him to something now? - Because this is what Mitch Cleary said last night on Talking Footy. - Devin Robinson had options last year to move back to the Eagles. He stayed at Brisbane on a two-year deal. He played in the grand final last year, but he can't get in right now. Last six weeks, he's been in the VFL. They've got Levi Ashcroft to come in as a father son. They've got another Academy player, Sam Marshall. They may well need points to go to the draft with the new system to top up and go to the draft with those guys. So he's one to watch at the end of this season because he can't get in right now. They've got more talent still to come in the door as well. - It was a horrible decision by him. In hindsight, horrible decision. - For what reason? - Well, only he's not in the team. He's not playing right now, which is the number one important thing. And the second thing is, he could have come over here last year on a really big contract. A lot of coin. He's cost himself a lot of money. Which, but I said, there's the important-- - It's lost the power, hasn't he, really? - Well, yeah, he's contracted now. Did he sign for two? - Yeah. - So he's contracted. So they don't have to get rid of him. But now he's wanting to go. - So whoever takes him's going to have to take him up on the current deal for one year. - We should probably be half of what he would have got. - Is he what West Coast need? As much as, okay, this is... So there's a lot of West Coast Eagles fans who just think straight away. Oh, we've got to get expats back to W1. Liam Bay, Kachad Warner, just because they're expats. Does he fit anything that West Coast need? Because we haven't seen him play for six weeks. - Yeah, well then, six weeks, six months. - Yeah. - I think, if you were asked to grade him right now, would he be a B-minus or below? - Where does he get in? I mean, he's going to get into the Eagles team because they're going to be some departures. That's clear. But is he better than some of those kids that are playing in the waffle and can't get a game? - Oh, you'd probably think so. Because we don't know if those kids are any good because they won't play them. Remarkable, but you'd think so. But as I said though, he's a B-minus, maybe C-plus at the moment. And we're being really materialistic, I guess, in the fact that if he sure didn't come off, would we know that much about him? He got a lot of attention when he's done with that rep and he built like a donus. He got an enormous amount of attention from that and had a good game or whatever it was. But if you can't get into a side that up until three or four weeks ago, has been really struggling. - Yep. - And struggling around the middle of the ground, he loses a lot of currency. - Yes, card's been marked, isn't it? It looks that way. From our us looking up in Brisbane, it looks like he's completely on the outer. - But you know what, a year like this, where it might have been a wake up, I'm not, I don't know, Devan Robinson, right? - No, no. - And it might be a wake up call to him on how hard he's got to work or maybe he got ahead of himself. I don't know any of these things. I'm just throwing him out there. It might be the wake up call he might get to a new club and he might absolutely love the freshen up and be a... - And coming home. - B-plus, A-minus for a top player. - If he comes home, yeah. - If he does come back to the way. - Throwing 1255 048773673610, I love to him. He's vague, long period. Must be a good source. Nice work by you. - If the dogs drive up the price, it stops the eagles offering a big deal for English. It is a bit of a to and fro. - But that's Time Barris, he's already contracted. - Yeah, so that's not going to change anything. - So it doesn't change too much. - No, don't have to. - But I understand that. - But they don't have to move on a Tom Barris extension. - No. - At all. - No, they don't. - Throwing 1255 048773636. We had David Schwartz on our show the other day and he said this about... - Oh, doesn't this go on across Australia? - Dusty Martin in regards to his future? - I'll give you 100%. And this is a 98% or 97% Scotty. - Oh. - 100% Dusty Martin will be playing at the Gold Coast next year for a two year contract. - Are we taking that to the bank? - You're taking the bank. Just put it in the bank right now and just collect the interest. - Wow. This is what Damien Hardwick had to say about Damien Martin. - Oh, look, Dustin's a contracted player at Richmond. So that's obviously for Dustin to decide and Richmond to work their way through. Look, he's a really, really good player. There's no doubt about that. And every single club would be crazy if they didn't sit there and at some stage make an assessment. But what I do know is a required Richmond player at the moment and that's up to them to make that call. - I guess the question is, do you even need him on the team or is it this good enough now? - Well, I'll probably like 17 other clubs. We're always looking for good players and, you know, Gold Coast has no different than those as every other club. So, you know, those least management calls will get made, you know, towards the back end of the year. - Dustin Martin, what do I mean? - Interesting. He doesn't dispel it. He still thinks there's some currency and there's some something left in the tank. He doesn't look like it though to me. - No, no, because he sets such a high standard in the past. - But the kid's calm, Scotty, doesn't he? - Absolutely, absolutely Father Tom's undefeated. Yeah, it's absolutely spot on the money. But what he would bring to a group as far as experience and respect and levels of professionalism and training, that'd be massive, but it's very, very hard. If you're finding for a spot in the eight and trying to find your relevance in football, well, at least the club is probably the wrong word. But is he going to contribute on the field? That's where you get most of your benefit. But there's no doubt. I mean, if I'm Gold Coast and I can get him for two, if he wants to get into mentorship or coaching, I'm not sure he does, then I'll be grabbing him. Why wouldn't Dusty Martin come out now if he's rusted on 300-game, huh? Three-time Norm Smith medalist, premiership player, Brownlow medalist. Why wouldn't he just come out now as a homestan at Richmond? - She doesn't speak to anyone about anything. That's just the Dusty way. He has none, nobody's business but