[MUSIC PLAYING] Right, let's get straight into our preview of Liverpool's return to the fucking Champions League. So joining myself, Phil and Dave, is Jay Riley on the line. Right then, everyone's excited about the Champions League returning, so we're going to do a little preview of the match against Ludo Goretz. Let's just forget the opposition for a second, and the weekend result for a second. How buzzin' are we to be back in the Champions League Clads? Listen to that music. Jay, it's a bit of a shot in the arm that we all needed. Yeah, it's brilliant, isn't it? Obviously, we've been out of it for five years now, so it's good to be back with the European elites. And it's, I think, like, the draw that we've got. We've got a glamour tie up, and we've read, obviously, the one at last year, and the one at 10 times in the past. So, you know, the pinnacle ante, the club that have won it the most. So it's great, isn't it, that we've got them in the group? Also, I think it's been quite can to us as well, because we've got bars or the-- let's be honest, they're not. I mean, I know they've been Manchester United a few seasons ago, but they've lost a few of their star players now, and it's got loser Garretz as well, who, like, basically, the Bulgaria Minos. I don't think so, but you can't think, he's called Francis, but you'd have to fancy Liverpool, and it's just going to be great. Like, you know, it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck when you're there, the Champions League music, and it's just good to be back. It certainly is. Dave, I assume you're as excited as the rest of us looking forward to tomorrow night. Oh, yeah. I mean, it feels like a long time coming. Do you know what I mean? I feel like we've probably spent two or three seasons where this has been our aim, and it's a bit like the build-up to going on holidays, you know, it's like, it's finally here, you know, we're finally going to the Champions League. I mean, not to cast any sort of downer on it, but I am a little sad Suarez isn't here, because I feel like, certainly for the last 18 months, you know, the byproduct going into the Champions League was to keep Louis Suarez, and, you know, it would have been great to see him running out for us, and particularly playing against Madrid if we, you know, if and when we, you know, when we get to them. But, no, great, really excited. It was great to see the press conference today, hear the play, you know, hear the man you're talking about it. I think it'll be a, hopefully, a great atmosphere tomorrow, and, you know, let's be honest, this is a game we should win. Yeah, yeah. Filled mosaics and flags and all sorts of lovely, lovely things being done to the stadium at the moment and anticipation of this. How excited are you, fella? I'm very excited. You look excited. You do look very excited. I'm genuinely excited. How are you? I'm struggling to contain my excitement. Why is that? Why are you so excited? It's just that there's something to watch for you on the television and shows, isn't it? You mean you can sing it, you know, every day I'm, I mean, it was. I've been enslaved East Enders for the last half, not so many years. I feel like, and I've been watching the same story on a bit of wrecking for the last, I don't know. It's been the same story, like, for 50 years. It's like the, as someone who I've left and come back, I think someone would have died and come back as well. Since we were last in the Champions League. I have used to find it as hard as I have to watch other teams in the Champions League. Well, we've been away. I've been watching East Enders. What did I tell you as soon as, if football is on the television and it's not Liverpool, like I'm on a loose in battle in terms of Jordan Week, or to watch the weekend. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's, that's, that's, you know, negotiations with the misses based on it. Yeah. So you end up, I actually just don't want to watch it. This is what I'm saying. Well, I prefer, I prefer picking the game. When Liverpool, I pick the game that I want to watch. Yeah, yeah, yeah. As opposed to watching 90 Townsend. Yeah. I'll just, yeah. Right. So. Like, come on. Who can people's? Yeah. It's, it's, it's, it's the best, you know, competition in the world. And then there's, there's no, there's no, there's no competition even close. We're like, no, not just that. Genuinely. There we are. And we're back, we're back. Yeah. Back with a bang. Well, let's hope so. That's, that's exactly, that's exactly. No, we're not going. So we've got a great fucking chance. Well, you're never going a game, come fast, right? I never go. Jay, you put the word out in Liverpool. If anyone sees Phil Casey and not the boat, shoot them. What do we need to do then? Shaps given that, you know, this is, look, people can, can dismiss the opposition if they want, because we haven't necessarily heard too much about them, doesn't it? These