Homes.com, we've done your homework. Whatever will we talk about with Mike Shilt. Welcome back. It is Ben Woods. It's 9 a.m. on a Friday, and that means it is time for our manager's report. It is brought to you by San Diego County Credit Union. It's not Big Bank banking. It's better and joining us from Baltimore, Maryland, where the Padres begin the final three game series of their road trip later today. The skipper of the San Diego Padres, Mike Shilt. Mike, good morning to you. Good morning, gentlemen. How you doing? We're good. That was a lot of fun yesterday. And before we get into Dillon Cece's amazing performance and the team behind them, fantastic. I heard you say after the game, and this stunned me, in all your years of baseball, and you know, you're what kind of, they call a lifer, you've been managing in the minors and the big leagues for what, two decades, you've never had a team, your team throw a no hitter until until yesterday. That's incredible. It's pretty incredible. But on the other side of it, unfortunately, but a lot of years in the game, different levels clearly, and yesterday was the first game close a ton of times. But, you know, yesterday was a special achievement for Dillon and I was privileged to be a part of it. It was, it was incredible. I had, I missed the last two innings, Skip, and I had to go back and watch them. I knew that he had gotten it. I knew that he had it. It was, it was all over Twitter. Everybody knew it had already been done. I went back and watched the last inning. That first day B had me nauseous, nauseous. I can't even imagine what you were going through in that first A B of the ninth inning. Yeah, I mean, you know, at that point, we're, we're in, but, you know, we got to be mindful of the workload, which I'm sure we'll get to later. But man, you know, Vargas is a, is a tough and bad. And it starts at ninth since, uh, since rookie ball. So he's been a basketball guy, tough and bad, um, and a good competitor, uh, and he knew he's going to put together a good at bat and he did, threw it together really long and bad on him. Then Dillon made an after pitch to get him to kind of check swing and I grabbed all the bogey. So, um, then, you know, three picks later was over. Obviously, we've seen some really good stretches from, from Dillon sees this season, but I don't think it can be repeated enough. The last three starts, I mean, historic, historic, what, what are you seeing? I mean, two hits in 22 innings. That's unheard of. Mike, what are you seeing from Dillon sees? I mean, just anything different, obviously he's always got good stuff. What's different about these last three, uh, you know, I think it's, uh, I mean, it's historic. It's been pretty special to be able to be a part of and watch and, and, uh, see him, and do his magic, but, uh, you know, he's just been super convicted. He's been able to really, um, assert himself and dominate, you know, multiple plus pitches where he wants to go and him, it can't be, it's had some really clear ideas about how they want to get people out and he's been able to execute with his plus stuff. It's, uh, it's a good recipe for what we've seen. You know, and you're talking about conviction here, we got a chance, excuse me, to interview Dillon sees really thoughtful, you know, soft spoken guy has some, some interesting interests outside of the game of baseball, loves art, loves disc golf. I mean, he's a, he's a kind of an every man type guy and Renaissance man, if you will, when you talk about conviction though, how, how firm was he with you when he said, I, I want to finish this. How did that convo go? It was, it was a very healthy conversation and, uh, he was very, very convicted, um, you know, from my seat, you know, you're bordering, you know, three different things really. You know, the, uh, ability to have a personal accomplishment, which, you know, you want to make sure that these guys have the opportunity to do, make sure that, um, they're in a position that they're, they're able to perform that day and perform beyond that, the health factor, um, and then, you know, you want to make sure you're, you're giving your, you're called the chance to win a, you know, that chance to win a ball game and, um, you know, from my seat at 94 pitches after the seven, in a, in a vacuum, that wouldn't have been a big deal for me. We'd have checked in on and obviously we would have gotten the conviction, which I'll get to in a little bit more detail in a second, but, um, you know, it was the hour and 16 minute delay to the start of the game that was literally abnormal. And if, you know, if he hadn't gotten hot, that wouldn't have been an issue, but he got hot. And then, you know, he actually sat longer because it was a fairly long top of the first before the rain delay. Um, and of course we came out of it with a three run, um, double by chimney, but, um, you know, that was the biggest factor for me. Like, okay, let's be smart about this. And, uh, man, right when he came off that mound, he was looking like, I'm good to go back. I'm good to go back. I'm