mine. And I agree that would appease a lot of people, but he's never been into appeasing people. And Dusty's Dusty-- - You've had to appease the football club that has held firm with you and threw all the firm that he's caused off. - No, he hasn't caused too much. - No, him, hey. - When you look back at him, he hasn't caused off all along. - Dusty Martin has caused enough. They've allowed him to do a lot. - Ew. - They've given him free, well, yeah, but you know, what goes wrong? - None of them horribly wrong, they're not forgetting stuff. - No, no, no, no, no, not to the point of, you know, Jordan De Goe form, but-- - No, no, you bring Jordan into this. - Wow. - You leave him alone. - You leave him alone. - He's in the leg of his own, Jordan De Goe. So, look, I just think the club has stood by Dusty over a long period of time. They're at through personal. You know, just the odd thing that, you know, but I agree, no one's questioning his ability and his dedication to the sport. You don't play 300 games at that level. - No. - It can't go a bit. - But he does look. As I said, he has said such an enormously higher standard that when you don't live up to it, the expectation, or not the expectation, the comments come from outside that he's done. I think he still wants probably something to offer. - Okay. - Plenty of text coming in. Devon Robinson, blokes like Bruce Revel and Logan Morris have gone past him. So, it's poor. - He's a good copo. - Hi, Gros and Scotty. Why can't Butzlinger get a game? He's just not good enough. So, I tend to get the guy who grained your baris. I mean, we... - That's something you got injured last year, didn't you? - Yeah. - And now he's struggling to come back. - Yeah, but if you can't get a game ahead of Alex Keith, who, no disrespect, but Alex Keith is a walker down back. - He's Adam Tomlinson, I thought Alex Keith is a really dope, right? - No, no, no. - It's solid. No, it's solid. - Every money plays football is solid, but I thought you've got to be better. - Nah, it's some real duds out there. - Yeah, Scotty, Scotty. I was driving up from Hall's head yesterday. - I can't. - I've been down here and I tell me about it. - Right. - What do I do? It's moving in that way. - God. - You've been counting the agent to the stars down in the southern suburbs. - Anyway. I was driving back and it was after six o'clock, I think it was. - Busy, home open? - Yeah, yep, yep. Anyway, I came back. Wait. Anyway, here people say, oh, they've got to play Clay Hall and they've got to play Zane Tru and they've got to, and it's the same voices you hear on Talkback Radio, wherever whatever station it may be. Can I just say to all the people, you're included? - No, I'm not going to be included. - Wait. - Oh, listen. - Wait. Well, I hope you don't, don't get angry. Right? All these people that lay claim to being selectors and how they, all these kids should be playing for the West Coast Eagles. How many of them have actually gone and watched the West Coast fall full time? Because they're getting crowds of 300. 400. 500. - 500. - 150 a star. - Not 150 a star and the players who tick through as well. - And I think they're counting people taking their dose for a walk past the study. So just rely, just be careful what you wish for. You keep making out, oh, you've got to play Clay Hall, based on what, stats? - The fact we've got to see them. We've got to see them play. You want to know what you got? Clay Hall was in discussions for round one. Got injured and has not been seen since. - Okay, so what do we know about Clay Hall since then? - Die, it's a star. - Yeah, exactly. - It's the future. - But why do we know about how Clay Hall is training, conducting himself, life? How do we not know any of this? Why are we just going? And this is what people are basing their selection policies on. - I understand your point. - Waffle stats. That's what they're going to go. And they're starting to get a self-fulfilling prophecy. Oh, we've got to play all these kids. I have opinions. Zain true is not good enough to play at the AFL level. That's just my opinion. I think we've seen enough of it. Whether it's one quarter, half a quarter, one game. - Wow. - I don't think Zain true has brings anything more than any of the kids that are in there at the moment. - How do you know? You haven't seen him recently. - I've seen him play AFL. - A game. How many games did he play? - Half a dozen. Not many. - Not many full games did he play? - Probably four. But it's only a small sample size. But the AFL, you don't give games to the AFL kids because you want to see how good they are at that level. That's not what it's about. It's dominating at the waffle level. It's dominating. - It's a big jump up. - And Clay Hall is getting 29 touches in a team that predominantly gets beaten by 10 goals. So that's tough going. And I know he finds the footy and I get all that. But how do we know how effective he is? How do we know how disciplined he is going the other way? Don't just all sit there and read stats and go, "Oh Clay Hall, Zane True, Locky Rawlinson." They've played a few kids, Harvey, Johnson, all these kids. They're all beautiful stories and we want to give kids opportunities. I get all that. But let's not get caught up in the momentum of we've just got to play this kids at the AFL level to see how good they are. Their time will come. They've got another year in the waffle. All the first year players play a whole year of it. I just think people start to believe their own, drink their own bathwood in regards to these kids, whether they're good enough. They're not dominating waffle. We don't go to games to make our own judgement. If we all went there for every week, clearly the selectors, clearly the West Coast Eagles coaching staff have KPIs for kids to achieve before they get their opportunities and the Clay Hall and Zane True haven't yet got there. That's just my opinion. - They know better than us. There's no doubt about it. - Correct. - Okay, I understand that. - Correct. - I understand that. But when we're never going to know if they can play, not unless they get played and played properly, played free. Don't just bring a bloke in for his debut and then drop him the next week because he didn't have 20. Give him a sniff. Sometimes it's harder to get a kick in the waffle than it is in your heavily structured team in the AFL where you know everybody's name and you know