guys who are last 16, the Europa League last year, they're clearly champs in our own country. So, you know, they're, they're handy side. What is it that we need to do after the disaster, to the back, all that happened on Saturday, and Saturday there? What changes would you make? And what changes would you expect, Jay? Well, I mean, I think it was evident that the system didn't really work against Aston Villa, and we struggled, and I think we're palarelli. Basically, you can't play with Montana's owner, and I do think he needs a partner. It's unfortunate that stutter just injures him. I do think Roger's will divert to the time of formation, but it's who he's going to select to play alongside balladlli, because, I mean, you could say about Lambert, but is he mobile enough? You could say about Perini? And to be honest, I'll probably go for him, you know, honestly purely because I think he's called movements, and I think he could help. But, you know, you've got to look at the situation where it is a blower, as I've just said, there about storage, but Stalen's obviously going to come back into the side, and he can also play our funds as well, but I think he's obviously better playing as in the number 10 role. But I think with fortunate reading that we aren't playing someone like that on Madrid, first up, because realistically, when you look at the midfield area, if you're going to play the jam, and Joe Allen shoots it perfectly, playing the other side of Gerard with his Henderson's do the side as well. So if Joe Allen's not available, then M.D. Chan could be the one for me to come into field, but unfortunately both of them are injured. So I think we're going to be a leader together, so as I say, you can't take them for granted, but that's the advantage to be done. So I think they might be a little bit more of it. I think Centennial could easily fit in there, because Roger just said in the past, I mean, if you look back to last season, Centennial played a little bit deeper at times as well. I just think it's one of them games where you're fully expected to be able to win the game, but what if being the first game, you just don't know the first game back into a few years and whatnot, but I do think there'll be a few changes, but not too many, because the backlands probably going to remain the same, isn't it? Because again, through injuries, we've had a bad start with injuries, it's suffered a lot. But yeah, I can't see that being low to change. Markovics can't play anyway, kind of, because he suspends into the first few things. Whatever side that Roger just goes with and whatever he selects, I'm pretty sure he'll go with it. I'm a formation because that's what seems to work for this Liverpool team. But whatever team he selects, I think he should have enough anyway. Yeah, Dave, starting was the big loss on Saturday, and the big mistake on Saturday, his admission, he clearly starts. And if he does start, do you see, as Jay suggests, the reversion to a diamond with him at the tip of it? Well, I think I certainly will play, but I don't think he'll go back to a diamond. You don't? No. I think that I don't think we've got the personnel to do it. I don't think I think planes do it. I mean, I look, there's loads I agree with with Jay. And actually, I probably, if I was Roger's, I'd do it myself. I'd go to a diamond, play Coutinho deeper and play Sterling up front. But I can see why he won't do that. I think there's a risk you lose a bit from Sterling if you push him where he becomes the final ball rather than the player playing the final ball. I think maybe you'll lose a little bit from him. I think he's going to play 4-2-3-1 again. I think he'll move LaLana into the 10 and play. I just don't think he thinks he's, I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Listen, we could play fucking 1-9 in terms of formation and we should beat this team tomorrow. I can see why he might look at it as a game that we should win comfortably and it'll allow him to maybe work through some of the things that he's got in his head with the system because you've got to remember, he's a smart guy, Roger's right? He's not 4. So in his head, he has something that he thinks will work. In his head, he's going, this formation, this team that I'm putting together, it will work if it does this and if it does that and if it does this and if it does that. And we didn't, obviously didn't do that on Saturday. But there's no way he designed this Saturday going, well, that's the way, you know, it didn't work outside of the way he had it in his head. So I just wonder, will he take it as an opportunity through injuries and because of the personnel we have to go, let's try and work out some of those kinks in that system, whether it's 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. But I think the only change will be stirring for Markovich. And then, you know, let's see what he does with the system, I don't know. I agree