Let's talk interior listeners questions Okay in a very very packed bunker. Let's begin our review of Norwich City to Liverpool three It was another nerve you win another game spent in a bit of a state of heightened anxiety after looking to be home in Troy Is this second half Liverpool a worry in the matches to come? Well, yes leaving for having the temerity to have a moan about Johnson Lucas and Brendan's substitutions I was told to just fucking enjoy it. So the open question to you people around the table is are you enjoying it Charlie Maloney? No No, why is that? Because many of us are gone and they keep Coming out in the face off and being boss and then going into the changing rooms I'm coming out and being we as ooze and I'm like where's the lads gone? You've just been on the beach. Yeah, there's no substitution. So what's happened there? And now dad meet me art gone. So it's a stop at the start of Paul Brown. How do you how you get on? Yeah, I'm enjoying it. You're enjoying it. Yeah. Oh, yeah, like it's it's better kind of worrying about this than it is about worried about Fucking right Hudson or at night. That's how you go stack in Are you gonna start getting all Casey and philosophical about us and sat on the past and compared to the present? How did you know? How did you know? How did you know? I told alone repairs to fuck off Yes, you did. Yes, you did. In general I'm enjoying it. So tell me how you enjoyed the second half make some I'm not lost Go on explain that Yeah, it was fucking frightening stuff. Yeah. Yeah, I am kind of overall enjoying it But yeah, it's dicey stuff in the fucking second half. It is. It is. It is coming to the Mike Derpaul because Phil keeps telling He's just Stevo Stevo daily story. How you getting on? How you enjoying this? Yeah, I am enjoying it actually. Yeah, I am even second half yesterday Yeah, I'm enjoying it. We're winning games or winning games. Yes five points clear If you can't enjoy it now when can you enjoy it because in the last 20 years, I've never seen this in this position Very good. You know what I mean? So yeah, there was two goals that we conceded which I felt both soft There was probably three other chances including Skirtles, you know That this shot that hit Skirtles head and was nearly an OG boom. Oh and that I didn't think we were under that much pressure Especially since we were effectively playing with 10 men For the entirety of the game. We'll come to that. I know we will But yeah, you know what I mean other than that. Yeah, I am enjoying it. You know, we I feel we should have the game wrapped up You know without putting ourselves in that position. I still think and even though there was a few players that weren't under On their game yesterday, you know, or as good as they could be That we still looked for the majority of the game in control. Yeah, and that to me We got over the three points. I don't care how we win the next few matches. It's about getting out with a few points Just get out with it. Yeah, just get out with it. You know what? We win the game. We win the game next Sunday I don't care if it's the nervous match ever. I don't care if it's the worst game ever We get three points from from that game next Sunday We're pretty much home. Yeah. Yeah, Steve around Enjoying in secondary at this stage. We just want to keep winning. I just love it every minute of it Right for me as much as Raheem Sterling is Flappy wings and everything here. It is brilliant to watch. It is brilliant to watch and The second half didn't cause you too much anxiety. It was a strange. I don't know what it was I was sitting watching my chest and it kind of taught to me self that Before Minulate decided to call him flappling across. It just didn't look like we can see it was just locally when I was games where I was like no matter what marriage we're gonna do It they just weren't gonna break us down and then it was obviously a stupid mistake from Minulate the cost is to go but I don't know what it is. It looks seems to be in at the minute which happens with Every league title winning side that you need that kind of look as Steve I said with the shot that hits girls head If that was the other end it's an orange player that flies into the bottom corner, but things just seem to be going away for us Um, it's just brilliant. Yeah. Yeah, normally it feels it's a bit of a worry. It's not to be reliant on this kind of Atmosphere and people kind of fade and all that kind of stuff. I'm already into that you Well, I was the one that said I was gloriously calm about everything that's going on I am gloriously calm until the 90 minutes when I'm sitting there watching the match. It's like I found myself gradually descending into a football as the game or on yesterday getting started rolled up into the fetal position The close and close of the 90 minutes game and especially in that second half And you're just waiting you're tearing it up and you're cruising and then you give away a stupid one You're going to fucking two one two one pixie score pixie scarred not just just you know, just say, you know get control Just regroup fucking everything. Then we go three one and say yeah Yeah, happy days this this could be comfortable here and then we just go again and it's like I Can't enjoy that nervousness especially the last him and it's jesus. I was like a fucking you're just sitting there Eating fingers eating the pillow eating everything you can fucking find I Think do I think that coming up against knowledge? We shouldn't have to do that. Let's see today We should walk day and we shouldn't be I don't I don't think The one thing we said about knowledge and actually what we said it in in in the Pod last week is that it was always going to be a tight with with Norwich despite all the things that was going on If you remember last year, we won't play till when we went there we can see the two goals as well Um, they've drawn with city at home this year. They've beaten spores You know, they've had a reasonably good record and they've turned in good performances throughout the season They're positioning the table below is the actual performances that that knowledge have turned in in actual matches They just can't seem to score goals. Now. We managed to concede to them and that's that to me Remains the biggest worry as we go on this run in and it just I I'm just I find the hard to enjoy enjoy before the game. I enjoy after the game when the results are selling up Well, when you're in the midst of 90 minutes, it's very hard to actually enjoy that one It's so tight and everything is riding on what's going on. No, you can't look enjoying the games I think it's a misnomer. You enjoy the result, but look let's keep you on there and I will skip one of the items in the agenda So you've talked about concession of goals. There's a lot of chat a bit manually It had another kind of a mixed game. I think maybe not convincing under the high ball Is punching against him but strange. I'd be interested here what you have to say about his punching It seems unorthodox. He seems to use sometimes Overhand punching or use the wrong hat. It looks unusual with me The goalie can see the one that he dropped yesterday. He goes with the wrong hand Yeah, he goes he goes he obviously goat leads with a stronger hand because that's one of the fields comfortable With the player coming in from his left hand side If he gets hit from that side, it's gonna turn like his punches naturally going to look at his face The punch in the ball is gonna naturally torn back towards the goal If he comes with the left hand even if he gets hit The ball is gonna travel in the opposite direction and away from where the knowledge players are My my I actually didn't think mini-lay was particularly poor yesterday I think yeah, he made a mistake for the goal And he made a couple of good really good solid saves in terms of holding onto the ball when the shots were taken at them But the one criticism I have and something I needed to prove down on the previous weeks was a speed of distribution slowed down again Yesterday, he was always taking an extra touch of the ball came in He wasn't playing things for us time And that was allowing the Norwich players to actually press on to either defenders the midfielders And then