what they're going to do and you know how they go about their footy. Sometimes it's harder in the waffle to get a kick. Sometimes you're just going to expose people to it to see if they're capable of doing it. And I think where West Coast sit right now, that's what they absolutely should be doing. Give guys a sniff. I'm not saying bring in four and go bang. Let's see what they got because you'll get belted. But bring in one, leave him there for three weeks. And say to that player, you've got, you know, we're going to give you two or three weeks. So they're not panicking when they get out there that they're playing for their life. You can just put them out there. - Zane True played waffle on the weekend. - Yeah. - 33 touches or whatever it was. Played midfield. Didn't lay one tackle. - Yeah, not great. - That's why Zane True ain't getting the game. - But it's hard to lay tackles when you've got the ball in your hands. - Yeah, it was up there, but you didn't. - In the midfield. - The game by six points. - 25 points. - Yeah. So look, again, I guess-- - It was a very good side. - Who'd they play? - This was. - Okay. - 131255 you would have gone and watched them then. - Absolutely. - Zane True and Clay all should be playing. (laughing) - 131255 0487736736. Morning Scotting Goss. West Coast are irrelevant. Let's move on flag mantle. Cheers. Yes, we would love to speak to a flag mantle today. But they're a player who was booked in on Sunday to do the interview is unavailable to take our call at seven o'clock. Sorry. Look, planning and Matthew Allen calls to then get games and how good they were. Do you listen? Never got a night? Correct, John? And never been picked up elsewhere. So sometimes we just don't know. I'm not saying Clay Hall's not gonna play out for football. And everyone tells me Clay Hall's a really nice player. But I just don't think what looking at waffle stats and not actually physically watching them play a body of work of four or five games. We've gotta be very careful getting on air and we'll talk back and call, oh, you gotta play Clay. Oh, and he's better than such and say, well, go and dominate the waffle. I'm not socially going at it. So I watch Campbell Cheser on the weekend. And a couple of messages came through to me in the box. Keep an eye on this player. Campbell Cheser, who's what, one season he was done, third season is? Yeah. All Campbell Cheser did on the weekend and I don't mean this in a really nasty way. Oh, I'm gonna see him succeed. All he was there to do, all he did was guard space in a defensive zone. He got himself in the right defensive zone structure and that was it. But that's all he did. Didn't go to a contest, didn't try and influence the play. He just did his role and stood there. Second year, yep, second year, yep. He's got exactly the same output as-- How many games has he played? He's played 15 this year, played 14 last year. He's almost had identical return. 164 disposals, 163 disposals. He's down on tackles. He's up on-- he's down on clangers. He's one, OK, he's one. Ruben Jimby's another one. So Ruben Jimby, we've got high hopes for Ruben Jimby. And you know, we're having a crack at a couple of young plums. I'm not having a massive crack at it. I'm just saying they've got to do more. Ruben Jimby just chases the ball a lot. Probably had five or six broken tackles. Significantly down on tackle countings. He's about 30 below in two games less. Yeah, and he's-- He's a ball watcher, Ruben Jimby. Yep. And he's used to being able to hunt the footy and win it. But he's not doing that in AFL level. So these guys keep getting games and keep getting playing. Now, I'm not saying he would drop Ruben Jimby, but he needs to improve. And he needs to have a bit of a scale of improvement from what his output is at the moment. You've totally lost the plot. Gossage, of course, they should be playing some of the kids. They should be playing with better players in the AFL West Coast have nothing to lose in the back of the year. So play some kids. You don't just give kids AFL games. You used to have to earn them. That's my point. 27 past six, 9.9 degrees. So we can continue the debate of also-- if you reckon free metal have dodged a ball at this point, you wait till have a crack at them about their naming of their AFLW coach, Captain. 28 past six. We're going to be late for the news. We're going to be late for on this day. We're going to be late for being late. This is Scotty and Goss. [MUSIC PLAYING] No, that's cool. No, what I said about it. No, that's not funny to anyone else. They didn't hear it. Breakfast, power by, Kubota. Take on any Joel Kubota's range of trackers, miles, and utility vehicles. Put your text coming in on a different budget. Text line? No, I've got one, I don't want to read it. Nudge, good on you, nudge. Thank you, nudge. What an untime, I don't want to read it anymore. Totally agree with you on West Coast Eagles' kids, of what some on the TV app. Not one kid says, "Peak me." Thank you very much. I'm not saying they're not going to be good players, but right now, 30 stats in the waffle, no tackles. I ain't going to get it done. One from Ben, just quickly, morning boys. I think people might look at Jack Hutchinson getting a game after 46 seconds of their club and when they had a gun they had to go and play quick. He was informing the VFL. The VFL was better than the waffle. And they got him straight across to the club. He was in four. So he had to go. And he was very close. He wasn't playing for Colliwood. And if he was playing for Colliwood, he'd be getting the game and be a part of a very good team. So, and now he's not getting the game because Oscar Val on his back. So it's horses for courses, sports update. It's a strange pick. No, no, I can see some merit because who knows what's going to happen with Jack Darling? They're going to need forwards, and he's young forwards to take a lot of time. He just needs time in his system. Big up, he would have come across. Sorry for the good. I think he's going to be all right. I think he's going to be all right. Go ahead, Chris. Good morning. Cody Waipman, he's put any speculation about his future to bed. He's resigned here. Where is he going? He's got two dogs at the end of 20, 27. So he was already contracted until the end of 20, 25, but now he's put pen to paper. I wouldn't need to do your deal. My coach came out and supported me like Bevo. Did you in the week brilliant stuff by Bevo? You love Bevo, don't you? I do like Bevo, yeah, yeah. And, you know, I am a big fan. But, well, I'm a fan. Big, strongness. Only Harry, all of a sudden, they start winning games. All of a sudden, Bevo comes out, starts doing the media round. It starts getting a bit bullish again. When he was, when they were winning, he was highly good. No, I'd love to think that he supported him. So, strongly after. No, I agree. I agree. And that's what you want of a coach. So, the girl who's captain. So, the girl who's captain is not playing. She's got the players vote. Yes. Wow. Yeah, let's get into that in a little while. It's round 18. Let's get into Friday night footy at Suncorp as the grand final replay. Bronx, who, without a win since round 11, they're in all sorts of stripes. They'll be desperate to beat the Panthers. Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. That's got in. It's one of those ones where you probably don't want to take the Panthers on when, as you say, they haven't won a game since round 11. And those coming off losses last week, obviously, the Panthers, you know, both sides had origin players out last week, but they're back in this week. So make a big comment for me. Broncos, they've lost through their last four at home, which is unheard of. And the Panthers have won seven of their past eight. I think the Panthers have put... They'll make this into a bit of a tug of war. They'll try and really snuck Rish Walsh and Ezra Marmon, talking about Rish Walsh. It used to be at the Warriors. We're talking rugby league! They say boys! [MUSIC PLAYING] Welcome back. Another hour ahead. Thanks to Sonos. Monty Room, listening, of course, wireless home theatre and a whole lot more experienced game-changing sound with Sonos. All right, we touched on this a little bit earlier. Anne Stannant has been appointed as the captain of the Fremantle Dockers AFLW. She spoke on sports day WA yesterday with a bit of loss. Obviously going to be a pretty unique, one-given, my own personal circumstances with an ACL injury. So the club were really diligent in this process and we as a group wanted to get super clear on what it was or was looking for from our leadership group and whoever that worked out to be. It was a player-led vote and staff vote as well at the club and that happened last week. We then had a bit of a break over the weekend and it was also announced on the Tuesday night that we walked into the club and, yeah, it's an extremely exciting time for the club and the team and there is a little bit of a change, but again, with new spaces come new ideas and hoping new opportunities for our whole group to be able to grow. Congratulations to her. No, 100%. And this is, it's a difficult situation to have an opinion on and not being in the inner sanctum. It's hard. It's another one down the line of why the Eagles aren't playing kids. We don't know. They know more than us. Correct. So, the vote is the vote done by the players in the leadership group. Right? She's not playing this year. Which makes it staggering. Which makes it really hard to get my head around this. Been to the club since 2019, club champion, I think coaches vote or players vote or, you know, whatever, three years, very popular in the playing group, very popular amongst the playing group. Clearly. I don't know how to read this. I think this leads more questions than answers. Absolutely. That's a snub for Haley Miller. She's their captain. She's still there. On field leader. She's the vice captain and she's at the club. She's been out and voted. Forget about who. Congratulations to Ang. Clearly going to do a great job when she's on the field. I'm playing and clearly she's got some great off field leadership potential as well. Clearly the playing group right there is a leader. But I'm probably a glass half empty right here. I'm thinking to myself. Well, if I'm voting for a captain, I'm probably voting for someone who's going to be out on the part with me. That would be the first thing I would do. Yeah. Why not wait till next year? Absolutely. What is Haley Miller not done, not to be captain? Because she's been out voted. She's been out voted by the core group of players that she has been the leader for for the last couple of years. You hope that they have voted on who they think is going to be their best leader rather than a popularity contest? Why not wait another year? I don't know. I've got no answers to this whatsoever. I find it strange. Even by their own admission, she says it's unique. Do you know the difference when you're out there and your captain's out there and your captain's having a good game, lifts everybody. When your captain gets injured, drains everybody. Because your captain has a big influence over you out on the field. And Stannet's quotes on the web site says, in regards to Haley, she's an ultimate professional. She sets the standards and we know what to expect from her. I would love to be able to demonstrate those qualities for this group as well. Why not leave? She's so good. Why not leave Haley in the job? Maybe Haley said it's time for a fresh voice at the top. I don't want to take that responsibility away. I'll be a vice captain and just want to concentrate on my footy. Claire Heffinan runs the AFLW program at Fremantle. Quote, "Even though Ange won't be able to run out on the field on game day, we are confident our vice captains and leaders will fill that role seamlessly to lead our side and support Ange in her off field role as captain." Haley has made it extremely proud as captain and we've seen so much growth both in her leadership and on her personal level over the past two years. We've had Haley in here, she was terrific. The messaging, I'm just not sure what this messaging is. It's Australian. Haley Miller said, sorry. Haley Miller said, "While there were mixed emotions for her personally, she was proud to pass the baton on." So she clearly says. So maybe she hasn't said it's time for me to step down and run. It's a strange one for me that you would vote a player into your captain and see that it's not going to play. It seems weird to me. I'd love to get the girls inside into that. Yep, I'd love to know how this has happened and why it has happened and the timing of it. One, this is not saying Ange then it's not going to be a very good captain for the football club. Ash Brazzle is going to be in