with Jay, I think, you know, if Alan was fit, I think that whatever system we play, it's better with Alan in it than without Alan in it at the moment. Is it a little bit vaguely dismissive to say that we should beat these irrespective of what system we play, Phil, these are... It's completely, again, if we play the 4-2-3-1 formation, which we clearly don't have the Paris now to play with, then little grits could... Well, they could basically set themselves up with an integral to Aston Villa. Of course, put two banks of... Put 10 players basically in front of the bar and say, come and break us down. Yeah. And we weren't able to do it on Saturday. Well drilled, well, or just stay compact, keep it tight in the centre. We tried to go around them. And then we didn't have anybody in the box for the headers in the formation that we had. But for me, anyway, I'd go back to the Diamond. I think we were talking about this on the way over to the game. I think at this stage, because we've lost Suarez, there's a very strong argument to say, okay, we have a default formation. And that's the formation we play in every game. And only if that's not working, do we then just look to move to something else. And I think we have the Paris now to play the Diamond formation. And tomorrow night, I would bring storage in as a straight swap for... I'm sorry, that's a storage. I bring Stirling in for storage as a straight swap in the Diamond formation. Okay. Yeah. And I play Coutinho, Henderson, and Gerard in the tree sort of sentiment field. And yes, I play LaLana in the 10 as well. Because for me, that puts LaLana in his best position. And it puts Coutinho in his best position when he's been playing for us at Liverpool. And then it also allows our two fullbacks, and Manquayo Moreno, who like to ride forward. It gives them the space and the flanks to go and raid. And to me, that's our strongest team in terms of what we have fit at this moment in time, and the best formation to cater for the players. What about when we would expect, as we did on Saturday, to have a lot of the ball? What about when we don't have the ball? What was missing for me in the case of a few of the debutants was the pressing that has been such a feature, and the likes of Coutinho had to grow into it. And he did eventually. But again, put them into the right positions, and things change, because players revert in sort of muscle memory, and also in automatic understanding of where they should play in the pitch and that formation. So against LaLana, because you're basically playing what should be a more limited version of Aston Villa. And I suppose that's been dismissive of them. But in reality, if you were to look at the two standards of the leagues, despite them in the actual league itself, you would say that these are probably a championship side at best, right? And if we go and approach it with the same sort of belief and confidence, and you can get knocked after the game against Villa, but there's no reason why we shouldn't go and approach it with the same belief and confidence that we have when we're in the Diamond formation, when we went to Spores, it wasn't that Spores dominated us when we played in the counter. We dominated into that game. So we can do it with that in the Diamond, with a packed Anfield buzzing like Bejays, you can already sense the anticipation for this game. You know, I managed to get two tickets enough of me for a friend. And they're so, like, they are just absolutely delighted to be going to this game, because they're buzzing to be at the match. You know, the force game champions the game back for Liverpool. And it's just, there should be a really brilliant feeling around the ground, a really buzzing feeling around the ground. And even if we did something stupid, we conceded an early goal. You know, it's up to the fans to stay positive and stay with the team, you know, if that happens. But what's not going to help is if we start in the 4-2-3-1 formation, there will be an almost audible ground from the fans going, "Oh, no, we're going with this again. I don't know if this is going to work." There's a lack of faith in the fan base in that system, because of what we've seen with that system and those players that's there. So, you know, in a way, it sort of pushes you. And I think Bejays, I think it pushes us back towards the Diamond, because that is our best formation for the players we have, as opposed to... Yeah. I think the good thing about Tomorrow Night, you know, is the irrespective of the system. And look, you know, I think we're all agreed that we should go to the Diamond. I'm just not sure where he will. The players from Saturday have to respond here. You know, there has to be a response from... There's no player. No player was diabolical on Saturday, right? But nobody was good. So, no player walked off that. Well, you know, we can... ...Mankio and Sako probably stand out. But nobody from an attacking sentence