like, I don't think so. And I'm good to go back. And I, you know, and I needed that conviction from him, you know, to be able to talk through it because, you know, it is his career, it's clearly his moment. Um, but in 94 pitches, it's about, okay, are we going to be able to get to the end if we're going to be committed to this and if, and once we determine that he was convicted about it, then we are, uh, you got, you'll get it, man. Be efficient. You know, the nine pitch eight really helped it now, so no longer back in Vargas, um, he was, he was convicted and efficient and what a, what a, um, magnificent performance is great. Absolutely. I'm really happy for him. Talking to Mike Shilton, I heard you say after the game that it's just the second time you've ever let a pitcher talk you into, to going back in after you had already made the decision the other way. I wasn't surprised when he said the other one was Adam Wainwright, but I want you to speak on, on leadership there because I know there are some people who would say that, you know, waffling or changing your mind is not the sign of a good leader. I kind of think the opposite, like having the ability to like change your mind and listen to the guys is actually the most important part of leadership and it, how do you kind of view that? Uh, first of all, if you're going to be in any leadership position, you're going to get criticized either way, um, and you accept that, um, you know, I personally believe, you know, conviction leadership is, is clearly, um, a sign of a good leader, um, but I don't think it's wide conviction. Um, you know, I've got a personal mantra, I'm really comfortable with what I, what I don't know, I'm really convicted with what I do know and I also am, um, and willing to be open-minded in situations that I'm convicted about to change my mind if, if things present themselves. And, you know, in real time and in a fairly high, you know, safe situation, you know, I've got a part of my responsibility in that regard is to be, you know, the, uh, the guy that looks at a big picture of this thing from an organizational perspective, a long term perspective of the season, the health of a player, um, and I fact, all those things in with my experiences and, um, but then I, I think you're a default, it's not to be able to have a conversation and listen to people that are participating, um, and that's really a big part of my leadership style and, and, uh, you know, people say, oh, you know, I don't know what people say, what else, I just don't, it's mostly worked for me. It's nothing, it's, uh, absolute otherwise somebody will have the, you know, holy grail of leadership, um, but, you know, listen to people and, and get in their opinions and, and trusting them, you know, listening and trusting is, I think, to the biggest things about leadership that, especially the listening part, um, and then you make an informed decision and made an informed decision partner with, with Dylan and the group, you know, who was there and said, all right, fine, we're going to go ahead and enter and we'll give you, give you a shot at it, but, you know, this isn't going to be like this 130 pitch. We're just chasing that kind of situation. Um, and so everybody was on the same page and we went out and we did it. It's, it's such an interesting, uh, perspective to hear you talk from your seat about that. I was watching last night, Mike, the Pete Rose documentary, it's on max right now. It's a four-parter and certainly very interesting and, uh, you know, I know you've probably run across Pete in your life, but he was talking about when he was a manager and he said, he said a manager never thinks he put the wrong pinch hitter in and a manager never thinks he put the wrong guy in. And I said, man, that, that, that's kind of interesting to hear that from Pete Rose when he was managing. And of course he was referring to when he was accused of betting on the games that he was managing and he said a manager will never think he put the wrong guy up to bat or the wrong guy into pitch. I wanted to hear kind of your perspective on that. I mean, listen, you know, Pete, you know, historic guy and I don't know what context he was saying that under whether it was to send anything, um, you know, in another topic. But, um, no, I personally look, you know, I mean, you're, I don't have a lot of regrets. You know, I do my homework. Um, I take my shot. You know, it's, uh, you make your best, best to, you know, you take your best shot at what you have at the moment. You also sometimes have to have an eye towards, you know, a lot of different things. You know, it may not be the most ideal first situation for a player, but that player needs to know you have confidence in him. So in a big picture, that's important for the relationship that in a vacuum, which most everybody that micromanages or second guess is what I get, you know, I've learned to accept that that's the case that, you know, it's a, it's a, it's just part of the gig, man. It's a lonely seat where, you know, people are going to take their shots and