the studio tomorrow. So she's also being voted into the leadership. There you go. There we go. Answers tomorrow. There we go. You'll get the best insight into what's going on there tomorrow morning on this show. That's exactly right. Anyway, so if you've got an opinion, there's a lot of people. It will be awkward now that Miller has to captain the side in her rotation as the vice captain. I agree. Who is the game day captain? There's a lot going on here. So yeah, the audience has certainly jumped in on this. I think we all find it a little bit awkward. But hey, do what we to decide. It's strange. Not what we have in our opinion on it. Little bit. ♪ Watch your name ♪ ♪ Little girl ♪ ♪ Watch your name ♪ ♪ Shootin' his face ♪ ♪ Little girl ♪ ♪ Yeah ♪ We're drilling down. Thanks to Toolkit Depot. Uh, the ultimate range of trade tool. We're drilling down the latest on Jake Waterman. This surface courtesy of John Ralph, who said, and I quote, "Melbourne and Geelong have expressed strong interest in Jake Waterman. The Eagles should get cracking because he's very keen to stay, but there's no dealing front of him." He's a free agent next year, and we know, of course, he signed last year off that serious illness. He wasn't sure if he wanted to stay. Let's go straight to the top. Inside 50, manager is Paul Pios. And Paul, of course, is the manager of Jake Waterman and others. Pudo, appreciate your time. Good morning. Good morning, Goss. Morning, Scotty. How are you? We're very, very well. Okay. All right. So you managed Jake Waterman. Um, where's the act in regards to his contract situation at West Coast? Um, we're in negotiations probably the best way to put it with, um, with Maddie down at the, uh, down at the Eagles. Matt Clark, the List Manager. We've had a, had a, had a sit down a couple of weeks ago now, just to discuss his, um, his current fall, um, the deal where we ended up last year was sort of probably filling in a lot of, um, where we got to at the end of last year. And, um, we sort of went away from that with, um, Matt prepared to put some working and, um, come back and present something to Jake that more reflect his current fall. So can you do that, Pudo? You've got a contract until the end of next year. Can you halfway through say, and I, and I might, I hope he gets everything he deserves. I, I love him and I love watching him go about his business. He'd be much sought after by more than two clubs is, you know, over, over the knee. But can you say halfway through a contract? Well, he's playing better than the contract that we've signed. Let's read Jake it, please. Um, but don't think it's, um, something that happens all the time, but it, but it certainly does happen. I think there's ongoing discussions with list managers, you know, probably annually. We sort of review how the, how the players are going and, um, where the, where the club sits in terms of how it's, um, going all the time. So I think there's, there's sort of more of that ongoing. I, I think the situation with, um, with Jake was with, with the new list manager coming into the group, I've done this prior before. There's always a sit down with, uh, who's, who's on the list at the current point in time and, and how that sort of worked through the situation where Jake is a little bit unique. Um, and I think this is pretty much on the table from last year. It was a, was a long extended sort of negotiation and it was, um, was complicated. But obviously with Jake's medical issues late in the year, we've found it pretty difficult to, um, to get, to get to an end point. And, um, I think it's also on the record that, um, there was some fairly in-depth discussions with some other clubs and, um, and they're interested at that point in time. But we settled on something that, um, that Jake found acceptable to be able to move forward. And, and I think that was reflective of, of the situation that he was in at the time. Clearly here we are, um, mid through next year. Um, and Jake's playing a sort of footy that he thought he could play and, um, and he is coming up to, to free agency. The year before free agency, I think a lot of discussions start to happen about, uh, the clubs moving them away from that, that threshold, yeah, or other clubs. Um, seeing that as a little bit of a window over where, um, they can, they can present a case. Yep. So you're trying to strike while the iron's hot and that makes sense. Paul Pios is inside 50 player manager for Jake Waterman, who's out of contract to end the next year, enters free agency. All righty. So how many clubs, Pudu, it's been reported Melbourne and Geelong have expressed interest. Can you tell us if there's more? Um, we'll be a little bit careful here. Gosson, I don't want to put anyone specifically in that last year, there was some, um, there was three clubs that was sort of had some fairly in depth discussion. And, um, and this year followed in and that it started off as, there's more of a follow up in terms of, um, where is he at now? Obviously he's playing good footy. The medical, um, matters that we had concerns with her a little bit behind us. And, um, and it started off with, um, how's anything progressing towards a new and a longer deal towards, um, towards something getting presented a little bit stronger. So how many clubs, how many clubs, how many clubs? Oh, um, I'll say there's three at this point. Okay, do you think you will have a contract from Matt Clark and the West Coast Eagles presented and a contract extension anytime soon? Do you want one anytime soon? Um, look, I think this is going to progress pretty quickly and, and absolutely indicated that it was, um, what was part of his priorities in terms of what was, was sitting in front. I mean, it's always a little bit hard to, um, dig down on, on exact timeframes here, but, um, um, you know, the, the parties, Jake and Eagles are, are working towards finding a solution here. And I, I expect that it'll happen sooner rather later. Last year, Purdue, we had, um, we had Muddy come in. Obviously the great Chris Waterman, who's a, you know, one of the all-time good blokes. Um, and I know that they were a little concerned. Muddy set it on our show. They weren't overly wrapped with the way the Eagles handled Jake's illness last year. And I think it was around, gather around and that's where they'll trip to Adelaide and trip back. Is there any lingering, uh, discontent from