walked off that pitch on Saturday, thinking, "Well, I left everything on the pitch. Everything I did was good today." So, you know, if you're a Lana, or if you're... When I know Mark Hamichas, I'm going to play, or you're Coutinho starting for the first time this season, or, you know, Balletelli, surely you expect a reaction from these boys. And the crowd's going to be up for it. You know, everyone... They're going to want us to tear into this team. Yes. And I think, and we're not reviewing Saturday, but I think this team is a different team when we score first, versus when we concede first. If we score first and early, I mean, then confidence comes into the side. All of a sudden, the things that Lana's trying, or Coutinho's trying, or Balletelli feels like he's going to get a goal. All of a sudden, it's a different game, you know? Yeah, Jay, it's a fine line, isn't it? You've got to worry about... You've got to balance worrying about the opposition and treating them with respect. And at the same time, as Dave says, they're going for it. I mean, you know, it's tempting to be dismissive of these guys. One of our own crew here has referred to them as Luda Chris on a number of occasions, as opposed to Luda Gerez. Where... I mean, there's a potential here for it to be a bit of a... like a having a Waterlooville-style tie, isn't there? Like, I mean, we have to have our wits about us. To be honest, it's all about getting the victory, isn't it? Because, as we pointed out before, it's been five years since we've been in the competition. So, it's all about getting the victory. And as a shape, the Bulgarian minnows at the end of the tie, aren't they? So, fully expected Liverpool to win the game. And whether that be one, they'll all five, and it's a little bit irrelevant, really. It would be nice to give them a hard and pure, because it builds a little bit of a confidence booster for the Reds, you know what I mean? Because it's never nice losing the game of football and under Rodgers, we always tend to bounce back, don't we? And it's the rare that we struggle to games on the spin. So, I'm fully expecting a totally different performance from Liverpool. You all be with the similar pair of Chanel. I'm fully expecting Liverpool to put note to turn it on. And some are all nice, but, like I said, what an order of loot to get it. I mean, last season, I remember the name from last season, you know, hopefully quite an attack on Chads, and I don't think they'll come to Anfield and shift back. I think that it's going to come to the experience and have a go at us, because if you look back to last season, you think he played PSV hands over in last year, I think he actually won away from home against both of them, and they fell against Valencia. So, they've come up against decent opposition in the past, you know, like obviously it was only last season. And I think there's quite a lot of goals involved in them games. So, I think they'll have a go at ours and obviously Liverpool is defensive, pretty poor, isn't it? We can see that quite a few goals already this season, and there's no stability in that back line, and obviously the goal keep is not great. So, I think, like realistically, they could create a few opportunities themselves against us, but if they're going to come to Anfield and have a go at us, then that should be right up our street, because it's when teams come to Anfield and defend, like pretty much what like Aston Gillard's in. You know, they still got the early goal, and he shot back, and he said, "Come on, break us down." And we just couldn't. And I'm not sure that he'll do that, to be honest. I mean, they managed to come out, and he said something about he knows where our weaknesses are, but obviously we're a very good shard, and they're coming to win, and they're coming to stifle us, and stifle again, they're coming to win. So, I mean, that's positive from my point of view, because it's awful, isn't it, when a team comes to just nullify your way, and instantly, from by all accounts, I mean, they're going to come and have a go at us. So, that's exactly what we want, because it makes more of an entertaining game, really, doesn't it? Well, that's it. I think it's around 2010 or something, since this sort of rich benefactor has talked them over, that they've basically... Just before we get into it, because an old Trevor rarely gets to speak on this podcast, right? So, you're just going to call across him, and get to get some knowledge. But now, Trevor fairness has done a lot of homework and regrets. So, I think Trevor, you should be the honorary person to tell us what to do, to tell us what to do, to tell us what to do with that. So, what did you originally... Like opposition analysis? Yeah, because there's a hintable guardian of it anyway. So, you may have heard of every fucking action on it. Our Serbian estate value was here. So, yeah. Well, what I was going to say was, in 2010, they were