himself because there was a couple of times and they got very close to them in terms of closing them down And just like get get it out your feet get it out your feet and he wasn't getting it out quick This can also be a nerve thing Not that I'd say the players nervous, but you know there's so much writing on it You want to make sure that your passes are right You don't want to have a West Brom thing happening like the Colos Palace against West Brom because I draw our loss at this stage It's potentially fatal for for our title chances And that's obviously in the players mind as well. So but no overall I'd say 84% of his game was actually very good yesterday He did bear that one mistake on for the goal. He came for a lot of a good few balls He did some really good punches as well after the actual goals I was able to pull it straight over to Moses exactly four years But it's just it was just that he obviously went for a strong hand Wanted to make sure he got the ball knew that he was going to be challenged But in doing so he would have been better off either going with the left hand or even doing a flappy out of just it You know just to move to the ball Your cart is well though, but you could see on his leg when he took a goal kickable for him and it's like crazy to see on the replay Yeah, he was great, but yeah, a lot of the time you could get free for it like Yeah, Johnson did lead was like in fairness Paul as a man. He's done a little bit of time between the stakes there yourself Is he inspiring confidence in you at the moment? Um, he seems to have the old kind of like he does kind of Yeah, you do get butterflies in the stomach when he's coming for crosses or anything like that But they got all around I think he's okay like he's not he's not magnificent That stuff like coming off his line around them like that. Well, like he like we said, he's a great shot slapper I'm like the rest of it kind of that's the main thing you need as a keeper The rest of it we can see if you can work it out like but and like, you know, the crosses and stuff like that But at the moment, I like him. Yeah, I think he For what's going on the way we play in the way we defend Yeah, it sound as the in sport confidence for me Yeah, I think he's got big moments in him as we head towards the back end of the season I think like shots are gonna be coming in, you know in the games That's coming up and do I think he's going to make the majority the saves. Yes, we do the save from Van Wolf I think yesterday it was fucking a brilliant save the one thing That I'd say is if you look back to when he made a couple of errors in the middle of the season They started to came in a bunch now, you know There was the one against West Ham I know he was fell by carol But again, that was one each of the punch them which he then did later on again We have it so I'm hoping that you know, he's had his couple of errors in the morning Yeah, and now we get to see in order two or three magnificent match winning saves our Result change and saves within the actual context of the games that are coming up I think the I think the worry not the worry But the the thing that we need to concern ourselves about is does he change his way of play in the summer? Does he work on a turn pre-season to improve the area studies deficient on at the moment? He's gonna need to because unfortunately if we if we do go and win the league or not We still will have every other team Identifying where our weak points were this season and whilst I think our back four will change And I think you know, obviously Brennan will will evolve the way we play yet again next season I think if the keeper stays rooted to the spot as much as he is now You will find teams targeting that as a weak point for us next season Well, Steve, I can almost handle the the occasional flapper to cross But I can't handle is the thing Phil touch on early on which is distribution which has gone from being quite rubbish to slightly improved To a bit ponderous now when you have all those kind of combinations coming in It leaves you very much our loss when you're a team that tries to play possession football and play from the back You could feel the tension building when you know In terms of the delay he had on the ball. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know where you're coming from And I think I think that's something that absolutely, you know He has to shift the ball as quickly as every other player on the pitch if the balls coming in he has to in his mind No, well, and you know, I suppose for him it's a little bit different He has to rely on his defenders to give him angles either side to save him Having to just pump it up the field and make it a 50/50 ball Yeah, but I think they have been doing that I've been watching them as soon as as soon as the ball comes back to him sack or agar and skirt Look are pulling wide and giving him those options. And yet he's still inviting the center forward to get it within that touch That extra touch where you know the one thing that Raina was brilliant that we talked about is distributionist feet when the ball came back He was such a good one-touch passer. He knew he knew he knew Agar was there He knew scared you know the water so the difference was that Raina wasn't making the saves being a liaison Absolutely, absolutely. I'm not getting into the men. You know the issue is that his his Rainers touch was a good enough touch that it pushed it Eight eight to twelve inches away from his foot So his next touch wasn't to position it and he was stepping in he was stepping into the pass and making it straight away Whereas men you lays for us to kill it dead at his fault He then needs the next touch from them and then the next touch is the pass Raina tried playing central midfield in a few preseason friendlies. I recall. Yeah. Yeah He's obviously I can't go. Then you lay as an ex-outfield player 15 or 15 or 16 star the fact. Yeah, good knowledge. I did not know that He was trying to imagine he was a slick passer Maybe he could play sentiment Steady steady, okay Charity told me with Scotland sack old and the skylabs yesterday had sack or written off pretty early on Don't know if you're unfortunate to be listened to that call him a lawyer, but he but his stats after game stack up very well again 96% I think past completion and all the rest with a lot of challenges one Skirtle was back to his short tug and stuff wrestling with people almost score two on goals What did you make it center after today? Statistically stack up yet. You're right statistically is a good player on paper, but when you watch him It's it's it's it's he's not it is navy like he makes me navis. Do you know what I mean? Yeah? Skate oh If you're waiting for the z then you know how many girls was it gone in? Do you know really? Yeah, he's also the thing that annoys me with scale is that sometimes I wish he'd get the ball and clear It's only ends of the pitch and not just head it out probably guards. You know I have one all its fences to Get the ball and get vis-a-vis and get down into you know Do the end of the pitch and not just not honey, you know with 20 yards a box because all you do is inviting them back in again Sure. Yeah, I felt when I was watching it was that you know clean at all I have to say I was looking at it and go and clear the ball get vis-a-vis. Yeah, and that's that's what I felt But yeah, like you said statistically it's a so is he scored like but It doesn't it's pleasant isn't felt. Yeah, that's all right So I heard someone saying it's because he maybe cuz he's such a big guy He's such a big unit. He looks a little bit on game the underbought and yet his passing is wonderful It is is again to this statistically if you look down on paper. He is like a pass was pass rates Huge Oh, yeah easily. Yeah, and as as easily believe you but he needs to make his presence felt he needs to be there and He needs category to be more than Adam You know they can tell them ways to be and I think that's what that's what we'll like on the lack of leadership at the back. Yeah Yeah, I showed you a showing. Well, no, I'll show you. Yes, I'll just a proper You might work that Steve you what how did you think the two lives in the day? Were you confident in them watching them throughout the game? I was excellent. I really did. Yeah, he was absolutely excellent I skirted him put a foot wrong yesterday don't ever think that he wanted he's playing start play more football I'm the back as well where he's not just doing 50 60-hour passes or Troy attempt to 50 60-hour passes you can see skirtless became our number one center half over the course of the Season we all at the start of season month. It's currently we thought you'd be the first one to go But the way he's grown into that role where he seems to be now with the leader of the defense Because he's he's the number one so it's either I or sack out at coming into partnership him and so I think he enjoys responsibility of it as well like don't forget like Skirtles at International captain as well like he's the Slovakian captain and Yeah, so let's talk about leadership. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not buying that and sack out as well So I was the PSG captain at 18 years where he's like just something there between the two I'm on the page. Do you see that leadership in the page? I'm scared. Yeah, I do I've seen it. I've witnessed it, but not like it's not consistent. I Feel anyway looking at it for me. Yes, they I think the Going back to what you said because Sacco doesn't look as comfortable on the ball as more of us as other footballers people jump on but he you know He gets a bit a little bit nervous. It reminds me of a lot of Jim Mitchell already to be honest with you like that that to me seems to be more More the influence of what people are seeing in Sacco as opposed to what he's doing on the pitch People aren't seeing what he's doing. They're thinking about yourself Yeah, and what when an awful lot of the set pieces it was him who was organized and coming back to where we've talked About what does aggro bring to the pitch? It was him who was organized in the defense and it like the goals. They score don't come Essentially through us right there. It's a mistake and then it was poor play by Sterling and Johnson in terms of a land across to come in For a second go and I don't know I'm looking at them saying our center backs making errors And I don't see it I see at this moment in time when we've seen scared make errors through the season And I just don't see Sacco making these errors that make it will get people so nervous He's he's been like to me. He's a rock of a center half Sleep yesterday in the first half or he was this possession or twenty but again that came from poor options in front Yeah, because he's on the ball. He's looking up to play the next pass and get himself into space and There's an awful ball from Flanagan's home. Yeah, because he actually the ball from Flanagan was actually a nothing ball He played it too far in front of Sacco and not not hard enough to get to Gerard There's a couple of other things as well. We're expecting him to be commanding leading center half Which is fine from a physical point of view, but the blokes probably not fluent in English yet. You know what I mean? So it's and I'm not being smarter, but he's probably not and it's very difficult it when when Anybody here that's played football even even at any level if you're under a bit of pressure Or if you're in the game if you're if you're engrossed in what's happening in the game your ability to communicate Isn't always as as you know good as it would be if you're sitting near having a nap Okay, and that's just because your mind's racing you're trying to concentrate on where players are going You're trying to make sure everybody's marking up and you'll bark orders that don't even half make sense sometimes You know what I mean the funny thing is the lads who you're talking to generally know what you're trying to say to them And and shit happens that happens at every level of football But if you're not fluent in the language that everybody else pretty much is it's a lot more difficult to get your points across as Distinguished as you want them to be you also Fluent and football is one thing but if you want to fella if you want to say watch that fella He's making a run inside you don't have to say that in the language Hand movement, but if the player 60 yards away from you and not looking you can't show you can't show Fucking John Oh, he's gone in behind it if you don't want to help And we've all seen how used us hand movements are in this bunker. Yes, they just they just don't get There's there's a second thing and I'm bringing I'm bringing in you know the fact that we raised this with the house guy Rode off their sack. Oh, yeah, you know number one Skypane no attention to actual facts. They just like to make up round and shit and y'all's after a member that Another means so his absolute personal biased bollocks and you know just because they've absolutely blown at this season He has no interest in in you know sort of looking at things rationally over the subjective mind He just wants to talk complete bollocks about other teams. I want to kill him Like as soon as I turn on Sky and I hear him as the co-commentator Immediately want to switch off. Yeah, you know, I literally do not want to listen to anything As opposed to know Quinn which a lot of people think is actually you know I Had Jim Begglin I'm not exactly a fucking star. Oh, you have to mention actually Election of amazing voices to have Jim fucking Begglin and oil Quinn. Yeah, he grew up about 500 yards away from my house. There you go That'll explain. I said, okay, well, let's move it move it sideways to the full box now Paul Paul Brennan Glenn Johnson We have to we have to address this and we don't want to get into the usual fashion thing Look he played like a brain donor on the day, let's be honest He was sloppy. He was slow. He was he was a wall a lot of the time when he should have been places Fan I taught by comparison by comparison. He was fucking world class But and again looked a little bit exposed even though I thought he was wonderful on the ball I don't think he gets half enough crowd for his ability on the ball like it But I'm talking to me about Glenn and about How much his performance actually affected us now? Do you want me to talk about Johnson? I don't mean to not put the bill into I won't go into the Glenpock lips are it? It was atrocious yesterday like it's just everything that's bad about him like his reactions like it how how he did There's on the ball get himself and the team into trouble I just think it was all there yesterday for everyone to see and like you said Flanagan was a lot better on the ball I think he's involved in the first goal. He was a build-up And he had a few of them where he caught inside and he looked like he was gonna threaten like an orator He looks good cutting inside the ball. He's very composed. He's got potential. Yeah, yeah, definitely But like I think he's like he's fairly intelligent on the ball rather than being really technically gifted or intimate I think he just has an intelligence that John Johnson doesn't have and kind of bravery that Johnson doesn't have I think that the play just it just breaks down every time we're Johnson I think you can let him run onto a ball if you can if you can put him through like into space Then he's got but if you're given the wall and try and get them involved and build up like you're just pissing into the wind I think but even his distribution like if the things you would take for granted from an international class fall back and read the comments I mean, he was involved and given away to the ball for the first goal He just looks stumbly. He looked doesn't look himself. He's not sure he kicked a few straight out for it Oh, yeah, yeah, I just said I don't think he's really soon to a pass and then she said I didn't think I'd ever Do this, but she was to was credit - oh wow - was He's not helped by having Lucas on that side. I know we're gonna get here He's he's not helped by having Lucas primarily on that side with him. You're being very rude Anyway, go ahead. Nobody he just he's just not helped on that side like Lucas was I hate to jump ahead, but he just he's he just was not part of that game He was like he was playing a another football match with two order teams as something was going on I mean when Johnson gets the ball coming back to what you're