the reality is that a high, high percentage, you know, don't really know all the variables or the thought behind it. And, you know, um, but I can tell you, you know, back to your specific question. I mean, for me, and, you know, talking to Hall of Fame managers and other managers and just doing it, doing it for, you know, every many years now, 30 years at different levels. Man, it's not that you second guess, but you always review, like, did I do that? Well, sure. Is that, can I've done that differently? That's just, if you haven't done, if I hadn't done that, I would have never got that rookie ball. No, I never got to Ricky ball. I mean, you know, I mean, I've sat there with Tony Waruse, so I don't think you'd have a problem with me saying this out of school and, um, and had, you know, I've had gosh countless, unbelievable conversation with this guy, but I'd be after, after games when he was managing in the big leagues and, you know, we would win and he'd be hacked off. And if he thought he missed something, and he's like, you know, and he's right about this, just, well, take it out of you on baking, but he's like, you know, I can get called out in the media with a decision that I know I nailed and it didn't work out. And that's completely right. And he was like, and, and I, you know, same way. You don't lose any sleep over that. You know, it's like a little bit like, okay, see, we didn't really understand the contact of it. Don't really know what I'm dealing with. That's for the gig. But I've also sat with him. And I've done this to myself, too, where you feel like you, you know, you want to gain, um, or, you know, and you feel like you missed something, that he's at you. You know, and I've been at dinner with him. He's like, man, in the third, you know, just this and this. This is more back in the double switch game. Sure, Dave. And, you know, you really had, you know, shoot, I don't know how many students you have to make every day. There's less now, but there's still a lot of, a lot of freaking decisions that get made that have a lot of different, um, snowballs to them. Um, one way or the other. And, you know, he missed something or he missed something. It's like, man, you beat yourself up over that, that no one really even paid attention to, or nobody even asked you about him, you know, after the game. Um, and so, and the thing about it is a high percentage decision you make, you know, and they worked out and worked out, you know, of course it worked out. And, uh, so anyway, I appreciate that answer too, because I think a lot of times you, I do this as a media person, I go, I don't, I mean, I don't care. We won the game, you know, like I'm not going to complain about somebody taking an offer when we, when we want a game and don't see through a no hitter, you know, let's, let's be happy in the moment. But yeah, I think a good leader, somebody that's reflective will go back and say probably could have done that a little bit better. So I do appreciate that answer. Yeah. I mean, I mean, I like anybody's done anything at any high level to get there and to stay there is not always reflected with a, with a continual growth mindset that also has a little bit of fixed mindset that says, okay, and this, this is your conviction. Like I know this works. I've done it. It's, you know, it, it, it doesn't always work. It is our best. If you really, what you're really accomplishing every night with every decision is best case scenario. You know, chances are proposition is what this game is about. And you're creating as many positive chances from you as possible relative to the situation you have at hand. And there's, there's levels of those variables that, you know, take place over the course of the three to five hours to board a game that, you know, nobody lives. And then, oh, by the way, you have humans in high stimulated situations. Yeah. And, you know, I was talking to A.G. Ellis about this, you know, and it gets really easy to look and sit down like, why are you doing that? Why are you doing that? Why are you doing that? You go and do it every single day in front of, you know, the world basically, because every game tell about us, there are 45,000 people in real time every day in highly stimulated environments with guys throwing 98 to 100. And, you know, we can, we can have a tendency to minimize. Why can't he just get that guy over? Why can't he just do this? Why can't he just do that? Well, it's far easier said than done, indeed, unless you've done it or seen it or managed it, you know, but again, you know, we also recognize, you know, we do work in the public setting and there are things that come with it. And, you know, we can't alibi it. We can just share our thoughts. I know the only game you care about now is today's game. Try to get the next one. Obviously, the bullpen is pretty fresh. It was reported and you don't have to confirm or deny that Adam Major was going to come back and start this game. But imagine at least you feel good about where your team is heading into another tough series against a really good team