taken over by a rich benefactor called the Mushiev. He has sort of overseen policy of buying relatively high profile players, like Marcellino of Brazil. So, it would be very tempting to think of them as minerals, but I think Jay's got something there. I think these guys think they're something. And their record last 16-year-old, but champions. They want to travel on their first season back up into the top division in the A League in Bulgaria. I would think that they will come out. And I think that, like Jay says, will suit us down to the ground. And looking at it... What is their strongest player? Like you said, Marcellino. Marcellino was the star named that I knew anyway. Well, I could say. There's a Barthe, a French lad who I'd heard of before, but again, to be honest with you, relatively wouldn't be that well known to a lot of people, but... Well, the reminder of any other smaller teams coming to Anfield on a channel. That's exactly the thing. That's exactly the thing. You saw the craziness of their multiple goalkeeper getting through the qualifiers. There's a swagger about this lad. I don't think they're going to come with that small team. I really don't. I'd be really surprised if they do. And it's not just in the back of the manager's comments. I just think these guys, they're here, they're going to have a right go. And I think that will suit us down to the ground. You know. But they're going to lose them there. I mean, they're going to, as part of this group, they're going to play in the Burnaby. They're going to play in Anfield. You know, they're playing two of the three more successful European clubs of all time. They're going to come and give it a go. They've got absolutely nothing. And they've got all that luck coming to their place. They've got to lose it all. You know, and it's a club that has, sort of, very, very checkered history. Like, it's changed the same several times. They've got 1945 in New Jersey, which refers back to a club that actually dare not. You know, it's changed ownership and changed names several times. I think this new era, since 2010, with this rich benefactor, like I said, this Demusia of Kidd, this is a team that really is going places. Maybe it's on a smaller level than with PSJA and the likes of Apple. Tell me, where are you expecting to bring many fans of them? Do you want to go over there? I haven't heard anything but travel and support. I really don't know anything about that. There's not a lot on Wikipedia, was there? No. That was not a Wikipedia. No. No, there was no stand and stats for that being. So, have I looked at my iPhone once, by the way? No, no, no, maybe you've been more thoughtful. That's wonderful. What's your answer on it? Is it un-lugress? Is it the history? I actually don't know what the fuck I've done about that tonight. By the time we finish here, it'll be about half one in the morning. Well, they formed out the displacement for me. No, we'll wait till daily so we'll ask. Thanks for that, Trevor. Cheers. Cheers. Jay, talk is just a rapid update. We want to look at lineups and predictions. Talk to me for a minute about who you think is the likely Liverpool setup that we've touched on all of us at this stage. Who do you think is the team that's going to go out tomorrow? To be honest, we're going to think it'll be the shame back for, because with the injury, as I said before, we're limited to the early army because, I mean, there's no way Colo Cori's going to start. And that left back, you know, obviously in the UK, he's also favored anyway, and the Reynold's done all right. As he starts, he's going to feel clear quite well. So, I think the shame back for what obviously may be letting him go. And then, like to say, for me, I think he's got to go back to his army formation, and obviously Jared's going to play is me. Henderson's going to play. And I will play Casino in that other ball. I mean, the only thing I'll say is he said it before about Zalem and then they chan, they're going to offer Jared more possession of what Casino would do. But I think Casino will keep the ball, the ball of attention, quite good, you know, the main at times. So, I think because of the opposition, and as I say, I don't want to underestimate them at all. Because of the opposition, it's not quite. I can't imagine the pain is in sense as it was against Aston Billaway. He would crush your attitude in the field areas, and it was difficult to stop breaking down. I just think it's a type of game where Casino might do OK, make for this in that role in the field. And Jared might not suffer as much, you know what I mean? Yeah. And then it's a tricky one because obviously I think Stalem's obviously going to come back into the team. It's weird you play him. I mean, do you play him or thought with Palatelio? Do you play him as the number 10? You know, see, this is the tricky part of it now, because I think Alana will play as well. So, I mean, I would probably go