saying He gets the ball and it breaks down It's because he didn't have the option and so it and when Flanagan gets on the ball Joe Allen was always available for him on the inside So he was able to give the ball go get the ball back and he's in space When Johnson gets the ball, he played it to Lucas Lucas plays a straight back when before he gets on gets on on the go It's it's it's like you know, I mean it's it's not just Johnson in this instance It's the side that he's playing on the players he has around him that that that he needs to build in you know To build moves down down that flank. Yes. He wasn't caught on the day like himself in terms of what he was doing I'm not saying he was but he's not helped by like it was basically the shit So I did a team to be honest with you. Yeah that that whole that that right back and the Lucas side was just The two of them were just playing for a fucking I don't know somebody else I believe that we said that before the Lucas can't really turn since his injury He doesn't get on the ball and down in the way he used it So having him in front of Johnson meant that any time the ball went out to the right It was just getting funneled back in I got funneled back in by Lucas our Johnson just fucking lost basically doesn't it show you though? And by the way fell, I think that's what they call a segue or also known as fucking my agenda right up Doesn't it show you how dependent Johnson was on the on the man head from previous to that in the in the previous systems that I could do like in terms of Comes back to like what we've talked about when he was a cover Yeah, we had when Henderson is at the side And when he's had when Henderson's had to start a couple of games below the level he said that for the last couple of weeks It also seemed to counsel it with Glenn Johnson's poorest games. I thought Henderson is is is that ball that you know We're talking about there you feel you watch the game back I haven't since yesterday so sometimes in your head what actually happened isn't isn't it isn't actually what happened if that Makes sense and but for the second goal and we're writing saying that the skirt will comes out to meet the man The ball is played Johnson tracks the runner into the box rather than tracking the winger I watch which allows a free cross by is it is it what was the guys who have a femme was it? Yeah, the femme that whipped it in for the for the for the when I watch the second go back I watch the toys to sort of get me head around what's going on the initial bit is that the bar gets played out to I'm not sure that the norish player. Yeah, and Johnson stands off Yeah, right and stands often for I think it was actually Redmond gets the initial Yeah, and goes how it goes on the overlap, right? And that's when scare comes in Comes out but nobody tracks the staring tracks the overlap Starting let them go and that's where we're where it all stems from but at the same time No, no the seven seconds from the point where Redmond receives the ball to Johnson standing off and not going to close him Yeah, now if he goes and closes them there even if holes and goes in the overlap He might get a nick and we go out for a show and it stops to move in its You know the trick the trick is there are no where the players were the trick is if you get there early and stand up If you get there press early stand them up you can show him inside or outside wherever you want him to go Yeah, he played it if memory service me right left footed down the channel to the overlap and ball I could be wrong on that but I think he did so if you know the overlap's gone over your shoulder You show him inside you make him go back to the center of the field whereby your team presses across and is able to put the pressure on The major the major errors in it was that the stairland never tracked tracks the fallback Straightaway it becomes it becomes a double team and times what's going on because scared has pulled out And then there's two players with Johnson instead of one but Johnson could have helped himself out Boy when Redmond gets on it not standing off actually going aggressively and pressing every time and let's be honest That's one thing we've kept coming back is he doesn't stop crosses Doesn't he doesn't stop crosses and when the cross they're coming from the other side He doesn't attack crosses or mark man song cross so as a result you have crosses I'd read his wrong Summation there is not helped out by Luke is yesterday Well, I just I was surprised Lucas got a full game. I I see them in the land of the tools 40 minutes yeah, yeah, you'll be gone. Yeah, but you never and I'm sorry Well, actually that does that does lead us into what we're going to talk about next and basically I was going to talk about in relation to the manager the initial selection that Charlie's just mentioned there of Playing Lucas and Joe Allen when enough of us had made chance that perhaps it will be worn with one of the terrible twins Yago or or or or a Victor Victor. Um, so what do we make about that the better up about making that call and Stay I'll be honest. I actually made the call for Lucas to come in. I did Absolutely, you know, I mean I said that it will be not not necessarily because I wanted it to happen but I really did feel that that's what Rogers would do and And Phil made the show that he only has 45 minutes in him, which I thought fair enough You know, I mean my my thinking was I wasn't worried about yesterday I genuinely thought we would come up make the start that we actually did unfortunately. I didn't foresee us, you know Capitulate Steve, Steve. Oh, given that The sheds been named now a couple of times as you say Phil the Phil mentioned last week Charlie's just just flagged up again They're the forty five minutes thing or the half or the 50 or whatever It was clear that the kid was struggling So will you explain to me because we're very quick and we should be to praise Brandon because he's fucking Incredible what he's done this year, but would you explain the logic to me of not pulling him I'm not being smart I don't get it. I can't explain it because to me. There is no logic behind it. He is obviously thinking Lucas the type of player that he is gives us additional defensive cover But in my head like I genuinely Does Lucas come? Oh, sorry does this continue come off at three one or or two one? My only thinking on it can be that he thinks right. We're gonna we're gonna hold these high up the pitch So, you know, I mean like he's thinking to himself Maybe that that that Gerard and Lucas slide into a two and and they get defensive I genuinely can't put my finger on it because I thought I was shouting at the TV thinking How is he not the four? I honestly would have hooked him at half time and I'm not a Lucas hater I'm not I'm not I'm not saying he has any role to play for the rest of the season I think he's finished with this football club and I do I do I do think I think he should be finished with this football. That's a different thing, but I'm sorry Okay, so maybe he's not but yeah, but you know what Brendan Rogers is ruthless He hasn't felt under pressure to play the players that he spent money on he sent one of them out on loan The other two have heard me and the family that he brought in on loan from Chelsea Victor Moses They've hardly got a sniff this season. So so it does show a ruthless. It does show a ruthless streak You know so from my point of view I would hope that he'll he'll shift Lucas in the summer because he just has no role to play in what we do as a team now There's no where I can see him fit into what we do as a team. He's slow on the ball He doesn't have the ability to turn anymore as I was saying yesterday Every pass that comes into him goes back to the person he's received it from because he doesn't have a turn He doesn't he's not even receiving a body with his body open or say he's not even receiving the posture I say with his body open. He's he's he's got his back to play. He's receiving it into feet I'm just having to go back. Exactly. He's the cons of it played away your face on football at the moment Yeah, but of course he's not only face eminulate. So you know, I mean that's that's where ever he's facing But it's it was really really poor and it