this weekend. Yeah, I was playing well. And, you know, we're doing the things that require you to win games, you know, we're getting the start and pitching from from all the guys who've been tremendous. Our defense has been clean, you know, we've been effective and run the basis intelligently that offensive with most of the past competitions, been really good, played some good clubs, got another club that we're going to play today in Baltimore that right over the weekend that, you know, we'll come out and we're going to get our best shot and we'll be ready to go. And you know what next Friday will be when we talk to you, talk about everything AJ's done this week because he's always one of the most active GM's around the trade deadline. So imagine there's going to be at least a couple of moves before we talk to you again. So good luck. Good luck against the Dodgers when you get home and we'll talk to you next Friday. All right. We'll see you guys appreciate it. There is Mike Schilt, manager of the San Diego Padres or managers report brought to you by San Diego County Credit Union. It's not big bank banking. It is better. Love that. I love that answer, man. I love that answer a lot. It was a little bit of a long answer, but I really enjoyed it. And I know there's people in the chat like one of updates on Tati's and Musgrove. There's no new news right there. Joe is not going to be back at least until next month. He's been progressing and Tati's is the same. He's got we know he's doing light baseball activity probably a few weeks and hopefully he can come back. I don't think that was the best way to spend our limited time with Mike Schilt. If there's new news next week, we will certainly bring it to you. And I'll listen to the pregame show. Sam, you'll have you covered later today. I'm sure if anything develops. I mean, and based on what's happened already in baseball with the Rosarina going to the Mariners, AJ Puck going from the Marlins to the Diamondbacks who actually everyone's kind of saying that's a pretty good return for what's the new kid's name in Miami? I can't remember the GM. Yeah, the GM the one that AJ fleece for a rise. He's got to he had a nice Peter something. He had a Peter Bendik. Yeah, he had a nice little bounce back yesterday with his his trade of AJ Paul. I believe he got some really nice prospects from the Diamondbacks. So but the Diamondbacks have now fortified part of their bullpen as well. So everybody gets your Jeff pass and notifications on and we are we are off and running. All right, we will come back. Trade rumors, anything else more Padres talk on the way. And we've got one more pair of Sebastian Meniscalco tickets to give away coming up in our next segment after traffic here on 97 through the fam. You don't just live in your home. He just sidesteps. But Dennis Lynn in the athletic did report that it was going to be at a major start in the game today. So I will assume that that report was correct without confirmation from Mike Schultz. Just kind of glossed right over it. Yeah. So they pushed Michael King back a day with the idea. Obviously they're trying to keep his innings as managed as possible and have off days on Monday and Thursday next week. And that means if they use a fifth starter now Dylan Sees will get an extra day before his next start which will I believe be Wednesday against the Dodgers at Petco Park. That'll be exciting. Yeah. Coming back first start since the no hitter. I think Mike Schultz said in his post game that you almost said yeah his next start will be against the dot his next opponent. I didn't want to tip any information. He never likes to tip any. Yeah. I heard that. Yes. He kind of caught himself. He got caught. He just didn't want to say the word Dodgers out loud. Kind of like us. Yeah. What do they say when you're when you're at Ohio State and Michigan you can't say that that Ohio school. If you're Michigan you can't say Ohio State that Ohio school or something like the Ohio State University. So he didn't maybe he just didn't want to say the word Dodgers out loud. I doubt it. But I believe Dylan Sees will be on the mound Wednesday. But that gives him an extra day which factored into Mike Schultz decision to eventually let him go back out there for the eighth and ninth and throw 114 pitches. Now if they needed him like three more starts in a row on four days rest might have been a different story for Dylan Sees yesterday. But with that extra off day extra day of rest. Mike Schultz was convinced to send him back out there. And it was an interesting conversation with Mike Schultz. Yeah. Very, very interesting. But no I mean tonight. Yeah. I you know I hate to I don't want to be defeatist guy. But yeah. I mean you look at the matchup and you go OK well it doesn't tip the scales in our favor. It just doesn't. And that's that's just the nature of what we have. But hey man. One thing we do know anything can happen and and with a very, very rested bullpen. Thank you to all the starters. You know you can you can be a little bit more honest. I this is actually one of my