PHLY Philadelphia Flyers Podcast

Postgame 1/26: Good enough, for now...

The headline should be the Philadelphia Flyers beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3. The power play converted early, with James van Riemsdyk netting a pair of man-advantage goals in the game's first 21 minutes, Shayne Gostisbehere looking solid in his first action of the season, and the depth came up big in the third period, with goals from Nolan Patrick and Joel Farabee to put the game out of reach. Good stuff. But, as is always the case, context is king. After the Flyers went up 2-0 59 seconds into the second period, they found themselves tied with NJ by the end of the middle frame, and unable to reclaim momentum for a majority of the second half of the game. Still, Philly went up 5-2 on an Ivan Provorov long-range empty-netter before surrendering a goal to Pavel Zacha with 1:08 remaining in the third and earned themselves two points in the standings to rebound from their awful showings against Boston last week. This post game is a temperature check for the fanbase, unpacking the good and bad from the team's first road victory of 2021. Listen to the postgame for more. Learn more about your ad choices.