was one of the absolute main reasons why we struggled Yes, Steve Brown. Give me a bit of context here and tell me a little bit of a reason why Lucas should maybe not just be hammered here Because it does feel like the kids just back from whatever injuries he's had and he has some played and you know, but it's I know when Johnson came back from injury. We could kind of see a gradual Increase in performance from him. We came back at the bottom point any couple of games. He was getting better He's getting better. I don't think Lucas can I just don't see how he improves himself to The level that he was supposed at the ass when before the knee injury and I think supposedly at his heart He was he was it no we became the best end of the world when he was out injured when there was people going on I think I think if you look at Lucas before he gets the injury and Chelsea He was by far and away the best defensive central midfielder in the league in that season, right? He dominated the likes of Yaya Torrey and all he was in He looked he looked like he stepped up He was mobile aggressive. He was never patient. What he was was He was very aware tactically of what was going on and you know, it's it's it's It's one of those things where you're saying can you get back to us? I don't know Oh, you don't think I really can't see him coming back to that level because His level or the position he plays requires someone to basically play on it on a pivot He is the pivot of the team if he plays in that role look Jared has been what he wasn't in the pivot role yesterday Nobody wasn't yesterday, but I just don't think he can get back to that level where he can play in that position Because of his needs because the injury just physically don't think he'd be able to it's not against the fella It is it's a constant thing with the injury definitely because like when he went out When he went out like everyone was like I'll barely miss someone really missing him And then he came back and now we're all slate number one. I'm slate number. I am. I'm just late To be slated after yesterday the whole team so far completely yesterday because I'm Jared who has been in periods in the past few games His level dropped to okay yesterday because he was trying he was exposed He was exposed by Lucas, which is a conversation we had back in September that the Lucas Jared too can't work together. It wasn't a tutorial What we were doing as a as a team It comes back to what started what you touched on at the start Uh, Paul let's change this before this. It's very fucking tense Paul talk to me about the decision that that that Brandon makes to play the two from the start means that we've got on the bench Victor Um, and he's the go-to guy for Brandon now. He's the go-to guy. He's the first sub Which very few of us can understand tell me how you feel when you see Victor Moses arriving onto the pitch to save the day It wasn't to save the day. It was to save that and tell me how the overwhelming feeling is that it's a fucking miracle We're top of the evening Victor comes on the tree one lads. I think it comes on a tree one And then it's three too. Victor. That's the victor effect It wasn't even the flank that that the second goal came from it Like Moses deserved this large one last week when he fucking gave the ball away and Henderson got done But fucking he doesn't just was not getting it He was over there so at the fucking pitch when the second goal is not as you don't wait unless he has the fucking reverse force And he fucking moves the ball for them. Moses did what was asked of him yesterday, which was to come on Use it. Well use your pace down the wings. I'm not going. I've knocked them Literally him seeing him warming up on the sideline brought me into a rage at points this season I did not want yesterday. He came on the fella did well. I can't knock him for anything. He did It was all right. There was He didn't save the day and he didn't cause any issues with how we played or how we lost goals Can I just can I just point out this the fact that it was a total wind up and now I've got filled to defend Victor Moses and Glenn Johnson My work my work is done here It's a serious parody agenda that you had down about the substitutions absolutely and I think Brendan brings down a tree want to change how we're approaching the game he goes for a counter attack and soil That's where he takes continue off and brings Victor Moses on because he's very mighty He wants the additional pace He knows that Norwich are gonna try to kitchen sink at them and he's hoping that the gaps that they leave behind Stirling Moses and Suarez will then go and exploit the issue has what soon as this change is made We then go and could see the second goal and it just throws the whole plan out the window And he has to go and change something else again in terms of when he then has to bring agaron because he needs to change around My key issue was that the players he took off He said I would prefer to see him take Lucas off at that point and drop cutino back into the midfield because continues still have more energy than Lucas had for the whole 90 minutes The thing is the first time in months that I've actually questioned judges and gone watch your tinker They like normally you can see it you can see why you believe it's starting them or leaving them on leaving them on leaving them on I was like oh nice in Brendan you know in Rogers we just yeah so that's fine leaving them on I was like you know the substitutions that were getting me I was like what really still leaving them up and so yeah it was the first time I questioned well talk to me about your well and then we're kind of leading into it I told you it was pretty amazing myself I thought it just looks so tidy on the ball and high energy levels So how in the hell is that kid withdrawn in that game or we really need a fella who's tidy on the ball seems strange I said that's exactly the thing like it's what this would like to know like why would you look at where we are and we can seize it and the fact that you're tired you're still would leave Lucas on the pitch like I don't I'm not leaving I'm not gonna sleep because I like him but he's a big he's a pipe holy and it does make me wonder why does I actually don't know I don't actually don't know Honest question here then what do you like about him? Who Lucas is here mainly? No but I don't know what do you like about him as a player I think suppose maybe what he's done in the past You can't do a jump on this season because he's he's being injured and he's just back from injury and he's still not confident enough I think on the pitch and I think there is a place for him we get your next season we need a strong player on the bench Yeah the point is we both have the ability I don't know if he has in the way we want to play football I'm not knocking him I'd love to see him go and I was talking to Phil on the way down to the to the bunker today in the car I'd like to see him go and play for another team and play 30 40 games of season I just don't think where he is as a player now and the way he's playing or is capable of playing is the way that we want to play football so I'd rather see this take seven or eight million for him say thanks for your time No hard feelings and maybe put another two or three with that and bring in somebody else I'm not saying get rid of him and don't replace him I'm saying replace him with a more dynamic player who can play in the way that we play football and and add something to our squad for next season because I think we're going to sit here in this bunker next year regardless of whether it's a game against Fulham or Fucking in Piacos or whoever it is he's set up to play a certain way and it's not a way that we play football anymore so I think we're going to struggle next season with him in the side regardless and that's why this isn't a personal vendetta I like Lucas I like what he's done before I have my personal vendettas against certain players don't get that wrong but saying in this instance it's not one with him okay I just don't think he's right for us okay so so do you think that we can take the way we play now do you think we can take that's your yeah yeah I wonder what I'm saying but then on the bench who's on the bench