favorite scenarios. When your team is going well and they've won five games in a row it almost feels like a no lose situation. They don't pitch well. They lose. It's all right fine. We got all our good pitchers coming up now and it can be one and done. If you do happen to catch lightning and bottle and you win this one. That's that's how double digit winning streaks are born. When you win the game that you're not expected to win. Now I hate it when you've lost like four in a row and all of a sudden. OK now we're throwing a bullpen day or an out of major day and we need a stopper coming in not someone that we're kind of crossing our fingers. But today it's kind of a no lose situation a little bit. You know you're more nervous when Dylan Sees is going against Patrick Corbin. You go don't lose this one. This is like that you should be heavily favored in this game. So you're telling me right now somewhere in Baltimore. There's two radio hosts going on. This is a trap game everybody out of major. This kid has got a seven E.R.A. and he you know he's going up against Grayson tonight and oh my God. I'll tell you exactly what they're saying. What is going on with Lamar Jackson and Raven his training camp right now. He only practiced for an hour and he had to come off the field at bravens again. I like that you just they're not talking about the Orioles at all. I like that you just browns Bravens the Bravens Baltimore Ravens Bravens find two hitters today instead of the one hitter that we were working on the Chargers will charge us now. It's crazy. All the training camps are underway. So Orioles talk is now on the back burner. If it's on any burners at all they do it. They do it at 945. Oh by the way Orioles back in action tonight. First place the Yankees. Make sure you check out the game later today. I do. I've taken on some team from California. I do wonder if they are if they're also you know they have you know they're they're having a really good year but yeah I mean they're still trying to win a division and and if they are doing the thing that we do when we go Oh God cease against Corbin. Oh my game. You cannot and they're going Oh God. It's Grayson. We just lost two or three of the Marlins. Right. And almost lost the third one. We got Grayson on the bump tonight and we're going to get some guy named Adam major with a 70 R.A. Oh boy. This feels like a classic Orioles trap game. Right. I would be fascinated. They're three and three since the break. They lost five of six going into the break including getting swept by the Cubs and really they haven't taken advantage of the Yankee struggles the way that they could the Yankees who have had like the worst record in base kind of like they didn't take advantage of the Dodgers struggles before the break because when you look at the standings you'll see that even though Baltimore is ahead they're only up by two games like I'd be worried if I was an Orioles fan what if the Yankees flipped the switch back again and turned into the team they were back you know in May when they look like they might be one of the great eighties of all time and now all of a sudden they're just two games behind they're still looming in the rear view mirror but all of a sudden the Boston Red Sox are now you know six and a half back and they just picked up James Paxton this morning. They did. What did they trade for? I did not see what the return was but I guess it's it's not a ton. No because the Dodgers had already designated him for assignment which lowers your leverage. Another another trade that just came down Mark Feinstein reporting the Phillies have required outfielder Austin Hayes from the Orioles for right handed pitcher Sir Anthony Dominguez and Christian Christian Pache. Is that right? So Sir Anthony Dominguez is now in the Orioles bullpen. Oh it's not crazy. That guy is nasty. I feel like the is that is that that's a weird trade two first place teams. Yeah trading with each other. Is that right? I know that the Orioles have an unbelievable glut of outfielders. They do. I mean Cedric Mullins comes off their bench. They've got plenty of guys prospects Mark Feinstein reporting men. So they're they're looking to bolster their bullpen while the Phillies are looking to they've had some injuries obviously trading Pache who's an outfielder for Austin Hayes. I don't know what his numbers are that just came across my feed. They must be decent if they're willing to give up Sir Anthony Dominguez. Wow. Austin Hayes is hitting 255 with three homers. All right. I feel like I feel like I feel like the Phillies just got fleeced a little bit just initial without no like how Sir Anthony playing this year. Is he pitching well? I don't I have again. This is all impromptu. So we can kind of why don't we want to take a break. We'll look up some of the numbers and see some of the quick analysis and reaction. But four seven five year. Not great. This year. But he was a playoff. He was he cog for them in their playoff runs the last couple of years. Wow. All right. All right. That's the hot stove is heating. Trade deadline