that or is, is Jake likely to, uh, you know, want to stay here in Perth? Look, I, I think, I think, um, Jake's family sort of moved on and, and passed those things. Uh, there, there was some, some lingering concern at the time, but, um, I think, I think the support from the club and the medical team and, um, and how Jake sort of, um, responded through that is, um, you know, I think all those matters are, um, are well behind them. Um, I think Jake's in a, in a, you know, we know here where it's a, it's an important on his career. He's been on the, on the list with the Eagles for seven years. He's, um, he's certainly looking at part of the furniture for the future. As we see things he currently is in that age bracket. I think that the, the EU was going to be looking through a future that a lot in his, any sort of age group, um, on the list at this point in time, obviously, get sad a little bit to the younger boys coming through. Um, so I, I think Jake has always wanted to be part of the EU's and I think the EU's always wanted Jake to be, to be part of it. It feels like that's the, the underlying way forward, but, um, all of that sits in and around commercial reality. Well, just before you answered that from Scotty, I'm under the impression that you think that, uh, well, you mentioned that it is a priority one for, for Matt Clark, the, the list manager at West Coast. It feels like you as the player manager for Jake and Jake himself want all this to happen fairly quickly. I think you're closer to, uh, I might be wrong, Purdue. I don't want to, don't, don't want to prove, don't want to be wrong yet. No, very true. 35, 40 year media career. But I'm very close to taking it to the bank that I think a contract will be offered and signed very, very quickly. I think you want all this done so everyone can concentrate on the future at West Coast. I think that's a, I think that's a pretty good summary. I know from, from Jake's end and I understand with list managers, there's, there's always a lot of balls in the air. Um, but certainly from Jake's end, he's pretty keen to, to be able to put something to bed and be able to really focus on the, on the balance a year and the year hit. Give him what he wants. Yeah. Let him start full forward. Is it going to be done by 12 o'clock today? Is that what I'm thinking? If we get off, if we get off here at 10 past eight and there's an announcement, we'll be really pissed off. That definitely won't be happening. Good on you mate. Really appreciate you coming on. So there is some good clarity there from Paul Pios inside 50 player manager. Thanks mate. Appreciate it. Thanks for the chat. Here's a good man. Paul Pios. That was the drill down on Jake Waterman's situation. Thanks to Toolkit Depot. Seen a better price. We'll beat it with our price boost promise. It's in the club's hands. Actually, it's in the club's hands. It's done. It's done. It'll be a revision of the current deal. It'll be a contract extension. That would be nice. It'll be signing with the West Coast Eagles. For a contract extension, probably all told be another contract for three years, plus a fourth because of the current one. It'll be a four year deal or something along those lines. But well done to Paul Pios and we appreciate him coming on. Not a lot of player managers wouldn't spend the hot topic. And we've drilled down right there. Thanks to the inside 50 player manager, Paul Pios. Let's get some userway. Jerry Hill is going to join us next because he's up and about. Like I am, free Mountain's Premiership chances. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Do you tell the vehicles, do you read that the way we said before 730? Yeah, that he really wants to stay, the club want him to stay, and it's just a matter of getting the proper offer on the table. I just, I don't know with free agency coming in, they want to tie these things up beforehand, but to be able to adjust the contract halfway through the good position of being as any player. It's hard to do because of play payments and salary caps, so it's difficult to do. So I'm not so sure they'll be able to change too much of this one for next year. Front end, a big one for the first year of 26. Yep, yep. Possibly. They've got to save some money for someone else, but they'll have a lot of space. I mean, there's 800 coming out of Andrew Gaff. Yep. Dom Sheed. Lovely. Jack Darling. Yep, likely. So they're going to have, they've got some room. But it also depends on who they go after. They're going to save some money. Yeah, they're going to save some food for someone else. And it depends on who they go after in the trade period as well in the off-season. The Baker wouldn't come cheap. Yep. They've got to go after Baker. No doubt, they do. But, you know, Baker's probably, there's Andrew Gaff's money. So, break even there. Thirteen, twelve, fifty-five, zero, four, eight, seven, seven, three, six, seven, three, six. That's a win. Jared Healy had this to say about Fremantle. This is 50 seconds. We're going to take a break. Come back. Jared Healy's going to join us after. Of course, part of SCN's commentary team. Host of Sports Day, Fox 40 as well. Former on the couch host is Jared Healy talking about Freo. It's been a year of some big ups and some horrible downs for the Dockers. But on average, an exciting year of progress. Four weeks ago, I had them as a lock for the finals, to which I received, it's fair to say, a fair bit of pushback on the Tampa text. But their win against Sydney has them now at the forefront of people's thinking, but only as a finalist. But Freo aren't in it just to play finals. They are in it chasing the historic first flag. And if they make the top four, which I think they will, there'll be a very big chance to grab a first and a bit of history. Can they win the flag in 2024? I can't see why not. Will they win it in the next three years? Or you'd be surprised if they don't. They're not easy to win, especially from the West. But boy, history is there to be made by this group of exciting Dockers. Nineteen away from eight. Ten degrees heading for a top of 19. Don't get all the AFL action on SCN AFL Nation. Jared Hilly is a part of that, of course. And he's also a part of Sports Day. Jared, really appreciate your time. Hey, hey. Hey, Boo, today. Who for? Jared, I reckon he was playing on before, once. I don't think we've been lucky enough. Have you ever been on our show