you need two teams but that's that's why you think this is my point but we replace we're trying to bring in a huge money yes you know my point is we're due to taking a lot of money for guaranteeing group stages with Champions League we have additional sponsorship revenues and stuff like that which will come into play as of this summer there's the kitty that the club have hopefully got forest regardless of whether we found it we got through it and then we've got a lot of players who should who should be showing the door as well okay now that now that Steve was personal vendetta against Lucas can we move on to back to what we're talking about which is Joe Allen is affecting the team Paul as a starter he looks very very very much part of the whole setup and really really what Rogers is looking for high energy high tempo technically excellent yeah definitely and especially without Henderson like we absolutely has to be in um what's good yeah he's really tidy and like he does he covers an awful lot of ground we saw that when he came in you know um right back against Spurs when uh what's good us when Gerard was out and like he uh him and Henderson just blew Spurs away and obviously we didn't have the same we didn't have Henderson yesterday but I have a trillate like I do I like it I like Allen's energy and I like his past and I know he's kind of criticized us negative but he does kind of keep the ball taken over yeah and like we need that when everyone else is trying to like play break next beat like continue sterling what we need someone like Allen who keeps things technical and yeah yeah absolutely absolutely um but also on that and it's the key part of Allen's the key bit where Lucas has fallen down it's exactly what you said it's the level of mobility the air sentiment feelers ahead of your art need to have to play in the formation whether it's the diamond or whether it's a for tree tree because they are providing the legs for for Gerard around them and that's why Gerard has looked so good in the second half of the season is because Henderson Coutinho and Allen when they've all played are such electric players in terms and so so dynamic it was again it like it is it it's a valid question and I can understand why Rogers perhaps kept Lucas on the pitch because he's thinking of a more senior player a more experienced player and then the inevitable nerves that's going to come in as we get towards the end of the game that's a very Brendan thing to do that's why Johnson started yeah and it's and it's like he's thanked himself right these are my senior heads these are the leaders that I have and he's out he's previously talked about Luke was being a leader for him and remember when he was out injured he was sending him out to scout teams and look at how other teams were playing and keeping him very much involved in what was going on but what what what and that's what I suppose really frustrating to help me in terms of the performance that he does then put in when Allen is taken out and when Coutinho was taken out is that he gave away so many city frees and created so much pressure on us as a public does that there's that fine that's gone around wanted to give back a minute when Sterling was winning the battle to win the ball back and your mom was going nowhere I'm just praying that you're pretty concerned in the back and you just wondered like I think there's a point here about what you said in terms of we've seen Johnson levels go up as he got more and more games but Johnson was given starts and he was given 90 minutes to get up Luke has got 45 minutes against West Ham he's gotten a run at 20 minutes here and he comes in and plays a full 90 here and that's that's what's made me surprised about the substitutions that if you're looking at either Coutinho or Allen who've played more time than Lucas has since his injury you'd imagine that they would have more minutes in their belt maybe Brendan had as you said he was three one he's thinking right we'll actually take Lucas with more seniority drop him back in hold the line and then we'll use Gerard's passing to break and use Moses's pace use Sterling's pace and Suarez's ability I don't need a 10 I don't need the high pressing game at that point because we use the space that opens up for us but unfortunately Lucas because he's that bit off the pace he gives away the stupid phrase brings pressure on us and and creates this debate around that we're looking at saying why do you take Allen out why do you take Coutinho out when they've been performing so well also we're taking Allen Coutinho out there don't have as much game time under our belt in terms of going into Chelsea so you know there's the freshness levels and and have a more minutes and hopefully more energy when it comes to the closing stages in next week's game I don't want to I was frustrated as hell watching Lucas back and watching the second time I was there going Jesus Christ every like you know for the for the various reasons that we talked but there is an element that the guy has very few minutes under his belt since Christmas but I do think Steve Steve was very valid in terms of next season and where we need to go to and the type of football that we're playing and something that Brendan himself has spoke about recently over the weekend that he hasn't been looking to Spain for his direction and something that we mentioned a few weeks back he's been looking at Dortmund still craving yourself over this yeah I don't know what I saw I was just there gone oh glory bank and it was just it was just there gone you know looking at the team this season it has become so like that type of team that the the way Munich has played even on the grindy order with that more direct ability you know retain possession but kill teams with with with with with fast and so he's a person that goes on and the same with Dortmund and that's why I think that Lucas himself was struggling if his mobility can't come back up to the level he was before he got in the injury I can't see him being able to hold down even a squad place in the side and I think a more and more loyal dynamic player but do you not think there's a place from then when like obviously next season general is gonna have to race a lot more yes like I don't mind Lucas going in for a gerry that's when he goes in with gerry yeah but I think in that instant part I'd be hoping that we've signed somebody who's can offer more to the squad that isn't just a direct replacement for gerryard like the rumours with mv for example right the guy can can play higher up in the way Joellen can can fit in into that into that pivot role mv can play like very much special is a defence midfielder but he can also play as a dynamic sentiment fielder as well ahead of gerryard so you don't want I wouldn't like to see just a point a pigeonhole player where it's only if gerryard is rested or needs time out you want someone who can add to the squad when we pick up suspensions and injuries which we will more so when we've got another 20 yard games to add into the factor in who Lucas I think we can upgrade him I just don't see him getting the level amount and I think I've seen that so much now since the injuries happen I don't think he can turn effectively as the way he used to he doesn't he seems to have lost under half years I think physically he's he's gay burn and that's not that's not his fault no I look I love to see the way the guy blossomed after the initial like the level of abuse that he got and the whole lot as it went down right and it was phenomenal to see him torn that around and become a mainstay the team and become a player that the fans really want and love and wanted to come back but if you look at him in cold hard facts in terms of what he's brought to the pitch since the injury he's just not at the level that he can sign for for an Italian team next year and look good he can sign for a team in the premiership you know a villa you know a Fulham whoever it may be they may not be in the premiership but I'm just using them as examples a west blam whoever it is and look good because of the style of play they will set up with him sat everything in front of him him just facing one way and and it won't affect him which is why I think the the replacement for