may not be until Tuesday. But seems like it's going to be a very active weekend here in major league baseball. Keep it right here. We'll have all the updates. Samuel have them all week in long. Every Padres pre and post game show right now we got another pair of tickets to give away Sebastian Meniscalco coming to VA Haas arena on August 16th. You can see the comedian live by calling right now 8 3 3 2 8 0 97 3 fourth caller wins a pair of tickets or get your own tickets at Ticketmaster.com 8 3 3 2 8 0 97 3 for Sebastian Meniscalco at VA Haas arena on August 16th. Final segment of been a woods of the week coming up next year on 97 3, the fan reading tweets. This is 30 seconds ago from our guy to Martin's. He says, I think my favorite trade deadline acquisition will be getting Blake Snellback him agreeing to opt into next year and giants eat half of the money would have to give up a decent prospect that wouldn't be at the de Vries level. So that's the, um, that's the kind of creativity we've come to see from AJ Preller when people in baseball think that's not possible. That doesn't make sense. AJ oftentimes finds a way to make it possible and make it make sense for both sides. It's not just AJ. He always needs someone else to dance with, you know, he can't, he can't unilaterally make trades. So he's got to come, he's got to come up with creative options that the other team like goes, okay, yeah, I can see that. I can see why that works. You're almost like the GM for two teams. When you're trying to work out a trade, you're kind of GM in your own team, obviously, but you're also GMing the other team and going, you got to sell them. How do, okay, why, why is he going to say yes to this? Why is he going to look at this deal and go? All right, I'm willing to do this because ultimately I will be saving this much money and okay, this and that I get this prospect and okay, I guess what AJ's telling me actually does make a lot of sense. It's really good at making other GM say, yes, better than anybody in baseball. Is that coming in the next few days or not? We will find out. Yeah, Jeff passing has the update about the trade that just went down between the Orioles and the Phillies. It just says between two teams that could be facing one another in the World Series this year. It's kind of the popular pick right now. Phillies have acquired Austin A's be sending reliever Sir Anthony Domingo, center fielder Christian Pache to the Baltimore Orioles. Anthony Hayes was an all star last year. And again, could be, could be the, there's a thing going on in Baltimore obviously, Ben, where there's a lot of guys knocking at the door that they feel they, they are trading from a position I think of, of, of great surplus. They have close, I mean, every he's can't get into the lineup most days exactly. He's in 255 three homers, but he's, he's only played in a little more than half their game. Can't get in the lineup. They're just too loaded. It's crazy. It's crazy. What's, I mean, we, that's, that's an interesting, interesting position to go into the deadline at. So yeah, man, this is going to be, this is, should be pretty interesting as it, as it already has been. But yeah, Sir Anthony Domingo will now potentially be pitching against the Padres this weekend. And we got the pitching matchups for you for the upcoming series against the Baltimore Orioles. We'll get into that wrap things up on a Friday after traffic here on 97 three, the fan. All right. So obviously tonight we're expecting Adam Maesure to be back. He only made one start in the minor league since we last saw him before the all star break about a week before the all star break, I think. And he has just kind of been resting for the most part one and three with the old seven, eight, four era. Hey, probably can only go down from there. I hope against Grayson Rodriguez, who is one of the very solid starters for the Baltimore Orioles, 12 and four, 3.83 ERA. So advantage Orioles in game one, at least pitching wise tomorrow, Michael King getting an extra day of rest as they try to manage his innings, eight and six, three, two, eight ERA. Dean Kramer, four and six, four point four, three ERA. He's more of the back end guy in their, in their rotation, he was part of the Manning Machado deal from L.A. Wow, long time ago. And then Sunday, it's a Randy Vasquez. Who's coming off his best start as a member of the San Diego Padres. Three and five with a four point one seven ERA. Paul, you had this listed as TB, TBA or TBD for the Orioles in that one. I thought I saw a listed starter for Sunday. Yeah, so it's back to undecided. So does look like they'll miss Corbin Burns, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you're going to not have to face one of the pitchers for the Baltimore Orioles in a three game series. He'd be a, a good one to pick to miss, but we'll see what happens with the matchups. But that's what it's kind of looking like this weekend. Yeah, it's going to be an interesting weekend as it looks like, you know, things are already buzzing on the trade deadline front. Everybody