A kinsman redeemer was one that had the legal privilege to redeem property, people and inheritance on behalf of a close relative.

If a widow was childless, under the law, a close male relative could redeem her through marriage and buy back her property. This would ensure the widow's right of inheritance would not be lost and would provide for her offspring.

Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer.

He took upon Himself, our nature of flesh; His blood took away our curse, and our slavery to sin.

Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.