Jared next season or this the fellow can step in for Jared is a good shout by Paul look at the tables are you just one point where the team Lucas was when Lucas was our best midfielder at the time we were a seven place team Lucas isn't the title win and sent him a failure no but Trevor just kind of like he ever was that back to what you've just said there you you agree with Paul that Lucas could step in for Jared next season so do you think that's enough so do you not do you not see the role that Jared's playing for the club at the moment and you think you think Lucas has the legs to cover that ground to get back in behind the center at center house and make those challenges that Jared was yeah well I'm saying is I think he's the best equipped in the squad to have a go at that I would say I don't disagree with you there my point is that if we go in next season where Lucas is still the best equipped person to do what Jared's done then we've failed that's that's my belief we failed as a as a club in terms of soybeans not not failed sorry failed in terms of I mean in terms of our recruitment policy okay okay well we win the league league league champions chandens leg works but we fail because he's still there that's the harshest criticism ever he might be able to talk like set the board tear the place down never seen the real steam but what I'm saying is if our idea is that he should be involved in somehow the bloke still worth seven eight nine million quid take the fucking money you know what I mean like I've lost a little bit of what we're at a point now where we need to be ruthless if you go on and you are you are league champions you need to upgrade on that squad okay there's a moving away from the the macro and capitalism I'm just gonna break it back a little second I need fucking way so Paul Paul fucking don't mention him and talk to me about rock talk to me about right I'm starting Brendan reckons he's the best young player in Europe at Brendan likes a big statement like that he does have remarkable balance on the ball toys just he's lovely to watch now he looks like a far more mature player than than his years would tell you is um is he gonna be the man who's gonna drive this title push over the line do you think sorry and yeah like Brendan looks a big statement though I do too I think the moment Henderson got sent off he became our most important player this season because they're going into a game they're like the two biggest questions Roger asks Roger's asked himself is what do I want from Henderson and what do I want from Stern and like the way because the because they're mobility the way they the way they can do kind of two roles in one yeah so that and that's gone for Henderson you know from also the season so I think like Stern and going into this Chelsea match it's like it's huge like what what do we do with him how do we kind of nullify Chelsea with him and get at them as well yeah because that's the ability he has like he's brilliant off the ball with the ball his intelligence his mobility like he's at like the second goal like a lucky deflection obviously for the finish but like once he got the ball he intercepted the ball in his own half and like the Norwich players were just in irrelevance like he just carried it where he wanted he just carried it straight into their box they couldn't touch him like it's it's just unbelievable to watch it really is Charlie you can really trust this kid now come up you coming forward the ball yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah it's canoeing in whatever I think bends and stuff on the under his wing and he's being a bit like a father to figure yeah and he's kind of going look you know you've got a place on this team you don't go play it and he is he's got great ability I mean in the game they last week when he scored that girl right in front of the keeper I told us he was going to fluff it up to be honest with you but he never and every game he plays me can't I wasn't worried about losing the storage because the newbie had stale and then newbie was quick and newbie was going down the ball don't mind my kids go ahead go ahead and yeah yeah in just four or five years he's going to be a legends couple legends with all the shadows you reckon you can see a building like yeah Jeff oh yeah Steve I've told you you're very pally you're very pally with your mate Bren yeah yeah so what's what what's Bren's thinking when he's coming up it's same like that is that not classic piling pressure on a type of thing that we used to accuse him of in the bus no because how many how many others are there that are but I think I think he's just trying to to I don't know he obviously has an angle on it and he's working it I think you know what I mean like and it is working well like I don't think there are many young players of 18 or 19 years of age who are at the the consistent levels of sterling over the last two or three months but maybe maybe I haven't seen a lot of them on this league but I can only imagine someone like like Royce or some of my dad who I don't even know how old he is he's early 20s 21 22 yeah three the better but like but like you know 18 19 year olds playing consistently at a team that's top of the league and and winning games like two goals and an assist yesterday to win us that matter if as far as it's doing that we're which isn't ourselves about them being top three player in the world you know what I mean so why shouldn't Sterling get the same sort of praise as as a young player so many won't references in this podcast so far starting was immense it's been immense since he came back into the solid and and when people are talking about storage and just storage and swar is and storage and swar is and storage and swar is we were saying look there's a toward there's a toward prong and this attack and that's Raheem staring I think he played better yeah and like he's he's become liberated as well as the seasons gone on he's just he's free to go he's really enjoying his football he's on a real crest of a wave and as we said even coming to the World Cup he's going to be electric for England or you're just now if he starts he's going to take the take the whole team by storm especially against some of the shit teams that'll be in the World Cup if they get it they won't get out of the group though yeah it's a problem maybe if he stays there just plays an exhibition I just think it's Italy Italy you're going in Costa Rica that's right I still fancy them to get cast Italy they have Roy Hodgson as a manager how she's going to play him it right back yeah but I'm gonna send her half Raheem Sterling he's strong enough yeah he could do it yeah I'll tell you what he won some balls in the area yesterday and I was looking going he's five for four or something hell if he doesn't think they're half and he's out jumping you should just but he was go in the fucking game he was there to start again flaining now try and if we're talking if we're comparing to young players and if we're comparing them to young players around Europe and saying he's the best young player in Europe it's very hard to pick at one at this moment in time that's having this big an impact on a team as this guy has and has a team in the position that they are like the nearest comparative you looked at is maybe say it let go Madrid and saying is there is there another 19 year old in the electrical Madrid team that's that's performing at the same level and having this big an impact at the same level and there's not one that jumps out of me like you're looking okay is he playing race 21 yeah he's a bit older and even when we take the sack of sack was only about 22 22 trailer he's only a youngfoot as well what about Germany for that was well what you've got Julian Drexler who's doing wonderful things a shalke you've got you've got 23 24 again no no he's only 19 you've got you've got you've got the you've got the youngfoot who would be in linked with um Kalimoglu at Hamburg Hamburg and he's been holding that team together and what is a smash but i'm talking about a fella who's in a team that's leading the league right yeah under the pressure to put the points in he really holds becomes the match winner and not just a fella who's yeah and you know who's grows as