before, Jared? Oh, I'm not sure I have. Gosh, it's great to be on. I like the promo. Scotty and Goss are breakers. That's a five-course meal if I've ever seen one. And I might share one with Goss. Oh, no, I think you're breaking on the side. Hey, Jared, you're very bullish about Fremantle. Very bullish. We heard your comments before the break. Why? Well, I ran out of tour. It was actually just before Christmas. I thought probably I'd be the big approvers. But I didn't see them improving to this degree. But ultimately, their list has just showed you impactful Italian. I think David Walz has done an amazing job procuring those guys both from the draft and like Tracy through the rookie selection. I think their games evolved incredibly well there. They're now probably the best attacking shot, particularly from stoppage. Clearly the best stoppage shot in the business. Got one probably four when they lose stoppage. They get scored against pretty heavily. But oh, and oh, I just I just look like that. They just look like they're on this upward tangent where everybody's got their game in order. The games evolved pretty well and they look really exciting today. What about their bad Jared? Are they bad this year has been really, really bad. Is that a concern that the gap between the good and the bad could pop up? I think that's fair. But I don't see it popping up. I think everybody has some stinkers throughout. Particularly when you're on a maturing curve as this group are. And most clubs probably bar Sydney that a stinker or a term. A significant way at the moment be high on Sydney and Carlton. But of the rest, they're clearly in front. I think this group is a curing. I think they can see the big picture. If you've got sort of tactical things like Hagen young going to become a mid forward or a forward mid. And quite doing a tagging role on a brand low middle chance. All these little things are helping. And I think the closer you get the finals and all you see the big picture. The more you're getting a spot about what could be, it could be this year. But I'm certain it could be the next year. They haven't had to dig too far down in their depth list. I know you talked about their list depth. But I'm just not convinced. I'm just not convinced that if they do get three or four bad injuries. And we've seen this with their skipper now. They covered beautifully. Draper was enormous against Sydney last week. I'm worried about what's next in their midfield. If they lose the wrong end or ratio. I know, you know, possible is improbable. But I worry about that. That's my one concern. Oh, that's fair enough. But ultimately when you look back after the finals are done and you look at the injury ladder, it almost mimics the ladder, particularly for the sides at the top top end. So you've got to have a good run with injury to do big things in September. They're no different. But when you've got a Brendan Cox coming back into the side. He's an a-grader defender. That can make Ryan a second interceptor and probably can't punch any sides. They're going to come for Ryan and tag him. They've got some depth. Obviously their midfield might be a slight weakness. But at their best, they're pretty well stocked. Jared, there's a question that we've asked a lot on the show of us. This is not a new comment, Jared. Let me tell you. Wasn't that long ago that we're talking probably three weeks ago? Oh, no. That was three weeks ago. That was through the confirmation. I said it last year. Why not? You asked a question last year and then he confirmed it three weeks ago. Who do you think he's closer to a premiership? Jared, West Coast or Fremantle? Cos my learning colleague over here three weeks ago said West Coast is closer to a premiership than Fremantle. Your thoughts, please? We did those funny things to people. I've actually, I've actually walking at the present time. There's one degree over here. When I heard your minimum was 10, I thought to myself, "My goodness." So maybe you had a frostbite scenario a few weeks ago. I didn't check the weather patterns. All right. Now, now, now. A follow-up question, Mr. Healy. What do you, well, clearly, Goss, you'd rethink that. When I first made the comment... When I first made the comment last year, I was firmly believing that Fremantle's window was closing because I think they are trying to get through a premiership window. With six or seven other clubs. And I saw almost still sort of believe there's six clubs that can push hard through a window and you get squeezed out the back. So I think they striking soon is important for them. And while they're trying to push through a window, West Coast is not. So West Coast is not. Then we know that. They're not on our thing. But it's more about making Fremantle have to strike now. And, Jared, I don't know if we all know this, but they haven't won one yet. Now, I understand that's why it's exciting for those guys that are in the team and in the coaching group right now. That history piece is such a motivating, I guess, element for everybody. I always had ambitions of playing a premiership side. The first in Sydney, it was a really motivating piece for me. And I'm sure it is for the Fremantle guys. So I wasn't lucky enough, Gee, when it happened, it was amazing. And I can still remember the scenes when the Eagles won their first premiership. And that's what awaits the Dockers if they can do it. So I don't think these scenes are a stupid question. But if we know, and I've reputed in my head about four times so far, we know how hard. Premissions are so hard to win, Jared. That's an obvious thing. Do you think it's harder to win the first one? That's obviously a mid-to-approach. They're probably used because you're starting from a base that no one knows what winning a premiership is about initially and putting a side together and is pretty tough and putting a club together is even tougher. But I mean, they're a mature footy club now. They've got some smart guys, a lot of smart guys right throughout that club. So they shouldn't have any trepidation about entering finals. They've been there before. They had a disappointment a couple of years ago. Went back down to latter last year. So they're rebounding it. But most of those guys have got finals experience. I know what it's all about. They're just a couple of years. Oh, and I think the fact that you've got these two big ruckmen that particularly