get ready. It's, it's, it's quiet, quiet right now for the Padres, which only means at 10.03 when we split for the day, a big trade will come down. Yeah, I would, I mean, I'd almost, if he could, if I could go and place a bet on it, like with Castellanos and a world event, I'd put a hundred bucks on that, that the trade breaks within the next hour, 20 minutes after we're out of here. And then we have to wait until six a.m. on Monday to talk about it, break it down. Yeah, I'm really, hey, I'm really busy today, Adam. I'm sorry. I will not be able to do an emergency show or anything, but I have even my thoughts. I think it's always the situation that we got. We got two of the biggest Padres announcements happen while we were on the air. Yes. Yes. Manny Machado. Yep. And Juan Soto. Juan Soto. And we've kind of, that's, we used all of our good karma for those. And then the rest of them, all right, they're all happening after our show's over. Yeah. Well, we got the two that we really wanted over the past few years. A lot of, a lot of folks down on Adam measure tonight. You know, you don't need him. You don't need him to go CG, right? You don't. You, you mentioned it earlier. If he can find a way to navigate nine outs, I mean, he gets through the, through the lineup twice. That's huge win. Once is enough. I like Adam major. You had, did I say that? He loves Adam major. I like Adam major. Did you edit that? Did I say that? Well, the rally roach pull us through tonight, the rally roach. Adam major needs to that road. He needs that roach so bad more than anyone tonight against that lineup. I mean, one time through the order, man, not give me nine outs. I mean, if nine up, nine down, you got to send them back after the fourth. I mean, do you? Like you have a very rested bullpen and some guys go down and then when they come back up, take Brian over there. For instance, you know, a lot of guys go down. If Adam major comes back, we're in big old skull glasses. I'll feel pretty good about today's matchup. Yeah, Pete says, let's get that ERA from a seven three to a six, eight. Take it. I will take it. I will take it. I will take it, my friend. And again, stupid game. You never know what to expect. And just when you think you got it clocked, you don't. You don't probably see David Peralta back in the lineup against a right-hander tonight after a lot of lefties in the series against the Washington Nationals. And as you pointed out earlier, it may have been during the break, but Padres have already clinched a winning road trip. They are five and one with three games left on this road trip. We sat in there last week at the roundtable and we talked about being on the razor's edge and we absolutely were and they've absolutely delivered. Yeah, we all would have taken five and four on this trip. 100%. But I don't want now. I don't know how far is that seems like a real disappointment. It's not a real disappointment, because again, we were doom and gloom as, you know, as the Padres have led us to be playing 500 baseball for the last three seasons, Ben. I mean, it's, it's, it's, if that's one thing that you can kind of handicap over the last few years is that, you know, in this year, they get dragged back down to, uh, to 500, but I, to, to, to negotiate this road trip and know that you have a winning road trip already is, is really, really well, a job well done. Here's my modest requests, not being as greedy as I was yesterday. Give me one of the next two. Sure. Probably tomorrow, but certainly would take today and give me a chance on Sunday. Yep. Randy Vasquez, just give me a chance on Sunday. Hey, it comes down to a player too. If you lose two or three, six or three road trip is fantastic. If you win two out of three, seven and two is unbelievable. I like it. I like it. So when one of the next two, give me a chance on Sunday, and then we'll come back on Monday and talk about the, uh, the whole thing in total when the Padres are done with their nine game trip, the toughest trip remaining on the schedule and get it under their belts as they come back for things to, you know, dodgers and then things kind of, I don't want to say get easier, but certainly not quite as travel were, you know, weary some for the rest of the season. Yeah. It's, um, it's already a really nice accomplishment to be five and one on this road trip, a really, really nice accomplishment watching them handle business against an inferior opponent for three straight games. The, the guardians beating that team, they are not an inferior opponent. They're a superior opponent and you took two or three from them to watch them go in and handle business and throw a no hitter. Pretty amazing. So I think by all accounts, this was a already a wildly successful road trip, wildly, stay healthy, play hard, let the chips fall where they may, let's get after it. Oh, yeah, I was going to say, you know, it's been a while. It's been a while. I mean, you know, I like a Padres no hitter. I do too. And oh, I don't think well, we had the problems with the computer this week. I like calling it's