every game goes on he's grown and grown and grown in terms of stature so i think it's a fair show yeah at this moment i think it's a fair show you know what i mean and look when you're watching me yesterday when he gets on the ball you know like the like Suarez was two or three months ago when he was in that real rich vein of form where he was scoring a hundred goals a game right when stare when stare yeah when staring gets on the ball now it doesn't i don't think there's a single Liverpool fan who isn't just thinking what's going to happen next what's going to happen next it's that same feeling that that's going to be absolute look at the last couple of weeks and look at who the mid the players who've carried the can when Suarez and storage haven't been at the forearms they've been for the majority of the season it's continued it's Gerard and it's Sterling and stones three who continually fill in the gaps when the two boys aren't at the level of the way as they help me and even look Suarez gets a goal yesterday but it wasn't Suarez's best game and it was eventually he was going to have a have a have a poorer game it's a great finish but i'm just i'm just saying in general yeah but that that's what title winning sides do and that's why we're top of the league because you look at the invincible Arsenal team when Thierry Henry was absolutely born in the the league up who was still the games where where you know whoever it was at the time lonberg perez whoever it was that that that came in and dug them out of a hole in games not even looking back to that I asked him so I look at you know he had for how many years where they'd have little fucking boxes like mckay to come in and he'll score two or three goals in the toilet running and win points that's the kind of level we need to get it and with Sterling doing that he stepped a week slated Sterling after the whole game there was genuine well there was genuine I didn't I said at the time he's the type of player that needs games but there's a genuine talk at the time of sir stop your whole we had a conversation the fucker for Munsa did say that he's he's gone he did no fair enough if we did but we did have a conversation about whether sir and screw out alone whether it will benefit but it was to get games it was to get games and the way things have panned out he's gotten the games and he and he's delivered but well you know his talent could always do once he applied and you imagine how annoyed we'd be if he'd gone out on loan to another premises and they that's pretty bad yeah we'd be there fucking gone nuts yeah so you wouldn't have Roger's coach and I'm not this is good that's the right thing that's important okay well let's let's finish on a spectacular I told you so from Phil then whatever if you and move on to our list nice questions set you up I see there fell back pocket okay i'm gonna bring a bus bus though oh brilliant okay right let's go on to our listeners questions right first one's from Sly Farneville he was a previous guest in the show and he asked me it's a simple choice you've got here uh steve daily emcee hammer of an ice vanilla ice without question how the fuck do you rationalize that tell me because i know nearly all the words of ice i speak i don't i think anyone who can make parachute pants a ting has got to get my respect i want to fucking hell vanilla ice and a gold toilet he's emcee hammer had a gold toilet a proper gold toilet at the end of the bankrupt yeah fair play that's that's a well made point right now i'm standing on baggy pants um you have parachute parts of the file as is on now i don't know what he meant to cross in the video he just got dudududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududududud. it was like looking at a human version of space invaders it's like you're hanging over dress you know you know it's fucking comfortable piss off yeah i can dance like fucking this yeah fucking parachute pass anyway and next i'm up some patty uh ex-competition where i believe he wonders what causes you road rage or have you ever confronted another driver Charlie i see potential in you here for this one in the cases go on do you just know what they are okay don't don't don't take care of us right if you want to get with it and wear there's a little stick on the side of the car let's tell them tell the people where you're going to get use them yeah and every conference of people mainly when i've just kind of drew it past them and got me so yeah yeah yeah i hand gesture but they have enough propaganda so you see but have you ever ever had proper confrontation but i can't tell you okay could still still leave your family home because i'm still in court okay still okay do you know it really gets to me go on someone who indicates to torn whatever direction they are right and to torn that way they have to torn out the opposite direction to go like if you're going to the right thing at the front you're like you're not having a hoi just like you know it's got a fucking truck you're in a fucking chink we tend to wankers in the fast lane who tinkets their business and and their responsibility to dictate how fast you've set the pace you set the fucking pace no this is how fast we're driving today lads yeah well sorry no it's not no unfortunately it's come back to haunt me because on a few occasions they have been playing close police officers i really really hate undertaking i actually really hate undertaking so i would rather flash you like a mental path go go go get out and go away and then go past then actually undertake somebody but in the odd occasion i tend to get burned where i absolutely lose the plot i undertake i go buy them i like to tell them every kind of concert that they are yeah was pointing at them not looking at the road and then speed off but then you know it tends then sometimes the little blue lights go on and you kind of have to go faster but you go out to have to order i'll do a question where no one can bury themselves at home uh Jim Fischer is asking to switch is your favourite change bond actor Steve Daniel Craig why is that kid because he's a sculptor that is what helped but now he i read a lot of the James Bond books and massive James Bond fan and we just think that with the original the inflamming James Bond Daniel Craig plays a better name you reckon he embodies the act any other says i would stay on Daniel Craig i didn't read the books but i know the premise of of the inflamings James Bond was a nasty fucker yeah you know he wasn't there wasn't this swab roger morris and roger morris and roger morris and as much as i love those you know i was like timity dolphin like roger morris like you know george ladies and me the whole lot and you know i just think Daniel Craig for the time that we're in now he embodies a modern James Bond action pact full of fun and still charming and fucking a legend with the ladies but we'll also you said like you're quite taken with him i love them since layer cake ah their cake is fucking amazing one of the movie and ever since then roger morris roger morris just just the same ball james bond it's roger morris right he's just he was brilliant it was like the quintessential pointless gentleman as a fucking jane bond i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't want stupid Daniel Craig i want fucking roger morris roger morris has been the best band themes of all time i can't remember what film it's in but my favorite James Bond film was moon raker oh keeping the British end up that's that's his point at the end that's quality that is quality the roger morris scene is when the stars get to remember jaws get to the board and just calm down racy just don't know how for me it was very it was very fun to pick town girls yeah the pigtail has got the board of that and then that starts that's not jaws being a lunatic that is well that's very good thank you roger morris you're just saying this to piss everybody but i'll know i don't know when i was at this stage roger morris just a contrary but roger fucking morris like shawn connery i've been active all been shit like so just it's sort of one of those two named everyone between years years of suspension of all all right did you say pierce bros no because he was crazy he was crap he should have