Darcy is getting fitter and fitter by the minute is going to hold you in good stead. And they can beat Sydney. Jared Healy is on line. We're talking all things footy with, of course, Jared. Sports day going for a walk currently in Melbourne. Hey, so Jared, so in simple terms, do you think, like we talk about players, we just had Paul Pios on in regards to Jake Waterman in his future in the life of West Coast and looks like he's going to re-sign and all that stuff. But we're reading with interest at Sam Mitchell and a little posse. He went up to try and coax Harry Perriman. Mate, I just convinced this by saying 800,000 for five years. Don't pay the Perriman that much. I will say he right now. Like it like it. Seriously, coaches meeting players during the season, not norm the norm, but it happens more often than we probably realize. Well, isn't it funny how accepted norms change because when Geelong did that, they went over in hoodies and when it came out over to Adelaide, they were trying to get to have a spoke out of it. And I remember on the couch all those years ago when I was hosting it, it was a huge issue and people were affronted by it. But now it's just seen as good management. But I guess that's the same with just player movement. Everybody's happy for, well, not happy, but everybody accepts it. Flows are moving and Sam Mitchell's breaking down all sorts of traditions. And he's going, well, bugger it, I'll be open. And honestly, we're going after this going. Don't be surprised if your line re-pairing and makes it's way to a sports day. Don't rehash it. And I'll be claiming it's an original. It gets to boot it right there. I love it. Hey, Jared. Obviously, you're rate-free men highly and you rate their chances this year. At least it'd be the other one. Who else have you got as genuine contenders this year? Because as I've said it a few times now, I think it's one of the most pinchable flags we've seen. Yeah. For a long time. Who have you got in your calculations? It is open as you rightly show them. Right at the moment, Kalton and Sydney statistically end on the ladder. A fairway ahead of everybody else. The next two speak for themselves. I'm not as doom and gloom about us. And then as others, I think they can get it right in the next eight weeks, calling with another one and probably Brisbane and the dogs. Champion data will tell you their numbers. It's showing that they're playing final-time footy right now. So it's really open. I'm not sure if there's any others. Have you got another one for me? No. I had four. I had four in... Did you say Brisbane? Yeah, you said Brisbane. Brisbane, yeah. Yeah, Brisbane. I think they're coming with a bullet. I had... This was probably two weeks ago. We said we had Sydney, Carlton, Collinwood, Fremantle, where am I? Four. Three. I can't win the flag this year. Well, history says you're probably right, but there's been issues around history. That tends to redefine history. It is. So they can't win it until they do it. That's the exciting part for me. And that list, if it continues... The whole issue about the latter now is who improves from here on in. Sydney can't probably improve much, but they've got some weaknesses, I think, in defence and up forward. Carlton, to me, are the premiership favourites. Their balance is superb. It's still got six weeks or seven weeks to get their act together, but statistically it's fantastic. You get the moment, but the upside for these groups with young kids and young guys coming through and folks are coming back into the side by three. I think it's still very, very optimistic or very, very possible that they can go on and do good things. Now, Joe, I did want to bring this up, but Max... When are we promoted that you were coming on our show? Max said he wanted to bring up a conversation you and I had on air many moons ago. And I don't know whether you talked about it or someone brought it up that I'd said this. When Adam Chero was trying to get out of Fremantle to go to Carlton, I said, "Well, you know, it's not no big deal. It's only Adam Chero wouldn't be falling open himself, no disrespect." Max recalls you saying that he thought Adam Chero would be a multiple all Australian and possible Brownlow medalist in the making. Now, I don't know whether he did say that, but can you recall something along those lines? Yeah, I've always been a fan of Chero's. Has you been disappointing since going to Carlton? Oh, no, I think he's been really good at Carlton. Okay. I think he's been really good, and I still think he'll be a multiple all Australian. I'd be surprised if he doesn't make all Australian at some stage. This year and last year, he's been a really good player for the Blues. And unfortunately, he's a great start. This season got grilled by injury, but he's one of the reasons Carlton can get better, because he's back in and the addition of him to Walsh and Cripps makes that midfield to make a great talent alone. Yeah, certainly does. Hey, mate, don't be a stranger to Walsh. You can call us any time we'll make space. As long as that breakfast is still full of joy, I'll be really happy. Enjoy your walk, mate. Stay warm. Appreciate it. Okay, thank you. Jared Healey, host of Sports Day at Melbourne, of course. They always involved Fox 40 as well and super, super. His knowledge, and he works on facts only. He works on, but also he gets, sorry, he gets themes as well. I like his themes. He's one of the good people to work with as well. He's, uh, JJ said, maybe Josh should have said who will win a premiership first out of the Eagles and Dockers using closer to a premiership doesn't mean winning ones. Sort of, sort of where I was going, JJ. That's the way. JJ, getcha. Yeah. I still don't. They're going to come back and wrap it up. Not going to have time for your tips. I'll send them through. They'll be crapped as most weeks are. I'm struggling so badly. Ash Brazzle, would you like us tomorrow? We'll get to the bottom of the three metal Dockers AFL. Yeah, I feel a big weekend with tips coming up though. Yeah, do you? Yeah, I feel, I feel it in my... Did you know you played for more clubs than you've got tips right this year? I haven't played as many clubs as, er, as Ron Tugnut. Yeah, how many clubs do you play? I'm about seven. Thanks for your company. Wow, wee. Healey's off his head. Yeah, chair has been really good question, Mark. Appeance. (upbeat music)