not gone. It's just takes a while. He was looking to punt here with six minutes left, four minutes left. And punter is got a cramp. You always got to play field position. You do have to go for it. All right. So it's a fourth down. We're facing the blitz. Got about 13 yards to go until Annie and Elston. What, what play do you call here? What's we guys up to this weekend? Oh, wow. My goodness. You're just running it up the middle 13, three times. Try to get out of here. Oh, how about the story that I shared on Twitter yesterday? Oh, yeah, Mike Kurt Mavosse. If we had gotten with, we had left and we had not, we had not told that story. I would have been mad about it. I don't know. I don't know what to think about it. Kurt Bovecqua. Bovecqua went out to Padres. They haven't had Padres kids camp. All right. Now Bo's been there. It's five days. It's today's his last day. KB came to talk to the kids. And he's a salty dude. Kurt Bovecqua. I love him. But he, he went to talk to the kids, you know, was telling them about playing the game. And he told them, Hey, you guys all need to play a different sport too, which I firmly agree with. And he said, Did anybody have any questions? So apparently, my son raised his hand and asked Kurt Bovecqua if he played with Babe Ruth, which did he? It's a great question. It's a great question. My son also asked me last night Kurt Bovecqua was, was blind. And I said, why do you ask? He said, well, we had these really dark sunglasses on. I said, well, it's sunny. And it's like 100 degrees. He goes, yeah. But I saw, he's all Ray Charles. Yeah. Yeah. Ray Charles. Kurt Bovecqua. And I said, I know, buddy, he's not blind. He's not blind. I did. I don't, I don't know if I'm proud of this or not. I did play him the audio last night at the dinner. Oh, the Tommy LaSorta. I did. The unedited, unedited audio of Tommy LaSorta going in. I have never ever since I've managed ever told a picture to throw anybody, nor will I ever. And if I ever did, I certainly wouldn't make him throw at a 130 hitter, like LeFay, or the Bovecqua, who could hit water if he fell out of a boat. And I guarantee you this, when I put, and I was going to pitch against a team, but had guys on it like Bovecqua, I said, I'll never seem to get the **** to make sure he was in the mother **** lineup, because I kicked that **** dead any **** day in a week. When he said the line from Bull Durham, you know, he couldn't hit water, those started cackling like he wouldn't believe. Thought it was the funniest thing ever. So Kaby had a rough day yesterday. Maybe he had trouble hitting because of his flight. He might have told you there were times I felt like I was blind when I was up there. He Bove goes, I think he said he only hit 47 home runs in his long career. And I go, buddy, he's in the big league, 47 home runs. There's nothing to sneeze at, man. Like, one of them came in the world series. That was a huge, huge over for Kaby. And he just, it's so good, man. So they, I will say this, man, they have put on a phenomenal camp. He has had an incredible, incredible time, an incredible time. So been awesome. Baseball coverage of 97 through the fan presented by T-Mobile, switch to T-Mobile. You can get tons of benefits. All right, reading tweets. This is 30 seconds ago from our guy, two more. He says, I think my favorite trade deadline acquisition will be getting Lake Snellback, him agreeing to opt into next year and giants eat half of the money, would have to give him a decent prospect, but wouldn't be at the de Vries level. So that's the, um, that's the kind of creativity we've come to see from AJ Preller. When people in baseball think that's not possible, that doesn't make sense. AJ oftentimes finds a way to make it possible and make it make sense for both sides. It's not just AJ. He always needs someone else to dance with, you know, he can't, he can't unilaterally make trade. So he's got to come up with creative options that the other team like goes, okay, yeah, I can see that. I can see why that works. You're almost like the GM for two teams. When you're trying to work out a trade, you're kind of GMing your own team, obviously, but you're also GMing the other team and going, you got to sell them. How do, okay, why, why is he going to say yes to this? Why is he going to look at this deal and go? All right, I'm willing to do this because ultimately I will be saving this much money and okay, this and that I get this prospect and okay, I guess what AJ's telling me actually does make a lot of sense. It's really good at making other GM say yes, better than anybody in baseball. Is that coming in the next few days or not? We will find out. Yeah, Jeff Passen has the update about the trade that just went down between the Orioles and the Phillies. It just says between two teams that could be facing one another in the World Series this year. It's kind of the popular pick right now. Phillies have acquired Austin Hayes. You're sending reliever Sir Anthony Dominga, center fielder Christian Pache to the Baltimore Orioles. Anthony Hayes was an all-star last year.