with playing Stalem and with Palatelio and Valatelio and Valana, just in the number 10 goal. That's probably what I would go with. But it wouldn't surprise me for the only start of the set before. Yeah. Yeah. Well, to be fair, then that's something you've pretty much touched on in terms of your life. No, I'm not changing anything. So, you're pretty much agreeing with Jay. Dave, any tweaks there you'd make yourself? How do you think it'll look? No, I think that's the team that will play. Yeah, I don't know how they line up. I think it might be 4, 3, 3, it might be the diamond. What will be interesting, actually, is what happens with Gerard? Yeah. It will, Gerard, play the 90. And if he plays the 90, look in the head. Does that mean he may not play on against Westamp? I'm not sure, even without the international break, I'm not sure, Gerard's got three games in a weekend. I think it's the only bit that I have, because I agree with the lineup in terms of what Jay's put out there. But the only thing I would say is that looking at our previous expedition into Europe with Rogers when it was Europa League, he always played a very strong 11 at home. Didn't mind so much about the away games. There was more games, obviously, in the group. But his ideal being to win your home games, and then if you can take a draw when you're away, or nick a couple of results against the weaker so it's then you're almost guaranteed. And the same works for Champions League. It's almost as if he was trialed in his Champions League ideales in that Europa campaign. It's a big fit, it's a big test for him on Gerard, though. Yeah, but again, I think the Gerard team might be more governed about who's available to him, as opposed to anything else. None of us want to see Lucas talk, but it'll be interesting to see what happens to Gerard. I think hopefully we're well up, and he's able to go off on 55 minutes and wrap him up ready for the weekend. Yeah, that's it. You'll get 25 minutes out of Lucas. The one thing we'll always say in here is that you get 25 minutes out of Lucas. If you can take Gerard off after 55, 60 minutes, then you've got him ready for the weekend. You get 35 good minutes out of Lucas. The problem is to spread over six games. Jay, how have you seen this one end, and then give me a prediction? You know what? I think there'll be goals in the game, because as I said before, Luda Gerett, they seem like quite an attack man, the team, but they're not the type of team that's going to, from what I believe about them anyway, they're not the type of team that's going to come and try and ship back and defend against us. They're going to have a real go at us, so that should shoot with a pool. And, of course, it'd be nice to put five or six past them, but I don't think realistically, I think with the personnel, we've got missing. Obviously, he's a blow, because he's a proper goalscore, isn't he? Yeah. I think when you look at Balotelli, I think it's, when you're analyzing his career, he's not like a poacher or anything. He scores a lot of very good goals, if you like. He's scored a lot of penalties and free kicks, so he's not really a poacher type. So because we haven't really got that in the shard, which storage's not playing, and whether it be very new plays or stale. And, let's be honest, there's not really floods of goals there, but, I mean, you've got a fancy Liverpool at home, and at the end of the day, I think we can see it as well, because I don't think I'll ever going to predict this season of a pool to keep a green sheet in all honesty, because it's worrying me so much at the back of the pool, but there is got, I mean, as a shite, storage is a loss, but I think we'll score a couple of goals, like it would be enough to win the game, so I'll go for a 3-1 of the pool win. 3-1, okay, they're very popular, 3-1 scoreline, Dave Thomas, what do you think? Go big or go home, I think, 4-0, I mean. 4-0? Yeah, why not? I mean, I actually think, I think the defenses are a lot better than it's looking at the moment, that I actually think that the more this back four plays together, the better they'll get, I think Sarco's playing himself into some form. I think a lot of what Lovren does, he just needs to calm the fuck down. Love the fallbacks, I think we got great fallbacks, and okay, can't tell anything about the goalkeeper. So I think we'll win 4-0, I think if we score early, which I think we will, I think we'll be really up for it, I think we'll tear straight into him. Yeah, fuck it, go home, 4-0. Okay, I'm seeing Balotelian on his favorite stage, and I can't see how he goes in a game when it's going, and I think that would be enough for us, but it might be a bit tighter in 4-0, Phil. Being resident Jonah, I'll say 4-0 to Lovren's. Yeah, I think so. Like I have to at this stage. I have to. If she god knows you always. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. Attention Social Security and SSI recipients.
